- 0:03From the unexplained to the mundane, come join
- 0:06us on a Journey to the Fringe. Hello and welcome
- 0:13to Journey to the Fringe, which sometimes is
- 0:16a royalty podcast, but not today. No, today we're
- 0:20doing something else. We are your podcast hosts,
- 0:22Taylor and Chelsea, here today talking about
- 0:25aliens. Oh, you have my attention. It's actually
- 0:29been a while we've been on a Bigfoot binge. Yes.
- 0:33Not that long ago, I think. It actually might
- 0:36be over a year now. We did the greys episode.
- 0:38Well, I think that was more than a year ago.
- 0:41Yeah, probably. Giving you a background of grey
- 0:45aliens and their history. More so, like, reporting
- 0:48on them getting into the zeitgeist. And I always
- 0:50thought that this would eventually be. We're
- 0:52gonna look at other alien entities. And look,
- 0:55we actually got there. Chelsea, today we're going
- 0:58to be talking about the mantids or the mantis
- 1:00balls. Oh, I'm excited. This has been on our
- 1:03list for a long time. I think even before the
- 1:06greys were on there. Yeah. My initial intent
- 1:09is when I started doing the greys episode, the
- 1:11next one would be reptilians. But somehow this
- 1:13one ended up being the one I actually looked
- 1:16into first. And there is a lot going on with
- 1:19this entity. Really? I do know some stuff about
- 1:22them. I hear about them here and there, but they're
- 1:24not the number one. guys that well the number
- 1:27one guys you hear about are the grays you don't
- 1:29hear that much about them like i know they're
- 1:31out there i've heard this and that about them
- 1:34yeah so i'm interested to see There's a lot more
- 1:37going on than you'd expect with this one. Okay,
- 1:41I'm excited to learn some stuff Yeah, and actually
- 1:43it was because of a reddit binge that I got down
- 1:46this path Which I'll get to when we get to that
- 1:48part of the episode But without further ado,
- 1:51let's give you a little bit of a just an overview
- 1:53of what we're talking about and sorry I have
- 1:55one rant that just upsets me about not this species
- 1:59the mantis aliens but more so just praying mantises
- 2:03in general that i don't think they need the adjective
- 2:06praying in front of mantis i don't know of any
- 2:09other mantises where i'd say like which one and
- 2:11you're like you know the praying one right right
- 2:13that mantis and you would also know what exactly
- 2:17you're talking about just with mantis yeah And
- 2:20like, they all look like they're praying, I think.
- 2:24Is that why it's called that? That one doesn't
- 2:25even help. It's kind of like Groundhog. Witchhog?
- 2:28The one on the ground. Oh, that one also is on
- 2:31the ground, the normal hog. No, but you couldn't
- 2:33just call a ground hog a hog and know what you
- 2:37were talking about, though. But with Mantis,
- 2:39you can. It's one of those useless adjectives
- 2:42that you don't need there. Just Mantis would
- 2:44be fine, but I'm not in charge of naming stuff
- 2:46or the world would be far different. But I'm
- 2:48sure the person who named him praying Mantis
- 2:50would be so pissed at you right now. Oh, right
- 2:53now, yes. There is spinning in graves and places
- 2:57right now. He's cursing you. Mantis aliens, sometimes
- 3:01called praying mantis aliens, are tall insect
- 3:04-like extraterrestrials with triangular heads
- 3:06and insect -like eyes. They are often described
- 3:09as being peaceful and kind, though some people
- 3:12have reported negative interactions. People all
- 3:14over the globe have reported seeing mantis aliens.
- 3:28They don't move around that much. The nice thing
- 3:30about a praying mantis, which I should just call
- 3:33mantis throughout here, is that you kind of know
- 3:35where they stand because they don't move that
- 3:38much. Really? I don't think so. I don't think
- 3:40so. But I don't think they... Sorry, I haven't
- 3:42seen that many in person. I just don't think
- 3:45they move all that much, that fast. Sorry, I
- 3:48forgot to listen. They look exactly like the
- 3:51little bugs, right? Yeah, more or less. Interesting.
- 3:57Does that come up? Mantises are tall and slender
- 4:01with jointed limbs, triangle -shaped heads, large
- 4:03insect -like eyes, which I think Harry said,
- 4:05and some people have reported feeling calming
- 4:08from their presence and many people believe that
- 4:10they hold positions of power over other types
- 4:12of aliens, including the greys, which for the
- 4:15most part dominate the zeitgeist of UFOs, at
- 4:18least what people know about them. They stand
- 4:21upright, usually about eight to nine feet tall,
- 4:23and they may have a vaguely humanoid form, although
- 4:26they still retain insect -like characteristics.
- 4:29Their limbs often have extra joints, similar
- 4:31to praying mantises, and their hands and feet
- 4:34may be three pronged. The bodies of the mantis
- 4:36alien are sometimes green, they're more often
- 4:38brown or black, and they can also be white. egg
- 4:40shell, silver or gold. Some people describe them
- 4:43as having an oily sheen over their bodies. Some
- 4:45people describe the mantis alien as having a
- 4:48hard shell like exoskeleton while others say
- 4:50they're more fleshy and especially at the joints.
- 4:53Now mantis aliens seem to demonstrate a position
- 4:55of authority over other types of aliens when
- 4:57people interact with them, including the gray
- 4:59aliens that people commonly picture when they
- 5:02think of extraterrestrials. Most witnesses state
- 5:04that the mantis aliens communicate with them
- 5:06by transmitting thoughts. However, some people
- 5:08report that mantis aliens have spoken to them
- 5:10using traditional language, many people say that
- 5:12the mantis aliens transmit a calming sense of
- 5:15peace. But when they communicate with each other,
- 5:18they typically use a language made up of clicks,
- 5:20whistles, and trills. A number of witnesses have
- 5:23claimed that mantis aliens showed them holographic
- 5:25images of Earth being destroyed, and that might
- 5:27indicate that the mantis aliens are trying to
- 5:29intervene to stop humanity from destroying our
- 5:32planet, which is what a lot of people perceive
- 5:34about them. Often, people awake to find the mantis
- 5:37aliens standing over their beds. In these cases,
- 5:40the mantis aliens may interact with the witnesses,
- 5:42either communicating with them or drawing information,
- 5:45like memories and other experiences, from them
- 5:47telepathically. They have been reported all around
- 5:49the world, including the US, UK, Brazil, and
- 5:52Canada. And there are some what people perceive
- 5:54as unintentional encounters, where one theory
- 5:56states that this happens when the Mantis alien
- 5:59accidentally drops their ability to cloak their
- 6:00appearance. In these encounters, the Mantis aliens
- 6:02often do not interact with witnesses or may only
- 6:05interact briefly before disappearing. Alien abductions
- 6:09are most commonly associated with greys. However,
- 6:12some people report seeing Mantis aliens in conjunction
- 6:15with grey aliens and in these cases the Mantis
- 6:18usually appears to have a position of power over
- 6:20like they're telling the greys what to do. And
- 6:23they're often associated with ancient myths in
- 6:25parts of the world, including creation stories.
- 6:28And some of the most prevalent ones include from
- 6:30Africa, where some African cultures revere a
- 6:33mantis god named Kagan as the creator of the
- 6:36universe. And Egyptian, the Book of the Dead,
- 6:39souls are guided to the underworld by a mantis
- 6:41-headed deity named Abbot. In 2017, an ancient
- 6:44petroglyph was uncovered in Iran that seems to
- 6:46show a mantis -like creature. The picture of
- 6:48a squatting mantis man may be an indication that
- 6:51mantis -like creatures were an important part
- 6:53of the prehistoric mythology of the area. The
- 6:55next part of this came from, I don't understand
- 6:58the source, it's called the Council. And it gives
- 7:00a little description of what the Council is.
- 7:02The Council adjudicates reports of unidentified
- 7:04aerial phenomenon. We are not affiliated with
- 7:06any government, agency, or denominational institution.
- 7:10We are independent, structured, and cited. And
- 7:12the 2026 disclosure environment is the most consequential
- 7:15window in the modern history of the question.
- 7:17The Council exists to make a record of it that
- 7:19can be cited, revised, and trusted. That's what
- 7:22they say about themselves and they have a bit
- 7:23of a description about the mantids as well that
- 7:25adds to kind of that overall idea of it. That's
- 8:08kind of the first point that you can look at
- 8:12where somebody's actually written down insect
- 8:14-like beings. Okay, interesting. And then Carla
- 8:18Turner in Into the Fringe in 1992 and then Taken
- 8:21in 1994 documents abduction counts that include
- 8:25explicitly insect form entities. In Taken, the
- 8:28first insectoid beings appear as supervisors,
- 8:31towering mantis -like figures who oversee the
- 8:33smaller grays during abduction procedures. They're
- 8:36ascribed as six to eight feet tall, with elongated
- 8:38heads, large dark eyes, and thin jointed limbs
- 8:40that fold in front of their bodies like a praying
- 8:42mantis. Their presence changes the entire app.
- 8:45of the encounter, the greys become more cautious,
- 8:47more deliberate, as if deferring to higher authority.
- 8:51These beings communicated telepathically, their
- 8:53voice calm and clinical, lacking any human emotion.
- 8:56abductees reported that the insectoid seemed
- 8:59to study them deeply, not just physically, but
- 9:01mentally, as though examining their thoughts
- 9:03and memories. The insectoids rarely touch the
- 9:05abductees. Instead, it supervises, directs, observes,
- 9:08giving the impression of an ancient intelligence
- 9:10operating within a strict hierarchy. So it's
- 9:13right from like that early 90s. You already see
- 9:15this like very distinct pattern of what this
- 9:18being is emerge. I find that so strange. David
- 9:21Jacobs around the same time in Secret Life, which
- 9:23was written in 1992 and His subsequent work includes
- 9:26the mantid as one of three principal taxonomical
- 9:29categories and his elicited abduction hierarchy.
- 9:32He breaks it down to basically there's three
- 9:33beings, greys, reptilians, and insectoids. Because
- 9:37is there not way more than that? Oh, it's just
- 9:40this guy. Well, and this is in 92. Oh, OK. Whereas
- 9:43now, yeah, I think David Wilcock was talking
- 9:45about like 36 different species or something
- 9:47like that. Now, Jacobs repeatedly describes insectoids
- 9:51as tall insect -like beings who appear to be
- 9:53in charge of the abduction procedures, directing
- 9:55the smaller beings and overseeing the hybrid
- 9:57program. Jacobs is the first one to really emphasize
- 10:00that there was a hierarchy and insectoids were
- 10:02kind of above it all. It emphasizes that the
- 10:06abductees consistently report beings as authoritative,
- 10:08emotionally detached, and the ultimate decision
- 10:10-makers. I don't know if this is the place to
- 10:12say it. I don't know that we're in a place to
- 10:15be able to be making these observations of any
- 10:18sort of hierarchy. Well, I think like what they
- 10:22mean is like the grays are actually doing things
- 10:25and they just seem to be standing. It's just
- 10:27an observation. This guy seems to be. No, and
- 10:29that's like if we're putting like the human brain
- 10:32onto the situation you're seeing, you're like,
- 10:34oh, yes, this one's in charge. Yeah. OK. OK.
- 10:36That's fair enough. You can make that observation.
- 10:39After that, Johnny Mack wrote Abduction in 1994
- 10:42and Passports to the Cosmos in 1999, and he documents
- 10:45Manted Encounters in his clinical research interviews
- 10:48noting the consistent supervisory framing. Mack
- 10:50documented non -human entities with varied forms,
- 10:53including insect -like beings. Mack's abduction
- 10:55research notes that experiencers consistently
- 10:58report non -human entities that vary in description
- 11:00with recurring features such as large eyes, small
- 11:02bodies, and an intelligence. Mack emphasized
- 11:05cross -cultural consistencies in his writings.
- 11:07He studied roughly roughly 200 cases and found
- 11:10striking cross -cultural consistencies and abduction
- 11:13phenomena, including the presence of non -human
- 11:15beings performing examinations and communicating
- 11:17telepathically. This consistency is part of what
- 11:20legitimized insectoid reports in academic discussions.
- 11:23Mack frames entity encounters as a consciousness
- 11:26-based, transformative, and ecological. A passage
- 11:29from Abduction describes an experiencer's encounter
- 11:33with a divine light of energy and notes that
- 11:35many abductees develop acute ecological consciousness.
- 11:38This is central to Mack's interpretation. Insectoids
- 11:41or mantis -like beings often appear in these
- 11:44ecological spiritual contexts rather than hierarchical
- 11:47ones. And Mack advances the discussion by legitimizing
- 11:50experiencers and rejecting pathology. abductees
- 11:54were generally psychologically healthy and that
- 11:56their experiences were genuine phenomena, requiring
- 11:58new frameworks. This academic validation helped
- 12:01bring insectoid entity reports into serious discourse
- 12:04rather than fringe anecdote. And he positioned
- 12:07entity encounters, including insectoids, as real
- 12:09experiences, not hallucinations. And he compares
- 12:12these abductions to DMT entities and notes that
- 12:14both involve non -human intelligence and examination.
- 12:17And that is going to be something that we get
- 12:18into in a little bit here. But his willingness
- 12:20to treat these beings as phenomenal So that's
- 12:27kind of like the pathway you can see insectoids
- 12:30growing through the books, but It actually spreads
- 12:34principally through mid -90s online forums. It's
- 12:38where it gets the most traction and kind of where
- 12:40the phenomenon as we kind of know it comes from.
- 12:43Do you recall off the top of your head when it
- 12:46was the Greys? It was before this, was it not?
- 12:50Yeah, yeah, it's about 20 years before this.
- 12:51Okay. Because Betty and Barney Hill are in the
- 12:5360s and they do specifically describe Greys.
- 12:56It starts with them. Yeah, I remember that from
- 12:59the episode. Okay, sorry. from the forums. Television
- 13:03and film start to pick up on the idea of a mantis
- 13:06alien being and it appears in the episode Patient
- 13:09X of The X -Files in 1998. Other various lesser
- 13:13productions and contemporary streaming platform
- 13:15UFO documentaries have used insect form alien
- 13:18imagery reinforcing this visual template. And
- 13:21the mantid is notably less culturally saturated
- 13:23than the grays or the reptilians. It remains
- 13:25primarily a feature of the dedicated abduction
- 13:28literature rather than a mainstream popular icon.
- 13:31So apparently Edgar Mitchell, who we did an episode
- 13:34on years ago, he did actually do quite a bit
- 13:37of research into alien abductions. And he found
- 13:40that from a study of 708 people who had contact
- 13:43with non -human entities, 13 % reported interacting
- 13:47with mantis type beings, which is not insignificant.
- 13:51Whereas it's more like when you're talking grays,
- 13:53it's only about 45%. What would the other ones
- 13:56be? reptilian you know what there's short grays
- 13:59tall grays so that's 78 percent right there those
- 14:02combined and then other type is 30 percent hybrid
- 14:06of something 20 percent and then insectoids or
- 14:09mantids 13 percent and reptilians are at 13 percent
- 14:12as well ah okay this is where i thought this
- 14:16got interesting, Chelsea. They show up somewhere
- 14:21else and it's super crazy. If alien abductees
- 14:33are to be believed, there's a race of insectoid
- 14:35beings abducting humans. Naturally, such cliched
- 14:38reports of close encounters tend to be written
- 14:40off as hallucinatory nonsense despite the fact
- 14:42that those making the claims often insist on
- 14:43their authenticity. According to a new study
- 14:46in the Journal of Psychopharmacology, these odd
- 14:50confrontations with otherworldly creatures may
- 14:53have a rational explanation after all, thanks
- 14:55to a psychedelic compound called N -dimethyltryptamine,
- 14:58or DMT. Intriguingly, similar meetings with strange
- 15:02entities are often reported by people who smoke
- 15:04DMT, with certain archetypal creatures appearing
- 15:07with striking regularity. This phenomenon was
- 15:10first pointed out by the famed psychedelic explorer
- 15:12Terrence McKenna, who wrote about his encounters
- 15:14with the, quote, the machine elves, end quote,
- 15:17during his DMT trips. Since then, numerous other
- 15:20people have claimed to have met these very same
- 15:23beings after taking the drug, while other common
- 15:25DMT entities recorded in the academic literature
- 15:28include praying mantis alien brain surgeons.
- 15:32To learn more about these strange apparitions,
- 15:34the study author conducted an online survey of
- 15:372 ,561 people who claimed to have encountered
- 15:40an entity while on DMT. Of these, 95 % said that
- 15:44they believe these entities to be conscious and
- 15:46intelligent, while three -quarters remain convinced
- 15:48that these beings really existed even after the
- 15:51effects of the drugs had worn off. As a consequence,
- 15:5480 % said that this experience fundamentally
- 15:56altered their perception of reality. Digging
- 15:58deeper. The researchers learned that most people
- 16:01were able to communicate telepathically with
- 16:03these entities and predominantly experienced
- 16:05positive emotions such as joy and love. end quote,
- 16:24writes the authors. After collating these trip
- 16:27reports, the team then examined other studies
- 16:29involving non -DMT users who claimed to have
- 16:32been abducted by aliens or had a spiritual encounter.
- 16:34Their analysis revealed that quote, For instance,
- 16:49two -thirds of respondents reported receiving
- 16:52some sort of message or prediction about the
- 16:54future, something which is also commonly reported
- 16:57by alien abductees or people who claim to have
- 17:00had a religious experience. The nature of these
- 17:02messages vary greatly, with one person being
- 17:04informed by a DMT entity that they were going
- 17:06to die on June 27th, 2067. Others, meanwhile,
- 17:10converse with DMT entities about more prosaic
- 17:12matters, including one respondent who described
- 17:14an encounter with a mystical being who, quote,
- 17:16was teaching me the rules and regulations of
- 17:18the NFL, end quote. Did not die on that exact
- 17:21day because it's being relayed 2067. Oh, I guess
- 17:26I missed that part. Yeah Entity encounter experiences
- 17:39in the absence of D &T or other psychedelics
- 17:41have been described in various contexts including
- 17:43those reported as God encounter experiences,
- 17:45religious prophecy, alien abduction experiences,
- 17:48near -death experiences, UFO experiences which
- 17:50include non -human entity encounters, and a range
- 17:52of other historical and cultural contexts. up
- 17:59a whole lot more throughout history these mantis
- 18:04beings then if they're linked with something
- 18:06like this that's a fair point but is the alien
- 18:09portion i'm taking it as that is not linked with
- 18:14the dmt kind of brain stuff only since the sorry
- 18:1880s or 90s oh my god i'm so bad at recall but
- 18:22you would think that it would come up more if
- 18:24it's because people have been doing this type
- 18:26of stuff for a long time Yeah, like I said, it
- 18:30does show up religiously, millennia ago, in Egypt
- 18:34and Africa. So it's not like this is just a new
- 18:36phenomenon, or at least you can somewhat compare
- 18:39it to that, but it is weird that it doesn't pop
- 18:42up again until the 90s. Yeah, that's the weird
- 18:45thing about it. Let's keep taking it in, maybe
- 18:49I'll stew on it for a bit. In the present survey
- 18:52and consistent with prior descriptions of DMT
- 18:54-associated entity encounters, respondents commonly
- 18:57endorse nonspecific terms to describe these entities,
- 19:00such as being, guide, spirit, alien or helper.
- 19:03with a wide variety of more specific terms, animal
- 19:06spirit, clown, demon, gnome, monster being endorsed
- 19:09at lower rates, somewhere around 10%. These descriptions
- 19:13are somewhat similar to those in non -drug alien
- 19:16encounters and abduction literature which most
- 19:18commonly describe humanoid entities but also
- 19:21insectoid, reptilian, spirit, ghost, and animal
- 19:24type entities. Other similarities between the
- 19:27present survey and surveys of non -drug alien
- 19:29experiences include that communication was most
- 19:31often telepathic or and most respondents considered
- 19:35these experiences to be positive reporting increases
- 19:37in appreciation for life, self -worth, compassion
- 19:40for others, and a decreased fear of death. Differences
- 19:42between the DMT entities' encounter surveys and
- 19:45non -drug alien encounter experiences include
- 19:48that the latter entities are most commonly described
- 19:50as grays. And that is funny, where mantis encounters
- 19:53happen under DMT, but grays do not. Nobody describes
- 19:57grays under DMT. That's super bizarre. And I
- 20:01did know that they come up in both situations,
- 20:04but I actually, I don't know, never thought together
- 20:06for this. Yeah. This is actually where I'm going
- 20:09to end this episode. And the next episode is
- 20:12just going to be encounters. OK. It is going
- 20:14to be a longer one, unfortunately. I just thought
- 20:16this was the best way to break it up. Yeah. But
- 20:18that just kind of gives you an idea of like there's
- 20:20two distinct parts of the Mantis phenomenon that
- 20:23are kind of distinctly different. But there's
- 20:26so many similarities between the two. It's just
- 20:27kind of crazy. and that's so crazy too that they
- 20:30come up together and that I know is something
- 20:33that's on our list is DMT and entities that you
- 20:38see while you're under the influence of a substance
- 20:40there's a lot of them and I don't know offhand
- 20:44if there's anything else that kind of crosses
- 20:46that boundary as well any other entities I don't
- 20:50know if you happen to know I do know reptilians
- 20:53are both but i limited this to the mantids yeah
- 20:57no i was just curious if there are any other
- 20:59entities that would cross as something that you
- 21:02see under the influence and then real yeah no
- 21:05i can't confirm like reptilian did keep coming
- 21:07up with that i didn't look into it because i
- 21:10did keep it this i've heard more mantid beings
- 21:13that being said i don't hear a whole lot about
- 21:15them i hear more mantid beings like with associated
- 21:19with DMT and stuff like that. But that's so interesting
- 21:22that it's one of those creatures that crosses
- 21:25that barrier, I guess, and I don't know what
- 21:28to make of it. Yeah, and I think you're going
- 21:31to be just as flabbergasted once we go through
- 21:33some of the sightings because they vary so much
- 21:36just because you're looking at two different
- 21:38kinds of things. And like we even said earlier,
- 21:41sometimes it just kind of appears out of nowhere
- 21:43standing in front of you, and it's not even like
- 21:45an abduction situation. would hate that and it's
- 21:49ah Okay, and that be kind of under... I don't
- 21:54know how I'm connecting the two, actually. There's
- 21:56a lot of things that I'm just trying to grasp
- 21:58at. It just seems like it's right on the tip
- 22:01of my brain. Like, what are you doing? But I'm
- 22:04not quite getting there. And are we gonna see
- 22:07in the experiences, do they kind of... How they're
- 22:10interacting and acting in both situations? Like
- 22:14abduction scenario and DMT scenario? You're gonna
- 22:17see a lot of different stuff going on. in these
- 22:19rooms, Chelsea. I'm excited to get into this.
- 22:21I'm very excited, too. Let's end it so we can
- 22:23just start talking about it. I have been Taylor,
