Transcript
- 0:28And we're live. Welcome to the All Balls No
- 0:30Philtre podcast. Live from the cabin kitchen.
- 0:33I'm Zach. He's Brad.
- 0:35We're back. And behind the scenes, we have a
- 0:38man that was once reportedly barged from IKEA for walking
- 0:41around it the wrong way. He's researching cattle.
- 0:44Researcher Carl. I mean, that's a rocky move,
- 0:46walking the wrong way around IKEA like that's an accident
- 0:49waiting to happen. There's literally arrows on the
- 0:51floor. There's literally arrows on the
- 0:53floor. How can you get so wrong?
- 0:55How you doing mate? All right.
- 0:57I'm good, mate. Yeah, I'm good.
- 0:58It's good to be back. We've had a week off again.
- 1:00I mean for good reason I think. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06Good to hear my mind. Good to hear.
- 1:08It would not, it would Nice have a bit of a break to be a hug of
- 1:11the light here. I thought it'd be a lot more to
- 1:12go through today, but we're going to get into that in just a
- 1:15second. But yeah, we're back.
- 1:18So yeah, what have we got to go through today, mate?
- 1:21Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
- 1:28Oh, God, the NFL, right. Like there was so much publicity
- 1:34moving up to the draft and like, you know, the teasing bits and
- 1:38we knew this draft was a little bit meh.
- 1:42Is it it were it were like the the obvious one-on-one pick.
- 1:45We're going to go somewhere and all this jazz, right?
- 1:47But we knew it a little bit meh. And the breaking news that we
- 1:52have for you today is that Chris Boswell signed an extension.
- 2:00I mean like. Absolutely send it all.
- 2:03Jesus, Like it's just it has just died off.
- 2:06There's not there's not even been much talk or clips of of
- 2:09the NFL rookies kind of online. There's been there, there's been
- 2:12the odd one and none of them looked fantastic.
- 2:14It yeah, it's just a bit mess. So I apologise on the NF LS
- 2:18behalf that we haven't got much more.
- 2:20It kind of goes through with you guys today.
- 2:24It's a really weird period though, isn't it?
- 2:26Like because obviously you've had a few of the sort of rookie
- 2:29mini camps are the called I don't know.
- 2:32So you've seen some of the rookies turn up to their sort of
- 2:36new teams and have a bit of a runaround.
- 2:38But even then the star is a pretty dry and pretty naff.
- 2:43But you know, we'll, we'll get to it anyway and we'll, we'll
- 2:45try and keep you entertained for the next 3 minutes.
- 2:50And, but, but we have got something nice in store.
- 2:53So we will, we will touch on the news, the, the very bits of news
- 2:57that there is. But if you listen to our pod
- 3:00week in week out or Fortnite, Fortnite out, that's not saying
- 3:04is it? But if you listen regularly, we,
- 3:07a few weeks ago, we sort of touched base with all the NFL
- 3:11teams in the AFC. We got in, we got our sort of
- 3:16way into the AFC and it's took us a bit of graft over the last
- 3:20few weeks. That's that's, you know, maybe
- 3:21part of the reason for the delay.
- 3:23But we've actually finally been able to bring you the latest
- 3:27words from all of the NFC team. So today's app will feature NFC
- 3:32sentences. So one statement from each of
- 3:36our NFC teams we will visit. I can't speak for the Challenge
- 3:40Cup semi final weekend. And as always, all of the balls
- 3:45and Cal's conundrum. Well, yeah, now they were tough
- 3:49getting the the NFC team. They didn't play, they didn't
- 3:52play too much ball to get, you know, as as what was like.
- 3:55But we're here. We've got the scoop for you.
- 3:57We used our insider inside a null to get to get from that
- 4:01there. We have got a little bit more
- 4:03news. We did kind of play down to it
- 4:05there. We've got a little bit more news
- 4:06for you in the Chris Boswell extension.
- 4:07I mean, I know it's exciting. David Unjoku has signed for the
- 4:12charges. Justin Herbert has got himself a
- 4:15new weapon over there. I like this sign.
- 4:19I'm not going to lie. I've I think Joker who's been
- 4:22one of them. Like he had that so much praise
- 4:24and promise and, and he were consistent at Cleveland, but
- 4:29consistently average. And I always think he had that.
- 4:32He had that bit more in him than what Cleveland got out of him.
- 4:36But I just thought he were comfortable there.
- 4:38I like this signing personally. What do you think?
- 4:41I think it's a good one. I think it's, I think it's a
- 4:43good one for Herbert to have someone like Unjaku and Joku
- 4:48there. I think it's it's a nice signing
- 4:52for Mike McDaniel as well. It was kind of the thing, other
- 4:55than the sort of one season maybe when he was at Miami, that
- 4:58having that tight end there was probably the thing that eluded
- 5:03him a little bit. The only thing with Joku though,
- 5:07is I do rate him. I think he's a quality player.
- 5:10He's been a favourite of mine in the fantasy leagues for a few
- 5:12years. I know that's not the real
- 5:13world, is it? But he tends to just have like
- 5:17he is generally consistent, but he just has these moments where
- 5:22he'll catch a pass that he really shouldn't catch or he'll
- 5:27just drop an absolute clanger, whether that's like a mist block
- 5:31or a drop that was in his hands. It's it's generally consistent.
- 5:36But he just has these random moments where you thinking
- 5:39easily or oh, he's actually nowhere near as good as I
- 5:41thought. So hopefully, you know, in the
- 5:44right game plan and and with a what is ultimately a quality
- 5:47quarterback, really, he has some success there.
- 5:51I think Chargers will probably suit his playing style, I think,
- 5:55But obviously time will tell because it's going to be
- 5:57slightly it's going to be new, isn't it?
- 5:58You got Mike McDaniel there now, but I think Harbaugh will still
- 6:02have his sort of fingers all over that sort of playbook to an
- 6:07extent. And then you've just got the Wiz
- 6:08kid mastermind working, like drawing up crazy, wacky ideas
- 6:12for it within that same sort of vision of Harbour, I think.
- 6:18So it'll be an. Interesting.
- 6:20That's it. And I think you kind of you you
- 6:23phrased it kind of right and he's consistently inconsistent
- 6:27with his with his with his stuff.
- 6:29And I agree he's, he's just, he can be, he can excel.
- 6:35And I, I think he was, if he's ever going to see the best of
- 6:37him, it will be in this offence where he has consistent weapons
- 6:43around him to to kind of not give him that likes here or
- 6:45there. I mean, it's, it's a one year
- 6:46deal. What what's he got to lose?
- 6:49Will he see, will he see the field all the time?
- 6:51Probably not. But yeah, I will tell him with
- 6:54time, we'll tell him that. But Oswell's deal, four years,
- 6:5728 million for a place to come, decent money coming in for him.
- 7:01He's just, he can't save himself up there with the Steelers,
- 7:04really. Yeah, I think, you know, I think
- 7:07last year and Callum will probably chime up in our chat if
- 7:11I'm wrong here, but last season was probably one of his more
- 7:16average seasons if I do recall. I won't pretend to be completely
- 7:20all over it with kickers, but you know, Boswell's pretty a big
- 7:24name really is is pretty consistent.
- 7:26He's is a solid kicker, but I think last year he's probably
- 7:30had a more average year by his standards.
- 7:33And so I think, you know, four years, 28 mil, What's that 7 mil
- 7:37a year? That's not bad money for a
- 7:39kicker. I'm sure they can't complain.
- 7:40You know, it's one mil less than Joker.
- 7:42Yeah, it's it's not a bad place to be, is it?
- 7:46Getting that consistency from a solid kicker for the Steelers.
- 7:52As they exactly is good is good. From there, we also have the NFL
- 7:57and the referee, the referees association.
- 8:02They have signed a new deal. So if you were aware, the
- 8:05referees don't work for the NFL, they work with the NFL.
- 8:10They're a completely different organisation.
- 8:11They're like subcontractors and they've just signed a new deal
- 8:14to kind of carry on being subbies, babe, which blows my
- 8:18mind because I'm pretty sure and please roast me in the comments
- 8:22down below all over our socials at ABNF pod.
- 8:26By the way, if you're not following, go follow roast me
- 8:28down below. If if this is wrong, I am pretty
- 8:30sure that the the majority of the NFL refs are actually part
- 8:33time like they they were on a part time wage prior to it.
- 8:40I think they are, yeah. But I think the the interesting
- 8:42thing with this though is just trying to get the sort of new.
- 8:46It's like they're, it's the bargaining deal or whatever the
- 8:49call, isn't it? I forgot the official name for
- 8:51it, but it's that. But what like you see the NFLPA
- 8:54doing, but it's for the referees now.
- 8:55I think what would have happened here, unlike with the NFL
- 8:58players, obviously, if they don't get their deal, then you
- 9:00end up in like a shutdown like you've had.
- 9:02I can't remember how long ago it was, but with the referees, what
- 9:07you'd have ended up with is almost like backup referees on
- 9:09the field. And I think we already complain
- 9:12about the missed calls or the poor sort of human error element
- 9:17to it. So you'd have had that even
- 9:20tenfold. So I think it's it's a good
- 9:22thing really that we've got experienced refs on the field.
- 9:26Yeah, no, it is. And like I said, what what would
- 9:29the what would the do if the if it didn't happen?
- 9:32I mean, technology takes over. What hell, it's it's a good.
- 9:36This is as exciting as the news guys.
- 9:38We're trying to make it fun for you, I promise you.
- 9:40But this is the biggest it gets. The NFL will have to sign a new
- 9:43deal. I can't say much more on it.
- 9:47Yeah, right. Moving on to the juicy bit.
- 9:51The NFC teams have responded. They have spoken.
- 9:56We asked them the same as the AFC teams.
- 9:59Give us, give us a give us a sentence that describes your
- 10:04team in the best that you can do.
- 10:06Be brutally honest. We promise you, I won't tell
- 10:08anybody else we want. You're brutal, honest first
- 10:11person. Yeah.
- 10:13Review self. Review self.
- 10:15It's like the the confession box when you see in churches.
- 10:18That's what that's what this is right now, Right.
- 10:21And we're going to start with the NFC East, Brad.
- 10:26So who who got back in touch with yourself when it came down
- 10:29to this mate? So I went for the big dog.
- 10:33I went straight to Jared Jones. You know, good old.
- 10:36Joe OK. Cocktails and whiskeys or
- 10:38whatever in his hands. Yeah.
- 10:39And. And he was, you know, it was
- 10:42really sort of quite forthcoming, really.
- 10:46And I won't try to emulate his accent.
- 10:49And but he said about, you know, the Dallas Cowboys, look, we win
- 10:54the offseason every single year. Look at us this year, Sky
- 10:59Sports. They're telling us we're
- 11:01contenders. But then ultimately, we fold
- 11:04under pressure like a deck chair the second the playoffs start.
- 11:07What can we do? Hey, at least he's honest.
- 11:10I I kind of agree, Jerry, I kind of agree with that right.
- 11:13I kind of agree with that. You, you do you do get that, but
- 11:16you do feel like a bit like a deck chair.
- 11:18Well, funny you say that because the, the Philadelphia Eagles got
- 11:22in touch with me right and I sent him a bit of an e-mail.
- 11:25I like I like Saquin. To be fair, I, I didn't, I
- 11:27picked him up with it. But to look, describe yourself.
- 11:30And the Philadelphia Eagles replied with We win one Super
- 11:34Bowl and suddenly after our fans think that we should win it
- 11:36every season and it should end in a parade.
- 11:39But they're wrong. And I kind of get it.
- 11:43They do get there, but like, they need the family to wake up
- 11:47and realise that it's not going to be every season.
- 11:52Who's next on your own? Conversation from the Eagles.
- 11:56There exactly that. Exactly that.
- 12:01I I spoke to the Giants, you know, so speaking obviously
- 12:03spoke about 1/2 hour brother and speaking about the other now,
- 12:06yeah, I got in touch with the the Giants and you know, the big
- 12:10dogs, the big name that they are.
- 12:12And I think I think the feeling it this year.
- 12:16So they said, look, we've cleared the decks.
- 12:18We've moved on from the old era we've got as a QB and now we're
- 12:23fully back in our favourite phase and that is convincing
- 12:27ourselves that this rebuild is finally the clever one.
- 12:33Hey, better late than never, right?
- 12:34Better late than never. With it, I am better than ever.
- 12:40I got a quick response from the Washington commanders when it
- 12:43when it came down from the NFC East there and they they're
- 12:46they're pretty confident. They're pretty confident, but
- 12:48they're a bit shocked at the same time.
- 12:49Man, we finally look, we finally look competent again.
- 12:53And honestly, nobody knows how to react.
- 12:55Now we've got this quarterback and look, I kind of see where
- 12:58they're going. I mean, he's he's just come back
- 13:00of injury. I kind of see where they're
- 13:01going with this, that no one knows how to react now.
- 13:03Now Washington are actually a decent team.
- 13:07Oh, what? You know what, I'm just think
- 13:09I'm just thinking back here, right?
- 13:10I don't think anyone knows how to react to this new sort of
- 13:12rebrand again of theirs or slight rebrand.
- 13:15I don't think, I don't think we ever spoke about this on the
- 13:18pod. So have you seen their logo with
- 13:23the spear going through it? Yes, yes.
- 13:28So I don't know if you've noticed this and I have seen it
- 13:32on socials anyway, but my eye sort of light just latches onto
- 13:35these sort of things straight away.
- 13:37It's basically an impossible logo.
- 13:41So like the spear kind of goes, obviously it's it's going
- 13:45through the West, but it kind of goes like behind part of the
- 13:49West in front of part of it and then behind it sort of thing.
- 13:52But if you actually look at it, it's it's actually like, it's
- 13:55one of those like optical illusions, you know, where it's
- 13:58just, it doesn't, it can't actually happen in the way that
- 14:00it's showing. And it's so, so bizarre.
- 14:04Callum's just put a picture of it into our our private chat
- 14:07now. So you've got it like coming.
- 14:08Oh yeah, left to right in front. And then it kind of like just
- 14:12comes through the middle of the double.
- 14:14It's so weird. It just doesn't work.
- 14:16It just doesn't. Work it is.
- 14:18It is why it's like they've missed.
- 14:21It's like they've missed a bit off the middle to make it like
- 14:24it's going through the West. It's like that you got a
- 14:26staircase that goes up and down in that, in that square.
- 14:29Yeah, yeah. It's like that.
- 14:31It's so bizarre because you think how many hundreds of
- 14:35thousands upon millions of the probably paid on this rebrand
- 14:39and the design. And that was literally when I
- 14:41saw this logo, the first thing I noticed.
- 14:44And it's a shame actually, because I really like the
- 14:46Washington rebrand. But as soon as I saw this I was
- 14:48like, Oh my God, what is that? I'll never I'll not be able to
- 14:52see that now. I'll not be able to understand
- 14:55that. I've I've I've not I've seen the
- 14:57new logo. I'd seen the new rebound.
- 14:58I really like it. I think it looks clean, but I'd
- 15:02not seen I'd not noticed that I'd now seen that.
- 15:04I won't Unsee that. Have you seen it?
- 15:06If so, let us know in the comments whether you're cheating
- 15:08on YouTube or listen on Spotify. There's videos on this, by the
- 15:11way, so you can come and see our beautiful faces.
- 15:12If you want to over on over on YouTube, drop us a follow while
- 15:16you're there and hit like and all that judge.
- 15:18You know what I'm saying? Yeah.
- 15:20Let us know your thoughts on that.
- 15:23Are we moving on to the NFC North now, Brad, is that am I
- 15:26correct on that? Yeah, let's do it, Let's do it.
- 15:29Who've you got for us, Zack? So Chicago Bears were kind of
- 15:35got me an e-mail back. We're back in five.
- 15:37That's how they were doing. I asked how are Caleb's doing?
- 15:39You know, my fantasy starting QB, my boy.
- 15:42And yeah, they said, look, we've been searching for an elite
- 15:44quarterback for so long, I was starting to think they're not
- 15:46real until now. So look, they've got all of
- 15:50their. They've got all of their,
- 15:53they're backing Caleb. But I'm all for this.
- 15:55Let's go. I'm I'm back here.
- 15:57I'm back. The Bears.
- 16:01I mean, they've definitely sort of shown that improvement,
- 16:03haven't they? So I like the confidence.
- 16:06I like the confidence. Let's see if they can put the
- 16:08money where the mouth is. Speaking of the confidence, the
- 16:11Detroit Lions, they're saying, look, I've fully bought into
- 16:16this whole biting kneecaps running through brick walls.
- 16:20We're tougher than you, identity.
- 16:23And now I'm not just lovable anymore, I'm actively trying to
- 16:28fight the entire league and somehow still managing to win a
- 16:32lot of the time. Aggressive, fair reflection.
- 16:37Aggressive I'm I'm I dig it. I dig it.
- 16:40See Green Bay, Green Bay. I don't think they kind of
- 16:45caught on with the sarcasm as like, be honest and I promise
- 16:48you I won't tell anybody what you're saying type thing because
- 16:51they were a little bit too honest to be fair.
- 16:54Because they come back and say, like, we spend every draft
- 16:56ignoring the wide receivers in what, in round one, just to see
- 16:59how long it takes our QB to notice it's a little bit, you
- 17:03know, taking shot, taking shots at your QB.
- 17:06They're like, Jesus, come on, I know what I mean.
- 17:10Hi boys. I like it.
- 17:15I like it. The the Vikings had a very
- 17:17similar message to the Giants. You know, I don't know if
- 17:19they're on a similar sort of wavelength here, but they said,
- 17:21look, we've gone through more starting quarterbacks, the most
- 17:25teams go through coordinators. We've been cycling through hope,
- 17:30through hype and through heartbreak on a yearly basis.
- 17:34And now I'm just sat here pretending that the next
- 17:38experiment is definitely the one that finally makes sense.
- 17:44I'm not sure it is. I'm not sure it is.
- 17:47I think that if we emailed them again next year when they've got
- 17:51another QB that they've drafted, I think they'll be saying the
- 17:53exact same thing once again. Copy, paste, save.
- 18:01Yes, exactly that. Now moving on now to the NFC
- 18:05South, who we are. First reply back if you got any
- 18:08owl that is from the NSC South. It was the yeah, no, I was quite
- 18:13lucky. I've I've, you know, I've been
- 18:15consistently lucky with this. Like, so it took us a bit of
- 18:17graft, but we've got the Outlander Falcons and they said
- 18:20I've gone all in on the most niche quarterback identity
- 18:24crisis in the league, building my entire offence around
- 18:28left-handed QBs. And now I'm basically running a
- 18:32system so specific it feels like I'm not trying to win games, I'm
- 18:36trying to win trivia nights. Hey, I like it.
- 18:42I like it. I I, I do you kind of the
- 18:46falling, the falling into that rhythm are there?
- 18:48Yeah, it's the beside in two and next.
- 18:50I mean which? Team has two left-handed
- 18:52quarterbacks on in the backroom. Exactly, exactly.
- 18:58New Orleans Saints again, they they decided to to pour that
- 19:04out. You know, nice, short, snappy
- 19:06little. I keep, I keep kicking the
- 19:08salary cap down down the road, but the future me won't notice.
- 19:13But yeah, you are hammering that salary cap and your future me
- 19:15will notice this. You need to be careful about
- 19:18this. You know, I mean, that should
- 19:20have been a statement. From 10 years ago.
- 19:23And it's still active now. It's still active now.
- 19:26When they sent me, I was like, I'm just going to have a quick
- 19:29Google on this and make sure that they're not looking at the
- 19:31books from like five years ago and they're still terrible on
- 19:35their salary cap, but I'm pretty sure they're not still paying
- 19:38like. Like you've got to give them
- 19:41like credit for it though, aren't you?
- 19:42Because it's just messy and and they're still managed to make it
- 19:46work. Exactly that, Exactly that.
- 19:49Who's your final team from the NFC South?
- 19:51Them. The Panthers had a very sort of
- 19:56honest self reflection, so they said look managed to sneak into
- 20:00the playoffs and we briefly convinced everyone that we were
- 20:04building something special. But in honesty, it just turns
- 20:08out I was just the least messy team in an absolutely horrendous
- 20:12division. And now reality is well and
- 20:15truly turned up to remind me I'm not actually there yet.
- 20:17I'm still a bit shit. Hey, look, I like it.
- 20:22He's he's he's right. He's right, He's right.
- 20:24But Tampa Bay, Speaking of being trying to be a little bit shit,
- 20:29as I say, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they they responded quite
- 20:34honestly as well with it. So look, we were supposed to
- 20:36collapse once Tom Brady left, which is awkward because we kind
- 20:40of forgot how to do that by signing the people we did.
- 20:45So they tried to collapse, but they haven't.
- 20:47And it just hasn't worked for them.
- 20:50Yeah, fair enough. That's difficult.
- 20:52Books, isn't it like they've they've kind of just kept going,
- 20:55They've just kept going and and kind of just there.
- 20:58Fair play. Yeah.
- 21:00And you know what, like when they signed Baker, I guarantee
- 21:05now when they signed Baker, it were in the backroom.
- 21:08Staff were signing for a couple of year, maybe we'll say signing
- 21:12to get 2 years out of him, decent season, get a couple of
- 21:16decent draft picks, you know, rebuild that way.
- 21:18And now while the 3-4 year, three years in with him now and
- 21:22he's the best he's been He's yeah, the the best, the best
- 21:28he's been. So yeah, moving on now to yeah
- 21:36exactly. Moving on now to the NFC West.
- 21:39Arizona Cardinals made they they said, look, I'm rebranding, I'm
- 21:43rebuilding and somehow ending up exactly where I started.
- 21:51So that's the moon there. Yeah, it's an honest, an honest
- 21:55wound. From there it.
- 21:58Was an it is. It is the LA Rams.
- 22:02So I'm still clinging onto my MVP calibre QB like my whole
- 22:07identity depends on it. But I've also panic drafted his
- 22:10replacement in the first round, so I've basically paid premium
- 22:16price for a backup. I'm going to pretend I didn't
- 22:19overthink while quietly starting the most expensive, unnecessary
- 22:25quarterback awkwardness in the league.
- 22:29Yeah, pretty much right. Pretty much right with that one.
- 22:33Absolutely nailed it there. They scream like the Falcons of
- 22:37last year when they when they had that, you know like that two
- 22:41QB by the side 2 QB type thing. I'm almost thinking like Green
- 22:45Bay when they drafted Jordan Love.
- 22:48Oh yeah, good shout. Good shout, actually, yeah, good
- 22:51shout. I like that one.
- 22:54Well, look, the the Niners, my final team, the final response
- 22:57and they took a while to respond, to be fair.
- 22:59But look, I'm grateful either way.
- 23:00The Niners came back and said, look, we create, we collect all
- 23:04pros like Pokémon cards and still end the season explaining
- 23:07why. We're explaining to our fans why
- 23:09we didn't win the Super Bowl. So the collecting, the
- 23:13collecting the good players, Yeah.
- 23:17Yeah, fair, fair. I mean, they got Mike Evans now
- 23:19and they're like, it'd be interesting.
- 23:20Exactly. Hands out.
- 23:21It's a great signing. It's a great.
- 23:23I agree. Our final one, then here are
- 23:25Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks.
- 23:29I've just won the Super Bowl and I'm acting like I've unlocked
- 23:33football itself. I'm parading around like I'm the
- 23:36blueprint for success even though deep down everyone knows
- 23:41I'm about 5 roster decisions away from either repeating it or
- 23:45immediately remembering. And still the same franchise
- 23:48that enjoys chaos just as much as winning.
- 23:53I like it. I like it honest and honest as
- 23:57always Look guys, they are our NFC one line sentences, right?
- 24:03It took us a lot. It took us a lot of work to get
- 24:05there. Mr and from the AFC as well.
- 24:07Let us know what was your favourite, which one which team
- 24:10described themselves the best? Let us know in the comments
- 24:12below. Let us know on a social as well.
- 24:14Please feel free to go over there and and hit the follows
- 24:16and all that jazz. Promise you're getting close to
- 24:18the season. We will have more excited news
- 24:21and things to talk about and we would go from there.
- 24:23And but that does kind of leaders away from the NFL now,
- 24:28mate, we are we've spoke about it.
- 24:30We've we've discussed it. We're going to walk away from it
- 24:32a little bit now try and get some new actually to tease for
- 24:36next week. The schedule is getting released
- 24:40around this time. We've had some reports already.
- 24:42We haven't missed that. We we know that already, but we
- 24:45want to save that for a bit more of a in depth episode next week
- 24:48on the schedule. So please bear with us during
- 24:51next week. We'll discuss it and we'll
- 24:52breakdown who's got the best, who's got the worst, easiest,
- 24:54hardest, all that jazz. So we're going to there now
- 24:58moving on 2nd favourite sport. We're talking rugby league.
- 25:02I can't speak get him off ref. It's back with the IT will
- 25:06Challenge Cup semi final weekend.
- 25:09Some surprising scores, Brad, some very surprising scores.
- 25:15And by some I mean one. I mean, to nil Saint Helens like
- 25:23that is, I mean, we've we've said it really a few times this
- 25:26season. And with that we can have looked
- 25:28very, very, very good. But to nil Saint Helens 32 nil
- 25:35was just yeah, I mean outstanding, outstanding
- 25:40performance for a semi final, which typically tend to be
- 25:42really quite close games a. 100 percent, 100% and we say that
- 25:46we're going to be really good this year.
- 25:48This past couple of week they've not been on form, they've not
- 25:50walked like the Wigan that started the season off as good
- 25:53as they did do. But then to come out and they
- 25:57say if this would have been a, you know, a normal Super League
- 26:01ground fixture, 32 nil, you can kind of look at it and go, Oh
- 26:04yeah, nice and modern. But a Challenge Cup semi final
- 26:07to get to Wembley, you know, which is I think is it next week
- 26:09or the week after? This is a big result, a very big
- 26:13result. And is this Wigan back on their
- 26:16their way of, you know, winning and to go into the second
- 26:21fixture of of Hawke R and Warrington 3212 to Hawke R there
- 26:26without touch on both games, like independently at the start
- 26:29of the season. If you'd have said before any
- 26:30games, you said, oh, who's going to be the Grand final or who's
- 26:33going to be the Challenge Cup final, you'd have hands down had
- 26:36these two teams in there. But we're playing both of them.
- 26:39And then they both wouldn't start off really well, wouldn't
- 26:41start off quite poor. And now he's he's looking back
- 26:44in that way where, OK, I put a dominant performance against
- 26:47Wallington. Yeah, yeah, I think it's going
- 26:51to be a I think it's got all the makings to be a really good
- 26:55final actually. And you're absolutely right.
- 26:57Like we were looking at at the beginning of the season, there's
- 26:59just chalk and cheese teams. But I think we've said it a few
- 27:02times, aren't we? But maybe that distraction of
- 27:04the the World Club Challenge and then the the Vegas game and
- 27:08things, probably too much of A distraction for a team like
- 27:11whole KR, which ultimately probably aren't used to the big
- 27:14time games. You know, if you look at teams
- 27:16like Wigan or Saint Helens probably would have managed that
- 27:19a bit better because they used to being in them scenarios.
- 27:22But it is coming good for Hulke out at the right time.
- 27:25They're going to be in the final.
- 27:26They're doing well in the league again.
- 27:28So I think, you know, it's got, it's got the potential to be a
- 27:31really good final. So that's two weeks on Sunday or
- 27:35Saturday, the 30th of May, whatever day that falls on.
- 27:38But you know, it'll be a, it'll be a cracker for sure.
- 27:43Yeah, definitely it's it's good and and to be fair, these games
- 27:48from the weekend if if you haven't, if you get a chance to
- 27:50watching the game so we can go look go online and look at any
- 27:53of the news. These were hard hitting games.
- 27:55Both of the games they had some solid hits and I'm talking this
- 28:00it genuinely with it with the first weekend of rugby for a
- 28:02while. What reminded me of like late
- 28:05night is early night is kind of rugby, you know, the bring back
- 28:09the Biff, you know, there there was some mates and it was just
- 28:12nice to see. Yeah, it was it was just nice to
- 28:17see. And you know, look, if Wigan win
- 28:20the Challenge Cup, do we do a round two of pies?
- 28:23Who knows, We'll have to see. But yeah, that's the that's the
- 28:29run now for it. Just who wins, who wins the
- 28:31Challenge Cup final? OK RR Wigan.
- 28:35Oh, that's tough. That's really tough.
- 28:37I think, I think this season the way it's kind of gone, it makes
- 28:42it really hard to say because like we'll just discuss like the
- 28:45slow start for all the the good start for Wigan and that's kind
- 28:48of switched a little bit. I'm going to go, I'm going to go
- 28:54to the Paiaters, I'm going for Wigan.
- 28:57Research Cal's Police Victor Penson as well.
- 29:00He's saying we're going to look. My heart says maybe no, me head
- 29:07says Wigan, my heart says Wigan, but I can't agree.
- 29:11We're both come on. OK, R.
- 29:16My heart doesn't say a wig, and I want the Yorkshire team to win
- 29:19it, even though it's sort of like East Riding is kind of like
- 29:23that weird sort of, you know, sibling that you didn't really
- 29:27want. But I'm kidding.
- 29:29I'm kidding, I'm kidding. Listeners, if you're from the
- 29:31East Ridings, please keep listening.
- 29:32We love you all, but yeah, I think we can probably just just
- 29:37do it. Yeah, yeah, no, I'm back in.
- 29:40OK, go on. Let's go, boys, let's go.
- 29:43That's the rundown of the rugby league this weekend.
- 29:45We're flying through this, babe, but we are going to touch some
- 29:49of the balls right now and we're getting into our regular
- 29:53occurrence, our regular segment of all other balls.
- 29:57Hey Brad, we do me a favour and just explain to the lovely
- 29:59listeners at home what is all the balls?
- 30:04I will. So all the balls is where we
- 30:08talk about other sports. So it's not talking about balls,
- 30:11although sometimes it is, although as we've found rarely
- 30:14it involves balls. Yeah.
- 30:16So we visit the sort of stories or headlines from the world of
- 30:20sport in general. And the first one actually does
- 30:25kind of involve balls. So Zach, take us through it.
- 30:30This was a sort of an in team fight, right?
- 30:33Yeah, so Real Madrid had a training session the other day
- 30:39and two of their players got into a bit of a bust up in the
- 30:41in the locker room, on the in the tunnel, the way out.
- 30:44And, and I'm not going to lie to you, I'm not even going.
- 30:48I looked at the names and thought, Nope, in the bin.
- 30:51So they're just two players that decided to to get into a bit of
- 30:55a bit of a scuffle right in the changing rooms and they got into
- 30:59a fight basically where 1 ended up, I think he hit his head and
- 31:03got taken into hospital because of it.
- 31:06Now both players have been fined €500,000 which works out about
- 31:11470,000 British pounds. What made me chuckle the most
- 31:16out of out of this story is when you read in the story in the
- 31:21league they want Sky Sports News over everyone.
- 31:23These did. The statement states Real Madrid
- 31:26called a crisis meeting. Like like they go into like,
- 31:30like it's World War three calling a crisis meeting over
- 31:33two players having a bit of an argument and yeah, a bit of a a
- 31:36bit of a fistic up. Neither have probably been hit
- 31:38that hard in their life. Like, yeah, it might toughen up
- 31:42a little bit. I just thought a bit of a funny
- 31:44one. No one likes an inter team kind
- 31:47of argument and and things. So hey look, it don't happen all
- 31:51the time and get a bit, get a bit balls behind and let's go.
- 31:57Yeah, I mean, we've seen it and we like obviously in our team in
- 32:00brick ball, like every now and then you're going to get it when
- 32:03guys are competing, like, you know, they want to compete, they
- 32:06want to be the best that they can be.
- 32:08And like, emotions run hot and you can sometimes see that.
- 32:12And but like a crisis meeting sounds a bit dramatic, I guess.
- 32:15But, you know, let them let them sort it out.
- 32:20It just, it just made me chuckle that the crisis, but they have
- 32:25that when bad things happen, not not a little fight like get over
- 32:28it guys, come on. So that's the first story of the
- 32:31the all of the balls go into story #2 brag what we've got.
- 32:38F1's back, baby. F1 finally, it's like, you know,
- 32:43let's start this amazing new season with these new
- 32:45regulations for a couple of weeks and then we'll stop for
- 32:48like a month and 1/2 obviously out of control.
- 32:51You know, the, the sort of Middle East war sort of
- 32:54basically cancelled a couple of races out there.
- 32:58So, you know, let's not talk too much about that.
- 33:01But it's back and it was back in Miami, which is always like a
- 33:04big sort of celeb hotbed when it comes to the F1.
- 33:09And you see all the big names, you see the sport stars and you
- 33:12see the celebs, the actors, the actresses and musicians, blah,
- 33:15blah, blah. But you also see Kimi Antonelli,
- 33:19like, just dominating this year, absolutely dominating.
- 33:24He was unreal and I just think that Mercedes is unreal list
- 33:32this year. I think Kim is going to take
- 33:34some some beating long term. I think he's going to take I
- 33:39don't know what I don't know what sort of George and why
- 33:41George can't get there to like in the same kind of speeds, if
- 33:48that makes sense. I don't know what the issue is
- 33:50there between them because they're running very similar
- 33:52cars. If anything, George is the the
- 33:54first driver. Kim is just getting more out of
- 33:57it. Just just touching right
- 34:00quickly. I know you mentioned Miami's
- 34:02like a a big celebrity kind of ordeal and did you did you did
- 34:08you watch the race by did you watch the build up to the race?
- 34:10I say. Yeah, I did.
- 34:12Obviously, you know, they, they moved early, didn't look to the
- 34:15potential weather and things and then it ended up being
- 34:17completely bone dry. But yeah, I did.
- 34:20Well, the one the the grid walkout were happening and Colin
- 34:24Farrell got interviewed on the grid walk right?
- 34:27And you see these celebrities on the grid right when the walk
- 34:31down and they're doing their interviews and stuff and none of
- 34:34them have got any clue what's going on.
- 34:37No one knows. They're just there because
- 34:39they've got a free invite. It's it's free publicity.
- 34:42Colin Farrell gets this, gets gets interview.
- 34:44This guy knows F1. I am talking.
- 34:49He will like Oh my God. Yeah, you know, blah blah.
- 34:52Did this, this and this and he started really mean.
- 34:54I went to my first race back in like 9 when I was like 17 with
- 34:58the boys. So and so came first.
- 35:00So and so came second. So and so came third.
- 35:02It was this and this. It was that season when they had
- 35:04the V10 and then it was just like, wow, you know what, credit
- 35:08where credit's due. You deserve that ticket onto
- 35:11that grid walk because you know this and I, I knew we were going
- 35:14to be talking everyone this week.
- 35:15I just thought, you know what that needs mentioning because
- 35:18the it's good to see. Yeah, it's like Miami is your
- 35:24your big one. You get your sort of Middle East
- 35:26ones actually that are quite big for it.
- 35:29And you get your Vegas one where you tend to get all your
- 35:31celebrities. Silverstone's quite big for it
- 35:33actually as well now. But yeah, I thought, you know,
- 35:37it's impressive when you see actually people who were there
- 35:39and actually know what they're talking about.
- 35:41And they're not there just for the the glitz and the glam of
- 35:44it, I guess. And he's bringing it back to the
- 35:47race itself, though, and talking about Antonelli and, and how
- 35:50he's sort of had an impressive year.
- 35:51He broke a record or set a record, however you want to
- 35:55phrase it in Miami. So because I'm just, I'm reading
- 35:58this just to make sure I say it right.
- 36:00So he becomes the first driver in F1 history to convert his
- 36:04first three career poles into wins.
- 36:08So for those that aren't into Formula One, a poll basically
- 36:12means you LED qualifying. So you start at the front of the
- 36:15race and then you and then he then converted that into a win
- 36:19and he's done that. His first 3 poles have been his
- 36:22first three wins and he's done that.
- 36:26Not just, you know, throughout a season he's done it in
- 36:28consecutive races for so for three races in a row he's set
- 36:32the best time in qualifying and then won the race, which at
- 36:36what, 19 I think is it. So he's actually one before he
- 36:40even had an actual driving licence.
- 36:43Like, you know, it's it kind of repays Toto because he's sort of
- 36:48seen him develop and developed him and he skipped him sort of
- 36:52stint. Normally you'd go like F3F2F1,
- 36:56that sort of thing, but Antonelli's actually missed
- 36:59various stages and has been put there and it's kind of been like
- 37:03Total can now sit there and say told you again.
- 37:05Yeah, there's, there's there were a lot of trust there for,
- 37:08for fucking me. And when he first came in, you
- 37:11know, last year and it were like, is he the right
- 37:14replacement for Lewis? Like he can really contract car
- 37:17as well as what was so-called last year and then this year
- 37:20it's it's complete even know George is is the he's the first
- 37:25driver. But what what makes me chuckle
- 37:29more than anything else and and it's Max Verstappen, for
- 37:33instance, he every week he's like bringing himself back into
- 37:37the media. I don't know if it's going to be
- 37:38my last year. I'm enjoying racing else.
- 37:40But no, no, you just don't like losing all the time.
- 37:43You don't like not being the top 2 fighter that then when him and
- 37:46Hamilton had the rivalry and he was losing to Hamilton, he liked
- 37:49to because he was the top 2 and then he took over that one and
- 37:51now Red Bull's shit. He don't want to be.
- 37:54He wants to jump ship while he can do and go do what he needs
- 37:57to do because he's made his money.
- 37:59I kind of get it, but suck it and see, brother.
- 38:01Like you can't. You can't.
- 38:03Like look at Alonzo. Alonzo is still just racing
- 38:06along, getting points here and there, just earning.
- 38:08Brad, he knew he used to be the best, if not the best in the
- 38:12world, and now he's not. It's like, dude, come on.
- 38:16I saw a random meme after the Miami race or during that
- 38:20weekend. I can't remember the numbers
- 38:22now, but it made me chuckle because obviously part is
- 38:24partnered up with Lance Stroll, Aston Martin, whose dad
- 38:27basically owns the team. And it was a quote from Lance
- 38:34Stroll. I think when them first 2 ended
- 38:37up just first being a team duo. And it was something along the
- 38:42lines basically saying like he's old and I'm I'm going to be
- 38:45faster. And since that statement, I
- 38:48think it was something daft like Stroll has outpaced.
- 38:55Oh God, mine's gone. Thank you.
- 38:58I got so caught up in the numbers.
- 39:00He's outpaced Alonzo once and every other single race since
- 39:06that quote over the last however many years, Alonzo has outpaced
- 39:09him. So it's just like, yeah, Lance
- 39:11Stroll, you probably shouldn't be here, but money, money talks.
- 39:16Yeah, definitely shouldn't. And Alonzo is the is the
- 39:18definition of just earning A pension.
- 39:20He's just, he's just feeding his pension pot right now each year.
- 39:24He don't need the money. He's just chipping away, racing
- 39:28away, still earning bread, being the face of it.
- 39:31It's nice to see there's some nice deliveries this this week
- 39:33as well. It would be racing ball.
- 39:36You posted a picture of the racing ball in our little group
- 39:38chat. I wasn't a lover of it on paper.
- 39:42And then I saw it on the grid and they were like, jeez, that's
- 39:46not too bad that, you know, I quite like that.
- 39:49Yeah, yeah, It looked lovely, didn't it?
- 39:51And then I thought the Cadillac was nice.
- 39:53It was. It was subtle, but I do like I
- 39:56like that they sort of, you know, is their first home Grand
- 39:59Prix on American soil. And nice to see that they had
- 40:02the like the subtle stars and stripes and then on the back of
- 40:05the wing and the rear wing, they had this sort of red, white and
- 40:07blue there and stuff, which is quite cool.
- 40:09It was nice. There's a couple of others, but
- 40:11I think they were the this stands out.
- 40:12I think was Alpine that had some slight variances.
- 40:15There weren't as many. I thought this year for Miami.
- 40:17Miami is quite a popular one to have the different liveries.
- 40:21Quite a few in Texas as well. Texas have a have a quite a few
- 40:24of them and that way I'm like that.
- 40:26Just I think they're now more just spreading out.
- 40:30The deliveries are getting spread out more rather than
- 40:32being concentrated to one or two races, which is nice to see
- 40:36because you're getting them. I'm not a Red Bull fan but are a
- 40:39racing Bull fan to be to be exact.
- 40:41But they always do super, super, super nice deliveries.
- 40:46Like when when Red Bull do the white one, I think he's very, is
- 40:49it Japan or wherever they go When Red Bull do the white one.
- 40:52Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous. But yeah, F1's bat baby, and I
- 40:59am so happy about that. So, so happy about that.
- 41:07Right, let's. Get Kyle's conundrum.
- 41:10Let's do it. Let's do it indeed, mate.
- 41:13Right. Last week, actually last.
- 41:15Not last week before we had a Kyle's conundrum.
- 41:17I actually think I just thought I knew it and then I started
- 41:22second guessing myself right. If I remember correctly, it was
- 41:25the which two, which two NFL team played the first game in
- 41:29London now? Yeah, is that is that is that
- 41:34the word in? Yeah.
- 41:35Is that the word in for it? Yeah, so first game in London.
- 41:39Yeah. So I I went to what I thought, I
- 41:44think is that game, which is Miami and New York Bucket 2008
- 41:53maybe. 2000 and. 70 I got a year out.
- 41:58The the word in confused me because it didn't say Wembley
- 42:03and London. It could have been.
- 42:04It could have been. I was thinking he's going to
- 42:06stick me up here with one of his stupid little knowledgeable
- 42:09megamind things and go back to 80s and find a game because he
- 42:14don't like. I just I'd second guess myself,
- 42:18get in. I think of the year, but I would
- 42:20die. Rained.
- 42:21It rained. I'll give you that.
- 42:25I, I knew it was dolphins. I, I wasn't there, but I knew it
- 42:31was dolphins and I just, I wasn't, I felt like it was
- 42:34giants, but I wasn't absolutely 100% certain.
- 42:38But I was fairly confident. I knew it was the mid 2000s, but
- 42:41I wouldn't, I wouldn't have sort of been confident to put any
- 42:44money on it. But yeah, I mean, yeah, not bad
- 42:47one with that one. I think a few people on the
- 42:48socials got that one right last time as well.
- 42:52Yeah, which is she's good to see it.
- 42:56Yeah, I remember it quite really the first game I've been to,
- 42:58absolutely sailing. Now, weirdly enough as well,
- 43:00they've always been in October and for the first, this is
- 43:03global warming striking now. But for the 1st 5 or 6 years of
- 43:07the NFL game has been in in London, it absolutely sailed it
- 43:11down. The weather were awful and I
- 43:12remember actually thinking about cancelling the games because
- 43:15Wembley and the Football Association were getting that
- 43:18wound up by tearing the England field up.
- 43:20But they didn't like it and all of a sudden global warming
- 43:23happened and the weather's half decent down most of the games.
- 43:27Yeah, it's mad. I do remember that.
- 43:28I do remember seeing that all over the news because I feel
- 43:30like England had a game not long after it.
- 43:33Yeah, So they were talking about how ridiculous it was and look
- 43:37at the state of the field because the NFL blah, blah,
- 43:39blah. Yeah, I do.
- 43:42I've really vividly remember that.
- 43:44I can't even get my words out. Vividly remember that.
- 43:47Shall we have a look at this this week's conundrum?
- 43:51Yes, please, let's go. I'm on.
- 43:52I'm on A1 win streak now. So before Patrick Mahomes in
- 43:592020 and 2023, who was the last quarterback to win in the NFLMVP
- 44:04and the Super Bowl in the same season, who was the last QB
- 44:10before so? Before Patrick Mahomes, 2023.
- 44:16OK. MVP and Super Bowl.
- 44:21OK. And the Super Bowl, I think this
- 44:23is. Quite this far as in the chat, I
- 44:26think it is, but I just want some clarity.
- 44:27Is it which was the last quarterback to win the NFLMVP
- 44:31and Super Bowl or NFLMVP and Super Bowl MVPI?
- 44:35Just want to get that absolute sort of clarity on that one.
- 44:39I feel like it's obvious. Yeah.
- 44:42So NFLMVP and just a Super Bowl title, OK.
- 44:46And would you and we just say it's the last QB before him?
- 44:49I think it's. I think, yeah, I think I should
- 44:53get this. That makes sense.
- 44:56That's that's why. That's why.
- 44:57That's why I'm swinging with this, Yeah.
- 45:02I'm not sure it's right though, but that's where that's where my
- 45:06mind sort of instantly goes. But I'm not sure.
- 45:08I feel like this is like one of those potential trick ones where
- 45:12like, of course it's that guy and then it's not.
- 45:16But that's it. But it's that era anyway.
- 45:19Look, let's have a think by discussing in the comments
- 45:22below, guys, right? Head over to our socials at ABNF
- 45:25Pod across all your socials. Go onto YouTube, go to Spotify,
- 45:28go onto Apple podcast and just search for all those no philtre
- 45:32podcasts. Get involved with it down there,
- 45:35hit subscribe like and all that jazz, but get involved with
- 45:38this, he said, He said, I think this is going to be one of them
- 45:40ones. I'm going to say my, I'm going
- 45:42to shoot my shot and keep my answer.
- 45:44But I think it's for anyone that's too obvious to be true.
- 45:46It could be somebody else. Well, TuneIn next week and we'll
- 45:52find out. And obviously next week we will
- 45:54be picking up on the NFL schedule and the international
- 45:58games that have been announced and the sort of we'll look at
- 46:02sort of which team's got the roughest schedule.
- 46:04So I think, you know, next week's going to be a good one, a
- 46:06jam packed one probably. So TuneIn next week and we will
- 46:10reveal the answer to what we think is maybe an obvious one
- 46:14here, but might have thrown a little curveball in a cheeky
- 46:17little research account. There we go.
- 46:21Right guys, we'll see you next week.
- 46:24Stay safe out there and God bless.
- 46:28Bye bye. Music.
