- 1:29Speaker 4: It's a podcast called twenty five Whistles, twine.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Wheels, Eddie blow the whistle. All right, Uh, relevant sports
- 1:39Speaker 1: stuff coming up in a minute. That's what we do,
- 1:42Speaker 1: yes sometimes, but I do think there's a we need
- 1:45Speaker 1: to have a little announcement here. I think it just
- 1:48Speaker 1: needs to be said. So on this show the whole
- 1:51Speaker 1: time we've done the show. My name is Bobby and
- 1:54Speaker 1: that's Eddie kick Off. Kevin Mike is producing the show.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Casey Digital edits video Reid, who's been my guy that's
- 2:05Speaker 1: been on the road with me and in life and
- 2:08Speaker 1: and all creative content, La La. We told you Reid
- 2:11Speaker 1: was leaving and read was moving reads about to be wife,
- 2:16Speaker 1: is going to be a doctor, and that program works.
- 2:20Speaker 1: You kind of don't get to pick.
- 2:21Speaker 5: Where you go.
- 2:21Speaker 6: No, not really. It's it's like a sorority thing.
- 2:24Speaker 1: It's like, ah, never did that, so they pilified it doctor.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Sometimes it depends on the program, you know, so what
- 2:31Speaker 1: do you mean? What do you mean by that?
- 2:32Speaker 6: So it's like it's like they make a make a
- 2:35Speaker 6: list and then it basically goes down like.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Oh, like picking a sorority not being in one.
- 2:40Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like how they pick you for sure. Yeah,
- 2:43Speaker 1: I never been an authority. I didn't know what I
- 2:44Speaker 1: was talking about. Dude, Yeah, were you in a fraternity?
- 2:48Speaker 6: I was.
- 2:49Speaker 5: Remember they took him.
- 2:50Speaker 1: The woods, I know, and they played the rooster song. Yeah,
- 2:52Speaker 1: but I don't know if did they he stayed in
- 2:54Speaker 1: after that?
- 2:55Speaker 5: Did you?
- 2:56Speaker 6: I got cut? I came back though, I went through
- 2:59Speaker 6: it again.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Redemption story. That's a story for Disney, not even an
- 3:03Speaker 1: out of the day, but like maybe later today.
- 3:05Speaker 6: And it was and it was weird because like I
- 3:07Speaker 6: knew what was happening, even though all the other like
- 3:09Speaker 6: new pledges didn't know what was happening.
- 3:11Speaker 7: Was happening and they's abducted you. Yeah, like I had
- 3:13Speaker 7: to go through that again. So then just hold off
- 3:15Speaker 7: on that story. Yeah, hold off a hold all right, story. Okay,
- 3:19Speaker 7: So Reid is engaged, is going to be married.
- 3:24Speaker 1: He told his about to be a wife that wherever
- 3:27Speaker 1: she goes, he's just gonna go with her.
- 3:30Speaker 6: Love man love, man.
- 3:33Speaker 5: Love.
- 3:34Speaker 1: And so you guys have been living apart for how long?
- 3:38Speaker 6: So we've been together seven years. Out of those seven years,
- 3:41Speaker 6: we've lived five years apart.
- 3:43Speaker 1: And you would drive down to light Yeah.
- 3:45Speaker 6: It's been Monroe, Louisiana for four of those years. And
- 3:48Speaker 6: it's seven and a half hour drive, so try to
- 3:52Speaker 6: go once a month. So dude, I put some miles
- 3:54Speaker 6: on the car.
- 3:55Speaker 5: Love man love her man love.
- 3:58Speaker 1: He's like, but and I told him second time, at
- 4:00Speaker 1: least don't let me be naked when you have Doug. Dude,
- 4:03Speaker 1: we're not there right now.
- 4:05Speaker 6: We'll get to it.
- 4:06Speaker 1: So, uh, she had picked our places in like Little
- 4:10Speaker 1: Rock I think was an option, you like Little Rock, Texas, Memphis, Yeah,
- 4:16Speaker 1: Lewis and then any far far Ones Orlando was like
- 4:19Speaker 1: the furthest and that we mainly just put that because
- 4:23Speaker 1: like worst case, like Disney man, yeah, Disney, I mean
- 4:26Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying, like Disney World. So without saying
- 4:30Speaker 1: it though, but she has her place, did she pick it?
- 4:35Speaker 6: So we we were battling between what do you mean
- 4:39Speaker 6: battling like we were like we were trying to decide
- 4:42Speaker 6: where to list, like where, So you're listing in order
- 4:45Speaker 6: and then they're listing in order when they kind of
- 4:46Speaker 6: match them, yes, exactly, and so it already done, like
- 4:49Speaker 6: have any idea say that?
- 4:52Speaker 5: And Nashville was not an option.
- 4:54Speaker 8: No, not for pediatrics, stupid kids, kids, all right, So
- 5:01Speaker 8: go ahead, and so you're listing them, and so you
- 5:04Speaker 8: are deciding on.
- 5:05Speaker 5: Your order mm hmm.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And in your version, what did you want to be
- 5:09Speaker 1: number one?
- 5:10Speaker 6: So at first I wanted it to be Memphis because like,
- 5:14Speaker 6: her family's close to there, and like I'm closer to
- 5:17Speaker 6: Nashville that way too, And so then we went to
- 5:20Speaker 6: Saint Louis to do a second look. It was also
- 5:23Speaker 6: Valentine's weekend, so we were like, we'll just also make
- 5:25Speaker 6: a trip out of it, and so we went there
- 5:28Speaker 6: and just the vibe of like not turning the street
- 5:31Speaker 6: and worrying about your safety was a little bit better.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Wait, have you been okay anyway better or better?
- 5:37Speaker 6: No? Better? Though? What as far as for her going
- 5:40Speaker 6: to the hospital, like when she did her like that
- 5:42Speaker 6: specific block, exactly got it, okay, exactly, you drove the route, yeah,
- 5:46Speaker 6: okay her, Yeah, because yeah, when she did her little
- 5:49Speaker 6: rotation in Memphis, she had to like get up at
- 5:52Speaker 6: like four in the morning and like literally step over
- 5:53Speaker 6: homeless dudes to get to the parking lot and like.
- 5:56Speaker 1: That that's okay regardless.
- 5:58Speaker 6: Yeah, anyway, I hear you. Way as far as vibes is, like,
- 6:01Speaker 6: it's it's an hour. It's an hour further way further
- 6:04Speaker 6: away than Memphis is to Nashville, so it's like four
- 6:08Speaker 6: and a half hours from here, and the like living
- 6:13Speaker 6: lifestyle there like just seemed a whole lot better as
- 6:16Speaker 6: far as like people were actually going out and doing stuff.
- 6:18Speaker 1: And I think it was just where you were looking
- 6:20Speaker 1: at that block at that time though, because you're like
- 6:22Speaker 1: people had on hats. I'm like, no, dude, that's just
- 6:24Speaker 1: weren't people in hats where you were. That's true. But
- 6:27Speaker 1: I hear you, Yeah, so you from your experience, you
- 6:31Speaker 1: like this doesn't mean picked it, but you liked, say
- 6:34Speaker 1: lois over Memphis now and you guys is ranking for sure,
- 6:37Speaker 1: and so but now you're wedding on their ranking to
- 6:39Speaker 1: come back. Yep, exactly, and you get the rankings back.
- 6:44Speaker 1: And it turns out, which, by the way, if Reid
- 6:47Speaker 1: was going to live in Memphis, we're going to find
- 6:49Speaker 1: a way from to You don't be here a little
- 6:50Speaker 1: bit close enough, close enough. I can't be here all
- 6:52Speaker 1: the time. Obviously he's got a life. It really felt
- 6:55Speaker 1: like if Memphis was going to be But apparently there's
- 7:00Speaker 1: a homeless person that.
- 7:03Speaker 6: Shook the whole that one guy.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Dang it, So what happened.
- 7:09Speaker 6: So it turns out I'm going to the lou Baby,
- 7:11Speaker 6: I'm going to be a cardinal.
- 7:14Speaker 1: No, no, you're not going to school there.
- 7:17Speaker 6: No, I'm not signing.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, they also have the Rims.
- 7:20Speaker 6: Yeah we do get we do get tickets to the Cardinals.
- 7:22Speaker 1: So you're moving to St.
- 7:26Speaker 6: I'm moving to St.
- 7:26Speaker 9: Louis.
- 7:27Speaker 6: And dude, we've been on the freaking grind trying to
- 7:30Speaker 6: find a place and it's kind of a nightmare. But
- 7:34Speaker 6: we were like, do we do we buy? Do we
- 7:36Speaker 6: do we rent? And so I think we're just gonna
- 7:40Speaker 6: rent for for the first year and try to figure
- 7:42Speaker 6: things out because I mean, no, no, we don't care
- 7:44Speaker 6: about this part.
- 7:45Speaker 5: Yeah, like what kind of bed do we?
- 7:48Speaker 1: Yeah? Which part of wayfair? No, we're going Wait so
- 7:55Speaker 1: you are when is your last day with us?
- 7:58Speaker 6: Last day here would be made for some of the
- 8:01Speaker 6: moving is probably going to be like that May third weekend.
- 8:05Speaker 1: And how sad are you because there are sacrifices? Yeah, obviously,
- 8:12Speaker 1: how sad are you because you have to leave this?
- 8:16Speaker 6: I'm extremely sad because I mean as far as like
- 8:19Speaker 6: like being around like you guys, and like the connections
- 8:23Speaker 6: I've made and just being able to do cool stuff
- 8:25Speaker 6: like freaking go to California and potentially go to a
- 8:28Speaker 6: razorback game is like when when do you ever get
- 8:31Speaker 6: to do that sort of stuff? So like, that's that's
- 8:33Speaker 6: going to be sad, But I'm just I'm also excited
- 8:37Speaker 6: to just kind of.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Figure out of the super Bowl. I took him to
- 8:39Speaker 1: the super Bowl. I know that's three weeks ago, and
- 8:40Speaker 1: I would have picked the super Bowl.
- 8:42Speaker 6: He's like, for example, you know, yeah, you're right, You're right.
- 8:45Speaker 6: Super Bowl is definitely.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Too many almost guys steping over there and getting to
- 8:48Speaker 1: the game.
- 8:50Speaker 6: For sure, there's too many things to count. But but
- 8:54Speaker 6: I mean, my ultimate dream is always to have my
- 8:56Speaker 6: own production company, So I would love to just I
- 8:59Speaker 6: want to get as much business coming my way to
- 9:01Speaker 6: where I can just start hiring people and and do that.
- 9:04Speaker 6: So it's gonna be it's gonna be a struggle a
- 9:06Speaker 6: little bit, but I'm gonna be in town. I know
- 9:09Speaker 6: you'll probably say that, like, Okay, yeah, he says he's
- 9:11Speaker 6: gonna come back in town.
- 9:12Speaker 1: This is definitely high school graduation where we're gonna be friends,
- 9:15Speaker 1: We're always going to stay in touch. Yeah never Yeah,
- 9:17Speaker 1: well you'll be here once every seven weeks and your product,
- 9:21Speaker 1: Ruby's not going to start, so that you sucked. What
- 9:26Speaker 1: I completely shut him down is like that's gonna work.
- 9:30Speaker 1: You gotta you have years now that you have to
- 9:32Speaker 1: dedicate to her, and that you're not gonna be able
- 9:35Speaker 1: to build anything here. Why not build it there? Is
- 9:37Speaker 1: my point, not that there's a lot of work, as
- 9:39Speaker 1: much work there, but because this is the town where
- 9:41Speaker 1: there's big creative hub.
- 9:42Speaker 5: But yeah, new the cardinal's over there though.
- 9:46Speaker 1: He is one, right, So you're moving to Saint Louis,
- 9:50Speaker 1: moving to Saint Louis and you're leaving all of us behind.
- 9:55Speaker 6: Damn, I'll be back, I promise I will. No, I'll
- 9:58Speaker 6: be back. I will be knocking at you your door.
- 10:00Speaker 3: No you won't.
- 10:01Speaker 5: Yes, I will watch me he comes to our windows.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Congratulations, at least there is some closure on where you're
- 10:11Speaker 1: going to live. And sure how she feel about it?
- 10:13Speaker 6: For she? I mean yeah, she felt great. It's such
- 10:15Speaker 6: an incredible program and like super prestigious for for pediatrics
- 10:19Speaker 6: and stuff like that. So she's she's super pumped and
- 10:22Speaker 6: she's going to get good education there. So good for you.
- 10:27Speaker 5: Read Yeah, thanks man, Good for you.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Man.
- 10:30Speaker 6: That didn't really sound very enthusiastic.
- 10:31Speaker 5: Well, we're sad. We're sad you're leaving.
- 10:33Speaker 1: We are sad you're leaving because you've been a big
- 10:35Speaker 1: part of the group. But we also know once you're gone,
- 10:38Speaker 1: you're gone. You're back, dude, it's not you may come
- 10:42Speaker 1: back occasionally, but you're not coming back.
- 10:46Speaker 5: Like Kevin didn't even invite us to his wedding.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Of course, this is what happened with Kevin, because Kevin
- 10:55Speaker 1: has like wedding party, a wedding, He has like all
- 10:58Speaker 1: this baptism he has like you were there, he has
- 11:01Speaker 1: like a gathering to talk about the partie or there's cake.
- 11:05Speaker 1: And so we're on here going. We could nobody got
- 11:08Speaker 1: invited a crap and it wouldn't have mattered. But he
- 11:09Speaker 1: invited like another random guy that works in the building.
- 11:12Speaker 1: If it was only like like family would have got it.
- 11:16Speaker 1: So he uh was gone on his honeymoon. And I
- 11:20Speaker 1: posted that episode not too him by we're talking about him, Yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 1: and and the headline is like Kevin eats balls or
- 11:27Speaker 1: something or whatever it.
- 11:28Speaker 6: Was Bobby and Eddie get upset with Kevin.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Yeah, And so I swipe up to so looked at it,
- 11:34Speaker 1: and I saw Kevin looked at it, and I was like,
- 11:36Speaker 1: you for sure could not have kept his curiosity if
- 11:39Speaker 1: I'm listening to this episode honeymoon, like.
- 11:41Speaker 5: What the hell are they saying about me over there?
- 11:44Speaker 1: So yes, I'm sorry, guess again, but you live here,
- 11:47Speaker 1: so we're good. And he still So that's my pointed
- 11:52Speaker 1: you were, It's gonna be awesome. Good luck to you.

- 12:01Speaker 5: On up, Good luck man, I'll be around.
- 12:03Speaker 1: You're not.
- 12:04Speaker 5: Oh my god, just stop saying it's high school.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Right, it's high school.
- 12:07Speaker 6: It's okay, you're gonna move on with life and that's okay, but.
- 12:10Speaker 1: It's and that's awesome. Yeah, but it really will be
- 12:12Speaker 1: friends forever right in the yearbook and like, yeah, I
- 12:15Speaker 1: have a fun memory of them.
- 12:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Have I talked to them in eight years?
- 12:19Speaker 5: No? And that's okay.
- 12:22Speaker 6: Yeah, it's not like eight hours away, like I drove
- 12:25Speaker 6: seven and a half hours every month for four.
- 12:28Speaker 5: Years because you're going to marry her.
- 12:30Speaker 1: But I love you, guys. Are you gonna do stuff
- 12:34Speaker 1: to me? Okay? Then no, that's that's it. Yeah, that's fair,
- 12:38Speaker 1: all right, exactly. Okay, So that's that. We do have
- 12:43Speaker 1: sports stuff to talk about. Let's take a break. We
- 12:46Speaker 1: will come back. Coach Lukelax, a new Florida state head coach,

- 14:39Speaker 1: a Warriors assistant, won two NBA championships with the Warriors,
- 14:42Speaker 1: spent a few years with the Kings. Pretty cool to

- 15:47Speaker 1: him while he was there and got to know you
- 15:48Speaker 1: as a player.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Is that true, that's true? Yep, that's pretty cool.
- 15:53Speaker 1: It's just so cool to be able to wear your
- 15:54Speaker 1: logo again, like again, after you've done your thing. You
- 15:58Speaker 1: play ball at the highest level, played overseas, but you
- 16:01Speaker 1: get to where your logo. How quickly did this come together?
- 16:03Speaker 3: It was quite a long process.
- 16:05Speaker 9: I knew there was a chance just with Coach Hamilton's
- 16:08Speaker 9: age and Coach Hamilton's a mentor of mine, so we
- 16:10Speaker 9: kept in close communication throughout the years, both when I
- 16:14Speaker 9: was playing professionally overseas and in the minor leagues of
- 16:18Speaker 9: the NBA, and as my coaching career got started, he
- 16:21Speaker 9: was He's one of my mentors. He's a close friend
- 16:23Speaker 9: of mine, so he helped me in a lot of
- 16:24Speaker 9: different ways as my career began to take off in
- 16:28Speaker 9: the NBA and through that, you know, naturally he's hit
- 16:33Speaker 9: a point in his career where eventually you got to
- 16:35Speaker 9: you got to move on to other things. And he
- 16:37Speaker 9: had such a good run and so successful on and
- 16:41Speaker 9: off the court, so I knew, you know, just timing wise,
- 16:45Speaker 9: there could be a chance.
- 16:46Speaker 3: But it's never real until it's real.
- 16:49Speaker 9: So over the past you know, six months to a year,
- 16:53Speaker 9: it became it began to be a little more real.
- 16:56Speaker 9: And then once the actual interview process took place, you know,
- 17:01Speaker 9: I felt like I got a good shot at it,
- 17:03Speaker 9: and I was fortunate enough to get the job.
- 17:05Speaker 3: And and here we are.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Did Coach Hamilton ever just sing to you? Because he's
- 17:08Speaker 1: singing to us. He put us in a room, he
- 17:10Speaker 1: just let his I mean, he gave us to go
- 17:13Speaker 1: to three minutes. He ever do that when you're playing
- 17:14Speaker 1: with him?
- 17:15Speaker 9: Yeah, So I told him one of the first things
- 17:16Speaker 9: he needs to do in retirements get singing lessons because
- 17:19Speaker 9: he enjoyed singing and I don't know how many people
- 17:21Speaker 9: around him enjoy the singing. But he's such a kind heart.
- 17:24Speaker 9: His gospel music, he's always playing music. He's got a
- 17:27Speaker 9: great spirit about him. But yeah, he's gotta he's got
- 17:31Speaker 9: to work on the work on the chords a little bit.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Does that help you? And do you think that helps
- 17:35Speaker 1: the organization? That and I hate to use the word blessing,
- 17:40Speaker 1: but that there was a positive relationship and you played
- 17:43Speaker 1: for coach Hamilton and now you're succeeding coach Hamilton.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Yeah, without a doubt.
- 17:48Speaker 9: Coach Hamilton I talk almost every day since getting the job,
- 17:51Speaker 9: and he's been a huge supporter both just with my
- 17:56Speaker 9: mental stability.
- 17:57Speaker 3: I told this story the other day.
- 17:59Speaker 9: He called me a few days ago and he always
- 18:02Speaker 9: checks in, Hey, how's the recruiting going. Do you need
- 18:04Speaker 9: any help, do you need any relationships I can help
- 18:06Speaker 9: you with? How's your staff coming along? And so I
- 18:10Speaker 9: thought it was one of those calls and he said, Hey,
- 18:12Speaker 9: can you send me your wife's phone number? I think
- 18:14Speaker 9: I have it the same one. And I'm like, yeah,
- 18:17Speaker 9: why do you need Stevie's phone number? And he's like,
- 18:19Speaker 9: because I want my wife to call her and just
- 18:21Speaker 9: mentor her a little bit. And I'm worried about her
- 18:24Speaker 9: and the kids and the transit. So that's that's the
- 18:26Speaker 9: type of guy he is, right, He's he's as selfless
- 18:29Speaker 9: as they come.
- 18:29Speaker 3: He always cares about other people.
- 18:31Speaker 9: And it's been a huge blessing, like you said, not
- 18:35Speaker 9: only just just to be okay with my hire, but
- 18:38Speaker 9: also to support me in a lot of different ways
- 18:39Speaker 9: as a young head coach.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Portal just opened up. That's that's. I live in a
- 18:46Speaker 1: town called mounta Pine archis on They released the water
- 18:48Speaker 1: from the dam like once a year fully and it
- 18:50Speaker 1: was like, whoosh, I gotta imagine that's what day one,
- 18:54Speaker 1: Day two of the Portal's like.
- 18:55Speaker 9: Yeah, there's a lot of preparation and legwork leading up
- 18:59Speaker 9: to the portal. Right, you're having conversations with agents, with coaches,
- 19:03Speaker 9: with former coaches because you can't contact the kids until
- 19:07Speaker 9: they're officially in the portal, which opened yesterday at midnight.
- 19:11Speaker 9: So there's a lot of preparation leading up to it.
- 19:14Speaker 9: But then once this thing, like you said, it's like
- 19:16Speaker 9: a damn that you can't turn it off.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Right. I told this story to one of our coaches.
- 19:23Speaker 9: I woke up this morning in my right elbows on fire,
- 19:27Speaker 9: right just like, and I.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Couldn't fare what happened.
- 19:30Speaker 9: And then the first call I got, I went to
- 19:32Speaker 9: put the phone to my ear and I realized I'd
- 19:34Speaker 9: been on the phone for about fourteen hours a day before,
- 19:37Speaker 9: and so I had to go find my EarPods because
- 19:40Speaker 9: my elbows it feels it feels like a steak knife
- 19:43Speaker 9: center right now.
- 19:44Speaker 1: So I have what they would call tennis elbow. For
- 19:46Speaker 1: playing pickleball, you have portal elbow. We need to start
- 19:48Speaker 1: naming that. For coaches, you have portal elbow at this point,
- 19:52Speaker 1: So correct how many hours of the day? And I
- 19:55Speaker 1: appreciate you talking with the story because I know right
- 19:56Speaker 1: now it's a very intense time for everyone because of that.
- 20:00Speaker 1: How many hours of the day now are you talking
- 20:03Speaker 1: with a player, an agent, a parent about what next
- 20:07Speaker 1: season is going to look like?
- 20:08Speaker 9: Yeah, it's constant, and our staff are assistant coaches have
- 20:12Speaker 9: done a great job lining things up, but they're constantly
- 20:16Speaker 9: They'll walk in the room. I'll be on one call
- 20:18Speaker 9: as soon as I finished that. Hey, we got this
- 20:19Speaker 9: guy in the line. This is who it is. This
- 20:22Speaker 9: is why you need to talk to him. We watched
- 20:23Speaker 9: their film yesterday. You approved of the player, you think
- 20:26Speaker 9: you can fit of what we're trying to build in
- 20:28Speaker 9: our vision. You need to talk to him for ten minutes.
- 20:31Speaker 9: And then that's just a constant back and forth. And
- 20:34Speaker 9: in between, you know, you're back in your town where
- 20:37Speaker 9: you played in So there's a lot of relationships, a
- 20:39Speaker 9: lot of close relationships with people I care about that
- 20:41Speaker 9: want to stop by the office, and so you don't
- 20:43Speaker 9: want to be disrespectful. But at the same time, you've
- 20:46Speaker 9: got to build a team, you know, or you're going
- 20:47Speaker 9: to be kicking yourself for the next ten months that
- 20:50Speaker 9: we missed out in this guy, missed out on this guy.
- 20:52Speaker 9: So it's I'm going a thousand miles an hour right now.
- 20:56Speaker 9: I keep using the I'm just swimming in the deep end,
- 20:58Speaker 9: you know. And but I'm super grateful for the staff,
- 21:02Speaker 9: my assistant coaches. They're doing a phenomenal job and without them,
- 21:06Speaker 9: I couldn't get any of this done.
- 21:07Speaker 1: I want to ask a culture versus a short term
- 21:11Speaker 1: success question, and I'm hoping I'm asking in this in
- 21:13Speaker 1: a way that comes off as somewhat intelligent. Year one,
- 21:17Speaker 1: with you being the head coach of Florida State, obviously
- 21:20Speaker 1: you have a culture to build, but obviously college basketball
- 21:23Speaker 1: has changed where it's kind of like European basketball whe
- 21:25Speaker 1: everybodys on a one year contract for lack of a
- 21:27Speaker 1: better term. You have a culture you want to build,
- 21:30Speaker 1: but you also need really good players. Where is your
- 21:33Speaker 1: line right now of you need a certain type of player,
- 21:36Speaker 1: but you also need a player that's really good that
- 21:38Speaker 1: may not exactly be the culture you're looking for.
- 21:40Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm a big believer and culture drives success, right
- 21:45Speaker 9: the process of the way you do things brings the results.
- 21:48Speaker 9: And any coach considering to talk about culture, and any
- 21:51Speaker 9: coach considering to talk about I.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Want to win this many games.
- 21:54Speaker 9: But that is a daily commitment to a certain standard,
- 21:57Speaker 9: a certain set of values you have starting with me
- 22:01Speaker 9: and my staff and everyone in this building, and as
- 22:04Speaker 9: we build this team, those are the type of players
- 22:06Speaker 9: we need to bring in that we think can uphold
- 22:09Speaker 9: those standards in the locker room. So Bobby, of course,
- 22:12Speaker 9: there has to be a level of talent to win games.
- 22:15Speaker 9: But talent can only get you so far. You know,
- 22:17Speaker 9: it can only win you so many games. If the
- 22:19Speaker 9: locker room is disconnected, if there's not a commitment to
- 22:23Speaker 9: a championship culture, those championship results will never happen. So
- 22:27Speaker 9: I'm a big believer in surrounding myself on my staff
- 22:30Speaker 9: with the right people who are about the right things,
- 22:33Speaker 9: and then through that, through our evaluation, through our lens
- 22:36Speaker 9: gathering intel, you can tell really quickly if a kid
- 22:40Speaker 9: has that and fits that or he doesn't. So those
- 22:42Speaker 9: are the type of kids we're going after. Obviously there's
- 22:45Speaker 9: a baseline level of talent that you have to have.
- 22:48Speaker 9: But if there's a kid that's a little more talented
- 22:50Speaker 9: but doesn't quite fit with what we're doing, or a
- 22:53Speaker 9: kid that's a little less talented but he's a really
- 22:55Speaker 9: really good character, hard working, high IQ kid, we're probably
- 23:00Speaker 9: be going to go after the ladder.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna be candid with you here, and I well
- 23:05Speaker 1: appreciate any response you give to this. But I know
- 23:08Speaker 1: in the booster world, especially when it comes to in
- 23:11Speaker 1: io and collectives, and et cetera that we're all having
- 23:13Speaker 1: to learn and deal with. I am a I would say,
- 23:15Speaker 1: semi significant booster at the University of Arkansas. I'm not
- 23:19Speaker 1: John Tyson. I don't have six million dollars to pay
- 23:21Speaker 1: a coach. But there are times where, let me say
- 23:26Speaker 1: this in a way, I feel like I say it
- 23:27Speaker 1: that I there is money that I give to my school, right,
- 23:33Speaker 1: and so it's hey, can you help here?
- 23:36Speaker 3: Can we help?
- 23:36Speaker 5: There?
- 23:37Speaker 1: Are you having to create new relationships for that new
- 23:41Speaker 1: part of college basketball now, specifically when it comes to
- 23:45Speaker 1: making sure these players get in.
- 23:46Speaker 3: I owe money first, Bobby, I don't.
- 23:48Speaker 9: I don't know if I could sense a little bit
- 23:52Speaker 9: of hesitation in your voice. But if Arkansas is not
- 23:55Speaker 9: treating you right, you can always come over to Florida State.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Hey, I'm telling you basketball, I treating me a good football,
- 24:00Speaker 1: streaming me good basketball and treat me like crap. But
- 24:02Speaker 1: I hear you, Thank you, Gus.
- 24:04Speaker 9: If there's any level not satisfact just coming on the course, State,
- 24:07Speaker 9: You're welcome anytime.
- 24:08Speaker 3: But no, it's it's been. It's been. Uh, it's been good.
- 24:11Speaker 9: That there's a lot of built in relationships from my
- 24:13Speaker 9: playing days with donors, with boosters, with faculty, with administration.
- 24:18Speaker 9: Michael Alford Our ad has been incredible. Peter Collins, the
- 24:22Speaker 9: head of our board, has been incredible connecting me with
- 24:25Speaker 9: the people I need to talk to, and a lot
- 24:26Speaker 9: of these people at some level I already have relationships with,
- 24:30Speaker 9: so it's easy for me. It's not a transactional conversation
- 24:34Speaker 9: with a lot of these people because I know them
- 24:36Speaker 9: and they know me and they know what I'm about.
- 24:39Speaker 9: So it's it's I never want to be that guy
- 24:41Speaker 9: on the corner asking for money. You know, hey, hey,
- 24:43Speaker 9: we can't do this without you, because they're aware of it.
- 24:45Speaker 9: You know, with without donors, without boosters, without the fans
- 24:51Speaker 9: having equity in what we're building, we don't have a team.
- 24:54Speaker 9: And so everyone's aware of it. Everyone's been super supportive.
- 24:58Speaker 9: We're trying to do this the right way, but we're
- 25:00Speaker 9: also trying to give back. Right there's this perception in
- 25:04Speaker 9: collegiate athletics right now that it's just we need more,
- 25:07Speaker 9: we need more, we need more, And it's like, okay, well,
- 25:09Speaker 9: what can we give you?
- 25:10Speaker 3: Right?
- 25:11Speaker 9: How can we build this relationship so it makes sense
- 25:13Speaker 9: for you, so you feel like you have equity in
- 25:15Speaker 9: what we're building.
- 25:16Speaker 1: And you're playing time at Florida State and then you're coaching,
- 25:20Speaker 1: or even you're playing time overseas and you're playing in
- 25:23Speaker 1: professional basketball. Offensively, what are you doing at Florida State
- 25:29Speaker 1: that you have taking from taken from all those different
- 25:32Speaker 1: elements or are you still running basically the same thing
- 25:34Speaker 1: that you ran as the point guard at Florida State
- 25:37Speaker 1: back in the day.
- 25:37Speaker 9: No, it's going to be much different. And that's no
- 25:41Speaker 9: disrespect to coach Hamilton or his staff. I've just been
- 25:45Speaker 9: trained as a coach in the in the NBA ranks,
- 25:48Speaker 9: and it's a different style. We're heavy on the analytics
- 25:51Speaker 9: game and using data to drive what we're doing and
- 25:55Speaker 9: support what we're doing. At the NBA level, obviously you
- 25:58Speaker 9: have much more resources, right There's there's literal scientists on
- 26:01Speaker 9: your staff that we just don't have in college. But
- 26:04Speaker 9: there is a baseline level of belief in terms of efficiency,
- 26:08Speaker 9: in terms of what my basketball philosophy and way I
- 26:10Speaker 9: want to teach it. So the way I tell recruits
- 26:14Speaker 9: and their parents and their agents, it's going to be
- 26:16Speaker 9: a mesh of an NBA style, but in the college game.
- 26:20Speaker 9: So it's going to be a little bit faster and
- 26:21Speaker 9: a little bit more pace, a little bit more space,
- 26:24Speaker 9: less posting up, more three pointers, more offensive rebounds, and
- 26:28Speaker 9: those things generally lead to more efficient way to play.
- 26:31Speaker 9: And then within our evaluation, what type of kid can
- 26:35Speaker 9: support that?
- 26:36Speaker 3: Right?
- 26:36Speaker 9: We want to help these kids get to professional sports, right,
- 26:39Speaker 9: and I know what it takes to get there, and
- 26:41Speaker 9: I know it takes a stick because that's my foundation
- 26:43Speaker 9: of coaching. So how can I put these kids in
- 26:46Speaker 9: the best position possible So when scouts come watch us play,
- 26:50Speaker 9: they can see it, right, they can see, oh, this
- 26:52Speaker 9: kid could actually work in our system.
- 26:54Speaker 3: That is usually not the case in college.
- 26:56Speaker 9: Usually we get these kids in the NBA and the
- 26:59Speaker 9: draft profs and in the first week of training camp
- 27:01Speaker 9: and they have no idea how to play.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Right.
- 27:03Speaker 9: It's like you're rewiring the player and now you can't
- 27:08Speaker 9: play a total NBA system in college.
- 27:11Speaker 3: There's a few nuances that you got to tweak.
- 27:13Speaker 9: But for the most part, and like in the SEC,
- 27:16Speaker 9: you guys playing, Alabama's doing a great job.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Natos has done a great job. He's brought in an
- 27:20Speaker 3: NBA staff.
- 27:21Speaker 9: He plays a modern style of basketball with his pace
- 27:24Speaker 9: and the way they play and the way they move
- 27:26Speaker 9: the ball and the way they cut. And there's other
- 27:28Speaker 9: schools that are trying to do it with their hires,
- 27:30Speaker 9: but not many colleges have not only the ability to
- 27:34Speaker 9: do it, but just a basic understanding of Okay, this
- 27:37Speaker 9: is where these kids are going. Maybe we should help
- 27:40Speaker 9: with our system to get them there.
- 27:42Speaker 1: You mentioned natos and natos. I think about just looking
- 27:46Speaker 1: at the shot chart and it's all underneath the goal
- 27:48Speaker 1: or it's all three pointers, right, and so not a
- 27:49Speaker 1: lot of mid range When I think of Alabama great athletes,
- 27:52Speaker 1: not a lot of mid range. And if I'm going
- 27:54Speaker 1: to be extremely technical and ask the question that I
- 27:57Speaker 1: want to know from you, as there's a lot more
- 28:00Speaker 1: handing off and the ball holder also screening, but it
- 28:05Speaker 1: brings an extra defensive player to the player holding the ball.
- 28:09Speaker 1: What are your thought because it seems like that's more
- 28:10Speaker 1: than ever you have. You have guys handing the ball
- 28:14Speaker 1: off as a pass, but again you're bringing an extra
- 28:16Speaker 1: defensive player to the player holding the ball. You do it?
- 28:19Speaker 1: Your thoughts on that philosophy? Where do you fall on that?
- 28:22Speaker 9: Yeah, some of it's personnel driven, some of it depends
- 28:25Speaker 9: on you know who's on your team and what style.
- 28:29Speaker 9: I've seen more heavy pick and roll teams be really successful.
- 28:34Speaker 9: In Sacramento with the Kings, we had a guy named
- 28:36Speaker 9: Demonta Sabonis, and obviously we surrounded him Darren Fox from
- 28:41Speaker 9: Leak Monk, all these guys that could shoot, pass, and dribble,
- 28:44Speaker 9: which is what I'm going to try to do here.
- 28:45Speaker 9: But Sibonis was very good with the ball as a center,
- 28:48Speaker 9: so we I think several years in a row we
- 28:51Speaker 9: led with dribble handoffs and handoff actions, and we were
- 28:54Speaker 9: very low in our pick and roll actions just because
- 28:57Speaker 9: the ball naturally found Sibonis so often.
- 29:00Speaker 3: That is something to an extent I'll bring to Florida State.
- 29:05Speaker 9: Most coaches spend a lot of time in their defensive
- 29:08Speaker 9: preparation on guardian pick and rolls because it happens so often.
- 29:12Speaker 9: It's a little bit trickier guardian dribble handoffs because usually
- 29:16Speaker 9: you know, if you think about a big or even
- 29:18Speaker 9: a guard guard guard handoff, if you mess up that coverage,
- 29:22Speaker 9: the guy dribbling the ball can just keep it in go,
- 29:24Speaker 9: and that's not the case in the pick and roll,
- 29:26Speaker 9: so the guy with the ball is live you know,
- 29:29Speaker 9: and it's just a little more complicated to guard that
- 29:32Speaker 9: what I do believe, and some again, some college are
- 29:35Speaker 9: doing a lot of NBA teams are doing it the.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Ball and body movement.
- 29:39Speaker 9: So there has to be a constant movement, a constant
- 29:41Speaker 9: flow of cutting towards the rim in an aggressive manner
- 29:45Speaker 9: to collapse the defense to put a threat on the rim,
- 29:47Speaker 9: and then respacing out the backside.
- 29:49Speaker 3: So think about defensive structure.
- 29:51Speaker 9: I know I'm getting a little technical and nerdy here.
- 29:55Speaker 9: You got to protect the paint, which means helps got
- 29:57Speaker 9: to come, which means at one point you have two
- 30:00Speaker 9: guys on you, and then as as the guy with
- 30:02Speaker 9: the ball, you just got to make the right play
- 30:04Speaker 9: over and over again.
- 30:04Speaker 3: Sometimes the right play is for you to score.
- 30:07Speaker 9: Most of the time it has helped comes the right
- 30:09Speaker 9: plays to find the open guy and create another advantage
- 30:11Speaker 9: on the backside.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I've got like five more minutes with you. I have
- 30:16Speaker 1: a play suggestion. I was like, maybe you tried out
- 30:18Speaker 1: early on. I just don't know why it doesn't happen
- 30:21Speaker 1: and I've only ever had happen to me during pickout
- 30:23Speaker 1: because I suck. But it works. It's called the three
- 30:27Speaker 1: point airball alley oop. Now follow me here, coach, imagine this,
- 30:32Speaker 1: because I'm the one shooting, I'm the one shooting three pointer.
- 30:34Speaker 1: That's the airball. But if everything looks like a three
- 30:39Speaker 1: point shot with one of your best shooters, one of
- 30:41Speaker 1: your higher percentage shooters, he purposefully is shooting an air
- 30:45Speaker 1: ball to where your other the back cut knows it's
- 30:50Speaker 1: an airball, jumps up times it. Everyone else takes this
- 30:54Speaker 1: three pointer. He there's an alley oop.
- 30:55Speaker 5: They're just sitting there. Why don't people run?
- 30:57Speaker 6: The three ball?
- 30:58Speaker 1: Air ball alley oop is the greatest play ever.
- 31:02Speaker 9: Bobby, I'm gonna have to think about that a little more. Yeah,
- 31:05Speaker 9: exactly could that could be a potential for a first play?
- 31:08Speaker 9: You know what I was when I was coaching in
- 31:09Speaker 9: Golden State. You know we had all these shooters Steph Curry,
- 31:12Speaker 9: Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, and the list goes on. But
- 31:15Speaker 9: we used to talk about this reminds me. We used
- 31:17Speaker 9: to talk about the Flying V right, the Flying Ducks
- 31:20Speaker 9: from the Mighty Ducks, and we said, what if you
- 31:23Speaker 9: just put four guys in front of Steph right and
- 31:26Speaker 9: a flying V and you just worked your way down
- 31:29Speaker 9: the court and a flying V until Steph got close
- 31:32Speaker 9: enough to the three point line where he could shoot it.
- 31:33Speaker 3: How would you guard it right?
- 31:35Speaker 9: And so this, Bobby, you could be I still got
- 31:38Speaker 9: a spot on my coaching staff open.
- 31:39Speaker 3: You could be an assistant coach for me.
- 31:41Speaker 1: You can't afford me. I'll be honest with you at
- 31:42Speaker 1: this point. You can't afford me. But but I'm just saying,
- 31:45Speaker 1: if you have one of your one of your shooters,
- 31:47Speaker 1: everything looks the same and he purposefully is shooting an
- 31:50Speaker 1: air ball to the point where one of your big
- 31:53Speaker 1: guys knows it's an airball coming. Time's it right, because
- 31:56Speaker 1: that's all a rebound is, is timing it right and
- 31:58Speaker 1: dunks it when you use it. Coach, I just want
- 32:01Speaker 1: you to text me and be like I used your play.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Was it could be in like, no, not even acc game.
- 32:05Speaker 1: It could be like you're playing the high school. Yeah,
- 32:08Speaker 1: Tallahassee High. You let me know because I think that's
- 32:11Speaker 1: the pointy, Okay, come on. Two final questions for you, coach.
- 32:14Speaker 1: The first time you put on that logo again, was
- 32:17Speaker 1: that a moment for you? Was it like a like
- 32:20Speaker 1: a ceremonial thing, Like I'm the coach. Now, let me
- 32:21Speaker 1: put this on.
- 32:22Speaker 9: Yeah, there was a lot of emotions over the past
- 32:24Speaker 9: few weeks. My wife was an athlete here too, she
- 32:27Speaker 9: was a swimmer. So everywhere we've gone, both as a
- 32:30Speaker 9: player and as a coach, we brought Floria State with us.
- 32:34Speaker 9: You know, our kids. My son last night facetimed me
- 32:37Speaker 9: in his Florida State pajamas, which he's.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Had far before I got the job.
- 32:42Speaker 9: So really, the most emotional moment probably with this whole
- 32:46Speaker 9: process wasn't the press conference, wasn't addressing the team. It
- 32:50Speaker 9: was when we got off the plane in Tallahassee and
- 32:53Speaker 9: Michael Alford, had our athletic director, was with us and
- 32:57Speaker 9: our family, my wife, my three children. We got the
- 33:00Speaker 9: plane and at the at the private airport, I don't
- 33:03Speaker 9: know how many people, probably seventy five to one hundred people.
- 33:06Speaker 9: The band was there, the cheerleaders were there, you know,
- 33:08Speaker 9: all fans, some boosters that I know, and it was
- 33:12Speaker 9: it was emotional. I don't I don't cry much, but
- 33:15Speaker 9: I was very close and my wife's just you know,
- 33:17Speaker 9: full emotion.
- 33:18Speaker 3: My kids are looking around like where are we right now?
- 33:22Speaker 9: You know, like we're trying to explain on what Tallhassie
- 33:24Speaker 9: was and they're walking into this like, you know, incredible
- 33:27Speaker 9: moment with the band plane And that was when it
- 33:31Speaker 9: really hit me.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Is is pretty awesome.
- 33:33Speaker 9: You know, I get to come back home and and
- 33:35Speaker 9: and put this logo back on it. It means a
- 33:37Speaker 9: little more than a normal coaching job, you know, you
- 33:40Speaker 9: just have a little more invested in the situation. So yeah,
- 33:44Speaker 9: it's been It's been great so far, man, Bobby. I'm
- 33:46Speaker 9: super excited to be back.
- 33:48Speaker 1: One comment, final question. There's a gas station New York campus.
- 33:51Speaker 1: I'm obsessed with it because you put all the stuff on,
- 33:53Speaker 1: like the desk on the end, and it just wrings
- 33:56Speaker 1: it up automatically. You've been do you know that gas station?
- 33:58Speaker 1: It's right there by campus. Then I get a candy
- 34:00Speaker 1: bar up a little water there and it goes He's
- 34:01Speaker 1: like as a seven eleven whatever was like fort dollars
- 34:03Speaker 1: twenty nine cents. Nobody even said a word to me,
- 34:05Speaker 1: and I was like, what the crap just happened in
- 34:07Speaker 1: Tallahad So a big shout out at the gas station
- 34:09Speaker 1: near campus. You're gonna see a coach. You've been gone
- 34:11Speaker 1: long time, You're about to be reintegrated and then.
- 34:14Speaker 3: I haven't seen that.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Yeah, you trust me that in the three point play
- 34:18Speaker 1: is the two things you're going to remember me before
- 34:20Speaker 1: the final thing is we did an ideal here. We're
- 34:23Speaker 1: talking about if we take one skill from any person
- 34:25Speaker 1: and we just had it automatically and didn't have to
- 34:27Speaker 1: be sports. But I picked Steph Curry's ability to shoot.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Can you just tell me what he was like to
- 34:32Speaker 1: be around and watch him do what he does?
- 34:34Speaker 9: Yes, Steph, there's a reason they won all those championships
- 34:37Speaker 9: and a lot of people talk about his skill, which
- 34:40Speaker 9: we can discuss here in a second, but truthfully, as
- 34:43Speaker 9: a person, as a human, he is one of the
- 34:45Speaker 9: best people, the superstar and not one of the best
- 34:48Speaker 9: people that I've ever been around. You know, he knows
- 34:52Speaker 9: and he shouldn't. He knows my kids' names. He's been
- 34:54Speaker 9: over to my house to like have card game, you
- 34:56Speaker 9: know what I mean? Like that, He's just he's a
- 34:58Speaker 9: good dude.
- 34:59Speaker 3: He asked. He asked about Stevie.
- 35:00Speaker 9: Every time I see him, he genuinely cares about people.
- 35:04Speaker 9: And that's what makes him so special as a leader
- 35:07Speaker 9: of that organization is he invests in his teammates he
- 35:11Speaker 9: invests in the staff, he invests in in the ownership
- 35:14Speaker 9: and the community. And when you have someone as talented
- 35:17Speaker 9: as Steph, to me, maybe the most skilled player in
- 35:20Speaker 9: the history of basketball in terms of his shooting.
- 35:23Speaker 3: Ability, his ability to score, his ability to dribble, pass,
- 35:26Speaker 3: all of it.
- 35:27Speaker 9: And then you add that to his character and the
- 35:30Speaker 9: way he represents himself in the organization on a day
- 35:34Speaker 9: to day basis. Like I said, there's a reason they've
- 35:37Speaker 9: been as successful. And there's a lot of people around him,
- 35:39Speaker 9: the Draymonds, aclays, Steve Kerr of course what he's built,
- 35:42Speaker 9: but Steph is the engine that makes the car go,
- 35:46Speaker 9: and he is truly It was incredible for me as
- 35:49Speaker 9: a young coach to not only coach him, but to
- 35:51Speaker 9: learn from him.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Shooting. He just shoot all day? Is that what he does?
- 35:54Speaker 1: He just shoots all day.
- 35:56Speaker 9: You know, he's pretty structured in his workouts. He's got
- 35:59Speaker 9: a great routine. He doesn't he shoots a lot. Now,
- 36:02Speaker 9: he shoots a lot, but he makes so much. It's
- 36:05Speaker 9: kind of a thing. Once he gets in a rhythm
- 36:07Speaker 9: and he feels really good, he'll just he'll cut it.
- 36:10Speaker 9: But sometimes that takes a little bit longer. To get
- 36:12Speaker 9: to Usually it's you know, fifteen twenty thirty minutes. They
- 36:15Speaker 9: play so many games at that level. When you're playing
- 36:18Speaker 9: three four games at night, you can't spend hours and
- 36:21Speaker 9: hours and hours shooting like he did when he was younger,
- 36:25Speaker 9: just with how many miles he's had on his body.
- 36:27Speaker 9: But his routine, he might be no. No, he definitely
- 36:32Speaker 9: is the most consistent, hardest worker I've ever been around.
- 36:36Speaker 3: But he also works smart.
- 36:37Speaker 9: You know, he's not just going to be in the
- 36:39Speaker 9: gym for four hours wasting his time. It's a game
- 36:42Speaker 9: like preparation and focus and intensity to his workouts that's
- 36:46Speaker 9: truly impressive.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Well, it's like me in this interview, I'm in rhythm.
- 36:49Speaker 1: I'm quitting because I'm like feeling it. I'm like, why
- 36:51Speaker 1: keep on right now? I got it all day. This
- 36:53Speaker 1: is awesome. Hey, congrats, it's super coold. Love to see
- 36:56Speaker 1: people go home and do their thing. We're rooting for you.
- 36:58Speaker 1: I'm rooting for said anyway. I've got a lot of
- 37:00Speaker 1: great relationships over there. We want to come when you
- 37:03Speaker 1: got to start next season. We definitely want to come
- 37:06Speaker 1: and check out a game and mostly just get free gear,
- 37:08Speaker 1: but still we want to be there, so coach, congratulations.
- 37:12Speaker 1: It's a hectic time right now, but we're looking forward
- 37:14Speaker 1: to next season and I hope you have a great
- 37:16Speaker 1: rest of the week.

- 38:39Speaker 1: We spend a lot of time talking about read already,
- 38:41Speaker 1: let's do a little bit more. We're doing this part
- 38:43Speaker 1: of the show from Los Angeles. I filled in for
- 38:45Speaker 1: rich Eisen this morning and the Tuesday morning, So depending
- 38:49Speaker 1: on when you hear this, but as soon as we
- 38:51Speaker 1: land in Los Angeles, and it is a long flight,
- 38:53Speaker 1: and I mean it's just about the longest flight you
- 38:56Speaker 1: take from where we are, we land and we're staying
- 39:00Speaker 1: at an airport hotel. I mean it is right next
- 39:05Speaker 1: to the airport.
- 39:06Speaker 5: But you can't hear airplanes, which is kind of cool.
- 39:09Speaker 1: That's a good point. I expect you're right all night.
- 39:12Speaker 1: But I've never stayed as close to an airport in
- 39:15Speaker 1: a hotel unless I was being forced to lay over
- 39:18Speaker 1: in a city and they gave me a free voucher, Like,
- 39:21Speaker 1: this is the closest I've ever stayed to an airport.
- 39:24Speaker 1: And so we get here and we type in hyat
- 39:27Speaker 1: because that's where we're staying.
- 39:30Speaker 5: Yeah, there's like eight hyatts. We didn't know.
- 39:31Speaker 1: So we go to the wrong one and we're already
- 39:34Speaker 1: tired long flight, and we have all oli our bags.
- 39:38Speaker 1: We're ubering and we're like, we're here to check in.
- 39:40Speaker 1: They're like, oh, you're at the wrong one, and we're
- 39:44Speaker 1: like great, and then Red goes, I lost my phone
- 39:47Speaker 1: in the uber.
- 39:48Speaker 6: It's about to happen, man, I fell, it slipped right
- 39:52Speaker 6: out of my buck and he goes, and I had
- 39:53Speaker 6: all my phone catching pants too. Do I only buy
- 39:57Speaker 6: pants with zippers if they're not jeans, but like any
- 39:59Speaker 6: kind of like joggers, they have to have zippers, like
- 40:01Speaker 6: pocket zippers.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, So not only am I having to find
- 40:04Speaker 1: a different hotel that we're in, now I got to
- 40:07Speaker 1: track down and reads Uber drivers.
- 40:08Speaker 5: And all this on your phone, one phone for all
- 40:11Speaker 5: of this. We have all of our bags, and I
- 40:14Speaker 5: would have helped you, but you had the Uber app,
- 40:16Speaker 5: like you had to do it.
- 40:17Speaker 1: I had to find the new place and find his phone.
- 40:20Speaker 1: I didn't have a phone.
- 40:20Speaker 6: I couldn't help you know.
- 40:21Speaker 1: That's the point. And not only that, what made it
- 40:25Speaker 1: even more difficult is our driver was Chinese and her
- 40:30Speaker 1: English very limited.
- 40:33Speaker 5: So you actually talked to her on the phone, right.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Yes, And she was just trying to because I pushed
- 40:38Speaker 1: the button that said lost an item, please call us,
- 40:42Speaker 1: and then she calls me. And a lot of times
- 40:45Speaker 1: when you're an uber, you don't have to talk to
- 40:47Speaker 1: the person much. You can or you don't have to.
- 40:51Speaker 1: I would think, when the language isn't the same, even
- 40:54Speaker 1: if I'm in another country, you just don't talk much
- 40:56Speaker 1: because you'll have.
- 40:58Speaker 5: To and no need. You're good, you can't.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Yeah, well, well now we had to. And we weren't
- 41:03Speaker 1: even looking at each other. And she was trying to
- 41:05Speaker 1: read her number back so we could save her number
- 41:07Speaker 1: to text her. She couldn't understand me, I could understand her.
- 41:11Speaker 1: We're yelling at each other, thinking that the yelling helps.
- 41:15Speaker 5: I heard you at one point say and these weren't
- 41:17Speaker 5: the numbers, but you're like okay, you're like, any write
- 41:20Speaker 5: this down seven four nine six, and you're like, you
- 41:26Speaker 5: only gave me four numbers, what's the rest.
- 41:30Speaker 1: So we're trying to drag down Read's phone. We end
- 41:32Speaker 1: up having to leave Reid's phone and say leave it
- 41:35Speaker 1: at the front desk, and we hope that happens. And
- 41:38Speaker 1: then we're like, Read's going to give you a big tip.
- 41:40Speaker 6: Oh god.
- 41:41Speaker 1: And so he did get his phone back, miraculous.
- 41:45Speaker 10: I did.
- 41:45Speaker 6: It felt good to not have a phone for a
- 41:46Speaker 6: little bit, to be honest. I was also kind of
- 41:48Speaker 6: expecting to have like some sort of like text when
- 41:51Speaker 6: I got back, and I just I guess nobody wants
- 41:53Speaker 6: to talk.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Oh that's the worst when you lose your phone for
- 41:56Speaker 1: a long time.
- 41:56Speaker 5: But it was a long time.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Wow, Like, man, I'm gonna have to get any real
- 42:00Speaker 1: respond to a lot of these messages and you have nothing.
- 42:02Speaker 6: I know, like, okay, well that's anti climbactic.
- 42:05Speaker 1: We did get it. I went to bed at about
- 42:07Speaker 1: six pm because it's eight pm our time. My wife
- 42:10Speaker 1: called me though it was like tornadoes. Yeah, and so
- 42:12Speaker 1: I'm on the phone with her. We're both watching different
- 42:15Speaker 1: news feeds and YouTube videos, and she's got the dogs
- 42:19Speaker 1: and I'm here kind of feeling guilty, and so finally
- 42:22Speaker 1: fall back asleep again. But we wake up to go
- 42:24Speaker 1: over to Eisen show this morning and read's like I
- 42:29Speaker 1: had a crying baby all night.
- 42:31Speaker 3: I guess, screaming baby.
- 42:32Speaker 5: You're having a bad trip, mat you, Hey, if you'd.
- 42:34Speaker 6: Be quiet my here right now.
- 42:36Speaker 1: But I wouldn't think most people stay in this hotel
- 42:37Speaker 1: more than one night.
- 42:38Speaker 5: I wouldn't think so mine by the airport.
- 42:40Speaker 1: Yeah. My theory is you only stay here if you're
- 42:42Speaker 1: staying here at night, unless you're us. My room still
- 42:45Speaker 1: hasn't been cleaned, and it's like four pm.
- 42:47Speaker 5: Yeah, and they're still working though I saw them in
- 42:49Speaker 5: the hallways.
- 42:50Speaker 1: But my point is if people aren't in it for
- 42:52Speaker 1: multiple nights, it doesn't matter, so they probably don't rush
- 42:55Speaker 1: to clean it earlier. Because the people aren't staying two
- 42:57Speaker 1: nights in the rooms that do get cleaned earlier, those
- 43:00Speaker 1: people in first through, So why would they be in
- 43:04Speaker 1: a rush to clean the rooms if it's not a capacity.
- 43:06Speaker 11: But screaming baby absolutely horrific. That's their door right there.
- 43:10Speaker 6: I know you can't. I mean, if you're listening, you
- 43:11Speaker 6: don't know what I'm talking about.
- 43:12Speaker 1: But it wasn't even the one next to the bed.
- 43:14Speaker 1: It's across the room.
- 43:15Speaker 6: It's like we share a room.
- 43:17Speaker 1: Did you bang?
- 43:18Speaker 5: No?
- 43:19Speaker 6: I didn't. I kind of felt bad because, I mean,
- 43:22Speaker 6: that baby was screaming for like three hours straight and
- 43:25Speaker 6: then it stopped for like an hour, and then I
- 43:26Speaker 6: woke up at four and it was screaming again. And
- 43:29Speaker 6: you could you could hear like Blippy or some sort
- 43:32Speaker 6: of like kids TV show just blaring in their room
- 43:34Speaker 6: that they're trying to get the kid to be quiet.
- 43:36Speaker 5: Yeah, that doesn't work.
- 43:36Speaker 6: They also didn't speak English, so they were like yelling
- 43:38Speaker 6: words at the baby in a foreign language.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Because you could have helped maybe if you knew what
- 43:43Speaker 1: they were saying or what maybe what is it? What's
- 43:45Speaker 1: the context of that one.
- 43:46Speaker 6: I was also kind of worried that, you know, they
- 43:48Speaker 6: were gonna harm the baby or something. You know.
- 43:50Speaker 5: How so it must have been loud for you to
- 43:51Speaker 5: be on the other side of the room in your
- 43:53Speaker 5: bed and you you're able to like pick up all this.
- 43:55Speaker 6: I honestly I thought it was in the hallway, and
- 43:57Speaker 6: I thought like people were making a commotion, like about
- 44:00Speaker 6: to fight outside. It was so loud and it was
- 44:03Speaker 6: so frantic.
- 44:04Speaker 1: It sucks for the parents though, right, because they don't
- 44:06Speaker 1: want the baby to grow sex with the baby.
- 44:07Speaker 5: Of course, secks for Reid. Well, it's funny you say, like,
- 44:09Speaker 5: did you knock on the door, Like what are you
- 44:10Speaker 5: gonna do? Like, there's really nothing you can do in
- 44:13Speaker 5: this scenario.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Put in air pods. I did.
- 44:15Speaker 6: I put in air pods for about an hour and
- 44:18Speaker 6: then got freaked out because I was so isolated. I
- 44:21Speaker 6: thought I was.
- 44:21Speaker 11: Gonna miss my alarm, so I took them out.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Huh, like with my AirPods. I sleep with air pods
- 44:27Speaker 1: in sometimes.
- 44:28Speaker 6: And you can still hear your alarm.
- 44:30Speaker 1: They always say us fall out?
- 44:31Speaker 5: Does the alarm? Does the alarm go off? In the
- 44:33Speaker 5: air pods?
- 44:34Speaker 1: Great question, because I put well, I put one in.
- 44:38Speaker 1: I sleep with one in sometimes. My wife has no
- 44:41Speaker 1: problem with me playing a podcast under my pillow out
- 44:45Speaker 1: loud doesn't bother with the phone out no pods, Yeah,
- 44:48Speaker 1: it doesn't bother her because I used to be let's
- 44:50Speaker 1: watch TV until I fall asleep and leave it on
- 44:52Speaker 1: all night.
- 44:52Speaker 5: So it's a wind.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a big win compared to that, so she
- 44:56Speaker 1: doesn't really mind it at all. But sometimes if she's
- 44:59Speaker 1: already a slop, I don't want to come in and
- 45:01Speaker 1: like turn it eye because I think it'll wake her
- 45:02Speaker 1: up as opposed to her falling asleep with it on.
- 45:07Speaker 1: And so I'll sleep with one AirPod in on my
- 45:09Speaker 1: left side because I sleep on my right side for
- 45:11Speaker 1: the most part until I go to my back. But
- 45:13Speaker 1: it always falls out the middle of the night, so
- 45:15Speaker 1: then my alarm will go off. But to be fair,
- 45:18Speaker 1: my alarm never wakes me up maybe once a month,
- 45:21Speaker 1: because I wake up two hours before my alarm, like
- 45:23Speaker 1: nervous that I'm going to oversleep every single day in
- 45:25Speaker 1: my life.
- 45:25Speaker 6: See, Eddie was saying too that like because of the
- 45:27Speaker 6: time zone here, he wouldn't even worried about his alarm
- 45:30Speaker 6: In California.
- 45:31Speaker 5: I wake up like at you know, regard no alarm.
- 45:34Speaker 5: I'll wake up eyes open six am.
- 45:36Speaker 1: That's a good point because we're two hours back and
- 45:38Speaker 1: it's such a quick trip. Yeah, so it's not been
- 45:42Speaker 1: the easiest trip for Reid. He did say though, that
- 45:44Speaker 1: he saw the Kobe Bryant statue today we went. Yeah,
- 45:47Speaker 1: it was cool, really cool.
- 45:49Speaker 5: It's really cool. Man, Like that's pretty new, right, Like
- 45:51Speaker 5: I don't know when they threw that one up a
- 45:53Speaker 5: couple of years ago.
- 45:54Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, it's definitely newer than the rest.
- 45:56Speaker 5: So it's pretty cool. And then there's a Shack one
- 45:59Speaker 5: that's really cool too.
- 46:00Speaker 1: He's dunking like he double arm, double hand.
- 46:03Speaker 5: Double hand, he's got wings, he's got to sticking out.
- 46:06Speaker 5: And that one's like further back closer to like just
- 46:09Speaker 5: the it's over like the entrance just.
- 46:11Speaker 11: Was connected to the building.
- 46:12Speaker 5: H's connected to the building, which is really cool. That
- 46:14Speaker 5: one's cool. And the Jerry West Magic Johnson, which is
- 46:17Speaker 5: funny to see Reid out there because he's just like,
- 46:19Speaker 5: who's that? That's cream? Abdul Jabbar read.
- 46:22Speaker 6: I didn't you could. Some of those people you can't
- 46:25Speaker 6: really tell.
- 46:26Speaker 1: You know, you could tell because of the statue, but
- 46:28Speaker 1: you're not a big sports guy.
- 46:29Speaker 6: Yeah, no, I wouldn't know.
- 46:30Speaker 5: And then he goes to the hockey player, who's that?
- 46:32Speaker 1: I knew it was Retzki.
- 46:34Speaker 5: Yeah, we had a little lesson while we were out there.
- 46:36Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 46:37Speaker 11: I was like your little your little child taking out there.
- 46:39Speaker 5: And Jerry Jerry West though he knew he's like a
- 46:41Speaker 5: logo man.
- 46:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't know that was the statue of him
- 46:45Speaker 1: doing the logo pose kind of. I mean, it's not
- 46:47Speaker 1: really a pose, but.
- 46:48Speaker 5: That kind of I don't know if it is the
- 46:50Speaker 5: exact same one, but it's it's just his you know,
- 46:52Speaker 5: his iconic move of he's like just going for charging
- 46:56Speaker 5: for a layup or something like whatever that logo thing is.
- 46:59Speaker 1: If I did look to see the Dodgers do play
- 47:02Speaker 1: tonight the Lakers. The Lakers play tonight too, man, I
- 47:06Speaker 1: don't know if I can do it. It's so late.
- 47:08Speaker 5: It Oh what time do they play? I'm here, that's
- 47:11Speaker 5: like seven.
- 47:12Speaker 1: Right, yeah, but by the time you get back, it's
- 47:14Speaker 1: ten or eleven, which is like one o'clock our time.
- 47:16Speaker 1: And then I got to get back. Now, you and
- 47:18Speaker 1: you guys do whatever.
- 47:19Speaker 5: I told as I looked up tickets and like, back
- 47:22Speaker 5: up against the wall, the very last row in the arena,
- 47:25Speaker 5: it's like one hundred and fifty bucks.
- 47:26Speaker 1: I don't know who's been paying for ubers or food
- 47:28Speaker 1: when I'm not around. So I said, both of you guys,
- 47:29Speaker 1: one hundred bucks. You did it, Yeah, to your venmos
- 47:31Speaker 1: so you can always go. Thank you man, if you
- 47:33Speaker 1: want to get no, we use that. I'm just saying
- 47:35Speaker 1: you could use that, because I don't know who's been paying.
- 47:37Speaker 5: The Dodgers are playing to night too, you said.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and that apparently is a nightmare to get out of. Jeez,
- 47:42Speaker 1: la Is. It's hard for me because I get car
- 47:47Speaker 1: sick and I hate traffic. I'm not from here. I
- 47:50Speaker 1: don't like it, so anytime that it's a difficult car situation,
- 47:55Speaker 1: I don't like it. So I choose tonight go Sunday ight.
- 47:59Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind it. I think we could have gone
- 48:00Speaker 1: to a game Sunday night. Yeah, but if you guys
- 48:02Speaker 1: want to go go, I'll just go to dinner with
- 48:03Speaker 1: our buddy myself.
- 48:05Speaker 5: Honestly, this whole trip has been like read what do
- 48:08Speaker 5: you want to do? Because reed like Red say he's
- 48:10Speaker 5: only been to la once, you know, like we've been
- 48:12Speaker 5: here a lot, and like like, I want to go
- 48:15Speaker 5: to Venice.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Beach, so we Yeah, you guys went to a muscle beach, right.
- 48:18Speaker 5: That's yool, dude.
- 48:21Speaker 11: It's like it's like a movie set out there, people rollerblading.
- 48:24Speaker 5: This whole town is a movie set.
- 48:27Speaker 1: You and in this town. There are lots of movie sets.
- 48:30Speaker 5: Yeah, that's very true. What's funny is Reid, I guess
- 48:32Speaker 5: since he was a little boy, he said he's wanted
- 48:34Speaker 5: to go to Venice Beach to see the skate park.
- 48:36Speaker 5: Like there's because at Venice Beach it's got the beach,
- 48:38Speaker 5: of course, but then you have the muscle part where
- 48:41Speaker 5: it's like just a big open workout area and then
- 48:44Speaker 5: there are roller skaters. There are skateboarders in there. There's
- 48:46Speaker 5: like just a bowl, like big swimming pool like bowls everywhere,
- 48:51Speaker 5: so skaters are doing tricks, and Read's like, I've always
- 48:54Speaker 5: wanted to come here, And he spent about thirty minutes
- 48:57Speaker 5: trying to find someone to ask if he can borrow
- 48:59Speaker 5: their boards so that he can drop in.
- 49:01Speaker 6: I didn't do it, though I would have dropped in,
- 49:04Speaker 6: no doubt, I would have dropped in.
- 49:06Speaker 5: He was on a mission.
- 49:07Speaker 1: Why did you go buy a board, a cheap board.
- 49:11Speaker 6: That's a good question.
- 49:11Speaker 5: I told you that I could have.
- 49:13Speaker 1: That'd have been a place that it'd be worth it
- 49:16Speaker 1: to do it, and you could have taken it back
- 49:18Speaker 1: easily tomorrow, returned the board, No, taking the board back?
- 49:24Speaker 6: Return it?
- 49:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, Yeah, that's about that because it's not like
- 49:26Speaker 1: you have to check it or anything. Yeah, crap, sorry,
- 49:30Speaker 1: buddy man.
- 49:31Speaker 6: I mean that's that skate park is like iconic. If
- 49:33Speaker 6: you like grew up skating, you knew that skate park.
- 49:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I didn't grow up skating. Yeah, the
- 49:38Speaker 5: whole place is pretty iconic. Like you walk out there
- 49:41Speaker 5: and you're like, oh, I've seen this in a movie.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Oh that area. Yeah, and you said they filmed White
- 49:44Speaker 1: Man can't jump out there too.
- 49:45Speaker 5: Yeah. The they have like the basketball court area, there's
- 49:48Speaker 5: probably I don't know ten hoops and we looked it up.
- 49:51Speaker 5: That's exactly where they filmed it.
- 49:53Speaker 1: Okay, well we are going to leave this part. We're
- 49:58Speaker 1: going to put this part in the episode. And that's all.
- 50:02Speaker 1: I got nothing else. I'm lam sure all we came on?
- 50:04Speaker 1: Why do we come on? Because we're in La No.
- 50:06Speaker 1: I feel like we had a purpose. Yeah, I think
- 50:08Speaker 1: the purpose was what.
- 50:10Speaker 3: I don't know, talk more about Reid.
- 50:11Speaker 6: Is that what it was?
- 50:12Speaker 1: Well maybe it was. Yeah, we had the podcast coming up.
- 50:15Speaker 6: Oh yeah, maybe that's what it was.
- 50:16Speaker 1: And then also say read lost his phone in La yep.
- 50:19Speaker 1: And then also that read.
- 50:22Speaker 11: Hey shout out LJ.
- 50:23Speaker 3: Dude.
- 50:23Speaker 11: That's the guy I met at the skate park dreads.
- 50:26Speaker 6: He was a low He thought I was.
- 50:27Speaker 5: A local, Like have you done this in California?
- 50:30Speaker 10: Oh?
- 50:30Speaker 6: Yeah? I mean he was asking where I was from
- 50:31Speaker 6: stuff like that, and he was like, you ever go
- 50:34Speaker 6: to this once?
- 50:34Speaker 5: Pottle of here.
- 50:35Speaker 6: I was like, oh no, man, this is my first
- 50:36Speaker 6: time out here. And he was like, oh you ever
- 50:37Speaker 6: tried that California weed? And he hands me his blunt.
- 50:40Speaker 6: I was like, I'm good man, I appreciate it, though.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Wow right there, dude.
- 50:46Speaker 5: I just let them have their moment.
- 50:47Speaker 1: Man, I feel like we should do at least one
- 50:48Speaker 1: sports thing while we're here. Since the sports fair enough.
- 50:51Speaker 1: Should they ban the toush push? They're talking about it
- 50:53Speaker 1: now in league meetings, Eddie.
- 50:56Speaker 5: Your argument you made is pretty valid as far as
- 50:59Speaker 5: just like entertainment value and making it dramatic, and that
- 51:04Speaker 5: doesn't make it dramatic.
- 51:06Speaker 1: And I think there should be limited toush bushes. I know,
- 51:09Speaker 1: I don't think they should eliminate it. The people that
- 51:11Speaker 1: are upset about other people that can't do it, but
- 51:12Speaker 1: I think you only get X amount a game.
- 51:16Speaker 5: Oh man, I say, just let it let it play
- 51:18Speaker 5: the way it is.
- 51:18Speaker 3: I like it.
- 51:19Speaker 5: I like that only Philadelphia is the one that can
- 51:22Speaker 5: do it.
- 51:24Speaker 1: They are having league meetings now and that was one
- 51:26Speaker 1: of the topics that they're discussing. I don't think it'll
- 51:29Speaker 1: be eliminated this year. I think that it probably will
- 51:31Speaker 1: eventually be eliminated or they won't because they don't want
- 51:35Speaker 1: the Eagles to feel attacked. They probably will not say
- 51:38Speaker 1: no more tush pushes. They'll probably say no more and
- 51:41Speaker 1: they'll do it roll league wide. No more grabbing another
- 51:45Speaker 1: player and pulling them or pushing them forward, because I
- 51:48Speaker 1: could also be like grabbing somebody that's behind you and
- 51:50Speaker 1: pulling them into the end zone, right like. I think
- 51:52Speaker 1: they'll just reevaluate that definition.
- 51:56Speaker 5: And if they do do the verb, do they do
- 51:59Speaker 5: the words like that? I think that would be good,
- 52:02Speaker 5: that'd be okay. But that is but that is being
- 52:04Speaker 5: in the touch put.
- 52:05Speaker 1: It is kind of boring to watch touch push that one.
- 52:07Speaker 3: I know.
- 52:09Speaker 1: Yes, I also yes, I also don't think you should
- 52:12Speaker 1: be penalized though if you think of something within the.
- 52:14Speaker 5: Rules, it was genius.
- 52:16Speaker 1: They had the right pert. They still have the right
- 52:17Speaker 1: personnel to do it. You can't do that without a
- 52:19Speaker 1: quarterback like Jalen Hurts, who's super correct, and other people
- 52:24Speaker 1: have tried. I mean the Bills kind of tried with
- 52:26Speaker 1: Josh Allen playoffs Patrick Mahomes. They don't do it at
- 52:30Speaker 1: all because you got her to do quarterback sneakes. So okay,
- 52:32Speaker 1: there's our one sports thing in this segment. What would
- 52:34Speaker 1: you like to say?
- 52:34Speaker 11: I was just want to say, how many touch pushes
- 52:37Speaker 11: do you think should.
- 52:38Speaker 6: Be allowed in a game?
- 52:39Speaker 5: One?
- 52:39Speaker 6: Just one per team?
- 52:41Speaker 1: Right, I would say this is one and a half.
- 52:48Speaker 1: I would allow one a half.
- 52:49Speaker 5: One and a half or.
- 52:52Speaker 1: I think there could be part of the rule to
- 52:55Speaker 1: where if you're inside the three yard line you could
- 52:59Speaker 1: get too in a half if it's within the same series.
- 53:03Speaker 1: But I think just for fourth downs on like the
- 53:05Speaker 1: thirty eight yard line and then a fourth down again
- 53:08Speaker 1: on the Yeah, which is what that just gets to
- 53:10Speaker 1: be boring? Yeah, I think, yeah, that would be how
- 53:13Speaker 1: I would probably make sense. I think everything should be illegal, dude,
- 53:16Speaker 1: I think illegal, no legal, everything like pds, all of it.
- 53:21Speaker 4: No.
- 53:22Speaker 1: I'm like, in one player gets spikes on their shoulder pads,
- 53:25Speaker 1: it turns into what's the mel gives a movie from
- 53:28Speaker 1: back in the day, mad mad mad gosh, those pads no,
- 53:33Speaker 1: like you know how I'm madden.
- 53:35Speaker 6: Like, at least when I used to play, you could
- 53:37Speaker 6: like take your whole team and push them to the
- 53:38Speaker 6: left with just like one dude running behind.
- 53:41Speaker 11: Like I think that should.
- 53:42Speaker 6: I mean, I think you should do that.
- 53:43Speaker 1: I don't even understand how woul happen in real life.
- 53:45Speaker 11: Though, really, I mean I just say, everybody go left.
- 53:48Speaker 1: And then you follow, like, oh, like the student body
- 53:52Speaker 1: like that used to be the play, Like student body left.
- 53:54Speaker 5: Was everybody everyone, You just run behind everyone.
- 53:57Speaker 1: It was like old college football. Oh really, yeah, that's
- 54:00Speaker 1: wishbone kind of what happens.
- 54:02Speaker 5: You're right if you can execute it, hey man, within.
- 54:04Speaker 1: The rules, Within the rules. I did want to follow
- 54:09Speaker 1: up on a story. I said that I was going
- 54:10Speaker 1: to tell an accent story because I was talking about
- 54:14Speaker 1: being in Germany, and I referenced it's fine line and
- 54:21Speaker 1: another country even here on a microphone here in.
- 54:26Speaker 5: Where are you going with this?
- 54:27Speaker 1: Well, I gotta be care. I don't want to get
- 54:29Speaker 1: canceled basically, okay, and I don't think I'm going to,
- 54:32Speaker 1: but what will happens? I'll use Germany as an example,
- 54:36Speaker 1: everybody speaks English basically when you travel through Europe. Okay,
- 54:40Speaker 1: And it's not like I missed a world traveler. In
- 54:42Speaker 1: the last few years. I've been doing stuff like this.
- 54:44Speaker 1: This is kind of crazy. And my wife gets a
- 54:47Speaker 1: bit irritated at me when one of these other countries
- 54:50Speaker 1: when they speak English and I speak English, but yet
- 54:53Speaker 1: I still try to meet them in the middle.
- 54:56Speaker 5: You try to speak They're broken.
- 54:58Speaker 1: English kind of so obviously they have an accent, but
- 55:04Speaker 1: they do speak English, and sometimes not the best. Sometimes
- 55:08Speaker 1: these verbs are in weird places. And can you do
- 55:11Speaker 1: a German accent at all?
- 55:12Speaker 5: Oh, like a German speaking English?
- 55:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, yeah, just you go with that though, go
- 55:19Speaker 1: with that and ask me, ask me, And this is okay.
- 55:22Speaker 1: I swear to you. This is what I do when
- 55:24Speaker 1: I'm in places, and I'm not doing it to be funny.
- 55:27Speaker 1: I'm doing it because I tell my wife a medium
- 55:29Speaker 1: in the middle, because if they speak in this accent
- 55:31Speaker 1: and they're speaking English, they this is how they know
- 55:34Speaker 1: it and.
- 55:34Speaker 5: Hear it their English.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Yes, so this is going to be we're doing improv. Uh,
- 55:39Speaker 1: you're working at a hotel, I'm a German, you're a
- 55:42Speaker 1: German at a hotel. I'm rolling in with bags? Oh okay,
- 55:45Speaker 1: and I'll go first. Hey, we're here to check in.
- 55:48Speaker 5: What do you want to say?
- 55:49Speaker 1: I didn't matter. You're working the desk.
- 55:51Speaker 5: Is this all these bags you have?
- 55:54Speaker 1: Yes? These bags that I have here are the bags
- 55:58Speaker 1: and you can leave them here or we can takes
- 56:00Speaker 1: him with us.
- 56:01Speaker 5: Have you already checked in?
- 56:06Speaker 1: No? Have not checked in? Dunk?
- 56:13Speaker 5: This is bad. This is what you were doing. This
- 56:15Speaker 5: is bad?
- 56:16Speaker 1: Is it because I'm just I was like, no, that's
- 56:22Speaker 1: that's the point of it is best. The point of
- 56:24Speaker 1: it is, Eddie. If I were speaking Spanish but I
- 56:27Speaker 1: don't have the accent and I know Spanish, I was like,
- 56:30Speaker 1: I was like, oh uh, and you talked back to
- 56:36Speaker 1: me and like an American accent in Spanish. It would
- 56:40Speaker 1: help me know that because that's how I talk in it.
- 56:42Speaker 5: But but why are you struggling with words that you know?
- 56:45Speaker 5: You're like, how do I say? Like you speak English?
- 56:49Speaker 10: Dude?
- 56:52Speaker 1: That's kind of why I pissed my wife off. That okay, okay,
- 56:55Speaker 1: but I don't do it.
- 56:57Speaker 5: How do you say?
- 57:02Speaker 1: But I did say, like I think it's it's it's
- 57:05Speaker 1: a dunk DUNKA yeah, I did say that, but part
- 57:10Speaker 1: of it, I'm like to back, you can go to
- 57:12Speaker 1: the room, dunka uh good dog. But I do all
- 57:18Speaker 1: my English in their acts.
- 57:20Speaker 5: Interesting. I mean, that's kind that's kind of you.
- 57:22Speaker 1: I feel like I'm trying, like I'm leaning in to
- 57:26Speaker 1: make it easier for them, because they've leaned in to
- 57:29Speaker 1: make it easier for me. I don't feel like i'm
- 57:32Speaker 1: doing now. I will say this, and I don't like this,
- 57:36Speaker 1: and this does not make me a good or bad person.
- 57:38Speaker 1: And I don't do it on purpose. But I also
- 57:40Speaker 1: do it at Chinese restaurants in America.
- 57:43Speaker 5: I know here that's different.
- 57:45Speaker 1: I don't mean to, but it's just natural that if
- 57:48Speaker 1: someone comes up, I'm not gonna do the Chinese one
- 57:54Speaker 1: will get me canceled in South. But let's just say
- 57:57Speaker 1: I'll do Mouse. But imagine if Mickey Mouse were actually
- 58:02Speaker 1: someone of the Chinese restaurants, speaking in a Chinese accent
- 58:06Speaker 1: but doing but speaking in English. Okay, They were.
- 58:09Speaker 10: Like, hello, would you like some sweet and sour soup?
- 58:12Speaker 10: And if you would, thank you for coming to the restaurant,
- 58:14Speaker 10: And would you also like with your food, would you
- 58:17Speaker 10: like some uh beef broccoli in the N I answer back, yes,
- 58:23Speaker 10: I would like, but I'm only doing it because I
- 58:27Speaker 10: feel like they know because obviously they don't have a
- 58:29Speaker 10: full grasp of the accent, so I'm trying to meet
- 58:31Speaker 10: them at their accent.
- 58:32Speaker 5: You don't think they understand you if you spoke regular English.
- 58:35Speaker 1: Though, I think, And here's the reason my answer is no.
- 58:41Speaker 1: When I lived in Texas my friend group and Eddie
- 58:45Speaker 1: can speak to this, I was the minority.
- 58:47Speaker 5: Oh, we were all Mexican.
- 58:48Speaker 1: Everybody was Mexican or black, but me and all the
- 58:53Speaker 1: Mexicans that were my friends or span X, but they
- 58:56Speaker 1: even call themselves Mexicans.
- 58:58Speaker 5: We're in Hispanics, but like we're I would say that.
- 59:01Speaker 1: He'd be like, is fanic. I'd be like, why don't
- 59:03Speaker 1: we canceled? They're like, well, what are we going to do?
- 59:05Speaker 1: Cancel you with your friends? And they'd be like, we're
- 59:09Speaker 1: just Mexicans. And so when you guys would speak Spanish
- 59:14Speaker 1: fast with the Spanish accent from Mexico really struggled. If
- 59:22Speaker 1: you spoke it a little slower and not as accented,
- 59:28Speaker 1: I could understand it so much better.
- 59:30Speaker 5: Yeah, so you're saying that if you spoke English regular
- 59:34Speaker 5: like this, like we're talking real fast.
- 59:37Speaker 1: If I'm meaning like slang, I'm like chill, that's lit. Yeah,
- 59:43Speaker 1: even I talk fast naturally as a human anyway, if
- 59:45Speaker 1: I'm talking to them like this here but it's not
- 59:47Speaker 1: like they come with bags up to the room, but you.
- 59:52Speaker 5: Could say like to that point, you could say hi,
- 59:56Speaker 5: I'm here to check in.
- 59:58Speaker 1: But then I feel like you're talking to him like
- 59:59Speaker 1: the child. Yes, and I felt like that too, like
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: I'm talking down to them ye like, and I'm already
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: appreciative they've learned English.
- 1:00:06Speaker 12: And so do you think any of them were like,
- 1:00:08Speaker 12: where's this dude from? Like I can't he's not American. Well,
- 1:00:11Speaker 12: I think they thought I was a vampire in German.
- 1:00:13Speaker 12: It's because my accent back sounded much much more Transylvanian
- 1:00:17Speaker 12: than German.
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: I mean, I want to suck you.
- 1:00:24Speaker 6: Yeah, my god.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: So all I'm saying is I don't. I felt like
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: I was doing the right thing. It annoyed my wife,
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: which she would be like, please stop doing that. How
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: would she talk to like a normal human? And then
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: even at restaurants like don't do that, don't do it
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: because I don't mean to do that. At Chinese restaurants.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: It's just my heart is so big it is, man,
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: Thank you, that's all I wanted to say. All right,
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: theme song out, Theme song out, We're done. Thank you

- 1:00:52Speaker 5: You too.
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: Man.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: If I'm a bad person, I'm sorry. I don't mean
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: to be.
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: No, you're kind.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: You did it for them, your heart's in it like
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: you have the right mindset. I'm misunderstood. Yes, that's what
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: it is. Thank you, and thanks again to coach, and
