- 1:57Speaker 1: to be super interactive. I'm trying to kick it with you, guys.
- 1:59Speaker 1: I don't just want to like stand on a stage
- 2:01Speaker 1: and look at your faces. I really, I know you're
- 2:06Speaker 1: gonna go on tour if you.
- 2:08Speaker 3: If you can't tour with the people, well.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Because here's the thing, Rand, I'm gonna be real without
- 2:13Speaker 1: the people that come to the tour, without the people
- 2:15Speaker 1: that you know watch the show. I don't get to
- 2:19Speaker 1: like have the things that I have. So it's important
- 2:21Speaker 1: for me to get to like know the people that they.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Support your businesses, your brands, and by the way.
- 2:27Speaker 1: They support me as a human, like the amount of
- 2:28Speaker 1: people that reached out to me, like when I can
- 2:31Speaker 1: when we conceived Ocean, when my dad passed away. Like
- 2:34Speaker 1: these people are ride or die for La La, and
- 2:36Speaker 1: I really fucking love them.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I gotta say, I can't relate to any of this support,
- 2:40Speaker 2: but I do have.
- 2:42Speaker 3: You know how many friends I have? I think by
- 2:44Speaker 3: the way I was.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I was at one of the vander Pop restaurants recently
- 2:51Speaker 2: and I had over seven people come.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Up to me.
- 2:54Speaker 1: So why that you counted?
- 2:55Speaker 3: Don't show with me?
- 2:56Speaker 2: No, I think I have twenty fans. Now I went
- 2:59Speaker 2: from four to nine and I think I have twenty.
- 3:01Speaker 2: So I contribute a little bit to your fan base.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I love that. So today is super you guys. I
- 3:08Speaker 1: never get intimidated by anybody that we have on the podcast,
- 3:11Speaker 1: and I won't even lie. I've like broken out into
- 3:14Speaker 1: Colt sweats because we have Catherine Power.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Yes, and by the way, I'm a.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Good clot baby, give her a good.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Class, no, But I'm excited about Catherine because because this
- 3:23Speaker 2: is a special guest.
- 3:24Speaker 3: That we were very lucky to get.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Catherine is a power player in the entrepreneurial space. She
- 3:32Speaker 2: has built incredible brands. She's actually, believe it or not,
- 3:35Speaker 2: and Laala. People don't know this, but this is one
- 3:38Speaker 2: of Lala's biggest role models. Because as Lala is building
- 3:41Speaker 2: your as you're I'm talking about you here.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Not here, as you're building.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Your platforms, She's the kind of CEO and boss that
- 3:49Speaker 2: you want all of your brands to end up. And
- 3:51Speaker 2: she's had her businesses for a decade, some of them
- 3:54Speaker 2: some of them much newer. But she she's gonna tell
- 3:56Speaker 2: us all about it. But she's got incredible brands that
- 3:59Speaker 2: she's built from the grad up. And she also even
- 4:01Speaker 2: has a line company with superstar actress Cameron Diaz.
- 4:06Speaker 1: So no big deal, no big deal, let's start just
- 4:09Speaker 1: Cameron Diaz. I know it's really incredible. So before I
- 4:13Speaker 1: fully go into meltdown mode.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Apparently are you spilling tea right now?
- 4:19Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 4:19Speaker 3: Oh, I got to check out of this part.
- 4:21Speaker 1: So this troll who goes by the name of Kelly
- 4:25Speaker 1: Dodd decided to come out of her hole can come
- 4:28Speaker 1: for me.
- 4:29Speaker 3: But who is that? Who is Kelly Dodd? Because I
- 4:30Speaker 3: don't know, I mean, because you know, I don't know
- 4:32Speaker 3: reality that well. I know vander Pump.
- 4:34Speaker 1: She used to be on Real Housewives of Orange County. Okay,
- 4:38Speaker 1: she got fired, and God what I would give to
- 4:42Speaker 1: have her on this podcast because I just want to know, like, like,
- 4:45Speaker 1: when you mess up rand and people like you have repercussions,
- 4:50Speaker 1: you learn from the behavior, right, Yeah, of course she doesn't.
- 4:53Speaker 1: But I have a question, and I want to know why.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Okay, stop person, because I'm lost, because I don't really
- 4:57Speaker 2: know all the tea because you're spilling, So you want
- 5:00Speaker 2: to bring somebody on this podcast.
- 5:02Speaker 1: She'll never do it, but I would love it if
- 5:04Speaker 1: she was like, sure, but.
- 5:05Speaker 2: You're are you officially inviting this person on our podcast
- 5:09Speaker 2: that you have beef with?
- 5:12Speaker 1: I don't have beef with her. She has beef with me,
- 5:14Speaker 1: and I don't know why what?
- 5:16Speaker 4: Okay?
- 5:16Speaker 1: So it started with we had Nick Ritchie on a
- 5:19Speaker 1: couple weeks ago and she commented like that I'm an idiot, right,
- 5:23Speaker 1: and Nick Ritchie was like, I didn't know you had
- 5:24Speaker 1: beef with Kelly Dodge. She called you an idiot in
- 5:26Speaker 1: the comment section. I was like, really, I didn't know
- 5:28Speaker 1: I had beef with her either, So like whatever, I
- 5:30Speaker 1: comment back and then I move on with my life.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Then she fucking which I was just sent this, by
- 5:37Speaker 1: the way, and it happened a few weeks ago, and
- 5:39Speaker 1: I was like, how did I miss this? And then
- 5:40Speaker 1: I remembered that's right. I was working because I still
- 5:43Speaker 1: have a job. And she posted a picture of me
- 5:48Speaker 1: with Gallum from Lord of the Rings and granted, like,
- 5:52Speaker 1: I do see the resemblance between me and Gallum and
- 5:55Speaker 1: the photos she posted, but she said, does anyone else
- 5:57Speaker 1: see a resemblance? I would have clicked yes, because I
- 5:59Speaker 1: do this.
- 6:00Speaker 3: You see a resemblance between you and Gollam in the photo?
- 6:03Speaker 1: Like definitely, I would have clicked yes. But more people
- 6:06Speaker 1: clicked no. So she deleted it. But I was like,
- 6:10Speaker 1: wait a minute, what have I possibly said about her
- 6:14Speaker 1: that she would like be so upset at me?
- 6:17Speaker 3: So what did you say it upset her?
- 6:19Speaker 1: I don't know how I'm still recognized right she's.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Treating this article right now, Lalla, fireback. Oh no, this
- 6:24Speaker 2: is a whole thing between you two.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Oh. This started in October of twenty twenty.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Wait it did. That's news to me.
- 6:31Speaker 2: No, no, no, that's something that she did. Okay, sorry, you
- 6:33Speaker 2: just fired back about Okay, so here's the thing. Let
- 6:35Speaker 2: me summarize this for people that don't know, because I
- 6:37Speaker 2: didn't know you have a beef with this Kelly Dodd.
- 6:40Speaker 3: She came for you.
- 6:41Speaker 2: She posted a picture of Gullum. She said, do you
- 6:44Speaker 2: guys look blike that's that's little mean because Gullum's a monster,
- 6:48Speaker 2: so you're not a monster.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I think it was more about the physical appearance.
- 6:53Speaker 3: But okay, so what so keep in mind on the
- 6:57Speaker 3: show or not? I want to know is it official?
- 6:59Speaker 3: Say it or not?
- 7:00Speaker 1: Kelly Dodd hit a bit up man, like I got
- 7:03Speaker 1: to pick your brain. You're a fascinating human to me,
- 7:06Speaker 1: and I know you have a lot of time on
- 7:07Speaker 1: your hands now, so please fucking be on my podcast.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Okay, that was what you would call it, dig is it? Yeah?
- 7:17Speaker 3: I just wanted you to invite her. Come on, Well listen.
- 7:20Speaker 3: All I want to say is I don't know Kelly Dodd.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I don't know any of this except what I just
- 7:24Speaker 2: saw on this column, which I consider not not nice.
- 7:26Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, you invite her
- 7:28Speaker 2: up here and maybe she'll join the podcast. And by
- 7:31Speaker 2: the way, do you think maybe you guys could be
- 7:32Speaker 2: friends after the podcast? Do you think you can make up?
- 7:35Speaker 2: Could I broke her up? Peace treaty between you two
- 7:39Speaker 2: on the podcast?
- 7:39Speaker 1: I think we would say, like we like she here's
- 7:42Speaker 1: I don't have a beef with her at all.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Okay, she has a beef with you.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Yes, I'm confused why I want I want to pick
- 7:48Speaker 1: her brain. I didn't know we had a beef.
- 7:50Speaker 3: I'm sorry, right, let me back up. So that's just
- 7:52Speaker 3: my she has.
- 7:53Speaker 2: A beef with you, You've now invited her on our podcast,
- 7:57Speaker 2: and I am hoping that through this peace treaty, you
- 8:00Speaker 2: guys could figure out And.
- 8:01Speaker 1: You have to know, like, because people asked me, how
- 8:05Speaker 1: did you feel about this? And I was like, when
- 8:09Speaker 1: you have people like Jennifer Lawrence call you and see
- 8:12Speaker 1: you next Tuesday, when other people come for you, it's
- 8:15Speaker 1: like kind of trivial, like Kelly Dodd coming for me,
- 8:19Speaker 1: not that big of a deal. Like I've had the
- 8:23Speaker 1: biggest movie stars. I've had a lot of people come
- 8:25Speaker 1: for me, you know, and I've shaken that shit off.
- 8:28Speaker 1: So this is like whatever like, Kelly Dodd, please come
- 8:31Speaker 1: on my podcast. I want to take your brain so bad.
- 8:33Speaker 2: So by the way, So what I get from this
- 8:35Speaker 2: is I think Kelly will hear this, and I think
- 8:37Speaker 2: she's probably reasonable, and I think she'll take you up
- 8:40Speaker 2: on your offer. And I'm interested to see why it
- 8:42Speaker 2: even started for her and then you guys, can.
- 8:45Speaker 1: I tell you what I think it was? Do you
- 8:47Speaker 1: remember when we were in Puerto Rico when we were
- 8:48Speaker 1: talking to Bronwyn and we were saying, like, because Kelly
- 8:51Speaker 1: Dodd was coming for Bronwin with her sobriety, do you
- 8:54Speaker 1: remember this? And we were like, you can't come for
- 8:56Speaker 1: someone who's like trying to get sober or is continuing
- 8:58Speaker 1: to be sober. That's the only thing I can think of.
- 9:02Speaker 1: But you know, she'll be on the podcast.
- 9:04Speaker 2: You guys will sort it out right here. I think
- 9:06Speaker 2: this is great. I think it's a nice platform for
- 9:08Speaker 2: you and her to get on.
- 9:09Speaker 1: This is my prediction. She won't do the podcast, but
- 9:12Speaker 1: after she hears this, she's going to come for me
- 9:14Speaker 1: on her Instagram. Okay, that's my prediction.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Can I tell you my prediction what my prediction is
- 9:20Speaker 2: she hears this podcast, she hears my voice or reason,
- 9:24Speaker 2: and I believe that she will accept her invitation because
- 9:27Speaker 2: she she probably has a reason for whatever it started.
- 9:30Speaker 2: And then you guys will talk and I think you
- 9:32Speaker 2: guys will be friends after That's my prediction. So let's
- 9:34Speaker 2: see you is right. I'm betting that Kelly Dot's going
- 9:37Speaker 2: to come on and be cool and talk to you,
- 9:39Speaker 2: and you guys are going to figure it out. Your
- 9:40Speaker 2: prediction is she's going to take it to the GRAM
- 9:42Speaker 2: and keep coming for you. Let's see next week what
- 9:45Speaker 2: the result is.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Either way, I'm thoroughly looking forward to it.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Well, I want to tell you that I want to
- 9:51Speaker 2: get right into this first guest.
- 9:52Speaker 3: I want to give her all the time in the world.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Because you both are are CEO bosses, and I think
- 9:58Speaker 2: that you guys are gonna have a lot in common.
- 10:00Speaker 2: I know you've been excited as it gets about this,
- 10:02Speaker 2: so I'm going to actually remain probably okay, pretty.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Quiet from my perspective. I'm trying to get to a
- 10:11Speaker 1: level where I can say that she and I have
- 10:13Speaker 1: a lot in common. I'm excited to really pick her brain.
- 10:17Speaker 1: It is not lost upon me that she has built
- 10:21Speaker 1: something that I dream about daily.
- 10:24Speaker 2: So I kind of say to that, I understand you're
- 10:27Speaker 2: giving her mad respect because she has been doing this
- 10:30Speaker 2: for over a decade and she's, you know, achieved major, major,
- 10:34Speaker 2: high level success. But but you also have achieved a
- 10:38Speaker 2: lot of success in a short three and a half
- 10:40Speaker 2: four year period, and don't.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Discredit that either.
- 10:43Speaker 1: But thank you, baby.
- 10:44Speaker 2: But you know what, we're going to learn a shit
- 10:46Speaker 2: ton from Catherine that I feel.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I agree. So we're going to take a short break
- 10:51Speaker 1: and we will be right back with Catherine Power. And
- 10:56Speaker 1: we are back. I'm so intimidated. Oh my gosh, I know.
- 11:02Speaker 1: I'm so giddy. Catherine. What's that babe?
- 11:04Speaker 5: Yes, Hello, Hello, I'm so happy to be with you
- 11:09Speaker 5: guys today. I can't think of anything I'd rather do
- 11:12Speaker 5: after my lunch break on this Monday.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Yes, we like to bring you happiness into Monday.
- 11:19Speaker 1: So before we start, we just have to acknowledge the
- 11:23Speaker 1: fact that Randall was so excited when you did a
- 11:27Speaker 1: podcast with Cameron Diaz and someone the guy asked you
- 11:34Speaker 1: who is your favorite house husband?
- 11:39Speaker 3: You could take it back now, don't worry, you can
- 11:40Speaker 3: take it.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Back my favorite.
- 11:44Speaker 5: You have brought such a great energy to that show
- 11:48Speaker 5: and I'm so happy that you finally, you know, stepped
- 11:52Speaker 5: on to it because you are It's true, you know,
- 11:55Speaker 5: so nice.
- 11:56Speaker 2: What happened was you know, for a long time, I
- 11:59Speaker 2: was you know, I come from the other side of
- 12:01Speaker 2: the camera, so definitely wasn't comfortable in any respect. And
- 12:06Speaker 2: after about three years they got really smart and they
- 12:09Speaker 2: went to Lala and said, but we're going to make
- 12:12Speaker 2: a part of your deal, so whether he likes it
- 12:14Speaker 2: or not, he's showing up.
- 12:15Speaker 3: And I was like, oh, whoa.
- 12:17Speaker 2: So anyway, we worked it out and it was very
- 12:20Speaker 2: minimal the first season, and because I was petrified I
- 12:23Speaker 2: know what was going to happen.
- 12:24Speaker 3: And then I actually had like a lot of fun.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Like I was just I made.
- 12:27Speaker 2: The best of it and now and now they got
- 12:31Speaker 2: me in there like a lot, a lot more than
- 12:33Speaker 2: I thought I would ever be.
- 12:35Speaker 4: So I love it.
- 12:36Speaker 5: You're so likable, and I think it was good after
- 12:39Speaker 5: hearing for so many years all of these different opinions
- 12:43Speaker 5: of who you may or may not have been with,
- 12:46Speaker 5: Like to actually see this amazing guy and personality I
- 12:50Speaker 5: think is really good.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Well, thank you.
- 12:52Speaker 2: And honestly, Lala had been telling me for years, She's
- 12:54Speaker 2: like baby, you don't understand. If you just do it,
- 12:57Speaker 2: then the myth and all the drama of what you
- 13:01Speaker 2: really are will go away. And I'm like, I'm not
- 13:03Speaker 2: doing that.
- 13:04Speaker 3: That's not who I am, you know.
- 13:06Speaker 2: And ultimately, of course I I she puts a lot
- 13:10Speaker 2: of pressure, can't say no to laws.
- 13:12Speaker 3: So there you go. But thank you because it was.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I was really really that's a good thing because I
- 13:17Speaker 1: feel like you don't like, you don't take no for it.
- 13:20Speaker 1: You can't get to where you are by taking no
- 13:23Speaker 1: for an answer, right.
- 13:24Speaker 4: That's right. Yeah, no is just a you know, change
- 13:28Speaker 4: in horse.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I love it.
- 13:30Speaker 3: So will you tell everybody?
- 13:31Speaker 2: Because you know, I know what you do and who
- 13:34Speaker 2: you are and what you've accomplished. Can you just kind
- 13:36Speaker 2: of give us like how how it started, how it became,
- 13:39Speaker 2: what it is, and where it's going to go kind
- 13:40Speaker 2: of snapshot and then we can kind of, you know,
- 13:43Speaker 2: get under the hood.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Sure.
- 13:44Speaker 5: So I am an entrepreneur and CEO mostly in the fashion,
- 13:50Speaker 5: beauty and now beverage space. So I created a brand
- 13:54Speaker 5: called who What Where about fifteen years ago. So who
- 13:57Speaker 5: What Where was kind of the first company to bring
- 14:00Speaker 5: fashion magazine sensibilities to the Internet and then make the
- 14:04Speaker 5: content shoppable. So we you know, grew this business to
- 14:07Speaker 5: what you know now reaches about twenty million women per
- 14:11Speaker 5: month and turn that into a clothing line as well.
- 14:15Speaker 5: So we launched an apparel collection back in twenty sixteen,
- 14:19Speaker 5: really trend forward, size, inclusive, affordable fashion that has been
- 14:24Speaker 5: you know, mainly distributed throughout Target across the US. And
- 14:28Speaker 5: now we're launching a new what We're collection actually on
- 14:32Speaker 5: our website on August fifteenth, so you'll be able to
- 14:36Speaker 5: shop unique pieces from the site. I also started a
- 14:40Speaker 5: skincare brand called Verst First is the cleanest and most
- 14:44Speaker 5: sustainable drug store skincare brand today, and that really came
- 14:49Speaker 5: out of, you know, information we were getting from the
- 14:53Speaker 5: who what We're audience, you know, women saying I live
- 14:56Speaker 5: two hours from a Saphora or you know, I don't
- 14:59Speaker 5: have enough disposable income to go buy you know, beauty
- 15:03Speaker 5: products at a department store.
- 15:04Speaker 4: But I want you know, cleaner.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Products, I want cooler products, I want more effective products.
- 15:10Speaker 5: And we saw that the majority of our customers were
- 15:13Speaker 5: still discovering all their beauty products and drug stores. So
- 15:17Speaker 5: when we looked at the drug store skincare Ale. We
- 15:19Speaker 5: saw that hadn't changed in about fifty years, and so
- 15:22Speaker 5: we developed this brand called First, which now is distributed
- 15:26Speaker 5: through about five thousand retailers. Everything's under twenty dollars an item,
- 15:31Speaker 5: and because we were able to launch at such scale,
- 15:34Speaker 5: it helped us really drive down the cost of the
- 15:37Speaker 5: formulations and drive up the quality. I also have a
- 15:41Speaker 5: makeup brand called Merit, which just launched in January that
- 15:46Speaker 5: sold at Sephora and direct to consumer. But that's a
- 15:50Speaker 5: luxury brand that's kind of all based around this concept
- 15:53Speaker 5: of minimalist beauty. And finally, I have Aveline, which is
- 15:59Speaker 5: my clean and organic wine brand that I yes that
- 16:03Speaker 5: I like me at least once a week I text
- 16:12Speaker 5: Cameron and say, I'm so happy we created this because
- 16:16Speaker 5: you know, it's like we needed it.
- 16:18Speaker 4: But Avuline I created.
- 16:19Speaker 5: A partnership with Cameron Diaz, who is one of my
- 16:23Speaker 5: really good friends. And you know, we saw that everything
- 16:27Speaker 5: in our lives has gotten healthier, it has gotten better
- 16:30Speaker 5: for us. And you know, we were sitting there drinking
- 16:33Speaker 5: a bottle of wine and we said to ourselves, you know,
- 16:36Speaker 5: I wonder if there's any way to make wine better
- 16:38Speaker 5: for us? And when we really dug into the wine
- 16:41Speaker 5: making process and how most commercial wines are made.
- 16:45Speaker 4: You know, it was really shocking to us just the.
- 16:48Speaker 5: Amount of additives that can be added throughout the wine
- 16:50Speaker 5: making process without any disclosure. Most of the wine is
- 16:55Speaker 5: not organic because there are just not a lot of
- 16:58Speaker 5: organic land here in the US. So aveline is wine
- 17:02Speaker 5: that's made from organic grapes with super low intervention, and
- 17:06Speaker 5: it's delicious. You know, we're very discerning wine drinkers, so
- 17:09Speaker 5: we went, you know, all over the world to find
- 17:12Speaker 5: the perfect wine making partners for each unique blend.
- 17:16Speaker 4: And that has been so fun.
- 17:18Speaker 5: You know, we launched during the pandemic and you know,
- 17:21Speaker 5: for better or worse, alcohol consumption has been up, so you.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Know that's good time and time.
- 17:29Speaker 5: Yeah, at least if you're you know, if somebody is drinking,
- 17:32Speaker 5: we're happy to give them, you know, a cleaner option.
- 17:35Speaker 3: That's great. Wow. So that's you're pretty pretty busy.
- 17:39Speaker 1: I mean, and all of your your brands that you
- 17:44Speaker 1: just spoke about, all of your lines I've obviously heard of.
- 17:47Speaker 1: I've tried them. Joy Lab is also yours.
- 17:51Speaker 4: Yes, you know I've seen you wear Joy Lab girl.
- 17:55Speaker 1: That's all I wear. That's amazingmon, who is where it's at.
- 18:01Speaker 1: It's the cutest like ath leisure, workout apparel, it's the
- 18:07Speaker 1: fit is fantastic. I mean, you really just kill it
- 18:11Speaker 1: all around. So it's really a pleasure to have you
- 18:14Speaker 1: on this podcast. And you know, it's so relatable. When
- 18:18Speaker 1: when I started doing give Them La La Beauty, you
- 18:22Speaker 1: were saying with Verst, you know, there aren't many people
- 18:25Speaker 1: who can go out and spend hundreds of dollars on
- 18:27Speaker 1: their skincare. And I think the fact that you, before
- 18:30Speaker 1: anybody made skincare affordable and approachable is just brilliant.
- 18:37Speaker 3: That's amazing.
- 18:37Speaker 2: And the fact that it's everything's twenty dollars under in right,
- 18:41Speaker 2: and it's like such a smart, smart move. I mean,
- 18:44Speaker 2: especially like you said, fifty years, nothing's changed in these
- 18:47Speaker 2: drug stores and you found a way to come in
- 18:50Speaker 2: and bring an uplift you know, to it. And that's
- 18:53Speaker 2: pretty cool.
- 18:53Speaker 3: I mean, that's a that's an anomaly that's not easy
- 18:56Speaker 3: to come up with. That place. Find your place such
- 18:59Speaker 3: a busy, busy space.
- 19:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean that's what I like to do, is
- 19:03Speaker 5: I search for white space, you know, specifically in this
- 19:07Speaker 5: kind of millennial gen Z and you know merits even
- 19:10Speaker 5: like older millennial you know gen X, which I saw
- 19:13Speaker 5: as like a big opportunity, but I love you know,
- 19:17Speaker 5: finding the white space and then you know, creating a
- 19:20Speaker 5: brand a value proposition for the consumer based on it.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Do you have a lot of partners in the other brands?
- 19:26Speaker 3: Are you the sole you know? Yeah, an owner.
- 19:29Speaker 4: I have a wonderful co founder in Who What Where?
- 19:33Speaker 5: Who I launched the business with fifteen years ago, Hillary Kerr.
- 19:37Speaker 4: I have amazing executive teams.
- 19:40Speaker 5: I mean, That's how I'm able to do so many
- 19:42Speaker 5: things is that, you know, I have a president who's
- 19:46Speaker 5: been with me for nine years, a CFO, a CEO,
- 19:49Speaker 5: you know, all of these people who are just so
- 19:51Speaker 5: talented and really are executing on the day to day.
- 19:55Speaker 4: And then we bring in.
- 19:56Speaker 5: You know, different investors based on the you know, the knee,
- 20:00Speaker 5: the strategic need, the skill set, and so a lot
- 20:03Speaker 5: of different partners. I tend to work with the same
- 20:05Speaker 5: people over and over. It's probably like making a movie.
- 20:08Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, you go with the.
- 20:10Speaker 5: Same you know, the same people over and over because
- 20:12Speaker 5: you just have your groove, you understand each other. And
- 20:14Speaker 5: so I've kind of built that little ecosystem in the
- 20:17Speaker 5: CpG world.
- 20:19Speaker 1: So when when you talk about all of these things
- 20:22Speaker 1: that you've created, do you feel like, because you said,
- 20:26Speaker 1: who what where has been around for quite some time?
- 20:28Speaker 1: Do you think that the market now is saturated when
- 20:31Speaker 1: people try to come in and start something, do you
- 20:36Speaker 1: kind of look at it and go, Okay, I respect
- 20:38Speaker 1: the hustle, but it's like, you know, we had it.
- 20:40Speaker 1: I don't want to say that what you did was easy,
- 20:43Speaker 1: let's not get that twisted. But do you feel like
- 20:46Speaker 1: with time, you know, anyone can create a brand, but
- 20:49Speaker 1: to make it a success is much harder than it was,
- 20:52Speaker 1: you know, X amount of years ago.
- 20:55Speaker 5: I mean, I certainly think you can become a self
- 20:57Speaker 5: made expert now right without having to go to you know,
- 21:01Speaker 5: chemistry school or having been a makeup artist for example.
- 21:06Speaker 4: The world today allows you to do that.
- 21:09Speaker 5: It doesn't mean you could just wake up one day
- 21:10Speaker 5: and decide you want to do it with no passion
- 21:13Speaker 5: or interest or willingness to learn. I mean, when Cameron
- 21:15Speaker 5: and I wanted to make a wine brand, we knew
- 21:18Speaker 5: nothing about the alcohol industry.
- 21:20Speaker 4: We knew about the.
- 21:20Speaker 5: Consumer, okay, and so what we did is we set
- 21:23Speaker 5: out and we would we took a meeting with anyone
- 21:26Speaker 5: who would ever meet with us that remotely was connected
- 21:28Speaker 5: to alcohol or that industry, and we would just start
- 21:32Speaker 5: asking questions and learning. I mean, I do think certain
- 21:35Speaker 5: categories are saturated, but I also think that, you know,
- 21:39Speaker 5: the way that the world is now, we're going to
- 21:41Speaker 5: have like fewer multi billion dollar brands and a lot
- 21:45Speaker 5: more sort of smaller brands that meet you know, consumers
- 21:48Speaker 5: where they are so much more niche. And I think
- 21:51Speaker 5: that's you know, the consumer demand has what's really resulted
- 21:56Speaker 5: in so many brands coming to market with so many
- 21:58Speaker 5: different points of view.
- 21:59Speaker 4: And I think as.
- 22:00Speaker 5: Long as you do have a really unique point of
- 22:03Speaker 5: view and a unique position in the market, you know,
- 22:07Speaker 5: you can make room for yourself.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Right, you feel like you have to also be an
- 22:12Speaker 1: expert with branding because we we live so much, you know,
- 22:16Speaker 1: on our phones, with social media, and you know, even
- 22:20Speaker 1: though I am a part of that generation who should
- 22:23Speaker 1: be fantastic at it, I actually really suck at it.
- 22:26Speaker 1: And I wish that it wasn't such a huge part
- 22:29Speaker 1: of you know, the day to day and selling. And
- 22:31Speaker 1: I hear you it's a real bitch Catherine.
- 22:35Speaker 5: I know I'm personally not great at it, you know,
- 22:38Speaker 5: for the brands, I hire the people that really get
- 22:42Speaker 5: it and understand it and just totally let them do
- 22:45Speaker 5: their thing.
- 22:45Speaker 4: I would probably be so much more successful if I
- 22:48Speaker 4: did lean in a little bit more personally, But I
- 22:50Speaker 4: just it's not organic to who I am. So I
- 22:53Speaker 4: totally get it right.
- 22:55Speaker 1: And you had posted a story This had to have
- 22:59Speaker 1: been a few weeks ago, and I think it was
- 23:01Speaker 1: your husband who was talking about how gender roles really
- 23:05Speaker 1: don't exist in your households. Yes, yes, I love that
- 23:09Speaker 1: so much. Can you expand on like what your day
- 23:12Speaker 1: looks like and like what your husband takes on that
- 23:15Speaker 1: most people would say, oh, that's a quote unquote woman's job,
- 23:18Speaker 1: Like what does it look like at your house?
- 23:20Speaker 4: So I think, you know, for one thing, my husband
- 23:23Speaker 4: grew up with a mom.
- 23:24Speaker 5: Who ran her own business, you know, was definitely a career,
- 23:29Speaker 5: you know, driven woman. So I think he's really comfortable
- 23:32Speaker 5: with that. I mean, he literally started dating me the
- 23:35Speaker 5: moment I decided to start who what where?
- 23:38Speaker 3: Oh wow?
- 23:39Speaker 5: So he's been through you know, everything with me, and
- 23:42Speaker 5: you know, we've gone through so many different phases of
- 23:45Speaker 5: him you know, helping to support me in the early
- 23:48Speaker 5: days when we were just funding at ourselves and you
- 23:50Speaker 5: know what, weren't taking a paycheck.
- 23:52Speaker 4: And now he's.
- 23:53Speaker 5: Doing a startup, so I'm able to support him where
- 23:57Speaker 5: well he can just take the time to do that.
- 23:59Speaker 4: And you know he.
- 24:01Speaker 5: Has, he's been an advertising photographer and director and you know,
- 24:08Speaker 5: kind of developed this passion for cooking on the side.
- 24:11Speaker 5: It really accelerated during COVID. So now he's you know,
- 24:15Speaker 5: he cooks. I do not cook, what's all. And now
- 24:19Speaker 5: he's kind of turned that into a business. He's launching
- 24:21Speaker 5: a food line and you know, I have a four
- 24:24Speaker 5: year old son, and you know, he's obsessed with Disney
- 24:28Speaker 5: princesses and Elsa and you know, jewelry and and hair
- 24:32Speaker 5: accessories and so you know, it's not what you would
- 24:36Speaker 5: traditionally expect or historically expect, and it works so well
- 24:40Speaker 5: for our family.
- 24:41Speaker 4: It's so special.
- 24:43Speaker 5: You know, we love our son and it's just a
- 24:46Speaker 5: real it's just you know, I guess I think that's
- 24:49Speaker 5: what he meant when you know, he said things are changing,
- 24:53Speaker 5: and he thinks it's a good thing.
- 24:55Speaker 1: I fully agree. I mean, I think it's absolutely spectacular
- 24:58Speaker 1: when you see a man like really supporting his wife
- 25:02Speaker 1: while she goes out and does the things that you do.
- 25:06Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sure he's so proud, and what an
- 25:08Speaker 1: epic example for your son.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Yes, yes, and it is.
- 25:12Speaker 5: You know, it is a full time job to be
- 25:15Speaker 5: in a relationship with an entrepreneur, and you know, with
- 25:20Speaker 5: someone with really bold ambitions.
- 25:22Speaker 4: You know, he's totally.
- 25:25Speaker 5: You know, just probably very comfortable with with you know,
- 25:28Speaker 5: what he's doing right now in our life.
- 25:30Speaker 4: And I'm just always like driving for more. He puts
- 25:34Speaker 4: up with that, and so no, I.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Love it like that too.
- 25:38Speaker 2: I say, I cook and I clean, No kidding, I
- 25:41Speaker 2: don't do anything of us star.
- 25:45Speaker 3: By the way, La La bullshited me, just so we're
- 25:48Speaker 3: all clear, and I will.
- 25:49Speaker 1: I did totally.
- 25:51Speaker 3: She costs me two one one thousand dollars.
- 25:53Speaker 2: So she looked at me and she's and I said, babe,
- 25:55Speaker 2: you know like when I met her kind of similar.
- 25:58Speaker 2: She was just starting on the SHO Show. She was
- 26:01Speaker 2: just she had all these dreams and ambitions. And when
- 26:04Speaker 2: I met her, She's like, Babe, I want to start
- 26:06Speaker 2: a skin a makeup brand. I was like, oh, that's great,
- 26:09Speaker 2: and just out of the gate, you know, needed my
- 26:11Speaker 2: support and love and cheerleading. And I did it because
- 26:14Speaker 2: I knew she was a boss. So I wasn't even
- 26:16Speaker 2: a question. And I said, can I invest in in
- 26:20Speaker 2: this thing? Because I know whatever she does, she's going
- 26:23Speaker 2: to drive it home. And I was like, she's definitely
- 26:25Speaker 2: gonna take my money. And she came home like a
- 26:28Speaker 2: few days later and she's like, baby, you know, I
- 26:31Speaker 2: really love you and I just need your support, but
- 26:34Speaker 2: not financially. And I was like, what, You're not gonna
- 26:37Speaker 2: And I was so like bent. And now she's turned
- 26:40Speaker 2: into a multi million dollar business. I'm so proud of her.
- 26:44Speaker 2: It is, baby, it is. She downplays it, but but
- 26:47Speaker 2: the thing is, I'm so proud of her. She did
- 26:49Speaker 2: it all on her own, didn't. I mean, you know,
- 26:51Speaker 2: with my emotional support, but not. But did it all
- 26:54Speaker 2: on her own. R. But the funny thing is she
- 26:56Speaker 2: did cost me two undred grand with the cooking because
- 26:58Speaker 2: I said to her, baby, if you would just cook
- 27:01Speaker 2: one time a week for you, just so.
- 27:02Speaker 3: I feel like, pretend, just play, pretend.
- 27:05Speaker 2: I'll buy the apron, I'll stand around the side, I'll
- 27:08Speaker 2: I'll even put the ingredients on the stove for you
- 27:11Speaker 2: and we could just like kind of do it together.
- 27:13Speaker 3: She's like, if I had a nice kitchen, I would,
- 27:17Speaker 3: So what did I do?
- 27:19Speaker 4: I built her the best in the kitchen.
- 27:21Speaker 2: The best okay, they asked me, and I don't know
- 27:24Speaker 2: about cooking. They asked me, like, do you want the
- 27:26Speaker 2: four bird or the six burn of the apron? I
- 27:27Speaker 2: was like, apron. My girl needs an apron. She hasn't
- 27:31Speaker 2: been in that kitchen since that thing was completed.
- 27:33Speaker 1: So it's gorgeous.
- 27:35Speaker 4: Though, you know, it's you gotta love it. You love
- 27:40Speaker 4: and you know if you don't, it's like why you know?
- 27:44Speaker 1: But Catherine, he likes he likes beef jerky, which is
- 27:47Speaker 1: his version of steak, and like well done chicken. And
- 27:50Speaker 1: that's not fun. It's like, give me something fun. I
- 27:53Speaker 1: like a challenge.
- 27:54Speaker 3: So you did cook a smoothie. I'm cooking. You did
- 27:58Speaker 3: blend the smoothie for me the other day. I was shocked.
- 28:01Speaker 3: You're like. I woke up and she's like, do you
- 28:02Speaker 3: want a smoothie? And I was like, who are you?
- 28:05Speaker 3: And she's like, I'm into it right now. It's like
- 28:07Speaker 3: I'll take it whatever.
- 28:08Speaker 1: I'll tell that's true. I do stup my ja body.
- 28:11Speaker 4: During lockdown, you guys didn't even get.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Any Can I tell you it was hysterical because we're
- 28:18Speaker 1: sitting down after restaurants opened for takeout, and we sit
- 28:22Speaker 1: down and Randall's like, don't you just feel like a
- 28:24Speaker 1: normal person again now that we can order takeout? I
- 28:27Speaker 1: was like, and this is why we're meant to be.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Yeah, no, we didn't. We didn't.
- 28:34Speaker 2: You know, We're lucky that, you know, because I have
- 28:37Speaker 2: I have three kids told to I have two kids
- 28:39Speaker 2: that are seven to eleven and now a newborn was
- 28:41Speaker 2: five months four and a half months. And when we're
- 28:44Speaker 2: in lockdown, you know, we have a nanny that helps
- 28:47Speaker 2: out when I go to work, and she goes to work,
- 28:49Speaker 2: and thank god, she does cook. Isabelle does cook and
- 28:53Speaker 2: she is she loves. She gets home and she's like,
- 28:55Speaker 2: what can I make everybody? I was like, oh my god.
- 28:57Speaker 2: So I think that we're both a little spoiled. She
- 29:00Speaker 2: knows that her Like last.
- 29:02Speaker 3: Night, I'll give you a perfect example.
- 29:03Speaker 2: We're alone last night with our with our four and
- 29:05Speaker 2: a half months old, and we get home and and
- 29:09Speaker 2: we're sitting there, it's like eight o'clock and I'm like,
- 29:11Speaker 2: what are we have for dinner? And she's like, I
- 29:12Speaker 2: don't know, Like we just we just hit a wall.
- 29:15Speaker 2: We're just alone. I don't know what.
- 29:18Speaker 4: I totally get it. By the way, it's a little
- 29:20Speaker 4: bit of a myth.
- 29:21Speaker 5: You know, Justin is out a different house filming like
- 29:25Speaker 5: four things at a time. They're not actually making right
- 29:29Speaker 5: home to me, and my wonderful nanny is downstairs right
- 29:33Speaker 5: now making a chicken as we speak.
- 29:36Speaker 3: So it's a.
- 29:36Speaker 4: Little bit of a myth. But he definitely does cook
- 29:40Speaker 4: for us, you.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Know, has the ability when he wants to step up.
- 29:44Speaker 1: He'll step up two three times a week after that's
- 29:47Speaker 1: a lot.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Yeah, could I take what's a month at this point?
- 29:50Speaker 1: But right, okay, we're going to take a short break
- 29:52Speaker 1: and we will be right back. And we're back. That's
- 30:01Speaker 1: so short, that's so it's quick.
- 30:04Speaker 4: Great.
- 30:04Speaker 1: So I have a question. You said your husband's name
- 30:07Speaker 1: is Justin. Yeah, you said you met him right before
- 30:12Speaker 1: you started Who what where? What were you doing before
- 30:16Speaker 1: you started that?
- 30:17Speaker 4: So? I was the West Coast editor of L magazine, And.
- 30:22Speaker 1: So you're just a baller. You're just a gangst like
- 30:25Speaker 1: you just have always been a hustler.
- 30:27Speaker 3: That.
- 30:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I've always been a hustler. You know, I did not.
- 30:31Speaker 5: Have a traditional education path I was. When I was young,
- 30:35Speaker 5: I was a very serious dancer.
- 30:39Speaker 4: Kind.
- 30:40Speaker 5: I did everything, mostly jazz and ballet. I was in
- 30:43Speaker 5: a performing company here in the valley and spent you
- 30:48Speaker 5: know ten am till ten at night, about four days
- 30:51Speaker 5: a week, you know, dancing And so as a result,
- 30:54Speaker 5: I ended up doing home study for high school.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Oh wow, did that?
- 31:00Speaker 4: And I graduated early.
- 31:03Speaker 5: You know, I was sixteen, and I was doing a
- 31:05Speaker 5: lot of you know film and TV as a dancer,
- 31:09Speaker 5: and so you know, you had to be emancipated really
- 31:13Speaker 5: in order to work those adult hours. And so my mom,
- 31:17Speaker 5: you know, took me at sixteen to be emancipated so
- 31:20Speaker 5: I could do the movie Austin Powers.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Wow.
- 31:24Speaker 5: From then on, Yeah, from then on, I was able
- 31:28Speaker 5: to work as an adult. So I actually started in film.
- 31:31Speaker 5: That's what I thought I wanted to do.
- 31:33Speaker 3: Yeah, And I went to.
- 31:34Speaker 4: Work at Touchstone for a producer.
- 31:37Speaker 5: I was the youngest employee there outside of the kid actors.
- 31:41Speaker 4: It was owned by Disney.
- 31:43Speaker 5: But I started working there when I was seventeen, and
- 31:46Speaker 5: I was only able to do that because I had
- 31:48Speaker 5: been you know, emancipated and did that for a while,
- 31:51Speaker 5: and then I got into night life.
- 31:53Speaker 4: And you know, I always say.
- 31:58Speaker 3: When you say, I said, didn't we all at a
- 32:00Speaker 3: nightlight at some point?
- 32:02Speaker 5: And my you know, my, my advice to to anyone
- 32:05Speaker 5: looking for a career is just find something you love
- 32:07Speaker 5: to do and then figure out a way to get
- 32:08Speaker 5: paid for it. So I followed my own advice and
- 32:12Speaker 5: started working for a really big club promoter and here
- 32:15Speaker 5: here in Los Angeles called Brent Bulthouse.
- 32:17Speaker 2: I was going to say, he's the greatest, by the way,
- 32:22Speaker 2: the greatest.
- 32:22Speaker 4: Yes, yes.
- 32:24Speaker 5: So I started, much like you, Lala, as a hostess
- 32:27Speaker 5: at these clubs, and you know, started doing bottle service.
- 32:32Speaker 5: We didn't have it in LA it was a big
- 32:33Speaker 5: thing in New York. But I used to book people
- 32:37Speaker 5: in these tables and charge for them. And then I
- 32:40Speaker 5: from there, you know, started to see that all of
- 32:42Speaker 5: these brands were coming to us asking, you know, hey,
- 32:45Speaker 5: can we hand out our soda in your club? Or
- 32:48Speaker 5: hey can we give out you know products as people leave?
- 32:52Speaker 5: And I realized we had such a valuable audience that
- 32:55Speaker 5: was coming together, you know, three days a week. So
- 32:59Speaker 5: I went to brand and I pitched this idea of
- 33:02Speaker 5: starting a marketing division there where you know, companies would
- 33:05Speaker 5: pay us to integrate their products. Yeah, that was kind
- 33:09Speaker 5: of how I got into you know, integrated advertising, which
- 33:13Speaker 5: is ultimately what a media company does. And so from there,
- 33:18Speaker 5: between that and my relationships just in Hollywood, I got
- 33:22Speaker 5: the West Coast editor role at L and L Girl
- 33:26Speaker 5: because a lot of that job was booking talent, so
- 33:29Speaker 5: booking celebrities for covers, all of that. So that's really
- 33:33Speaker 5: how I got into publishing and fashion and all of that.
- 33:37Speaker 5: And and you know, from there, as I saw my
- 33:40Speaker 5: own behavior shift to being online, you know, decided to
- 33:44Speaker 5: start something that was internet based.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Wow, that's a pretty dope story.
- 33:49Speaker 2: I mean, like I'm friends with Brent and Noah and
- 33:52Speaker 2: Jason all the you know night. Yeah, because I'm fifty,
- 33:55Speaker 2: and we all came up, you know together at a
- 33:58Speaker 2: time where they you know, were promote or they were
- 34:01Speaker 2: you know, I mean they turned it into these you know,
- 34:03Speaker 2: no adjacent soul to Madison Square Garden. My friend David
- 34:05Speaker 2: Grutman sold to Live Nation. I mean, all these guys
- 34:08Speaker 2: turned into moguls, and I'm so proud of all of them, because,
- 34:13Speaker 2: like you said, it was a time that was so
- 34:15Speaker 2: new and fresh in night life and then became like
- 34:18Speaker 2: you said, I could I mean you said it so well,
- 34:20Speaker 2: you know, the brands came in and the big businesses
- 34:23Speaker 2: came in and it just, you know, grew. But I
- 34:25Speaker 2: mean that's a that's such a neat story because I
- 34:27Speaker 2: think people who are listening sometimes look at themselves, at
- 34:31Speaker 2: least people I speak to, or like, how do I
- 34:33Speaker 2: get into Hollywood? Or how do I start a business?
- 34:35Speaker 2: How do I do all that? And they think kind
- 34:37Speaker 2: of like you just start there, but you're look, you know,
- 34:40Speaker 2: you started as a dancer and then went into night
- 34:42Speaker 2: life and then went into publishing. And I just think
- 34:45Speaker 2: there's the moral of the story for me when I
- 34:47Speaker 2: when I hear someone like you was so successful, is
- 34:49Speaker 2: there is no right path. It's it's got to have
- 34:52Speaker 2: passion and it's got to have determination and a vision,
- 34:55Speaker 2: and if you have that, you really can't fail ultimately.
- 34:58Speaker 2: I mean you just you have to just kind of
- 35:00Speaker 2: drive that passion into success, right.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Yeah, And so when you started, did you have to
- 35:08Speaker 1: give up that job at el or what like what
- 35:11Speaker 1: did your your justine at the time when you were
- 35:13Speaker 1: like I'm going to start this, was it like I'm
- 35:15Speaker 1: going to make this a hobby or did you have
- 35:18Speaker 1: like a really grand viil.
- 35:19Speaker 5: We were committed to making it a business. In fact,
- 35:22Speaker 5: we were so offended in those early years when anyone
- 35:26Speaker 5: would call us a blog because literally, like you know,
- 35:30Speaker 5: we took our savings and invested it in this, in
- 35:34Speaker 5: this business, and we licensed photos from day one and
- 35:37Speaker 5: did everything legally. When you had all of these like
- 35:39Speaker 5: pres Hilton and all of the you know, really gossip
- 35:43Speaker 5: sites that were that were coming up, we were just
- 35:46Speaker 5: taking a pure approach to fashion and always ran it
- 35:51Speaker 5: that way. And because we had such a positive spin
- 35:55Speaker 5: on everything this, you know, celebrities that we feature started
- 35:58Speaker 5: talking about us, and that's really what propelled the you know,
- 36:02Speaker 5: the brand to become a big media company.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Wow, it's and I love that you you say that,
- 36:09Speaker 1: because so often we see things online where it's you know,
- 36:14Speaker 1: obviously things are to get clicks. You know, if I
- 36:16Speaker 1: see something that says that someone has beef with someone,
- 36:19Speaker 1: I'm going to click on that rather than like so
- 36:21Speaker 1: and so is so happy right now? You know, it's
- 36:24Speaker 1: so for you guys to take a positive approach to Yeah,
- 36:28Speaker 1: I just think that's amazing. So you really did put
- 36:31Speaker 1: all of your eggs in this basket.
- 36:34Speaker 4: We really really did.
- 36:35Speaker 5: And I've always been someone who just is a risk taker.
- 36:40Speaker 4: I mean specifically with more my mind.
- 36:43Speaker 5: I would never like jump out of a plane, really,
- 36:45Speaker 5: but I will, you know, take my last dollar and
- 36:49Speaker 5: and throw it into something I believe in, or you know,
- 36:52Speaker 5: stand up on a stage and tell people I'm going
- 36:54Speaker 5: to do this and then make sure it gets done.
- 36:57Speaker 5: So it's just not I I've always had that sense
- 37:00Speaker 5: about me where I just kind of go do something
- 37:03Speaker 5: and that's just what's going to happen.
- 37:05Speaker 1: I love it. And you know, you're a mom of
- 37:08Speaker 1: a four year old. I'm a new mom, and I've
- 37:12Speaker 1: found it hard to balance the two. You know, someone
- 37:16Speaker 1: who wants to go out and work and create something
- 37:19Speaker 1: for herself and be a great mom to my daughter.
- 37:22Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sure a lot of moms feel that
- 37:24Speaker 1: guilt when they walk out the door and they're like,
- 37:27Speaker 1: am I doing the right thing?
- 37:28Speaker 4: Like?
- 37:29Speaker 1: Do I need to make adjustments so that I can
- 37:31Speaker 1: be with my kid all the time? How do you
- 37:32Speaker 1: manage that?
- 37:34Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a great question, and you know, I didn't
- 37:38Speaker 5: really get comfortable, I think, with being a mom until.
- 37:41Speaker 4: My son was almost two.
- 37:43Speaker 5: Really wow, you know, it felt kind of for it
- 37:46Speaker 5: still felt foreign to me.
- 37:47Speaker 4: Am I doing this right? Am I spending enough time?
- 37:50Speaker 4: Is it okay if I travel now?
- 37:52Speaker 5: And honestly, the first eight months were sort of a blur,
- 37:55Speaker 5: like I can look back on it now, but I
- 37:57Speaker 5: think when I was in it, it was just it
- 37:59Speaker 5: was just sort of a blur. And I think, you know,
- 38:01Speaker 5: I didn't take I took like a month off and
- 38:05Speaker 5: I you know, wasn't long enough and I should have
- 38:07Speaker 5: done more. But you know, I I did struggle with
- 38:11Speaker 5: that in the beginning. But ultimately I think, you know,
- 38:15Speaker 5: you just have to realize, like you're you're always going
- 38:18Speaker 5: to be the mom, and you can define your own
- 38:20Speaker 5: way of being a parent. And that may look different
- 38:24Speaker 5: than you know, your your friends who are stay at
- 38:26Speaker 5: home moms. But I found actually a great community of
- 38:31Speaker 5: moms who helped support me. So like my friends who
- 38:35Speaker 5: are stay at home moms, will make sure my kids
- 38:37Speaker 5: enrolled in a class.
- 38:38Speaker 4: That they're doing.
- 38:39Speaker 5: And I know the best you know psychologists to go
- 38:42Speaker 5: to without having to research it. And so for me,
- 38:45Speaker 5: it's it's just also creating that network of support. But
- 38:49Speaker 5: I just think it's going to be so much more
- 38:51Speaker 5: valuable to your child, you know, to have them see
- 38:54Speaker 5: you do something you love, you know, whether that is
- 38:57Speaker 5: being a full time mom or having full time career.
- 39:01Speaker 5: But yeah, I think there's no right or wrong way
- 39:05Speaker 5: to do it.
- 39:06Speaker 3: I want to say that I agree with you.
- 39:08Speaker 2: I think you said it perfectly, like there are people
- 39:10Speaker 2: who are equally as passionate about being at home with
- 39:13Speaker 2: their child every single minute. And there are people like
- 39:17Speaker 2: both of you who love your career and love your children.
- 39:20Speaker 2: But I do think the people that do love their
- 39:22Speaker 2: career as mothers. I always tell Lala, don't worry like
- 39:27Speaker 2: you're home all the time with our baby when you
- 39:29Speaker 2: need to go.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Out and work and make a living.
- 39:32Speaker 2: She's going to look up to you when she's ten, eight, twelve, fifteen.
- 39:36Speaker 2: She's going to say, my mom set a role you know,
- 39:39Speaker 2: she's a role model for me, just like an stay
- 39:41Speaker 2: at home mom that that daughter will say about her
- 39:44Speaker 2: mom or son, My mom was there every day and
- 39:47Speaker 2: did this, whereas you two will have the perspective of
- 39:52Speaker 2: it's okay to go out and work and it's okay
- 39:53Speaker 2: to have a family and have a full time career.
- 39:56Speaker 2: And I think, you know, I try to tell Lala
- 39:58Speaker 2: because she goes, you know, up and down tears, you know,
- 40:01Speaker 2: while leaving my baby. I'm like, you are in it
- 40:04Speaker 2: every day you come back from the set and you
- 40:08Speaker 2: sit there in the middle of the night. Why I
- 40:10Speaker 2: snore and don't hear a friggin thing, you know, breastfeeding, feeding,
- 40:15Speaker 2: changing diapers. So it's like, you know, you're you're a
- 40:18Speaker 2: wonder woman. And I think you you know, you just
- 40:19Speaker 2: have to or Superman, you just have to, like you said,
- 40:23Speaker 2: you have to just own that you're a successful, strong woman,
- 40:28Speaker 2: like you know, both of you, and and and women
- 40:30Speaker 2: who choose careers. I know they feel guilt. I see
- 40:34Speaker 2: it every day with her. Every day she asks me,
- 40:37Speaker 2: am I a good moming. Stop you are the best?
- 40:40Speaker 2: You're the best.
- 40:41Speaker 1: I said it this morning, Catherine. I was like, you
- 40:43Speaker 1: want to know what would make me feel really good
- 40:44Speaker 1: right now is if you told me that I'm a
- 40:46Speaker 1: good mom.
- 40:46Speaker 3: I'm like, every day everything.
- 40:48Speaker 1: I'm like, I just need to hear it right now.
- 40:49Speaker 5: Just just the fact that you are wondering that and
- 40:53Speaker 5: you're worried about it, like you're a good mom, and.
- 40:55Speaker 4: By the way, enjoy this time right now and go
- 40:59Speaker 4: out and.
- 40:59Speaker 5: Get shit it done because she has no idea what's going.
- 41:03Speaker 1: On, like, so I say.
- 41:06Speaker 5: Only just now, like, mom, don't go upstairs. My home
- 41:09Speaker 5: office is upstairs. He has no idea that I was
- 41:13Speaker 5: flying all over the country when he was two months old,
- 41:16Speaker 5: or even he doesn't even remember when I used to
- 41:19Speaker 5: go into an office and that was just eighteen months ago.
- 41:22Speaker 3: Wow.
- 41:22Speaker 4: Yeah, zero recollection zero.
- 41:26Speaker 5: He only knows life and a mask and mommy works upstairs.
- 41:29Speaker 4: So she has no idea.
- 41:31Speaker 3: Honey, I.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Just want to say I agree. And I said to her,
- 41:35Speaker 2: I said, babe, once she starts preschool, learn from me.
- 41:39Speaker 2: Once they start elementary school and they remember, shit, oh,
- 41:43Speaker 2: mommy's got to go to New York for two days.
- 41:46Speaker 3: They know right now, surely wants the bottle, surely wants
- 41:50Speaker 3: the bottle, and to just google.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Gotta right totally. Yeah, So what was it? What was
- 41:55Speaker 1: your what was your first trip if you remember away
- 41:58Speaker 1: from your baby that you had to take and did
- 42:00Speaker 1: you leave him at home or did you bring someone
- 42:03Speaker 1: to help.
- 42:04Speaker 5: No, I left my baby at home. We had our
- 42:07Speaker 5: baby nurse for about four and a half months. And
- 42:09Speaker 5: that was so during that time, I just did everything,
- 42:13Speaker 5: you know, I because I felt more comfortable having somebody
- 42:16Speaker 5: who was there, you know, all night.
- 42:17Speaker 4: I think I went to New York.
- 42:21Speaker 5: I mean I did so many trips. I don't remember
- 42:23Speaker 5: what the first one is, but you know it was
- 42:25Speaker 5: certainly New York, certainly Minnesota tons of times. But that's
- 42:29Speaker 5: where targets located. San Francisco, Europe.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Like I've you know, oh you you were working, hustling.
- 42:37Speaker 3: Working, But that's what I say.
- 42:38Speaker 2: It's like, you know, I know that we bring the
- 42:41Speaker 2: baby on some of the little trips with down, but yeah,
- 42:43Speaker 2: it's okay for you to get on a plane and
- 42:45Speaker 2: go to New York for.
- 42:46Speaker 3: Three days because right now is the time, Like she's saying,
- 42:49Speaker 3: I agree with that.
- 42:50Speaker 1: We have we have Bravocon coming up. And I was
- 42:53Speaker 1: talking to my friend Sheena, who's also on the show,
- 42:56Speaker 1: who has a three month old.
- 42:58Speaker 4: Oh I know, Sheena, yes, And you know, we were going.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Back and forth like do we bring our babies or
- 43:03Speaker 1: do we not? For them? Obviously for us, we selfishly
- 43:06Speaker 1: want them there just because they're a part of us.
- 43:10Speaker 1: It would be a nightmare, Like I already know that
- 43:12Speaker 1: there would be a lot of work, but now we've
- 43:16Speaker 1: decided we're going to leave them home, and I'm like,
- 43:19Speaker 1: I have anxiety about it at night, you know, because
- 43:22Speaker 1: I haven't left her yet.
- 43:25Speaker 4: I understand, but it's better for you.
- 43:27Speaker 5: To go get in, get out, get it done, come
- 43:30Speaker 5: home faster.
- 43:31Speaker 3: You know.
- 43:31Speaker 5: I felt like it would I would have to be
- 43:33Speaker 5: there longer if he was there and settle him in
- 43:36Speaker 5: and like to not disrupt her routine right and her
- 43:41Speaker 5: you know flow.
- 43:43Speaker 4: You know, it's going to be great, and you know
- 43:46Speaker 4: great by the way, be.
- 43:49Speaker 5: In the mindset of work, go get it done right
- 43:51Speaker 5: by home.
- 43:52Speaker 1: You know, I totally like that.
- 43:54Speaker 3: I also think that you're going to be better on that.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Trip than you would because you would every five seconds
- 44:01Speaker 2: be asking me to go to the hotel and check
- 44:04Speaker 2: on our child, but in not.
- 44:06Speaker 3: Being able to be present. Just get your work done,
- 44:07Speaker 3: you know. You know, are like, we had a night.
- 44:10Speaker 2: Nurse for four plus months two and now we're into
- 44:13Speaker 2: the nanny you know phase, and she loves for nanny.
- 44:17Speaker 2: She went through thirty interviews before we found her, and now.
- 44:21Speaker 3: She's like, you feel safe, Yeah.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Definitely, Yeah, so before we let you go be a
- 44:27Speaker 1: boss again. I saw this question on I was watching
- 44:31Speaker 1: The Big Shot with Bethany Frankel, and you're a boss
- 44:34Speaker 1: like she is, so and I want to know, is
- 44:36Speaker 1: there any is there any thing that you would say
- 44:40Speaker 1: no to? I mean, you're you're in the wine business,
- 44:43Speaker 1: you have a peril, you have the makeup, the skincare.
- 44:46Speaker 1: Is there anything that you'd be like, I don't need
- 44:49Speaker 1: that a part of my brand? You know.
- 44:52Speaker 5: I'm I'm trying to learn to say no to a lot, okay,
- 44:56Speaker 5: And I think that's you know, I think like there's
- 44:58Speaker 5: been this real hustle culture of wanting to do all
- 45:03Speaker 5: of the things as hard as you can. And I
- 45:06Speaker 5: think just now I feel like I'm in a position
- 45:08Speaker 5: in my career to be able to say no to things.
- 45:13Speaker 5: You know, I think if you mean, is there a
- 45:14Speaker 5: category of business I wouldn't get in? You know, I
- 45:19Speaker 5: I I think it's always going to be something that
- 45:22Speaker 5: I have interest in, because if you're interested in what
- 45:24Speaker 5: you do, you're just driven.
- 45:26Speaker 4: That much further.
- 45:27Speaker 5: And there's going to be, you know, plenty of things
- 45:29Speaker 5: like I'm probably not going to start a camping line,
- 45:32Speaker 5: much to my husband's dismay, but I'm not, you know.
- 45:37Speaker 5: But but but in general, like I'm trying to say
- 45:40Speaker 5: no to more stuff I can.
- 45:43Speaker 3: LAA.
- 45:45Speaker 2: This is probably the best podcast. I feel like if
- 45:48Speaker 2: you absorb.
- 45:50Speaker 3: This, oh.
- 45:52Speaker 2: Off and then she wakes up and she's like losing
- 45:55Speaker 2: her mind, and I'm like, honey, you've been saying yes everybody.
- 45:58Speaker 1: I I feel like when when you to the position
- 46:00Speaker 1: that you're in, you can start saying no. You know,
- 46:04Speaker 1: I'm still I like to say that we're off of
- 46:06Speaker 1: the floor. You know, we're above the ground, but we're
- 46:09Speaker 1: still hovering. We're still waiting to figure out how to
- 46:12Speaker 1: fly with what I'm you know, what I've created, And
- 46:16Speaker 1: I don't feel like I have the luxury yet to
- 46:19Speaker 1: say no to a lot of things. You know, I
- 46:22Speaker 1: have bills to pay, I have a lot of things
- 46:24Speaker 1: that come in and I just don't think that that's
- 46:26Speaker 1: something that I should do quite yet. Yeah.
- 46:30Speaker 5: Well, I mean you have sections of your life though,
- 46:32Speaker 5: right so some sections you may be further ahead in
- 46:36Speaker 5: and I can start saying no in those things. I mean,
- 46:38Speaker 5: for me, like, there are things and people like I
- 46:41Speaker 5: don't say no to, right then there are other things
- 46:44Speaker 5: that I've been doing for a while that I can start,
- 46:46Speaker 5: you know, so you just run.
- 46:49Speaker 3: Talking about when.
- 46:51Speaker 2: I say when I say, she say no, I mean
- 46:53Speaker 2: like the makeup line is really thriving, right, And then
- 46:57Speaker 2: she'll go start three more businesses.
- 46:59Speaker 3: But that'sbody will come from the back and say, you
- 47:01Speaker 3: want to start this business, and I'm.
- 47:03Speaker 2: Like, law, take a beat, like grow the three things
- 47:06Speaker 2: you have right now, take those to the top, and
- 47:10Speaker 2: then kind of go down that road.
- 47:12Speaker 3: Because because she gets very like she wants.
- 47:15Speaker 2: To get it all done, she never wants to quit,
- 47:17Speaker 2: she never wants to stop. So there then then there
- 47:21Speaker 2: starts to be a little too much of herself given.
- 47:24Speaker 3: And I worry about her in your and her.
- 47:27Speaker 2: Sanity because you know, I handle stress like I love
- 47:31Speaker 2: the stress.
- 47:31Speaker 3: I can't get enough of it.
- 47:33Speaker 2: She's somebody that she she deals with it all day long.
- 47:37Speaker 2: But sometimes it'll just too much, too much, too much,
- 47:41Speaker 2: too much, right and now being a mom, but yeah.
- 47:44Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I mean also, you're leveraging your face and
- 47:48Speaker 5: your being in a way that I'm not, and I
- 47:50Speaker 5: think that is absolutely exhausting.
- 47:55Speaker 4: You know. It's that you know, when you when it's
- 47:58Speaker 4: about your face.
- 47:59Speaker 5: When I have to do something, you know, a TV appearance,
- 48:04Speaker 5: you know, appearing at a conference or whatever, that's performing
- 48:07Speaker 5: that takes so much energy. So you can't do that
- 48:10Speaker 5: as much as you can do a behind the scenes
- 48:13Speaker 5: kind of a job.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Right now, that is a great see like from so much, but.
- 48:19Speaker 3: Honestly, honestly, that is such a great point. I didn't
- 48:22Speaker 3: even think about that.
- 48:23Speaker 2: When I'm making movies, I'm behind the scenes, I can
- 48:26Speaker 2: do six at one time, negotiate because but when I
- 48:30Speaker 2: go on her show and I have to film literally
- 48:33Speaker 2: two days in one week for three.
- 48:35Speaker 3: Hours in the office, I feel you have to can nap.
- 48:38Speaker 3: I need like, yes time.
- 48:39Speaker 2: So she does it five days a week and does all.
- 48:43Speaker 2: I agree, babe, because the difference is that you're right,
- 48:46Speaker 2: your face is out there, your being is out there.
- 48:48Speaker 2: Most of our stuff we're sitting, you know, behind the scenes,
- 48:52Speaker 2: and that's where I think you start to get exhausted,
- 48:55Speaker 2: right you know. But yeah, that's great advice.
- 48:57Speaker 5: And you know, the show has given you a platform
- 49:00Speaker 5: now to go and create something bigger, and I do
- 49:04Speaker 5: think how you handled it over the next couple of
- 49:07Speaker 5: years is going to be so important for your longevity.
- 49:10Speaker 5: And that might mean saying no to a bunch of,
- 49:14Speaker 5: you know, opportunistic things, because you want to focus on
- 49:17Speaker 5: what's gonna send you beyond this this career today.
- 49:22Speaker 1: No, You're absolutely right. I think about that all the time,
- 49:24Speaker 1: and I'm taking your advice great advice.
- 49:26Speaker 2: I want to ask you a question, Catherine, what's your
- 49:28Speaker 2: favorite episode on the show?
- 49:30Speaker 1: Do you have a favorite episode that you.
- 49:34Speaker 3: Can't all my friends before I ever met her, I.
- 49:39Speaker 5: Mean, like for me, you know, season two, like Stassy,
- 49:45Speaker 5: the whole Kristen thing. I mean, it's like Vanderpunk Rules
- 49:50Speaker 5: is the best show that's ever been on television period,
- 49:54Speaker 5: end of story, Like you could not make that up,
- 49:59Speaker 5: you know, Like I couldn't script something like that.
- 50:02Speaker 4: So I think, like it's gotta be in that, you know,
- 50:07Speaker 4: in that season.
- 50:08Speaker 5: I mean, I think there were some great episodes with
- 50:11Speaker 5: you and James the pasta, like there were just you know,
- 50:15Speaker 5: she does so many.
- 50:16Speaker 2: She does understand that like half of my Hollywood community
- 50:19Speaker 2: that like like and I'm just I'm gonna name drop
- 50:23Speaker 2: one person, but Emma Coscoff, who's one of my best friends,
- 50:26Speaker 2: who's Martin Scorsese's partner, like literally showed up at the
- 50:30Speaker 2: season finale of the last season, just to see everybody
- 50:34Speaker 2: she's like and I was like, kind of, that is
- 50:36Speaker 2: the power of your show, like we love it. And
- 50:38Speaker 2: season two was insanity.
- 50:42Speaker 1: During the pandemic because I'm I had never seen an
- 50:45Speaker 1: episode of inter Bump Rules that I wasn't on because
- 50:49Speaker 1: I'm that being I guess, but I started watching it
- 50:54Speaker 1: from the beginning and I was like, yeah, damn, this
- 50:57Speaker 1: is like great TV. And I don't know if I
- 50:59Speaker 1: should feel like honored that I get to be a
- 51:02Speaker 1: part of it, or if I should like kind of
- 51:04Speaker 1: question my mental states because they're crazy and.
- 51:09Speaker 4: It is very well watch it. If you watched it,
- 51:12Speaker 4: you may not have done it.
- 51:13Speaker 1: By the way, it's true.
- 51:15Speaker 2: I mean season two, season three, what they did. I
- 51:18Speaker 2: used to tell friends of mine, this cast is like gold.
- 51:23Speaker 3: I mean, I don't want them to go anywhere. It's unreal.
- 51:27Speaker 5: How could they possibly find this perfect comp I just
- 51:33Speaker 5: anyone who's never watched the show, I say, just go
- 51:36Speaker 5: start at season one. This is the greatest gift I'm
- 51:39Speaker 5: ever going to give you. I wish I could live.
- 51:43Speaker 4: Through you again. And seeing it for the first time,
- 51:45Speaker 4: oh my gosh.
- 51:45Speaker 1: I love hearing that and.
- 51:48Speaker 3: I would say to her she never watched the show.
- 51:50Speaker 2: Like the first early season, I said, you don't understand
- 51:52Speaker 2: why we all feel this way.
- 51:55Speaker 3: Now, I know the first three seasons you get it,
- 51:57Speaker 3: But I mean it was like days I just going backwards.
- 52:01Speaker 2: I would call Emma. There were days where I'll call
- 52:04Speaker 2: them and say, this can't be really like.
- 52:06Speaker 3: This is too it's scripted. It's so insane perfect, it's
- 52:11Speaker 3: too perfect, right perfect.
- 52:12Speaker 5: I mean, are the producers just amazing or is it
- 52:16Speaker 5: just these perfect people.
- 52:18Speaker 1: I think that the way that they edit the show,
- 52:22Speaker 1: they make it so funny, but like we're really just
- 52:26Speaker 1: that insane. Like I sit there and when things are happening,
- 52:31Speaker 1: I sometimes have out of body experiences and I'm like,
- 52:34Speaker 1: are we really like talking about this stuff?
- 52:37Speaker 2: I'll give you one. I'll give you one and sight first.
- 52:39Speaker 2: I definitely think the producers are very talented.
- 52:43Speaker 1: Of course, everyone on the show is amazing, but.
- 52:45Speaker 2: I do think that they have lightning in a bottle.
- 52:47Speaker 2: I think that that the whole cast who they how
- 52:51Speaker 2: they put it together, and these personalities. But I'll just
- 52:53Speaker 2: say this from an outsider, because even if I'm in
- 52:56Speaker 2: the show, I'm still an outsider looking in the season
- 53:00Speaker 2: finale and off the record, I'll tell you, but yeah,
- 53:05Speaker 2: I was sitting there just having a dinner with everybody,
- 53:10Speaker 2: and it's like, all of a sudden Fourth of July happens,
- 53:13Speaker 2: and I'm like, what is fucking going on?
- 53:16Speaker 3: It's everywhere, It's insanity. It's cam this season, this season, and.
- 53:20Speaker 2: I'm looking like I forget that they have cameras even
- 53:24Speaker 2: around me, and I'm I can't help myself.
- 53:26Speaker 3: I check out and I start watching like I'm at home.
- 53:29Speaker 2: I mean, it's unbelievable what they do and they are
- 53:33Speaker 2: they I really believe.
- 53:34Speaker 3: That this cast them. It is lighter than a bottle.
- 53:38Speaker 1: They just have this thing that we're very resilient. I
- 53:41Speaker 1: think that's why people think that it's scripted, because our
- 53:43Speaker 1: bounce back is so on point that it's like normal
- 53:46Speaker 1: people like you sleep with my sorry, sleep with my boyfriend,
- 53:50Speaker 1: like we're not friends anymore. But this group is like,
- 53:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna get over it. Just give me something.
- 53:56Speaker 5: So at that age, you're just so messed up and
- 53:59Speaker 5: you just you know, you just you really do it.
- 54:03Speaker 2: But it's so real, I know real, and none of
- 54:06Speaker 2: it I've been I've been around for many years watching her,
- 54:10Speaker 2: you know, do her thing, and then just recently and
- 54:13Speaker 2: I'll tell you you know, people will come up and
- 54:15Speaker 2: ask is it scripted? These people wouldn't know how to
- 54:17Speaker 2: do with the script if you gave it to right,
- 54:19Speaker 2: it's so raw, insane great that yeah, it's all that.
- 54:26Speaker 5: You were the greatest gift at the right time with
- 54:29Speaker 5: that click, just like you know most new cast members.
- 54:33Speaker 4: You're like, no, no, no, no, no, go mess.
- 54:35Speaker 1: This up right, like we have a good thing that's not.
- 54:39Speaker 4: Exactly what we needed at that time.
- 54:41Speaker 1: Oh, Catherine, that means so happy. Well, thank you so
- 54:45Speaker 1: much for all of the compliments and watching the show
- 54:48Speaker 1: and most importantly being on the podcast today.
- 54:50Speaker 5: We really appreciate it, you guys, thank you, thank you
- 54:54Speaker 5: guys for having me.
- 54:55Speaker 1: Of course we'll talk soon, I hope.
- 54:57Speaker 4: Okay, call me anytime.
- 54:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that's how you upon that by baby
- 55:02Speaker 4: M
