- 0:00His idea over here to explain how to develop humility was
- 0:08actually a very strange thing to work on.
- 0:10How do you develop humility? Do you put yourself down?
- 0:12How do you develop humility? So he says the 1st and main
- 0:18approach is slowly in your actions start to adapt a new
- 0:22way. K is so used to being humble.
- 0:25That really means used to now. Reacting so fast.
- 0:29He's not expecting so much Coverwood.
- 0:33He's not demanding so much. Dressing in a less flashy way,
- 0:38literally carrying yourself in a less loud way, in a quiet way.
- 0:43He's telling you it'll make you humbler.
- 0:45But the key is hair girl. Her girl means getting used to
- 0:48it step by step. If you try to design this
- 0:52extreme, it'll go nowhere. It has to be in stages.
- 0:56It has to become natural like any other character development.
- 0:59It's useless if it's unnatural. If it's not genuine and it's not
- 1:04natural, it's a waste of time. Person says one day I want to be
- 1:07humble. I I know I'm a loud guy and I
- 1:10make a lot of noise and I talk about myself a lot.
- 1:13I really want to be low key. It's not going to work.
- 1:16You pull, you pull up the Band-Aid too fast, it's not
- 1:17going to work. You need to do it in steps and
- 1:20he needs to mesh with your character and it's become one.
- 1:23That's what he's telling you, which means one day you have a
- 1:26scenario, you don't respond to a comment, that's humility.
- 1:30Another scenario, you don't get respect, you don't care, that's
- 1:33humility. You have an option of wearing a
- 1:35very loud clothing or a quieter clothing, and there's such a
- 1:38thing out there. You choose the quieter one.
- 1:40You don't buy the flashiest thing, you don't purchase the
- 1:43shopper's car, that's humility. And these different things
- 1:46slowly but surely bring us back to being a more overall low
- 1:51level, not low level, Excuse me, low key and high character
- 1:54person. Let's read it together. 467
- 1:58quine bioteva levada azua hollitnasse.
- 2:02You're finding a nature which is really built in to to feel
- 2:07conceited and to be superior, right?
- 2:09To translate in English. We are inclined to be arrogant.
- 2:13Anything goes our way. We think it's ours.
- 2:15We think it's our success. Casia lav la corme Quran Tia
- 2:19tibitas. You find nature and it's very
- 2:22difficult to find nature. Elam Kane if you follow a lot,
- 2:26hakito not hamisrot biado. The only way to fight this
- 2:30nature is to use your actions that are in your hands.
- 2:34Yamchi maat maat slowly, slowly hakavadi.
- 2:39You pull yourself and you pull your mind.
- 2:42You use your outer actions to impact your interactions, which
- 2:52means I cannot control my mind fully.
- 2:54I cannot control the fact that I am inclined, inclined to think
- 2:58that I'm a big deal. It's to make up of a human
- 3:00being. We all have a very much an
- 3:03inclination and a tilt to arrogance.
- 3:04What we need to do is to pull ourselves to be humble.
- 3:09And you pull yourself by your outer moves, what you wear,
- 3:13where you sit, how you talk, what you do, how you respond, or
- 3:17you're out of actions. If you carry them in a humble
- 3:20way, the result will be that eventually you'll see yourself
- 3:25in more of a humble way. This is not making myself into
- 3:28nothing. This is rather than making
- 3:30myself into as we want a very high character person through
- 3:34this method. But again, the key is use your
- 3:37actions to pull you to the middle.
- 3:39Use your actions to bring out and yourself a humble style.
- 3:43Because what happens is I reflect the way I am.
- 3:48So if I walk in with my chest out, my head held high and I
- 3:52talk very loud and I demand a lot, then I will reflect that in
- 3:57my mind and I'll be arrogant If I do the it's literally the
- 4:01opposite. I come in, I sit in the back, I
- 4:04come in, I talk soft, don't demand much, don't respond,
- 4:09don't get upset when somebody ignores me.
- 4:11All the regular humble things that automatically in my mind, I
- 4:14will reflect that and I'll be there.
- 4:16That's what he's telling us, how it works.
- 4:18It's not typical character building.
- 4:20Typical character building. We tell you in your mind to
- 4:22think the right thing will do the right thing in this area.
- 4:25He's telling you you can't just think the right thing won't
- 4:28happen. You need to live the right way
- 4:31and then you'll think the right thing.
- 4:32You can't just think, let me be humble.
- 4:35It will not change your character.
- 4:37It won't do it changing your character on your mind when this
- 4:40area will not work other areas, yes, this area won't work.
- 4:44You need the action, you need the external and that'll help
- 4:48you reflect the internal. That's how far it goes.
- 4:52This is the included in the concept of the Rabbi saying
- 5:02lolang ya Adam Arun viira. A person should always be
- 5:07resourceful in his pursuit of fear of Hashem.
- 5:11I know Shiva kesh takpulot. This is one of those areas.
- 5:14They need tricks. *** a Teva. You need to convince yourself.
- 5:21You need to fool yourself to becoming humble.
- 5:25You can't just accept the fact I like humility.
- 5:28I'll therefore be humble 'cause you'll think you're humble, you
- 5:32won't actually be it. You'll think in your mind, like
- 5:34we said once and he brings a humility can actually be one of
- 5:38the greatest forms of arrogance. When a person thinks they're
- 5:42humble, they're not. They're the most arrogant
- 5:45person. What they're thinking is they
- 5:46deserve credit for their humility as well.
- 5:48It's another source of arrogance.
- 5:50I deserve to be well liked or to be well appreciated or to be
- 5:53well known because I'm known to be the humble rabbi.
- 5:56That's a double sketch. That's what happens to a person.
- 5:59Literally that's what happens to a person if they just try
- 6:02humility without figuring out a way to get themselves humble.
- 6:05If the gaze of humble by saying to yourself, I don't really want
- 6:11to carry myself and the arrogant way.
- 6:13I don't want to be loud. I don't want to wear loud, I
- 6:16don't want to talk loud. I don't want to respond loud.
- 6:18I don't want to get angry loud. I don't want to get insulted in
- 6:21that loud way. Those are all forms of loud.
- 6:23Instead, quiet, quiet, quiet, quiet and the outcome will be
- 6:28from within. I will demand less.
- 6:31It is literally a try to choose practice.
- 6:34How do you keep yourself at Bay by demanding less?
- 6:38How so? By literally not expecting so
- 6:40much. That's it.
- 6:42So you walk into a place and how you want them to cater to you.
- 6:45You're already down the arrogant track.
- 6:48You walk into a place. Let's do go to a restaurant,
- 6:50right? You go to a restaurant, you're
- 6:53waiting for a seat and you're waiting and you see they give
- 6:57the next to the other guy a seat, right?
- 6:59It's a packed restaurant. You waiting there.
- 7:01You and your wife, he's staying there.
- 7:03He took your wife out. It's the first time in two
- 7:06weeks, 3 weeks, taking her out to a shop listed here, All
- 7:09right? And now he's standing there or
- 7:12he's staying there and you see them give the other couple a
- 7:17seat first. Maybe you even got there first.
- 7:19All right, there's they're two people.
- 7:21You are two people. He gives the other guy the
- 7:23exactly that is literally a trigger for a flare up.
- 7:27Like I have a you're going to doctor correct right.
- 7:37So right there. You know the all right, exactly.
- 7:41You have very much because again, none of us are bad
- 7:44people. Play up you ready?
- 7:47None of us are bad people and therefore none of us ever will.
- 7:50Just they're not thinking about other people.
- 7:52Very good. True, right?
- 7:53True. What if he sees you and calls
- 7:55you in fact, wait, wait your turn.
- 7:57What's wrong with waiting your turn?
- 7:58You know, it's all fair. It's all true.
- 8:01But the emotion that comes out, which is how could they take
- 8:06them before me? And then the feeling of like,
- 8:09you know, who are they and who am I and all these dudes that go
- 8:12through your mind to some degree.
- 8:14Now, if it's a strange restaurant, they don't know you.
- 8:15Doesn't make a difference, but there's some degree of a feeling
- 8:19like you do feel a little bit embarrassed.
- 8:21When you go to that doctor's office and he picks people up in
- 8:23front of you all the time, and you're way too behind that one.
- 8:26It. Even goes like when, when that
- 8:30happens, you say to yourself, I got to stand up for me and my
- 8:33wife because my wife's going to think I that's.
- 8:36All playing into a very normal guy, a very overall nice
- 8:41character person. I've seen this and it has driven
- 8:44me crazy. I've seen nice people flip out
- 8:48about the meat being rare, flip out on the under waiters.
- 8:53I remember the scene as once as probably 15 years ago, maybe
- 8:56more. I remember like sweating
- 8:58watching the verse. Just yell at the rated waiter,
- 9:01regular nice guy. Why do you yell?
- 9:03Obviously he wants to meet the right way.
- 9:05I understand that. But there's a sense of I paid
- 9:08for it. Entitlement.
- 9:11Maybe he's sitting with his wife.
- 9:12Maybe they didn't really. They give the other person, they
- 9:14give me the other person more attention, whatever it is.
- 9:17We use all areas that regular people can lose their regular
- 9:20self. And that's exactly where it's
- 9:23time for practice. Because in those spots, you
- 9:26know, in those spots, you say to yourself, I guess I won my seat.
- 9:30I'm not happy about waiting around.
- 9:32Clock is ticking. I want to, it's already late.
- 9:35We came late. All these things, you could say
- 9:37all those points, but the anger, that anger is coming directly
- 9:41from a sense of not being treated properly.
- 9:44And that's fine. But if it's coming from that,
- 9:47you're tiptoeing on a world of arrogance.
- 9:51And what you need is in those scenarios, a couple of those
- 9:54response would be, of course, you ask, you push, you proud,
- 9:59you convince, you do whatever you do that gets you the seat.
- 10:01I'm with you on that. You got to be.
- 10:03That's why at the end of the day, but but the anger part
- 10:06which means right. They did the first anger part,
- 10:10which is only coming from a sense of why are they treating
- 10:14me wrong, which really means I deserve to be treated right,
- 10:17which really means something special.
- 10:19You go deeper and deeper. Those layers are built that
- 10:22arrogance into practice that comes out from the non response
- 10:28as a very good practice to make you a humble person.
- 10:30He's actually telling you it's the only practice that'll make
- 10:33you humble. Thinking and committing in your
- 10:35mind to be humble will not be effective 'cause like we said,
- 10:38you'll mix your ability right into the arrogant way and you
- 10:42become a humble, arrogant person.
- 10:43And you want to know if there's such a thing out there?
- 10:45There are many, many people out there who are humble, arrogant
- 10:48people. OK.
- 10:49It's actually very difficult to be humble because it requires
- 10:52being stepped on a lot, right? And that's really what this
- 10:56concept is. Accept the degree of being
- 10:59stepped on. A we said many times, and if I
- 11:01work at today, one of the big themes are don't be taken
- 11:04advantage of. It's a big time theme out there.
- 11:07Don't be taking advantage of them.
- 11:08Now they blend that into the world of abuse and that's true.
- 11:11A person should not allow themselves to be abused in any
- 11:13fashion. It's very dangerous.
- 11:15That's clear. Dangerous for their mind,
- 11:17dangerous for their body, dangerous for everything.
- 11:18To be abused is torture. Fair, but it but the overall
- 11:23theme of I'm not going to let that go.
- 11:25I'm going to take advantage of them.
- 11:26I'm going to tell them off. I'm messing up to them.
- 11:29That whole mindset which leads to the guy who rides his bike,
- 11:33who walks across the street by the crosswalk, who watches as
- 11:37you pull up a little too close to the crosswalk and gives you
- 11:40that stare down. You know that stare down and
- 11:42they walk by you. They give you a look as if like
- 11:45where they get the strength to do that stare down.
- 11:47They as you have a bike, you have $100,000 car.
- 11:50So what's with the stare down? Who's who?
- 11:52The answer is that is that mindset of can't be taken
- 11:55advantage of. You gotta treat them the right
- 11:56way. That's where they get that
- 11:57little head from. But that is American head.
- 12:00That is not a Jewish mindset. It's not a Jewish mindset.
- 12:03It's a Jewish mindset to be anti anti abuse.
- 12:06It's a Jewish mindset to be treated properly.
- 12:08But to demand esteem that I shouldn't be taking advantage
- 12:12of. It's arrogance and arrogance and
- 12:14arrogance. A humble person is taking
- 12:17advantage of between you and I thousands and millions to maybe
- 12:20even millions of times of life. And you know what?
- 12:22He functions just fine. He's rolling.
- 12:25His life is better than theirs anyway, right.
- 12:27The humble burst. They're happy in their own way.
- 12:29Yeah. They don't need it's true
- 12:31happiness in a way. Yeah, they exactly.
- 12:33They're not dependent on how they're treated and how they
- 12:36were looked at to make them who they are.
- 12:38That's the overall beauty of adapting this way as it
- 12:41eventually your life, it flows so much more.
- 12:45You said this last week, a guy who responds to every one of
- 12:48these things, his life is so choppy and so literally such an
- 12:53unravel and such a, what's the word, unsettled life.
- 12:57Because every other minute they, oh, they're having this.
- 13:00They didn't invite me. Oh, they're doing this.
- 13:02They didn't tell me. Oh, my assistant was doing this.
- 13:04How come I had no less? All right, so and so was dating.
- 13:07They didn't tell me. Oh, it turns out they weren't
- 13:09dating. They were just thinking about
- 13:10dating. OK, you just lost a day on a
- 13:12sign that wasn't real, right? These examples, they, they, they
- 13:16tell me first they hurt me and by the meal they didn't, they
- 13:20turned to me, they gave me a bad seat.
- 13:22All the classics, right? And all that was this one person
- 13:27with feelings of degrees of arrogance, expecting to be
- 13:31treated well. And all that person needed was a
- 13:34pill. I would tell him, chill out,
- 13:37enjoy life. Don't be so dependent on other
- 13:40people. You take that pill in your mind,
- 13:43you're golden. You have the same level of
- 13:45credit anyhow. You cannot force people to treat
- 13:48you well and doesn't work. They might treat you well in
- 13:51front of you, but they don't want to treat you well.
- 13:54What's that worth? What's it worth to demand?
- 13:58Being treated well makes you feel better behind your back.
- 14:01You're talking about you anyway, behind your back.
- 14:03They don't respect you, right? In fact, they see the weakness,
- 14:08they see the demands. If all they see is a person who
- 14:11is really external or not internal, how much better is it
- 14:15to not be the person who forces people to sweat?
- 14:19How much nicer is it if you're the person that walks into the
- 14:22room and no one's unsettled because of you?
- 14:24No one's uncomfortable. No one's nervous to respond to
- 14:27thing. That is actually a theme called
- 14:31one person. Matil Emma.
- 14:33He puts fear in the room. He don't want that person
- 14:35around. Hey, Yeah.
- 14:37You get together. It's in deal with the boys.
- 14:39And now that you have a choice, should that person come?
- 14:41Should that not come? Well, if they come, they're
- 14:44going to be annoying. If they don't come, it's going
- 14:47to be chills. Who do I want?
- 14:49I don't want that person there. Right.
- 14:50So here's the person who made demands because they expect to
- 14:54be treated well. And all they're doing to say to
- 14:55themselves is we'd rather not have you.
- 14:58You know what that means? You're being treated well in
- 15:01front of your face, but treating terrible behind your back.
- 15:04So humility in this fashion of demanding, being treated well
- 15:08with arrogance. And the flip side, humility,
- 15:10which is not demanding, actually, it's going to get you
- 15:14treated way better in the long run.
