Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: Keep doing what you're doing Karen Chhour
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Did you see the reaction to Donald Trump's comments yesterday?
- 0:05Speaker 1: If you missed it, this is what he said about
- 0:07Speaker 1: Karmla Harris's race. She was Indian all the way and
- 0:10Speaker 1: then all of a sudden she made a turn and
- 0:12Speaker 1: she went she became a black. Just to be clear,
- 0:16Speaker 1: I see somebody should look into that too. When you
- 0:18Speaker 1: ask a continue in a very hostile, nasty time, what what? Anyway,
- 0:25Speaker 1: the media rightly ran the story and it was a
- 0:28Speaker 1: big deal. Isn't that exactly though, questioning someone's race? Isn't
- 0:32Speaker 1: that exactly what Lawadi waited he did to Karen Traw.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Isn't that exactly what he did the other day in
- 0:39Speaker 1: parliament when he asked what blood quantum are? You? Couldn't
- 0:44Speaker 1: the same be said of Calvin Davis, saying that Karen
- 0:47Speaker 1: Traw quote, lives in a puckyha world. She's Maldy by
- 0:51Speaker 1: the way, and what about Tapati Mardi? They said Karen
- 0:56Speaker 1: Taw should have been raised by Maldy caregivers instead of
- 1:00Speaker 1: Pucky how ones. This is a woman who's been through
- 1:02Speaker 1: the state care system and claimed that she had disdain
- 1:06Speaker 1: for Maori for her people. This week they said she's
- 1:13Speaker 1: just a puppet of her party, and she was basically
- 1:17Speaker 1: left in tears in the hallway to TV three. I
- 1:19Speaker 1: was still a person. I'm still a person, and I
- 1:24Speaker 1: feel like I'm getting that stripped away from me day
- 1:27Speaker 1: by day in this place. I've had enough. No apologies
- 1:32Speaker 1: from Tapati MARII, no accountability. I just think it's sad.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Put the politics to one side for a second. There's
- 1:41Speaker 1: a woman crying in a hallway. Wouldn't you want to
- 1:44Speaker 1: just say sorry if what I had said had made
- 1:46Speaker 1: you feel that way. Karen Traaw is not a bad person.
- 1:51Speaker 1: You might disagree with her policies, sure, but also her
- 1:55Speaker 1: treatment in the media this week. I think she's been
- 1:57Speaker 1: interrogated more about who bullied her then Julia and gender
- 2:02Speaker 1: ever was about actually bullying. It's a double standard, no wonder.
- 2:07Speaker 1: She's battling and struggling, and then Chippy turns around and
- 2:10Speaker 1: says she's not fit to be a minister. Gas lighting much.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I mean, I hate all these terms. I hate all
- 2:17Speaker 1: these words. Karen Shaw will be fine. She's a very
- 2:21Speaker 1: strong individual. I guess that just annoys me because if
- 2:25Speaker 1: the shoe was on the other foot, imagine, just imagine,
- 2:30Speaker 1: and where's the Human Rights Commission. Where's their statement on
- 2:33Speaker 1: this stuff? You know, you know what I mean. There'll
- 2:37Speaker 1: be attack dogs on social media. You can you can
- 2:39Speaker 1: just imagine how it would play out if the shoe
- 2:41Speaker 1: was on the other foot. I say, keep doing what
- 2:44Speaker 1: you're doing, Karen Shaw. You're hard working, you're conscientious, and
- 2:48Speaker 1: you can rise above it. For more from News talks'd
