- 1:58Speaker 3: Sharon so sharing a bar soap.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Spencer, are you familiar with the quote you can't stand
- 2:09Speaker 1: in the same river twice?
- 2:11Speaker 3: No, you get it right? Yes? Okay, because who said that?
- 2:18Speaker 3: Just people?
- 2:18Speaker 5: The water is just always moving by.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I mean, I don't. I bet you it's not. It's
- 2:23Speaker 1: so widespread, I bet it's not. You'll probably find where
- 2:26Speaker 1: someone says that. Mark Twain said it, because that's what
- 2:28Speaker 1: happens with every good quote that no one knows who
- 2:30Speaker 1: said it. But you can't stand in the same river twice,
- 2:33Speaker 1: meaning the water is gone, right. I don't think you
- 2:41Speaker 1: can bathe with the same bar soap twice. You'll notice
- 2:46Speaker 1: if you watch one over time, it gradually shrinks. If
- 2:49Speaker 1: you took your.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Break, he did not, Really, that's the first. You're not
- 2:55Speaker 3: saying it, right, I don't know how to say it right.
- 2:57Speaker 3: That is right.
- 3:00Speaker 6: It's my best effort.
- 3:01Speaker 1: So if you took a bar salt and put.
- 3:04Speaker 3: It in your in your privates.
- 3:07Speaker 1: And then Yanni say, hey, I borrow your bar soap,
- 3:11Speaker 1: it's it's by the time it comes back to you.
- 3:14Speaker 1: It's not that part.
- 3:16Speaker 2: This seem not hypothetical.
- 3:17Speaker 5: Sometimes sometimes you grab a piece of soap and there
- 3:21Speaker 5: might be a couple of pubes stuck on there or something.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Though.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Yeah, but they're clean, Yeah, they're all washed off. This
- 3:29Speaker 1: is the second show we've ever done on a tour bus.
- 3:32Speaker 1: The first one we did was I don't want to
- 3:33Speaker 1: say it was a nicer tour bus. But do you
- 3:35Speaker 1: remember when I'm talking about Yiannie with Luke. Yeah, yeah,
- 3:38Speaker 1: we did a show on the tour bus. We're on
- 3:40Speaker 1: our tour bus. It's over now by the time you
- 3:42Speaker 1: get this, because the one we're going to release this episode.
- 3:44Speaker 1: But we're on a eight city tour going across starting
- 3:51Speaker 1: in uh on a live tour starting in Denver and
- 3:55Speaker 1: basically moving across a latitude more or less with some deviation,
- 4:00Speaker 1: moving in an eastward direction across roughly the same latitude,
- 4:04Speaker 1: ending at the coast and near you know, near coastal
- 4:07Speaker 1: in Philadelphia, and and we're doing this in a tour bus.
- 4:11Speaker 1: And uh, I had sleeping in my berth last night.
- 4:18Speaker 3: I had.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I woke up one time in the middle of the
- 4:20Speaker 1: nightmare that someone was shaking my tent.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Because the bus was shaking.
- 4:27Speaker 6: That's interesting. I didn't have that. But I was trying
- 4:30Speaker 6: to use the same techniques that sometimes I use when
- 4:33Speaker 6: I'm in a tent and the wind is blown like
- 4:36Speaker 6: crazy and it's kind of keeping you up, and you
- 4:38Speaker 6: sort of just have to accept that that's what the
- 4:40Speaker 6: night is going to be like and and just be like,
- 4:42Speaker 6: that's part of my sleep tonight. And sometimes I can
- 4:45Speaker 6: just accept it and then fall asleep. And I was
- 4:47Speaker 6: trying to tell myself that with the rocking that kept
- 4:49Speaker 6: waking me up in the.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Bump, but it never worked. Hard to sleeping tour bus
- 4:54Speaker 3: I had.
- 4:54Speaker 5: I had a bad experience.
- 4:57Speaker 6: Yeah, I'll leave it at that. U thought that like
- 5:00Speaker 6: half this podcast would be us discussing last night's sleep.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Already figured out how we're going to fix you tonight. Oh,
- 5:09Speaker 3: feel's going to wake up crying about two and you
- 5:11Speaker 3: can get up rocky right back to sleep. That's what
- 5:15Speaker 3: you're used to, man.
- 5:16Speaker 5: It's true.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yeah, Brett Brett reeves og go ahead, Spencer.
- 5:20Speaker 2: One of the best parts though about last night's sleep
- 5:22Speaker 2: was how dark he got. Oh, I couldn't see my
- 5:25Speaker 2: hand in front of my face.
- 5:26Speaker 3: I didn't wake up till ten because I was just
- 5:28Speaker 3: waiting for the sun to come up.
- 5:30Speaker 5: Well, if you notice that these bunks are set up
- 5:33Speaker 5: not how they're normally. There's supposed to be three bunks.
- 5:38Speaker 5: I don't have access to the light switch from the
- 5:41Speaker 5: top bunk, so there was a light on from Hannah's.
- 5:45Speaker 5: She could shut it off below, but I didn't have
- 5:49Speaker 5: access to that switch. So I had a light on
- 5:51Speaker 5: in my cabin the whole night. Yes, I'll show you
- 5:57Speaker 5: after this. He also fumbled his phone to the bunk
- 6:01Speaker 5: below that about halfway through the night. So there's a
- 6:07Speaker 5: switch on, go on down below, Yanni.
- 6:11Speaker 6: Your bottom that light I just turned on the bottom bunk.
- 6:15Speaker 5: Okay, there's a switch on top the top switch. Turn
- 6:19Speaker 5: that on and then go look at my Why didn't
- 6:20Speaker 5: you talk to your birth mate because I already.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Like a birthmate. Sounds like you're twins.
- 6:31Speaker 5: Because I already felt bad because I dropped a cell
- 6:34Speaker 5: phone and something else slid through that crack down the
- 6:38Speaker 5: bottom bunk.
- 6:40Speaker 6: All the one behind under your pillow.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Ch Chess emerged from his bunk at ten am. He
- 6:47Speaker 2: said he didn't sleep for a second.
- 6:50Speaker 5: I mean that that was exaggeration for sure, But I didn't.
- 6:56Speaker 5: I barely got any No one was quiet as.
- 6:59Speaker 7: My Yeah, that surprised me.
- 7:01Speaker 2: I do. I couldn't achieve a deep enough sleep to
- 7:05Speaker 2: like get to snoring. I don't think on this bus, Bret.
- 7:09Speaker 6: I was impressed, you don't hear any vehicles going by?
- 7:14Speaker 3: You?
- 7:15Speaker 6: Did you hear any vehicles go by? I mean, we
- 7:17Speaker 6: can't be driving above the speed limits. It must be
- 7:19Speaker 6: cars passing us all night. You don't hear them.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Joining day by Brent Raids, who did not sleep on
- 7:35Speaker 1: the bus last night. But he had thirty years in
- 7:37Speaker 1: law enforcement, and I asked him if he ever raided
- 7:39Speaker 1: a bus. Tich She said, yes, Yeah, we.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Were actually invited onto the bush. Tom T. Howell was
- 7:46Speaker 3: playing in a little town in Bradley County. So you
- 7:49Speaker 3: were joking about raiding the bus, Yeah, we were. We
- 7:51Speaker 3: probably looked if we looked very hard, we probably could
- 7:53Speaker 3: have found something. But turned it into it. Yeah, it
- 7:56Speaker 3: just it was I don't know where they would have
- 7:58Speaker 3: put it though, because it was beer. Her ice chest
- 8:01Speaker 3: full of beer from one end of that bus to
- 8:02Speaker 3: the other. I don't know where they slipped, if they
- 8:05Speaker 3: stood up or whatever, because it was just cases and
- 8:08Speaker 3: cases of beer.
- 8:09Speaker 2: If I had any illegal substance on this bus, do
- 8:12Speaker 2: you think you could find it?
- 8:13Speaker 3: Sure? Think so?
- 8:15Speaker 2: With what level of confidence.
- 8:17Speaker 3: The amount of level of pain that I inflicted on
- 8:21Speaker 3: you put a dog on?
- 8:23Speaker 1: Do you ever watch Tails from the Tour Bus? Yes,
- 8:26Speaker 1: I have seen that. So you know the dude that
- 8:28Speaker 1: made what's that the cartoon? The Texas Cartoon might judge. Yeah,
- 8:35Speaker 1: so he made a whole series about the outlaw country
- 8:38Speaker 1: era turtle soup. Yeah, he gets into how Johnny Paycheck
- 8:43Speaker 1: shot a man in an argument over turtle soup.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Yeah, he gets into.
- 8:46Speaker 1: How Whalen's bus drivers or Whalen's manager shot Whalen's bus
- 8:50Speaker 1: driver and argument over Hamburger's.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Yeah, it blew up a barn.
- 8:54Speaker 1: So in Tails from the Tour Bus, they taught there's
- 8:58Speaker 1: a guy talking about when Willie Nelson's tour boss they
- 9:00Speaker 1: put a drug dog on William Nelson's to her boss
- 9:03Speaker 1: and it's supposed to find the weed and sit down,
- 9:05Speaker 1: or talking about how that bought that dog just came
- 9:07Speaker 1: up with the steps and sat down.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I wouldn't doubt that at all, No, you get.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I mean, so talk about the guy who's bussy riding
- 9:18Speaker 1: because he wrote Harper Valley Pta, Who's gonna feed them hogs?
- 9:22Speaker 3: Yeah? Tom t Hall he wrote a lot of the Uh.
- 9:25Speaker 3: He was called the storyteller, and he wrote a lot
- 9:27Speaker 3: of songs that you know, for other people. But he
- 9:30Speaker 3: had a lot of a lot of good, good songs.
- 9:33Speaker 3: The Ballad of forty Dollars where it's him, he's He's
- 9:37Speaker 3: The song starts out, it's one of my favorites, but
- 9:39Speaker 3: he starts. Uh. Him and two other guys got hired
- 9:42Speaker 3: to dig a grave and moa the grass. And they're
- 9:47Speaker 3: talking about they're sitting down in the shade watching the funeral.
- 9:50Speaker 3: They see this big the big limousine pull up, and
- 9:53Speaker 3: they're talking about how cool that car is and how
- 9:56Speaker 3: pretty the lady is. You know, it said some girls
- 9:58Speaker 3: really do look black. He look good in black, and
- 10:01Speaker 3: talking about the wind or whatever. They talked about his truck.
- 10:06Speaker 3: They heard that his truck was already up for sale,
- 10:09Speaker 3: and the key the lynch fan of the whole thing
- 10:12Speaker 3: at the end of the song and says, yeah, the
- 10:13Speaker 3: bad thing is the guy with me forty bucks and
- 10:16Speaker 3: I did.
- 10:17Speaker 6: Oh he wrote that song. That's how I got to Memphis.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Yep, I like that song.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Oh he wrote that too.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Oh. Man, he wrote a bunch of them.
- 10:24Speaker 1: That's been covered a lot. Yeah, speaking, Oh, this is great.
- 10:27Speaker 1: This is a great thing.
- 10:28Speaker 6: Wow.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Shoot see, man, I'm tempted here because I got to talk.
- 10:31Speaker 1: There's a couple of things I want to say about music,
- 10:34Speaker 1: which is fitting for being on this bus, which is
- 10:36Speaker 1: normally full of musicians. But there's the thing I want
- 10:39Speaker 1: to say about getting buried. So I had a plan,
- 10:42Speaker 1: like I had it all figured out what I wanted
- 10:44Speaker 1: to do when I died with my body, and and
- 10:47Speaker 1: now I kind of been changing it around. When I
- 10:50Speaker 1: was back home in Michigan, I went looking for a
- 10:54Speaker 1: buddy of mine's. Man, it was a buddy mine got
- 10:57Speaker 1: killed in high school. A couple of guys got killed
- 11:00Speaker 1: in high school. He got killed in high school, and
- 11:02Speaker 1: I always remember he uh they when they lowered him
- 11:06Speaker 1: down in the grave. His dad climbed down in there.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Oh, climbed down in the hole. It was horrible.
- 11:17Speaker 1: And I went looking and didn't have a ton of
- 11:19Speaker 1: time because I was on the way to the airport
- 11:21Speaker 1: with my kids and I had them kind of scrunt. No,
- 11:24Speaker 1: that's a lie. I was on the way to the
- 11:25Speaker 1: airport my wife and went to right where I swear
- 11:30Speaker 1: that was, but I couldn't find his deal grave. Yeah,
- 11:34Speaker 1: and there's kind of two cemeteries by where I grew up,
- 11:37Speaker 1: and that got me kind of wondering about getting buried
- 11:39Speaker 1: where I grew up, and I was looking. You can
- 11:43Speaker 1: where I grew up, get you could go into the
- 11:44Speaker 1: Twin Lake Cemetery. It's only six hundred and fifty bucks. Really, Yeah,
- 11:49Speaker 1: I was looking there day. The weird part that I
- 11:51Speaker 1: noticed is if you want to get Doug out of
- 11:53Speaker 1: the Twin Lakes Cemetery, it's thirteen hundred bucks to move
- 11:57Speaker 1: you to get disinterred. Wow, struck me as weird. You
- 12:02Speaker 1: can get in there for cheaper, and you can get
- 12:04Speaker 1: out of there for real. I might secure me a lot.
- 12:07Speaker 3: We've got our own family cemetery. You do where I
- 12:10Speaker 3: grew up. What do you guys charge Reef Cemetery, it's
- 12:13Speaker 3: like three hundred bucks. Maybe I'll get a spot there.
- 12:16Speaker 3: You can. Well.
- 12:17Speaker 1: The problem I have with the Twin Lakes Cemetery is
- 12:19Speaker 1: at six point fifty for a resident, in eight hundred
- 12:23Speaker 1: for a non resident. But I'm gonna apply for resident.
- 12:27Speaker 1: You follow me. I haven't been born there.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Right you should? Yeah, you'll be grandfather Dan. Yeah.
- 12:34Speaker 2: How big is the Reef Cemetery?
- 12:37Speaker 3: It's probably half an acre? You guys, ever disinter anybody
- 12:42Speaker 3: out of there? No, so far, it buy's been pretty
- 12:44Speaker 3: well behaved. Just so far.
- 12:49Speaker 6: What year was the first reeves buried?
- 12:52Speaker 2: Oh?
- 12:52Speaker 3: That first? It's probably it had been before the war
- 12:57Speaker 3: between the state, before the Civil War, the war against
- 13:02Speaker 3: Northern Aggression, that one, that one, same one. My great
- 13:09Speaker 3: my grandmother would never call it the civil war. She said,
- 13:12Speaker 3: there wasn't nothing civil about that.
- 13:14Speaker 1: So did you have any Do you have any relatives
- 13:17Speaker 1: fight for the losing side there?
- 13:19Speaker 3: Yep? I did. One of them got killed in the
- 13:23Speaker 3: first battle at Shallow.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Really, this bus. The minute I got on this bus,
- 13:30Speaker 1: this tour bus, the first thing I said to that driver,
- 13:33Speaker 1: and you can check with him. His name's John, I said, man.
- 13:37Speaker 1: When we get to Pennsylvania. We need to make a
- 13:41Speaker 1: little detour. It won't even really add any time on
- 13:45Speaker 1: between Pittsburgh and Philly. It won't add any time on.
- 13:48Speaker 1: It'll add like fifteen minutes to do a sixty mile
- 13:52Speaker 1: little loop cut off and go through Gettysburg. Yeah, and
- 13:58Speaker 1: you go smack nuts through Gettysburg. But then it occurred
- 14:01Speaker 1: to me he only drives at night.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you don't have to bring some spotlight. You
- 14:06Speaker 3: got your coon light. I didn't bring any gear like that.
- 14:10Speaker 1: So I might now have to go up there and
- 14:11Speaker 1: talk back to tell John again the plans off. Speaking
- 14:15Speaker 1: of music, we have been too much, to the consternation
- 14:19Speaker 1: of listeners. We have been running ride On by Chris
- 14:23Speaker 1: Danny as the ultro music so much hated some people.
- 14:28Speaker 1: It's most people hate the ultro song. I liked it,
- 14:31Speaker 1: and the reason I used it is, uh, one time
- 14:38Speaker 1: we talked about something too long.
- 14:40Speaker 3: It's like a metaphor, right, we.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Talked about something too long, and someone said something like,
- 14:44Speaker 1: you beat that horse to death, And so Chris Danny's
- 14:47Speaker 1: Ride On is you know you're done? We done beat
- 14:51Speaker 1: this damn horse to death. It's time to ride on.
- 14:53Speaker 5: Oh, There's there's another the ac DC ride on. You
- 14:57Speaker 5: ever heard of that one?
- 14:58Speaker 3: No?
- 14:58Speaker 1: But I don't want to try to license from them,
- 15:00Speaker 1: gotcha because we licensed from Chris Denny.
- 15:02Speaker 3: It wasn't a bad price.
- 15:03Speaker 5: I don't know if it's the same same song. There's
- 15:06Speaker 5: another Lonely Evening no in another lonely town no one.
- 15:12Speaker 3: I don't think it's the same one.
- 15:13Speaker 6: Uh.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Our licenses just so happens. We would be doing this anyways,
- 15:17Speaker 1: but our license is expiring. We have to renew our
- 15:20Speaker 1: license on ride on, and so we're gonna make a
- 15:21Speaker 1: major transition. We're gonna do away with current ultro music
- 15:27Speaker 1: and only use music composed and written by audience members.
- 15:31Speaker 6: Mmm.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Because we had a lot of great submissions, great songs
- 15:35Speaker 1: from people.
- 15:35Speaker 3: You know.
- 15:35Speaker 1: We sometimes use Doug Durrence song. We're gonna use some
- 15:40Speaker 1: of Chester stuff. Krin's gonna call it chat sprats you
- 15:43Speaker 1: like that Chester like that? Uh So, if you got
- 15:48Speaker 1: music that you've written and composed and want us to
- 15:52Speaker 1: use it for our ultro music, all you got to
- 15:56Speaker 1: do is send it in where just Krin want this
- 15:57Speaker 1: to go to? Oh, send it into the meat Eater
- 16:01Speaker 1: podcast at Themeeater dot com subject line outro music. You
- 16:10Speaker 1: can sing about hunting fishing the podcast pole beans subject
- 16:13Speaker 1: we discussed in our episodes. Whatever strikes you create a fancy.
- 16:16Speaker 1: That's a message from Krin. So go ahead and send
- 16:19Speaker 1: an your music and do us a favorite two of
- 16:22Speaker 1: if you send it in uh, do his favor of
- 16:26Speaker 1: like sort of, you know, giving us a written permission
- 16:29Speaker 1: to use we can start showcasing your music, which we
- 16:33Speaker 1: do sometimes. An't you got one yet?
- 16:35Speaker 5: So I have a bunch of songs, but.
- 16:38Speaker 1: He wrote one last night, The Man with three lips.
- 16:40Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, the Man with three lips.
- 16:45Speaker 1: It's a sad song. Sounds like it's not creepy. Oh dude,
- 16:49Speaker 1: you want to hear a sad ass story? Man, this
- 16:51Speaker 1: is what happened last night. You know the term green
- 16:53Speaker 1: room where you hang out, right.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Did you ever raid one of those?
- 16:57Speaker 1: No, you never raided a green You find all you
- 17:02Speaker 1: find all kinds of shit in the green room. Now,
- 17:04Speaker 1: you'd probably find other people's stuff, not even from the
- 17:07Speaker 1: people who are currently in there.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Checked the catch cushion.
- 17:09Speaker 1: So I don't know.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Why Why did I tell you?
- 17:12Speaker 1: I want to tell you a real sad story. Oh
- 17:15Speaker 1: we were teasing Chester shoes, I wasn't. Yeah Chester had
- 17:20Speaker 1: on a pair of Rebox shoes, which is I don't
- 17:22Speaker 1: even know that company. Was still frown when I was
- 17:24Speaker 1: telling when I was a kid, I wanted, like I said,
- 17:28Speaker 1: designer shoes like Rebox or Nikes, And my wife said,
- 17:33Speaker 1: I get what you're saying, but you wouldn't like Nikes
- 17:35Speaker 1: and Rebox aren't designer shoes.
- 17:37Speaker 3: So when I told my world saddest.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Story about how I grew up thinking, it's not the
- 17:43Speaker 1: world saddest story, but sad to me, I grew up
- 17:47Speaker 1: thinking we were poor rather than than very well off
- 17:51Speaker 1: relative to a lot of our neighbors. Because I couldn't
- 17:56Speaker 1: have things like I had to wear kads had to
- 18:00Speaker 1: wear tough skins, rustlers.
- 18:04Speaker 3: I couldn't get like.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Uh, you know, some kids would come to school with
- 18:08Speaker 1: a single serving bag of Rito's.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Oh yeah, grapes. Great grapes was my well a dream
- 18:14Speaker 3: you wanted to have. Or kids would have that thing
- 18:17Speaker 3: where there's cheese on the end and crackers and you
- 18:19Speaker 3: keel it back. All this kind of stuff meant to
- 18:22Speaker 3: be Yeah, or they'd have like name brand pop. Yeah,
- 18:26Speaker 3: they did have an actual packing.
- 18:28Speaker 6: I thought kids were like we always asked for kids, fancy.
- 18:33Speaker 1: You want the Nikes and rebox and ship Oh like yeah,
- 18:37Speaker 1: anything like that. So I but it's just rather than
- 18:40Speaker 1: being poor, my parents just weren't dumb asses, so we
- 18:43Speaker 1: couldn't have that stuff.
- 18:44Speaker 3: And it killed me because I'd have to go.
- 18:46Speaker 1: With like a sandwich to my mom made and then
- 18:49Speaker 1: she put chips in a little baggy, and rather than
- 18:51Speaker 1: thinking that my mom loved me, I thought that my
- 18:52Speaker 1: mom hated it because I couldn't line up with the
- 18:56Speaker 1: other kids at lunch. And then one day we're at
- 18:59Speaker 1: mc sport Goods and they have these two pairs of
- 19:01Speaker 1: Nikes or a pair of Nikes, but it's not they're
- 19:05Speaker 1: not matched. One's got orange stripes and one's got red stripes.
- 19:10Speaker 1: There's like subtle cosmetic differences, but they're the same size
- 19:14Speaker 1: and they're like next to nothing.
- 19:16Speaker 3: So my mom buys me these nikes.
- 19:17Speaker 2: What do you think they cost?
- 19:19Speaker 3: I don't know, man, it's too long. I was in
- 19:21Speaker 3: fifth grade.
- 19:21Speaker 2: It just ballpark it like nine dollars.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Yeah, like something like that.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Okay, Like they would have had to have been competitive
- 19:29Speaker 1: with no name shoes, hush puppies and shit.
- 19:32Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Yeah, so I go down there and I was like,
- 19:36Speaker 1: no one's gonna notice that, you know what I mean?
- 19:38Speaker 3: And I was saying, man, I didn't even make it
- 19:39Speaker 3: to the door of the school.
- 19:42Speaker 6: Those shoes don't match.
- 19:46Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 19:47Speaker 5: And now but now that kind of stuff, I feel
- 19:50Speaker 5: like is probably in style.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Like if you gave those shoes my daughter,
- 19:54Speaker 1: she'd wear them. She'd be proud as hell, that you know.
- 19:56Speaker 1: But that prompt the Chester would be like, that's not
- 19:59Speaker 1: a sad story. And he told me a sad story
- 20:01Speaker 1: about being teased over a minor birth, the fact bad.
- 20:05Speaker 1: And then that night started writing a story of the
- 20:07Speaker 1: man with three lips.
- 20:09Speaker 5: I gotta tell the sory. Now.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I think you should Chester, because it's gonna
- 20:13Speaker 1: makes my story seem like a spoiled brac complaining.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Man, I want to know what what Brent wanted instead
- 20:18Speaker 2: of green grapes, Like you want right, but you had
- 20:22Speaker 2: purple grapes instead of grapes. Okay, what have you settled
- 20:25Speaker 2: for purple grapes?
- 20:26Speaker 3: No, I've never seen a purple grape green. This kid
- 20:31Speaker 3: was a doctor's son. He had a shiplocked bag full
- 20:34Speaker 3: of green grapes, and I asked us man him, grape
- 20:37Speaker 3: give me, but I would have given if I had
- 20:41Speaker 3: any kind of money, would about him. But I swore
- 20:44Speaker 3: if I ever have money. And my kids want to
- 20:47Speaker 3: have green grapes to go to school with, and they
- 20:49Speaker 3: don't even eat grapes, but there's some in my ies
- 20:51Speaker 3: ball really like.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Anything that I wanted to have when I was a kid.
- 20:57Speaker 1: If my kids act like they wanted, I'd be like, no.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I mean, they have a lot of stuff, but it
- 21:03Speaker 1: was up to.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Me, I'd torture them a lot more than their my torture. Yeah,
- 21:07Speaker 3: the green grapes man, that was going to remind my dad.
- 21:10Speaker 3: He said that he remembered being in school and sitting
- 21:13Speaker 3: there and he said that he brought his lunch in
- 21:16Speaker 3: a sack. The kids in town had brought, you know,
- 21:19Speaker 3: a lunch box. They'd opened their lunch box up and
- 21:22Speaker 3: they'd have sliced bread in there, like wonderbread and blowney
- 21:26Speaker 3: and cheese in there. He said, I'd open my sack
- 21:29Speaker 3: up and I'd have homemade sourdough bread and cured ham.
- 21:33Speaker 3: He said, I was sitting there by that kid that
- 21:35Speaker 3: was eating that wonderbread and blown and thinking, man, that
- 21:38Speaker 3: guy's got it made well. He actually you know he was,
- 21:42Speaker 3: he was winning that war.
- 21:45Speaker 5: Uh said, should I tell the sad story?
- 21:48Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah, the man? Yeah, just sing it Chester.
- 21:50Speaker 5: Oh once my feet stink.
- 21:54Speaker 3: That's fine. Spencer. Spencer's throwing over there, his arm around you.
- 22:01Speaker 6: Go ahead, and you got your arm around me.
- 22:04Speaker 5: We're just getting his arm.
- 22:09Speaker 6: So I don't want you to feel too sad.
- 22:11Speaker 5: When I was a kid, I went to a private
- 22:14Speaker 5: Catholic school right down the road. The tiny little thing,
- 22:17Speaker 5: yeah called Our Lady of Angels.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Well that sounds Catholic.
- 22:23Speaker 5: But it just it just goes to show you that
- 22:25Speaker 5: all the the story, after I get done with it,
- 22:27Speaker 5: you're gonna they're not all angels there at the school.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Really yeah, story about having.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Right.
- 22:36Speaker 5: Uh So, when I was a kid, all the way
- 22:41Speaker 5: up until like fifth grade, when i'd smile real big,
- 22:44Speaker 5: my lip would kind of curl over and it looked
- 22:48Speaker 5: like I had three lips. So I ended up not
- 22:52Speaker 5: ever smile.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I'm going to do a visual for the camera. This
- 22:55Speaker 1: is Chester's mouth upper lift. Here's his mouth, and this
- 23:01Speaker 1: is what you look like.
- 23:02Speaker 2: How's that look?
- 23:03Speaker 3: Phil fantastic?
- 23:06Speaker 5: I mean, I had I had some some bunks. I
- 23:09Speaker 5: kind of had some kind of had some buck teeth too,
- 23:14Speaker 5: you know, like three lips and some buck.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Yeah, said he before you did.
- 23:20Speaker 5: Yeah, so I would. I eventually, like once I knew,
- 23:23Speaker 5: I stopped smiling. I had kids picking on me and
- 23:28Speaker 5: calling me three lips, and I didn't really let things
- 23:31Speaker 5: bother me too much. But eventually that one kind of
- 23:35Speaker 5: I started to realize that, yeah, this isn't quite normal,
- 23:39Speaker 5: you know. So eventually we went to the doctor and
- 23:46Speaker 5: this guy was confident that he could make it better.
- 23:49Speaker 5: And we went there and he cut I kind of
- 23:52Speaker 5: had I don't know what they call that, but the
- 23:55Speaker 5: skin on your legs bridge goes down farther, and it
- 23:58Speaker 5: was down further than normal. He cut that off, and
- 24:02Speaker 5: it made it worse. So you could you could like
- 24:06Speaker 5: fours now. I know it just now. I had it
- 24:10Speaker 5: all the time, you know, so you know, and I
- 24:16Speaker 5: got super self conscious about it, and uh to the
- 24:20Speaker 5: point where I actually had plastic surgery on my upper
- 24:25Speaker 5: lip to get that excess skin removed. Yeah, you got
- 24:31Speaker 5: some old pictures of that old three lips. I gotta
- 24:33Speaker 5: I'm sure I do. I gotta ask my folks and not.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Having green grapes.
- 24:40Speaker 6: It's called a or a friend alum, three lips.
- 24:47Speaker 1: But the thing about all this like a lot of
- 24:49Speaker 1: talk about I'll saw a new friend of mine the
- 24:51Speaker 1: other day and she's talking about going in and uh
- 24:54Speaker 1: taking like uh you know, like putting a mask on
- 24:58Speaker 1: and your phones on and taking like naugenics and stuff
- 25:01Speaker 1: to try to like tap into your inner problems and stuff. Man,
- 25:04Speaker 1: I think if I did all that, I'd just be
- 25:06Speaker 1: thinking about them dridos and shit, sneakers and stuff. You know,
- 25:11Speaker 1: It's like it's not a big deal, but some stuff
- 25:13Speaker 1: sticks with you.
- 25:14Speaker 3: That's thirteen.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Go back to I don't know, I don't know why
- 25:18Speaker 1: I always think about that. Yeah, it was a weird deal.
- 25:20Speaker 6: You not the two dudes that died in high school?
- 25:24Speaker 3: No?
- 25:26Speaker 1: Or what time we I told you about the time
- 25:28Speaker 1: we went to that airplane wreck watching pulling bodies out
- 25:31Speaker 1: of that.
- 25:31Speaker 3: No, it would be uh either way. So here's the deal. Listen,
- 25:46Speaker 3: we're getting to the meat of the show here. Now.
- 25:49Speaker 3: We A long time ago? Is that right? That was crazy?
- 25:53Speaker 1: No, I'm serious, it's the meat of the show. A
- 25:56Speaker 1: long time ago, we uh had asked for your crazy
- 26:01Speaker 1: trail cam picks because we want to start doing a
- 26:05Speaker 1: crazy trail cam pick segment, which I'm committed to because
- 26:08Speaker 1: I'm a big fan of trail cameras. I like looking
- 26:10Speaker 1: at trail camera pictures.
- 26:11Speaker 6: Have we thrown around the idea of doing a crazy
- 26:14Speaker 6: trail camp pick calendar.
- 26:18Speaker 3: We did, or I thought of it, but we haven't
- 26:21Speaker 3: done it because we're doing old shitters right now. Yeah,
- 26:24Speaker 3: but that'd be a good idea, something to keep in mind.
- 26:26Speaker 3: It would.
- 26:27Speaker 1: So we had asked for and I just said, like,
- 26:29Speaker 1: send us your crazy trail camp pictures. We're gonna get
- 26:32Speaker 1: into our first crazy trail cam picture segment right now,
- 26:36Speaker 1: and it's gonna be about cats.
- 26:38Speaker 6: It's gonna be about cats. But the first picture is
- 26:40Speaker 6: a pig.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Well that this is a prelude because we didn't do
- 26:43Speaker 1: a good job of clarifying what we meant by crazy
- 26:46Speaker 1: trail cam pictures. Uh, there was an overwhelming response. Kren
- 26:52Speaker 1: can't even get through all the trail cam pictures. But
- 26:56Speaker 1: this is a note from Krin. I do want to
- 26:59Speaker 1: clarify the sophicity of our trail cam pick submission parameters
- 27:03Speaker 1: and ask you to check yourself and be thoughtful about
- 27:06Speaker 1: what's warranted. This isn't an excuse to send KRIN. I
- 27:12Speaker 1: don't want to use the word she used to send
- 27:15Speaker 1: Krinn pictures of fetishists out in the woods, or full
- 27:19Speaker 1: frontals of some guy taking a whiz onto a bush.
- 27:23Speaker 3: Oh.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I think she's mostly joking. But this is an important
- 27:28Speaker 1: thing because well, we pulled up one example. A guy
- 27:33Speaker 1: send in a picture of a wild pig and it
- 27:35Speaker 1: seems like the only thing that he's interested in is
- 27:38Speaker 1: that it has.
- 27:38Speaker 3: Its lipstick out five legged home.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's like he's like, hey, here's a trailcam
- 27:45Speaker 1: picture of a wild pig with an erection. So that's great,
- 27:51Speaker 1: But that's for the whole there's just a limited. There's limited.
- 27:56Speaker 1: There's limited. Now, if you send in a picture of
- 28:00Speaker 1: a deer with a greatly enlarged scroll them, that would
- 28:06Speaker 1: warrant discussion because it could be all sorts of problems,
- 28:10Speaker 1: and we would send that to a deer specialist. We'd
- 28:13Speaker 1: send it to a wildlife of a veterinarian who specializes
- 28:17Speaker 1: in wildlife, and they might come back with, oh, that's
- 28:20Speaker 1: a very common thing. Could be an engorged tick bite,
- 28:23Speaker 1: all manner of reproductive ailments, so that would be interesting.
- 28:27Speaker 1: But just the fact that this hog has his lipstick
- 28:30Speaker 1: out is.
- 28:32Speaker 6: But if you look closely, the hog also looks like
- 28:35Speaker 6: it has a unicorn horn or something.
- 28:38Speaker 3: That's that's ear. Oh, that's his ear. And how it
- 28:44Speaker 3: looks like he's been marked. See had notch out of
- 28:47Speaker 3: it right there.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Oh yeah, he's got is just split. Well that's the
- 28:53Speaker 1: thing guys will do too, because they'll you know, guys
- 28:56Speaker 1: will castrate them, catch them, castrate them and turn them
- 28:59Speaker 1: back out and not their ear with a certain way
- 29:01Speaker 1: that they'd like to notch them. So they know that
- 29:03Speaker 1: they're the ones that did it. As the guy put
- 29:05Speaker 1: to me, uh and Yannie, that takes their mind off
- 29:08Speaker 1: ass and puts it on grass.
- 29:11Speaker 6: They called it a bar bard.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Hog bard hall. Yeah, and we went out with them
- 29:15Speaker 1: and barred a hog.
- 29:18Speaker 6: Sketchy.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Yeah, but he ran right off. Yeah there was you
- 29:21Speaker 1: done that to me? I'm laid there.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Yeah, my brother's in laws you know where I grew up,
- 29:28Speaker 3: that was having hogs in the woods. Having a hog
- 29:31Speaker 3: claim was like a deer lease. I mean, you claimed
- 29:34Speaker 3: from this creek to some other place another natural barrier
- 29:41Speaker 3: or something, or somebody's property, and all the hogs a
- 29:45Speaker 3: run on that property.
- 29:46Speaker 8: There was They were hours even though it was public land.
- 29:50Speaker 8: It wasn't public law. It wasn't no huh. This was
- 29:53Speaker 8: down in the pilet's. Timber company owned all the It
- 29:56Speaker 8: was all owned by a timber company. But we would
- 29:58Speaker 8: have a claim in there from one piece of property
- 30:01Speaker 8: to another, and another family would have that as well.
- 30:04Speaker 6: It would be like document it somewhere.
- 30:06Speaker 3: In the courthouse. Okay, you told your friends, well that's
- 30:12Speaker 3: where it started, but it would be documented there and then.
- 30:14Speaker 3: But each family had their own mark. Had the which
- 30:17Speaker 3: is like a brand, you know, like ours. Was an
- 30:20Speaker 3: underbit on the left and then a crop on the
- 30:24Speaker 3: left and then a split on the right. So the
- 30:26Speaker 3: the underbit was the bottom side of that ear. Hog's
- 30:30Speaker 3: ear on the left side was lopped off and then
- 30:33Speaker 3: the end was cropped off so it was blunt and
- 30:35Speaker 3: then flat on the bottom and the other side. Would
- 30:38Speaker 3: he just you just take a pocket knife and split
- 30:41Speaker 3: it so that this is when you bar a hog. Yeah,
- 30:44Speaker 3: and that's when you cut the castrade. The hog. Well,
- 30:46Speaker 3: my brothers in laws, they were catching hogs like folks
- 30:49Speaker 3: did back in the day and cutting hogs and they
- 30:52Speaker 3: they caught they down there. They were squirrel hunting and
- 30:54Speaker 3: the dogs bade the spigger hog that had been been
- 30:57Speaker 3: trying to catch forever. And no, they're digging around in
- 31:01Speaker 3: their pockets and nobody can find a pocket, knye. But
- 31:06Speaker 3: my brother's father in law, his brother, I believe it
- 31:11Speaker 3: was his brother or his uncle had a Prince Albert
- 31:14Speaker 3: can in his pocket, had Prince Alberton back in a
- 31:17Speaker 3: ten can. So they he took that Prince Albert can
- 31:21Speaker 3: and broke it in half to have a sharp edge,
- 31:24Speaker 3: and that's what they cut that hog with. And said
- 31:27Speaker 3: when they turned in loose, he didn't he didn't hang
- 31:29Speaker 3: around either, but he said it was it was pretty wilds.
- 31:33Speaker 1: So what is the significance unless you're dating it? Who
- 31:36Speaker 1: cares what market's got? If you catch a hog and
- 31:38Speaker 1: it's barred, well, unless you know the date, what do
- 31:41Speaker 1: you care.
- 31:42Speaker 3: That's what like the that's what folks were feeding their
- 31:45Speaker 3: families with. That was property.
- 31:47Speaker 1: No, I understand, I understand that. But you're claiming the area, Yeah,
- 31:52Speaker 1: it was. Why do you need to have the area.
- 31:55Speaker 3: There was no fences. Okay, okay, let's.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Say I'm claiming this the area of this computer, right okay,
- 32:04Speaker 1: and and uh, this area of the computer's mine.
- 32:09Speaker 3: And you catch a pig on my thing. I catch
- 32:11Speaker 3: a pig on my area. Okay.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Now if it's got some other dude's mark, I don't care.
- 32:16Speaker 1: It's in my area.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Oh no, that's not the way it works.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Oh it does not work that.
- 32:19Speaker 3: Well, that's his hog. Oh people respect that, Yeah, Hatfield.
- 32:24Speaker 1: So you have to catch you have to catch your
- 32:27Speaker 1: hog in your area.
- 32:29Speaker 3: If somebody if if if I'm if you catch a
- 32:32Speaker 3: hog there and it's mine, you send me word. Hey,
- 32:34Speaker 3: we got this hog, come get it. You want to
- 32:37Speaker 3: turn him loose or you won't him. That's how it way.
- 32:39Speaker 3: It's all on the honor system, gotcha. And that's what
- 32:42Speaker 3: the hat feels with the coy's was that all started?
- 32:45Speaker 6: So where's the real value of having to claim for
- 32:49Speaker 6: the hogs on the on the chunk of land.
- 32:51Speaker 3: Well, the claim the hog claim was just for you know,
- 32:54Speaker 3: this is where we operate. This is where our hogs
- 32:56Speaker 3: are going to be. Your hogs can come through, but
- 32:59Speaker 3: this is this is our headquarters. This is the place
- 33:02Speaker 3: where we were gonna we're gonna catch them here. We're
- 33:05Speaker 3: gonna skin them, we're gonna render them here, whatever we're
- 33:07Speaker 3: gonna do with them. And then but this is our
- 33:10Speaker 3: our spot and we're going to turn them loose whatever.
- 33:13Speaker 3: That was just an area more or less that that
- 33:16Speaker 3: you did your operation. But there were no fences, yea,
- 33:19Speaker 3: So it was just free range.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Was there like not enough freezers then to just kill
- 33:24Speaker 2: the hogs on the spot and deal.
- 33:25Speaker 3: With them that way. There wasn't any freezers, no freezers. No,
- 33:29Speaker 3: you know what this is not in my lifetime. Now,
- 33:31Speaker 3: this is when my grandparents and.
- 33:35Speaker 1: You know, if you've ever heard, when when doctor Randall
- 33:38Speaker 1: did his dissertation when he's doing is like special PhD.
- 33:47Speaker 1: He got into the way that American hunting just really
- 33:53Speaker 1: changed with the freezer. Oh, it's really changed how everything
- 33:57Speaker 1: went down once you had a freezer, change the way
- 34:00Speaker 1: people talked about.
- 34:01Speaker 3: It, the idea of a full freezer, you know what
- 34:04Speaker 3: I mean. It was just not like that.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Man, you got a deer, you'd get a deer and
- 34:07Speaker 1: you consumed.
- 34:08Speaker 3: It, dried it, gave it away.
- 34:10Speaker 1: But like the whole thing, like filling the freezer obviously
- 34:12Speaker 1: without a freezer wasn't an issue.
- 34:14Speaker 3: Yeah, that's you know everybody. Every no, not everybody had
- 34:17Speaker 3: a freezer. Very few people did. But everybody had a
- 34:19Speaker 3: smokehouse and you know, smoke their own meat. That's why. Yeah,
- 34:25Speaker 3: there's a I mean they would last for years. You
- 34:27Speaker 3: could keep them for years. Yeah.
- 34:29Speaker 1: You go down in Virginia, man, and they sell those hams.
- 34:31Speaker 1: They're on the shelf. Yeah, next to like the canned beans. Yeah,
- 34:35Speaker 1: to damn salty. Yeah, they'd be there forever. So just salt.
- 34:39Speaker 5: So what does that that look like? I mean it's
- 34:41Speaker 5: literally a ham, super salted smoke. So there's a good
- 34:46Speaker 5: crust on the protective crust on the elk.
- 34:48Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, you got to purge it all that salt man. Yeah. Now,
- 34:51Speaker 3: you couldn't eat it. It would be it'd be bad.
- 34:53Speaker 3: And it's not salt like it's cure and salt. It's
- 34:56Speaker 3: a little different salt than what.
- 34:57Speaker 5: And by just putting it in.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I want to get back to our special camera
- 35:03Speaker 1: thing because we're we talk about cats first. I want
- 35:06Speaker 1: to talk about a couple things with trail cams, and
- 35:08Speaker 1: you guys can throw in far and Away. The number
- 35:12Speaker 1: one submission we got is cat questions, Far and Away? Cat,
- 35:17Speaker 1: Oh cat, is this a mountain line.
- 35:19Speaker 6: Oh you got it?
- 35:20Speaker 3: Is this a mountain lion? Is this a mountain line?
- 35:21Speaker 3: My body says it's a mountain line. Is this a
- 35:23Speaker 3: mountain line? This is a mountain line.
- 35:26Speaker 6: Yes, unless you're in Tennessee.
- 35:29Speaker 3: You need to just as a trail cam set up. Deal.
- 35:35Speaker 1: When you get a really good picture and you and
- 35:38Speaker 1: your body's all swear you got a mountain line in Illinois,
- 35:45Speaker 1: maybe you do as oar as that. So mountain lions
- 35:48Speaker 1: have shown an incredible ability. Mountain lions, panthers, catamounts, whatever
- 35:52Speaker 1: you want to call them, have shown an incredibility to
- 35:54Speaker 1: show up in weird places. They're going big mega jaunts.
- 35:57Speaker 1: You know, a mountain line will come out of the
- 35:59Speaker 1: Black Hills and get hit by car in Connecticut. So
- 36:01Speaker 1: at this point, now twenty years ago, if you said it,
- 36:05Speaker 1: you were crazy. About this point, it's accepted. These things
- 36:07Speaker 1: show up in weird spots. A couple of show up
- 36:09Speaker 1: in Wisconsin like they show up with weird spots. But
- 36:11Speaker 1: the first thing you need to do when you got
- 36:13Speaker 1: to when you're gonna when you get a picture in
- 36:15Speaker 1: your bodies and you are all arguing about what you
- 36:17Speaker 1: have on the camera, take a tape measure and go
- 36:23Speaker 1: over to wherever you think the thing was standing and
- 36:27Speaker 1: figure out some dimensions. Try to put your camera. If
- 36:33Speaker 1: you got to put a thing in there, stick a
- 36:35Speaker 1: thing in there, stick a branch, make something, Yeah, something
- 36:41Speaker 1: somewhere to use for scale. So if it's just looking
- 36:45Speaker 1: out over a field, bury some sticks so you can
- 36:49Speaker 1: start getting a sense of how big was it. We
- 36:54Speaker 1: get a lot of mountainlin pictures and I look at
- 36:56Speaker 1: them like, it's just a ditch cougar. That's that the
- 36:58Speaker 1: house cat. You got a house cat if you go guys,
- 37:01Speaker 1: go down and look at this one image. So this
- 37:06Speaker 1: is a very very typical note guy writes in debate
- 37:11Speaker 1: on whether this is the return of the infamous mountain
- 37:14Speaker 1: lion that came to Connecticut. Now that okay, that particular
- 37:18Speaker 1: there was one mountain line that got killed in Connecticut
- 37:21Speaker 1: and it so he's like, is this another mountain line
- 37:23Speaker 1: in Connecticut? Could be because we know that it's happened before.
- 37:26Speaker 1: He says, I think it's just a house cat. But
- 37:29Speaker 1: he's alone in that camp. Tell me I'm not crazy. Yep, Greenwich, Connecticut.
- 37:35Speaker 1: His cousin used to have hunting access. Makes you think
- 37:39Speaker 1: he did something bad and lost his hunting access. It
- 37:41Speaker 1: was a property once owned by the Rockefeller estate. Oh
- 37:44Speaker 1: it got sold.
- 37:45Speaker 3: He didn't do nothing bad.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Not too far from Milford where the one from South
- 37:50Speaker 1: Dakota was hit by a car. That same mountain line
- 37:54Speaker 1: was also spotted in Greenwich just days before he was
- 37:57Speaker 1: hit by the car. So it's possible. But I believe
- 37:59Speaker 1: it's a house cat. That's a house cat. I concur
- 38:04Speaker 1: that is a house cat. But here's the thing. Why
- 38:07Speaker 1: are you and your friends not out with a tape
- 38:11Speaker 1: measure between that log and those trees.
- 38:16Speaker 6: Well, just just taping the the the diameter of that log,
- 38:22Speaker 6: just measuring the height of that log from the ground
- 38:24Speaker 6: to the top of it would tell you that it's.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Not one that's an eight inch log and that's an
- 38:28Speaker 1: eight inch tall house cat.
- 38:29Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly. And listen, I don't people shouldn't be a shame. Yeah,
- 38:36Speaker 6: but I think people are when they're like, you know,
- 38:38Speaker 6: then that's why there's they They they're so adamant, you know,
- 38:41Speaker 6: once they say it once and they believe it. But
- 38:43Speaker 6: like when we when I went and interviewed all those
- 38:45Speaker 6: biologists in Washington that are dealing with all the mountain
- 38:49Speaker 6: lions and then talking to them about the calls that
- 38:51Speaker 6: they get. I mean they talk about just how and
- 38:54Speaker 6: then that they've seen it in like the right scenario
- 38:57Speaker 6: where just visual perception and tricks of the landscape that
- 39:02Speaker 6: like it's it's a house cap. But in that scene,
- 39:06Speaker 6: whatever it makes it is, whatever illusion is there, it
- 39:08Speaker 6: looks ten times bigger than it is and you're like, oh, yeah,
- 39:11Speaker 6: it's a lion, and then it's not, you know, And
- 39:14Speaker 6: I think it especially happens in these trail cams that
- 39:17Speaker 6: just like you lose deaf perception.
- 39:19Speaker 1: It's glowing white because it's at night.
- 39:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:22Speaker 1: Yeah, but even like the facial profile. Now, we got
- 39:25Speaker 1: a lot of submissions where there's just nothing to really
- 39:30Speaker 1: talk about because there is no thing for scale.
- 39:35Speaker 3: It was too blurry.
- 39:36Speaker 1: You're like, I have no idea what that is, and
- 39:39Speaker 1: I wouldn't trust anyone. There's not even enough there that
- 39:42Speaker 1: I would trust anyone to even have an opinion. It's
- 39:45Speaker 1: sort of like a photograph that just doesn't warrant any
- 39:50Speaker 1: kind of respectable opinion because the amount of detail is
- 39:53Speaker 1: so absent. You say, you might look at a picture
- 39:56Speaker 1: and be like, I can tell that there's something that seems,
- 39:59Speaker 1: you know, livesh off in the distance. So for a
- 40:04Speaker 1: lot of those, we couldn't really take it on. But
- 40:06Speaker 1: this one, and you have this up film. Yeah, okay,
- 40:11Speaker 1: so if you go and look, we'll post some of these.
- 40:15Speaker 1: You can go on YouTube and look and you'll see.
- 40:17Speaker 3: The cat we're talking about. That's ditch cougar. That's a
- 40:21Speaker 3: house cat.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Now here's one that's super interesting, super interesting. And I
- 40:28Speaker 1: gotta predicate this one by saying, you could always be
- 40:31Speaker 1: getting duped and someone could be sending you a not
- 40:34Speaker 1: legitimate photo. They could be sending you something they found
- 40:36Speaker 1: on the internet.
- 40:37Speaker 3: Whatever.
- 40:37Speaker 1: We saw some of those and threw them out, but
- 40:39Speaker 1: some of them you just kind of got to take
- 40:41Speaker 1: someone out their word. Well, might be writing back and
- 40:43Speaker 1: have a little bit of a dialogue with them. This
- 40:45Speaker 1: one's interesting.
- 40:48Speaker 7: Hey, everyone filled the engineer here, Steve and the crew
- 40:50Speaker 7: are still on tour. So the responsibility falls on my
- 40:53Speaker 7: shoulders to butt in here, like Ron Howard interested Development
- 40:56Speaker 7: to let you guys know that.
- 40:57Speaker 6: We got duped. That's right.
- 40:59Speaker 7: This picture that we're about to look at and discuss
- 41:01Speaker 7: is not from Baker County, Florida. But it's a melanistic
- 41:05Speaker 7: black leopard from South Africa that's been raising captivity. This
- 41:08Speaker 7: picture has been floating around the internet for years. The
- 41:11Speaker 7: leopard's name is Cole, which is very fitting because that's
- 41:13Speaker 7: exactly what the person who sent this picture in we'll
- 41:15Speaker 7: be receiving in their stocking this year from Santa Claus.
- 41:18Speaker 7: But in all seriousness, we could have cut this out,
- 41:21Speaker 7: but we thought, hey, let's let it in. The discussion
- 41:23Speaker 7: was fun. Let it be a cautionary tale for those
- 41:26Speaker 7: looking at trailcamp pictures on the internet, and that's us included.
- 41:30Speaker 7: So just keep in mind this is not from Florida.
- 41:33Speaker 7: It's the leopard from South Africa. But with that in mind,
- 41:36Speaker 7: back to the show.
- 41:38Speaker 1: If legit. This one is interesting because here he goes
- 41:44Speaker 1: real black panthers. This photo was taken at my honey
- 41:48Speaker 1: club in Baker County, Florida. My dad also had a
- 41:51Speaker 1: video of a mama panther in two cubs a couple
- 41:53Speaker 1: of years ago, but he deleted it before I could
- 41:55Speaker 1: get a video. He says, this is from my friends
- 42:00Speaker 1: hunting club and Ludawick. I don't tell that is Ludawiki, Georgia.
- 42:05Speaker 1: It's in the southeast part of the state. So there's
- 42:09Speaker 1: two of them, now, the.
- 42:10Speaker 3: Florida one man.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Everyone knows there's no such thing as a black panther.
- 42:19Speaker 3: Or do they the.
- 42:23Speaker 1: World is this?
- 42:26Speaker 6: Are you talking about the one that's the full frontal
- 42:27Speaker 6: of the one that's in the shade.
- 42:29Speaker 1: That full frontal cat is not a house cat. That
- 42:32Speaker 1: is not a ditch cougar, barn cat. That is a
- 42:36Speaker 1: crazy picture.
- 42:39Speaker 3: But aren't there like.
- 42:40Speaker 5: It's a black that's not a thing.
- 42:44Speaker 3: Not a thing. No, there aren't any melanistic ones. That's
- 42:48Speaker 3: my understanding. Now.
- 42:51Speaker 1: I've also heard that a black panther is a wet
- 42:54Speaker 1: mountain lion, a black panther is a wet panther, a
- 42:56Speaker 1: black panther is a muddy panther. I'd like to see
- 43:00Speaker 1: more of this guy right here.
- 43:03Speaker 6: Tell you what catches my eye is that rear uh
- 43:07Speaker 6: pat pad paw foot hell cat?
- 43:10Speaker 3: Like?
- 43:11Speaker 6: Well, and it looks small now they they are smaller
- 43:15Speaker 6: on a cat on the back feet than the front feet.
- 43:20Speaker 3: But yeah, I don't know, it's something.
- 43:23Speaker 6: Just looks a little odd.
- 43:25Speaker 1: But it's a black panther looks odd well, yeah, but
- 43:28Speaker 1: it's like a little it's a little it's a little shiny,
- 43:34Speaker 1: it's it's a.
- 43:35Speaker 6: Little famished, scrawny looking. That back foot just doesn't seem
- 43:42Speaker 6: quite right.
- 43:43Speaker 1: He holds out that it's an escape zoo animal, But
- 43:45Speaker 1: I don't know what the hell zoo animal.
- 43:46Speaker 3: That would be.
- 43:48Speaker 1: And he said he checked around, and he hasn't heard
- 43:50Speaker 1: of any escape black leopards. Because there are leopards. There's
- 43:56Speaker 1: a melanistic leopard. Is there a melanistic jaguar?
- 43:59Speaker 3: I don't know. That's what I was That's what I
- 44:01Speaker 3: was asking.
- 44:01Speaker 1: There was a melanistic leopard. So if someone brought a
- 44:05Speaker 1: melanistic leopard over from Africa and cut it loose in
- 44:08Speaker 1: floridaout explain everything.
- 44:09Speaker 3: But he hasn't caught wind to that. Well, is the
- 44:11Speaker 3: what about the grass? The natural grasses it took there?
- 44:13Speaker 3: Is that those native grasses? And man, that's something we
- 44:18Speaker 3: hadn't thought to show.
- 44:20Speaker 1: We should show that to uh, we should show that
- 44:22Speaker 1: to Yanni's wife.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I don't know.
- 44:26Speaker 6: She's gonna say, can you get me a closer picture.
- 44:28Speaker 1: The seed pod?
- 44:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:31Speaker 2: What I can't get over is own like seventy percent
- 44:33Speaker 2: of these pictures sent in or a picture of a picture,
- 44:37Speaker 2: Like they took their phone and they took a picture
- 44:39Speaker 2: of their computer screen, and so we've now lost like
- 44:42Speaker 2: forty percent of the quality through that process.
- 44:44Speaker 3: That's real common.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Just somebody. You can see the reflection of their house
- 44:47Speaker 1: from when they took the picture of the picture.
- 44:49Speaker 2: Right click the photo, save it, and email that to Krinn.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Don't don't take the photo of the photo. You've like
- 44:54Speaker 2: ruined what could be an amazing photo by doing that.
- 44:56Speaker 3: My brother sends me a trail camp fix all the time,
- 44:58Speaker 3: like that man, did you for all this? But no,
- 45:01Speaker 3: I took a picture with my phone. God, it's like
- 45:06Speaker 3: when in Flintstone cameras got a bird in there taking
- 45:09Speaker 3: it that.
- 45:11Speaker 1: This is a very compelling photograph. We should at least
- 45:14Speaker 1: send this guy a believer hat for real.
- 45:19Speaker 6: I feel like, yeah, again, we don't know what that
- 45:22Speaker 6: grass is, but it's extremely tall compared to that animal.
- 45:27Speaker 3: Uh.
- 45:28Speaker 6: I know there's tall grasses in that part of the country,
- 45:31Speaker 6: but uh.
- 45:31Speaker 3: It looks like goat weed. It looks like goat weed.
- 45:36Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not saying it is.
- 45:37Speaker 6: I'm just saying it would not surprised me whatsoever if
- 45:41Speaker 6: if it was another ditch cougar.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Dude, Listen, there's a lot of things that could be
- 45:48Speaker 1: that's not one of them. That head is not a
- 45:51Speaker 1: barncat's head.
- 45:54Speaker 6: Ale angle light, man, There's just so many things that
- 45:58Speaker 6: play well.
- 46:01Speaker 1: What this guy would have been really helpful if this
- 46:03Speaker 1: guy would have done is taken his tape measure. Is
- 46:08Speaker 1: this thing five feet long or is it eight? Or
- 46:11Speaker 1: is it you know, twenty eight inches long?
- 46:13Speaker 7: Yeah, the the snout just is way longer than your typical.
- 46:19Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, I understand.
- 46:21Speaker 7: At the same time, my wife and I lived at
- 46:24Speaker 7: a house north of Campus and Bozeman, and there was
- 46:28Speaker 7: like a stray black cat who we called him ja'afar
- 46:31Speaker 7: because he just he he sort of reminded us of
- 46:33Speaker 7: just kind of like a sinister like he looks close
- 46:36Speaker 7: close to this, he had a longer snout. If you
- 46:38Speaker 7: saw him from a distance, you'd be like, is that
- 46:39Speaker 7: a cat or is that.
- 46:40Speaker 3: Something he really? Like?
- 46:42Speaker 6: They do exist?
- 46:43Speaker 1: Did you send this picture in film? That's a compelling photo? Now,
- 46:49Speaker 1: the one down is another interesting thing about trailcam problems.
- 46:54Speaker 1: When you have an animal cast in shadow, Uh, it's hard.
- 47:00Speaker 1: And again, where is the tape measure? Because that tuft
- 47:05Speaker 1: of grass would be a great place to start laying
- 47:11Speaker 1: out your tape measure because if that tuft of grass
- 47:16Speaker 1: is ten inches wide, that makes this a really interesting picture.
- 47:21Speaker 1: If that tuft of grass is two inches wide, it
- 47:24Speaker 1: makes it not a very interesting picture.
- 47:27Speaker 3: Is that like a is that a gravel road?
- 47:29Speaker 2: Yeah, we don't know. It's another photo of a computer screen.
- 47:32Speaker 2: And like if this person's computer screen was facing south,
- 47:35Speaker 2: it looks like they were standing on the southwest side
- 47:37Speaker 2: of the computer when they took the photo. There's just
- 47:40Speaker 2: like no level of detail in it.
- 47:42Speaker 3: It's that's just gonna kind of hurt everybody's feet.
- 47:44Speaker 2: I mean, it could be an incredible photody's feelings, and
- 47:47Speaker 2: they're not gonna send anything.
- 47:50Speaker 6: Right, It's like, why wouldn't have you just sent the original?
- 47:54Speaker 1: I think that maybe we should have in our Yeah,
- 47:58Speaker 1: only what kind of case Amercy Runnings run the mute?
- 48:02Speaker 1: Yeah he should, Yeah, send send the originals. And but this
- 48:04Speaker 1: is a learn because this is the first segment. Yeah,
- 48:07Speaker 1: so I'm using cats because they come up. I select
- 48:10Speaker 1: the cats. We'll get into the next segment. Maybe it's
- 48:12Speaker 1: diseased animals. I don't know, it's animals with with wounds,
- 48:16Speaker 1: it's animals carrying arrows sticking out of them whatever, today's cats.
- 48:21Speaker 1: But it's meant to be a little bit of a primer,
- 48:25Speaker 1: a help around how to help yourself. Yeah, don't send pictures.
- 48:31Speaker 3: Of pictures of pictures.
- 48:32Speaker 1: Try to get us the actual picture and try to
- 48:35Speaker 1: do a little bit of Take a thing of known scale,
- 48:40Speaker 1: Take an item of known scale, Take a five gallon
- 48:42Speaker 1: bucket and go out, if you know, at a minimum,
- 48:46Speaker 1: take a five gallon bucket, go out, set it where
- 48:52Speaker 1: you suspect that animal standing, and take a test photo
- 48:56Speaker 1: and capture that and then put together a little dossier
- 49:01Speaker 1: of information that we can then share with experts to
- 49:07Speaker 1: help us out.
- 49:08Speaker 5: Fact sheet.
- 49:09Speaker 2: Yep, Johanny, what's your craziest trail camp photo? Anything exciting?
- 49:18Speaker 6: I don't you know. We've I get a lot which
- 49:20Speaker 6: I find exciting. Is interesting is I'll get bobcats with
- 49:25Speaker 6: uh prey fresh prey in their mouth, you know, their
- 49:28Speaker 6: cruising around with like a squirrel or you know, a grouse.
- 49:32Speaker 6: That's always interesting. I've gotten a couple collared wolves in Wisconsin. Yeah,
- 49:38Speaker 6: and our neighbor to the south, I mean literally bordering us,
- 49:43Speaker 6: got a mountain lion picture this year.
- 49:45Speaker 3: Really one just got hit. No, I think he got
- 49:48Speaker 3: hitting mensoba.
- 49:49Speaker 6: Well the guy, you know, the guy that in self
- 49:51Speaker 6: defense shot the one with the bow in Wisconsin and
- 49:54Speaker 6: that wasn't too far from us.
- 49:56Speaker 3: Oh I heard about that? Was that legit? Yeah, whole defense?
- 50:00Speaker 3: Like what do you mean? What does you mean?
- 50:01Speaker 6: Like the guy, the guy just said that he felt
- 50:05Speaker 6: like that cat was getting ready to come into his
- 50:07Speaker 6: tree and and and tussle with him, and he did not.
- 50:11Speaker 6: He felt, you know, fear for his life.
- 50:13Speaker 2: Pedro wrote a good article on it, not to meat
- 50:15Speaker 2: eater dot com.
- 50:15Speaker 1: I think yep, and I saw. I gotta get more
- 50:19Speaker 1: educated on that. Keep scrolling down because this gets that.
- 50:21Speaker 1: This gets great in terms of cats.
- 50:25Speaker 3: I've held on to.
- 50:25Speaker 1: This photo for a few years now. This is in
- 50:27Speaker 1: reference to one from another Connecticut one. Well, jeez, and
- 50:31Speaker 1: very seldom to break it out to show someone. Allow
- 50:34Speaker 1: me to elaborate. You see, my home state is in Connecticut. No,
- 50:38Speaker 1: his home state is Connecticut. His home state is not
- 50:41Speaker 1: in Connecticut. And people lose their minds if you say
- 50:45Speaker 1: mountain lion. If a questionable photo pops up, it's immediately
- 50:48Speaker 1: discredited as a line. Yeah, Oh, it's immediately DISCREDI if
- 50:55Speaker 1: if a photo pops up and you say it's a line,
- 50:57Speaker 1: it gets immediately discredited. People refuse to believe there could
- 51:00Speaker 1: ever be one in the state, even when and I
- 51:02Speaker 1: believe it's been mentioned on the previous podcast, one was
- 51:04Speaker 1: hit by a car in twenty eleven. I've seen many
- 51:08Speaker 1: bobcats while sitting in the trees in the fall. I'm
- 51:10Speaker 1: not one hundred percent, but my gut leans toward a
- 51:12Speaker 1: mountain line. He apologizes to Clay that it is not
- 51:15Speaker 1: a black panther north Stonington, Connecticut, right on the border.
- 51:21Speaker 3: Of the Rhode Island Bobcat.
- 51:26Speaker 1: I'm going one hundred percent Bobcat. But that leads me
- 51:29Speaker 1: to my point. The bummer is the tails absent, which
- 51:34Speaker 1: also leads me a thing. How many photos do you
- 51:37Speaker 1: have set and do you have video? I'm asking his
- 51:44Speaker 1: feller because if he had a three, if he had
- 51:46Speaker 1: a three photo spurt separated by a couple seconds, he'd
- 51:50Speaker 1: probably have a doozy. But if he's got a single photo,
- 51:52Speaker 1: he's gonna wind up always being disappointed. And if you
- 51:56Speaker 1: have there's another thing to keep in mind, because some
- 51:58Speaker 1: people don't realize this. If you have a cellular ca
- 52:00Speaker 1: and you're allowed to use cellar their cameras in the area, Uh,
- 52:04Speaker 1: generally you you'll get texted or emailed whatever one but
- 52:14Speaker 1: the card holds the video. You follow me. So if
- 52:20Speaker 1: you had this thing on a burst of photos, you
- 52:23Speaker 1: might have caught him when you could see his butt
- 52:25Speaker 1: and see what he had for a tail. I think
- 52:27Speaker 1: that I think you're looking at a bobcat, especially because
- 52:29Speaker 1: the dude says he sees bobcats all the time. I
- 52:32Speaker 1: think it's a it's a skinny summer pelt bobcat, and
- 52:37Speaker 1: he dissenters.
- 52:40Speaker 6: I don't see enough fluff to his head to make
- 52:42Speaker 6: me think Bob the all the summer bobcat.
- 52:46Speaker 2: Yeah, if that picture is in Montana, I'd be like, yeah,
- 52:48Speaker 2: it's like eighty percent chance that's Bobcat. But uh, Connecticut,
- 52:52Speaker 2: because it looks like a bobcat. Say bobcat.
- 52:57Speaker 1: Now, the next photo is a really good one, is it? Yeah,
- 53:02Speaker 1: because because it's one that you can absolutely solve. Okay,
- 53:05Speaker 1: it's the only one that can be categorically solved. This
- 53:08Speaker 1: one looks like photo inception. You've got like someone took
- 53:11Speaker 1: a picture of a computer screen, and then someone took
- 53:16Speaker 1: a photo of that screenshot. Yeah, and now we're like
- 53:18Speaker 1: four layers removed from then his mom took a picture
- 53:20Speaker 1: and sent it to us. But I like this one
- 53:23Speaker 1: because it's solvable. It's a cat squat and in tall grass,
- 53:31Speaker 1: very poor quality. If you were walking through. You remember
- 53:36Speaker 1: in the old days when you used to be able
- 53:37Speaker 1: to have your TV set on static, like because you
- 53:40Speaker 1: had like three channels, and if it was on any
- 53:43Speaker 1: other channel, it was just like static. We called the
- 53:45Speaker 1: bug Show when we were kids. You think that this
- 53:48Speaker 1: was just a set on static, But if you look carefully,
- 53:51Speaker 1: you start to make out.
- 53:51Speaker 3: That it's a cat that tale.
- 53:54Speaker 1: But yes, you okay, where does he say?
- 53:59Speaker 3: What's going on?
- 54:01Speaker 1: Southeastern Minnesota on a watering hole. We have not been
- 54:04Speaker 1: able to figure out what this is and it's been
- 54:06Speaker 1: a topic of discussion. Is it a deer, no bobcat,
- 54:10Speaker 1: we'll talk about it, or mountain lion, we will talk
- 54:12Speaker 1: about it. Aaron, Aaron, go to the right end of
- 54:18Speaker 1: that cat. First off, where's your tape measured? Second, go
- 54:23Speaker 1: to the right because you'd be able to go to
- 54:24Speaker 1: that spot. The clumps in the grass would guide you
- 54:27Speaker 1: right to that spot. Go to the right side of
- 54:30Speaker 1: that picture. That cat is squatting and taking a piss
- 54:36Speaker 1: and its tail to not get soiled. His little bobcat
- 54:42Speaker 1: tail is curled up and black tipped. Its tail is bobbed.
- 54:48Speaker 1: It's a bobcat one hundred percent.
- 54:51Speaker 3: That's what it looks like.
- 54:53Speaker 1: Bobcat.
- 54:54Speaker 3: And you if you look I was looking. I was
- 54:57Speaker 3: trying to find the spots. But if you look right,
- 55:00Speaker 3: look at that. But they have poor spots out there.
- 55:02Speaker 3: Ain't that spots really you think? I mean, that's why.
- 55:06Speaker 3: That's why they're not valuable. That's why a bobcat can be.
- 55:09Speaker 1: That's why a bobcat from the high desert, you know,
- 55:14Speaker 1: like a bobcat from the high desert like the Mojave
- 55:18Speaker 1: or something, or all Manner areas and Idaho places in
- 55:21Speaker 1: Utah whatever can be worth a thousand bucks, and then
- 55:24Speaker 1: a bobcat from Michigan can be worth fifteen bucks.
- 55:27Speaker 2: They just don't have the spot quality.
- 55:28Speaker 1: They don't have good they don't have a white belly
- 55:30Speaker 1: and black spots on it. They're dirty colors. They don't
- 55:33Speaker 1: have clean spots. Like when I was a kid, we
- 55:36Speaker 1: I didn't even I wasn't even trying to catch bobcats
- 55:38Speaker 1: because they're worth nothing. And meanwhile guys are selling.
- 55:41Speaker 3: Them for eight hundred bucks, thousand bucks, twelve hundred bucks.
- 55:43Speaker 5: Montana cats are can be valuable.
- 55:47Speaker 2: What about a southern bobcat?
- 55:49Speaker 3: No, like the spot wise, No, it's not good.
- 55:52Speaker 2: No spots.
- 55:53Speaker 3: You want high country usually, yep.
- 55:56Speaker 1: You want they get They get valuable when you got
- 56:00Speaker 1: If it's four fingers wide on the belly and pure
- 56:04Speaker 1: white with very cleanly defined black spots, that's the value
- 56:07Speaker 1: that that's going to wind up on an oligark's wife.
- 56:10Speaker 1: You know what, It's going to wind up lining the
- 56:12Speaker 1: coat of an oligark's wife.
- 56:14Speaker 6: I learned recently, speaking of furs. I was thinking about
- 56:18Speaker 6: getting one of my first light, big puffy down jackets
- 56:22Speaker 6: lined with a kyo. You know that I had.
- 56:25Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I'm fixing to do that.
- 56:27Speaker 6: And uh, I didn't know this, but like you also
- 56:30Speaker 6: rate the kyo, it's by how many of those rounds
- 56:33Speaker 6: that you get. And I didn't know that it's cut
- 56:35Speaker 6: like this. It's it's a circumference piece, not a length piece.
- 56:41Speaker 1: Until recently it makes total sense. Yeah, you take cut
- 56:45Speaker 1: it like you're cutting firewood. Yea, and yeah. Once someone
- 56:49Speaker 1: said that to me, I.
- 56:49Speaker 3: Was like, man, it makes a hell of a lot
- 56:51Speaker 3: of sense. There's a guy that lived in a neighborhood
- 56:54Speaker 3: and i'll say a neighborhood. He lived in the country
- 56:57Speaker 3: where we lived, and he talked about making shoelaces, bootlaces
- 57:01Speaker 3: out of squirrels, squirrel hides. I think high in the world,
- 57:06Speaker 3: could you make a you know, a pair of bootlaces,
- 57:09Speaker 3: leather bootlaces out of a squirrel And he said, well,
- 57:12Speaker 3: it's easy. And they tan it and tack it up
- 57:15Speaker 3: on the barn, on the side of the barn, and
- 57:17Speaker 3: they take a knife and they'd cut it in swirls
- 57:20Speaker 3: like that, circles. Yeah. And then he said that you
- 57:24Speaker 3: would wear out a pair of broken shoes before you
- 57:27Speaker 3: broke a squirrel a pair of squirrel laces. Oh, you're
- 57:30Speaker 3: kidding us. What he said that they was absolutely tough.
- 57:33Speaker 3: I'm doing that, man, that's interesting. I've never done it. Now.
- 57:37Speaker 1: One time I took a buffalo hide and took a
- 57:43Speaker 1: knife and started doing that, cutting a half inch wide
- 57:46Speaker 1: strip of leather around the edge.
- 57:49Speaker 3: You guys, you can make something, I mean, oh yeah, you.
- 57:52Speaker 1: Get one hundred yard layer one hundred yard just by
- 57:56Speaker 1: doing that round and round and round. That's what people
- 57:59Speaker 1: do to make those big, long, big long leather ropes.
- 58:01Speaker 2: How many squirrels if you ten, Steve, I mean we
- 58:04Speaker 2: used to.
- 58:04Speaker 1: Try to tan them we were kids. We never got
- 58:06Speaker 1: one to successfully work out. We would take uh, you know,
- 58:09Speaker 1: saddle soap and stuff and try to rub it in
- 58:11Speaker 1: there and it never worked out.
- 58:12Speaker 2: What do you think the shortcoming was?
- 58:16Speaker 3: Pre internet?
- 58:17Speaker 1: Okay, you got it. People don't membery like people like
- 58:20Speaker 1: you don't know this. You used to not be able
- 58:24Speaker 1: to find things out.
- 58:26Speaker 3: In the encyclopedia if you looked it up, it was
- 58:29Speaker 3: only current to the day that book was printed. Yeah,
- 58:31Speaker 3: there was one we had in our house. Was one
- 58:33Speaker 3: they got my brother when he was I mean they
- 58:36Speaker 3: were ten years old. There were countries and everyone in
- 58:39Speaker 3: the same name.
- 58:42Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right, man. You'd look and be like the
- 58:45Speaker 1: Ottoman Empire, what where's that exactly?
- 58:51Speaker 5: We used to try and tan like rabbits and squirrels
- 58:54Speaker 5: with remember that orange bottle like orders that you yeah,
- 59:02Speaker 5: and we'd always get Yeah, we'm we saw them salt
- 59:06Speaker 5: them and cure them and that stuff. But they always
- 59:09Speaker 5: just which hids do turned you know, a rock solid
- 59:13Speaker 5: and we just never had the patience to break them
- 59:15Speaker 5: and soft to stick.
- 59:16Speaker 3: Put them on a stake in board and do that. Yeah.
- 59:18Speaker 1: I was living for a while Missoula and there was
- 59:20Speaker 1: this kind of old hippie couple next to me in
- 59:23Speaker 1: the house.
- 59:23Speaker 3: Next to me, Oh, you want.
- 59:24Speaker 1: To hear a story, not about them, but about that house, dude?
- 59:29Speaker 2: When I, uh, I never.
- 59:31Speaker 3: Really told the story that time I took someone to
- 59:34Speaker 3: small claims court.
- 59:35Speaker 2: Mm hmm was that the only time? Yeah?
- 59:38Speaker 3: And the judge was so mad at him, they yelled
- 59:40Speaker 3: at him. Really, I got my money, I walked out
- 59:43Speaker 3: of there.
- 59:47Speaker 1: The judge was when I got that person, finally got
- 59:50Speaker 1: that sum bitch into into the small claims court. The judge.
- 59:54Speaker 1: I laid out my whole deal. And the judge never
- 59:58Speaker 1: even wanted to hear them whatever they call mitigat or whatever.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: Didn't you want to hear what they had to say?
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: Tell them laid into them.
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: Really, Oh yeah, I'll tell you real quick. I'll try
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: to tell us quick. Okay.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Anyways, next door is this old hippie couple of no
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: brain tan deer hides. But I was surprise how much
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: they shrank whatever process they were using real like, they'd want,
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: you know, the good sized deer, and you'd wind up
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: somethings like, you know, really I mean small.
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: Yeah. I could never figure out why their stuff was
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: shrinking so bad.
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: I wonder if that's typical for brain tans.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: Oh, no, I'd like to get into it. It's just
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: one of those things like chess brain tanning. There's just
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: certain things. I'm not going to go down that path,
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: do you know what I mean?
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: Yeah, chess?
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: Is that what you said?
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: Just certain things that just seemed like a deep hole,
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: you know, and once you go into it, once you
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: go into it, it's just you're never gonna get to.
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: The bottom of the hole. Uh huh. You know you
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: follow me, and so I don't go near your stuff.
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: So yeah, I'll check this out. I'll try to explain
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: it real quick.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: We're living in this house, and you know, sometimes when
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: you're in a lease and you get a new like,
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: you're always trying to time your moves so that you
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: don't pay rent in two places at once. But me
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: and my buddy were in this one house and this
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: other house that we really wanted to came up and
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: we just had to do one of those deals where
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: it sucks. We had to pay the two rents, but
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: in the long time it was advantageous, like we'd recover
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: our money's our new place was cheaper, so we had
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: to play pay two rents. We're paying simultaneous rents. We
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: moved most of our stuff out of the house and
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: we're in our new house. But then our other house
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: that we're paying rent on. It's like the seventh of
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: the month that house burns down to the ground. Not
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: our fault. It started in the wiring and the it
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: started in the wiring somewhere in the house. The fire
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: department did an investigation. They're like, there was a wiring issue,
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: nothing to do with the tenants. We weren't even there anyway,
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: So cere.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: A moment where you thought it could have been your fault.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: I didn't know, but I mean they like very quickly, well, no,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: because we weren't in there, so I mean, we didn't
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: do it. It wasn't that we were partying or something
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: and someone caught something on fire. I wait a respectable
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: amount of time and I go to the landlord and
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I say, I need my rent back from the seventh
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: to the end of the month because the house doesn't
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: exist anymore, and I'm renting it, right And they're like, well,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: you're not living there anyway, to which I said, well,
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: we had a bunch of stuff in there and it's
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: now gone and it's none of your business and I
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: could be renting it. It's like I could have never
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: stepped footing there. Ever, what's it to do with you?
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: If I wanted to go there, it was mine to
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: go to. I'm renting it. How do you know where
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: I'm going. The only reason you know I'm not there
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: is because I told you I'm not there. It has
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: nothing to do with the issue whether I'm sleeping there
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: or not. It's like, it's gone, it's not my fault,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: and you can't rent me a thing that is burned
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: down because you have faulty wiring.
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: They wouldn't give me the damn money.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: So eventually get down to the small claims court and
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: I come in here and I got the fire department
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: report and all these pictures and paperwork, and I get
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: to go first and I lay my thing out and
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: that judge turns to that landlord and they're like, you know, she's.
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: Like Oh, you just cast them checks when they come
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: in month after month after month. In the minute, there's
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: a problem. You can't be found that landlord.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: And you gained some faith in the American courtses.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: Oh yeah, man, yeah, yeah, I was like, I was
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: like Lee Green would walk on. I don't know what's
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: next on trail cams. A lot of disease stuff, keep
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: sending them in. But try to take some lessons from
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: what we discussed today. Two primary lessons being Spencer, the
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: original photo and the tape measure. And this segment will
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: improve greatly when we have those things.
- 1:04:05Speaker 6: Yeah, it's kind of it's it's not coincidence that a
- 1:04:08Speaker 6: lot of these questionable animals come in the form of
- 1:04:12Speaker 6: a questionable picture.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: So, uh, we haven't got any pictures of wolverines faker
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: real yet. However, a little interesting news bit is, uh, Colorado,
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: after they're very contentious ballot initiative to reintroduce wolves, which
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: got a lot of people fired up, they're now shooting
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: to reintroduce wolverines, which I'm predicting will encounter zero.
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: Pushback.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: I say, that's a great idea.
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I ain't gonna bother nobody.
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: Well, Brody says this, Brody feels that knowing police, knowing
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: the governor in Colorado, and how antagonistic he is to hunters,
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: that uh, that this will quickly.
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: Be used to put in further fur trapping restrictions. Oh,
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: like I put riders on this field, it'll be the wolfrail.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: Oh now we have old rings and we don't want
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: someone accidentally catching the wolverine. Therefore you can't do X,
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: Y and Z. But if you do the reintroduction, we'll
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: go in as an experimental population, so it'll be a
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: little bit different. Maybe Brody's being a little cynical, but
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: Brody's watched Colorado change a lot in the current administration,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: like I said, is so outwardly antagonistic to hunters, and
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: the governor has also expressed support for ending fur trapping
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: all together, express support for protecting black bears and mountain
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: lions from any hunting regardless of population levels. So Brody
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: a very own Brody.
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: Henderson is.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: Supportive of wolverines being on the landscape, but not supportive
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: of what the end goal might be. If this is
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: just an honest deal to to bring in wolverines, great Wolverine's.
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: Coolah, They're traditionally there aren't they in that.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: Area in the high country. Problem with wolverines, we've gotten
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: to this a couple of times. It's just their hard
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: animal to count.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: How many of you seen in your life? One that
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: was in Alaska?
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: I saw one on that I saw one on the
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: moose hunt that we were at with these guys. It
- 1:06:24Speaker 5: was incredible how much it moved. It was going in
- 1:06:27Speaker 5: where those wolves were.
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: Remember you saw wolverine on that trip. Yep.
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: Oh, it was running from miles away and I first
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: thought it was like a bear, and it was like
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: running for a couple of miles just right to where
- 1:06:41Speaker 5: those wolves were. It got right into where those wolves
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: were and sit down in wherever that kill was.
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I've seen one linx and one wolverine. I hope
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: to grow those numbers.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: Did you have any trail cameras in Alaska at your fishk.
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: I have not currently.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: I I really, I you, I really should just right now.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: Unfortunately I don't. I'm in a plaster that place. Next
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: time I'm up there.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: Would that be a hard landscape to like have game
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: walk within ten feet?
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: Oh? When I had one in there, just I got
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: tons of images.
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: There's deer and bears.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: Martin black bears, black tails predominantly. Yeah.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: No, it's a great place to have them out just
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: right now, don't And I know right where I have
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: some good spots where I want to put me and I'll
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: get some wolf pictures and stuff. Here's a good story.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: I don't want to get too specifics. I don't want
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: to get this particular tsa person in trouble.
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: And I don't want to ruin a good This is a.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: Cool, great system. I don't even want to name the state. Yeah,
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: I'm not even to name the state.
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: It's a good call.
- 1:07:42Speaker 6: But it's similar to what we heard a lot of
- 1:07:44Speaker 6: people do at that. Uh wasn't it the Denver show
- 1:07:48Speaker 6: that we did a long time ago?
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: And they wouldn't let people in with their knives.
- 1:07:51Speaker 6: Yeah, and so everybody started stashing knives and they go
- 1:07:54Speaker 6: to a rock or was it a down.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: Down put his knife in a down spout and there's
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: already So.
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: I love this.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: I buried one out. I was somewhere with my wife
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: or another there and they wouldn't let me have my knife,
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: and I just buried it in a tree. Well, you know,
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: like how they put the trees on the sidewalk. Yeah,
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: I just buried it under the woodschips. Every went and
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: got it. Later, this guy says, he, uh, he's going
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: to TSA in an unnamed state, and he forgets he
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: has a he has a bench made in his pocket,
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: and the lady says, well.
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: Go hide it.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: Go hide it in the drop ceiling. Go hide in
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: the drop ceiling of the bathroom.
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: The coolest TSAG.
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: He says.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: Three weeks later, he's gone for three weeks, so he's departing.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: He's on a three week trip, comes back three weeks
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: later and goes and lifts up that drop ceiling panel
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: and there's three knives there.
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: That's like the bas felt.
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: He said, I found a knife and pull it out. Nope,
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: not mine, and put it back, found another, not mine again,
- 1:08:58Speaker 5: and put that one back in a well, third try
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: did the trick. I went home pleased.
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: It seemed like early on TSA would uh or no,
- 1:09:08Speaker 6: it wasn't TSA. It was just like USPS would have
- 1:09:10Speaker 6: like a box, and TSA would be like, oh, right
- 1:09:12Speaker 6: over there, there's a box. There's an envelope you can
- 1:09:15Speaker 6: very quickly mail your think you're on and you can't
- 1:09:18Speaker 6: take with you back to yourself.
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: But that's not around anymore.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: Well, that'd be a great idea we should look into. Man,
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: it's maybe like at art No, just at our local airport,
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: like a charitable thing where we have a little kiosk
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: so you can mail your knives to yourself.
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: Good, you'd get a lot of action. Clay and I
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: were going flying somewhere I think maybe up to b C.
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: And they he had a knife you could have sword
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: fault with in his shaving ship.
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: And that doesn't how come that doesn't surprise.
- 1:09:51Speaker 6: Classic, right next to his coffee table book.
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: And but it was in fable and they let us
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: call me study come pick it up, and we'd and
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: somewhere else that had just confiscated it. Took us out
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: back and shot us.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: But because it was so well no they yeah, they'll
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: you know, it depends how early are. But you always
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: had the option to retreat and go do something with it,
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: or you'll run down and get in your check bags.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: But if they can't pull it up, you just got.
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: To ditch it.
- 1:10:15Speaker 6: Yeah, everything else a pistol, Oh, different, different deal.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: My buddy got I got a couple buddies's gotten a
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: lot of trouble over pistols. I talked about one buddy.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: I said, man, if you got a pistol in your
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: bag you don't know about, they should shoot you. Like,
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: how do you have a pistol you forgot about in
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: your check bag?
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, some whole elaborate story to explain it.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: But I'm like, how do you lose track?
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: Bud in mine flies to Vegas all wearing this coat
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: that he's got on. They're getting there, coming back through,
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: coming back home, and then something goes off in his pocket.
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: He's got two twenty two rounds in his pocket, and man,
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: it was like cavity search and everything. Yeah, I had
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: to do that. It was the same he went out there.
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: It was never detected when he was coming all it
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: was in there.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: When I had a shotgun shell on me, their attitude
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: was you dumb ass. It was like, now we got
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: to do all this stuff, you know. I said, Man,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: we were timing and hunting and blah blah blah, and
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: their attitude was very much. I get it. Obviously you're
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: not going to try to take the plane down with
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: a shotgun shell, But now we got to do all
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: this dumb stuff. And it's really irritating that you carried
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: that shotgun shell on here and just bear, you know,
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: bear with us, but you're really annoying. Yeah, it was
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: kind of like it was very much like there was
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: no like actual suspicion. It's like, oh, brother, now we
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: gotta go through the whole shotgun shell deal.
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: That was the end. That was at the end of
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: the shift. Those folks were hot. They were trying to
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: go home.
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: When my buddy got hate, when my buddy had his pistol,
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: he winds up need to go to court, you know,
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: and he gets a very like after everything came out,
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: he gets a very lenient deal, and he says, he
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: whispers to his lawyer, ask about the gun.
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: Lyrisays, forget the gun, you know, getting it back.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: Guy wrote a very spirited thing and about my theory
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: on the morality and CORMANTT. McCarthy being naive and juvenile.
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: I'm not gonna read that.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: Another guy wrote in Oh, come on, it's just a lot.
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: It's like I studied literature.
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: In school, I don't.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: He well, no, it's rather pedestrian and short sighted.
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: He says.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: Sure, some of his later more obvious works, yes, but
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: it's not my theory does not hold up to his
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: earlier works. And that's pairpoint old time, he saying. This
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: guy wrote in because I was trying to get that saying.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: Going a fresh set of eyes will always find more beans,
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: he says.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: Man, Me and my buddy's got a lot of those.
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: Always leave a log.
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: For the next camp. That's good.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: Some are dumb. Gotta give a piss or some space. No, no,
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: never judge a game by its box. That's for people
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: that don't read some I don't get when two fur
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: traders throw down, they get naked.
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: You used one today, I've never heard.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: Sometimes the sheriff's got to shoot his deputy.
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: That is wild.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: Moss is uclimbable. What did I say today?
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: You said that he had his lipstick on which I stick.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: Was like, I assume that's.
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: Like about it? Yeah, using about dogs.
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: I assume that's like when people mostly use it about dogs.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: I've never heard that though. I got what you were
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: say though, like they picked up very quickly.
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: You know what else, if I had to go to
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: one of those things where you trip, you know, you
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: try to find out what's deep in your mind. I
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: remember having it when I was a little boy. Man
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: coming running in the house.
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: We had this dog Bobo, this rabbit dog Bobo coming
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: in the house.
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: Bobo's got your hanging out.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: Oh last thing that we're gonna be done. This pisses
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: me off. Oh no, there's two things that are good.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: This one burns me up. Some Listen when we had
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: Evan Felker on from the Turnpike Troubadours, and we were
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: talking about him and the bird Hunters, which is a
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: beloved song. It's a great song, and I'm talking with
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: Evan Felker about the fact that he throws out that
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: the guy is holding a Belgian made Browning yep. And
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: I said to him, as a songwriter, I like these
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: little references. Do you worry though that a reference might
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: be over people's head? And I bring up there's a
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: there's a Luke Comb song where he says that the
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: guy has a Johnson outboard. Okay, so you're saying, like,
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: when you select that, it's it's the guy doesn't have
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: a Honda outboard. That's different. It's like you're setting the scene.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: It's like he's got a Johnson outboard. He's an older fella.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: He's got an outboard it's not even made anymore. It
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: takes a certain amount of effort to keep the old
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: thing running. It's just a different you know, he doesn't
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: say he's got a four stroke Honda. That's like, not
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: the guy. It's this guy that's like loyal to his wife,
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: right whatever, and he's got this old ass motor. So
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: you're setting a you're using a detail, setting a scene.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: And I was pointing out that you do that, and
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: it might be that sixty seventy eighty percent of listeners
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: don't know. To bring it back to Coran McCarthy, Corant
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: McCarthy's saying that someone rode ahead with the horn of fire.
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: How many people read that and never ever ever know
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: what he's talking about.
- 1:16:02Speaker 5: Yeah, but the people that know love it. You're like
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: fan for life, So you got it.
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: So I brought up to Evan Felker that that idea
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: about these little details that mean a lot to a
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: handful of people, but you run the risk of it
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: being over people's heads. And then multiple guys right in
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: being like, I can't believe Steve didn't see the significance
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: of Belgium made browning. That's not what I was talking about.
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: I wasn't throwing myself in with those people. I was
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: just saying that there's a risk of being too esoteric,
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: that I appreciate the risk taker take that.
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: Andrew and jan An, let me ask you. Let me
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: add my Matthew to that list. Matthew, Matthew, he worked
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: for USS that and uh I like to drink Nope
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: for customs. Oh, he says. I just think listening to
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: Alvin Felker interview on me there a Renella actually gave
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: him some crap about mentioning that Belgium maaide brown my
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: old man.
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: Listen, my old man had what he always said was
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: a Belgium made browning. And then we looked up the
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: serial number. It was not a belgiam made browning.
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: Huh where was it? Maid? It must have been a
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: mom even where did.
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: They move him to?
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: I don't know, it just wasn't. He always says.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: It was actually my mom's dad's was my maternal grandfather's
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: autooder that somehow my dad claimed, I didn't know who
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: the hell's got it? Now my mom's dad's goose gun
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: and my dad I said, that's belgiam made brown It's
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: Belgiamaine brownie.
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: So that I mean that was twenty minutes before we
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: started this. So I took a picture of him, of
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: you and sent it to him while you were on
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: your computer. Said, you made me punching, He said, I
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: think you have to listen. Dude.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: His name's not Jan is it.
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: No, it's Matthew.
- 1:17:54Speaker 6: This guy's got the bottom steed, he even said. Andrew says,
- 1:17:58Speaker 6: that's the great thing about music. It paints a different
- 1:18:01Speaker 6: picture from every.
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: Guy, says. The Belgium made Browning reference in the song
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: The Bird Hunters was to signal to those in the know, dude,
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: you're playing checkers and I'm playing chess.
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: Buddy.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: I know he doesn't play chess, though.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: Metaphorical chess. I know that.
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: Sons of bitches.
- 1:18:26Speaker 6: Yeah, we must have just not done a great job
- 1:18:28Speaker 6: explaining it at the in the moment, that's all it is.
- 1:18:32Speaker 7: It's like that kind of specificity in songs that like
- 1:18:34Speaker 7: ground the ground something to reality, and like even if
- 1:18:36Speaker 7: you don't understand the reference, it kind of it still
- 1:18:39Speaker 7: feels like, I don't know, more relatable and.
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: A lot of a lot of that stuff.
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: Chess, You're ready for Chetticutte done.
- 1:18:49Speaker 5: I feel though a lot of people nowadays could be wrong.
- 1:18:54Speaker 5: Don't actually really listen to the lyrics the radio songs.
- 1:18:59Speaker 5: You could be mumbling and have a good back beating
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: stuff and it could be a number one hit.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: Oh I listened to them lyrics, man, I did too
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: bad bad listen to him hard.
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:19:12Speaker 7: I don't listen to the lyrics episodes. I've heard it
- 1:19:14Speaker 7: like twenty times.
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: I listened to it twenty times.
- 1:19:17Speaker 6: Oh, I'm on more like twenty years. Like, yeah, what's
- 1:19:23Speaker 6: the song where he leaves to go to the bathroom
- 1:19:26Speaker 6: and he comes back to bed. Someone's taking his place? Yeah?
- 1:19:32Speaker 6: Forever I thought that she was shaking his coffin daily
- 1:19:36Speaker 6: and then M's like, what.
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: Are you saying?
- 1:19:39Speaker 6: No, he's shaking his confidence. I was like, oh, his.
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: Cough, wake up.
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: I'm a big lyric guy.
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: Man.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: You know, I've talked about this before, but I haven't
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: talked about it for years. Songer talking about it again.
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: I once read that remember when Diamond Dave left Van
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: hand One, No, I don't yep, And they brought in
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: and they brought Hagar. Yeah yeah, I mean not not
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: the dog on Sammy, but it was horrible. Yeah, so
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: Van Halen, Diamond Dave left Van Halen next went on
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: to become an E M T. I don't know if
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: you knew that. No, he became an ambulance guy just
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: because he wanted to serve people a little bit better.
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: So this leads one of my favorite quotes of all
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: time too. Anyways, when so van Halen ditched uh, Diamond
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: Dave what was his last name?
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: Thanking on it? Good gosh, people are screaming at this.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: Yeah, van Halen ditched Diamond David Lee Roth and hired Hagar.
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: Then later Hagar got fired from Van Halen. So I
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: remember I was listening to Howard Stern and Howard Stern
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: was interviewing Diamond Dave about Hagar's departure from Van Halen,
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: and Diamond Dave said, you know, the sun's gonna shine
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: again for Sammy.
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: He's got that beautiful place and why he's got his family,
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: And then Diamond Dave says, but.
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: What do I know about losing the high profile career.
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: But Hagar supposedly would get his lyrics by misunderstanding other lyrics,
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: and then he'd find out what they were actually saying,
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: and he would just make his lyrics what he thought
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: they were saying, which is a great move, but I
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: don't I said this before. I don't know how that
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: leads to I can't drive fifty five?
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: Yeah, where'd they go from?
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: Or mos tequila?
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: But still last one? Oh? No, two ones?
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: Kachas, here's a chettikit for you.
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: Ready for this? I haven't read it, but well I'm
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: going to read it to you.
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: I remember the guy who owns a crap load of
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: land that's like a hectare.
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: Huge hunter.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: Last night had a friend of him ask him if
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: he can bring his twelve year old grandson out to
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: kill a doe, no box, just looking for a dough
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: for his first year. Guy says no problem, sends him
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: to a blind confirms does only even says he can
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: shoot a couple dos, just don't shoot the bucks. Kid
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: kills the biggest buck on the farm. What would you do?
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: I would? I would definitely, h oh man, that's tough.
- 1:22:34Speaker 5: I would. I would. I'd let the kid know that
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: he messed up and he can never hunt here again.
- 1:22:41Speaker 5: I mean it's well the kid or the grand uh,
- 1:22:46Speaker 5: I mean both holds the kid, the kid.
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: Twelve years old.
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: I leave the kid out of it. Yep. Well, it's
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: the grandest problem.
- 1:22:53Speaker 5: I don't know. I mean, they sure could be.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: It's the grandest problem. I have a twelve year old, well,
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: I had one a year ago and I have one
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: new year.
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: The grandma'st problem. Yeah, they don't know little kids.
- 1:23:06Speaker 5: Yeah, but.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: I mean grandma's problem.
- 1:23:09Speaker 5: Hold your kid, he's way too young to hunt or talk.
- 1:23:14Speaker 5: He's a year.
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: Okay, in eleven years, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
- 1:23:18Speaker 6: But if so, I would have certainly had a conversation
- 1:23:21Speaker 6: with my twelve year old daughter about what the parameters
- 1:23:25Speaker 6: were about the hunt that we were getting into. I'm
- 1:23:26Speaker 6: not saying I'm gonna like be like, damn a girl,
- 1:23:30Speaker 6: you fucked that. Know, like I'm not gonna do that,
- 1:23:32Speaker 6: But I mean, obviously, like beforehand, you had a conversation
- 1:23:35Speaker 6: about and someone.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: Needs to talk to that kids. It's the grandpast problem,
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: is not that kid's problem.
- 1:23:43Speaker 6: Yeah, one hundred percent.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: Send your kid to school with some drugs and then
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: tell me who gets in trouble. You were the kid.
- 1:23:50Speaker 6: I don't think that's a good analogy.
- 1:23:53Speaker 5: No, I mean I think I think there needs it's
- 1:23:59Speaker 5: a grandma problem and the kid's problem too. Like the
- 1:24:02Speaker 5: kid pulled the trigger. We don't know the story. How
- 1:24:06Speaker 5: much pressure was there from the grandfather to shoot that buck.
- 1:24:10Speaker 5: The kid could have really wanted to shoot a buck.
- 1:24:12Speaker 5: I remember when I was twelve years old, like I
- 1:24:15Speaker 5: wanted to shoot things, man, like a big buck. Holy cow.
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I did he wake grandpa up? Yeah?
- 1:24:24Speaker 7: Not see that the gun was trained on a bunk.
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: Yeah you got one. Oh my gosh.
- 1:24:28Speaker 5: So I think there needs to be a swift talk
- 1:24:31Speaker 5: and to both of these fellas that they messed up.
- 1:24:34Speaker 6: I wouldn't.
- 1:24:35Speaker 5: I wouldn't let him take the deer. Really no, because
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: you gave him permission to hunt.
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: Art right there, man, until he didn't sleep all night.
- 1:24:46Speaker 5: Dude, you're you're a nice guy. You're letting him hunt
- 1:24:49Speaker 5: your proper You could say, shoot as many doze as
- 1:24:51Speaker 5: or want, but please don't shoot a big buck. And
- 1:24:54Speaker 5: then the guys come shoot a big buck, they don't
- 1:24:56Speaker 5: get to hunt the place again. You take the buck
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: and you let him know they messed up.
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: Mm hmm boom boom.
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: It's like, oh, it's fine, you guys shot the biggest
- 1:25:08Speaker 5: buck on the property. You know, come back whenever shoot.
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: Does come back at night.
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: I'm asleep, kid, there's one more it's about stream access law.
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: This is a good one, as we are aware. This
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: is someone right now, as we are aware. Montana stream
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: access law is blow historic high water level. It's it's
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: you're you're kind of right mean high water and if
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: you stay below that, you are free to wander. Not
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: he says, free to wonder. He's free to wander, meaning
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: on a nag in Montana. It's for you listeners, not
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: in the state of Montana, which is the vast majority
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: of you. If you're in Montana and you're on what's
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: regarded as a navigable stream, so that there's a history
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: of navigation on that waterway, you can walk blow the
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: average high water mark, meaning if it's in a drought,
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: you might be walking across dry ground, but you're kind
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: of standing down on the gravel bars and you know,
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: blow the bank.
- 1:26:05Speaker 5: Yeah, if anybody you know pays attention to it, you
- 1:26:10Speaker 5: can see where that high water mark is. There's usually
- 1:26:14Speaker 5: a brush line from high water. You stay below that,
- 1:26:17Speaker 5: you stay on the rocks. Easy to tell.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: If you're walking on a if you're walking on a
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: within our if you're stepping on a cottonwood tree route,
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: you're probably not in your you're above it. Some tepping
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: on a gravel bar, you probably blow.
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: It sometimes those cottonwood roots that, however, go underneath.
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: In Yeah, that wasn't a good one. But you follow me. Yeah,
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: it's a bunch of I don't know, you know, but
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: you're good.
- 1:26:40Speaker 6: If you're up in the grass.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: If you're up in the grass, you're probably out of it.
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: If you're down in the gravel bar and little you know,
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: willow patches all full of sediment, and and uh, you
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: can see where spring runoff is blowing all kinds of
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: brush and trees around.
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: You're walking down there. You're good.
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: So this is a common thing. He climbs in the
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: river channel out of public access. He climbs in the
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: river channel at a bridge, walks through private ground using
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: stream access to access public and he's scouting for deer.
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: Find some good sign of deer, and he says, sweet,
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: I'm going to get to this public by walking the
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: public access game.
- 1:27:23Speaker 5: Warden says, there's some legality.
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: Can't do that.
- 1:27:27Speaker 5: You have to be fishing.
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: You can't use you can't use the stream access law
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: to get to.
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: Hunting ground. Hunting ground.
- 1:27:39Speaker 5: I've heard some gray areas stuff with this.
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: Different wardens interpreted different ways. But let me tell you
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: the fail safe way to do it. Make a couple casts.
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: Make a couple of casts on your way in, Make
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: a couple of casts on.
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: Your way out.
- 1:27:56Speaker 5: Yeah, you have a fishing rod with you.
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: You have a Yeah, you have right of access.
- 1:27:59Speaker 5: And I I have done this a lot actually, but
- 1:28:04Speaker 5: it it's actually a fishing trip too, Like I'll fish
- 1:28:10Speaker 5: my way into a spot, camp hunt and fish my
- 1:28:15Speaker 5: way out the next day.
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: I've talked to a game more than about this, and
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: he where he winds up having trouble with people is
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: they'll do that and they'll get into a position where
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: he's like, there is no way they're retrieving that.
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: Game because they run onto private He's just.
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: Like, so you're telling me, and I want to make
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: sure that you we're talking about the same thing. You're
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: gonna get that in the water there and drag that
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: deer back up this river.
- 1:28:43Speaker 6: Oh when you just quoter it and walk it out.
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: That well, that's that's his That's what he expressed to me.
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: He clarifies with someone, I just want to be clear,
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: this is the plan. Yeah, when you get one, you're
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: gonna come the way he got out of it.
- 1:28:59Speaker 6: You'res as the whole way back to the truck.
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's his he says, I now, and they'll
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: see someone they like. They don't have any they haven't
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: thought through how they're gonna do this, And that's what
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: I clarify there.
- 1:29:11Speaker 5: There's also the same deal with floating because some of
- 1:29:16Speaker 5: these spots you can float in and technically you have
- 1:29:20Speaker 5: to be fishing too, even when you're floating to access
- 1:29:25Speaker 5: the ground. The ground.
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: This is what I've because your fishing trip turned into
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: a hunting trip. Fishy way down, they'll be like, oh wow,
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: I want to go up there and hunt for a minute.
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: So there's no law you can't like, is it? You're
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: not limited to archery equipment or something while you're finishing
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: to do with that. No, you just gotta have a
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: snoopy ride, take a cup of casts.
- 1:29:44Speaker 5: I mean a lot of areas, some areas in these
- 1:29:47Speaker 5: things are like weapons restricted, so you have to be
- 1:29:50Speaker 5: careful with that.
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: But but that's not but that's different thing that's totally unrelated.
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: All right, tails from the tour bus.
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: Right here.
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: Thanks everybody for joining Brent, Thanks coming out. How things
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: going with your show? Oh, really good, really good. It's
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: it's been such a joy.
- 1:30:08Speaker 3: And get a lot of I get a lot of
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: feedback from folks and just everybody's enjoying it. Met a
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: guy walked in the door up here, some guy that
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: works here. He's from originally from Mississippi. He's up here
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: working at the is it the Folly Theater the venue
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: for tonight and he's this country life man. I always
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: say he loves it. He said, he never misses it,
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: so gradually its good stuff. Thank you, it's good to hear.
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: Thank you for the platform. It's it's a lot of fun.
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: Thank you man. I appreciate it. All right.

- 1:30:39Speaker 1: get a tape measure, keep it with your trail keeping
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: your trail can.
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: Bag that would have come in hand. It with that hole.
