- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 135! Can you believe it? Lucas: I know. And we've covered so much already. Today I want to teach you something super practical. Luna: Ooh, practical is my favorite. What is it? Lucas: How to say 'I want to go' somewhere. In Swahili: 'Nataka kwenda'. Luna: Nataka kwenda. That's 'I want to go'? Lucas: Exactly. 'Nataka' means 'I want', 'kwenda' is 'to go'. So 'Nataka kwenda' is 'I want to go'. Luna: Nataka kwenda. Okay, I think I've got that. Where can I go? Lucas: Great question. Let's start with 'sokoni' — the market. You already know that from earlier episodes. Luna: Right, 'sokoni' means 'at the market' or 'market'. So 'Nataka kwenda sokoni' is 'I want to go to the market'. Lucas: Perfect. Say it with me: Nataka kwenda sokoni. Luna: Nataka kwenda sokoni. Lucas: Nataka kwenda sokoni. Good. Now let's try 'nyumbani' — home. Luna: Nataka kwenda nyumbani. I want to go home. Lucas: Yes! 'Nyumbani' means 'at home' or 'home'. So that's useful after a long day. Luna: Definitely. What about school? I remember 'shule' is school. Lucas: Right, 'shuleni' means 'at school' or 'to school'. So 'Nataka kwenda shuleni'. Luna: Nataka kwenda shuleni. I want to go to school. Lucas: You got it. Let's do one more: 'hospitalini' — to the hospital. Luna: Nataka kwenda hospitalini. I want to go to the hospital. Lucas: Excellent. And if you need to go to the library, that's 'maktabani'. 'Nataka kwenda maktabani'. Luna: Nataka kwenda maktabani. I want to go to the library. Now I'm ready to say where I'm going. Lucas: Let's practice a little scene. I'll ask you 'Unataka kwenda wapi?' — 'Where do you want to go?' You answer. Luna: Okay, ask me. Lucas: Unataka kwenda wapi? Luna: Nataka kwenda sokoni. Lucas: Kwa nini? Why? To buy something? Luna: Yes, maybe some fruit. Ndizi au maembe. Lucas: Good. Let's try another: Unataka kwenda wapi? Luna: Nataka kwenda nyumbani. I'm tired. Lucas: Understandable. So now you can say where you want to go. Let's review all five places. Luna: Okay: sokoni, nyumbani, shuleni, hospitalini, maktabani. Lucas: And the phrase to use with each is 'Nataka kwenda'. Luna: Nataka kwenda sokoni, Nataka kwenda nyumbani, etc. Lucas: You're a natural. Now, you know, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Swahili, there's a small way you can support us. Luna: Yeah, we keep the show ad-free and listener-funded. Some listeners already chip in monthly. Lucas: Exactly. It's through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. That's what makes it possible to keep making episodes. Luna: Totally optional, but it helps us keep going. Now back to practice — ask me another question. Lucas: Unataka kwenda wapi? Luna: Nataka kwenda maktabani. I want to read. Lucas: Good. So remember: 'Nataka kwenda' plus a place. Practice that this week. Thanks for listening, and we'll see you next time. Luna: Kwa heri! Goodbye!
