9 People on a Rock in a Storm. She Rowed Out
The true story of Grace Darling, the lighthouse keeper's daughter who rowed into a storm. On 7 September 1838 the steamship Forfarshire broke in two on Big Harcar rock in the Farne Islands. From the Longstone lighthouse, 22-year-old Grace saw survivors on the rock. The sea looked too rough for the lifeboat, so she and her father rowed nearly a mile in a 21-foot open boat. Nine people lived. This is her documented story, and what fame cost her.
