- 0:30a bar brawl, and you jammed a jagged neck right up my heart spot.
- 0:34I guess I just wasn't meant to be happy, or handsome or anything.
- 0:38Really, what a deep tormented soul. Four Finger Discount dude. Welcome
- 1:00to forfigure this gap, the podcast where we're all a little bit touched in
- 1:03the head. This week where hits review episode h b F one nine.
- 1:07It is mon Lisa, I am Dando and I am guy, and yes,
- 1:11it's pleasure to be talking about an episode that is slightly better than the
- 1:15previous episode Gi Doe, which neither Dan Do or I enjoyed all that much.
- 1:19This one I kind of enjoyed a bit. Yeah, well, when
- 1:23you think about how bad last ones was, it would have to be pretty
- 1:26horrific to get worse than that. This last week was an absolute, absolute
- 1:29shit show. Was a gi annoyed grunt GI dope the official say annoyed grunt?
- 1:34I really do. I think that's a shitty gimmick that I will not
- 1:38play into it. Okay, yes, but yeah that was That was not
- 1:41good last week, but thankfully this week was. It was definitely much much
- 1:44better. I there's something about Mo right. I feel like, as a
- 1:48kid, I didn't really appreciate Mo. He's just this grumbly old man.
- 1:51The older I get, the more I relate to him, I feel like,
- 1:53what did I write down? The more life beats you down, the
- 1:56more you relate to Mo most like he's the guy who represents that part of
- 2:00you, which, whether you want to admit to it or not, is
- 2:01a small part of you somewhere that resents the part that goes what could have
- 2:05been? You know? Oh yes, he's like you know that part of
- 2:07you that going like just if only I had done that, or if only
- 2:10I'd reached my dreams of this. I mean, I am. I love
- 2:13my life at the moment, getting to talk about the Simpsons for a living
- 2:15and working with yourself and married to kids. I could not complain. I'm
- 2:20in my perfect place. There's also a part of you that goes, no,
- 2:23what about it become a footballer or what have I been a major movie
- 2:25star or something? You know. Everyone, yes, does think about the
- 2:30road not traveled or the card's not quite falling away in certain certain situations.
- 2:35But look, I think both you and I are fairly happy fellows, fairly
- 2:38content with our with our lives. Dando seems downright stoked with his. I'm
- 2:44pretty happy with my You should be as well, sir. I am indeed,
- 2:46I am indeed. But yes, MO does speak to all of us,
- 2:51or speak for all of us in some way. Yeah, I never
- 2:53you just to look forward to the mo Ones when I was, like I
- 2:54said, when I was a kid. But now whenever I see there's most
- 2:57centric one coming up, I'm like, I know, I'm gonna like this.
- 3:00Yeah, even if the wheels do seem to be spinning a little bit.
- 3:02I mean, MO is kind of a little bit one note as a
- 3:07character. Ah, Jesus, babe, I hate my life and I never
- 3:10I hate everything else. You know, it's like which is entertaining to some
- 3:15degree. I mean, I don't think you're going to have too many mole
- 3:16episodes or too many most centric episodes per season, but I think you're right.
- 3:23When he's front and center in an episode, it's usually going to be
- 3:27something something entertaining. Yeah, And normally with Lisa episodes and kind of like
- 3:31I'm touching go of Lisa. No. Sometimes I feel like I've said this
- 3:36before in the podcast, that the writer's sort of voice their own sort of
- 3:38griefs through to this eight year old, which can become really really annoying.
- 3:40Like last week she said something about, you know, the man coming to
- 3:45try and take over the regional power, and just it's horseshit. It's a
- 3:49little inconsistent. Yeah, yeah, I mean what Sometimes she's ready to be
- 3:53fronting the United Nations like Grete Tunberg, and sometimes she's a little girl who
- 3:58likes ponies. I'm not saying these two things can't coexist, but you can't
- 4:01keep going back and forth all the time though. No, you've got to
- 4:04find a way to integrate those two things a little better. I mean personally,
- 4:09I think, yeah, the idea of someone who is very smart,
- 4:12kind of precocious, but also a child, No, I think that definitely
- 4:16exists. Yeah, but you just have to find a way to not oscillate
- 4:20too wildly between one and the other. Yeah. But I don't know.
- 4:26I thought this episode actually did not too bad a job with that. I
- 4:29mean, I think Lisa, they pushed it to extremes a bit. Lisa
- 4:31is clearly smart enough to recognize, oh, this guy might actually have hidden
- 4:35depths that other people aren't seeing, and also enough of a child to well,
- 4:41I think any person would probably be upset if, like, Hey,
- 4:44this person's taking credit for all my work and you know, all the stuff
- 4:46that I did to help them out. But it felt like a very childish
- 4:49and I don't mean that in a bad way, a very childlike response to
- 4:54betrayal, even though you know Lisa's probably had a heart dragged around plenty of
- 4:59times by either members of her family or members of the Springfield community. Plus,
- 5:02like you were saying earlier with Mo, he's one of those characters where
- 5:05it's very easy to not like him because he's such a horrible person at the
- 5:09best of times, right, But they did a great job here of establishing
- 5:14sympathy for Mo in a way that felt real and put Home aside. For
- 5:17the majority of the episode, I thought he was an absolute he was just
- 5:19annoying in this whole episode of just being a dick most of the time,
- 5:21blah blah blah. But I thought the way he didn't deliberately forget about mon
- 5:27I can buy into how that all happened. He was trying to remember,
- 5:29he was trying to remember, and then something else came up, which he
- 5:31just assumed was what he was supposed to remember because he couldn't be he couldn't
- 5:34remember, right, So don't forget what he forgot. And I thought you
- 5:38felt so sorry for Mo because he said he goes I don't normally care about
- 5:41my birthdays, but someone's finally said I was trying to make an effort for
- 5:44me. You know, sometimes we just like someone cares, like I'm really
- 5:47excited for this, and when they let you down. Sometimes like sometimes you
- 5:50invite you have a birthday party and then you know, the final hour or
- 5:55two before the party, you're just waiting for those oh I'm so so I'm
- 5:58not feeling well. It always happened when you're a parent, right, and
- 6:00anyone who's a parent that can can totally relate to this. Holy's third birthday
- 6:03party was last weekend. Right, we invited about twenty people. About fourteen
- 6:08ended up showing up. Of the kids right or the last minute on Sunday.
- 6:11Oh, they've worked up with an I infection, they've worked up sick.
- 6:13I'm like, oh, I looked quite fine on Monday morning when're dropping
- 6:15off a daycare though, like the next day, you know what I mean.
- 6:18I'm just like, it just happens. People just stay. Kids are
- 6:21a great excuse for Canceler's not going to a party. But it's just like
- 6:25there's always disappointment. People are no damn good and I'm one of them.
- 6:30I mean, I times have used my kids to not go to an event,
- 6:32and that's the good thing. But a child's birthday party, make the
- 6:35fucking effort, absolutely. I mean, look, before we hit record on
- 6:40today's episode and I were talking about very well, I think I was mainly
- 6:44talking about various occasions of it coming. I'm like, ah, God,
- 6:46this is always death. Did you see the mem I put up recently actually
- 6:50created by the man who I had on last week so or this week's fortuna
- 6:54extra Jack nishlar right. The meme started with Bart sneaking out the top right
- 6:57and said me at fifteen, sneaking out of home to go get waste in
- 7:00the field somewhere. The next one was Molloyd twickling his must have seen me
- 7:02at thirty five thinking the way to get out of the Oh, dear,
- 7:08you've never related to a meet more at all? Now, Sorry, I'm
- 7:13sorry tracking a bit here, but yeah, Lloyd was voiced by Kat sam
- 7:16Neil Sam. Yeah, he's traveling at the moment. He was on Australian
- 7:19Story, which shows here in Australia on the ABC. It's a bit of
- 7:24a documentary program. They sort of focus on as the toll, just one
- 7:27story per episode, and they featured Sam Neil. First of all, Sam
- 7:31Neil's like close to eighty's seventy six years old and shit is it that?
- 7:35Yeah? And I suppose he was old in fucking Jurrassic Park. He felt
- 7:40old to like four year old me. Yeah, I'm saying I'm worried about
- 7:45thirty more guys right now. Very good I'm not saying I'm worrying about the
- 7:49state of my relationship, but I've watched Beckham, the Beckham documentary with Yeah,
- 7:54and then we're watching this this thing on Sam Neil and a couple of
- 7:57times like wow, these are good looking roaster. I'm like, oh damn.
- 8:03Having said that, I was on he's talking about Beckham. She thought
- 8:07Beckham was very nickle. Looked at Beckham, She's like, what happened to
- 8:09his face? Like, She's like, his face doesn't move, And I'm
- 8:11like, you should see, Victoria. Neither of their faces move when they
- 8:15speak anymore. It's just like their eyes don't move anywhere. Like the mouth
- 8:18moves, but nothing else. It's like when Conan used to do that fucking
- 8:22sportsnegger thinks of the mouth, his mouth, His face doesn't move, mate.
- 8:24No, there's no emotion in their faces anymore. Oh, there's plenty
- 8:28of emotion in Sam Neil's face, even though he is I believe seventy six
- 8:31years old. But he's just got the silver Fox then going on or not
- 8:33mostly struggling with chemo. Well, yeah, he's he's bounced back from it
- 8:37apparently, but yes, he's taking a very I'd say a good attitude towards
- 8:41life and death. I mean he's saying, look, I've got this cancer
- 8:45is eventually going to bump me off. I'm on this drug at the moment
- 8:46that's keeping it at bay, but you know, eventually that's not gonna stop
- 8:48working. I'm not afraid of death, but I'd like to sort of stick
- 8:54around from my grand gets a little longer and I've got some things I'd like
- 8:56to do. And I'm like, damn, Sam, Now you're the fucking
- 8:58coolest. Yeah, people shout out to Sam Neil, who Yes, we're
- 9:03fans of you, Sam, and we hope you'd be a fan of Fourthing
- 9:05a disco out if you listen. Social media gave me a double head of
- 9:09shit shitness on the weekend. It might have been last week with Sam Neil's
- 9:11news and it followed up with how Bruce Willis is just essentially mute. Now
- 9:16yes it's non response, and I was like, oh man, that was
- 9:20terribly sad. That's incredibly sad. Because our American friends, if you have
- 9:24the service Hulu, you'll be able to watch the great TV show Moonlighting,
- 9:28which brought Bruce to prominence. And I don't know, I mean, I
- 9:31think in maybe over the well, certainly in the two thousands movie, audience
- 9:35has come to recognize Bruce Willis as kind of like these the strong silent type
- 9:37you a bit surly. You know, back when you first started, he
- 9:41was just this incredibly verbally dexterous performer just doing justice of this these incredibly you
- 9:48know, wordy witty scripts. And the fact that now he's just sort of
- 9:52not talking, Yeah, it makes one really sad. It's not sad though,
- 9:56the fact that you're now getting more forfing a discit in your ears every
- 9:58single week with Fourthing disc extra every Tuesday name and I've noticed, but every
- 10:01single Tuesday, because you guys have been in a rude team for the last
- 10:03eight years, every Thursday here in Australia we drop an episode of four Foring
- 10:07a discount. We're now Fourthing a Discount extra. You should come on sometimes
- 10:09we should do one next week. What do we do on next week?
- 10:11I'm doing enough do any extra, but I'd be happy to. But basically
- 10:16every Tuesday now I speak to somebody in the Simpsons community just about their love
- 10:22of the show, and just you know, we pick a particular topic.
- 10:24So last week we did the most gruesome deaths in Treasahara did that with Aliot
- 10:26Joe O'Neil from the Simpsons Index. This week, I spoke to Jack Knishler
- 10:31about just Simpsons ship posting in general. We've also got some guest lined up
- 10:33from the show, because sometimes it's just gonna be like an interview, not
- 10:35an intividic conversation like Carolyn and Meine. Classic Simpsons writer David Silverman, Mark
- 10:39Kirklan, Maggie Roswell, Mike Reese are all going to come on the show
- 10:41at some point of all agreed, So make sure you check out Fourthing a
- 10:45discount extra as well, cause I guarantee you love. It's just a bit
- 10:46of a separation from just the normal reviews. It's just sitting around talking about
- 10:50the Simpsons. If you're getting high end names like that, you certainly don't
- 10:54need guys. Why not because I don't want to, because Tuesday's made deep.
- 11:01I'd rather watch the fuck Speaking of which spooky season as we have frequently
- 11:09alluded to during the month of October, but we're going to take advantage of
- 11:11that by Brendan Dando, a pale guy Davis, and some guy named Mitch
- 11:16Grenter all getting together via the Wonders of Technology. We're not going to be
- 11:20in the same room because we kill each other, but we're going to talk
- 11:24about John Carpenter's nineteen eighty spooky classic for Spooky Season, The Fog. We
- 11:28are indeed a very special movie Guys episode. Yes, looking forward to that
- 11:33and that will be dropping on Halloween. E oh my gosh to look at
- 11:37for that one in your ears Halloween Ey. For all you supporters of ours
- 11:39on patron, I forget. If you support us on Patreon, you get
- 11:41access to Talking Si Fel, which is now exclusive on Patreons, so the
- 11:45first three seasons available for free, but going forth from season four you get

- 11:50in season two now is available on our Patreon, as well as Tales of
- 11:54Futurama, the Movie, Guys, Mitch and Dana Show, and so much
- 11:56more. Patreon definitely worth it, as I'd discovered recently because I recently well,
- 12:01I thought I've grabbed to a new phone. I think the new phone
- 12:03might be a bit of a downgrade, but had to reload my podcast app
- 12:09onto it, and I was like, I'm not getting every episode of four
- 12:11Finger Discount here, and it was one of the persons who helps make it.
- 12:15I think I should so I did. Were you not? Was it
- 12:16because the old phone wasn't up updated? Yes, okay, my new phone
- 12:20didn't. It was like, okay, I've got I'm getting just the episode.
- 12:22I've got regular ass four finger Discount, which is fine. It gets
- 12:26the job done. But it's like, what about some of that sweet,
- 12:30sweet Petreon stuff? So Dan I said, Okay, here's a link,
- 12:33and I'm like, this link is working, Like, oh guy, I
- 12:39come on the link and it's an RSS feed. I'm like, oh man,
- 12:41I don't I know. I was, I was fine, I'm like,
- 12:43it's fine with it is ad. So basically, with Patreon, you
- 12:46get the feed, it's your exclusive feed for being a supporter, and you
- 12:48add that to your podcast app and then you get the access fast I have.
- 12:52I eventually worked this out once I clicked a few things and all that
- 12:54kind of thing. Yes, but I could I could feel Dano's ort of
- 13:00making guy in technology. But it all worked out, and now I too,
- 13:05am pretty to all these episodes. I basically I went back and listened
- 13:07to our review of Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Well that was fun. Did
- 13:11you listened to it? I did, I've never really listened to it.
- 13:15Gremins one. Did he listened to that one? Yeah? I listened to
- 13:16that one after all? Right now, I didn't even mean to do this
- 13:20silky segue like you did before when we shifted from Bruce Willis into you know
- 13:24What's not bad? Did But there's a bit in this episode where you know
- 13:31they're hiding under the table. Yeah, scuttling, Yeah, doing all the
- 13:35crab scuttling to avoid mo and the music. I'm like, that's Pee Wee
- 13:39music. I'm pretty sure that's music. Wasn't a Big Adventure? Was it?
- 13:43It sounded like it's certainly. Honestly, they mentioned references on the wiki
- 13:46page. There's no reference to it on the unless Danny Elfman. It sounded
- 13:52like Simpsons when he did the intro, obviously, but Danny elfmanes didn't it.
- 13:56It sounded and distinctly Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Is it a xylophone that
- 14:01he uses? Danny Effan's like a lot of thing that Danny Elfman uses.
- 14:05That guy's in the news recently. Oh, but I'd say the worst thing
- 14:11is whenever they sort of talking about Danny Elfman's alleged sexual misconduct, they're always
- 14:18using these recent pictures of him where he's doing live performances. And Danny Elffan's
- 14:22like in his late sixties, but he's obviously been trying to keep it tight.
- 14:24Shure, he's like thirty one years old. Life's just been rough to
- 14:26him. That could work his life. But it's you know, Danny with
- 14:33his long hair and his shirt off and he's got tats and kind of like
- 14:35that. You know, if this was a positive news story about Danny Elfman
- 14:41keeping it real, it's like, Wow, Danny's looking good for his la
- 14:43He's been like I think Danny might be the kind of guy whips his shirt
- 14:46off at any time for any reason, and you know, consent be damned.
- 14:52Look we enough to talk about that. You know where to go?
- 14:56Forget myself? Like who started my own here? And the answer is the
- 15:01side of justice. I am looking up here pee Wee Slash, the Simpsons,
- 15:05Peas Big Adventure, and I can't find anything pee wee music. Maybe
- 15:09it does sound those vibes, though it doesn't it Indeed, listeners, friends,
- 15:13patrons of the podcasts, if you think I'm on the money here,

- 15:35at gmail dot com. We've got some good ones this week, indeed,
- 15:39Yes, and we will then sort of hit you with all manner of spam
- 15:41because you hit us with your email. Yes, you want to make it.
- 15:46Become a supporter of as on Patreon anyway. But so this one here,
- 15:48So I had a lot of guest stars writers, right, I'm in
- 15:52two minds of it because they were fine, but I'm like, they didn't
- 15:54really add anything to the story. Not really, No, I mean,
- 15:58for me, they did because a least one of them was one of my
- 16:00favorite writers. No, Michael Shabn Okay, cool, I love that guy.
- 16:04I mean. And four, let's see the Amazing Adventures is the big
- 16:10one, right, Yeah, he He won the Pulza or the Penn Award
- 16:15for his novel The Amazing Adventures of Cavalier and Clay, which sort of like
- 16:18a it's a very loose retelling of the story of I think it's is it
- 16:25Seagull and Shooster who make your grand Superman? Maybe? I think I'm sure
- 16:30you'd be right. Yeah, yeah, like I think. Don't look at
- 16:33I know I'm right, given down to the year. Dare you try to
- 16:38verify me? But I remember reading. I mean when I was a pretentious
- 16:42little UNI student. I think back in either eighty eight, eighty nine,
- 16:47ninety or so, his debut novel came out, called The Mysteries of Pittsburgh.
- 16:51Picked up read it, loved it, thought this might be my guy,
- 16:53This could be one of my guys, and read a few more of
- 16:56his books, Wonder Boys, The Yiddish Policeman's Union, a lot of a
- 17:00lot of great short stories. Yeah, he's a really prolific guy. I
- 17:03went actually saw him live. He came to Melbourne a few years ago.
- 17:07Yeah, yeah, I was actually like the guy in the episode of By
- 17:11the Way. More a comment than a question, thank you for being such
- 17:14a genius. It was like, sit down, you suck. But honestly,
- 17:21if I'm the room with the guy that can say thanks for these books,
- 17:22man, they're great. So I was glad to see him. This
- 17:26guy, it's like another one of these doing the jerk off testion, But
- 17:32no, I was very happy to see him. But also, yeah,
- 17:33guys like Tom Wolf, Jonathan Franzen, I know, I noticed that they
- 17:37put Pinsion in with his question mark bag on his head. Didn't actually say
- 17:41anything this time around, but I dug that whole kind of thing, and
- 17:45that the man who kisses boys, so girls kiss boys, of course,
- 17:49that's what It's still one of my favorite girls, Lisa, boys kiss girls.
- 17:56That is like the the line that just epitomized Marge as thought process right
- 18:00everych because she thinks Lisa's made a genuine mistake. Absolutely sorry, I started
- 18:08rabbiting on about all the show that I'm into. What was it? We're
- 18:11just talking about the guest stars, how it was more of just cameos than
- 18:14sort of further in the story. Yeah, they were. It's almost like
- 18:18the story was a reason to get them into the show, and that's sometimes
- 18:21the case. And I think we've talked about episodes where it's been like,
- 18:22I think it's absolutely necessary to have this person in, and how much are
- 18:26they adding to the You're getting them in for name value, and I'm not
- 18:30sure. I don't think you're getting these guys in for I think they're getting
- 18:33these guys in because the people who write the show wanted them on the show.
- 18:36I imagine that would be the case. You'd probably have a bunch of
- 18:38like now no eight year olds going oh my god, friends in friends,
- 18:45but you know, a bunch of Harvard geeks like, oh my god,
- 18:48Jonathan Frands, it's coming in. What if I can get them to say
- 18:51my copy of you know the corrections in saying that that. The people who
- 18:53grew up with the show by this point would almost be graduating for UNI.
- 18:57So it's like this came out in where in two thousand and six, I
- 19:00was finishing high school, so we were of the age where we'd probably appreciate
- 19:06these guest stars. So it's like, I wonder by this point whether they're
- 19:07writing, like who were they writing the show for. Originally they were writing
- 19:11the show. They always said to be writing it for ourselves, so it's
- 19:12like, no, you're writing there for a kid audience. I think,
- 19:15Yeah, Initially, I wonder if they were still rutning it for a kid
- 19:18audience, or whether they're writing it for the kids who were once kids who
- 19:19are now. I guess by this point it feels like they're writing the show
- 19:22for themselves. By this point, though, I wonder if it's a one
- 19:25for me, one for them kind of thing. It's like, look,
- 19:26we'll do an episode that's you know, heavy on anti war yeah, or
- 19:32heavy on dumb one liners and obvious sight gags and all that kind of stuff,
- 19:34and then every once in a while, we'll do one where it looks
- 19:37like your nose good needs the corrections. Ah, he's referencing Johnathan Transit's novel.
- 19:44Honestly, the guest star that really felt like a gimmick and that didn't
- 19:49add much. The thing was the great J. K. Simmons is doing
- 19:52his Ja Jonah Jameson from Sam Raimi's Spider Man movies. It was literally just
- 19:56being him. He really was, and it's like, I gain, I
- 20:00mean, I don't know. I mean, the Spider Man movies were,
- 20:03of course popular. When did Spider Man two come out? That was like
- 20:06two I want to say, two thousand and five, five, Yes,
- 20:10okay, because because this, yeah, Spider Man, I'm looking up here
- 20:12Sam Raimi Spider Man trilogy, which is like still to this day. Probably
- 20:15it's not the most critically like acclaimed, but I think it's the most popular,
- 20:18right, It's the one everyone remembers, Like my mum, she probably
- 20:22doesn't remember the new ones, but she remembers the original ones because they were
- 20:23like, there weren't many superhero movies out at the time, so it stood
- 20:26out more. Where now it's like Spider Man just blends him with all the
- 20:30other fucking Avenger movies and everything else. Now I think prior to prior to
- 20:34Iron Man in like four by the way, oh okay, two and seven
- 20:37was three, which, yeah, that's where the wheels fall off a bit,
- 20:41because oh Samman, right, it was with Sandman and Venom and what's
- 20:45that it's the guy's name from Deden Stacey that played Sam Thomas Hayden Church.
- 20:48She was actually really good casting. He looked a hell of a lot like
- 20:51the Sandman from the comics. He's he's the heel in George of the Jungle
- 20:55and Alien Holly do not like that man. They love it when he falls
- 20:57over an elephant elephant poop. He's one of those guys that you kind of
- 21:02you see him in a lot of things, but it was never like the
- 21:03main star, never really broke through, I think, but Deddon Stacey was.
- 21:07He was ned. But like that show didn't succeed, you know it
- 21:11did, all right, I mean it was around for a few seasons,
- 21:12two seasons only two seasons. Yeah. I just remember him on this Guy's
- 21:17because he looks kind of grumbling, looks like he might not be that bright.
- 21:22He looks yeah, I mean, he kind of looks like he played
- 21:23the dumb jock. But then I remember seeing him on Deaden Stage Gun.
- 21:27I think he did like a Jerry Lewis in Personations only this guy's kind of
- 21:32weird and nend and Stacy here two seasons ninety ninety five sitcom. Yeah,
- 21:37because it was Deborah Messing, wasn't it. She was Yeah then she oh
- 21:42hey Grace and she was off to the races. Yeah. Yeah. Because
- 21:47funny when in the early two thousands, prior to wine Man, prior to
- 21:49the MCU sort of getting it getting the ball rolling, I mean, what
- 21:53do you have. You had the Spider Man movies, X Men and the
- 21:56X Men movies essentially, and you had the Batman once you begin very kid
- 22:00friendly. By the nineties, well there was a I mean, you didn't
- 22:03really have a Batman movie until Batman begins in two thousand, because last time
- 22:07was ninety seven. Yeah, so in two thousand, So its been five
- 22:11years between Spider Man one and you Batman movie and look out a few others,
- 22:14but I mean the ones that didn't really go anywhere, like the ben
- 22:17Affleck Daredevil. They made two Fantastic Four movies that Yeah, they were very
- 22:22popular again though, because they weren't many. Yeah, and you look at
- 22:26those now, like, oh my god, you were so early two thousands.
- 22:27I mean, they've got a lot of new metal on the soundtrack and
- 22:30the you know, the special effects are like you're still working out the kings
- 22:33of that CG. I actually like, oh, I remember Jessica alber It's
- 22:40like, oh, before he was Captain America, Chris Evans was the human
- 22:42Torch. Okay, yeah, yeah, have you seen the early nineties Fantastic
- 22:45Four? Never have It's like, so when he turns into the things like
- 22:49look at me, it's like the fucking most horrific thing ever I've got a
- 22:55story for it, right. I noticed the twoing guys the last d two
- 22:57before we get into the review of the episode. But I used to work
- 23:00with a guy when I was at Ford. Glenn was his name, right,
- 23:03but he was they used to call him, and it's not nice,
- 23:07but he used to He used to work the night shift in the what was
- 23:10it called the basement, cleaning out all the scrap or the or the they
- 23:14just call it. It was some fucking weird name. Anyways, it was
- 23:17like all the scrap that used to ge chopped off on the in the press
- 23:18machine. Have you talked about that in the past? So you had to
- 23:21did you have to go down and do that one? I thought about that,
- 23:22right. But the story is he is a big track. He is
- 23:25a big nerd, and everyone at FOD was like, oh no, fucking
- 23:27gosh, man, this used to make fun of this guy. But I
- 23:29was always like talking to him about Star Trek and Star Wars and things like
- 23:32that, and needs to love it, right, just like you know,
- 23:34everyone's a human being, everyone's just as equal. So I'm just talking to
- 23:37this guy because everyone used to hang shit on him. Anyways, talking about
- 23:40there was once a Fantastic Four movie that never got released, Like how I
- 23:42used to talk. I would give anything to a seat to see that movie.
- 23:45I'm like, pretty sure it's on YouTube. He's like, no,
- 23:48I've checked. I'm like, I'm pretty sure it's on YouTube. I got
- 23:52my phone out and I Fann like straight away, and he was like,
- 23:53I can't believe. He was like, he was like shaking. He was
- 23:56like, I've waited so long to watch this. And he went on a
- 23:59break and watched the whole movie. I sent him the link and he's like,
- 24:03I'm taking my break and he sat in the room for the whole time.
- 24:07I just watched the whole movie. I'm like, oh fucking came and
- 24:08you go into I'll work your shift foray. I'll cover it. God bless
- 24:11Glenn. You go watch this movie. I'll work doubles hard. I don't
- 24:14give a shit, you know. I was just like, so I went
- 24:15on that dawn. I'm like, I've made that man's day. You really
- 24:18haven't. You've made my day by telling me that story. That's lovely.
- 24:22He was just like, Oh waited so long to watch this. I've been
- 24:26singing the praises of YouTube for a while now. But I mean, honestly,
- 24:30you'll find so much stuff on there that you think has just been absolutely
- 24:33lost to the sands of time. It's impossible now to think of something that
- 24:37isn't on YouTube. Like, if something's not available on YouTube, it must
- 24:40be pretty fucking hard to find. But I mean, you know, I've
- 24:44thrown down decent money to get like, oh yeah, oh I love this
- 24:47Italian horror movie from the nineteen eighties and now it's on four K. Well,
- 24:49oh yeah, I'll get it from our pals of Amazon or whatever,
- 24:52friends of the show Amazon. Oh this four K RiPP has also been uploaded
- 25:02to YouTube, and you know, no one's going to spend all their days
- 25:04sort of like, hm, oh you have a blue this without my permission
- 25:07take it down? Well, I could have just watched it on YouTube,
- 25:11and it now just like and it's not a good state to be in.
- 25:15I know. We always talk up the the idea of physical media, right,
- 25:18and I love it. And we'll talk about Fine Destination recently, how
- 25:19it's going to buy the blue rays because they want the commentaries and things like
- 25:22that, and we're talking about the fog because I'm like, oh, the
- 25:25fog commentary. I've got on four K and I looked at like, oh,
- 25:26it's on YouTube, so I would have bought this movie I podocast wanted
- 25:30on four K. I didn't own it already, but you know, I
- 25:33now buy things for the commentary. But all the commentary are now on YouTube,
- 25:34so I'm like, I can just stream it and play comment tear on
- 25:37my phone. Yeah, even special features are all on YouTube now. Everything's
- 25:45on everything. Yeah, I mean, sorry, we are still side track
- 25:48and we're going to talk about Moe and a Lisa soon folks. But episode
- 25:52we will talk about it. It wasn't it. Yeah, this is gonna
- 25:55be very nerdy. I was looking for the DVD or the Blu ray of
- 26:00Texas chains Will Massacre three has apparently had like a pretty good documentary on the
- 26:04disc about, oh, you know, this movie had a tough time getting
- 26:07made and then it had a tough time getting released because they made a really
- 26:11gory version and it was like, oh no, we can't release this,
- 26:15it's too gory. I'm like, oh, I'd be really interested in watching
- 26:18that, But discs, you know, cost a shit ton I've done.
- 26:22If I'm that invested in it that I want to do that, Like Oh,
- 26:25well, I guess I've never seen this documentary YouTube. Oh there it
- 26:30is in all it's glory. So I watched it the other night and I'm
- 26:32like, okay, cool, I'm great and spend twenty five dollars on this.
- 26:33Correct, So it's much in the way that Bobby Hill says, I'm
- 26:41now like you. It's worth checking out our Speaking of the Hill podcast just
- 26:45for pass and what are you talking about it? Because which is morphed into
- 26:51all that shows? Now, just as Daniel will always mention that, I'll
- 26:55give you my fine it right now, I'm going to film you. So
- 26:56put up on our Patreon page of you saying hey, anyway, here we
- 26:59go this, so basically patrons, so all right, I'm recording guy right
- 27:03now, don't do it? What are you talking about? So, yeah,
- 27:07I got the hands now you know guys, Now you know I'm filmed
- 27:10myself. Now, now you know what we're talking about. What I'm laughing
- 27:12at every single time because also when I do Zoidberger to do that, but
- 27:17also when Dando would mention fruit pads, that's he would do the little jazz
- 27:22hands, I'll do jazz hands. I'll tenn his off. So yeah,
- 27:26now you know what it's like in the studio. There we go, So
- 27:29that'll go up in the Patreon group. Tell your friend we should do more
- 27:32of those. See, I hate technology when I've got to do like RSS
- 27:37feeds and things like that, I don't understand. But when you get to
- 27:41do things like that, it's like, oh, modern technology. Yeah,
- 27:41wonder, let's get into our favorite moment, shall we. Let's or if
- 27:47I ended your segue or your sidetrack. No, that's it. YouTube is
- 27:52killing physical media. My favorite all right, my favorite moments, I had
- 27:57a few. I watched the play on words in this one here, so
- 28:00I like the you know, you never take me alive Grim Reaper like that
- 28:03moment? I what mo and Tal? Yes, yeah, I've written a
- 28:08good one, March. Yeah. What I liked is they didn't play it
- 28:12up or anything like that. It just happened. Yeah, it just happened.
- 28:15But I'd like the Grim Reaper gag is what please go on with what
- 28:18you were enjoying though? Oh, basically the Grim gag, but just that
- 28:22with the Mow and teal because normally by season eighteen you must expected Marj you
- 28:26go, oh nice work, March right, put a sticker on a hand
- 28:30or something like that, like sort of just go how funny was that joke?
- 28:33Guys? It's just like, no, that was a good joke.
- 28:34You missed it, too bad? Too bad. It's one thing. I
- 28:37yeah, one of the things I didn't like about this episode was and it
- 28:41was early on and they didn't I don't think they did it too much.
- 28:42It was like, stop over explaining the jokes, guys. Yeah, I
- 28:45mean the whole anything of one. Yeah, yeah, when Grandpa Simpson was
- 28:49of a Hitler thing, yeah yeah, when he was throwing the jablin in
- 28:52the nineteen thirty six Olympics and instead he hits the assassin. He yeah,
- 28:57it almost killed Hitler. But see the assassin that was going to kill Hitler.
- 29:02I was like, you don't need to say it while it's actually happening.
- 29:04It's a pretty good visual gag of you know, the guy next to
- 29:07Hitler pulling out a gun about to shoot Hitler and he gets hit by a
- 29:11jab on. It's like the kids, I guess, kids what you may
- 29:12not get it, though, I guess it was the whole And I went
- 29:15at dinner with Hitler and we laughed about it afterwards. I was like,
- 29:18yeah, that's yeah, I didn't it didn't need to throw that in there,
- 29:19the joke being just he killed the assassin. Yeah. So I guess
- 29:23that's the main one that sort of leapt out of me as well. But
- 29:26they're doing that a bit like they certainly did it with g I No,
- 29:29I mean, you know, we please don't even talk about that episode.
- 29:32It's not sorry, that was my mistake. I Also, my other thing
- 29:34that I've got here is Millhouse calling Mos tell him I'm not here. I
- 29:40just got a kick out of that because that's usually Homer Millhouse callings one.
- 29:47Yeah. So Release is at Mo's and she's showing Mo that he's been published,
- 29:51and at the end he's like, oh, hey here, you going
- 29:52on your house? Tell him I'm not here. That's the end of the
- 29:55scene. Oh god, I missed that, bitch. Yeah, I'm just
- 29:56like, I'm just gonna gonna be laughing at it. Uh, do you
- 30:03have any other that's all my favorites. Yeah, what I enjoy I thought
- 30:07this episode did something very well in nailing the very fragile writer's ego. Well,
- 30:14I guess I'm inspired by my pale Jonathan friends and fans. Oh I
- 30:18guess I'm inspired by lb ok new you meant to see me a very nice
- 30:23guy. No in the episode, obviously, I'm not sure if he's how
- 30:29he's well regarded or not. Peram sure they wouldn't make this joke if he
- 30:32wasn't. Yeah, but I think friends and got in trouble ish because you
- 30:37remember Oprah's book Club, how that was like a big deal. Oprah Winfrey
- 30:41would do this thing where it's like my book of the summer is this I
- 30:45spom She'd be like free cards for everybody pass we're getting canceled for thath No,
- 30:56but like you go to Oprah's, it's like, guess you got to
- 31:00deare guys, Oh this ship, we get free ship imagine on the next
- 31:03day and it is like you are getting fruit past as low. She introduced
- 31:10it as I'll take it, but apparently it might have been the corrections by
- 31:17Jonathan Franzen. It was chosen as like Oprah's book Club selection and it gives
- 31:22you a real bump, you know, like her lock of the Week kind
- 31:25of thing. Yeah, pretty much. It's like, yeah, some things
- 31:26I'm into this week, and it's like this book's really good, and you
- 31:29know, if you know, you get on the show and you talk about
- 31:32it and yeah, it's generally wow, more people are going to buy your
- 31:36book as a result, and it would be better promotion at that time,
- 31:38at time number one New York Times bestseller or Oprah saying by this book,
- 31:41O s Yeah, I might be mistaken about this, and she may not
- 31:48have chosen all she may or friends and may just have said, uh,
- 31:52yeah, look getting chosen for Oprah's Book Club. It's yeah, it's kind
- 31:56of a market You're not a serious writer or something like that, which is
- 31:59weird because you know, plenty of serious writers got picked a z Oprah's Pick
- 32:01of the month. Yeah, and a lot of people are like Jonathan Fans
- 32:05and you're a snub. Probably it is, wouldn't you be? Yeah?
- 32:09Correct, But yeah, I think they nailed the whole writer's ego thing very
- 32:15well. Also the fact that writers, or at least grad students are free
- 32:17loaders because they'll just snap up free bread. That's meant for the ducks.
- 32:22When you're talking about you being pretentious grad student before I was like, I
- 32:25was met to meet enjoyed. Did you steal free brand? Oh yeah,
- 32:30Miga rain noodles, water, life saving when you got no money, oh
- 32:32very much. So next question, you there eating the past. It's time
- 32:37for some trut mister Davis. I'm going to read out the names of our

- 34:13like a one name like Madonna or cher or Heather and Sally like conjoined twins.
- 34:16It was Heather and Salad now that is Heather's just one person. Oh,
- 34:20the wrong person. God damn it, that's true. And of course
- 34:22Sally Hayward. Yes, apologies to Heather and to Sally Hayward. All right,
- 34:27hit me with your first tribute question. Oh okay, then what was
- 34:30Grandpa's number in Berlin? Oh? Sure, no, idea seven ten,
- 34:37seven ten. My question is how many events were there at the Senior Olympics.
- 34:42Oh, you'll be you'll be turning this age in twenty thirty one.
- 34:46H on, No, that's not right. Twenty forty one, okay,
- 34:51so seventy two, seventy two, yes, hey, I was like,
- 34:57I was like, what, guy's not this old? What's my mass is
- 34:59all wrong? Guys? Old, it's not that all right? What's the
- 35:02next one? Who was bumped from American poetry perspectives in favor of mo on
- 35:10the phone? But now, who was it? It's the great African American
- 35:14writer Maya Angelou? Okay? Were they putting on an offensive random accent on
- 35:17the phone because they didn't guess voices themselves? No, I'm guessing. I
- 35:22don't know who would have done that. I reckon it might have been Hankers
- 35:24Area, probably the King of the King of Offense. And I've only got
- 35:30two questions here. My final one is what was coming up? So the
- 35:32first day, when Moe was getting his award, I said, writers on
- 35:35writing. The next day, I said, tomorrow is Janitors on janetin correct?
- 35:38Yes, gol Verdale had laughter on tape? From which class? At?
- 35:45Which university? Was it eighty seven? Correct? At? I don't
- 35:51know where, Temple Universe, Temple University or hit me one warm. We'll
- 35:53get into our review of the episode. Okay, Then what was airing on
- 35:58Channel sixty two, according to was poem That's the one I didn't write down.
- 36:04That was Adult Desires, Adult Designs. Why did you not write that
- 36:07down? In said of Bloody in House check out, because I I missed
- 36:10the second one. I was like, I can't be bother going back.
- 36:13I missed the first one, and I was like, I remember the second
- 36:15one, And by the time I got to the one, like, do
- 36:15the second one remember? Channels? Oh? Yeah, they're literally gonna become
- 36:20a thing of the past. You mean you mean like Channel seven and Channel
- 36:23nine. Who watches that ship anymore? Not that many? Yeah? Like
- 36:27it's like you stream what you want on Netflix or even you go to like
- 36:30the I guess the channel ten app or whatever. But it's like I can't
- 36:32recall the last time I watched something in real time live on free day a
- 36:36television except for like in a sporting event. Well, yeah, I mean
- 36:37that Strange Story episode that I mentioned starring a friend of the pod Sam Neil.
- 36:44Yeah, I've missed it on the ab scene, like, oh,
- 36:46I watch it on ivie. Addicted to convenience people, there's no fear of
- 36:51missing something anymore now, is there? As there shouldn't be. Well,
- 36:53but I mean you could you could listen to this episode of four Finger discandt
- 36:57anytime. I guess that could be one way of just guaranteeing viewers at that
- 37:00point in time, saying we ain't gonna repeat, repeat this ever. But
- 37:04then it's just like someone's just gonna rip it put on YouTube. That is
- 37:07correct, Like you're never gonna you're never gonna miss something's been on TV now,
- 37:10you'll always be able to watch it somewhere. That is true. Interesting
- 37:14times we live in. Do you feel like there's going to be a time
- 37:16in say, fifteen twenty years from now where people will go on YouTube and
- 37:20be nostalgic for the commercials that are on TV right now, or do you
- 37:22think there are kids that there going? Do kids still know what commercials are?
- 37:25I don't know if they do. I don't think they do. I
- 37:28think they're more like I mean, I'm finding more and more people are making
- 37:31fun of the ads that are on podcasts. Yeah, like you know,
- 37:36do you you? Yeah, they they'll rip against Blue Apron or I think
- 37:39Rage Shadow Legends is the current big one. A lot of it's some like
- 37:45game you play on your phone like it's Yeah, at least a couple of
- 37:50podcasts lately've been talking about Yeah, broad togar By, Rage Shadow Legends,
- 37:52like and subscribe. It's like, oh poor old Raide or sportsback gel response,
- 38:00I spend all your money, I'm nothing responsible, that's yeah. I
- 38:02mean, I'd say the bulk of the ads that I've seen recently have been
- 38:06it's all betting agency. Are all betting ads, yeah, betting or booze.
- 38:08Yeah, because like you said, I mean, the main thing you
- 38:10watch on free to wear TV is sport, and the main things the advertised
- 38:14during sporting events are betting ads, betting and booze. The booze ads used
- 38:17to be awesome. That VB jingle is one of the all time great.
- 38:22Yeah, it's fantastic. Matter of fact, I kind of now was the
- 38:27guy that voiced that commercial? What a commercial? Nothing, nothing, nothing
- 38:30more Australian just put Honestly, listeners, you've never heard the VB jingle?
- 38:34I think we did in our Top ten TV Jingles podcast we did ages ago.
- 38:37Yeah, it's unbelievable. It's just all these classics watching the beat chopping
- 38:44some wood. But then he's like with the blue heeling next to him worked
- 38:47over first top nice cold beer. Yeah, and then the other one was
- 38:52the last, like there's that one, and then as the this ad is
- 38:55but he remember that one for cop draft. And then there was the the
- 39:00tongue. What the drink was? But it had satisfaction. What was that
- 39:04drink? It was like a light beer or something wasn't was it? Okay?
- 39:07Yeah, it was just so fact that song satisfaction. What a weird
- 39:12song. Anyway, it was a tongue that would come to life and everyone
- 39:15was just like have you seen the ad with the tongue? And then there
- 39:16was the Bundleboe with the Bears, the Polar Bears, the poly bears.
- 39:20Yeah, it was actually all I remember my ex BOFE named her ginger cat
- 39:24Bundy Bear. Oh really, okay, yeah, he sort of looked like
- 39:28a nice He looked like a nice class of rum with his with his orange
- 39:30coating. And there's now Funko pops for it. That's the Bundy's the it's
- 39:35the Coca Cola Polar Bear. Oh yeah, that was a big deal.
- 39:37It was a big deal. Yeah, it was indeed. And then they
- 39:39somehow incorporated Santa Claus as their mascot for a while. Didn't Coca Cola invent
- 39:44Santa Claus or what we think of a Santa Claus? Did they? I
- 39:46mean there's always this trading card set that was like Coca Cola trading card set,
- 39:51and it was like all different versions of Santa Claus. Yeah. I
- 39:52mean there's of course the myth of Father Christmas and Saint Nick and I mean
- 39:55Santa Claus is real, but they created the idea that the image of it
- 40:00that is correct, young listener, Santa Claus is indeed real. Yeah,
- 40:02but I don't know if it's one of those conspiracy theories when you know,
- 40:06you why does that did Coca Cola and the first thing that came out was
- 40:08invents Sanda. Well, that's because they're listening to me. That's because your
- 40:12computer's listenings you wire. The same just happened the other day, you know,
- 40:15when I was over with Lou when we were talking about something, and
- 40:21yeah, the next thing was like, I've never got an ad for this
- 40:22before, and now I got ads for it's one hundred percent. Yeah.
- 40:24So I says Coca Cola did not create Santa Claus, of course, because
- 40:28he is a real person, but co Cold created the image what we considered
- 40:31to be Santa Claus. And how it looks. I mean maybe the maybe
- 40:34the guy created Coca has seen Santa. This may won't be the case.
- 40:37I mean, that's why that's why they make cocky Cola red. Yeah.
- 40:40And plus, you know, I'm guessing that the actual Santa probably dresses like
- 40:45a nice navy blue three piece suit and no hat. But they thought,
- 40:51well, you know, I want to keep a low profile. Guys,
- 40:52can you maybe do the opposite. It's like, how about we give you
- 40:54a nice red suit with white fur and a hat. You see what color
- 40:59we are where that it's good for the brand. This all makes sense,
- 41:06kids, will love it. Trust me, I love it. I think
- 41:10this is the way it's actually shaken out. Okay, how do we get
- 41:15him too that detour? I don't know TV jingles, ads ads. Oh
- 41:22yeah, yeah, and it was before that watching TV channels. Yeah,
- 41:25in in house, in house checkout, and it's like, yeah, remember
- 41:29commercials. That's something like that. I can't remember. You made a little
- 41:31bit of a leap. Let's let's get into our review. Yes, So
- 41:36at the forty two minute mark, as we record this divisional air. It
- 41:40was November nineteen, two thousand and six. It was written by Matt Warburton,
- 41:44directed by Mark Kirkland, and guest stars all the people that we listed
- 41:46earlier. So the episode kicks off with Homer waking up to various don't forget
- 41:52reminders around the house on his belly. He gets a little street on his
- 41:53finger. He's actually written in backwards on his stomach, which is quite ingender
- 41:58in geniusive and genius together intentive. He and Maggie coughs up that don't forge,
- 42:06which turns into don't forget, and then Marge says we're going to the
- 42:08Senior Olympics, and Homer thinks, oh shit, Okay, that's what it
- 42:12was, and he goes limp, kids do this. Holly has just learnt
- 42:15the whole. I don't want to go. It just goes limp, and
- 42:17I'm like, kid, damn, this is what you have to do when
- 42:21you don't want to, when you want to pull them a lawyer. It's
- 42:22like, this is the thing, what's the what's your situation where you would
- 42:27love to just go? And limpho just just not going or not doing this,
- 42:30you mean other than the recording this podcast? Exactly right? Yeah,
- 42:37he laughs. Look, I don't give himself a pat on the bag or
- 42:42two of him, but I think my timing just then was fucking ammackic.
- 42:45He laughed so hard at the cover his mouth. Normally I'm laughing at other
- 42:51people's jokes, want to do that, but this time I was like,
- 42:53give yourself a little random love to gay. You earned it. But yes,
- 42:58he don't look at all sad. He's got that. I've got backups.
- 43:04Get me g Grint. You're there. That milk is the movie,
- 43:12Get the Gringo. You should look up a poster and get the Grinter.
- 43:16But yeah, so the family drags him out and then we hear him leaving
- 43:20the messages. Oh, I hope you didn't forget that today's a big day.
- 43:25I sure, I'm looking forward to my birthday fishing trip. Well,
- 43:30I see you soon. This is my big day waiting feeling the kind of
- 43:36fragile more a birthday boy listening for your car. Just feel genuinely sad for
- 43:45me? You do, yeah, because like everyone deserves a happy day at
- 43:49least once at least once a year. Yeah, that's one thing about the
- 43:52order I get, Like the birthdays don't feel that important. It feels like
- 43:57it just feels like people don't make as big of a deal for my birthday,
- 44:00which I can't understand the order I get right because when you're a kid,
- 44:02everyone's like, oh my god's your birthday. You go to school once
- 44:05it's happy birthday. I want to get a couple of text with my mum
- 44:07and my sister. Like this year my birthday, no one texts me.
- 44:12I was like, ah, well, it's no big deal, I guess,
- 44:15but it's not kind of sound. I'm like, not a single sol
- 44:16out there thought about me on my birthday, scept my mom must have std
- 44:20I not did I send you a message or anything like that? Via you.
- 44:22Actually you may have Facebook messaged me. Actually maybe you did, yeah,
- 44:25but no one else, Like I had no text or anything. I'm
- 44:29just like, people write message on your Facebook ball and stuff, and I
- 44:31guess that's the new text message. I think it is. Yeah, yeah,
- 44:35I mean for a while, you know, with Facebook, and when
- 44:39I first started using it, back when Facebook was a thing, I was
- 44:44like, oh, someone says birthday, and you know, I people I
- 44:46didn't even really know, but you just sort of, you know, You're
- 44:49a bit like bloody Pokemon. Their day got to catch them all, got
- 44:51to get new friends. And I was like, happy birthday someone so well
- 44:53I've never met in real life. I've never really had a conversation with a
- 44:57DMAs or anything like that. And it wasn't out of some kind of oh
- 45:00maybe this person's feeling lang lets wish and maybe birthday. I think was more
- 45:04like you had to a little bit, and then when you receive those you
- 45:07felt you had to go through each individual one and like it and comment.
- 45:09Now everyone goes thanks everybody for the messages yesterday and moves on. That's what
- 45:14I do now. Absolutely, I don't think I actually I don't think I've
- 45:16read that this year. People don't even read them. I read them absolutely.
- 45:20I'm like, okay, you're on the good list, You're you're in
- 45:22the cool book. Well, so I wake up on roll wake up.
- 45:23It was about it used to be when you wake up on your birthday you
- 45:27had all these messages on your wall, always all these people, right,
- 45:30I don't roll wake up like, I don't know whatever time. And I
- 45:31checked at at like eleven, I was like, oh, four people a
- 45:35bit in my wall. Cool. Clearly no one cares about hit anymore.
- 45:38But I think you can also tell the degree of friendship or affection you have
- 45:45for a certain person by you might happy birthday so and so or happy birthday
- 45:50say and so ex. I always make the effort to text them if I've
- 45:53got their number, because it just it feels more special than just the message
- 45:57on the Facebook wall. I've got friends that I grew up with who will
- 45:59call yeah, which is great. Very Apparently pee Wee Herman was like a
- 46:02legend for sending people birthday messages like you never missed the birthday, so I
- 46:07heard. Yeah, big fans of Peewee. If you've got friends out there
- 46:09and say birthday, make sure you message them. Don't just post on their
- 46:13walls, send them a fucking message or call them. Yes, don't be
- 46:15like guy, because I know how it feels. It's not nice indeed,
- 46:21but they arrive at the Senior Olympics. Grandpa. He mentioned the flashback from
- 46:24nineteen thirty six when he's doing Javelin killed the assasin that was going to kill
- 46:28Hitler. Then he went out and had dinner with Hitler, which was just
- 46:30whatever. Jasper's lighting the flame with the electric to what are those chairs called?
- 46:32Just like a stair chair? Yeah, Miss Lisa, check out our
- 46:38Gremlins review. Yeah, make sure you do that. We need to do
- 46:42more movie reviews. I think, yes, laps with them recently we have
- 46:45Yeah, what's the last time. The last time we did was Peewee?
- 46:49Wasn't it? Was it that well ago? I think so cheapest creepers.
- 46:52Yeah, we need to do these way more often. Yeah. Lisa has
- 46:54aligned composition book and her assignment for school is to interview somebody interesting from Springfield.
- 47:00That was gonna be one of my trivia questions as well. I do
- 47:02have that under trivia highlight pen can you remember at least three of the people
- 47:07I could read the names off my notes, So could I taken in terms
- 47:10Millhouse's dad, Comptroller Atkins? Do you know who that is? Can you
- 47:15remember that? So that's the guy vaguely when Lisa cheats on her test,
- 47:19and he's kind of like the guy that comes in to give him the big
- 47:21check for them because she has such a good style. Yeah, so he's
- 47:23that guy, kind of like the superintendent Charmers with the brown beard. We
- 47:29also have guilt, very tall man and squeaky voiced teen who they named last
- 47:32week. Yes, indeed, why didn't you say, mister Friedman? And
- 47:37then Lenny suggests that you can do about him because he clicks what other fucking
- 47:40odds? Absolute ads, alcohol ads, Oh my god. I think it
- 47:47was George mcmanam who was talking about this the other but we mentioned the song
- 47:53something, we mentioned Candy Andy Moore and then he's like, I'm here their
- 47:57knees, I'm gonna listen to it. I'm sorry, George, that's exactly
- 48:00how it sounds. Do you say they dead? George? He may even
- 48:04gave me the enemy like that. He's a lovely gentleman who sent me gifts.
- 48:09I arrived to gifts at Nicholas's family's house because he lived in the UK
- 48:13wrestling found much like myself and sent me a sign photo of jungle Boy Jack
- 48:16Perry, Lute Perry's son, even a video message. He paid for a
- 48:21video message, George, take back that quirky voice. Sorry about that,
- 48:24dude, but he mentioned the other day. It's like, hey, you
- 48:28guys mentioned Candy Bye and Manny Moore. I hadn't heard that in age as
- 48:30I played it. Then a day later I watched the movie and man Candy
- 48:34by Mandy Moore was on it. I said, as we always say,
- 48:37mate, the Unified Theory or four finger discount, which got a little laugh
- 48:39emerge, which made me happy for like five seconds. But you love it
- 48:44when you're in mid conversation with somebody. Obviously this isn't the equation here,
- 48:46but when you're in a conversation with somebody and you know when they're done with
- 48:49the conversation because they just react to what you've written. Oh, yes,
- 48:52that's the that's the new way of saying I'm done. I had this with
- 48:57with my nephew Rory James last Actually we were sort of talking about some stuff
- 49:00and it's like I can't talk any more. Dudes. So I'm just gonna
- 49:04get thumbs up on that last comment. I just on the comment itself.
- 49:07Yeah, yeah, because I'm like, okay, guys, done to give
- 49:10you the thumbs up guys. But yeah, I don't know. Is it
- 49:17rude though, I don't think it is. I mean I think people just
- 49:21now know. Yeah, I think ignoring it's probably more rude. Yeah.
- 49:23It's impossible to ignore now though, because people can tell when you've read the
- 49:27message. So if you ignore now, then you're definitely a rude prick.
- 49:30Oh yeah, yeah, I'm not gonna say that. Sometimes people you see
- 49:36the reddit, they start writing a comment and then never and then there's never
- 49:38write back. They sort of deleep that you're clear that we're gonna write something,
- 49:40deleted what they're going to say because they said, like so and so
- 49:44was writing and then that goes away and then a comment never appears, and
- 49:46it's like, so, not only did you see the message, you're going
- 49:49to respond? Decided no? But anyway, getting back, So, yeah,
- 49:55we're talking about Lenny. He suggests the absolute ads and he only has
- 49:58one. Then we get the old Jewish guy. Those absolute adds were pretty
- 50:01cool though. They were cool. Yeah, I mean I think it was.
- 50:04It was cheap hipster wallpaper in the It was in the nineties and two
- 50:08thousands, early two thousands. Yeah, when you could just rip him off
- 50:12the back page of a magazine, remember magazine, and have them all over
- 50:16your wall. If you want to see magazines, go to guy's house.
- 50:19They're all in plastic containers in the back room. Mint condition. That's true.
- 50:25Seemed to be settled an eBay. Probably never have Luisa's kids ever been
- 50:30to your house? I think Felix has been once, Okay, or maybe
- 50:32Isaac. Mum, don't ever take me back there. Please get a smelled
- 50:37of cat Wei in despair. Mummy really saying this guy this guy so yes,
- 50:53basically about old Jewish guy. He's doing the diving, use this loose
- 50:58skin to fly around, and molment has replacement legs and just a bunch of
- 51:01visual gags. Yeah yeah, nice. Rocky the Bullwinkle, Yeah, Rocky
- 51:06the Bullwinkle. I'm like, what now, Rocky the Flying Squirrel. Yes,
- 51:10shout out with the music and all that. But Willie here, he's
- 51:15starting to range. He puts on his rain poncho, which looks like the
- 51:16Grim Reaper's coat and what is it? No coat? What does he wear?
- 51:21The Grim Reaper? A cloak, yeah, the cloak of some kind.
- 51:22Yeah, chases Grandpa because Grandpa is losing all the races and everything,
- 51:25all the events, and he's got because Grandpa drops his teeth, so he
- 51:29chases up to him give him back his teeth. Grandpa gets scared, thinks
- 51:30it's actual, really the Grim Reaper, and he wins the race and he
- 51:35offers Bart the soul because he sols fresh. And now, at first I
- 51:37like the gag of Willy the Grim Reaper, of being second on the podium,
- 51:39and of course we were chasing Grandpa. Yeah, but then I went
- 51:43back and washed it and he didn't cross the finish line with Grandpa. The
- 51:45old Jewish guy who was in third cross the finish line with Grandpa. So
- 51:49I'm like, shouldn't he be in the second psision? I've never been happier,
- 52:00hippie Craper. So they arrive home and March has a line here which
- 52:05no one acknowledges. She's I wonder if the dog thought about us whilst were
- 52:07all gone? What if they do cats, I don't think give two ships
- 52:12about us at all, even when we're unless we're feeding them. They don't
- 52:15care. I don't know. I mean when I got back from overseas,
- 52:17basically it was pretty happy to see them, was he really? Yeah?
- 52:20Although, how does the catch they having this litt rub it against you?
- 52:22I guess yes, yeah, you get your ankles get rubbed up against a
- 52:25lot. That's what you do when Louise gets home after a week and leave
- 52:30my ankles alone. You're widow, don't guarantee me. But they Yeah,
- 52:36they arrive home. This is my homo season. Oh shit, I was
- 52:38supposed to go to most fishing trip and I didn't mind the Oh home's home.
- 52:43Oh, it's just his car because they're hiding. They go in the
- 52:45backyard. Happy birthday to me, Happy birthday to me. I feel so
- 52:53damn longely. Won't someone kill me? I'm ready wore. He's looking in
- 53:06the windows, and I was like, this is actually super creepy. Imagine
- 53:08being in your house and the guy is waiting for you and he knows you
- 53:12inside, just keeps like peeking inside to see you there, And I'm like,
- 53:15there's not a way to live. Like, can you imagine that someone
- 53:15been outside your house just peeking in? You're trying to hide from all.
- 53:19It's kind of like when you know, because almost one of those people who
- 53:21I don't like to turn people away, but like people come to the door
- 53:23and they're trying to sell you something. I'm like, just pretend you're not
- 53:25here, and then Jet barks. I'm like, Jet, shut the fuck
- 53:28up, and they hear me telling Jet to shut up, and Ali's like,
- 53:30who's at the dog? I'm like, as, but yes, Mo's
- 53:37outside. They're trying to scuggle around and not having to acknowledge the fact that
- 53:42home forgot him because you would feel terrible. You're a puss bag? Whoa
- 53:46march? Whould you piss off? It's for you, puss bag? Who'd
- 53:52you piss off? And I was like, just felt like we've heard bitch
- 53:55a couple of times in The Simpsons, but like pissed a like a word
- 54:00you wouldn't hear all that often. Have we ever heard on the Simpsons?
- 54:02I don't think, So who'd you piss off? I'm gonna Frank Yak piss
- 54:06yeah, because because they don't have Season eighteen or Frank Yak. So it
- 54:10has been, it will be, it has been said before it appear in
- 54:13here, So I'll type piss um so March here, Oh yeah, March
- 54:19is in the frying game. How much money did you piss away on this?
- 54:22When he when he it seems inappropriate. It does seem in appropriate,
- 54:25okay? And oh yeah in Haberpaloozer, Peter Frampton, so that Peter Frad
- 54:31doesn't say it, but he's like, oh my god, that Eddie Sandwich
- 54:34man, he's going to be pissed off. So they have said it a
- 54:36couple of times. I'll take that back, just but just feels like a
- 54:37word you wouldn't hear all that often. Well, mister Burns is George Carlin's
- 54:43learning about the seven words you can't say on television. I'm pretty sure the
- 54:45piss was one of them, was it? Yeah? Okay, but that
- 54:46was also recorded when oh that's true the weekend at Burns's when Hoamand has the
- 54:52marijuana. I told you I pissed it away. But this is the thing.
- 54:55Pissing something away sounds different to pissed off. Yes, yeah, yeah,
- 55:00I mean apparently, I'm I might begetting this wrong, so disregard,
- 55:04but it might be probably. You know, if a movie is getting raised
- 55:09or something, you'd get a harsher rating if you said, boy, I
- 55:14really got fucked hard last night as opposed to fuck off, which kind of
- 55:17makes sense, said Lisa. Sorry, Pickle, I know you still believe
- 55:24in Santa. So Lisa is, why wouldn't he Santa's rude us Christ?
- 55:30No one do? You got no kids? Kids? Guess what we're gonna
- 55:36go live with anyone else? You gonna live with Santa? Luck? It's
- 55:43that way and I'm pointing south, take the long way. So Lisa is
- 55:52she's taken it back by Moe's letter and a deep tormented soul. I mean,
- 55:55that's obviously hitchik. And she goes to scene and she says she wants
- 55:58to write her report on him. He thinks that's going to make him having
- 56:00the best birthday ever ever. But the dog choos on his arm. Bird
- 56:05it's still in the top three. Yeah. Then the birds eggs, yeah,
- 56:07top ten, top ten. So now they're walking to Moe's apartment at
- 56:10the Regent Hotel with the buzziest sign in town, buzziest neon sign in town,
- 56:15and home is sitting on his vibrating massage chair, which is full of
- 56:17cockroaches and a list. It then sees the fragments on the fridge. So
- 56:22mo has just been like writing random shit on the fridge. I guess,
- 56:24yeah, writing just little fragments of thoughts on post it notes. Yeah,
- 56:29Christmas. I was at the Christmas pageant once and mum showed it with a
- 56:31new boyfriend. He called me, Steve. What you got here is poetry?
- 56:37O mos a poet. He has the soul flood your wings. It's
- 56:43tea time, and put your conjunction clote the princess of Lollipop lan go.
- 56:52He locks you eleven and popery seriously. Oh, I think you have a
- 57:00gift. Thanks Homer. I love you man, You love a man.
- 57:06One of my favorite since the moments of all time hit Lesy's bookie book.
- 57:09Yeah, this is the ship version of that. This is the ship version
- 57:13of that. Yes, yeah, this is the yeah, the crap twelve
- 57:17inch remix. Yeah, because that is like about being a nerd right with
- 57:22bart. But this is like saying, oh, you have emotions. It's
- 57:25just I don't know, oh, you love a man. Whatever. This
- 57:30probably slayed in the writer's room in two thousand and six, but now it's
- 57:32just like whatever. It's like my notes Normally, I like Homer poking fun,
- 57:37but this time it sucked. Yep. And then Lisa realizes, you
- 57:40know, this could be a poem, says, we make a great team,
- 57:44and then she takes Mode to school to read out one of his poems
- 57:46and no one gets it. Pilastinees now at the family dinner, and Lisa
- 57:50says she's going to send his poem to the American Poetry Perspectives, the magazine
- 57:54I'm assuming I guess, so, yeah, yeah, yeah, And Homer's
- 57:57annoyed we can't speak that name in their house because they didn't publish my wrapping
- 58:00Tomato palm. And I'm just like, what the fuck is this? This
- 58:02isn't even a joke, no, Like, it's just I don't get it.
- 58:06It's it's kind of sad how they've dropped the ball regarding Homer, but
- 58:09sometimes they don't. Sometimes they do, like more times than not they do
- 58:14now. But sometimes you just like, I think you can clear you clearly
- 58:16still know how to write, Homer if you want to, even with the
- 58:19bad gags. It's kind of like, oh, I think I see where
- 58:22you're coming from. Or you're like, well, even like we said,
- 58:24well, you know, Homer poking fun. It's like, oh, they've
- 58:28worked in the past, and it's like, yeah, but work in the
- 58:30past for that reason, and you're doing it for this reason, which is
- 58:34you know you're you're playing the song, but you're playing the notes all wrong.
- 58:37Well, my question would be, if they handed me this, would
- 58:39say, how does this joke here at the end of this scene further the
- 58:43story in any way or compliment the story in any way. If it's not
- 58:45complimenting the story, why is it here? And it doesn't, so fuck
- 58:49off with this shit? Well, top oss. But then we get ja
- 58:53Jonah Jemison, don't we we do? Yeah? I don't think does he
- 58:55ever actually call j Jonah Jamison or just but he is as that on the
- 59:00wiki page. Oh okay, chief, we just got a submission from a
- 59:05brilliant poet no one's ever heard of. Huh huh genius. Pay him nothing
- 59:10and running on the cover. Stop the presence, send my wife some flowers
- 59:15and bring me in advil. What do you mean you don't work for me?
- 59:15You're hired. Now that you're hired, you're fired now that you don't
- 59:17work care we can be friends. Now that we're friends. I'll come you
- 59:20never call some friend. You are God, I love this business. I
- 59:22guess it would have felt relevant at the time. Oh yeah, absolutely,
- 59:24I mean I still kind of feel relevant actual. He's still doing the films
- 59:28he is. He was in what was the last one? No Way Home,
- 59:30No Way Home? I think, yeah, and it was was no
- 59:34Way Home? What was the second one? European Vacation homecoming Far from Home?
- 59:39No Way Far from Home? That's right, ye, right, yeah,
- 59:40Because I mean I think JK. Simmons had been working for a while.
- 59:45He'd been on Laura order we learn Palmer, that's ours? He says,
- 59:49what do we learn Palmer? That's our? Bit on our that's correct.
- 59:52He was on oz and oh that's right. Yeah, yeah, he's
- 59:55terrifying your eyes. Oh god, yeah, I'm too scared to watch ours.
- 1:00:01Really. Oh yeah, just like the line that stays with me.
- 1:00:05I'm certain it was. I was because we used to watch it all the
- 1:00:07time. It was like ship of my deck, of a Blood of my
- 1:00:09Knife, And I'm like, oh man, what about a third option?
- 1:00:19Oh yeah, so yeah. But Slas, I'm like, oh god,
- 1:00:22I was talking about re listening to Tabler gets the Stabler out indeed, but
- 1:00:28stables in Rippon shape. Yeah, I mean going if I was in Christopher
- 1:00:31Maloney shape, I'll be like, check it out guys and leaders, but
- 1:00:35most of the guys. But I was listening to tell guys get an ad
- 1:00:42for girls. Do will tell us this later? No, I was listening
- 1:00:46to some podcast. Well, the episode we did with with Charlie claud Be
- 1:00:50honest, I was gonna say. It wasn't the what's the one you always
- 1:00:52quote the Rewatchables? Oh no, that's a different podcast. But now the
- 1:00:59podcast we did with Charlie Lawson when we talked about Last Temptation of Homer,
- 1:01:01and I think we were saying if we went to what would we be if
- 1:01:05we went to prison? And I think both Charlie and I were like,
- 1:01:07oh no, we'd be punks, would be passed around like a packet of
- 1:01:10smokes. I'm too pretty. So Lisa shows that he's published, He goes
- 1:01:17to most and shows him all the barflies. I can't believe it. And
- 1:01:20then he gets a phone call and it's from Tom Wolf. He's been invited
- 1:01:22to the Wordloaf Festival in Vermont, which is a take off of that's a
- 1:01:27real goodquition. What is it is? That the Breadloaf Festival or something.
- 1:01:30Never look Wordloaf. That's a conference. Yeah, based on the real life
- 1:01:34Breadloaf Writer's Conference. I did not know that was a real thing. No,
- 1:01:37No, I mean Vermond is lovely. I mean I've never been,
- 1:01:39but everything I've seen it was like that would be a nice place to go,
- 1:01:44particularly during autumn. I think, yeah, looked like the place to
- 1:01:46go. The place that seems to be the is now Oregon. Well according
- 1:01:51to Ashower, but yes, Portland, Oregon seems to be like everyone's like,
- 1:01:57oh, because that's where Bill locally is from. Oh okay, yeah,
- 1:02:00like Paul Laurian, it's the place to be. Yeah, Bill,
- 1:02:04shout you a tasty cheat tasty sandwiches from from you as fast food outlets.
- 1:02:12But I'm just reading here in the wikipation of interesting stuff. So the episode
- 1:02:14guest stars Tom Wolf, who says has once said that The Simpsons is the
- 1:02:16only show of any sort that he watches on television or at the time when
- 1:02:21it went. That's one way of getting on the show, isn't it.
- 1:02:25Jonathan Franzen, do you think I named checked the Rewatchables all the time?
- 1:02:30Yes, Shabroon recorded their lines together gor Vidale, who admitted that he was
- 1:02:34not a regular watcher of the show. In one version of the script,
- 1:02:37it says Wolf, Chebron, Shavon, Shaven shaven, sorry shaven, and
- 1:02:40Franz and were all killed by a giant boulder, and although they recorded the
- 1:02:44lines for this part of the episode, it was cut from the final version.
- 1:02:46You would love festival. You mean all the great American writers know you
- 1:02:52have to go. Yeah, well, okay, all right, but only
- 1:02:54if you come. Huh. I wouldn't have none of this, would out
- 1:02:58you? Kid? Hello, No, I'm not here. They then arrive
- 1:03:05in Vermont. It's a family trip with a family bartender, and we get
- 1:03:07home. I drink driving because that's apparently funny. We learned nothing from Codependence
- 1:03:13Day. Then we get troopers from Rhode Island cops in every show we review.
- 1:03:17So yeah, he's like, I'm from Rhode Island. We're a small
- 1:03:21state, will be up for big tickets. I'm like, why does it
- 1:03:23want hat Island? Why are you picking on Roe? But yes, home?
- 1:03:28Has he been a not arrested, but he's been attended to ticketed,
- 1:03:31Yes, ticketed by the troopers. So then bart moxall the writers little Da
- 1:03:36Vinci code shade here being thrown. Probably true. They probably did sell one
- 1:03:38hundred million copies. Oh god, yeah, look the damn Brown books sold
- 1:03:42the shu the Vincy code. How many copies sold? Let's have a look.
- 1:03:47Eighty million copies. We just saw a shit Look when they have his
- 1:03:52book sales about two thousand, two thousand and three was out sold only by
- 1:03:55what do you reckon another Bible? No? Jk Ailings, Harry Potter and
- 1:04:00The Order of the Phoenix. Ah okay, But they enter and they see
- 1:04:02Tom Wolf, the man who's used more exclamation points than any other writer in
- 1:04:06America. It's true. I wish he did the John lovetzt there. It
- 1:04:11would have been better. But mo, then he ruins Jo Tom Wolf's jacket
- 1:04:14as he's talking him up with their Tom Wolf very well known for wearing just
- 1:04:17a white suit pretty much anything. Is that. That's his trademark, So
- 1:04:20ruining that would not be fun. No, No, although I imagine he's
- 1:04:25probably got a closet all of them. Makes joke that everyone enjoys. And
- 1:04:29then I love the He says some of the lines of satisfying as a new
- 1:04:32pair of socks on a wet hike. I was like, that would be
- 1:04:34very satisfying. Oh absolutely, But nobody can believe that he didn't write the
- 1:04:41title himself because he comes out clean and he's like, wait a minute,
- 1:04:44I need to change this here. Because before that, though, Gorvidale arrives
- 1:04:46and says, I didn't do the titles either. I stold those ideas,
- 1:04:49so they kick him out. He got the title for bir I look at
- 1:04:54the wrapper. I thought that was very funny, but he leaves Lisa hi
- 1:05:01and dry. He says that he wrote it just him, and everyone goes
- 1:05:03out to the hay ride. They're all having fun outside, and Lisa's I
- 1:05:08did like that, getting down to what is it black eyed peas? Yeah,
- 1:05:11let's get it started, or or let's get our word, yes,
- 1:05:15which is I can't. I wonder if people still say that now. I
- 1:05:19can imagine they don't, and I just find it hard to believe that at
- 1:05:24any point in the world that felt okay to say in that term and in
- 1:05:28all honesty, let's get it started. Is more better, is more fun?
- 1:05:32Yes, It's like let's get ship faced drug, let's get it started.
- 1:05:36It's fun for everybody. Everybody going to enjoy this kid's talking. Take
- 1:05:40it. Let's dad it started. Hit how many uncool teachers have been made
- 1:05:45cool by you know, rocking into the start of the squad. Let's get
- 1:05:47it started. Wow, missus sewn so is going to be a fantastic I've
- 1:05:51got a whole new love of learning. I don't know, maybe this never
- 1:05:55happened. That happens every year. It happens every but anyway, good use
- 1:06:00of the black eyed peas, particularly among these stuff shirts. It must be
- 1:06:03nerve wracking for a teacher when they're just getting a new class, Like that
- 1:06:05first ten minutes is so pivotal. Oh yeah, you've got it's yeah,
- 1:06:10like the prison yard, You've got to establish dominance. I mean it's the
- 1:06:13first ten minutes of a new of a date as well. It's like I've
- 1:06:15got to impress. You've got to establish dominance there. Yeah yeah, oh
- 1:06:19boy, wait a minute, that came out wrong. But yeah, it's
- 1:06:23like you've got to metaphorically punch the most naughty student in the face. I'm
- 1:06:30not taking any guff's. Like when I said the other day is like I
- 1:06:33might do it. Why because I told you so? Why because I'm the
- 1:06:36fucking boss. That's why he's like, he's giving you his chips. You've
- 1:06:47been to KFC and he gives you like half his chips. I gotta I
- 1:06:51gotta pay tribute to the big Man, to the big Gap. And this
- 1:07:01is us. Oh man, sorry, that's really funny. I'm pressing the
- 1:07:15hell out of myself today. Allie goes to eat like some popcorn chicken looks
- 1:07:18at me, you want it, doesn't say so trembling the popcorn chickens going
- 1:07:26everywhere. That's right, Big Daddy gets Big Daddy gets his DIDs on the
- 1:07:32pop chicken. This is what Hoby's done to him though she's broaken him down.
- 1:07:36Holly walks up, She's like, I want to sit there. Alic's
- 1:07:40like, well he's learned a vae. The ladies are always right. Okay,
- 1:07:53m introduce her panel, Jonathan Franzen, Michael's Shabon, and Mo whoa
- 1:07:59clear water swanky. Now we all open the floor to fawning praise and obvious
- 1:08:04questions. Well, yeah, first of all, I'd like to thank all
- 1:08:09of you for your brilliant work. Yes, yes, My question is who
- 1:08:15are your biggest influences. I'd have to say my good friend Jonathan Fransen,
- 1:08:19I thought his novel of the Corrections needed none shape. Well, in turn,
- 1:08:26I'd have to say my biggest influence is Albert Camue. You were supposed
- 1:08:30to say me, I blurbed you. Yeah, and it looks real sweet
- 1:08:33on my dust jacket. How do you like me now? Friend Zone?
- 1:08:40Mo? Who inspired you to become a writer? Jack Kerouac, Charles Mukowski,
- 1:08:44Me, Tom Wolf? Well, I don't know. The only book
- 1:08:46I ever read was Super Hounds, The Ultimate Greyhound Betting System. So any
- 1:08:51of you wet naps write that? Mistress says Lack. It must be some
- 1:08:59person to be in this very room who believed in you when no one else
- 1:09:02did. Oh yeah, I get what you're getting at Nope, But how
- 1:09:09can you now now he's answered your question? I declaire of this panel,
- 1:09:13dismissed, Like I deserve acknowledgement, I said, dismissed. This is where
- 1:09:18she kind of felt annoying at this point. It's like, I feel sorry
- 1:09:23for you, Lisa, but it's not going to come, so just get
- 1:09:25over it. Ye. Look, it's just life. Just guilty of him,
- 1:09:28that's life, kid. But the family are going this is actually awesome.
- 1:09:30This is one's reminded me of you. So the family were going vermonting,
- 1:09:35Lisa, wouldn't be a great company. Well, thanks for the heads
- 1:09:38up. We'll see you when we get back. It is always good when
- 1:09:44someone gives you one out. Yes, well, well, thank you for
- 1:09:46the heads up, but you stay here. So the then drives through the
- 1:09:49house, of course, because he's a new idiot, and they exchange insurance
- 1:09:53infron and he hasn't got any list. Then she's fankally didn't mind that.
- 1:09:58Let's exchange your insurance information. I have none. That's actually pretty fun deliver
- 1:10:02that, Lisa. Mean, while I was feeding the birds at the park,
- 1:10:10grad students are trying to pick up the scraps, all the crumbs,
- 1:10:12and not until they've greanded three thousand papers. They had to eat the proper
- 1:10:15meal more than ask so for help, which is you're heartless joke, Well,
- 1:10:18where'd that come from? My actions? And may as well. So
- 1:10:25then he starts getting it. It was he's in the water for some reason,
- 1:10:27I can't remember why. He was laying out his poem blown the water,
- 1:10:30and they blow into the water and the duck start eating. Yes,
- 1:10:32and then he starts shooting the geese because he doesn't want to lose his fight.
- 1:10:35The family arrive home and they're quite sweet. They've got Lisa, Moe
- 1:10:40and Lisa bears, and they don't worry it's not made of real bears because
- 1:10:43she starts crying, just the fur and the noses. But then Homer and
- 1:10:45Bart get angry at the fact that Moe has made them, made their daughter
- 1:10:48and their sister cry. I'm like, you can't go from like being sympathetic
- 1:10:53to like, from an idiot to sympathetic like this. It just it's it's
- 1:10:56so disjointed, the Homer. But it's now whose evening is going to be
- 1:11:00a water best new poet? And Wolf wants to all the mashed potatoes.
- 1:11:03Now, is there a gag that I miss just because it's white, like
- 1:11:05white suits and white potato. No, I think it's more just, you
- 1:11:09know, apparently events like this. Stephen King wrote about it in one of
- 1:11:14his books. How you know, writers generally don't make a lot of money,
- 1:11:17so if they're invited to events like this when you take home of the
- 1:11:21soaps in my hotel, oh yeah, it's very much taken on the soaps
- 1:11:24and you know, go wild at the buffet. One of the things I
- 1:11:28really remember. I think it was in his novel The Tommy Knockets. Like
- 1:11:30every writer knows. You take you know, you take two pairs of shoes
- 1:11:35and you get them both shined by the by the by room service or something
- 1:11:40like that. You know, you get all your dry cleaning done with,
- 1:11:42like oh yeah, ride this gravy train while you can. I always when
- 1:11:45I go to an oil you neat place, fill up my plate and then
- 1:11:47take that shit, don't Oh yeah? Am I wrong for doing so?
- 1:11:50Some people like some people like really do that, And I'm like, pay
- 1:11:54thirty eight dollars for this fucking meal. I'm gonna be taking them a few
- 1:11:56armies or you can, yeah, before you leave. It's what they say.
- 1:12:04I didn't wor byo beast for bring your own bag. I always go,
- 1:12:09can I take this home for my dog? Do you think there's less
- 1:12:12shame in asking for the doggie bag these days? Did you? Were you
- 1:12:15ever sort of like I used? I said, I used to use the
- 1:12:16excuse it was for my dog, And it wasn't for my dogg it was
- 1:12:18for me. So it's like it's kind of like when you return a night
- 1:12:20and I'm like, oh my wife bought this once you brought the wrong one.
- 1:12:23It's like they don't believe me. But I always feel guilt, But
- 1:12:27now I don't care this. This feels like now this is part of part
- 1:12:30of the deal. I guess well, cost of living's going up. They're
- 1:12:31like, yeah, we're gonna charge me with this a man, and you
- 1:12:33know I'm not gonna eat it all now I'm going to eat something that later.
- 1:12:36Yeah, unless its I was just the other day, what did I
- 1:12:40have had it? I ordered a parme of all things. I haven't had
- 1:12:42Pubbly for ages, but I went to the Sphinx for Holy Birthday the family
- 1:12:45party, party, and the party were so big that I actually couldn't finish
- 1:12:47it. So I just took half of it home. And I'm just like
- 1:12:49this should used to feel weird asking for this, but now it just doesn't.
- 1:12:53It's like, yeah, sure was bringing and it'd be a container.
- 1:12:55I'm like, oh, contains a bag anymore? Just wrap it up and
- 1:12:59napkin. But it may make him shame most like, nan, take it
- 1:13:01out, or you can eat us rapuh up and nacins and put it in
- 1:13:02her handbag. She'd be walking out like marjor with the fucking candy. But
- 1:13:09Moe reads out he's he's now newly written poems alabatic capacity and the various channels
- 1:13:15and yeah, not going good at all. But Lisa interrupts and he says,
- 1:13:18well, she's an interrupt She just walks in, I guess, and
- 1:13:20he sees her she's all sad. Oh, by the way, sorry you
- 1:13:24mentioned the garlic mash potatoes. I too would be like Tom Wolf and just
- 1:13:26like if you got spare garlic mashed potatoes if you don't want to on my
- 1:13:29way, because when I make mash I tend to throw a bit of garl
- 1:13:32Again, it was like, oh, yeah, I put calig in everything
- 1:13:34that. Yeah, yeah, But Luke called me out the other night and
- 1:13:36said you were garlicn't say that? And then some you said at that end
- 1:13:43of the couch, by which I mean the other couch, speaking of Jet.
- 1:13:47Right, he's got some gut issues at the moment, so Jet usually
- 1:13:51when he farts, right, he's on the couch. It's almost stinks.
- 1:13:54Right, you're sitting next beyond the couch yesterday and I was just giving him
- 1:13:57some cuddles. He's in the middle of the couch. Normally his fart's just
- 1:13:59like right last night, for the first time ever in my life, he
- 1:14:01just goes, oh my god. I was like, are you fucking He
- 1:14:06ran scared himself. That was like your animals ever far like genuinely fighted like
- 1:14:14that. I know. It was right next to me. It's just a
- 1:14:16really long and yeah. And usually you were able to sort of like,
- 1:14:20you know, blame it on the dog. Well, you're definitely gonna blame
- 1:14:25because that was definitely rude. Niggla was excuse me, like it was a
- 1:14:30dog. It was a dog. That was a dog. No, but
- 1:14:35oh god, an animal fart is just like the word and honestly, like
- 1:14:42to quote what we're talking aboutarlier fog, Oh god, yeah, I mean
- 1:14:45lose dog RAFFI will do them occasionally. He did one of the other nights.
- 1:14:47How are you producing this smell? Yeah, I mean this is literally
- 1:14:50burning well it's not literally, but it is figuratively burning the hairs out of
- 1:14:54my nostrils. Basically did the same when I first got it, and he
- 1:14:57did a fart that was so bad it woke me up from a deep s.
- 1:15:00He said this, I was like, what the fuck, Oh my
- 1:15:02god, you know, what I got a different poemp for you. Oh
- 1:15:12to Lisa, pointy headed mini muse, more friend than I deserved. You
- 1:15:17pulled me from the dirt and made meet a beautiful flower that I am.
- 1:15:23But some flowers can stab you in the back, for which I should send
- 1:15:26you flowers, which I will, but they were closed. You'll be getting
- 1:15:30them tomorrow. Oh Lisa, if you could just forgive me, you would
- 1:15:33make me the happiest man in Vermont, except for those two dudes I saw
- 1:15:38getting hitched. Not my thing, but I wish him Well, that's not
- 1:15:41a bad gay jo No, because I mean I think Vermont was probably one
- 1:15:45of the saying it's a bad thing. No, no, I mean,
- 1:15:48not my thing. But yeah, I wish I'm all the best. Yeah,
- 1:15:50yeah, I mean, but I think Vermont was might be one of
- 1:15:53the few states in the in the States that at the time there was a
- 1:15:56low on gay marriage. Well, yeah, didn't have a restriction on it.
- 1:15:59So but that's a nice little bit of social commentary. I guess the
- 1:16:01show it's not from me, but anyhow, he's an alline. Nonetheless,
- 1:16:04Homer and Bart then try pouring syrup on tomorrow, but it's going down so
- 1:16:08slow. It's a bit of a carry shout out yep, And I just
- 1:16:12like that would to make you feel better if this hit me? Not now?
- 1:16:15So he steps aside. He's made up with Lisa. They go regional
- 1:16:17duck bowling? Is that shooting duck? I don't know what? Lisa says,
- 1:16:20let's do it, And I was like, what is regional duck bowling?
- 1:16:23Let's google that regional duck bowling, duck pin bowling, the origin of
- 1:16:28duck. I see this is duck pin bowling, is said duck pin?
- 1:16:30Does he? I just think that's I thought there's a regional duck bowling.
- 1:16:31And I'm suming like one of those things that it's it's a smaller just a
- 1:16:35smaller version of bowling. Yeah, and it's probably outside or something. Yeah
- 1:16:39anyway, but yes, because it wouldn't be hidden. It's not like ten
- 1:16:42pins. But they're probably like Dan, it's got us some lovely Star Wars
- 1:16:46plastic mugs for us to quench our thirst while we while we talk. I
- 1:16:50imagine they're about that size. I'd imagine so too. All right, and
- 1:16:54over the credits we have Homer tastes. Are we still recording? But I
- 1:16:57remember recording all those time that we have, we've got had timing the car.
- 1:17:00Let's get through this. So Homer over the credits his tastest in the
- 1:17:01syrup, and someone says touched in the head, is he yep, which
- 1:17:05pretty much just sums up where Homer is at this point. Touched in the
- 1:17:08head, is it? It's almost like that's that shouldn't be where he is
- 1:17:13touched in the head. I don't know. But the thing of it is,
- 1:17:15I mean, Homer being all kind of like wine connoisseur about maple syrup.
- 1:17:19Is that I think that's actually pretty funny gag. Yes, And I
- 1:17:23mean it's one that it would sort of play during vintage Simpsons and no one
- 1:17:27would sort of It's like with the chili. Yeah, everyone would sort of
- 1:17:30play along with it, like I mean not they say he carved it with
- 1:17:33a bigger spoon. I mean maybe sort of. Yeah, the waiter would
- 1:17:36go like, oh fine whatever. No one sort of go oh, he's
- 1:17:40an idiot. Right. As the sound, I feel like Dan Castlenetta for
- 1:17:44this role. This part here just improved a bunch of various shit and that
- 1:17:46is animated to the sounds he was making. Okay, I don't know.
- 1:17:49I actually thought it was not a bad gag, but yeah, but that
- 1:17:54touched in their head? Is it? It's like, well, that's the
- 1:17:55fucking point of that. What do we learn, Bomber? That's what you
- 1:17:59learn from the episode to Davis that if you attend word loaf, the first
- 1:18:03ten rows may get wit. Okay? Is it what I said? That
- 1:18:06was a one of the signs? Okay? I learned that. What did
- 1:18:12I learn? What's something that's off? That was one of our side notes
- 1:18:14today that I learned. She learned about Colin and Santa Clause. I genuinely
- 1:18:19learned things episode. I personally, I was very happy to learn the story
- 1:18:27of Glenn and how you just made his day, week, month, maybe
- 1:18:31year. It was the shaking of the hand nozzles, handing him the phone.
- 1:18:35He was like, it can't be. This is only Grayer. We've
- 1:18:43talked a bit, We're talked about so many things in this episode that I
- 1:18:45learn plenty, yes, indeed plenty forward your names will be all right.
- 1:18:50It is time now for the Guy Davis New Name Championship here for season eighteen.
- 1:18:56The current leader board stands at this in first position, and we have
- 1:19:00Luke McKay on six points in second position. We have a two way time
- 1:19:03with Kyl muldoon and Philip Jay Hawkins both on five and various people on three
- 1:19:09points as well. But yes, take it away with to day. So
- 1:19:11what do we go this week? Bad luck for you, various people and
- 1:19:13I get your names, right, o michllaneous. One point goes to poetry
- 1:19:19in motions. Oh, Luke, McKay's clawing further away. He's now in
- 1:19:24seven points. Nice one, Luke. But let's see who gets two points
- 1:19:28for poet Moriot? Not bad that ooh newby too. Season eighteen's leaderboard.
- 1:19:33It is Fergus. Jeff's on you. You assume he's Irish or Scottish or
- 1:19:41whatever. That accent I deliberately did a bad accent that can't be placed.
- 1:19:46That's the story. It's better than George your enemy. Sorry George. But
- 1:19:54three points go to I like this one a lot, Lisa versus versus versus,
- 1:20:01Lisa versus Mo. Not. That's really good that someone say it's clever.
- 1:20:08I wonder who who done it? You know what? That's exciting because
- 1:20:11that pushes clever Cale to first position. Well clever Carl Mulder Carl Maldner's now
- 1:20:15in eight points in first position. Luke McKay on seven. He thought he'd
- 1:20:18claw further away, but Kyle the threw bun appeal and the Blue Blues tortoshell
- 1:20:24and he's hit the front. So Cayle Olduner first on eight, Luke McKay
- 1:20:27on seven points and second, and Philip Jay Hawkins outright third, now in
- 1:20:30fifth on five points. Alright, alrighty, let's do this mail bag,
- 1:20:34shall we? Mail Bag? I hang on mail bag? Mail bag is
- 1:20:43here? This one here, Simpson's mail bak at gmail dot com comes from
- 1:20:47Michael Palmt's bit of a long one. Let's's get through this one, he
- 1:20:49says, Hei, hello, Dane guy. I thought i'd finally write into
- 1:20:53the podcast after many months. I'll write a letter. I'll write a little
- 1:20:56letter just like home. I waenting from mister t at the mail at the
- 1:20:59mall. So I'm running to you by the sea from Portugal, where I'm
- 1:21:01on holiday. At the moment, I was catching up and listening to a
- 1:21:03million Dollar Aby on Monday. During the day, you mentioned that the fish
- 1:21:08and chip shops near you were closed on Mondays, and a friend told you
- 1:21:10it was because they were collecting stock. I thought this made sense, but
- 1:21:14at the same time strange because in Scotland they are always open on Mondays,
- 1:21:16getting deliveries regularly, I assume. However, when I went to look for
- 1:21:20a restaurant in Portugal that Monday night, nearly all of the restaurants were closed.
- 1:21:25At this point, I thought Dane's friend was right, because we had
- 1:21:27discussion. This is way back in like July. He said this through in
- 1:21:29July. However, after speaking with some of the locals here in Portugal,
- 1:21:31they explained that at all the restaurants they are extremely busy on Friday to Sunday,
- 1:21:35so they close on Monday to give them time to clean up and sells
- 1:21:39back on track, which makes sense. Also, I thought i'd throw out
- 1:21:42this question to you both at the moment. I'm really into music, so
- 1:21:44I wondered who you thought would be some of the Simpsons characters favorite artists or
- 1:21:46album's past and present. We have had some mentions in the show, but
- 1:21:49it would be fun to assign one artist or album to a character. For
- 1:21:53example, Mo he thinks would be The Cure or something something more gloomy sounding.
- 1:21:57Marge Barry Manilow she thinks they would be much his favorite Edna Krabapple with
- 1:22:00Britney spears of Rihanna something to make it feel sexy or empowered. Comen book
- 1:22:04guy Rush, he's getting into the dystopian sci fi lyrics, and he just
- 1:22:09says he keep up all the good work and all the best to the whole
- 1:22:11Forefinger Scamp family, which has grown so much over the years thanks to the
- 1:22:13hard work. And although I'm not always enjoying watching the Simpsons episodes as much,
- 1:22:17I still love checking out the episodes and listening along with you guys in
- 1:22:19your reviews. So thank you so much, Michael Plummer. And he also
- 1:22:23points out guys legendary tangents. Oh, Michael's my new favorite guy. He's
- 1:22:29from Glasgow, Scotland, so he would probably sound like Fergus, even if
- 1:22:33Fergus sounds like no Scotman Scotsman ever, Michael, thank you for that lovely
- 1:22:39missive from Portugal. I hope you having a fantastic time. I think Portugal
- 1:22:43does sound very, very nice. Let's throw it. Let's throughout some names.
- 1:22:45So Lenny, who's Lenny listening to? Probably whatever Karl's listening to,
- 1:22:48Yes, and trying to feel cool. I feel like Carl he is definitely
- 1:22:53he don't want a stereotype that do you no? But he Carl would be
- 1:22:56like a soul or R and B guy. Yeah, like Isaac Hayes in
- 1:23:01Hot Buttered Soul. He'd be listening to Salty Balls the Balls. But if
- 1:23:08Lenny was just by himself, not listening to what car's listening to, I
- 1:23:10feel like he'd be like a very eighties I reckon Lenny. I feel that
- 1:23:13I felt the song Lenny feels called to is like push it to the limit.
- 1:23:16Oh, how many kids in the how many people in the eighties and
- 1:23:18people and they put that song on when they got into the car and felt
- 1:23:20like absolutely to the limit? Lemmit, they have that in the South Park,
- 1:23:27don't they? I mean maybe I think I think it's coming up in
- 1:23:29the South Okay, soon you throw another character. You throw a character to
- 1:23:32me though, for some reason, the first one that came to mind was
- 1:23:34Martin Prince. Martin Prince, who was Martin Prince listening to? So this
- 1:23:38is to say his nineties kid? I think, but I think he'd be
- 1:23:40listening to classical. Yeah, he would be, wouldn't he. I can
- 1:23:44imagine him being a Beatles fan. Do you think he'd be the kind of
- 1:23:45Beatles fan who would sort of he'd be picking out the deep cuts, Yes,
- 1:23:50like the White album retakes and we'll do one more. Who is we'll
- 1:23:58get the war his characters. Who do you think Smithers listens to? That's
- 1:24:02an interesting one. M Again, we don't want a stereotype, but everyone
- 1:24:06on Simpsons is a stereotype. True, Okay, I want to say someone
- 1:24:12like Dusty Springfield or Carol King or something. Carol King is a good one.
- 1:24:15Yeah, yeah, I can buy Carol King. The Carpenters maybe,
- 1:24:19Yeah, Carpenters if you're listening to like Rainy Days and Mondays or get Me
- 1:24:25Down or as I've mentioned in this show before, my mom's favorite song ever
- 1:24:29is Please Miss the Postman. And I watched that video you said where she
- 1:24:31just shows it on the drums in the great Yeah, shout at Karen Carpenter.
- 1:24:36I would do a couple of Malbay questions from the patrons as well.
- 1:24:39First one here, David, what do you like maple syrup? Yeah?
- 1:24:42It might. It has to be on pancakes, though I can't have on
- 1:24:44anything else. I have done that thing where It's like chicken and waffles and
- 1:24:50I'm making waffles put them in maple syrup on top of that. Not bad
- 1:24:54at all. Remember when our Canadian buddy sent us that gift, it was
- 1:24:58so awesome, it was so rad Thank you, Pat Right, Thank you
- 1:25:03very much, Pat Right and Canadian well yesterday, said she. I was
- 1:25:06like, what a couple of packet of chips. It was like a giant
- 1:25:10fucking box. And we Dan and I both got a bunch of stuff.
- 1:25:14We ate and drank all of it, and maple srup was part of that
- 1:25:18package, and it was really nice. Maple soup is good stuff. I
- 1:25:21do enjoy it. Glenn Gomez, what do you do to remind you of
- 1:25:25something? It's got to be the phone now, because the phone, the
- 1:25:27phone is are what thing I've always got with me. Lou gave me this
- 1:25:30the other night because I was like, Lou's very much the social director of
- 1:25:33our particular unit. And you know, she was saying, oh, the
- 1:25:36models are playing at the Barm Club and you hit here in Geelong, and
- 1:25:40I'm like, do you want to go? Say yeah, let's go do
- 1:25:42that. So I'm like, okay, So this is on that night and
- 1:25:45then so and so I was on that and then we're doing this. You
- 1:25:47know, have you put any of these in your phone? I'm like,
- 1:25:49I don't really use the phone on that much. To use your phone.
- 1:25:53I'm like, yes, ma'am. So now I've got a whole bunch of
- 1:25:57stuff in my phone, and now I've got to do them my lay by
- 1:26:00the way, just as I do when I'm doing what are you talking about?
- 1:26:04When I do mylloy? I'm twisted a little anyway, But yeah,
- 1:26:11I now now it's the phone I religiously buy like a diary at the start
- 1:26:15of every year, you know, between boxing day and news like, I've
- 1:26:19got a bad dary and I'm going to get myself organized. And then that's
- 1:26:21why I gave you the book for the notes. Was you obviously filled up?
- 1:26:24Have you mispleased? I'm very very close to finishing. Okay, yeah,
- 1:26:32final one here. This is actually a good point, Brian Hughes.
- 1:26:34Did you notice how this episode is basically the same as please Home. I
- 1:26:36don't hammer them with a male taking credit for the hard work of a female.
- 1:26:41Wow, hugh'sy well, well well spotted, mate, I don't notice
- 1:26:45it. I hope it's not Hughsy I sent you that video. We've got
- 1:26:49like two minutes stuff on this card, so we'll skim through it. But
- 1:26:51Hughsey Dave. Hugh's a comedian, right is comedian. That was like the
- 1:26:58most unfunny version that episode of that show I've ever seen. It is a
- 1:27:00hot take whatever. There was hard chat, hard chat. Yeah, before
- 1:27:04there was hard quiz with the Tom Gleason and he's not for funny. He
- 1:27:10popped up in a clip of that Mass singer Think it was on like have
- 1:27:13you been paying attention? You're just like, oh, this is scary.
- 1:27:15And I was like, ah, be funnier, more funny. And and
- 1:27:20as as I wrote back to to Dan Do when he sent me that clip,
- 1:27:25I'm no fan of Dave Gleeson and Hughes. He made Gleason look like
- 1:27:28fucking letterman. That's Tom Gleason, by the way, he said, Dave
- 1:27:32Gleason, who is a famous musician. I'm creating a frequently passed away Actually
- 1:27:38not Dave Gleason of the another member of the Screaming Day, No, Dave
- 1:27:41Gleason passed away. Are you sure you looked it up? Wise? I
- 1:27:44did the outro here were running out of time. Thank you so much,

- 1:28:01other stuff. The next episode of season eighteen, we're going to be reviewing
- 1:28:04I Scream of Margie with the Light Blue Hair. Mister Davis, any final
- 1:28:08words for those amazing listeners out there. I'm trying to google Dave Gleason dead
- 1:28:11and it's not coming up. Hang on, Dave Gleeson did so? How
- 1:28:15do you spell Dave Gleason? Do you want me to do it for you?
- 1:28:16Do you want to do it for you? Why have I got this
- 1:28:19up? This sounds like my mom. Dave Gleason is not dead. I
- 1:28:24want to see guy Docent googling. See he can he can use the phone.
- 1:28:29Dave Gleason not dead. Paul was seen unfortunately passed away. Rest in
