- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome on in as off the Edge the podcast and
- 0:08Speaker 1: me and your host Cam Jordan's and I'm officially jobless.
- 0:11Speaker 1: I'm in between contracts. I'm in between jobs. I don't know.
- 0:14Speaker 1: You know I still got you, you still got me
- 0:16Speaker 1: because we got off the Edge of the podcast. I'm
- 0:19Speaker 1: super excited to bring in who was a former teammate
- 0:22Speaker 1: of mine for a brief second. A guy who has
- 0:25Speaker 1: a Hall of Fame resume, A man who started off
- 0:29Speaker 1: with the Redskins, went to different Broncos, just to Saints
- 0:32Speaker 1: real quick. You know, a guy who had three first
- 0:35Speaker 1: team All Pro, shit for second team All Pro, twelve
- 0:38Speaker 1: Pro Bowls. It was an NFL interception leader, a corner
- 0:43Speaker 1: who spoke for himself. My god, Chimp.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Bailey, Cam, are we doing legendary?
- 0:51Speaker 1: I love I love bringing in former teammates.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Even though it was it was a camp, it was brief.
- 0:57Speaker 2: It's all good though. I had a great time.
- 0:59Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. Like we were just talking about it,
- 1:03Speaker 1: like you brought a veteran presence that we needed. Yeah,
- 1:07Speaker 1: Like I don't. I don't get it. Sometimes all coaches
- 1:11Speaker 1: sees like, oh, we gotta get younger when you have
- 1:13Speaker 1: veterans that have proven themselves timing time out well Pro Bowl. Yeah,
- 1:18Speaker 1: but when even if, even if you never touched the field,
- 1:20Speaker 1: you would have helped the entire corner room. I would
- 1:22Speaker 1: have paid just for the wisdom. Yeah, and this still
- 1:24Speaker 1: would let you play because if you can't play corner, fine,
- 1:27Speaker 1: go play safety real quick. You were calling plays out
- 1:30Speaker 1: in preseason games and I was like, Oh, he's real.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Where you're going to win?
- 1:34Speaker 3: Well, I'll tell you what, man, I was. I was
- 1:38Speaker 3: thirty six at the time. I was physically I had
- 1:42Speaker 3: I just couldn't keep going. I probably could have gave
- 1:44Speaker 3: you eight games, but.
- 1:48Speaker 1: The eight games would have corrowed all our young guys.
- 1:50Speaker 3: I'm with you, But if you're not a starter, you
- 1:53Speaker 3: know how it is. It's a numbers game. It's if
- 1:55Speaker 3: you're not a starter, you gotta play special teams, especially
- 1:58Speaker 3: at corner. And you know, damn well, I was not
- 2:01Speaker 3: playing special teams, so no, you don't.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yeah. So it was not at that point.
- 2:05Speaker 3: But at the same time, man, you know I was
- 2:09Speaker 3: when I when I look back, I'm happy of the
- 2:12Speaker 3: way it turned out because it would have been hell
- 2:15Speaker 3: trying to get through that season. And I just I
- 2:17Speaker 3: don't know if I was up for it, no doubt.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Look, I've seen some wild things in my time being
- 2:23Speaker 1: being in the lead for fifteen years. Twenty fourteen, we
- 2:26Speaker 1: in Virginia at training camp. You can roll through there
- 2:31Speaker 1: and I'm like, you know, Sean Payne, you say, what
- 2:33Speaker 1: does he say? We don't have to see it every day,
- 2:35Speaker 1: but you have to see it. And there was days
- 2:37Speaker 1: I saw it and I said, yeah, we got Champ Vailey.
- 2:40Speaker 1: And then it was somewhere in there preseason games going.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I saw you playing in the fourth preseason game and
- 2:47Speaker 1: I said, this is so damn disrespectful.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Well if you remember to walk up. I didn't play
- 2:53Speaker 2: in a couple because I hurt my foot. Yeah, that thing,
- 2:57Speaker 2: and then you know how it is. They just need
- 3:00Speaker 2: to get you back out there. Oh yeah, he's healthy,
- 3:02Speaker 2: cut right now. So you know how it is. You
- 3:06Speaker 2: gets your tape and they you know, you.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Don't know how it is. Well, you've seen guys go
- 3:11Speaker 1: through this.
- 3:12Speaker 2: You've seen guys.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Go through that.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Like you know, they'll they'll let you go in a heartbeat.
- 3:17Speaker 2: You know, once they get you out there, they prove
- 3:18Speaker 2: you healthy.
- 3:19Speaker 3: And I I almost feel like they had to dodge
- 3:21Speaker 3: that bullet, because if they kept me around.
- 3:23Speaker 2: As an injured guy, you just never know what.
- 3:27Speaker 1: They would have to pay me.
- 3:28Speaker 3: So so it's it's one of those things. And my
- 3:32Speaker 3: shoulder hurts and Miselda, you know, I could have played
- 3:34Speaker 3: played that game, but you know, I think, yeah, I'm
- 3:37Speaker 3: glad to wear it worked out because he did me
- 3:39Speaker 3: a favor. And you know what's crazy is now that
- 3:42Speaker 3: Sean Payton's in Denver, I see him all the time.
- 3:45Speaker 2: It's crazy. So it's just funny how things come full
- 3:48Speaker 2: circle in this game, man.
- 3:49Speaker 3: And I'm I have no regrets about going to New
- 3:53Speaker 3: Orleans and spending that few months that I was there,
- 3:56Speaker 3: and I got to meet you and see y'all boys,
- 3:58Speaker 3: do y'all thing and y'all prime, so it was all
- 4:01Speaker 3: worth it.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I'm upset I wasn't thinking, like as a year four
- 4:06Speaker 1: player about three year four players. I wasn't thinking farther
- 4:08Speaker 1: enough in the head, like when I started having like
- 4:10Speaker 1: legends of the games, touched the team whatever in whatever capacity.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I started getting their Saints style jerseys, you know, like
- 4:16Speaker 1: I probably want a few people that got the Brandon
- 4:18Speaker 1: Brandon Marshall.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Saints jersey Wow, Like I forgot about that.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Man. That's like if they touched it, like Adrian Peterson
- 4:25Speaker 1: got it, you know, des Bryant got it. Don't have
- 4:29Speaker 1: a dad gum, you know, if you got a Saints
- 4:31Speaker 1: Champ baby back there, you don't want that anyway. I do.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I do because you're legendary. But it hits better when
- 4:39Speaker 1: it's black and gold here. That's just you know, I'm
- 4:41Speaker 1: just that. I'm that through and through, like, yeah, maybe.
- 4:43Speaker 3: There's one out there because I don't have one either,
- 4:45Speaker 3: So we're in the same boat.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Maybe we can get some couple of kids made. Let's
- 4:49Speaker 2: do that.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Fact I could. I could work on that. You see,
- 4:53Speaker 1: you see the you see the terrain, the coaching terrain
- 4:56Speaker 1: as as as such in our NFL. We now have
- 4:59Speaker 1: what nine NFL coaching openings, you know, whether that's New York,
- 5:03Speaker 1: whether that's now the Steelers, the Ravens, the two newest
- 5:06Speaker 1: editions with Harball and and Tomlin out of there. What happened?
- 5:12Speaker 1: Like the loyalty the Steelers don't.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Part ways, They've never done. That's that's what's crazy. I think.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I think people need to understand, like the.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Steelers only had three coaches in the history of that franchise,
- 5:26Speaker 3: So you gotta think.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Tom stepped stepped down.
- 5:30Speaker 3: What does it look like for the next guy, Like,
- 5:33Speaker 3: I don't I don't know if they're gonna get that
- 5:35Speaker 3: same runway. And yeah, I think Tomlin has never had
- 5:38Speaker 3: a losing season all that time.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Hey, hey, appreciate you for taking the playoffs and they
- 5:44Speaker 1: never have a lose season. Color get out of here.
- 5:46Speaker 3: So what does it really take to stay in a
- 5:49Speaker 3: job like that?
- 5:50Speaker 2: I don't know. Now I'm understanding as I read the
- 5:53Speaker 2: fine print.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Yeah, he stepped down, but we all know that thing
- 5:56Speaker 3: had to be mutual because.
- 5:59Speaker 1: A mixable de punchure.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Now, if he goes and he's coaching somewhere else next year,
- 6:03Speaker 3: then we all know that he probably never wanted to
- 6:06Speaker 3: step down, So right, I could see him taking a
- 6:09Speaker 3: break if that's the case.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Oh my god, Peyton played that so well right, and
- 6:15Speaker 2: he played I mean, he.
- 6:20Speaker 1: I need to step away from the game TV for
- 6:23Speaker 1: coach through and through.
- 6:24Speaker 3: We all know that, right, So understanding where he is
- 6:28Speaker 3: even Harvar.
- 6:29Speaker 2: But you know, Harbor's departure was a little different.
- 6:32Speaker 3: But both these guys were at their program for over
- 6:35Speaker 3: fifteen years.
- 6:36Speaker 2: That's that's an eternity in this game.
- 6:39Speaker 3: And the power and the leverage that they have now
- 6:42Speaker 3: to further their career. I mean, it's at its peak.
- 6:46Speaker 3: And it's nice to be a free agent these days.
- 6:48Speaker 3: When they're throwing around twenty twenty five million for a
- 6:53Speaker 3: head coach.
- 6:54Speaker 2: It's ridiculous. It's ridiculous.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Absolutely. I was thinking players. I was like, it's nice
- 6:58Speaker 1: to be a young free agent right now. That's my bodies.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:01Speaker 1: If you sub you subbed thirty one.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Oh oh yeah, no matter what position.
- 7:06Speaker 3: If the money is out there, and it's it's so
- 7:09Speaker 3: astronomically higher than when I played.
- 7:13Speaker 1: It's unbelievab my rookie year. And it's it's small, it's small,
- 7:16Speaker 1: super small violins, right, my rookie year. I was like, Mama,
- 7:21Speaker 1: I made it. I made I Like, you wouldn't even
- 7:23Speaker 1: believe my rookie contract is, Mama, I'm making one thousand
- 7:25Speaker 1: dollars a day, every day of the year. Mama, my
- 7:29Speaker 1: big pay is three sixty five. I said, I went
- 7:32Speaker 1: for college scrapping. Hey, mom, let me like, let me
- 7:34Speaker 1: get a band and let pop let me get five hundred.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Do you know my older brother, a bro like let me,
- 7:39Speaker 1: let me get sixty off you. I'm fighting to pay rent.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I'm fighting to do all these I picked up a job,
- 7:44Speaker 1: these kids got an other. These kids it's rookie pay
- 7:48Speaker 1: scale north of.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Now it's ten thousand a day.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Dude. It's it's beyond unreal at this point.
- 7:58Speaker 3: And you know, I'm happy for him, even if college
- 8:00Speaker 3: kids that are making money, I'm happy that now everybody's
- 8:04Speaker 3: getting their due. I think college is a little different
- 8:07Speaker 3: because the pro structure is better collegees.
- 8:10Speaker 2: I mean it's wild, wild west right.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Now, West and yeah, yeah, and it's it's gonna be
- 8:15Speaker 3: like that until the growing ups really start acting like
- 8:18Speaker 3: grown ups and put some structure in place for these
- 8:21Speaker 3: kids and the coaches. I mean, it'll benefit everybody involved.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Are you even think there's making a better pro or
- 8:26Speaker 1: worse pro because at this point, now they got the
- 8:28Speaker 1: money to get the massage and the prehab, worry about school.
- 8:32Speaker 3: And like, it ain't about giving them money, it's the
- 8:35Speaker 3: structure around them moving around because a lot of times
- 8:39Speaker 3: they're they're think about it.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Let's just look at it this way. Who is advising them?
- 8:44Speaker 1: We don't know, nobody does so and you hope they
- 8:49Speaker 1: got good parents in the corner. And I hope that
- 8:51Speaker 1: they got to finance advisor.
- 8:52Speaker 3: And find out who your agent is right away and
- 8:55Speaker 3: who's advising you because your agent is vetted, it has
- 8:59Speaker 3: to be prosed by your NFL certified.
- 9:02Speaker 1: After Who's gonna create a college student union? That's tough.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I mean, it's already hard to unionize uh, thirty to
- 9:09Speaker 1: fifty three players by thirty two teams sixty nine players
- 9:12Speaker 1: with fresh squad players.
- 9:14Speaker 3: And if you are expecting you expect them to get
- 9:18Speaker 3: on the same page about unionize it, they're not going to.
- 9:21Speaker 3: So that structure has to come from the adults in
- 9:23Speaker 3: the room, like what are we doing? And that and
- 9:26Speaker 3: the lack of structure is allowing the state to continue
- 9:29Speaker 3: to be the way it is.
- 9:31Speaker 2: And who's benefiting Just look around, follow the money. I mean,
- 9:33Speaker 2: the coaches are.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Extremely beneficial from this process, and they move around.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Just as much as any universities c double A. They've
- 9:41Speaker 1: been beneficial, like all right, well now, like teach the
- 9:45Speaker 1: next generation on how to do things, and then they
- 9:47Speaker 1: could be a better structure for for the for the
- 9:50Speaker 1: foreseeable future.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Simple is that simple?
- 9:53Speaker 1: Oh takes me take me to you know, Uh, the Broncos.
- 9:58Speaker 1: How you feeling, you know, like I'm not. And if
- 10:01Speaker 1: you go to multiple teams, you clearly get to have favorites. Right,
- 10:05Speaker 1: So you got you got two sons, you got to
- 10:07Speaker 1: you got the you know, the Washington and you got Broncos.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Like Washington's out, so you don't have to worry about
- 10:14Speaker 1: them this year.
- 10:16Speaker 3: I mean, they both got in last year, so it
- 10:18Speaker 3: was a little tough. I mean, thank god they were
- 10:20Speaker 3: on opposite sides. But I do believe, you know, the Broncos,
- 10:24Speaker 3: I mean they sitting in a good spot, right.
- 10:26Speaker 2: You got home field.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Advantage, number number one seed, yeah, number one seed, great defense,
- 10:31Speaker 3: So they've done all the right things to get in
- 10:33Speaker 3: this position. I think if there's anything that gives me palls,
- 10:37Speaker 3: it's just a consistency.
- 10:39Speaker 2: From their offense. Like they haven't been consistent.
- 10:43Speaker 3: I think they'd be the first to tell you that's
- 10:45Speaker 3: something that they know they have to shore up before.
- 10:48Speaker 3: They could beat the Buffalo Bills next week, or they
- 10:52Speaker 3: could beat the team after that.
- 10:53Speaker 2: If they win this game, it's defense is only gonna
- 10:57Speaker 2: take you so far.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Defense wins championship.
- 11:01Speaker 2: The edge, you gotta have it.
- 11:02Speaker 1: But edge is a low Cooper, Benito. You talk about
- 11:06Speaker 1: Zach in the middle, Maroch in the middle, Passer Tain
- 11:09Speaker 1: on the corner, nasty work on.
- 11:12Speaker 3: The defense, got studs, and I believe they could be
- 11:15Speaker 3: the same have the same impact on the other side
- 11:17Speaker 3: of the ball.
- 11:18Speaker 2: It just needs to happen more consistently.
- 11:20Speaker 3: I love the girls from bow Knicks and what he's
- 11:22Speaker 3: been able to do in his his second year. So
- 11:25Speaker 3: just so just seeing you know what they're up against
- 11:29Speaker 3: and who they are. They're built to go deep in
- 11:32Speaker 3: the playoffs and possibly win the Super Bowl, Like I
- 11:36Speaker 3: feel like they could do it.
- 11:37Speaker 2: They just have to click right now.
- 11:39Speaker 3: It can't be relying on the defense this week and
- 11:43Speaker 3: hoping the offense shows up the next week. The offense
- 11:45Speaker 3: has to compliment the defense, and it has to happen consistently.
- 11:49Speaker 3: That's the only thing they missed most of the year.
- 11:52Speaker 3: They did it when they had to fourth quarter comebacks
- 11:54Speaker 3: all this stuff. That's great, you've been tested, but I
- 11:57Speaker 3: saw the same things sort of happened with my bull.
- 12:00Speaker 2: It's like we got to.
- 12:01Speaker 3: The point where that offense just wasn't clicking at the
- 12:03Speaker 3: right time, and it was just too late to hit
- 12:06Speaker 3: the switch and you saw that against the Jaguars late
- 12:09Speaker 3: in the season, right, So there's been evidence that that
- 12:13Speaker 3: could be the thing that kind of puts them behind
- 12:15Speaker 3: or at least causes them to lose a game. They
- 12:18Speaker 3: keep that thing on point, and they could definitely be
- 12:22Speaker 3: a Super Bowl champs again.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I'll say, you know you you look at no you
- 12:26Speaker 1: know you can stay in the a FC. Do you
- 12:28Speaker 1: see the Houston Texans game last night? If the offense
- 12:32Speaker 1: felt like they were trying to get they tried to
- 12:34Speaker 1: give it away to get. Defense was rolling man on everything.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I love. I said, look that said that's the best.
- 12:42Speaker 1: That's the best candlem uh defensive ends in the league
- 12:45Speaker 1: right there with Will Anderson. And you can make a
- 12:48Speaker 1: case for the corners to man.
- 12:52Speaker 3: My dog, my young dog, Kamar Lesseter is so underrated.
- 12:57Speaker 3: I mean, this dude is an animal in the corner
- 13:01Speaker 3: and you see you could just It's funny.
- 13:05Speaker 2: I met him before he left school, so it was
- 13:07Speaker 2: right before his last.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Year, and immediately in the first ten minutes of talking
- 13:12Speaker 3: to him, I'm like, Yeah, this kid's gonna be a
- 13:13Speaker 3: dog like he I just knew it, like just by
- 13:16Speaker 3: the way he was listening to me. The way we
- 13:19Speaker 3: were talking and he was giving me the feedback the
- 13:21Speaker 3: things he was talking about when we were working on
- 13:23Speaker 3: the little press covers we worked on in that little
- 13:25Speaker 3: time he was I was like, Okay, this kid here
- 13:29Speaker 3: gonna have a bright future, and I'd be he is.
- 13:33Speaker 3: I am in one of his biggest fans because he
- 13:36Speaker 3: does what he says he's gonna do, and you could
- 13:38Speaker 3: tell he's putting the work in.
- 13:40Speaker 2: And man, when I watched him, I'm like, yes, they
- 13:43Speaker 2: gets that mad boy. They cannot sleep on number fall.
- 13:46Speaker 3: On the other side, that dude is ready and he's
- 13:50Speaker 3: so consistent and I love watching him play.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Man.
- 13:55Speaker 1: I love how you keep dropping this consistent line. I'm
- 13:57Speaker 1: trying to tell people, I said, you know, everybody's surprised
- 14:00Speaker 1: about my longevity or at the level of play it.
- 14:03Speaker 1: So consistency is key. The things that we do when
- 14:05Speaker 1: we make it look routine, didn't start out routine, Nah, bro, Like,
- 14:11Speaker 1: ain't nobody tell me that I was going to be
- 14:12Speaker 1: one of the first ones to walk into the locker
- 14:14Speaker 1: room and I was going hot ub and I was
- 14:15Speaker 1: gonna take care of my body and I was gonna
- 14:16Speaker 1: do things the right way. I had to learn that,
- 14:19Speaker 1: but once it's learned, I don't give it back. Yeah,
- 14:20Speaker 1: I only improve the process.
- 14:22Speaker 3: You know, I could say this, I'm so glad I'm
- 14:25Speaker 3: talking to you because you're you're somebody fighting to get
- 14:29Speaker 3: to year sixteen.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I was doing the same thing, and.
- 14:32Speaker 3: I feel like what what disabled me from really going
- 14:36Speaker 3: further was my lack of preparation. And what I mean
- 14:40Speaker 3: is I couldn't practice the way I used to practice.
- 14:44Speaker 2: I couldn't work the way I used to work. I
- 14:47Speaker 2: didn't I.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Probably don't have half as much data and information about
- 14:50Speaker 3: what it takes to keep my body in shape as
- 14:52Speaker 3: you have right now, So.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Those things different.
- 14:57Speaker 3: How quickly I could decline or I did decline and
- 15:02Speaker 3: I'm not I'm not realizing it at the time, but
- 15:05Speaker 3: when I look back, I'm like, dang man, I miss
- 15:07Speaker 3: all those practices.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I hurt my foot my fifteenth year. I sat out
- 15:11Speaker 2: most of that year. I came back.
- 15:12Speaker 3: I was good for a short period of time, but
- 15:14Speaker 3: you always know that catches up. It always catches up
- 15:18Speaker 3: to you, that lack of preparation. Then I got to
- 15:20Speaker 3: New Orleans, I couldn't practice. But they do it in
- 15:24Speaker 3: the same breath, saying we're trying to save your body.
- 15:28Speaker 2: I'm like, no, man, I gotta work like you.
- 15:31Speaker 1: They stayed, They stay trying to be like yo, saving
- 15:33Speaker 1: your body for later, for what later? As much as
- 15:37Speaker 1: I've wanted, I've lived out my dreams.
- 15:39Speaker 2: This is my dream.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Will squeeze this dream dry? Like they'd be like, oh, well,
- 15:43Speaker 1: we're trying to prolong prolonged. Yeah, I have, I have loved,
- 15:48Speaker 1: I have lost, I have left.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Let for all those that are like year eight, nine, ten,
- 15:53Speaker 3: when you're approaching those double digit years, find ways to
- 15:57Speaker 3: continue to practice work and just take carry your body
- 16:00Speaker 3: a little more like it's that's really what it's gonna
- 16:03Speaker 3: take to you stay on top, don't.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I don't even believe in a days. I don't. I
- 16:07Speaker 1: didn't take no one direct off you learn.
- 16:10Speaker 2: I wish I never did.
- 16:11Speaker 3: I mean, some of it was caused by injury, but
- 16:13Speaker 3: even before that, I would get days off randomly, and
- 16:18Speaker 3: I would take them because I was tired at the time.
- 16:20Speaker 3: But in high sight, I'm like, man, all that stuff
- 16:23Speaker 3: added up to not working, which ultimately affected me on
- 16:27Speaker 3: some level.
- 16:27Speaker 2: So keep working, man, you gotta keep working.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Got to all right, let's go, let's go over the
- 16:34Speaker 1: you know the playoffs right now, you know, let's talk.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Let's talk about it. I just want to know your
- 16:38Speaker 1: remaining playoffs. Let's go game by game here, see see
- 16:40Speaker 1: what you think about the matchups? Right Divisional round, Bill's Broncos,
- 16:47Speaker 1: Bill's at Broncos.
- 16:49Speaker 2: I mean, they don't talk about this.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Come on, there's gonna be a year for Josh alla win.
- 16:54Speaker 1: It has to be this year, revenge season.
- 16:58Speaker 2: You know, I hear you, but I don't.
- 17:00Speaker 3: I'm not buying into this is their year because they
- 17:03Speaker 3: didn't prove it through the season.
- 17:05Speaker 1: And why didn't say it was their year?
- 17:07Speaker 2: I said it should be right.
- 17:10Speaker 3: Because all the monsters is out, that the Chiefs are out,
- 17:13Speaker 3: you know, everybody, they're all out. That the quarterbacks that
- 17:20Speaker 3: he's also had to deal with. But again, like here's
- 17:24Speaker 3: here's this monster of the Denver Broncos, this defense. There
- 17:30Speaker 3: is no way that he's looking forward to this one,
- 17:32Speaker 3: especially after putting them out last year.
- 17:34Speaker 2: So I know, I know they're ready for him this year.
- 17:38Speaker 2: So the best thing.
- 17:39Speaker 3: They got going for them is that guy behind Josh Allen,
- 17:42Speaker 3: and if they can find a way to get him going,
- 17:45Speaker 3: then they'll.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Give They'll give different problems.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Let cook let come if.
- 17:51Speaker 3: They and that the fact that they don't have that
- 17:54Speaker 3: type of defense that we've seen in the past that
- 17:58Speaker 3: Josh Allen has had.
- 17:59Speaker 2: I don't feel like their defense is as strong as
- 18:02Speaker 2: they've been.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Yeah, but they gotta figure it out against his Broncos
- 18:08Speaker 3: team because two weeks to prepare.
- 18:10Speaker 2: You know, Champagne's coming with it, so.
- 18:12Speaker 1: He's been for the last week and a half. He's
- 18:15Speaker 1: coming with You probably give the players, and you probably
- 18:17Speaker 1: give the players about four or five days off. Hey man,
- 18:19Speaker 1: y'all got up last week.
- 18:20Speaker 3: I got Yeah, so I was pretty scheduled last week.
- 18:25Speaker 3: And you know, I know they got like four or
- 18:26Speaker 3: five days off. They came back for the weekend. So
- 18:29Speaker 3: just understanding they've had their rest, should have drawing board.
- 18:33Speaker 3: And I'm looking forward to this one because, like you say,
- 18:37Speaker 3: if the year was if this was a year for
- 18:41Speaker 3: Josh Allen, I mean, if there was a year, this
- 18:43Speaker 3: is it like this, this is the moment that we're.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Gonna Yeah, we will keep calling them. You know, I
- 18:48Speaker 1: called him Andrew Love two point zero.
- 18:49Speaker 3: But that's why I love football so much, because year
- 18:53Speaker 3: the year, you have no idea who would have predicted
- 18:56Speaker 3: the Broncos and the Seahawks.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Be number one seas.
- 18:59Speaker 3: Nobody, nobody predicted that everybody had the utiful suspects.
- 19:04Speaker 2: So here we go.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Broncos got it, yep, then you got h What do
- 19:09Speaker 1: you got? You got Houston and Patriots?
- 19:10Speaker 3: Yeah, So Drake May did not look impressive to me, right,
- 19:17Speaker 3: so you got to win a win. Win their defense
- 19:21Speaker 3: though their defense is legit, I mean not giving up
- 19:24Speaker 3: a touchdown to high.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Caliber quarterback like Herbert.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Look, man, the sk with this team, well, they take
- 19:33Speaker 3: care of the football.
- 19:34Speaker 1: It just.
- 19:36Speaker 3: Drake made this didn't look comfortable all night playing that game.
- 19:40Speaker 2: So so for me, didn't look comfortable exactly. So defense
- 19:45Speaker 2: helped them overcome the problem.
- 19:48Speaker 3: So how often can you howten can you just lean
- 19:51Speaker 3: on the defense like that without complimenting them on some level?
- 19:54Speaker 3: And that didn't happen for the Patriots at least not enough.
- 19:58Speaker 3: They just they played a against a lesser team that
- 20:01Speaker 3: just couldn't keep up with them.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Now you're talking about the Texans.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Look, man, you ain't putting up twenty five thirty points
- 20:09Speaker 3: on these boys.
- 20:10Speaker 2: It ain't happening.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Get it, gonna go, get this where you're gonna find
- 20:15Speaker 1: your win, you gotta methodically place your show in the
- 20:17Speaker 1: right position.
- 20:18Speaker 3: So I do feel like both teams gotta figure out
- 20:21Speaker 3: how to get their young quarterbacks to play more consistently
- 20:24Speaker 3: and not put their defense in a bind because or
- 20:27Speaker 3: fields are not that that's not a recipe for wins.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Houston overcame it and overcame it because I feel like
- 20:35Speaker 3: the Steelers to me, had been frauds all year, like
- 20:37Speaker 3: for their division was just down.
- 20:40Speaker 2: They ended up sneaking out with the win of the division.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Great, but I just never felt like they were gonna
- 20:45Speaker 3: advance in the playoffs. And the Texans definitely tried to
- 20:47Speaker 3: give it to them, but you know, the better team won.
- 20:52Speaker 1: So I love to tea there were going nine or Seahawks.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Seahawks.
- 21:02Speaker 3: I'm not even gonna get into it. I like the Niners.
- 21:05Speaker 3: I just I just don't feel like they got.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Even The Niners are like that team that's one unit,
- 21:11Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, Like, yeah, on paper, they
- 21:13Speaker 1: look like they're they're not as advantageous as as anybody
- 21:17Speaker 1: they face, and yet they don't. They match up will
- 21:20Speaker 1: versus anybody because they play as a true team. Special
- 21:24Speaker 1: teams offense, defense. They are the well coordinated team that
- 21:28Speaker 1: you're like, damn, if we slip.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Up, you're gonna take a thing I like about him.
- 21:34Speaker 2: I like this.
- 21:34Speaker 3: I'm gonna tell you I said, I like the Seahawks,
- 21:36Speaker 3: But I'm gonna tell you why. I like the forty
- 21:38Speaker 3: nine ers as a team because they're finding success with
- 21:43Speaker 3: other guys like DeMarcus Robinson. Where the hell he come from?
- 21:46Speaker 2: Her? He I saw him play a couple of weeks ago.
- 21:50Speaker 3: He made a few plays, Okay, yeah, they usually spread
- 21:53Speaker 3: it out a little bit, and then he goes off
- 21:56Speaker 3: in the playoff game. I'm like, well, damn, what a
- 21:59Speaker 3: gennis get going? And we all know they got to
- 22:02Speaker 3: worry about CMC back there, Like so dealing with all
- 22:08Speaker 3: those facts, if they can now losing kittle kittles really
- 22:13Speaker 3: hurts hurts.
- 22:14Speaker 2: So they gotta.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Find production at that tight end position, because they'd love
- 22:18Speaker 3: to do a lot with the tight ends. If they
- 22:20Speaker 3: can find success with the guys that are really role players,
- 22:25Speaker 3: then I could see them getting to the Seahawks. But
- 22:28Speaker 3: the Seahawks just went to uh, San Francisco and beat
- 22:32Speaker 3: the dog that's out of them a couple of weeks ago,
- 22:35Speaker 3: and you know, I don't I don't feel like they're
- 22:38Speaker 3: gonna overcome that. They gotta go on the road to Seattle,
- 22:42Speaker 3: and that defense is another monster.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Marcus Lawrence Williams in the.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Middle, and their secondary is loaded with talent. I mean,
- 22:52Speaker 2: it's it's one of those teams.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Man. They surprised me, and I think that the thing
- 22:58Speaker 3: that they figured out is get assistant play from the quarterback.
- 23:02Speaker 3: And then Jasen is a whole other animal that emerged.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Out of nowhere.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Like we all knew he was talented, but damn, now
- 23:10Speaker 3: you're talking about him possibly being one of the best
- 23:13Speaker 3: in the league.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Nobody saw that coming.
- 23:15Speaker 3: So when you have young guys kind of overachieved for
- 23:19Speaker 3: your team, that's when success starts to happen.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I mean, and they got eat and you I said, damn,
- 23:27Speaker 1: you took you know, took our special teams, king dude.
- 23:30Speaker 1: And now he's looking King Lea again.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Yeah, they are loaded with talent, and that was just
- 23:35Speaker 2: the icing on the cake to see.
- 23:38Speaker 1: All right, what about rams Bears.
- 23:41Speaker 2: I don't think the Bears ready, you know, you know.
- 23:45Speaker 3: I didn't know if the Bears gonna be ready last absolutely,
- 23:48Speaker 3: did you know, what's funny is during that game, I'm
- 23:53Speaker 3: in a group text with a bunch of guys. I
- 23:55Speaker 3: haven't been a believer in Green Bay, so I'm not
- 23:58Speaker 3: surprised that they one the way they did.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Now, I do not I do not see the Bears
- 24:05Speaker 2: winning this game. I just.
- 24:08Speaker 1: The Rams.
- 24:09Speaker 2: The Rams are just a Williams in the back.
- 24:12Speaker 1: You go, you might. You got Matt Stafford wheeling and
- 24:14Speaker 1: dealing at the highest level, and who's gonna stop the cool.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Who's gonna stop him?
- 24:22Speaker 3: And yeah, it's they got weapons. And I've never seen
- 24:28Speaker 3: a quarterback so on point at this point in his
- 24:31Speaker 3: career than Matthew Staffords.
- 24:33Speaker 2: And the defense is the defense. We all know they
- 24:36Speaker 2: got a great defense too.
- 24:37Speaker 1: So Jared Verse, dude, man, you got Kobe Turner in
- 24:42Speaker 1: the middle. What like you got dogs, got the linebacker,
- 24:47Speaker 1: linebackers got there himself a new contract where he was,
- 24:50Speaker 1: I got the Rams.
- 24:51Speaker 2: So let's let's get in the conversation.
- 24:53Speaker 1: All right, we get in the conversation.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Winning super Bowl, and on I got I think I'm
- 24:59Speaker 3: a put the Rams in the Super Bowl, and I'm
- 25:03Speaker 3: gonna say they're gonna play.
- 25:05Speaker 2: And we're gonna get that four championship for my Broncos.
- 25:09Speaker 2: So we gotta get it, man, we gotta get it.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I mean, this is the year I got, I got friends,
- 25:13Speaker 1: I got, I got real friends and previous teammates that
- 25:16Speaker 1: I just root for. I want everybody to lose if
- 25:18Speaker 1: I'm on the couch.
- 25:19Speaker 3: But you know, when I was there in the preseason,
- 25:22Speaker 3: you know, just you have side conversations with Sean Payton,
- 25:25Speaker 3: He's gonna give you something, and he was like, yeah, man,
- 25:29Speaker 3: this is this is a super Bowl caliber team.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Like now he's not.
- 25:34Speaker 3: I'm like, okay, yeah, like you know, to be talking
- 25:37Speaker 3: like that in the preseason, yeah okay, but not even
- 25:41Speaker 3: the preseason.
- 25:42Speaker 2: This was early in the off season. He was like,
- 25:44Speaker 2: obviously we gotta go work, but we got the tools
- 25:48Speaker 2: to do it.
- 25:48Speaker 3: And I'm like, yeah, all right, and then oh it
- 25:53Speaker 3: just progressed from there.
- 25:55Speaker 2: I'm like, damn, okay, he said it. You know you
- 25:59Speaker 2: you don't.
- 26:00Speaker 3: I don't take those kind of comments lightly, because this
- 26:04Speaker 3: dude to seem more football than anybody.
- 26:08Speaker 2: And to know that.
- 26:09Speaker 3: You have that kind of talent around you or the
- 26:12Speaker 3: possibility of being that good, you gotta buy into it.
- 26:17Speaker 2: And you know how it is, man, you got to
- 26:19Speaker 2: go play the game.
- 26:20Speaker 3: But at the same time, man, there's so much good,
- 26:23Speaker 3: good football knowledge out there from guys like him that
- 26:27Speaker 3: I'm like, I don't ever take anything he says about
- 26:29Speaker 3: the game, like, because these dudes know the game, they've
- 26:33Speaker 3: been around it, they've been in these rooms, they've been.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Around great other great coaches.
- 26:37Speaker 3: So just knowing that, I'm like, Okay, so it gave
- 26:40Speaker 3: me confidence for my guys to go out there and
- 26:42Speaker 3: do what he said they were gonna do.
- 26:43Speaker 2: And they here, they are number one seed, here the path.
- 26:46Speaker 2: So let's see. Let's go play the game and see
- 26:48Speaker 2: what happens.
- 26:49Speaker 1: We'll be back in a minute. My question, how'd you
- 26:52Speaker 1: even leave that? Like maybe I'm just not old enough,
- 26:55Speaker 1: Like how'd you end up leaving Washington go to Denver?
- 26:57Speaker 1: I got get on to Denver, but I so you'll
- 27:00Speaker 1: be like, how does that happen?
- 27:01Speaker 3: You?
- 27:01Speaker 1: Like a cornerstone again? Okay, So let me give you
- 27:04Speaker 1: a pro pro bowler, all right, cornerstone of a franchise.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Right, I'll give you some contexts when I got drafted.
- 27:12Speaker 3: I was drafted by Charlie Casseman in nineteen ninety nine.
- 27:16Speaker 3: That summer of nineteen ninety nine, Dan Snyder bought the team.
- 27:20Speaker 2: So I was never one of his guys.
- 27:23Speaker 3: I was always from the old regime, even though I
- 27:27Speaker 3: started my rookie year as him being my owner. So
- 27:32Speaker 3: fast forward to the next year, they draft LeVar Arrington
- 27:36Speaker 3: and Chris Samuels number two and number three.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Fast forward a couple years later.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Both those dudes signed extensions before I signed mine or
- 27:46Speaker 3: before they offered me an extension. So when it was
- 27:49Speaker 3: time for me to sign my extension, and they waited
- 27:52Speaker 3: till my final year to try.
- 27:53Speaker 2: To resign me, they offered me nothing.
- 27:57Speaker 3: They didn't It was I wouldn't have been highest paid corner,
- 28:01Speaker 3: which I deserve to be at the time.
- 28:03Speaker 2: You know, I've been to four straight Pro Bowls. You
- 28:06Speaker 2: know I was all pro.
- 28:09Speaker 1: You're supposed to be.
- 28:10Speaker 3: I had done everything that you could possibly do on
- 28:12Speaker 3: the field to earn that paycheck. But I was I
- 28:17Speaker 3: remember I was never one of their guys, and that.
- 28:20Speaker 2: I don't know why.
- 28:21Speaker 3: That always carried weight with people like him, and fortunate
- 28:26Speaker 3: enough for me, I was franchised. So when they franchised me,
- 28:31Speaker 3: you gotta think I gotta sign my tag in order
- 28:34Speaker 3: for them to trade me.
- 28:35Speaker 2: So I was able to see the offers out there.
- 28:37Speaker 3: I had two offers on the table, one for Denver
- 28:40Speaker 3: and one for the Jets. The one for Denver was
- 28:43Speaker 3: for seven years, one for the Jets for six.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Years, and Denver basically offered me what I asked for.
- 28:53Speaker 3: So the offer that was on the table was what
- 28:55Speaker 3: I asked for from the from the Redskins. At the time,
- 28:59Speaker 3: Denver looked at and it was like, oh, no doubt,
- 29:01Speaker 3: we'll pay that.
- 29:02Speaker 2: I got to think.
- 29:05Speaker 3: At that point, I'm thinking I'm leaving money on the
- 29:06Speaker 3: table because they took the offer. When somebody just bikes
- 29:10Speaker 3: on the first try, Oh shit, I gotta throw some
- 29:14Speaker 3: more there.
- 29:14Speaker 2: I didn't do that, you know. I stuck to my guns,
- 29:17Speaker 2: you know.
- 29:18Speaker 3: So ultimately, once I knew the offer was what I
- 29:21Speaker 3: wanted it to be, I signed the franchise tag. They
- 29:24Speaker 3: traded me to Denver for Clinton Portis and a second
- 29:30Speaker 3: round pick. So when I got to Denver, Shanahan was like,
- 29:35Speaker 3: you know, I didn't think we would get the second
- 29:37Speaker 3: round pick, but I asked for it because a running
- 29:40Speaker 3: back is a little more glamorous position, right, and Clinton
- 29:43Speaker 3: Portis had Clinton Porters was falling, right, So I'm a
- 29:48Speaker 3: little upset that he's actually leaving the team. On one hand,
- 29:51Speaker 3: but at the same time, we got this second round
- 29:53Speaker 3: pick that we later used on Tatum Bell, who came in,
- 29:57Speaker 3: wore the same numbers Clinton, and actually had a good
- 30:00Speaker 3: couple of years with us before he was traded to Detroit.
- 30:03Speaker 3: But but long story short, man, that's that's why I
- 30:07Speaker 3: left Washington.
- 30:08Speaker 1: I was never we go to Denver and you elevated
- 30:11Speaker 1: your play even further with the all pro joints.
- 30:14Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 30:15Speaker 3: I was going to a franchise that was known for
- 30:17Speaker 3: getting the playoffs every year, great running scheme, always in
- 30:21Speaker 3: the playoffs, always a chance.
- 30:23Speaker 2: To win it. That's all I wanted. I just wanted
- 30:25Speaker 2: the chance to go win the title.
- 30:27Speaker 1: You got traded, So how did you How did you
- 30:29Speaker 1: elevate your play after the trade? Like you were already
- 30:31Speaker 1: a pro bowler? You you you into Denver, into the chat,
- 30:36Speaker 1: You're like, oh, I appreciate you, let me help, let
- 30:38Speaker 1: me go whole nothing.
- 30:40Speaker 3: So one thing you haven't experienced because you've been in
- 30:42Speaker 3: the same place. When you go to another team, people
- 30:46Speaker 3: look at you differently. Now I'm walking into this locker room,
- 30:49Speaker 3: the highest payed player on the team.
- 30:51Speaker 2: You know, I'm going into my sixth year.
- 30:53Speaker 3: I'm in the prime of my career, so all the
- 30:55Speaker 3: young guys are looking at me, and I've known nothing
- 30:59Speaker 3: but one thing.
- 31:00Speaker 2: It's the work.
- 31:01Speaker 3: Like I took practice seriously, and I think that's what
- 31:06Speaker 3: Shanahan really bought into. You know, at the time, they
- 31:10Speaker 3: were dealing with Peyton Manning and that that receiver Cord
- 31:17Speaker 3: they had been put out in the playoffs. He was
- 31:19Speaker 3: eating them up in the playoffs every year, so they
- 31:22Speaker 3: knew they needed a cover corner. But also Shanahan was
- 31:26Speaker 3: big about practice. He was like, I don't care what
- 31:29Speaker 3: happens on game day. Every day you step out on
- 31:31Speaker 3: that field, I want to see you practice hard.
- 31:34Speaker 2: I knew nothing different.
- 31:36Speaker 3: So when he would use my film and cut ups
- 31:39Speaker 3: to point to, oh, this is how you work. This
- 31:41Speaker 3: is and I'm like, damn, you know, he's always putting
- 31:44Speaker 3: me out there.
- 31:44Speaker 2: But it was what it was.
- 31:47Speaker 1: That's what I understand.
- 31:48Speaker 2: I didn't know any different, and it was it was
- 31:50Speaker 2: fortunate enough for me.
- 31:51Speaker 3: I had Rod Smith on the other who was just
- 31:53Speaker 3: like me, but he was an offensive player season that
- 31:57Speaker 3: so I was happy that I had somebody like.
- 32:00Speaker 2: That to lean on and really learn like.
- 32:01Speaker 3: He was the pros pro and he was always one
- 32:05Speaker 3: hundred percent attendance at workouts in the off season. So
- 32:08Speaker 3: I tried to just sort of follow that. So again,
- 32:13Speaker 3: I understand, I'm in my sixth year, say that a little.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Louder though, with one hundred attendance in the Ota Park, little.
- 32:20Speaker 2: A little louder every year.
- 32:22Speaker 1: That's that's the April May June workouts. That when it's
- 32:25Speaker 1: not like, man, like, I'm gonna be there, and then
- 32:27Speaker 1: they'll be there. Be there as a young player. Now
- 32:29Speaker 1: as a vent after you get your own little routine, sure,
- 32:32Speaker 1: but as a young player, and they'll be like, man, yeah,
- 32:34Speaker 1: I'm gonna be there, you know forty as a young player. Yeah,
- 32:38Speaker 1: you're two three four five six, bro, this is your
- 32:41Speaker 1: prime to take advantage of everything.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:44Speaker 3: I give him a lot of credit for one seeing
- 32:46Speaker 3: and appreciating the way I work, but also duplicating that
- 32:51Speaker 3: on the other side of the ball. So it kept
- 32:52Speaker 3: me competitive and also just kept me on top of
- 32:56Speaker 3: my game. And right I knew nothing thing else but
- 33:00Speaker 3: to work like So for me, it wasn't like I
- 33:03Speaker 3: had to figure out how to be a pro. I'm
- 33:05Speaker 3: just working and then the results are the results. I
- 33:08Speaker 3: don't care about that every day.
- 33:10Speaker 1: And as and as a corner bro, You're like you
- 33:12Speaker 1: really didn't miss tackles, like like you came to us
- 33:16Speaker 1: and I was like, I was like, man, I was like,
- 33:18Speaker 1: look like I was proud, oh or he ain't trying
- 33:19Speaker 1: to hit nobody and you was fire smacking cats.
- 33:22Speaker 2: I said, y'all, that was all pride standard, you know.
- 33:27Speaker 2: I was very proudful and making sure that I tackled.
- 33:30Speaker 3: I did everything, you know, because one thing about guys
- 33:34Speaker 3: I played with, like darn bring Deon Sanders, they were
- 33:37Speaker 3: known for not wanting to tackle, but they would tackle,
- 33:40Speaker 3: but they didn't want to do it.
- 33:42Speaker 2: I wanted people to believe I wanted to tackle. I
- 33:45Speaker 2: will tackle and it might hurt, you know, So.
- 33:48Speaker 3: I always and it was purposeful, like you know, I
- 33:53Speaker 3: didn't of course, I didn't like to run up on
- 33:55Speaker 3: these big boys, but if the opportunity presented itself, I'm
- 33:59Speaker 3: doing it. That's the way I was raised and how
- 34:02Speaker 3: how I just carried myself as I prepared to play
- 34:05Speaker 3: games like I'm gonna be completely.
- 34:08Speaker 1: There's more height than seeing a corner break early to
- 34:11Speaker 1: go for a tackle to the flat, make the make
- 34:14Speaker 1: it running backs. You know, ankles touch his ears just
- 34:17Speaker 1: so scorpious.
- 34:18Speaker 3: Down And that's what I that's what I love about
- 34:21Speaker 3: Kamar Lassiter when I brought him up, Like, yeah, it's
- 34:24Speaker 3: really the tackling.
- 34:25Speaker 2: It's like, dude, you gotta understand the attitude.
- 34:28Speaker 3: You gotta have to go up there and hit bigger
- 34:31Speaker 3: guys over and over again.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Everybody's bigger than us as corners.
- 34:35Speaker 3: So when you have to do that over and over again, man,
- 34:38Speaker 3: you gotta really take pride in that.
- 34:39Speaker 2: And it's and it's not easy. It's nice easy at all.
- 34:45Speaker 1: So especially not in today's game. Could you imagine you
- 34:47Speaker 1: got to pull in tackle or garden you're no longer
- 34:49Speaker 1: allowed to chop underneathrom.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Like I avoided a couple of those big guys,
- 34:54Speaker 3: but that was by design, like I always knew, like
- 34:57Speaker 3: I'm not about to run up.
- 34:59Speaker 2: I'll never forget. Garry Allen was pulling.
- 35:02Speaker 3: The great late Larry Allen was pulling around on the
- 35:05Speaker 3: reverse and I made a miss. The unfortunate part is
- 35:09Speaker 3: I missed the damn running back, and I was like, man,
- 35:11Speaker 3: I gotta.
- 35:11Speaker 2: Figure out the receiver.
- 35:15Speaker 3: I gotta figure out how to get to him without
- 35:18Speaker 3: hitting this big guy, and you can't really practice that.
- 35:23Speaker 3: I just kept watching it on tape. I was like, okay,
- 35:25Speaker 3: if I just jump outside, jump back in. And you
- 35:27Speaker 3: know who was really good at it was another one of.
- 35:30Speaker 2: My draft mates, Antoine Winfield.
- 35:32Speaker 3: He was really good at taking himself out of it
- 35:35Speaker 3: and then jumping back in it. Oh my god, yes,
- 35:37Speaker 3: senior right, And you know he was. He was special
- 35:41Speaker 3: in that way. So I tried to emulate a lot
- 35:44Speaker 3: of that. And you know, it happens maybe three times
- 35:48Speaker 3: a year, so it wasn't like it was a constant thing.
- 35:51Speaker 3: It was just every now and then there's a lineman
- 35:53Speaker 3: gonna run.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Up on you. What are you gonna do? Well?
- 35:57Speaker 3: For what, I'm not hitting it, So I gotta figure
- 36:00Speaker 3: out how to dodge him without taking myself out of
- 36:02Speaker 3: the play. And I mean I did a successful a
- 36:05Speaker 3: couple of times, but you know a lot of times
- 36:07Speaker 3: I just get out of the way and let the
- 36:09Speaker 3: big boys just come clean it up.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Right. No, the best way to the best way to
- 36:13Speaker 1: make that tackle is you you know what I'm saying.
- 36:15Speaker 1: But then again, I'm bigger. So I'm like, I'm going
- 36:16Speaker 1: through them.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Yeah, see that's you.
- 36:18Speaker 1: I meet him at the top.
- 36:19Speaker 3: You deal with these big boys all day every day.
- 36:22Speaker 3: When I see him, this foreign to me, Like what
- 36:24Speaker 3: in the hell do I do?
- 36:25Speaker 1: And he just every now again as a switch up.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Yeah for sure, Yeah, bro.
- 36:31Speaker 1: For sure. I mean you you were you were at
- 36:33Speaker 1: the Broncos for a number of years for Peyton entered
- 36:35Speaker 1: entered over to the Broncos. And once he did, you know,
- 36:38Speaker 1: you guys go thirteen to three the first season, thirty
- 36:41Speaker 1: three the second season, go to the super Bowl. You know,
- 36:44Speaker 1: like that's a fair tale story.
- 36:47Speaker 3: It sort of is until we lost in the Super
- 36:49Speaker 3: Bowl and then you know, it is what it is
- 36:53Speaker 3: at that point. But but I remember, you know when
- 36:57Speaker 3: he did come, it was right after t Bow and
- 37:00Speaker 3: this was right I think it was Lway's second year
- 37:03Speaker 3: because always first year we had t Bow. You know,
- 37:06Speaker 3: we had the playoff game where he threw the past
- 37:09Speaker 3: of DT in overtime and all this, so a lot
- 37:12Speaker 3: of great hoopla that year. But Lways he's a traditional quarterback, right,
- 37:18Speaker 3: so he wanted a traditional.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Quarterback immediately immediately when it got Payton, I'm like, yeah,
- 37:27Speaker 2: now I could go win my championship.
- 37:28Speaker 3: We obviously came up short, but it was a great
- 37:32Speaker 3: experience because it sort of reinvigorated my career at a
- 37:37Speaker 3: time where I knew I was on the back end,
- 37:40Speaker 3: like I could feel it, but when he came in
- 37:42Speaker 3: in twenty twelve, it just kind of ignited something and
- 37:46Speaker 3: I made the Pro Bowl that year, I got hurt
- 37:48Speaker 3: the next year, and then I ended up leaving the
- 37:50Speaker 3: following year. It was it's just an unfortunate quick decline
- 37:54Speaker 3: from me because of my health and obviously my age.
- 37:58Speaker 3: But it was a great experience to see him be
- 38:02Speaker 3: a leader that he was because everything that was talked
- 38:04Speaker 3: about before he got there, I mean it was by
- 38:07Speaker 3: the book.
- 38:08Speaker 1: To you go to practice and you it ain't known
- 38:10Speaker 1: iron sharp and iron you. Oh, this is one of
- 38:12Speaker 1: the greatest of all times. Yeah, I gotta be on
- 38:14Speaker 1: I gotta be on ten.
- 38:16Speaker 3: And it was good to see him prepare and practice
- 38:20Speaker 3: the way I want my teammates to practice. And that's
- 38:24Speaker 3: really why they ended up winning the championship later, because
- 38:28Speaker 3: he just instilled so many high level qualities in the
- 38:31Speaker 3: office that just resonated and carried over to that Super
- 38:34Speaker 3: Bowl year when they wanted in twenty fifteen.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Right, I'll say a few years later they win that thing.
- 38:41Speaker 1: It's just the legendary for the Broncos. I mean, does
- 38:45Speaker 1: it bother you that much that you were a part
- 38:46Speaker 1: of that that that two.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Bowl in Not really, you know, I think.
- 38:54Speaker 3: I think my story was just my story, and you know,
- 38:57Speaker 3: my journey was my journey.
- 38:58Speaker 2: And I never get caught up in it.
- 39:00Speaker 3: I think at at the time, I was so connected
- 39:03Speaker 3: to so many guys on the team. A lot of
- 39:05Speaker 3: them were calling me after the fact, and I was
- 39:07Speaker 3: calling them and congratulating.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Them, and I was still connected to the team. I
- 39:12Speaker 2: felt like I was a part of it.
- 39:13Speaker 1: And on some level at that point, you just gonna
- 39:15Speaker 1: be a QC man. Yeah, like keep buy behind the lines,
- 39:18Speaker 1: right man, you know right.
- 39:19Speaker 2: But nobody offered me those jobs.
- 39:21Speaker 3: Nobody even offered me to play safety, And maybe I
- 39:23Speaker 3: should have just demanded it, but you know, I was,
- 39:25Speaker 3: I was at the back end of my career anyway,
- 39:28Speaker 3: So I'm I'm actually happy that I played all my
- 39:31Speaker 3: fifteen years at corner at corner and I did it
- 39:34Speaker 3: at a high level. So I'm proud of that. But
- 39:38Speaker 3: in highsight, No I have I have no regrets. I'm
- 39:42Speaker 3: just happy that I'm a part of a franchise that
- 39:44Speaker 3: appreciates people like me to this day and you know,
- 39:48Speaker 3: anything that they win, I feel like I'm a part
- 39:50Speaker 3: of absolutely.
- 39:53Speaker 1: That's like I said Rare Air, we talked about you know,
- 39:58Speaker 1: we were we were thirty when you retired. I just
- 40:00Speaker 1: had my I was thirty six. I am thirty six
- 40:04Speaker 1: this year and I'm over here loving practice. I'm like,
- 40:07Speaker 1: it's crazy to think the late like the later season
- 40:10Speaker 1: you got, you saw like, you know, guys like man, man,
- 40:13Speaker 1: I'm sore, gee like I brom banged up.
- 40:15Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, so tell, I do have a question.
- 40:21Speaker 3: I got a question for you though, because I'm Peyton
- 40:24Speaker 3: was one way and I don't think.
- 40:26Speaker 2: There's anybody like him, right, What was it?
- 40:29Speaker 4: Like you you saw our condition chests crazy doing participating CrossFit,
- 40:37Speaker 4: but I saw nobody an't nobody messing with that?
- 40:39Speaker 1: And now he's all like I'm calling my boys over dinner,
- 40:42Speaker 1: like yo, what's conditioning? Like He's like, na, we sort
- 40:44Speaker 1: of just you know, we paid atention to the metrics and.
- 40:46Speaker 2: That it was unnecessary.
- 40:48Speaker 3: Bro.
- 40:48Speaker 1: Yeah, we were the we were the older child. You
- 40:50Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Like you know how you your
- 40:52Speaker 1: parents have an older child, we go through jail and
- 40:56Speaker 1: high water, and then you have that last child and
- 40:59Speaker 1: they loved going it like you like he ain't got
- 41:03Speaker 1: a curvefield, he ain't got to do rolles, but they
- 41:07Speaker 1: get some of the process. That's that's what differ is
- 41:09Speaker 1: right now, you know what I'm saying, They can all
- 41:11Speaker 1: the good without all the trials and tribulations. Like he's
- 41:14Speaker 1: already find out his cultivated techniques of what it is now.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Like the game when he first started was you know,
- 41:22Speaker 1: it was two a days, was those grinder you know,
- 41:24Speaker 1: practice hit in the morning and hit at night. And
- 41:27Speaker 1: then by the time I got there, it was just
- 41:28Speaker 1: like hit in the morning and I walk through. But
- 41:30Speaker 1: it felt like we were still practicing. And now it's
- 41:33Speaker 1: like a pure like hey, dial back practice and then
- 41:36Speaker 1: like hey, we'll take care of you.
- 41:38Speaker 3: Yeah man, yeah, it's good for them. I guess he's
- 41:42Speaker 3: drown up.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Stay tuned, we'll be right back. Tell me about your movie, man,
- 41:48Speaker 1: like I heard about it this week. Yeah, we're here
- 41:52Speaker 1: to push your movie. That I got out excited because
- 41:54Speaker 1: the kid in me was like, damn, this is champ.
- 41:56Speaker 1: He was a part of my team and I got
- 41:58Speaker 1: to see gradies.
- 41:59Speaker 3: But about your movie, man, well, the movie is called
- 42:02Speaker 3: Signing Tony Raymond and advice.
- 42:06Speaker 2: You know what, it's a few things.
- 42:08Speaker 3: One, don't pull up to Tony's house if it's Stepdad's
- 42:13Speaker 3: knocked there.
- 42:14Speaker 2: You get there and it's just mama. Ain't no telling
- 42:17Speaker 2: him what you're gonna find. That should be back in
- 42:21Speaker 2: that now.
- 42:23Speaker 3: It's about this high school coach that has to he
- 42:27Speaker 3: has to find a way to sign this five star athlete,
- 42:30Speaker 3: Tony Raymond, and he's jumping through all these obstacles, dealing
- 42:34Speaker 3: with family. But in order to save his job, he
- 42:37Speaker 3: got to sign his kid. So it takes place in
- 42:41Speaker 3: rural Alabama.
- 42:43Speaker 2: It was all.
- 42:44Speaker 3: Filmed here in Georgia, Georgia Investors, everything, everything about it
- 42:49Speaker 3: is Georgia Brown.
- 42:50Speaker 2: But for the story, it takes.
- 42:55Speaker 3: Place in rural Alabama and the moment he shows up,
- 43:00Speaker 3: he's just dealing with the family. The mama is a
- 43:02Speaker 3: little wacky. Stepdad is, you know, trying to manipulate him
- 43:06Speaker 3: for the money.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Bag man come bring him from.
- 43:09Speaker 3: You know, it's just a lot of a lot of
- 43:12Speaker 3: what we saw when we were recruited back in the
- 43:14Speaker 3: day before n I l but then also the idea
- 43:19Speaker 3: of nil and what it means.
- 43:20Speaker 2: So it's a really good story. And it's more.
- 43:24Speaker 3: The thing is, some of these things will resonate with
- 43:26Speaker 3: you because you probably dealt with it as a as
- 43:29Speaker 3: a high school athlete, right.
- 43:30Speaker 1: I'll say with you, because you were you were like
- 43:32Speaker 1: a five star prospect. You know, you want to drop
- 43:35Speaker 1: his bag off here in the front the front, brother
- 43:38Speaker 1: to the side. So as a free star prospect, I
- 43:41Speaker 1: didn't have that.
- 43:42Speaker 3: So but what but what I love about it and
- 43:45Speaker 3: what what really made me buy into it was it
- 43:48Speaker 3: it just wasn't just about the game, because there's really
- 43:51Speaker 3: no football highlights in the movie or football like, it's
- 43:56Speaker 3: really no football stuff on family Like, it's all about
- 43:59Speaker 3: the story behind the scenes and what's going on trying
- 44:01Speaker 3: to sign this kid and all the things that this
- 44:03Speaker 3: recruiter is trying to to do to get this kid
- 44:07Speaker 3: to sign with his school.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Now, the talent that we have in this movie.
- 44:13Speaker 3: Mirro Sorbino Academy Award winner Rob Morgan, I mean, another
- 44:16Speaker 3: acclaimed actor, Michael Mosley, I mean our lead character and
- 44:23Speaker 3: Jackie k who plays Tony Raymond. But we also got
- 44:25Speaker 3: Marshawn Lynch in the movie like it ain't getting no call.
- 44:31Speaker 2: So the next one you number one on the list, Yes,
- 44:34Speaker 2: so I got.
- 44:35Speaker 3: I got a cameo from Tequillo Spikes, Charles Woodson, Richard Sherman,
- 44:40Speaker 3: you know, Jesse Palmer, Harry Douglas and the Boses.
- 44:44Speaker 2: In the movie. Brian Bosworth in the movie Out There
- 44:49Speaker 2: printers on T shirts. He is well.
- 44:52Speaker 3: First of all, when I went to Austin, Texas for
- 44:55Speaker 3: the film festival, he lives in Austin out of all
- 44:58Speaker 3: places being in Oklahoma soon. Uh so I never understood that,
- 45:02Speaker 3: but you know, he said he loves it there. But
- 45:05Speaker 3: we're there and we're talking, we're doing this thing. I
- 45:07Speaker 3: did this one hundred yards with Champ. It's more like
- 45:09Speaker 3: a walk and talk and one of the best people
- 45:13Speaker 3: I've been around.
- 45:14Speaker 2: You know, filming this movie.
- 45:15Speaker 1: So one I got said film in this movie, Like,
- 45:18Speaker 1: how how deeply involved were you? I was like, Georgia
- 45:22Speaker 1: grown It sounded like you was an e p P.
- 45:24Speaker 3: I was. I was executive. I was an executive producer.
- 45:28Speaker 3: I helped get some of the talent. Obviously, all the
- 45:30Speaker 3: guys I named, you know, I helped bring them to
- 45:32Speaker 3: the table, and they.
- 45:34Speaker 1: All these texts.
- 45:35Speaker 2: They all didn't need a favor.
- 45:36Speaker 3: Like it was, you know, I'm I'm just happy that
- 45:38Speaker 3: they obliged. Man, it was I got to give them credit.
- 45:42Speaker 3: Without them, I don't think it'd be as special as
- 45:44Speaker 3: it is. But when they said action and cut.
- 45:48Speaker 2: I had nothing to do with that. I was not.
- 45:52Speaker 1: I was not.
- 45:53Speaker 2: The writer director is Glenn Owen.
- 45:55Speaker 3: He used to play basketball at Georgia, but he's been
- 45:57Speaker 3: in the filmmaking business for years, so this is his
- 46:00Speaker 3: biggest feature film as well. He's worked on smaller projects
- 46:05Speaker 3: and we all had mutual connections, and that's how I
- 46:07Speaker 3: got to the film. I knew I had to have
- 46:11Speaker 3: real experts running this thing, becauseg this thing has been
- 46:14Speaker 3: three years in the making now. He wrote the script
- 46:17Speaker 3: maybe ten twelve years ago, right, updated it as he went.
- 46:22Speaker 3: But I came on board about three years ago. And
- 46:25Speaker 3: that's why now I'm so excited about it because it's
- 46:29Speaker 3: actually released this Friday, January sixteenth, and this is the
- 46:33Speaker 3: first time I've ever done anything like this. I'm but
- 46:36Speaker 3: you know how it is, man, We don't walk into
- 46:39Speaker 3: rooms pretending we know everything.
- 46:41Speaker 2: You let the experts be the experts.
- 46:43Speaker 3: You play your role. So I just played my role
- 46:46Speaker 3: whatever they asked of me. That meant they thought I
- 46:48Speaker 3: could do it. So this when out step in, So
- 46:51Speaker 3: I didn't have a lot of a lot to do
- 46:55Speaker 3: with the actual filming. But you know, getting people together,
- 46:58Speaker 3: the investors.
- 46:59Speaker 1: All the relationships.
- 47:00Speaker 3: Guy, pull things together and now here I am talking
- 47:05Speaker 3: about it and it's a finished product. So it's it's
- 47:09Speaker 3: one of those films, man, anybody can watch it. I mean,
- 47:12Speaker 3: I think it's PG. Thirteen, So it's a good family,
- 47:15Speaker 3: family movie. And I think who were to resonate with
- 47:18Speaker 3: most it's moms that are dealing with this, because there's
- 47:22Speaker 3: a lot of single moms out there dealing with their
- 47:24Speaker 3: kid being recruited and.
- 47:26Speaker 2: How to deal with it.
- 47:27Speaker 3: And ultimately you will see the story go to the
- 47:30Speaker 3: part where it's not about the money, it's not about
- 47:34Speaker 3: anything except the relationships and really just taking advantage of
- 47:38Speaker 3: the space you're in and also being nurtured and people
- 47:41Speaker 3: caring about what you are into. That'll make sense when
- 47:44Speaker 3: you watch it. But yeah, man, it's a great movie.
- 47:47Speaker 3: Everybody that's watched it say, I was surprised by the
- 47:50Speaker 3: comedy but also by the story.
- 47:53Speaker 2: It just it's one of those that it'll tug on
- 47:56Speaker 2: those strings a little bit more than you would expect.
