- 0:12Hello and welcome to Nick and Kristen in the podcast.
- 0:14I'm Nick, that's Kristen and welcome to the podcast.
- 0:19So we we used to be a morning radio team.
- 0:22We're married, we have a daughter that's seven.
- 0:24And now we're going to talk about just things that are going
- 0:27on in our life so people can keep up with us after being let
- 0:31go from our job and follow along our journey as we find somewhere
- 0:37else to do stuff. Wow, that was eloquently said.
- 0:40Yeah. Yeah, I'm a poet.
- 0:42Oh. Boy.
- 0:44So the first thing we want to talk about is the most
- 0:47fascinating thing you can possibly talk about, which may
- 0:49be the reason why we no longer have a job.
- 0:52There's this big box that came with this tiny thing.
- 0:54In it I know so I, I know everybody has a story about
- 0:58this. I know it's so compelling,
- 0:59right, but whatever it's visual. So I got this box from Amazon.
- 1:03I ordered something and I was like, that seems like an awfully
- 1:05large box for the thing that I ordered and I could shake it and
- 1:08it like didn't shake and so I was like, well, OK, this is very
- 1:11interesting. Opened it up.
- 1:14I, I peered inside. Where is the?
- 1:18Oh there it is. And I just want to show just for
- 1:23scale. Jesus Christ.
- 1:25Like, what are we doing? Amazon?
- 1:28Yeah, what are we doing here? I'm not sure how the process
- 1:31works. I know it's like a line and then
- 1:33like things come down, you throw in.
- 1:34Boxes, but like you, you put this in one of the book sleeves.
- 1:39Like 1 of. The bags.
- 1:40Or yeah, exactly. Like why did this facilitate the
- 1:43entire box? Is it breakable?
- 1:45No. No, I mean, I guess, I mean, I
- 1:47suppose a little bit, but. Is it like, it's not bendy, it's
- 1:50not closed, so maybe there's a rule and that's the smallest.
- 1:53Box technically considered a tech item and so I wonder if
- 1:56that's what gave it a box. But it's just lazy.
- 1:58It's it's it hurts my eco friendly heart.
- 2:02Yeah, well, make sure you recyclable.
- 2:03I know I. Will recyclable.
- 2:04But it's just like, I mean, sorry for all the people
- 2:07listening on like Spotify. Or whatever.
- 2:08It's a tiny, tiny box. Inside of it's a.
- 2:10Very, very tiny box, but it just irritated me and I thought it
- 2:13was kind of funny visual, so there you.
- 2:15Go. We all have that story where we
- 2:17get like, it was like this giant box.
- 2:19Yeah, you're like, I didn't order.
- 2:21Anything. And it was like all stuffed with
- 2:22paper and stuff like that. Like it couldn't possibly move.
- 2:25I'm like, it's all good guys. It's gonna be OK.
- 2:27If you work at Amazon and you know how the rules are, I'd love
- 2:30to hear it. I'd love.
- 2:31To get the insight. I'd love to hear that as well.
- 2:33Where? It's just like, Oh no, we have
- 2:34to put it in that box. There's rules.
- 2:35We can't put it in a bag because it's like fragile or it comes
- 2:37from the certain bin or something.
- 2:39Like that, it's even in a tinier item inside.
- 2:42Yeah, is there a tiny boxes? Hair enough?
- 2:44Yeah, it's like a pen pencil lead, right?
- 2:47Yeah, it's pencil lead for my mechanical pencil.
- 2:51So that's right. Get.
- 2:52Get a. Load of this, it's even hard to
- 2:56get out. So small.
- 3:02Oh my God, is that all that's in the?
- 3:04Box there's like 20 of them, yes.
- 3:06So this was in this. I mean, technically that's about
- 3:08the same proportion. Was in this.
- 3:11This is essentially you can't even, you can't even see it.
- 3:15There are definitely smaller things.
- 3:16They probably should have put that in well.
- 3:18Maybe somebody at Amazon's just having a a fun day, yeah.
- 3:22Maybe the more they. Well, they should put it in a
- 3:23big box. They should have give it you go
- 3:25to the furthest extreme at that point.
- 3:27Yeah, I know the giant like. ATV Box.
- 3:29All right, man, now what's happening?
- 3:31But I'm sure there should be God.
- 3:32I don't know. I don't know what the rules are.
- 3:34All right, if you know, explain. Please.
- 3:37I had an interesting experience today because I've been trying
- 3:39to get rid of all my books. We talked about this on the
- 3:41podcast. I'm sick of looking at all the
- 3:43clutter in my house, all these books that I was saving for like
- 3:4620 years to give to Lily. And then I was like, I don't
- 3:49want her reading this. And also, I don't know if she'd
- 3:51even like this. Pick out her own books.
- 3:54Yeah, I know there was a bunch of books under our spare bed
- 3:57that you want to hold on to because you like the books.
- 3:59Right. I did, yeah.
- 4:00So like I went through that today and I was like OK, we can
- 4:03get rid of a lot of these or whatever or they complete sets
- 4:05that I had from the bedroom. And then I started looking at
- 4:08the bookshelf and I realized that I had unlike 2 bookshelves,
- 4:12all of the notes and all of the papers that I had printed out
- 4:16from getting my masters. And I was like, why am I hanging
- 4:19on to that? And I knew that I wanted to hang
- 4:22on to it because it's like one day I might need something and
- 4:24I'm like, no, I just like Google it like everyone else.
- 4:27Like I'm not sitting there like thumbing through textbooks.
- 4:30So year two I studied Gottman and so I've got to flap through
- 4:34and then under the notes I stated what what was really
- 4:37going on. OK, I get.
- 4:38It it's like I'm not even remotely interested in what any
- 4:42of those things are nowadays. And so it's like I just tossed
- 4:45them all. And it felt really weird
- 4:47because, first of all, well, these were very expensive notes.
- 4:50Very expensive because. Because of how much of matches.
- 4:53Degree cost. And so like, that's all the
- 4:55knowledge that I got from it. I just was like, there you go,
- 4:58trash can. And then you were like, you
- 5:00should try to sell them. I'm like for.
- 5:02What somebody might want to read your notes instead of having to
- 5:04read a textbook? I just no, nobody's going to buy
- 5:07my notes. And like all these papers that I
- 5:09printed out, I was like looking at them and I was like, huh,
- 5:11that's a good idea. Toss are you?
- 5:14Getting like refreshers and you're.
- 5:15Like, oh, because it's like, it's, it's one of those things
- 5:18where it's like, I this was a very long winded story, but
- 5:22there was a thing on the Internet where somebody was
- 5:24taking a picture of themselves in a doctor's waiting room.
- 5:27And they had like, their, the picture out of the the waiting
- 5:31room door. Like they're in the room waiting
- 5:33for the doctor. And the doctor's on the computer
- 5:35and he can see that the doctor Googled his symptoms.
- 5:39Yeah. And so he was like, oh, man,
- 5:40like you always hate it when a doctor Googles your symptoms.
- 5:44And a lot of people commented and they're like, at least the
- 5:46doctor knows what to Google. Like he went to medical school
- 5:50so that he can know what to Google.
- 5:52That's a good. Point you're the one going to
- 5:54WebMD and like making up crazy stuff like he's the one that's
- 5:57like, OK, this is what exactly what I need to know.
- 5:59Yes, he has signs of kind of herpospholates and we've got to
- 6:02remove the. Exactly, like, OK, you don't
- 6:04even know what that bone is called.
- 6:06He does, all right. And so like, yeah, he's not an
- 6:09encyclopedia. Like, and I, I felt that way
- 6:11about myself today 'cause it's like there's been plenty of
- 6:14times I've Googled something or I've used ChatGPT, but it's very
- 6:18specific. Like I have a 10 year old
- 6:20client. I don't by the way, this, I'm
- 6:22just making all this up. Like I have a 10 year old client
- 6:25who's suffering from anxiety and OCD symptoms of checking
- 6:28compulsions create an intervention for me.
- 6:31And it's like I don't have the time to read an entire textbook
- 6:35on OCD right now. I know my kid has OCD.
- 6:38Like I know I've done the assessment for it.
- 6:40Like I know what kind of compulsions he has now spit out
- 6:44an intervention I can do in the session.
- 6:45And. Then you can, as a professional,
- 6:47look over and see if it's legit. Yeah, then I can look and you
- 6:49can correct chat. GBT and go, Oh no, that's not
- 6:51what I wanted you to do like this, right?
- 6:53This is going to cause this instead of this, and then you
- 6:55have to type that back in. But I think we're all guilty of
- 6:57using ChatGPT for our jobs. Right.
- 7:00That's why I'm saying like, like, why am I hanging on to all
- 7:03of these notes? I want to keep the textbooks
- 7:04because they make me look smart. They do.
- 7:06You got to put on your. Shelf.
- 7:07They make me look people like, Oh my gosh, she's read so much
- 7:10about this particular topic. The longer the word the better.
- 7:12It's like, oh. Hypnotherapy.
- 7:14I'm like, Oh yeah, let me thumb through this 800 page book about
- 7:18this one specific thing. Look at all the things I
- 7:20highlighted. Yeah, so I clearly read it.
- 7:22It's hit highlighting. So it's highlighted.
- 7:25Oh my gosh. Highlighting.
- 7:27I was wondering. If you were, I was like, Holy
- 7:29cow, what are we? I like that word better.
- 7:31But anyways, I got rid of all of my notes.
- 7:33I got rid of all the things in my binder.
- 7:35I just chucked it. It was a very heavy bag.
- 7:38It felt pretty good to get rid of him if I'm being honest.
- 7:40Yeah, I've got to make a trip to the dump with all this stuff.
- 7:43So yeah, I've got, I've got a box in the garage.
- 7:46It's full of papers and magazines and things like that.
- 7:50And I'm like, and I, I know I have to go through it at some
- 7:52point. And now that I've reached the
- 7:53point where we're we're what my mom did to me with Lily, we
- 7:57keep. Everything.
- 7:59Well, I went through a lot of it today.
- 8:00Yeah, I kept the ones in the drawer.
- 8:02Yeah. I kept like 5 things from her
- 8:04kindergarten and a couple things from her first grade, and I was
- 8:07just chucking everything. I was just chucking it all.
- 8:10I kept a lot of the artwork because I just think it's cute.
- 8:13And a couple samples of the writing and, like, every time a
- 8:16teacher, like, did like, a little report card.
- 8:18Yeah. Or a little evaluation.
- 8:20I kept all that because that's cute.
- 8:21Yeah. So.
- 8:21Like little box when she gets. Older but her like math homework
- 8:25like I'm not keeping that. Yeah, good for you.
- 8:28Yeah, I understand that you're in math.
- 8:29You are in college now. You probably don't want to see
- 8:31your. Yeah, she doesn't want that.
- 8:33She wants to look back at the pictures and and to be like, Oh
- 8:35my gosh, I used to spell my name like this, you know, that's
- 8:37that. Little stuff, it's true.
- 8:39It's it's so hard to get rid of it.
- 8:40I didn't think it would be. It wasn't today.
- 8:42It wasn't today, Yeah. It's built up so much that now
- 8:45it's like, I don't know, throw it away.
- 8:46Well, and it's funny because I did it in front of her and
- 8:48normally she's like, no, no. And I said, Lily, we are, we are
- 8:52100% getting rid of 90% of this. And she was like, OK, yeah.
- 8:56And she never looks at it. So I just put everything in a
- 8:58pile and I was just like, I'm getting rid of everything.
- 9:00And she's like, oh, can I try my Thanksgiving Turkey hat on one
- 9:03last time? I was like do it because I'm
- 9:04checking. It that's good.
- 9:05She's getting good about it. She was like.
- 9:06Terrible. I was like, good.
- 9:07We're like eliminating the Nick family side hoarder tendencies.
- 9:12Yeah. So this is, well, the damage is
- 9:14where the hoarder comes from. So yeah, we're gonna keep her on
- 9:16damaged. She'll be fine.
- 9:17Yeah, but yeah, this is the summer of decluttering.
- 9:20Yeah, I'm getting rid of everything, man.
- 9:22Yeah. And as you were getting rid of
- 9:23your books, I'm thinking about the books that I have, but I've
- 9:25gone through a pretty good downsizing of my books.
- 9:28All mine are just Star Wars and I've got like 2 shelves, maybe 2
- 9:34little shelves of non Star Wars books.
- 9:35And I think there's maybe three books in there that I'll want to
- 9:37keep. Other than that are.
- 9:39You getting rid of your Star Wars books?
- 9:40I'm not getting rid of my. Why?
- 9:41Because why? Because you want it to look good
- 9:45on a shelf. No, I I've enjoyed the Star Wars
- 9:48series and so like I will, I've already started here and there
- 9:52rereading some of my. Favorites.
- 9:53And so, yeah, I've reread a. Couple of them all right, as
- 9:55long as you're rereading. Yeah, like I'll go back and I
- 9:57read so many so fast that I don't really remember a lot of
- 10:00it. So like at some point I'll go
- 10:02read through it and reread again.
- 10:03Because you're Mr. like, oh, it looks good on a shelf.
- 10:05And it's like we're past that point.
- 10:07I've I've gotten better about that.
- 10:09I got downsized a lot and like now the now the perspective has
- 10:14been given on life. I'm like, do I need 30
- 10:17lightsabers right? And so are you going to get rid
- 10:20of your lightsabers? I may start eliminating those at
- 10:23some point. The hard thing is that they were
- 10:25gifts and it's even harder for me to get rid of.
- 10:28Yeah, from you and I like you and, and I know that they were
- 10:31hard earned. So, but I, I think those will be
- 10:35the last things I get rid of, but I think I'm definitely
- 10:37reducing. Start selling your plasma first.
- 10:39Jeez Louise, I'm. Definitely going to start
- 10:41reducing and less things have become important now that I'm
- 10:46like OK I my money situation is less now.
- 10:51And so. It's giving me perspective.
- 10:53So if anything, this whole restarting of a career and
- 10:57beginning at 42 all over from scratch has just given me good
- 11:01perspective. So lovely, good lessons learned.
- 11:04Yes, exactly. So glad I'm learning this
- 11:06lesson. I'm.
- 11:07So happy that the universe decided to teach me to be
- 11:10humble. Because like, it's not like you
- 11:13had an ego before you. So I don't know how much more
- 11:15humble we could have. Gotten I didn't spend enough
- 11:17years poor that they they gave me like 5 years of like, hey,
- 11:21what else do you want? Take all that away again.
- 11:23So yeah. But yeah, it's fine.
- 11:25We'll be fine. It's fine.
- 11:26So by the way, Speaking of poor, thank you to our sponsor, our
- 11:32sponsor, the Clark County Trash Pandas where community you have

- 12:08All right, here he comes, the Clark County trash pandas.
- 12:13It's a good shirt. It's a good shirt.
- 12:15It's a good. Shirt.
- 12:16Personally dropped off by the owner I know of the Clark County
- 12:20trash pandas came to my house and everything.
- 12:22I will say he got you one. Oh cool.
- 12:24And it's blue. Oh.

- 12:30Fancy go take your shirt off Put.
- 12:31That on no, I'm not going come. On put it on, show me something.
- 12:34All right, I will. I didn't notice until I just put
- 12:38it on right now. But I know Brandon listens to
- 12:40this podcast. He's one of the five people that
- 12:41do and there is a dog fur or cat fur on this shirt.
- 12:47So are these used? No, they're not used, but I
- 12:50think they're at his house. It's a small operation that
- 12:52Brandon's got going on. He's just starting.
- 12:54And I noticed because I used to have a cat and there's fur and I
- 12:58I haven't had a fur on my shirt in a long time.
- 13:00So thanks, Brandon, thanks for reminding me.
- 13:04I'm a Buddy Gilligan. But don't forget to it looks
- 13:08big. That's cute, pretty big.
- 13:09It's a good color. But it's a good color.
- 13:11Yeah, Oh yeah. Take it off.
- 13:15So yeah, the Clark County Trash Band is show your support.
- 13:18They're gonna be a local basketball team here for the
- 13:21basketball league. And it's gonna be fun, family
- 13:24friendly, easy, cheap, and you can like go down and support
- 13:28your team. Be a trash panda.
- 13:29They're trying to name their dance team.
- 13:32So I've been trying to go dance team.
- 13:33Yeah, they're gonna have a dance like cheerleaders dance team or
- 13:35whatever. And so I'm trying, they're gonna
- 13:37like they're trying to name it. If you think of the Winter
- 13:40Hawks, they have the Rosebuds. And so it's like, so I've been
- 13:44trying to come up with a name for the little dance squad.
- 13:48My. Gosh, the trash pandas.
- 13:50Well, yeah, something Clark County.
- 13:53Yeah, maybe. Or like the trash brigade or the
- 13:57street sweepers. The sweepers, the sweeper
- 14:00street, I don't know. The tasty morsels.
- 14:03Pest control. That that the trash pandas
- 14:05always want. There you go.
- 14:06I don't know, that feels sexist. If you have an idea, drop it in
- 14:09the comments. I'll send it over to Brandon,
- 14:10say it was my. Idea you could like you could
- 14:12name, Yeah, this is your team. That's pretty.
- 14:13Cool to name the name if you're more creative than us and and
- 14:17you want to name a trash band team, Dance team, yeah.
- 14:22We might need to take a day off so you can pull it together Bud
- 14:24I. Don't think so.
- 14:25There's no day offs in free entertainment, but thank you for
- 14:29watching, thank you for supporting.
- 14:30Don't forget to like, subscribe, tell your friends and tell
- 14:33everybody just. Say.
- 14:34On the street. Say we're super funny people in
- 14:36the face and say hey, listen to Nick and.
- 14:37Christmas and we're super funny and like totally entertaining.
- 14:39Yeah, yeah. Thanks, guys.
- 14:40Bye.
