- 0:01And there's another lie when you just say you start off when you
- 0:05are talking to a rabbi or reading the Seth.
- 0:08Even if they don't quote you something, they don't give you
- 0:12the source. What they are doing usually if
- 0:15they're, you know, if they're genuine, if they really know
- 0:19what they're doing is they're giving you Torah and different
- 0:23source. That's always how it is.
- 0:25They might always know the Pisakima.
- 0:26They better know exactly where their source is from, but their
- 0:29mind eventually becomes like a turn up, I don't know,
- 0:32wellspring. And they combine it with their
- 0:34own thoughts and stuff like that and it comes out.
- 0:37That's what the Rabbin's letter is.
- 0:38It's his whole approach. I mean, he was a man who was a
- 0:42reassuring revention many times and he was one of the most
- 0:45famous Rishonim. And people learn to Shiva.
- 0:48They learned that I'm banned to shed on ban and they go on it
- 0:51for hours or they learn every week Prasha that I'm banned is
- 0:55considered one of the top few explanations his Rashi and then
- 0:59I'm buying comments on Rashi. It's how it works.
- 1:01So he's unbelievable with his knowledge of today.
- 1:03It's on the out of this world. And because of that, the the
- 1:07simplicity of this letter and the fact that it seems like such
- 1:10a basic idea of how a person should treat another person, how
- 1:13to act, how to carry yourself with Ramba is telling his son.
- 1:17It's unique in its simplicity, but it's really backed up by the
- 1:21whole Shahs, the whole Tanah, his knowledge of Omidashim, his
- 1:27knowledge of everything. And he's giving you this letter.
- 1:30Sometimes what he's giving you is the entire world's knowledge
- 1:35produced in the letter, right? An amount of the example that if
- 1:39you like this amount of the example, it's the equivalent of
- 1:42if AI would be told, give me a letter, right?
- 1:45But AI is not backed up by Torah.
- 1:47It's backed up by a lot of information here.
- 1:50It's backed up same idea, it's backed up by Torah.
- 1:54So with the rabbi wrote, is a very simple seeming letter to a
- 1:59very obviously deep concept, which is how a person should
- 2:03carry themselves, how he should act toward others.
- 2:06He gives you simplicity. Be be.
- 2:08I'll be humble. Put your head down.
- 2:11Give everyone respect all these different examples.
- 2:13What was really telling you is the entire tada, the entire
- 2:16thing Is it a produces it produces a nice simple seeming
- 2:20person. And deep down that person is
- 2:23built on layer of the layer of the layer of Torah, of knowledge
- 2:27of, you know, you could absolutely quote yeah, Torah you
- 2:31have you have Gemara, you have the Mishnah, you have Kabbalah.
- 2:36So much information turns out to be a good guy is very simple.
- 2:41It's based on a lot of deep information.
- 2:43But to be a fine person requires that you are to my face in a
- 2:48room with regular people, a fine person.
- 2:51It doesn't require to give me. You can't be a deep guy.
- 2:55I'd be a bad guy. You got to be a simple good
- 2:58person. Let's just tell you another TV.
- 2:59Next example, he says. I have been telling us last week
- 3:04the need for a person to analyze the actions every morning, every
- 3:07night, we discuss the basic concept of inventory.
- 3:12Have you run any business, Literally any business, no
- 3:14matter what it is, looking things over all the time can
- 3:18save you thousands and millions of dollars.
- 3:21Whatever it is, it could save you so much money.
- 3:24Just looking these over, reviewing, checking to see any
- 3:27mistakes, checking to see if not selling your certain item,
- 3:30whatever it may be, inventory if you call that, or reviewing the
- 3:34books or look at these over can make a world of a difference.
- 3:38So he says once a person gets used checking themselves and
- 3:43analyzing in this way, reflecting every morning and
- 3:46every night. And you say, sounds like it's so
- 3:49frequent. Why every morning, every night?
- 3:51So he said very simply is that all of us by now are good people
- 3:55in general, but we have many moments where we make mistakes.
- 4:00So as I go hand in hand, how could a good guy make so many
- 4:02mistakes? So the simple shot is, is that
- 4:05you're a good person when your mind is on your head, but when
- 4:08you are hard and your, your emotions get the best of you or
- 4:12you're not yourself, you're tired.
- 4:15Remember, maybe I remember when I was a kid, my mother used to
- 4:17always ever got to any sort of mood where it'd be upset,
- 4:22crying, fighting, whatever it was always say, oh, you're
- 4:25tired, you're tired, you're tired.
- 4:26I do it to my kids now all the time.
- 4:28You're tired, you're tired. I, I get used to get so nervous.
- 4:30I'm not tired, I'm upset. Father, write everything.
- 4:33Did your father write everything he did?
- 4:35He wasn't busy with this stuff. My mother had her own angle.
- 4:37My father would never handle any of these things at all.
- 4:39So I'm saying that every night he used to go over his day, if I
- 4:42used to do this, he gets what he gave him about it says true how
- 4:45he's born in this issue where every single night he wrote it
- 4:48down his simplest, smallest things.
- 4:51And I was after I saw that only after he passed away with Mitch,
- 4:55I believe that's probably where I finally got I worked on his
- 4:58character so much was because what happens is the more you
- 5:02analyze, let's go to that point. The second the more you start to
- 5:05account analyze. Here's what happens.
- 5:09You start to get better and better because if you look at
- 5:13things every single day, what happens?
- 5:15I did say you review, you do inventory once and you do it
- 5:19again. So the first time you look over
- 5:21the general things you do. The second time you start
- 5:23getting opportunity to look at the details, 1/3 time you look
- 5:28at the details and more and more and more and over time you start
- 5:31to look at, if you're analyzing constantly, you start to look at
- 5:34the finest, most detailed things.
- 5:37That's how it works. I'll give you example in the
- 5:39shoe, when the shoe is a mess after let's say a cardio,
- 5:42something like that. So the first move is just clean
- 5:46the basics, just carry, you know, just mop, whatever.
- 5:48Just put the books in the bookshop, right?
- 5:50Let the book go. Now just put them in the
- 5:51bookshop. But then in the middle of that's
- 5:54a Sunday, right, you have the Shabbat where they probably set
- 5:56up to the Kedushi, just dump everything in the bookshop in
- 5:59the middle of the week. The goal and the hope is after
- 6:02you did the basic, now you get an opportunity to review it
- 6:05again. And now you can put the right
- 6:07books, the right shelves, right, the right spots.
- 6:10And the same thing is true with character.
- 6:12If you do this reviewing the actions once in a blue moon,
- 6:16you'll, you know, stop yourself from becoming a disaster.
- 6:18That's great. But if you do it all the time,
- 6:21then you start getting used to key every few may, every few
- 6:24hours or a few days, whatever they be, you reflect.
- 6:27If you're constantly a reflector, become a better and
- 6:31better person. That's all I need.
- 6:33Yeah, that's all you need. Because the more you reflect and
- 6:35what you think, apply it to your life.
- 6:38And as we've said many times, we all have a good enough
- 6:40upbringing and good enough Torah and good enough surroundings to,
- 6:45with that basic level of reflection, become a very, very
- 6:49good person. That's all we need.
- 6:50Reflect your reflection all the time.
- 6:53Why do you need reflection? Why can't you be a better person
- 6:55in the moment? Because the moment, like we said
- 6:57before I was saying retired. The moment includes so many
- 7:01other components. Can be nervous, you can be
- 7:03tired, you can be upset, you can be frustrated, you can be not in
- 7:07the mood. There are 1000 different
- 7:09moments, feelings, and those are all feelings and those all do
- 7:13not give you the chance to use your mind.
- 7:16Boy, you reflect. You have none of those.
- 7:19You're not reflecting while you're tired.
- 7:20You're not reflecting while you're sad.
- 7:21You're not reflecting while you're upset.
- 7:23You're reflecting while you're angry.
- 7:24You're not reflecting while you're, you know, in a
- 7:26downstate. You're reflecting in a normal
- 7:28clear mind. So you have the opportunity to
- 7:31see things what they are. How many thousands of times how
- 7:35we had a conversation and then walked away and said, I
- 7:37shouldn't have said that, but you said it.
- 7:40Why? Because in the moment you were
- 7:42in the moment afterwards you have the opportunity of
- 7:44reflection. How many off color jokes are you
- 7:48and I witnessed in our life off color, not funny, not smart and
- 7:52just destructive jokes. Are you say to yourself, what's
- 7:55the guy thinking like what's what's, what's what's the end
- 7:58game over here? What's his goal?
- 7:59Where's the positive? Maybe he'll get a chocolate.
- 8:02Maybe no one thinks he's smart. No one's going to be impressed
- 8:05by him. He's probably going to hurt
- 8:07somebody. Where's the goal here, right?
- 8:10He wants to totalize. Not a comedian.
- 8:11It's not his business. But people do it, time it again,
- 8:15and they do it all the time. And you stop, you say.
- 8:17So if this guy would only just stop and tell them something, it
- 8:20ain't working, it's not helping, it's only destructive.
- 8:23But in the moment, he does it. He does.
- 8:25He does it. He's a good guy.
- 8:26That's after the moment. In the moment, he's frozen and
- 8:30he's in that mood, He's in that feeling, and he makes such
- 8:32mistakes. But the more you apply
- 8:35reflection of me, the more you apply clarity.
- 8:40And therefore, the next time you come to that moment, you have in
- 8:42your mind a little bit of a stopper saying not really worth
- 8:46it to say that comment. This time I realized it didn't
- 8:48get me anywhere. Didn't really help me.
- 8:50Even if I'm angry. Hey, man, I should hold myself
- 8:52back from reactor right now. Yeah, I want to gossip.
- 8:54Maybe I shouldn't say that piece of secret information talking to
- 8:57help me. All those junior, all those
- 8:59things are clearer and more developed the more you reflect.
- 9:04And then he says the next step is teshuva.
- 9:08Teshuva is repentance. Repentance is a heavy word.
- 9:13How often do people do to Shuva? I mean, we know every once a
- 9:18year and at the end of their life maybe, right?
- 9:21Not all the time. He says that that's the truth.
- 9:25The truth is that a good guy is repenting all the time.
- 9:30Not heavy duty. Huh?
- 9:32We do it every day. We do not every day.
- 9:34We say we do it every day. Exactly.
- 9:36Ubaze, you call your mecha. But to Shuva with the mindset of
- 9:41reflection, all your days will be with repentance.
- 9:45What does that mean? You're panting every day.
- 9:47Who's repenting every day? I mean, he's telling me David
- 9:49Wright and to feel out. We do it, correct.
- 9:51But who's a heavy? It's a heavy statement.
- 9:52It's not a heavy statement. Regret.
- 9:56Do you like the feeling of regret?
- 9:58I like it. Nobody does.
- 10:00Nobody likes the feeling of regret.
- 10:02No, a regret happens to be a feeling that in America today
- 10:06they tell you no regrets to the classic term, no regrets as if
- 10:10you can make all sorts of mistakes and you made a bad
- 10:13business decision, but no regrets.
- 10:14Why no regrets? The reason why they say no
- 10:16regrets because no one can live with regrets because wasn't
- 10:19going to get me. It's not going to get me
- 10:21anywhere. If I regret making that business
- 10:23decision or saying that comment, you know, it didn't work out.
- 10:27Yeah, I changed team pool player.
- 10:29I changed teams. We didn't work out.
- 10:31We went to, you know, we went from the championship team to,
- 10:34you know, a New York football team.
- 10:36But no regrets, right? Why no regrets?
- 10:39Why do you have any regrets? You let have a regret.
- 10:42So the truth is, is an American term because people do not like
- 10:45feeling guilty. Guilty is a feeling and drives
- 10:48people Batty. Times are crazy.
- 10:51Who wants to feel guilty? One of the reasons you don't
- 10:53want to feel guilty is because you really can't do anything
- 10:55about it. You feel guilty now.
- 10:58It was a mistake. Was a mistake in that time or
- 11:02that loss. You say I'm sorry you regret.
- 11:04That means you regret very good. I'm telling you.
- 11:08But in America today they have this term, no regrets, classic
- 11:11term people use all the time. You're right.
- 11:14So he is telling you in this letter, he's telling you when
- 11:17you have the level of reflection which you should have, which is
- 11:20all the time looking back and analyzing and you're getting
- 11:24better. Don't feel scared to reflect and
- 11:27fire mistakes. Feel empowered to do so because
- 11:30the more you do so, the better you'll be the next time.
- 11:33And then you will have in the process you will have constantly
- 11:37regrets. Nothing wrong at all with having
- 11:40constantly regrets. It's an arrogant person who
- 11:44doesn't have regrets. An arrogant person says I made
- 11:47no mistakes, I don't think I did anything wrong.
- 11:49It's arrogance and it's a person who doesn't really want to look
- 11:54himself in the mirror. That's real.
- 11:56There's nothing wrong with making mistakes.
- 11:59There's nothing wrong with accepting your mistakes.
- 12:01There's nothing wrong with looking and saying next time
- 12:03I'll do better. Absolutely nothing wrong, right.
- 12:07In the early parts of marriage, some guys, we've all been down
- 12:10this road, they can't handle the feeling of making a mistake.
- 12:13They just can't handle it. And they try, right?
- 12:18They tried to turn, they tried to talk themselves out of
- 12:20mistake. How many roads have you and I've
- 12:23been down and maybe married to other areas, how many roads have
- 12:26we been down? But we made there something
- 12:28wrong and we spent two hours trying to talk about that one
- 12:33second. And at one minute, how about you
- 12:35just, you know, just hold up and say I messed up and I wish I had
- 12:39to do it. And hopefully over a few
- 12:42minutes, it goes away. Instead of talking, you're
- 12:44talking. You're talking and probably
- 12:46bring your friend in the mouth more and making yourself seem
- 12:48like a hazy case in the process. And all those things that make
- 12:51us like lose our masculinity, we like, we run away.
- 12:53We went, right, How'd that happen?
- 12:55It happened because you just can't own it.
- 12:58But he's telling you a good person who reflects all the
- 13:01time, a good person who looks at life and says to himself, it
- 13:06wasn't really worth it. I shouldn't have done that.
- 13:09And then he does the Shiva. He becomes a beautiful person
- 13:13over time in life, we are supposed to be literally like
- 13:16the classic examine Messiah Shame says.
- 13:19Messiah Shame writes. He takes it to get washed.
- 13:22He washed a dirty piece of clothing, general wash.
- 13:25You wash up some big stains. He washed it again and again and
- 13:29again. And he gets cleaner and cleaner
- 13:31included. The exact same thing is supposed
- 13:35to be our character. We are not supposed to be
- 13:38developed in character the same way at 20 as we should expect to
- 13:43be at 40 and 40 at 6060. At 80, over time, our character
- 13:48has gotten and will continue to get better and better and
- 13:52better. And it's only possible with this
- 13:55level of humility. It leads to reflection.
- 13:59It leads to tissue VAH that leads to remove, removing those
- 14:02mistakes. And then next time you don't do
- 14:04it. And even next time you do it,
- 14:06you do it with a little less oomph and a little less feeling
- 14:09of gratification when you made that mistake the next time.
- 14:12And then after that you do a little less.
- 14:14And then over time you become a person who's a completely
- 14:16different person. How we know this by now?
- 14:20Any drastic changes you made in your character went nowhere nice
- 14:24for me. It went nowhere myself.
- 14:26I have never made a drastic change character wise and seen
- 14:29any results. Why?
- 14:31Because you can't. It doesn't work that way.
- 14:34Your character and your actions, your words or a development of
- 14:39so much of your combination. What brings out your words,
- 14:42Iggy? What brings out your words on
- 14:44your mind? What brings out your words on
- 14:47your situation, your financial situation, your social
- 14:51situation, your home situation, what's going on in your life?
- 14:56That's what brings on your words.
- 14:58And to change all that is not possible or you have to do in
- 15:02order to change that as a change and shift the balance is how it
- 15:05works. You shift the balance of your
- 15:07mind to shift the words. What that means is you can't
- 15:10make a drastic change. It will and never has happened.
- 15:13You can't. What you do is you shift your
- 15:15balance a drop. How do you do so?
- 15:18I don't feel that good when I say a nasty comment anymore.
- 15:21It doesn't result in that much. When I say an off color joke
- 15:24joke, like I mentioned before, it doesn't really result in that
- 15:27much good, right? You shift your balance a draft,
- 15:31and then you shift your balance a little more, and then you
- 15:33should be balance a little more. And before you know, you become
- 15:36a different person. Not by making a drastic change
- 15:38that will not happen, that has no results, rather than by
- 15:41making a tiny change. The kind of changes shift to the
- 15:45drop. I know.
- 15:46How do you make those tiny changes?
- 15:48Reflect, reflect, reflect over and over and over again.
- 15:52And yes, regrets. I have regrets.
- 15:56I'm allowed to have regret. I accept them.
- 15:57I don't feel sad about my regrets.
- 15:59I don't feel bad. I don't feel like I'm a mistake.
- 16:02You know, people have this comment that they tell people
- 16:04all the time. I hate this comment.
- 16:06OK, You want us something that I can never handle.
- 16:09Why do you want to push my body? Here's my body.
- 16:11If you tell me you always do this, you always are nasty, you
- 16:21always are me. You always you always make same
- 16:25mistake. Why do I not like hearing the
- 16:27word always? Because although we you're not
- 16:29going to change because, I mean, you're telling me that over the
- 16:33last three years, let's just say, let's take a small window
- 16:36size over the last three years. Those three years are garbage.
- 16:40Those three years I've had the same issue.
- 16:42So I'm always obnoxious. Every time I walk into the room,
- 16:45I'm going to mean I don't want to hear always mean or I'm
- 16:47always. Yeah, has happened.
- 16:49Sure, has happened. Have I assessed any rule?
- 16:51Sure. But the word always.
- 16:53It gets me crazy. They don't really mean it, but
- 16:57that's the level, that's the level of reflection that's
- 17:01really going too far because that will lead you to sentence
- 17:04and that will lead you to too much regret.
- 17:06We are supposed to be at a level and at the stage and we can have
- 17:09regrets constantly. Perfectly fine to have those
- 17:13regrets. You know, sometimes people can't
- 17:15live with themselves. If they made a mistake, you're
- 17:17making a mistake and you move on.
- 17:20You move on, not because no regrets, you move on because
- 17:23yes, regrets and I'm going to get better the next time and
- 17:25better the next time before. You're going to be the cleanest
- 17:27person and the most developed character.
- 17:30And not with drastic changes, no, rather with small balance,
- 17:35little tweaks and you tweak over and over again.
- 17:38You get into control, you get into the strength mode and you
- 17:41become a different person. And if you tell yourself no
- 17:44regrets, you're telling yourself, I just can't own up
- 17:47for my life. You don't want to be in that
- 17:49state either, because then you're a person who's not
- 17:52producer. You own a free life, you'll
- 17:55accept it and you move on. Not with the word always, but
- 17:59small changes. I can't.
- 17:59Let's stop it. Lose.
