- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to Three Yards Perkati, a podcast covering the Miami Dolphins and the NFL.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: Now, here's your host, Chris, Alf, and Simon.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_05]: And we're on this Three Yards Perkari with a free door to you.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_05]: I'm back from the dead.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_05]: Simon Clancy is here, Chris Kaufman is here, and it feels like a thousand years since I've been on this show.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_05]: So it seems like we have a new coaching staff.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_05]: They all took to the podium today.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_05]: And I guess some news was made.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_05]: Bobby Slovak, I guess wants to bring back everybody on the roster.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_05]: Dougie was kind of interesting in his I like Chris Tabor's presentation.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know if you guys saw any of it But if you want to talk a little bit about how this staff came off today.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_05]: I love Chris Tabor by the way Your thoughts Simon on their presentation today on the podium all the new guys on the coaching staff
- 1:01[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't even know it happened.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_05]: So it's an hour's worth of them bending about with the with the with the beat.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_04]: No, I'm also I confess.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_04]: I'm also behind.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_04]: I did not see that.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_02]: How if you just tell us about it because.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_05]: Chris Taibor kind of Confirm what we all think return man important place kicker extremely important.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_05]: uh... he talked about uh... where he's been at from buffalo uh... he always kept a place in florida goes way back with halfly they see eye to eye on how to build as far as you know special team players the kind of special teams players that they want and need uh... due to his pretty much boiler plate stuff uh... slow it was the one that was kind of interesting where
- 1:57[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, talked up Devon HN a lot, um, talked about being in the same coaching tree as Kyle Shanahan spoke about how, hey, I belong to this tree and I came up on the defensive side of the football and that's something that Kyle taught a, you know, taught us all, you know, especially Nike and myself talked about Mike McDaniel also.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_05]: and spoke about how, you know, Kyle influences the biggest, Kyle shenan is the biggest influence on his coaching career.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_05]: And essentially, yeah, we're running the same system.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_02]: And if they're trading, if they're trading, I channeled brother, then you could understand them changing the system.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: But, it's the two of us, I mean, it's the two best place on the team.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: Why would you?
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: Well, what would you, you know?
- 2:47[SPEAKER_03]: and not for nothing, but Jalen Waddle was not much before he met that system either.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_03]: He was, remember, remember, he was a slot guy.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_03]: He was the next O.J.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_03]: McDuffy.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_03]: Basically, the season before.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_03]: So, I mean, it's just, it's not just HN and Burr, although that's a point well made.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_03]: There's multiple players there that are used to this.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's both job was under Mike Shannon, you know, and he's grown up with those Ray Morris, Mike Redaniel, you know, Carl Shannon, you know, all of those guys, Sean McVay, that's been his, you know, Robert Sala, that's, that's his thing, that's you, you know, so.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: If they'd come out staying so we're going to run gap power and it's going to be completely different.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_02]: That would have been, you know, crazy, but the reason the Bobby slow it was kept around is because That's what suits the players the best players that they have and it would be, you know, Ridiculous to change it.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_03]: And the slow game is is aristocracy in that whole tree and anyway, You know, there's there's there's heritage there.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_03]: There's multiple slowx and there's There's they're all they're all part of the same, you know,
- 4:02[SPEAKER_03]: that whole crew, uh, which I call it churchy shanontology.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_05]: We should make t-shirts.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_02]: Churchy shanontology.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: You're, you're, you're obsessed.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_03]: I am.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: No, I, I'll fizz obsessed.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, what, what t-shirts?
- 4:19[SPEAKER_02]: In general, with with shanahan.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_03]: Shanontology.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_03]: That is, that is true.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_03]: That is true.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_03]: Alpha's the one reading the book.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, you got to read that book.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_05]: That book is like, it's, I'll tell you I'm really, really kind of digging.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_05]: And I thought he was in the hall of fame.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_05]: And I don't know why he's not in the hall of fame.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_05]: The old man, Mike Shannon, what a fabulous coach.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_05]: And he's all over that book.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_05]: Like, to be honest with you, now that I'm basically done with the book, the guy who comes off the horse on the whole in the whole book is our former guy, Mike McFanke.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_05]: Like, it doesn't come off too good in this book.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_05]: Like he gets tucked down to several times by Kyle.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_05]: It seems like he was the beat-up boy on several staffs.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_05]: Shy McVay, the whole book is basically a love letter to Shy McVay and to the old man Mike Shannon.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_05]: And there's a lot of Kyle in there, but Kyle comes off kind of like an asshole in most of the book and a drunk for half of the book.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_05]: So, yeah, it's worth reading.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_05]: It's really, really worth reading, okay?
- 5:20[SPEAKER_05]: It's like, there's all kinds of stuff there for everybody.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_05]: You know, but yeah, Mike McDaniel kind of, there is no Bobby Slook in the book, by the way, there's like I think two mentions of him very very few mentions It's basically, you know, the big wicks.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_05]: The ones that we all know about, but yeah, Mike McDaniel does not come off or to create in this book.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the Doug and have to say, because Doug and strikes me is a guy who will be, will be a head coach within five years.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: one is dug in play too, so I don't know.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, I think we're going to lock him, but I don't know if from Green Bay people, they were disappointed to lose him because he's like a head coach in the making.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, he gave a good presser, you know, like he had all, he hit those erogenous zones like control your gap, see where you're hitting, you have to be able to see numbers, you're just seeing name plates or numbers,
- 6:17[SPEAKER_05]: You're not playing sideways, especially on the defensive line.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_05]: What else did he say?
- 6:23[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, everything starts and stops with stopping the run.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_05]: And the passing game is built upon higher edge rushers in the wide nine.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_05]: He mentioned the wide nine.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_05]: How they get home on the wide nine and how they married to your coverages on the back end.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_05]: Talk about how safety is to quarterback of the defense.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just inundated right now with all these, all these sexual metaphors from the health where he said, he started out by saying, he gave good, he gave good presser, and then he, and then he went right into a rogeness zones.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_03]: Now he's talking about the back end.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_03]: And now he's talking about, you know, he's talking about edging.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, it was just, it's too much health.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, if you're here, if you're here football, like, you know, people had no how to speak sexy football, that's what it sounded like, what we're doing today.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: What did, um, what did, um, he or halfway have to say about corners.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_02]: They make any kind of, they talk about press or how they were going to play in terms of, um, was what I'm thinking, just in terms of how it might play out with man's sword delaying in German before it ends in Colton Hood.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I have to just introduce the guys and just got out of the way.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_05]: Dugan didn't really talk about corners all that much.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_05]: He didn't even talk about coverage is all that much.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_05]: He did talk about stopping the run.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_05]: I guess he explained his philosophy, which is, I had never really heard a defense of coach say it like that, but it makes perfect sense.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_05]: You don't play defensive.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_05]: You don't play on the defensive line sideways, you know, which is, yeah, it's a truth.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_05]: So Annie mentioned the widenine.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_05]: So those are mostly what made news as far as the system is concerned.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_03]: The system is, this system is, you know, more press man than some others, right?
- 8:24[SPEAKER_03]: Simon, if I'm not mistaken, I mean, that was what has like brought to Boston College.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_03]: That was when he, when he took over the most interesting thing to me is that Joe Barry is
- 8:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, because Joe Barry was the defensive coordinator that everybody in Green Bay hated that was replaced by Jeff Haffley and when Joe Barry was fired from Green Bay, he was hired in Miami to be our linebackers coach and now, you know, here Jeff Haffley is coming in as the head coach and Joe Barry and Joe Barry's not going to be the defensive coordinator.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_03]: It's as dogan.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_03]: But Barry's staying on, but that was one of the things I halfway brought with him to Green Bay, too, was Joe Barry.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_03]: They have versus Jeff Afflead.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_03]: They had very opposite, ups and ends of the spectrum, I think, in terms of playing off, and in terms of playing man, I thought.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_03]: But I'm not the Green Bay expert here.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_02]: And what do Slurik say on to her?
- 9:32[SPEAKER_05]: He talked about how, you know, he basically didn't dismiss outright, like what I'm quote, trying to fix to her.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_05]: He says he understood what went wrong, which is.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_05]: a great mission.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_05]: I haven't heard anybody.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_05]: I actually on the staff not even Mike McDaniel any of the coaches say they knew what went wrong, but slow except he knew what went wrong.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_05]: He mentioned sometimes it's not the physical it's the mental.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, what else did he mention about about to uh, um, it was, I guess he was kind of effusive, uh, on to as far as the player that he is or what he can be, uh, he didn't outright dismiss him.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_05]: He talked up Alec Engel says he wants Alec Engel back because the fullback is part of his offense.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_05]: And he can't think of a better full back right now.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_05]: And he's already on the roster.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_05]: Those are his exact words.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_05]: So he wants Alec Engel back.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_05]: No mention of Darren Waller.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_05]: They didn't ask him about any of the wide receivers.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_05]: The asked about Devon H and he went on and on and on.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_05]: He said that reviewing film, he counted one mistake that Devon H and made in a six week period.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_05]: And that one mistake Devon H and fixed it the following week.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_05]: And he's never seen it since.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_05]: So he's talking about how smart he is as a football player.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_05]: Like he went on and on about the Vonage.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_05]: So.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_03]: Honestly, I honestly think we have to be prepared for the possibility that to a tongue of a law is on the dolphins in 2026 because I don't think anybody is prepared for that.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_03]: And so it's sort of like getting out ahead of it because I think that this is setting up to be a very similar situation to where the falcons were last year with Kirk Cousins.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_03]: And everybody was
- 11:22[SPEAKER_03]: very much assuming unanimously on social media and media and elsewhere that it was a trade or cut situation with Kirk Cousins.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_03]: And if you looked at the details of the contract and all everything that didn't make much sense, it was more of a trade versus keep situation.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_03]: And so they got
- 11:48[SPEAKER_03]: you're just going to cut them right and then they didn't cut them.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that that could happen with, I'm not saying he's going to start next year for the dolphins.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think that's true.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_03]: But I think that, you know, if it comes down to it, if the dolphins are searching for a trade partner with him and everybody out there says somewhere along the lines of no we're not going to take any of that guaranteed salary off your hands.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_03]: None.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_03]: We're just either going to wait for you to cut them because we think you're going to cut them or they say that the 2027 and beyond part of that contract is too much a little problem for us to trade for.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_03]: Then then it could Miami could be sitting there like, well, we're paying the guy are so he might as well be here like he might as well be here as a QB2.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you got to pay money for a QB my image is paid what $8 million for Zach Wilson is $6 million, I'm like that for a QB to you got to pay money for a QB to for a good QB to and here we've we've already sunk in the cost unto it and and it's like a lot like Kirk Cousins, you know, this isn't Tyre Kill where he's going to burn the house now literally and figuratively.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_03]: I think this is this is this is a guy that isn't an asshole.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_03]: You know, he's going to, you know, if he's the QB2, you know, compete, he'll be part of that room.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_03]: He'll, you know, do his job and do those things per cousins.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_03]: Was that way, you know, and so I think I think we, you know, but I'm not saying it's going to happen.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to, they're going to trade them.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to try to trade them.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_03]: That's plan A number by far, but if they don't succeed in that, I wonder he could be QB2 next year.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I don't let it be lost at Tyre Kills house burnt to the ground in the middle of a playoff run team was team was like what 9 in 3 9 in 4 and his house burns to the ground and doesn't practice for 3 days because he's dealing with his house burning to the ground this team is nothing but nothing but entertainment
- 13:55[SPEAKER_05]: the last four years, just good wholesome fun, really.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_05]: Even when you're 93 and 94, that'll move us right into what I really wanted to talk about because I just took a stroll through Twitter and I said, yeah, good old Chris Kaufman is here fighting the good fight.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_05]: I'm Malik Wallace.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_05]: Let me read what he has to say.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_05]: And I made the mistake of reading all the comments below Chris
- 14:22[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, it's always a mistake.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_05]: I'm not doing that again.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, and I was like I was itching to just jump and I'm like, you know what?
- 14:29[SPEAKER_05]: Chris is on his own here.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to discord, I'm going to our discord, enjoy our discord, onlyfencediscord.gg, onlyfence here it is again.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_05]: Join out on a desktop, it's 499 all access.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_05]: And you can talk about leak will is there.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_05]: And you're not going to get 4,000 replies calling you and 80 it.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_05]: All right?
- 14:49[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_05]: But you jumped out there.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_05]: As you said, I did.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_05]: Dolphins got to go all in on this guy.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_05]: Look, I'll explain to you, you know, because everybody, he's a 35 passes.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, he's a 35 passes.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_05]: He was the best quarterback for those 35 passes that I saw play football last year.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_05]: Better than staffer better than Drake bank.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_05]: Well, I think we're the two best quarterbacks in football.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_05]: Kind of 145 passes already.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_05]: Like he's completely three of 35 passes.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_05]: The fucking guy was insane.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Baltimore, Chicago.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: he was electric and you know, it's not just the arm, it's not just the legs, it's the poise, it's the ability to manipulate the pocket, it's the accuracy, it's the deep ball throwing, it's the dissonance, it's the dissonance, the sight of this, the conviction, it's all of those things.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: I, you know, and I also idiotically made the mistake of reading the replies,
- 15:43[SPEAKER_02]: and it was just a lot of people who had not seen Malik with his play, which is fine.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_02]: But I just want people to come out and say that, you know, he's just a guy, he's there, he's there, he's terrible, you're an idiot, it's just like, you know, what what we even do and what we even watch in, you know, just watch the, just watch the rave, what's the first throw of the game against the rave?
- 16:03[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_03]: This ship was that horticultural.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, they show actually the second throw.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_05]: The second throw against the Ravens.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_05]: The first throw is a goal ball.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_05]: He identifies the coverage and he just drops it in the bucket beautiful throw.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_03]: But that was a real, that was an interesting throw itself too before you get on to the second throw.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_03]: Because that was kind of a different ball from sort of a sister like that was a real up and down like, you know, he he puts a mirror under that one and it kind of shows that you know, he knows he has different clubs in the back.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_03]: And that's that's I think has been a criticism of him in a past.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_02]: The reply I loved most was the guy who said that the guy who said he didn't understand the fascination when Melique Willis, because if he was a starter, if he was a star, green may wouldn't let him leave.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_02]: And the 49ers traded Joe Montana when they realized they had Steve Young.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's just like dude, Montana was like 38 or something.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_02]: 37 when that happened.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_02]: Like can you be serious?
- 17:07[SPEAKER_05]: People forget, when Joe Montana got traded, I have it now fresh in my memory, I actually lived those days.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_05]: I love football from the 90s and from my money.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, the Patriots of the last 20, whatever odd years, those Bella chick teams, yeah, spectacular.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_05]: Second best dynasty was those 49er teams from 80s, like the mid 90s, like he 15 years of dominance.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_02]: He was placed into a bad situation in Tennessee, having needed time to develop.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_02]: He was labelled a bus, he was essentially given away by the times.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_02]: Green may pick them up and they did exactly what you should do with the young court back coming from the system that he did.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_02]: They nurtured him, they taught him how to play.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_02]: NFL football and when Jordan left went down in 2024 he came in and he literally saved the pack of season and then this year when Jordan got the concussion against Chicago he came in and he did exactly the same.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_02]: He led that and he and the pack is should have beaten the bears in the regular season at the end of the season.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_02]: He beat Baltimore at home, at the end of the beat Baltimore at home.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_02]: He kept their division hopes alive, disease this past season.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_02]: And for everybody going, he's only throwing 155 passes, or he only wanted it.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_02]: We should truly be doing this on based on just two games last season, but it's not about 100-feature five passes or two games.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's about what those 150-feature five passes and those two games say about his abilities.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_02]: That's far more important than the number of throws he's had.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and I just think people can't look past him than they know sometimes.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, we were talking about all the time about this guy can make this throw in that guy can make that throw his second throw against the ravens when he hits that that seemed ball to to Christian Watson.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_05]: He sees he sees a safety essentially with a forward lean and he doesn't hesitate.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_05]: He puts that ball right past his ear to Christian Watson and we got to action touch them.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_05]: You see that throw.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_05]: That's a staffford like throw.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_05]: Maybe maybe it has made that throw this season.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_02]: But also what you're going to do what you're doing with him.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know, if you're smart, you're signing into a shorter contract.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_02]: And Miami might lose out.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: They might lose out to the jets, for example, or somebody like that who just says, you know what, the dolphins are probably going to, they're going to want to get in the 2022 7 race, maybe they're offering two years, 40 million.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_02]: The jets say, you know what, well, for you three years,
- 19:25[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, 50 million or 60 million or whatever and we end up losing out right but if the dolphins are smart and they and they they offer them a two-year deal That doesn't take you out of the 2027 court back race at all.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_02]: You're just essentially hedging your bets.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_02]: You know if you sign a leak with this
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: And he plays brilliantly in 2026, and the dolphins win 10 games and go to the playoffs, and Willis plays at a probal level.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: Then in the 2027 draft, you don't draft a quarterback anyway.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_02]: Your recent Willis to a big contract, and you use the draft capital to sign other players.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, if he plays next year, and he turns out not to be very good, and, you know, he is just a guy, then what have you done?
- 20:05[SPEAKER_02]: You spent money that it is not relevant to the fans anyway, it's not your money.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_02]: and you are still in the same position as you were, knowing that you're going into a quarterback draft with 5, 6, 7, 8 potential first round quarterbasses we sit here now.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_02]: And nothing's changed.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't understand the downside, right?
- 20:23[SPEAKER_03]: To that point Simon though, I think people are completely misunderstanding and then it's because they're they're kind of making it up in their heads and I think it's just because he's he's he's been a backup and so in their minds They know what that is and and so this is why you mentioned before these are people that have not watched them play
- 20:42[SPEAKER_03]: And that's the common reply that I've that I that had the people on on X is like just tell me you haven't watched them play just tell me you haven't watched them play you know because if you watched and play you wouldn't be making the ceiling argument because and that's what the people are that while this is just another way to get an eight and nine season this is you know great you congratulations you built another seven and ten.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_03]: team with Malik Willis and stuff like that.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm like you're completely misunderstanding who he is as a player in his DNA and what he's done in Green Bay.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_03]: Because this isn't, the ceiling is not the problem.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_03]: There are problems with Malik Willis.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_03]: The ceiling is not the problem.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_03]: If he merely does what he did in Green Bay and it wasn't, you know, I know it was just 35 passes this year but it was also like 54 last year.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like so, so I mean, it was it was more is, you know, and then all the scrambles and all that, you know, everything, everything else, that comes with it.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_03]: So if he merely does what he did in Green Bay, except, you know, four X more of it because he's a full season starter, then he's in the MVP conversation, like because that's the potency of what he was doing, the counting stats, the efficiency stats, everything, every all of the above, the winning,
- 22:01[SPEAKER_03]: You know the winning on the field hasn't turned the bowl of a has not thrown any exception right and so and so if he merely does that except over a full season That's your ceiling.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_03]: He's like an MVP caliber player so he's not the ceiling.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_03]: It's not the problem
- 22:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're a huge productive.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_02]: You look at EPA Pro Dropback, okay?
- 22:24[SPEAKER_02]: He's second in the NFL in 225.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_02]: He's off target, right?
- 22:27[SPEAKER_02]: I.e.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_02]: the amount of frozen off the target.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_02]: He's he's least worse.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_02]: He's first I.e.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's the most correct person.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_03]: He's the most accurate.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's a in his in this throw is in 225.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_03]: And that really surprised me on the film.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, film watch.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_02]: He's yard per pass attempt 11.1 is also first in the NFL, rushing yards per game, 44.2, also.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_02]: first in the NFL.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_02]: In fact, the only thing he's second at out of those for is the paper drop back and he's not 0.01% behind Drake may.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, it's it's the top right to a thing like it's it's top right.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_03]: I'm a little close.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_02]: You know, well, yeah, and those numbers probably wouldn't hold up over a much larger.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_02]: But what they do do is give you an idea of the potential of this guy.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_02]: And that's good.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what people don't understand.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_03]: And if you look at the player like listen, this is not Matt Flynn from a DNA standpoint, right?
- 23:19[SPEAKER_03]: Like this is not, if you look, yeah, if you look at, if you look at this, if you look at, if you look at this, if you look at it from a DNA standpoint, if you look at it from a DNA standpoint, this is a guy who has a how it's referred arm.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_03]: Right, let's start there because, you know, some of the guys that we're talking about that are backups, I think this is why people have this view of a backup and what that means is a backup commonly doesn't have the same arm or calmer arm as as these the starters in the NFL.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_03]: So he's got a how it's referring arm, it can make every throw including some real rivers that like you know just just absolutely.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_03]: Kill a defense and then his elusiveness.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_03]: and his scrambling ability and is that overall athleticism and toughness and strength.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, when this guy was at Auburn, I was like, this guy could be a professional running back.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_03]: Like, he had that kind of skill set to him and he puts that on display in green bay, you know, really well.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_03]: So if you're looking at the pure talent, his DNA, his makeup, you wouldn't say that this is a ceiling problem.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_03]: And then if you look at his production in green bay in Miami system, by the way, in green bay, you look at that production.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_03]: Those efficiency, all the things that you that you cited Simon, that's not a ceiling problem.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_03]: It's more of the unknown.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_03]: It's more of the unknowables.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_03]: Like, if you haven't played 17 games, do you suddenly discover he's got a durability issue?
- 24:45[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_03]: You can't know that, right?
- 24:49[SPEAKER_03]: So to your point about how you can still circle back to 2027, if it goes wrong with Willis, with Malik Willis,
- 24:59[SPEAKER_03]: You're probably still going to be in a pretty good position for that 2027 draft right because the team isn't going to be necessarily any better and if it goes wrong with will is because of a durability issue or something like that, then you're probably pretty bad team and if it goes wrong with will is because of all the unknowables, you know, he he.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_03]: did well with this team with these players in this chemistry.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_03]: Now he's in a different situation.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe he doesn't make decisions the same way.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_03]: It happens.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_03]: That's all I can say.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_03]: It happens sometimes.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_03]: If it goes wrong, it's a floor issue with Malik Willis.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_03]: It's the unknowns and the unknowables that are enemy here.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_03]: That means that it's very boomer bust, which fits in
- 25:47[SPEAKER_03]: troubles a joke now, but I mean, either he's going to be that kind of a caliber player because he's already been that caliber player in our system and that his DNA, you know, kind of makes him up that way or all of those unknowns from the fact that he only threw 89 passes in the two years with the green bay, all the things that you can't know from 89 passes
- 26:09[SPEAKER_03]: you're really come home to to sit on him as a player.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, you're in perfect position to draft somebody in 2027 anyway.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_03]: So how's that?
- 26:20[SPEAKER_03]: How can you lose?
- 26:21[SPEAKER_03]: How can you lose there?
- 26:22[SPEAKER_03]: I don't understand it.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, no, and I like what I like about Malik Willis and we're going to go break here is the details.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_05]: I just finished watching a bunch of shrine quarterbacks and senior bull quarterbacks, you know, try to do play action and you see them at the mesh point and you see the balls out in space and the running backs basically by the by the hot dog stand and it just looks completely like shit and it's not moving a lineback or it's not selling a safety.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_05]: Watch Malik Willis handle the football.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_05]: Look, I've said it a million times over.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_05]: I think two a tongue-aballua, even at his worst, is probably the best ball handling quarterback in the NFL.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_05]: Watch Milliequillus.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_05]: And tell me what you see as far as a ball handler at the message point with running backs.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_05]: Just as good.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_05]: So yeah, I'm intrigued.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_05]: And if it's gonna cost us, like, the first one, it's not my money.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_05]: If it's gonna cost us $20 million to try them off for 17 games,
- 27:17[SPEAKER_05]: great like you know the best case scenario you know he's really really good team wins some games and you got yourself a quarterback of the future if he's not that good you're still going to get into that pool in 2027 it's it's a large quarterback pool it's not like there's one or two guys and there is no law against packaging picks to move up four or five spots to grab the guy that you want as well so we're gonna break and when we come back we're gonna talk about
- 27:46[SPEAKER_05]: And we're going to have Simon Plug, his podcast, which gets back going again tomorrow with Wakal Krabs.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_05]: But first, let me tell you about upside.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_05]: Financial resolutions are great, but let's be real, but just don't reset on January 1st between post holiday credit card bills and getting back to your regular routine cash this tight.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_05]: That's why there's upside.

- 28:20[SPEAKER_05]: And yes, it's cash back.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_05]: not point that you'll never use or credits that expire money transfer straight to your bank account.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_05]: Here's how it works.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_05]: You open the app, you claim an offer, pay with your card like normal and get paid.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_05]: That's it.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_05]: I've already used it several several times and I've told you the story, I've put $31.50 in gas.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_05]: way to $24, sure enough, I had $3 and 15 cents in my upside app, ready to transfer back to my account.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_05]: So, upside is already given back $1 billion to its users to find out how much you can earn download the free upside app today.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_05]: And use the promo code three yards, that's the number three yards.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_05]: To get an extra 25 cents back for every gallon on your first tank, a guess.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_05]: That's an extra 25 cents back for every gallon on your first tank, a guess.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_05]: Using the promo code three yards, that's upside.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_05]: And of course, underdog fantasy, they're with us for the calendar year of 2026, and what a better time to talk about underdog fantasy than leading into the big game on Sunday, football playoffs right here, and underdog is the best place to get in on all the great iron action.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_05]: Playing on underdog gets easy, just pick whether you're favorite player, we'll go higher or lower on stats like touchdowns, receiving yards, and receptions, and more.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_05]: Are you picks right and you can win up to 5,000 times your cash?
- 29:36[SPEAKER_05]: Now, for this game, I actually love
- 29:39[SPEAKER_05]: And I suggest you write them down because I've actually been pretty hot on these things.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_05]: In fact, at one point doing these promos, I had four in a row.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_05]: So I can't tell you the dollar amount, but it's a lot.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_05]: Once you hit four parlays in a row, okay?
- 29:55[SPEAKER_05]: Jackson Smith in Jigba to score.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_05]: Point five touchdowns, higher.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_05]: Hunter Henry, point five touchdowns, higher.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_05]: Why Hunter Henry?
- 30:04[SPEAKER_05]: Would you be surprised to know that to see how
- 30:09[SPEAKER_05]: Well, they are.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_05]: So yeah, I like Hunter Henry again in the end zone.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_05]: And Remandre Stevenson, 14 and a half rushing attempts, I like to go lower on that.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_05]: I think trivia on Henderson gets the ball in this game.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_05]: So what are you waiting for?
- 30:22[SPEAKER_05]: That will be apt today and use the promo code three yards to score 75 dollars in bonus entries when you play your first five dollars.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_05]: That's promo code three yards underdog.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_05]: Make picks win money.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: B-18 Plus, 19 plus in Alabama in Nebraska, 19 plus in Colorado for some games, Toronto and plus in Arizona, Massachusetts, and Virginia, and present in a state where underdog fantasy operates.

- 31:07[SPEAKER_05]: And we are back.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_05]: 7 before we kick this off here and we talk about a little team building of the two Superbowl participants.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_05]: Tell me what you're doing at the low red zone sub-stack.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_02]: We're doing a draft book class by self and a good friend car collapse, it's on every week, and I think we're recording tomorrow.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_02]: Cars been in mobile, so we're going to tap into everything that went on down at the senior ball as we build up towards the draft.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_05]: Give us a preview, give me one player from Orbeal, that cut your eye.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_02]: One, Malachi fields, the one I just heard from Notre Dame, who we talked up on the first low-red zone draw show when Carla and I were talking about under the radar guys that we thought might end up in the first round and lo and behold, Malachi fields then appeared in Matt Miller's first round mock draft released on Monday of a week.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, Malachi fields.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_05]: All right, let's talk a little team building.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_05]: That's going to be fun episode tomorrow of the low red zone.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_05]: You can get this right on our feed.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_05]: You can listen to it right on our three-yard precarious feed.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_05]: It's been very well received.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_05]: I watched your downloads.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_05]: So I see that you like it people.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_05]: So you'll get more of it.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_05]: Let's talk a little team building.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_05]: I look at the C-hawks and I'll start this off.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_05]: I look at the C-hawks and it's just discouraging.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_05]: Because you see what Schneider has done there.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_05]: Just look at their last four drafts.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_05]: That's what I want to look at.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_05]: Look at their free agent signings.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_05]: And that guy's just rolling 7's and 11's over and over and over again.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_05]: All they really needed to do was just get the quarterback right.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_05]: They had Gino Smith.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_05]: They weren't a bad team.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_05]: They missed the playoffs going winning, winning 10 games one year.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_05]: And that was a good football team, by the way.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_05]: They got the quarterback right.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_05]: They went out and they got Sam Donald.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_05]: You look at those drafts kind of discouraging really from a dolphin fan standpoint.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_05]: Like, man, that's pretty hard to do what they've done and a team building sense the last four years.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_05]: You look at the Patriots.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_05]: Well, they're quarterbacks elite.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_05]: I don't get it.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_05]: Your thoughts Simon, on these two teams, how they got here, how they got built.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_05]: And your thoughts on those two rosters, how they were created.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think you just go back to from 20, 20 onwards with the sea horse and look at what Drone Schneider did and you know that they essentially you know solve the offensive line issues in that 20, 22 draft with Charles Cross and the first round and Abraham Lucas in the in the third.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_02]: And then what he does so well and has historically done so well and a sea horse of historically done so well it is make value picks on the late second and early mid early to late third
- 33:49[SPEAKER_02]: around to Boya and Maffa, who's been a good rotational defensive player, Kenneth Walker, obviously was taken in the second round and he's been an excellent running back.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_02]: But then you look at the Kobe Bryant's, Reak Orleans, already, you know, those two, you know, fifth round, Kobe Bryant, fourth round, Reak Orleans, fifth round, then you go to 2023, with Devon with the Spoon, one of the best corners of the league, Jackson Smith and Jeeper, I'll do the best receiver in the leagues, that's Shabalay in the second round.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_02]: Derek Hall rotational past Russia, you know, Mike Morris, who's played on the defensive line, are Oliver T. Me, who's backed up inside, you know, to make sure you fall, fire him there for you, one of the best underrated players in the entirely, one of the best defensive tackers in the league, you know, AJ Barnab, best blocking tight end pretty much in the league.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_02]: And then last year,
- 34:43[SPEAKER_02]: boom, you know, the kind of the NFC version of Carl Hamilton, Elijah Roya, who's playing well until he got her Jalen Milrose, you know, backed up, obviously Tory Houghton played really well, had some big touchdowns early in the season, he was Washington and returned touchdowns, got injured, but it's played well.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know,
- 35:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's just smart, sensible that they've worked the right positions, well, that's defensive back, well, that's, you know, the offensive line, well, that's the interior of the defensive line.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, making that deal last year, getting rid of Gina, spent bringing in Samdahls, has just made an absolute world of sense.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_02]: They're well coached, offensively, could be that there's a great job defensively marked with dogs, he didn't dare to do a great job.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a good team, it's run right away, and it's built perfectly.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_02]: And then with the Patriots, obviously,
- 35:29[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's the code, you come in, you look at the code, and you get the right call back, and then you just bring in, you know, they spent a shit ton of money, but they spent it the right way, meal and Williams, and that they shore up the offensive line, and they paid the right people, you know, they've got good receivers, that you're not outstanding receivers, but eggs has been made your place, can you show a boot taste and making plays?
- 35:48[SPEAKER_02]: They get enough juice out of the running game, I think, you know, and they're defensively, they can get off of the court back, they can play run.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_02]: So, and they've got a stud corner in Christian Gonzales.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_02]: So, they've been built the right way, and it also shows that it doesn't take much.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_02]: You have to get the court back right with the Patriots Chris, and they've got it right with Drake May.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, back in the back for hold on a second, Chris, back to back 4 and 13 seasons and they're in the Super Bowl right now before we go to you, Chris Simon, I was looking through everything Seattle did and that's what I was saying that was kind of discouraged like my god, this this fucking guy don't miss I did find one bone head decision.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_05]: Can you guess which one it was?
- 36:19[SPEAKER_05]: And it was during it was during that summer when they were playing musical linebackers.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_05]: Can you remember what it was during that summer when they were playing musical linebackers?
- 36:22[SPEAKER_05]: Can you remember what it was during that summer when they were playing musical linebackers?
- 36:25[SPEAKER_05]: Can you remember what it was during that summer when they were playing musical linebackers?
- 36:27[SPEAKER_05]: Can you remember what it was during that summer when they were playing musical linebackers?
- 36:30[SPEAKER_02]: Can you remember what it was during that summer when they were playing musical linebackers?
- 36:33[SPEAKER_05]: Can you remember what it was during that summer when they were playing musical linebackers?
- 36:35[SPEAKER_05]: Can you remember what it was during that summer when they were
- 36:38[SPEAKER_02]: Um, didn't they bring Pupi Wagnabak?
- 36:41[SPEAKER_05]: Sir, own Baker.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, Baker, yeah.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_03]: Well, also, and one of the things, you know, one of the things that is striking your bait and to me about Mike McDonald's coach is actually in that linebacker group when they had Tyrell dots and he was voted a team captain.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_03]: And they parted ways with him before the season was over.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_03]: Right, and that's how Miami ended up with Tyrell dots of right is he he had been a captain heading into that year with the sea hawks
- 37:14[SPEAKER_03]: but they cut them and they traded for Ernest Jones.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_03]: And it's just, you know, sort of, it speaks of, and I've seen that in several areas of the sea hawks, and it's just a coach who, you know, what's good enough for you might not be good enough for me, you know, like he knows what he needs to see and he's not going to settle.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think that that's one aspect of the sea hawks
- 37:44[SPEAKER_03]: I think the other aspect of all of this management that we're seeing here is we're seeing the seahawks, we'll get to the predictions later, but you mentioned Simon all of their drafts successes and they've had tremendous drafts successes, right?
- 38:01[SPEAKER_03]: And this is years building up to them, but you know the thing that they also did is they were also the third biggest
- 38:10[SPEAKER_03]: They were the third biggest, you know, number one was known on patrons.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_03]: Hi, so the so two out of the top three biggest spenders in free agency this year since last year Super Bowl are in the Super Bowl this year.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, in terms of team building and what matters and, you know, the draft picks versus the free agency and
- 38:32[SPEAKER_03]: and things like that.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_03]: What stands out to me is that the seahawks did it on both ends.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_03]: They have been drafting really well in building the core unit really well of that entire team, but also they have spent some money.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_03]: They have spent some money and to do this.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_03]: And so the, you know, the Patriots on the other hand,
- 38:56[SPEAKER_03]: I would say it's a little bit of a different road because while they have had some draft successes and I don't want to take a way from them and particularly look what they did a quarterback with Drake May and now he's an MVP candidate this year in a second year.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think that you can say that over the last say three years that it's been quite as strong.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_03]: of a drafting as the, as certainly not the 2024 results, you know, and, you know, 2023 and, and such, I don't think it's been as strong as the sea hawks, but they spent, uh, boatload of money.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_03]: So they, they spent, I think a total of, uh, the, the tracking that I saw was $365 million that they spent this year.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_03]: on free agents, in free agency, and so, you know, obviously not all of that can be expense this year right away.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_03]: So in terms of team building, you've got almost a situation which might resemble a little bit more what we have to do in Miami, which is they, they've been saying, John Eric Sullivan and everybody have been saying first, you got to get the quarterback.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_03]: They've been pretty clear on this.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_03]: But for all those people that want to build the lines and stuff like that, they have said first you got to get the quarterback multiple times right in their messages.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_03]: Well, the Patriots did that first they got the quarterback they got the quarterback last year when they sucked.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_03]: And Drake May has been in place and now they're they're getting to reap off of that in the second year But then the thing that they did is they had cleared their books and I know this because I do the debt I do the debt stuff with the the teams every year They had cleared their books to a tremendous degree to where they could head into free agency this year and they bought a team
- 40:44[SPEAKER_03]: And and I think that that is that is paying off for them.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_03]: So they got the quarterback and then they bought a team will see if that last or as stable as the C Hawks have done it because the C Hawks have built on draft successes and you know, maybe the Patriots just haven't had the time.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_03]: to do the same.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, I think that they are a little bit different and it is instructive for Miami because one of the things that people misunderstand about the Miami salary cap situation is once you get through this cap hell, so to speak, of 2020-26, what's on the other side of it?
- 41:21[SPEAKER_03]: People just think that on the other side of it is more cap hell, like you,
- 41:25[SPEAKER_03]: you can't sign players for multiple years.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_03]: You can't, you know, things like that.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_03]: You can't resign your own.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_03]: You're going to have to keep losing it.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_03]: No, actually, it's the opposite.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_03]: What's on the other side of this crucible of 2026 is a barren wasteland of no payroll and no players worth.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_03]: like that's that's the reason that Cap Hell is so bad in the first place is because when you get through it you're left with I mean look on the 2027 payroll once we get rid of guys like to and Bradley Chub's 23 million dollar payroll and you know and James Daniels has an 8 million dollar payroll for 2027 and we know that's not happening.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_03]: Once you get through that they have 67 million dollars worth of cash payroll for 2027 versus what will be probably a
- 42:13[SPEAKER_03]: So they're going to have to figure out how to spend $260 million dollars the dolphins in a year a year from now that's a challenge that is a challenge to get that many good players and figure out how to wisely spend that money and not do what John Eric Sullivan has talked about as he used the word treacherous
- 42:35[SPEAKER_03]: You know, to talk about relying too much on free agency and he's he's right about that.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_03]: It is treacherous.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_03]: You're you're hiring a bunch of mercenaries.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_03]: You're you're borrowing somebody else's culture.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_03]: You can't really, you know, it can be as he said treacherous.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_03]: So how do you go from where we are right now, which is, you know, going through this curseable where we have no capital to do anything in 2026.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_03]: are hardly anything.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_03]: And then on the other side of it, we have a desert of nobody to pay.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_03]: And we have to figure out, like, you know, there is a salary minimum, right?
- 43:11[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I've always obsessed with this salary cap and the maximum, but there is a salary minimum too.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_03]: So we will have the opposite problem.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_03]: So when people are like, oh, no, we can't, we can't possibly be a Malik Willis this year.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, well, we got to pay somebody.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_03]: Like, beyond 2026, we got to pay somebody.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_03]: We really do.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_03]: We got $67 million of payroll versus a $333 million budget.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_03]: You got to pay somebody, right?
- 43:40[SPEAKER_03]: So it's going to be an interesting problem.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_03]: And we might end up doing a lot like what the Patriots have done where they spent an enormous amount of money this year.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_03]: And it got them as Super Bowl.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_03]: Got them into the Super Bowl.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_05]: yeah let me let me also give some flowers to and this is a very rare i don't think this guy's ever gotten flowers from pretty much anybody but Josh McDaniel i heard it said he might be the best offensive coordinator in football history and before you giggle check the resume Chris because i did
- 44:14[SPEAKER_05]: There is no offensive coordinator in history with as many successes as Josh McDaniel has as far as top 10 offenses Super Bowl division crowns AFC championships like the guy the guy's trophy room is ridiculous.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_05]: It helps that he had Tom Brady for a thousand years But now he has Drake May and he's an MVP candidate.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_05]: So the one year he had Matt Castle Matt Castle had a monster year.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_05]: They want to love in games Josh McDaniel
- 44:44[SPEAKER_05]: One of the best offensive players on the street.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_02]: But also, I think you could say that Tom Brady was lucky to have Josh McDonough.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_03]: But then Tom Brady didn't win Super Bowl in Tampa, too.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, absolutely, but clearly McDonough is an offensive genius.
- 45:01[SPEAKER_03]: No, I agree.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_03]: He's a very good coach.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_03]: I think that he is, he operates one of the two denominations in the NFL right now as far as offensive stylers, the Shannon and thing.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_03]: with the West Coast offense derivative, and then there's also, you know, the old school, the New England style air-hard Perkins playbook, and that style.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_03]: And it's really come down to this war that's boiling up between, you know, pure progression reads.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_03]: And full field reads.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_03]: And so you see these guys talking about it and going out and going out after each other about it and Josh McDaniels is very much on the full field full field reads and in that style of playbook.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_03]: And actually I think that's where Malik Willis was drafted into.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_03]: was that that that style of offense and then when he went went over to the shanahan style that where he blossomed.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_03]: So you know you are seeing you're seeing those like Josh McKangels is at the forefront of an entire movement of offense.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_03]: So I'll give him his flowers that way.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's that's fair.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_03]: Although don't pay attention to what he did with the Rams.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, now if you look at some some Patriots like Patriots offensive history during the time that Josh McDaniel has been there, there have these little pockets of like shaky offense and it's usually where when Josh McDaniel's fading is is failing in Las Vegas or failing in Denver.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_05]: that he's gone from the equation, that their offense doesn't, it looks mere, you know, merely mortal.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_05]: But I'm going to give a lot of credit to coaching for these Patriots.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_05]: Vrable is, he just has that magic touch.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_05]: He just does.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_05]: Players relate to him.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_05]: He has an unmitigated, complete total asshole in Stefan Diggs, and he managed to get a monster season out of him.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_05]: This is the guy that went to Buffalo was unhappy on the number one offense with an MVP candidate.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_05]: I quarterback unhappy to the point where he forced his way out of there and to to the Texans.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_05]: Then he was unhappy again.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_05]: He's basically the James Harden of football.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_05]: And the guy just shows up in New England where the second year quarterback and Mike Frable has him under control.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_05]: And Stefan Tiggs has a monster season.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_05]: A monster season.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_05]: And on a dime, I think he's making what?
- 47:22[SPEAKER_05]: $19 million or something like that.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_05]: And I think he's going to make that again next year.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_05]: I think he has a two year deal.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_05]: So I'm going to give a little out of credit to coaching for the Patriots.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_05]: They got it.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_05]: And whatever they got, we got emulate.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_05]: Because at some point, it's not the Jimmy's in Joe's anymore.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_05]: It's just, they're coaching that is just insane.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_05]: Like it's, it never goes away, really, you know?
- 47:46[SPEAKER_05]: Bellachick.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_05]: And now we got variable in the division.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_05]: You know, thank God that the bills haven't figured it out because once the bills figure out that that, you know, they're coaching, you know, where the hell are we going to be moving on to, hopefully the AFC South is what is what I would hope for.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_05]: But yeah, coaching coaching is where I will give the credit to the patrons on this.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_05]: All right.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_05]: Let's talk about this game.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_05]: And we're going to do a brief breakdown of this when the Patriots have the ball, okay?
- 48:22[SPEAKER_05]: Everybody keeps talking about it, I don't know.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_05]: Seattle past rush.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_05]: I think it's really about staying on schedule.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_05]: If the Patriots are on schedule.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_05]: They're running the football on first down and Josh McDaniel has a rhythm.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_05]: This game's going to be close and there's nothing the Seahawks can do about it to be honest with you.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_05]: No matter how good the Seahawks are, they will coach their way into a close game in the fourth quarter because one thing you know about these Patriots is that you're going to make all the jokes about, hey, they faced 11 fired head coaches, that's a real step by the way.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_05]: And yeah, they played all these backup quarterbacks on all this, what's imperative is when they played good teams.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, they're one and two this year against playoff teams, but watch them in the playoffs.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_05]: Not only do they manage these games and dominate them really, but they're never really out of any game ever.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_05]: And that's this entire season, like the sample sizes, the entire season, they're extremely well coached.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_05]: They stay on schedule, you agree Simon?
- 49:19[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, it's going to be close.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_05]: There's no no chance of a blowout here, right?
- 49:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think the sea hoax will win and I'm not sold.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_02]: It will be close.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_02]: I think Seattle just have too much.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think offensively they have too much.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_02]: They can do so many things.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I think defensively for marked my daughter to have two weeks to prepare for a second year call
- 49:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think that what they can do in terms of past rush, the fact that they can get home before the interior pressure from Murphy, the lineback is a really good, the corners are really good and then the X factor which is Nicky Mammorey, you know, operating on that second level.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_02]: Is he a robber, is he a blitzer, is he a single high, is he covering down the slot, is he a overhang, is he a, you know,
- 50:08[SPEAKER_02]: alley running, strong safety.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_02]: I think they'll try and use Drake made legs and I think they'll use you know, warrior's a spy.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's a little under the radar kind of dump off passes that McDonald's has done such a great job of manufacturing when things are covered down the field.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think you know, warrior will play a huge role in that as well.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_02]: I could see it being not a blowout, but I could see Seattle winning by a couple of touchdowns.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_02]: Potentially, so I don't think he's cut and drive that it would be a close game.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_03]: Chris?
- 50:42[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think that, listen, if this weren't the Super Bowl, then I would say yes, not blow out, but comfortable win for the Seattle Seahawks.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_03]: I think for some reason, the Super Bowl when you get two weeks to study for the test and all the, the distraction, whether it's distractions, pageantry, whatever it is.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_03]: has a tendency to be a good game, I think, and so even when you think that it might not be.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_03]: So, there's that going for it, and Alpha Point is well made that the Patriots do have good coaching, and over this two weeks, that's going to matter.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_03]: the two weeks to prepare that matters.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_03]: But as we've talked about the Seattle Seahawks, our built, I think more soundly, and just more thoroughly along the roster every part of it, and so yeah, I would trust them to win the game by multiple scores normally.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, taking aside
- 51:44[SPEAKER_03]: whether the NFL script writers allow that to happen because because they want an entertaining Super Bowl.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_03]: But overall, I think you just, I know that it's been poo pooed on and I get it, but the Patriots did have a pretty easy schedule during the year.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_03]: You mentioned it in South and then they're kind of the way kind of opened up for them in the playoffs when
- 52:12[SPEAKER_03]: You know, Justin Herbert is kind of a notorious choker at this point in the playoffs and in those circumstances and then coming out of that Denver game, I'm not sure that.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_03]: Who could come out of that game?
- 52:29[SPEAKER_03]: It's really representative of who's the best in the AFC.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_03]: Who couldn't come out of a snowstorm I had by three points, you know, against Jared Stitham.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_03]: And that's, I'm sorry, I think this is when this clock would typically strike 12 on Cinderella here.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_05]: Now, let me, and this will be the last thing we talk about in this game before we actually pick it.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_05]: Now, let me give you the Patriots Case.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_05]: Christian Gonzalez, Jackson Smith and Jigba.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_05]: You could tend to trust them with a little help in man.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_05]: Patriots are going to play man.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_05]: Sam Donald's worst games have come against teams that predominantly play man.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_05]: And Sam Donald can easily turn into a pumpkin.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_05]: Are we to the point where we now just unequivocally trust Sam Donald implicitly going forward?
- 53:20[SPEAKER_05]: Or, Cody, because this Patriots defense has played really, really well.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_05]: for a very long time.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think Darn said one bad game in two seasons, realistically, and that was in the playoff last year for the Vikings and beyond that, I think it's played two seasons of pretty much a lead level football.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, with Kenneth Walker, with the tie ends, you know, Barnard, with Sawbert, with, you know, the receiving call, I got, I find it hard to think that he's not there, you know, do what he does.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_02]: And I think Christian does, I was just a great player,
- 53:56[SPEAKER_03]: they'll have too much got the game also and also Smith and Jigma will move to the slot quite frequently so Gonzalez won't go there unless the Patriots just whip out a whole new game plan which they've been known to do
- 54:10[SPEAKER_03]: to be fair in these super bowls, but unless they do, then I don't see Gonzales, you know, he can go up, Smith and Jacob can go and go into the slot upwards of 40, 45% of the time, sometimes.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_02]: Also, then in line in the backfield as well, yeah, which you know, a wrinkled as the seasons moved on.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_03]: So, and it's gonna be fun to see what kind of new wrinkles we see because, you know,
- 54:37[SPEAKER_03]: Think about the old Patriots, Super Bowl's like, you know, what's his name, Terrell Buckley being used to cover.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_03]: to cover Marshall Falk out of the backfield and things like that.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_03]: So we'll see, you know, what kind of things they come up with for Jackson, but, you know, it's not going to be the Gonzalo's versus Jackson show.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, the Rams came in November this year where he had the four picks and no, no touchdowns.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_05]: And they lost the Rams 2119.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_05]: That's the game that I was thinking about.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_05]: where the Rams play predominantly man and Donald really had a pitch of a time in that game.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_05]: Obviously, he's fixed it since because he's had two monster games because the Rams, but that was the game.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_05]: So I guess we don't have much of a fear there that Sand Donald's going to turn into a pumpkin, but yeah, that really it's like two games in two years that he's been bad.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_05]: So if it happens, it'll just come out of left field.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_05]: Time to pick the game.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_05]: I think the game's going to be really close.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_05]: I think San Donald will really play well.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_05]: I think Kenneth Walker could be MVP.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_05]: I think he could run for 100 yards.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_05]: And those of you out there like to put a couple of dollars down on something weird happening.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_05]: Can I interest you in a Shaheed MVP, but it's happened before where a kickoff for Turner has had a monster game and one NFL, one Super Bowl MVP happened with Desmond Howard and the Packers.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_05]: So put a little bit of something on that.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_05]: Could there be a special team's code?
- 56:11[SPEAKER_05]: There's score?
- 56:11[SPEAKER_05]: Possibly.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_05]: I think Kenneth Walker wins MVP.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_05]: I think it's a close game.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_05]: I think the C-Hox win 27, 24.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_05]: Let's say you
- 56:22[SPEAKER_02]: I said 3424 to the sea hoax.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_05]: And the MVP.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_02]: Smith and Jacob.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_03]: Chris.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm going to I'm going to say 24 21 should be a bigger, it should be a bigger score, but these super bowls have a way of working out that way.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_03]: And I think you're right about Sam Darnell.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_03]: They could he could struggle in this game.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_03]: He struggled against Brian Flores as defense and with Minnesota.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, it's similar defense, but Smith and Jigma will get the MVP.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that I think that the
- 56:55[SPEAKER_03]: should it should not be as close as it will be.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_03]: But I think it could end that way.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_05]: All right.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_05]: And we'll leave it there.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_05]: Next week, we will recap the Super Bowl.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_05]: And then we'll have like a one week hiatus as we prepare for season nine.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_05]: It's nine years of three yards per carry.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_05]: And then we're going to get leap into the weeds of the draft and the combine.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_05]: as we shepherd you through the of season and free agency because that's quickly approaching.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_05]: We are actually 40, let me see, is this right?
- 57:28[SPEAKER_05]: 48 days away from free agency.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_00]: But tell that.
- 57:46[UNKNOWN]: You
