- 0:00Speaker 1: Lisa Foxer. This is the iHeart So Cale show or
- 0:02Speaker 1: so that puts the spotlight on churnable organizations, nonprofits and
- 0:06Speaker 1: people giving back. And boy, it's our turn to get
- 0:08Speaker 1: back throughout the entire month of March. Happy March. First,
- 0:12Speaker 1: it's time to make March Matter for Children's Hospital Los
- 0:15Speaker 1: Angeles in their eleventh year, the eleventh Annuel campaign for
- 0:19Speaker 1: this it's a great time as a special month long
- 0:21Speaker 1: fundraising campaign that brings together local businesses and the community
- 0:24Speaker 1: together to raise funds and awareness for all the great
- 0:26Speaker 1: things that as Cochla does for these kids who are
- 0:29Speaker 1: going through so much. Make Marchmatter dot org as our
- 0:32Speaker 1: website for all information. But we're going to dive into
- 0:34Speaker 1: it with the Don Wilcox, the gal that's like kind
- 0:36Speaker 1: of behind this whole thing. Hi, Don, Hi, Lisa already
- 0:40Speaker 1: craving the Panda Express. Panda Express one to hear her
- 0:43Speaker 1: regulars goes above and beyond every March, especially for this campaign.
- 0:46Speaker 1: So I'm already craving the panda to help make a difference.
- 0:50Speaker 2: You know, it's a good thing. There's thirty one days
- 0:52Speaker 2: in March because we gotta space it out. There's so
- 0:55Speaker 2: much good food to be had this month.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Not much good food. And wow, so eleven years doing
- 0:59Speaker 1: this month long event you kind of created and came
- 1:01Speaker 1: up with and you know, a collaboration with so many
- 1:04Speaker 1: local businesses and partners and you've created kind of a
- 1:07Speaker 1: month long way to engage people and have some fun
- 1:10Speaker 1: and spend so many proceeds going to the hospital, but
- 1:13Speaker 1: also some fun things and new things maybe we haven't
- 1:15Speaker 1: done before. You know, all these cooking classes, shopping events
- 1:18Speaker 1: and restaurants and activities, so much to see and do
- 1:22Speaker 1: that all goes to help the hospital and the kids.
- 1:26Speaker 1: It's a perfect combination of having some fun and helping
- 1:29Speaker 1: the kids.
- 1:30Speaker 2: It really is. And you know, our goal and the
- 1:33Speaker 2: dream really behind this month was to show the community
- 1:37Speaker 2: how easy it is to give back and how fun
- 1:40Speaker 2: it can be, and then to show businesses that they
- 1:44Speaker 2: can do well by doing good by getting involved and
- 1:47Speaker 2: giving back, and we will. It's just this beautiful partnership
- 1:51Speaker 2: and collaboration all month long.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I love it and I'm happy to announce to you
- 1:54Speaker 1: don I've already been involved in a fundraiser because I
- 1:57Speaker 1: purchased tickets for my honey and I to be there.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Lak we love our Kings, Go, Kings Go, especially fresh
- 2:02Speaker 1: off our win in the Olympics, so exciting. Uh. So
- 2:06Speaker 1: there are games in March. Home games in March. Proceeds
- 2:09Speaker 1: go to Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and we are locked
- 2:12Speaker 1: in for the March seventh game against the Canadians.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Yes, they have six games. Actually I think six home.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Games, six hard games. Oh my goodness. Okay, so I
- 2:22Speaker 1: bought I'm locked in for March seventh. So there's more
- 2:24Speaker 1: games than just March seventh.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Okay, exactly. So if you can't make it to March seventh,
- 2:28Speaker 2: if your listeners want to go to a different game,
- 2:30Speaker 2: they can look at all the games that month that
- 2:32Speaker 2: are going to benefit CCHLA. And you're right. I think
- 2:35Speaker 2: there's just this kind of extra excitement for seeing our
- 2:39Speaker 2: team play and especially knowing that it's giving back to
- 2:42Speaker 2: CCHLA at the same time.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And you know, the LA Kings are such a great
- 2:46Speaker 1: partner's year round for Children's Hospital with the blood drives
- 2:49Speaker 1: and so many special things that they do. But to
- 2:51Speaker 1: know that that night we can go cheer on our
- 2:53Speaker 1: our favorite team, or like you said, all the home
- 2:56Speaker 1: games in the month of March is just an extra
- 2:59Speaker 1: great to go to an Ellie King's game in the
- 3:02Speaker 1: month of March to benefit Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Plus
- 3:05Speaker 1: right shopping events, food events, jewelry events.
- 3:08Speaker 2: So we as always we have a lot of restaurants,
- 3:12Speaker 2: and we really tried to look at all of southern California,
- 3:15Speaker 2: so people, regardless of where they live, know that there's
- 3:18Speaker 2: probably a pand Express location like you mentioned near them
- 3:22Speaker 2: that they can go and make a donation at the register.
- 3:25Speaker 2: And what's really rewarding I think for me too in
- 3:28Speaker 2: the month of March, is that the Panda Express employees
- 3:31Speaker 2: also a portion of their paychecks in the months of March.
- 3:36Speaker 2: So nice, everyone's involved. Porthos is back doing a special cookie.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I got to see a little sneak peak today. It's
- 3:44Speaker 2: you know, their cookies are so good and it's a
- 3:47Speaker 2: really cute, fun butterfly cookie. Randy's Donuts back another fun
- 3:53Speaker 2: make much better donut. All their locations, so thank goodness.
- 3:57Speaker 2: There's a marathon, and there's some other ways to work
- 4:00Speaker 2: off the food, to work off all these fun desserts
- 4:03Speaker 2: and treats. But you know, and Alfred Coffee, they've been
- 4:07Speaker 2: with us. This is their eleventh year. They were one
- 4:09Speaker 2: of the early adopters of make March Matter. And they
- 4:12Speaker 2: have even more locations now.
- 4:15Speaker 1: And Alfred Coffee is so delicious. It's really good. I'd
- 4:18Speaker 1: only gone there like in the past few years because
- 4:20Speaker 1: make March Matter, and it's really worth the trip. If
- 4:23Speaker 1: you're not an Alfred Coffee fan already, you got to
- 4:25Speaker 1: jump on board. It's a really delicious coffee.
- 4:27Speaker 2: It's so good. And they're doing all things lavender in
- 4:30Speaker 2: the month of March, so even if you get a tea,
- 4:33Speaker 2: but you can get the lavender Mattalin cookie, or you
- 4:35Speaker 2: can buy their lavender syrup or get the lavender latte,
- 4:39Speaker 2: so all things lavender make March matter. At Alfred, we
- 4:42Speaker 2: have a new bagel place, Pops Bagels is doing a
- 4:46Speaker 2: rainbow bagel actually, and then it's doning in a percentage
- 4:49Speaker 2: of sales. So there's I promise you there is a restaurant,
- 4:53Speaker 2: a sweet treat or a coffee shop near everybody in
- 4:57Speaker 2: southern California where they can make March matter.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Since I have you on every year for this kind
- 5:02Speaker 1: of talk about how this brainstorm came about. You know,
- 5:05Speaker 1: we thought, oh, hey, I'm going to go knock on
- 5:06Speaker 1: doors and ask local businesses and companies to give up
- 5:09Speaker 1: proceeds for a day, a week, a month, the entire
- 5:13Speaker 1: month and how they respond And now, like the demandages
- 5:17Speaker 1: more and more people gets bigger and bigger every year.
- 5:20Speaker 1: But like eleven years ago, that says a lot about
- 5:23Speaker 1: your vision and how it's all kind of working out,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and such a great thing that folks look forward to
- 5:27Speaker 1: every March for children's hospital.
- 5:29Speaker 2: There's so many great causes always, right, there's so many
- 5:33Speaker 2: things that we could all support, and a lot of
- 5:35Speaker 2: them were dedicating days or weeks or months to their
- 5:39Speaker 2: cause and then uniting businesses and individuals to support. And
- 5:43Speaker 2: I looked around eleven years ago and didn't see anything
- 5:46Speaker 2: to support children, children's health, children's hospitals specifically in CHLA,
- 5:52Speaker 2: Los Angeles, very specifically. So it was an opportunity to say,
- 5:56Speaker 2: let's pick a month. I like tying in our butterflce
- 6:00Speaker 2: wy to springtime, and so that's where March came from.
- 6:04Speaker 2: That's so a long month, you know, and I do
- 6:07Speaker 2: as exhausting as it can feel at times, but it's
- 6:09Speaker 2: great to have all thirty one days to give back.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And then for the businesses, a lot of them can't
- 6:16Speaker 2: participate all year round. They have a lot of initiatives
- 6:20Speaker 2: or other things they need to focus on, but they
- 6:21Speaker 2: could dedicate that month and once a few businesses joined in,
- 6:26Speaker 2: then every year it got a little bit bigger. This
- 6:29Speaker 2: year we have ninety two partners on board already, so
- 6:32Speaker 2: great and businesses will call us and say, we've heard
- 6:35Speaker 2: about this. We want to be a part of it.
- 6:37Speaker 2: We want to feel good knowing that our donation, our commitment,
- 6:41Speaker 2: our ability to give our customers and employees a chance
- 6:44Speaker 2: to fundraise is going to make a direct impact on
- 6:48Speaker 2: the kids that we treat and we can show them that.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Yeah, in the past, I mean, my gosh, how much
- 6:53Speaker 1: we've raised a lot of money over the years. Right,
- 6:55Speaker 1: every March kind of.
- 6:56Speaker 2: A target millions, yes' familion. Yet we set a goal
- 7:01Speaker 2: every year of raising a million or more in March.
- 7:04Speaker 2: But this year, because the hospital is celebrating one hundred
- 7:07Speaker 2: and twenty five years on April first, we've decided to
- 7:11Speaker 2: increase our goal to one point twenty five million. Okay,
- 7:15Speaker 2: I am sure that we can do, especially if everybody
- 7:17Speaker 2: goes out and gets that coffee or you know, donates
- 7:20Speaker 2: to the register when they're asked to round up or
- 7:23Speaker 2: does the shopping event get those Kings take a marathon.
- 7:27Speaker 1: La King's tickets, right, it's the.
- 7:29Speaker 2: La King's ticket. There's just there's a lot of really
- 7:32Speaker 2: fun ways, and there's you know, we had I got
- 7:35Speaker 2: to spend some time with one of our businesses today
- 7:38Speaker 2: that make these adorable stuffed penguins that are so cuddly.
- 7:42Speaker 2: And I have a sixteen year old daughter. She cuddles
- 7:45Speaker 2: with this penguin and proceeds all come back to the hospital.
- 7:48Speaker 2: So everybody's figured out a way to give back. And
- 7:53Speaker 2: that's what makes this month so special for me, is
- 7:55Speaker 2: to see it all unfold.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Sure and again it's about making March matter and not
- 8:00Speaker 1: just taking the month for granted. I guess I can say,
- 8:02Speaker 1: you know, when I logged on, okay, what can I do?
- 8:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna map out my schedule, map out my plans.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Let's do a cooking class at Italy. Italy is a
- 8:11Speaker 1: deferent the regulars now right Italy Daisy's cooking classes and
- 8:15Speaker 1: it's a popular restaurant and market and they sell out
- 8:19Speaker 1: so fast because people already love this place. It's a
- 8:22Speaker 1: great way to learn how to make amazing, delicious Italian
- 8:25Speaker 1: dishes and in the month of March it helps the hospital.
- 8:28Speaker 2: They have a couple of pasta making ones. I saw
- 8:30Speaker 2: pizza making one. There's some that are appropriate for kids.
- 8:35Speaker 2: I mean, they've been such a wonderful partner and they
- 8:37Speaker 2: donate all the proceeds from that every year.
- 8:40Speaker 1: That's Westfield Century City.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Mall, right, Italy. It's Century City Mall.
- 8:44Speaker 1: And in fact, there's at least I think like five
- 8:46Speaker 1: or six. There's a whole bunch of cooking classes throughout
- 8:47Speaker 1: the month of March. You can log on to the
- 8:49Speaker 1: website makemarchmatter dot org and see what fits in your schedule,
- 8:53Speaker 1: what fits in your budget. There's Jimmy Choo shopping events.
- 8:56Speaker 1: There's now it's Monday Swimwhere are they a new partner
- 9:00Speaker 1: because I don't remember that name, but they're what, oh great,
- 9:02Speaker 1: they're doing so much this month.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Yes, they are a new partner of ours. We actually
- 9:07Speaker 2: have a few brands like that that were just brand
- 9:09Speaker 2: new this year and they're doing a Monday Swimwear is
- 9:11Speaker 2: doing a percentage of sales the week of March thirteenth.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Beautiful sorongs and beautiful bathing suits from men and women.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I mean really nice stuff.
- 9:19Speaker 2: And I mean, let's face it, we've already had winter.
- 9:21Speaker 2: It's apparently over in Los Angeles, so we can go
- 9:24Speaker 2: out and buy our bathing suits and get ready for summer.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Yep, yep, and then much needed. You know, in this
- 9:29Speaker 1: day and age, people are going through a lot. I
- 9:31Speaker 1: love that you're doing a Laugh Factory comedy night that
- 9:34Speaker 1: with proceeds going to Children's Hospital.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Yes, that's a new one for us as well. We've
- 9:38Speaker 2: often talked about, you know, what are some new things
- 9:41Speaker 2: that we could do, some new events, new audiences that
- 9:44Speaker 2: we can involve, and the Laugh Factory came on board
- 9:47Speaker 2: and they're dedicating the special night of comedy for us,
- 9:50Speaker 2: and the comedians involved are donating their time. So that's
- 9:54Speaker 2: going to be a great night, Kender Scott. You know,
- 9:58Speaker 2: we have so many jewelers, amazing jewelry, all price points.
- 10:02Speaker 2: You know, there's literally something for everyone. Now look at
- 10:06Speaker 2: the website because it's like to your point, you could
- 10:08Speaker 2: map it out for the whole month and say, I know,
- 10:11Speaker 2: I'm going to be in Central City this weekend, or
- 10:13Speaker 2: I'm going to be in Culver City, or I'm going
- 10:15Speaker 2: to be in the South Bay or the Valley. There
- 10:17Speaker 2: are businesses truly everywhere and events that you could tap
- 10:21Speaker 2: into and join us.
- 10:22Speaker 1: And when you walk into a Panda Express in the
- 10:24Speaker 1: month of March, starting today, the entire month of March,
- 10:27Speaker 1: it'll be very clear that they're doing something special for
- 10:29Speaker 1: Children's Hospital Los Angeles. So when you go in there
- 10:32Speaker 1: and you order your orange chicken or your Kung pou chicken,
- 10:35Speaker 1: or your oh the honey walnuts shrimp with the little
- 10:38Speaker 1: crunchy things it's a problem for me. Or some beefrom
- 10:41Speaker 1: broccoli or your egg rolls or whatever you're getting from Panda,
- 10:46Speaker 1: know that when you buy in the month of March,
- 10:48Speaker 1: proses are going to Children's Hospital Los Angeles. And they
- 10:51Speaker 1: have a little thing where you can also give cash
- 10:53Speaker 1: at the checkout, making it extra easy to get more.
- 10:56Speaker 1: And the employees are so dedicated to this cause and
- 10:59Speaker 1: so extra suitet about it.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Yes they are, and they're they're that whole company is
- 11:04Speaker 2: so dedicated to children's health and improving the lives of children.
- 11:08Speaker 2: And you can really you can see it all the
- 11:10Speaker 2: way from the owners of the company to the store
- 11:13Speaker 2: managers to everyone that works there. They will ask you
- 11:16Speaker 2: would you like to round up would you like to donate?
- 11:19Speaker 2: And every one of those donations adds up in such
- 11:22Speaker 2: a huge way.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Yeah, And the owners of Panic Express have been known
- 11:26Speaker 1: for being so filmthropic. What do you think it is
- 11:28Speaker 1: this connection with that children's hospital. Boy, they really go
- 11:30Speaker 1: above and beyond every year they really they do.
- 11:34Speaker 2: It is so much honestly, because I just think they
- 11:37Speaker 2: they know how many lives Children's Hostile Los Angeles has touched,
- 11:42Speaker 2: and many of their own employees have had their children
- 11:45Speaker 2: treated at the hospital and have shared their stories, and
- 11:49Speaker 2: so it's meaningful. It's you know, it's right in their backyard,
- 11:54Speaker 2: you know. They then they've been supporting us for years.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Yep, yep. And if you have ice cream, thank you
- 11:59Speaker 1: dairy Queen for doing a special event for Children's House
- 12:02Speaker 1: of Los Angeles in March their.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Dip It Day, Yes, dip it Day for the kids.
- 12:08Speaker 2: So we love that. If you make a donation, you
- 12:11Speaker 2: get your cone dipped for free, so it is a
- 12:13Speaker 2: win win see.
- 12:15Speaker 1: And then we love BJ's BJ's Restaurants. We have a
- 12:18Speaker 1: BJ's right down the street here in Burbank where iHeartRadio
- 12:21Speaker 1: is located. And oh BJ's burd Bank March when he
- 12:23Speaker 1: first is doing a big thing. Talk about that.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Yes, so they say no.
- 12:27Speaker 1: To pazuki pazuki and.
- 12:30Speaker 2: We last year we took a big group of people
- 12:32Speaker 2: into BJ's and they were so lovely and wonderful. We
- 12:36Speaker 2: shared a bunch of different kind of pazukis. And you know,
- 12:39Speaker 2: there's there is something for everyone too, Like if you're thinking, Okay,
- 12:42Speaker 2: I'm gonna eat a healthy salad so I can have
- 12:44Speaker 2: that pazuki for dessert, they got you covered.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Yeah, their food is really delicious. We love BJS. And
- 12:50Speaker 1: then what's this? I s USC is also getting on this.
- 12:52Speaker 1: They're doing a big Trojan dance marathons.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Yes, their second or third year, but this time they
- 12:57Speaker 2: were able to schedule it in March.
- 12:59Speaker 1: All right, got it?
- 13:00Speaker 2: And they love participating and make much matter because they
- 13:03Speaker 2: get to celebrate that. And they've raised upwards of thirty
- 13:07Speaker 2: and forty thousand dollars all their students coming together and
- 13:11Speaker 2: just dancing for I think they go twenty four hours,
- 13:14Speaker 2: which wild, but yeah, yeah, they can do it.
- 13:18Speaker 1: That's right, that's right. They got that's youthful college energy.
- 13:21Speaker 1: That's so great. And then and then again for anyone
- 13:25Speaker 1: listening at local business or local company. If you want
- 13:27Speaker 1: to get involved in this, probably a little too late
- 13:29Speaker 1: to do it for this year, but boy, you can
- 13:30Speaker 1: get in touch with Don Rasily through the website and
- 13:33Speaker 1: pitch yourself for next year and be a part of
- 13:35Speaker 1: all this love and giving back. And you know, look,
- 13:38Speaker 1: I know sometimes you're on Channel five and on the radio.
- 13:41Speaker 1: It's a great way to promote these partners that just
- 13:44Speaker 1: want to give back and help kids and I think
- 13:46Speaker 1: a very healthy partnership to be a part of. And
- 13:49Speaker 1: they could plan to do it for next year right off.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Re up and get your business or company involved.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Absolutely. We've had some businesses hear it on the radio
- 13:57Speaker 2: and then call and say, we're doing it. We're going
- 13:59Speaker 2: to jump right in, We're going to do it this year.
- 14:01Speaker 2: They create, you know, an idea promotion, they decide to
- 14:04Speaker 2: do percentage of sales or an event, and then they're in.
- 14:08Speaker 2: It's it's really easy. You could go to the website
- 14:11Speaker 2: and click on I want to join the campaign and
- 14:14Speaker 2: we'll send you all the information. So we will definitely
- 14:18Speaker 2: have people join in later in the month or if
- 14:20Speaker 2: they want to talk to us in brainstorm some big
- 14:23Speaker 2: ideas for next year. I assure you, we will be
- 14:26Speaker 2: back for year twelve.
- 14:27Speaker 1: And then today being March first and all, great way
- 14:29Speaker 1: to kick it off. Let's give some love to Dialogue
- 14:32Speaker 1: Cafe because Dialogue Cafe is doing a bunch and it
- 14:34Speaker 1: kicks off today with them, and it's like a smoothie
- 14:37Speaker 1: or a strawberry drink.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Right they are jumping in right out of the gate.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Like you said, March first to third. They're doing one
- 14:43Speaker 2: hundred percent of sales from this special drink. So that
- 14:47Speaker 2: is get just kick off March right away and know
- 14:51Speaker 2: that one hundred percent of sales is going to come
- 14:53Speaker 2: back to the hospital.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Dialogue Cafe, thank you, and just yeah, so many great
- 14:57Speaker 1: organizations and the LA Marathon, you don't have I have
- 15:00Speaker 1: to run it. You know, I've survived a few LA marathons,
- 15:02Speaker 1: don I've survived a few halfs I've done one time
- 15:05Speaker 1: I did the half survived. I'm pretty sure I came
- 15:07Speaker 1: in last that year, but it was for Children's Hospital
- 15:09Speaker 1: Los Angeles, so I was able to get through the
- 15:11Speaker 1: you know, the half marathon. And what a bunch of
- 15:14Speaker 1: sweet people who do the marathon on behalf of CHLA
- 15:18Speaker 1: And if you don't want to run it, it's okay,
- 15:20Speaker 1: but you can donate towards the COCHLA team and proceeds
- 15:24Speaker 1: go back to the hospital.
- 15:25Speaker 2: They do. And we have a goal of raising one
- 15:27Speaker 2: hundred thousand dollars this year with our team, our team Runners,
- 15:31Speaker 2: and we're getting close. I think we're close to about
- 15:33Speaker 2: eighty thousand, so I am confident we'll exceed our goal
- 15:36Speaker 2: by March eighth. And we do have a little cheer
- 15:39Speaker 2: zone out across from the hospital on Hillhurst, so people
- 15:44Speaker 2: want to come out and cheer on all the runners.
- 15:47Speaker 2: And if you want to cheer on CHLA runners, we
- 15:49Speaker 2: would love to have you. One of my favorite years
- 15:51Speaker 2: was the year you and I did it together. And
- 15:54Speaker 2: then last year I was out at the cheer zone
- 15:56Speaker 2: and people would just come by and yell out we

- 18:31Speaker 2: and they are out using their voice to talk about
