- 0:26Speaker 1: sports podcast show in the world, over eleven and a
- 0:29Speaker 1: half years strong, and Week eighteen of this Philadelphia Eagles
- 0:33Speaker 1: twenty twenty four twenty twenty five season now in the books.
- 0:37Speaker 1: They beat the New York Giants in the final game
- 0:40Speaker 1: at the link by a score of twenty to thirteen.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Tanner McKee was the starting quarterback. We're gonna get into
- 0:47Speaker 1: this game, our themes from the game, as well as
- 0:50Speaker 1: grading each unit and the coaching. I am Jeff Warren
- 0:54Speaker 1: and I'm hearing my good buddy from the Honorable Mention Podcast.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Subscribe on YouTube and whatever podcast platform you're listening to
- 1:00Speaker 1: us on.
- 1:01Speaker 2: We've got the one and only Matt Rogers. Buddy.
- 1:03Speaker 1: It's good to talk to you and good to have
- 1:05Speaker 1: you on the pod here for this last Eagles regular
- 1:09Speaker 1: season game.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Man, thanks so much for jumping on.
- 1:12Speaker 3: I was just telling my son, of course, Jeff, always
- 1:14Speaker 3: great having you on my show, and always great to
- 1:18Speaker 3: be on your show. I was just telling my son
- 1:21Speaker 3: a second ago, like this is not normally how an
- 1:25Speaker 3: Eagles regular season ends, you know.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Back up.
- 1:30Speaker 3: You know, safety in a game that doesn't really matter
- 1:32Speaker 3: that much. But guys, you could tell, guys are still hitting,
- 1:34Speaker 3: still playing hard. They get a pick to end it,
- 1:36Speaker 3: beat a divisional rival, Pammela division rival who was actually
- 1:40Speaker 3: trying to win the game. Give Malik Nighbors doing a
- 1:43Speaker 3: lot of talk, oh, after a really great play, I
- 1:45Speaker 3: got to say, that's it, absolutely him. So that's how
- 1:48Speaker 3: I'm doing. I mean, fourteen and three. I think that's
- 1:51Speaker 3: ties of franchise record for most wins in a season.
- 1:55Speaker 3: I'm doing pretty good from this perspective. I feel great
- 1:58Speaker 3: for having me on.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Yeah, buddy, it's great, great having you on.
- 2:01Speaker 1: And before we kind of before we get into some themes,
- 2:04Speaker 1: obviously Week eighteen, there were a number of Eagles that
- 2:08Speaker 1: were not active in this game, a number of starters.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Those starters were Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, Davante Smith, Darius Slay,
- 2:17Speaker 1: aj Brown, to Kobe Dean, Zach Bonn, Lane Johnson, Jordan Mailatta,
- 2:22Speaker 1: Lyndon Dickerson, and Jalen Carter. So those were the inactives
- 2:26Speaker 1: for this game. I just wanted to throw that out
- 2:28Speaker 1: to folks before we dove into the themes, and really.
- 2:31Speaker 3: I think those are the people we we declared before
- 2:34Speaker 3: we came into Sunday, yes that they would not put
- 2:37Speaker 3: a jersey on those are those are our truly and
- 2:42Speaker 3: they've been disqualified from play essentially the game exactly. And
- 2:49Speaker 3: you know what, I were a lot of other guys
- 2:51Speaker 3: who who play for us but did not touch the
- 2:54Speaker 3: field today.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Absolutely, yes, very true.
- 2:57Speaker 1: In this game, I think from an overall picture standpoint,
- 3:00Speaker 1: the game really gave off vibes of.
- 3:02Speaker 2: A preseason type of game, Matt.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I mean, we were able to see just about all
- 3:07Speaker 1: the Eagles back up, some who will be trying to
- 3:09Speaker 1: make the team next year. And I thought it was
- 3:11Speaker 1: interesting the refs really were letting these guys play today.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Really didn't feel like a regular season game. Not too
- 3:18Speaker 1: many flags were thrown in this game, I mean until
- 3:21Speaker 1: the refs started having to throw flags on off sides
- 3:24Speaker 1: with the Giants and some of the ridiculous stuff that
- 3:27Speaker 1: the New York Giants were doing on both sides of
- 3:29Speaker 1: the ball. But that being said, it was like a
- 3:31Speaker 1: preseason game and I really enjoyed.
- 3:32Speaker 2: It, man, I liked it.
- 3:35Speaker 3: And elite neighbors to he is going to be somebody
- 3:39Speaker 3: to be watched for a few years. Absolutely, absolutely because
- 3:43Speaker 3: because Drew Lock suck today. I mean it was terrible, Yes,
- 3:48Speaker 3: legitimately bad NFL quarterback play.
- 3:51Speaker 2: He was, he absolutely was.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Well, let's talk about the other quarterback, Tanner McKee, for
- 3:56Speaker 1: the Eagles perspective and within this Eagle offense. I mean,
- 4:01Speaker 1: early in this game, it looked like Tanner McKee should
- 4:04Speaker 1: be the backup quarterback of this Eagles team in the future.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Quite frankly, his opening drive he went three of three
- 4:11Speaker 1: for forty eight yards in a touchdown. Not to mention,
- 4:14Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, Matt, we saw so many rollouts,
- 4:17Speaker 1: so much play action throughout.
- 4:18Speaker 2: This game with McKee.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I mean, this is something that so many of us
- 4:22Speaker 1: have actually wanted Jalen Hurts, the Jalen Hurts offense to
- 4:26Speaker 1: do for a lot of the season that we didn't
- 4:29Speaker 1: see too much. I thought that was an interesting takeaway,
- 4:32Speaker 1: at least from the Tanner McKee perspective. And maybe it's
- 4:34Speaker 1: just a strength of his And in fact, Tanner McKee
- 4:38Speaker 1: had one hundred and ninety yards in the first half
- 4:39Speaker 1: of the game. It was the most passing yards in
- 4:42Speaker 1: a half by an Eagles quarterback this season over, he
- 4:45Speaker 1: went seventeen to twenty six in that first half there
- 4:50Speaker 1: so on his second touchdown drive of the game in
- 4:52Speaker 1: the fourth quarter, he was perfect five for five fifty
- 4:55Speaker 1: yards through a nice touchdown to EJ. Jenkins, who had
- 4:58Speaker 1: a great catch. It leads me believe, Matt that if
- 5:01Speaker 1: McKee came in as the backup during the Commander's game
- 5:04Speaker 1: from a couple of weeks ago, the Eagles possibly could
- 5:07Speaker 1: have won that game instead of having Kenny Pickett under center.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I don't know, just the thought that I.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Had Kenny, you know, I don't know. If I was
- 5:14Speaker 3: on after that game, I would get Kenny in that game.
- 5:17Speaker 2: A B.
- 5:18Speaker 3: What would you with retroactive great? What did I give
- 5:20Speaker 3: that game? I think I actually think I gave him
- 5:23Speaker 3: a B or a B plus To be honest, I
- 5:25Speaker 3: think I did. It was Yeah, pretty good Tanner. I
- 5:28Speaker 3: think the thing with Tanner he wasn't perfect tall. Yeah,
- 5:32Speaker 3: thrower of football. Tanner is a better thrower of football.
- 5:35Speaker 3: But you saw it in the second half, and you
- 5:37Speaker 3: saw it at a certain point, just like this guy
- 5:39Speaker 3: because he hasn't seen NFL level you know, complex defense,
- 5:42Speaker 3: zone blitz man, blitz uh you know, fake it back out.
- 5:46Speaker 3: I mean that kind of stuff. Will He gives the
- 5:49Speaker 3: best of quarterbacks to ever play. Tom Brady gives them fits.
- 5:53Speaker 3: I mean you start playing with the pressure, and so
- 5:56Speaker 3: Tanner hasn't seen enough of that yet. I think that's
- 5:58Speaker 3: why the Eagles are more comfortable with Kenny as the backup,
- 6:02Speaker 3: because he's played, he's been under fire, he's been whacked
- 6:05Speaker 3: by Miles Garrett and all these other guys.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yeah, what you're saying makes sense up the football. Yeah,
- 6:11Speaker 2: it's fair. Fair with Tanner.
- 6:13Speaker 3: You throw them in there against Tampa Bay or whatever
- 6:16Speaker 3: something that you get a you know, forty five to three,
- 6:20Speaker 3: Tanner by to pick sixes and you know, oh but
- 6:24Speaker 3: he played well yeah, yeah he couldn't. But it's tough.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I still feel more comfortable, Just for the record, I
- 6:30Speaker 3: just feel more comfortable with Kenny, just because I know
- 6:33Speaker 3: what I'm getting with Kenny.
- 6:34Speaker 2: I got you.
- 6:34Speaker 3: I want to continue to bring. Maybe next year, maybe
- 6:37Speaker 3: they can get some for Kenny. Now, maybe Kenny made
- 6:39Speaker 3: himself some funny Yeah, some some money. Sorry, not funny,
- 6:43Speaker 3: not funny. Money's funny, not funny, mundy real money, Kenny. Uh.
- 6:52Speaker 1: But really it was an interesting It's an interesting thought
- 6:55Speaker 1: process too of what the backup quarterback position means to
- 6:58Speaker 1: this Eagles team. We know the backup position is really
- 7:01Speaker 1: important to Howie Roseman in the front office, and especially
- 7:04Speaker 1: after that Super Bowl win where Nick Foles really really
- 7:07Speaker 1: took over in the playoffs, this team understands the backup
- 7:12Speaker 1: quarterback is so important to this team, especially when you
- 7:15Speaker 1: have Jalen Hurts not only going out with the concussion
- 7:18Speaker 1: but also nursing a broken finger on his on his
- 7:22Speaker 1: i think his left hand that he has going on
- 7:24Speaker 1: right now, and really to have a competent quarterback in
- 7:27Speaker 1: Tanner McKee or even Kenny Pickett having the opportunity to
- 7:31Speaker 1: play a professional football team like like Tanner McKee did
- 7:36Speaker 1: today with the New York Giants going up against their
- 7:38Speaker 1: number ones for just about most of the game and
- 7:41Speaker 1: they come out on top, there's something to be said
- 7:42Speaker 1: for that.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Matt oh, Yeah, absolutely.
- 7:45Speaker 3: While the city of aj Feely and Jeff Garcia and
- 7:49Speaker 3: Nick Foles, yes, should should should know a thing or
- 7:52Speaker 3: two about the backup quarterback. So I'm certain that in
- 7:56Speaker 3: the at the training facility that they're very keen on that.
- 8:01Speaker 3: And then and they're a great position. I mean, there's
- 8:04Speaker 3: there's not likely to be. And this is why I
- 8:06Speaker 3: hate to throw astray and not to take up too
- 8:08Speaker 3: much of your time. No. No, you got to the
- 8:09Speaker 3: forty nine Ers NFC Championship game where guys' bodies weren't
- 8:14Speaker 3: making it, And that happens in football.
- 8:16Speaker 2: It does.
- 8:16Speaker 3: You have to have multiple dressed quarterbacks who can freaking
- 8:20Speaker 3: play right. And so this idea that that's not like,
- 8:23Speaker 3: that's some kind of unforeseen consequence that the guy that
- 8:26Speaker 3: people pay hundreds of millions of dollars to like multiple guys. Yeah,
- 8:30Speaker 3: build fronts and corners to stop the receivers for long
- 8:34Speaker 3: enough to give the the DNS three four seconds to
- 8:38Speaker 3: get to the quarterback. Yeah, they're gonna hit the quarterbacks
- 8:41Speaker 3: and it will happen that they go out of the games.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Absolutely, have three.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Guys who could give you in a playoff game maybe
- 8:49Speaker 3: C minus level football. I think from across the board
- 8:52Speaker 3: from the Eagles quarterbacks, it's pretty impressive. I don't think
- 8:55Speaker 3: you can say that for most football teams most years exactly.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Look, it's it's it's a good situation. I think that
- 9:01Speaker 1: the Eagles are in terms of their backup quarterback situation.
- 9:03Speaker 1: We certainly saw it in this game again where the
- 9:06Speaker 1: Eagles win twenty to thirteen, playing a lot of their
- 9:10Speaker 1: backups and a lot of their third string guys, especially
- 9:13Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter, and they were actually able to
- 9:15Speaker 1: put a few points on the board because of that.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Moving along with a theme real quick, before we get
- 9:20Speaker 1: into the grades and before we get into what this
- 9:22Speaker 1: playoff picture may potentially look like for the Eagles, Matt,
- 9:26Speaker 1: I really wanted to see what some of the quote
- 9:28Speaker 1: backups and some of the guys we just really haven't
- 9:30Speaker 1: been able to see too much or haven't done much
- 9:32Speaker 1: this season, see how they were gonna leave their mark
- 9:34Speaker 1: in this game. And first and foremost, I want to
- 9:37Speaker 1: give a shout out to one Johan Dotson. Eleven targets
- 9:42Speaker 1: on the day, came down with seven balls for ninety
- 9:45Speaker 1: four yards thirteen point four yards per reception. It was
- 9:49Speaker 1: really nice to see because you go this entire season
- 9:52Speaker 1: and me is a Penn State guy, knowing the talent
- 9:55Speaker 1: that he has, knowing his route running ability, and going
- 9:58Speaker 1: up against the New York Giants for string team, they're starters,
- 10:02Speaker 1: and he had a lot of success in this game.
- 10:04Speaker 1: And I really think in question why the Philadelphia Eagles
- 10:09Speaker 1: offense hasn't included him more within their offensive game plan
- 10:12Speaker 1: throughout the season, especially when they gave up a third
- 10:15Speaker 1: round pick for him ninety four yards on the day.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I loved seeing it. Of course, AJ Brown and Devonte
- 10:21Speaker 1: Smith were not on the field, as they mentioned earlier
- 10:23Speaker 1: as part of the inactive group, but I loved seeing
- 10:26Speaker 1: what Johanna Dotson was able to do in this game.
- 10:28Speaker 1: I don't know, do you have any thoughts on John.
- 10:32Speaker 3: He's gonna need to make a play if the Eagles
- 10:33Speaker 3: are gonna go where they need to go.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good point.
- 10:38Speaker 3: It's not gonna teams are gonna figure out a way
- 10:40Speaker 3: to a certain degree bottle up Saquon, Devonte Aj. It
- 10:45Speaker 3: could be Dallas, but I you know, I've made my
- 10:47Speaker 3: my my thoughts hurt. I think Dallas is a good player,
- 10:50Speaker 3: not a not an all pro level player, very good player,
- 10:54Speaker 3: but whose body is not always with him, and so
- 10:59Speaker 3: he may go out of a game for a period
- 11:01Speaker 3: of the game or the whole game and be out.
- 11:03Speaker 3: So it's gonna beat need to be And I'm is
- 11:06Speaker 3: it gonna be Grant who makes a key play? Is
- 11:08Speaker 3: it gonna be Kenny or is it gonna be Johann Dotson,
- 11:11Speaker 3: And it very well could be.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Will need to be one of them.
- 11:15Speaker 3: It's not just gonna be Saquon Davonte aj Get.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think it's yeah. No, I agree with
- 11:22Speaker 1: you too. Another gentleman that I really wanted to see
- 11:24Speaker 1: get some playing time, and I wasn't sure if we
- 11:26Speaker 1: were gonna see him because we were seeing a lot
- 11:28Speaker 1: of Kenny Gainwell. But I wanted to see what Will
- 11:32Speaker 1: Shipley was gonna do in this game if he got
- 11:35Speaker 1: in from a rushing perspective, because look, Kenny Gamewell, he's
- 11:38Speaker 1: gonna be an unrestricted free agent after the season. I
- 11:40Speaker 1: would imagine he would potentially be moving on to another
- 11:44Speaker 1: team if another team did find him valuable. Who knows,
- 11:46Speaker 1: maybe the Eagles will resign him if he doesn't find
- 11:50Speaker 1: something out on the open market. But with regard to
- 11:52Speaker 1: Will Shipley didn't have the greatest stats in the world.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Ten carries thirty two yards average three point two yards
- 11:59Speaker 1: per care. But there were there was some little sparks
- 12:03Speaker 1: here and there from Will Shipley where I said, you
- 12:05Speaker 1: know what if he gets playing time, if he actually
- 12:07Speaker 1: gets on the field every now and again. Perhaps he
- 12:10Speaker 1: could be that that change of pace running back. I'm
- 12:13Speaker 1: not sure. I wanted to get your thoughts on that,
- 12:15Speaker 1: but I was really happy to see will Shipley getting
- 12:17Speaker 1: out there and actually making a contribution when he had
- 12:20Speaker 1: his long run of seven yards on the day. He
- 12:22Speaker 1: had some good runs. He was able to hit some
- 12:24Speaker 1: of those gaps the way that he needed to, and
- 12:26Speaker 1: it was I actually enjoyed watching the guy out there,
- 12:30Speaker 1: even though he only had thirty two yards on the day.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Do you have any thoughts, Matt.
- 12:34Speaker 3: He was very preseason running back.
- 12:36Speaker 4: I mean I got a se.
- 12:40Speaker 2: It was.
- 12:42Speaker 3: My eyes hurt sometimes after some of those runs from
- 12:45Speaker 3: willship To be honest, your unimpressed, yeah, very unimpressed with
- 12:52Speaker 3: what I saw from will Shipley. I saw a lot
- 12:54Speaker 3: of good throws from Tanner. I saw a lot of
- 12:56Speaker 3: good routes. Yeah, all was caught, and I mean Shipley
- 13:00Speaker 3: made a couple of guys miss. But is very clear
- 13:03Speaker 3: I don't he does not possess elite NFL speed or
- 13:07Speaker 3: even great NFL speed.
- 13:09Speaker 2: He's I mean, you.
- 13:11Speaker 3: In your in your the prelude to our talk right
- 13:15Speaker 3: here about about Will Shipley, you said with his long
- 13:19Speaker 3: run of the day of seven seven yards.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Yes, I.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Know, I was so looking forward to him, and really
- 13:28Speaker 1: it was it was I don't know. I've always been
- 13:30Speaker 1: rooting for the guy for whatever reason, I've always led
- 13:33Speaker 1: for the guy.
- 13:33Speaker 3: But but not but after today, I can't.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I always root for those guys, the fourth round picks, fourth, fifth, sixth,
- 13:40Speaker 1: seventh round picks.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Man, Yeah, I always root for those guys.
- 13:44Speaker 1: That being said, Matt, do you have any other themes
- 13:47Speaker 1: from this game that you that you really want to
- 13:49Speaker 1: get into before we take a break and before we
- 13:51Speaker 1: get to our grades from this game and really talk
- 13:53Speaker 1: about what these playoffs are going to look like for
- 13:55Speaker 1: this Philadelphia Eagles team.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Health health, health. I don't think anybody even went out
- 13:59Speaker 3: of this game with an injury today.
- 14:01Speaker 1: You're absolutely correct, nobody injured. That's a great thing, even
- 14:04Speaker 1: from a batup perspective.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Right because you send in the guys, you you you're
- 14:10Speaker 3: still gonna need some of these bodies. You only get
- 14:12Speaker 3: to have fifty three, So yeah, you know, you you
- 14:14Speaker 3: hope that these guys are depth guys. If you're if
- 14:17Speaker 3: your top guys go out in the playoffs or something
- 14:19Speaker 3: like that you're gonna call on these next level guys.
- 14:22Speaker 3: And none of these guys went down with anything today.
- 14:25Speaker 3: So health health Health, that's that's fantastic. Uh they they
- 14:29Speaker 3: Now it'll be about guys making plays. Yeah, absolutely, throwing
- 14:33Speaker 3: it up. And it's next Sunday and it's gonna looking
- 14:36Speaker 3: like it's gonna uh a more theme. Looks like it's
- 14:39Speaker 3: gonna be the Packers.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Packers.
- 14:41Speaker 3: The Packers lost today. Uh so that just seals that
- 14:44Speaker 3: at that thing up automatically.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it absolutely does.
- 14:48Speaker 1: And uh yeah, what what happened with the Washington They're fine,
- 14:51Speaker 1: They ended up winning. They beat the Dallas Cowboys by
- 14:54Speaker 1: score twenty three to nineteen. Green Bay losing to.
- 14:58Speaker 3: The Chery at nineteen.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's Chicago and that was with Marcus
- 15:03Speaker 1: Mariota starting for Washington. Chicago beats the Green Bay twenty
- 15:07Speaker 1: four to twenty two. So, man, Green Bay is gonna
- 15:11Speaker 1: be reeling after that. But I just wanted to say
- 15:12Speaker 1: Jalo's hands hurting right, Yes it is. Yeah, Yes, went
- 15:17Speaker 1: out with the injury. Christian Watson went out with a
- 15:20Speaker 1: knee injury. We'll have to keep tabs on that throughout
- 15:22Speaker 1: the week. But before we go to break.
- 15:24Speaker 3: We will keep tabs, Yes, will keeps.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Yes, but before going to break, check in on it. Oh, yes,
- 15:31Speaker 2: we'll check in on him, check.
- 15:32Speaker 1: In on him every now and then. The New York
- 15:36Speaker 1: Giants are just a bad football team, Matt. I had
- 15:38Speaker 1: to say it.
- 15:38Speaker 3: I wanted to say it right before we lost to
- 15:40Speaker 3: Tanna McKee. Jack. They freaking lost to Tanna McKee. Yeah,
- 15:44Speaker 3: that just says it all. It does so, but it's
- 15:47Speaker 3: always so fun talking with you, So please let's not
- 15:50Speaker 3: but they freaking lost it Tanna McKee. Yes, and guys,
- 15:53Speaker 3: fucking sh yes exactly.
- 15:56Speaker 2: We can swear too if we want. That's all right,
- 15:58Speaker 2: we can do explicit. But yeah, so I went with
- 16:02Speaker 2: that one. We're having a great time here, all right, folks.
- 16:05Speaker 2: We're gonna take a quick break to pay some bills.
- 16:07Speaker 2: We'll be back in just a bit with our grades.
- 16:10Speaker 1: All right, we are back, and again we're with our
- 16:12Speaker 1: good friend Matt Rodgers from the Honorable mentioned podcast. Subscribe
- 16:15Speaker 1: on YouTube and listen on whatever podcast platform you're listening
- 16:18Speaker 1: to us on a lot of great content always over
- 16:20Speaker 1: at the Honorable Mentioned Podcast. Let's get into grades. Grading
- 16:24Speaker 1: the quarterback. I'm gonna give Tanner McKee a B plus
- 16:26Speaker 1: this week, which is not perfect by any stretch, but
- 16:29Speaker 1: a third string quarterback being able to go up against
- 16:33Speaker 1: upon a curve B plus. Okay, curve B plus, I'm
- 16:36Speaker 1: giving them. I'm giving them a B plus. I mean
- 16:39Speaker 1: Jalen would be a D miter. Oh absolutely, geez, two
- 16:44Speaker 1: very different quarterbacks. I think I've given Tanner McKee a
- 16:48Speaker 1: B plus this week for what he did.
- 16:50Speaker 2: He took him back.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Look, he went against a he went against a professional
- 16:54Speaker 1: football team. Weather number one defensive starters on the fields
- 16:57Speaker 1: beat him.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Hey, ostensibly they're a professional team.
- 17:00Speaker 2: We have to fact check that, Jeff, Yes, yes, who
- 17:05Speaker 2: knows what they are. We'll be back. We'll look into that.
- 17:08Speaker 2: What great do you give Tanner McKee this week?
- 17:10Speaker 3: Buddy, Ah, you've influenced me up.
- 17:16Speaker 1: I'll give him a B minus. And but for the record,
- 17:19Speaker 1: it's going to curve. Okay, there you go on a curve.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Let's move to the running backs. We saw a lot
- 17:24Speaker 1: of Kenny gain Well eleven carries for fourteen yards one
- 17:28Speaker 1: point three yards per carry. We also saw Will Shipley
- 17:31Speaker 1: and there, as I mentioned earlier, ten carries for thirty
- 17:34Speaker 1: two yards and it was only a total of fifty
- 17:37Speaker 1: one total yards rushing. Nice Smith got in there for
- 17:40Speaker 1: a carry, and Tanner ended up carrying the ball a
- 17:44Speaker 1: few times as well, only fifty one total yards from
- 17:47Speaker 1: the running from the rushing attack, if you want to
- 17:49Speaker 1: call it an attack. But I'm gonna give the running
- 17:52Speaker 1: backs this week a C minus. What do you give them, buddy?
- 17:55Speaker 3: Hell? No, hell nog Jeff as well. No, they have
- 18:01Speaker 3: to go to summer school. They didn't completely fail the
- 18:04Speaker 3: test where they must do the grade over the class
- 18:07Speaker 3: where they must do there. You are coming into summer school, though,
- 18:10Speaker 3: and don't come to summer school. You're'll be doing this class,
- 18:13Speaker 3: this whole thing again. You guys were That was bad.
- 18:17Speaker 3: The running backs weren't great.
- 18:19Speaker 2: This was bad.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Fifty one yards Jeff, Yeah, fifty one.
- 18:25Speaker 1: It was surprising from Kenny Kenneth Gainwell, to be honest
- 18:27Speaker 1: with you, averaging one point three yards per carry. There
- 18:29Speaker 1: were way too many times when he was getting locked
- 18:32Speaker 1: up behind the line of scrimmage.
- 18:34Speaker 2: He's a four.
- 18:35Speaker 1: This is his fourth year in the league. You gotta
- 18:37Speaker 1: know better than that. And I would expect him, I
- 18:40Speaker 1: honestly would was expecting him to get at least fifty
- 18:43Speaker 1: yards in this game himself being a veteran and playing
- 18:47Speaker 1: with the second team as often as he has, especially
- 18:50Speaker 1: during practice, it was disappointing. That's how I'm going. Maybe
- 18:53Speaker 1: I should go with a D plus, but I hate
- 18:55Speaker 1: saying the word plus. Maybe just give him a D.
- 18:57Speaker 1: But I'm gonna go see minus for the running back
- 19:01Speaker 1: ken he gave you.
- 19:03Speaker 3: You're still in the Christmas spirit.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I am the team's fourteen and three. I'm happy overall.
- 19:10Speaker 3: I'm not too upset myself.
- 19:12Speaker 2: So great. What grade did you give him?
- 19:15Speaker 3: Did you give him a grade summer a summer school half?
- 19:19Speaker 3: So a DNUS minus minus.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Money alright, sounds good. I love it, alright.
- 19:25Speaker 1: The receivers and a lot of this, again is because
- 19:28Speaker 1: of Johan Dotson. What's what I said earlier? Eleven targets,
- 19:31Speaker 1: coming down with seven balls for ninety four yards Dallas Goddard.
- 19:34Speaker 1: The coaching staff said they wanted to get some of
- 19:36Speaker 1: the rust off him since he was just activated from
- 19:39Speaker 1: the ir and he he had six targets, came down
- 19:43Speaker 1: with four balls for fifty five yards. He averaged thirteen
- 19:45Speaker 1: point eight yards per reception. Nia Smith was targeted six times.
- 19:49Speaker 1: He came down with four balls for thirty thirty five yards.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Johnny Wilson targeted five times, he came down with three
- 19:56Speaker 1: balls for twenty four yards. A few other catches here
- 19:59Speaker 1: and there.
- 19:59Speaker 2: We've been E. J.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Jenkins and his touchdown reception for seven yards earlier. I'm
- 20:04Speaker 1: gonna give the receivers and tight ends overall, I'm gonna
- 20:06Speaker 1: give them a B this week, straight up beat.
- 20:08Speaker 2: What do you give them?
- 20:09Speaker 3: The tanner and the receiver in the backup receivers they carried.
- 20:14Speaker 2: The O line.
- 20:15Speaker 3: I'm gonna prelude that it wasn't great. No, the running
- 20:19Speaker 3: backs were not great. It was it was those guys.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Great job on that scout team. They developed some chemistry.
- 20:25Speaker 3: I mean, he's just letting it go. Guys are are
- 20:28Speaker 3: where they're supposed to be. Very good job by them.
- 20:31Speaker 3: I will sponsor.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I will say, as we moved to the offensive line
- 20:34Speaker 1: and that grade rate, Now, Matt, I will say, you
- 20:36Speaker 1: talked about how the offensive line wasn't great. I think
- 20:39Speaker 1: we saw the fourth quarter offensive line. Third quarter offensive
- 20:43Speaker 1: line really crap in the bed a lot.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:46Speaker 1: I mean you had a lot of third stringers in there.
- 20:48Speaker 1: But I have to say the first two quarters. The
- 20:50Speaker 1: offensive line didn't perform horribly at least from a pass
- 20:53Speaker 1: pro standpoint. In the rushing game, not great at all.
- 20:57Speaker 1: But from an overall standpoint, that's what we're grading here.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I'm giving the offensive line.
- 21:00Speaker 2: A C this week. What do you give them?
- 21:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's not It wasn't summer school.
- 21:05Speaker 2: It wasn't that. No, I don't think sad.
- 21:07Speaker 3: No, no, no, no no, But but it wasn't. It
- 21:11Speaker 3: wasn't dominant, it was it was passable. Yeah, it was
- 21:15Speaker 3: passable offensive line play in the NFL.
- 21:17Speaker 1: I gotta tell you right now, I think that I
- 21:19Speaker 1: think a team like the Cleveland Browns or even the
- 21:24Speaker 1: Cincinnati Bengals who struggle on the offensive line, I think
- 21:27Speaker 1: they would have loved to have had the Eagles second
- 21:29Speaker 1: stringers out there in terms of if they had the
- 21:32Speaker 1: Eagles second string Yeah, yeah, So all right, well let's
- 21:36Speaker 1: move the other side of the ball, the defensive line again.
- 21:39Speaker 1: You know, we saw a decent amount of Jordan Davis
- 21:42Speaker 1: for sure, but uh, we saw some other folks, you know,
- 21:46Speaker 1: getting some getting some time. We're certainly gonna get the linebackers.
- 21:48Speaker 1: I'll be talking about Jeremiah Trotter in just a bit,
- 21:51Speaker 1: but uh, I'm gonna give the the defensive line. I'm
- 21:54Speaker 1: gonna give them a B minus I think, And and
- 21:57Speaker 1: where that comes from is yes. Overall, they gave up
- 22:01Speaker 1: one hundred yards rushing today four yards per carry total
- 22:06Speaker 1: Tyrone Tracy he only had fifty nine yards on the
- 22:09Speaker 1: day average four point two yards per carry on fourteen carries.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Devin Singletary only carried the ball seven times for twenty
- 22:15Speaker 1: two yards. That being said, I think with a lot
- 22:18Speaker 1: of the backups in there, they did a decent job.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I mean, I'm gonna give him a B minus. What
- 22:22Speaker 2: do you give the defensive line?
- 22:24Speaker 3: I agree with that, I think especially these are one
- 22:27Speaker 3: of these that you do have to grade on a curve.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Like the offensive line. Yeah, that was a starting offensive line.
- 22:33Speaker 3: I would have said the grade was way worse. So
- 22:35Speaker 3: the same kind of thing. These things continue to be
- 22:37Speaker 3: on a curve, and yep, to be in moments just
- 22:41Speaker 3: manhandling their team.
- 22:44Speaker 2: It was impressive.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Moral Jemo, a bunch of those guys playing really well.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Guys.
- 22:49Speaker 3: They were just flat out not saying their names right
- 22:51Speaker 3: because nobody has seen them exactly.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Somebody said Ojomo's name and it was just ojom ojumo
- 22:58Speaker 1: or something like that, a Jima something.
- 23:02Speaker 3: It was just flat out wrong. And then they also said,
- 23:05Speaker 3: since we're fact checking, I guess we got into pact
- 23:07Speaker 3: checking of the broadcast. They said that they said that
- 23:10Speaker 3: Zach Bond usually wears the green dot, and hey, I'm
- 23:13Speaker 3: not on TV, but I'm saying if I was on
- 23:15Speaker 3: TV and I said who usually wears the green dot,
- 23:18Speaker 3: I would have had the correct answer, because the correct
- 23:20Speaker 3: answer isn't.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Exactly So it's I have learned, especially in the podcast world.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Here a little bit more about the quote broadcasting aspect
- 23:31Speaker 1: of life and sports life. The amount of screw ups
- 23:35Speaker 1: that broadcasters have from game to game at times, it
- 23:38Speaker 1: depends on the crew, of course, but I am telling
- 23:40Speaker 1: you right now, whether it's baseball broadcasters or football broadcasters,
- 23:44Speaker 1: the amount of folks behind a microphone in their home
- 23:47Speaker 1: who do podcasts they can do a better job than
- 23:49Speaker 1: some of these folks is astounding. It's astounding, Like it
- 23:54Speaker 1: amazes me time and time again that you have these yahoos. Anyway,
- 23:57Speaker 1: I could go on and on about that, but let's
- 24:00Speaker 1: grade the linebackers here that.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Because Ian backers today Oran and oh, do you want
- 24:05Speaker 3: to go first.
- 24:06Speaker 1: No, No, go ahead, Why don't you go first? Because
- 24:08Speaker 1: I I just wanted to say really quick. Jeremiah Trotter
- 24:10Speaker 1: Junior was definitely a presence in this game on defense.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I always loved his pursuit to the ball. He wasn't perfect,
- 24:18Speaker 1: there were some tackles he certainly missed. Were at a
- 24:20Speaker 1: position every now and again, But from an overall consistency standpoint,
- 24:25Speaker 1: him getting played, he gets more playing time at some
- 24:27Speaker 1: point in the future and continues to develop more. He's
- 24:30Speaker 1: going to be a decent linebacker in this league.
- 24:32Speaker 3: I think I'm going with the promising C plus Jeck.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that I was gonna go with B
- 24:38Speaker 1: minus for the linebackers.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Actually same range. Really, I mean, I saw I'm worried
- 24:44Speaker 3: about and I hate to put this out there, but
- 24:47Speaker 3: since we're just analyzing the game and stuff, I'm worried
- 24:51Speaker 3: about Oron Burke's having.
- 24:52Speaker 2: To play too much.
- 24:53Speaker 3: I'm seeing him whiffing.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Yes, lot, there was a lot of whiffs today.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Yes, there were news to whip as well. Yes, yes,
- 25:01Speaker 1: Sidney Brown, Well that's gonna get to it. We're gonna
- 25:03Speaker 1: get to the secondary in just a bit here. Well,
- 25:06Speaker 1: why don't we just go with the secondary because I
- 25:09Speaker 1: think we saw some good things and we didn't and we.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Saw So what did you give the linebackers? I'm sorry,
- 25:13Speaker 3: I gave them a B minus. Actually be minus B minus, Okay,
- 25:17Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 25:18Speaker 2: I think again.
- 25:19Speaker 1: I think when you have a lot of your second
- 25:21Speaker 1: string guys out there, your backup players, who are again
- 25:25Speaker 1: going against an offense that, yes, there's a Drew Locke
- 25:29Speaker 1: is the starting quarterback, but you have Malik Neighbors. You know,
- 25:32Speaker 1: he held him for sixty four yards, but his long
- 25:36Speaker 1: on the day was forty five yards. That touchdown reception
- 25:39Speaker 1: where Tristan McCollum he completely whiffed in terms of that tackle.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Pak probably shouldn't have had that touchdown. But Wandell Robinson
- 25:47Speaker 1: had forty three yards.
- 25:49Speaker 2: And you know.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Daniel Bellinger, who we talked about an Opposition Territory podcast
- 25:54Speaker 1: this past week as a possible you know, sleeper in
- 25:56Speaker 1: this game, guy had two catches for nine yards. Like
- 25:59Speaker 1: it's just it's not a great offensive unit, of course,
- 26:03Speaker 1: but a lot of the backups ended up, you know,
- 26:06Speaker 1: you know, taking care of business for this Eagles defense.
- 26:09Speaker 2: That's why I give him a B minus.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I can, yeah, Yeah. They they're in the right place.
- 26:16Speaker 3: They're just not wrapping up Tristan and Avante, Yeah, and
- 26:22Speaker 3: Sydney Brown, they're just flying in like a missile. Yes,
- 26:25Speaker 3: And they're gonna need to wrap up because they're they're not.
- 26:29Speaker 4: You know, they're not bringing enough. You know, they got
- 26:32Speaker 4: to bring the weight jacket that they need to wear.
- 26:33Speaker 4: I love the intensity, Yeah, I love the intensity. You
- 26:37Speaker 4: guys just don't got to finish exactly. You gotta You're
- 26:40Speaker 4: not big enough to be going in like your Brian Dawkins.
- 26:43Speaker 3: You need to go in there, hold the guy up
- 26:45Speaker 3: for a second, half a second for your other teammate
- 26:48Speaker 3: to come and get him. You're not big enough to
- 26:50Speaker 3: just light guys up. And I think the uh, you know,
- 26:53Speaker 3: there's those moments in sports where you just have to
- 26:56Speaker 3: have a reality check with who you are.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Video game, So what do you what do you give them?
- 27:02Speaker 2: What do you give the the secondary? Did you give them? Agreed?
- 27:05Speaker 3: I agree with the B minus A good gree Okay,
- 27:09Speaker 3: sounds good.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Well let's move to the coaching.
- 27:11Speaker 1: We're gonna start off with how this special teams look. Boy,
- 27:14Speaker 1: bradon Man not great at kickoffs. Jake Elliot missed his
- 27:17Speaker 1: first field goal of the game after the offense the
- 27:19Speaker 1: second drive of the game from forty one yards. He
- 27:21Speaker 1: really pulled it left. The Giant Special teams successfully ran
- 27:25Speaker 1: a fake punt in this game, their first one all year.
- 27:27Speaker 1: From what the broadcast teams said, Eagles special teams, they
- 27:31Speaker 1: were not ready for that fake punt. And I do
- 27:34Speaker 1: have to say, though, Keeley Ringo, you know, may not
- 27:37Speaker 1: be the greatest cornerback in the world. He had an
- 27:39Speaker 1: incredible open field tackle on some punk coverage in the
- 27:42Speaker 1: third quarter. He's really been a special teams ace a
- 27:46Speaker 1: lot throughout this year, making plays on special teams. But
- 27:49Speaker 1: I think from a special teams perspective, I'm gonna give
- 27:52Speaker 1: them a C plus this week. What do you give
- 27:54Speaker 1: special teams? Maybe a B minus right around that area.
- 27:59Speaker 3: From a play?
- 28:00Speaker 2: So am I coaching? Am I?
- 28:02Speaker 3: Am I grading Coach Clay? Or am I grading the player? Well?
- 28:07Speaker 2: How do we do this? Usually?
- 28:08Speaker 1: I mean sometimes we I don't know. Sometimes maybe it's unfair.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Sometimes we're go coach grading Coach Clay. Sometimes we're kind
- 28:15Speaker 1: of just grading how the special teams were. Overall, I
- 28:17Speaker 1: feel like I'm grading how special teams was overall today,
- 28:21Speaker 1: when you're not expecting the fake punt, you've got Jake
- 28:23Speaker 1: Elliott missing field goals forty one yard or I don't know, it's.
- 28:28Speaker 3: Uh because I kind of because I asked that question,
- 28:31Speaker 3: and I hate to belabor the point, but I asked
- 28:33Speaker 3: that question because when I think about like not being
- 28:36Speaker 3: ready for the fake punt, I think guys are coached
- 28:38Speaker 3: up on how to defend a fake punt. Yeah, but
- 28:41Speaker 3: I think it's like it's like if the pitcher's on
- 28:44Speaker 3: the mound and you just let a guy run the
- 28:47Speaker 3: second without even because your eye on it. So I
- 28:51Speaker 3: think you just you just start yawning. You get in
- 28:53Speaker 3: the motions of a of a football game. And I
- 28:56Speaker 3: don't want to thing coach Clay. While I say that,
- 29:01Speaker 3: I'm still I don't think C plus is a bad grade.
- 29:05Speaker 3: I just I just don't want I just want to
- 29:08Speaker 3: make that distinction. I think that that's more player driven
- 29:11Speaker 3: as opposed to if that's coach stupp or not got.
- 29:14Speaker 2: You, I got it, I got you.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Vic Fangio, I think he had this defensive unit with
- 29:20Speaker 1: the talent he had. Yeah, I think he absolutely had
- 29:22Speaker 1: him playing. I'm giving him a B plus this week?
- 29:24Speaker 1: What do you give him?
- 29:27Speaker 3: I wish I could go to I agree with the
- 29:30Speaker 3: B plus. I wish I could go to A. But
- 29:32Speaker 3: like I said, what I said at the beginning of
- 29:34Speaker 3: the show, and if you didn't remember that, just sproll
- 29:36Speaker 3: back to the beginning because it's been a.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Lot of fun.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Yes, I said something about how Drew Locke played today
- 29:41Speaker 3: that I'm not going to repeat, but I still need
- 29:44Speaker 3: it one hundred exactly exactly.
- 29:48Speaker 2: All right, Oh my gosh, all right? What about Wait?
- 29:51Speaker 2: Did you give him a grade? Did you give Vic Fangio?
- 29:53Speaker 2: I give a B plus B plus?
- 29:55Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I wish I could go to A.
- 29:57Speaker 2: You I wish I could.
- 29:59Speaker 3: I wish I just can't. Okay, pless is the max
- 30:03Speaker 3: on this great?
- 30:04Speaker 1: All right, I'm giving the same B plus, believe it
- 30:07Speaker 1: or not to Kellen Moore and Nick Sirianni, because you know,
- 30:10Speaker 1: there's only so much talent out there you could do
- 30:13Speaker 1: so much with. So I think we saw that with
- 30:16Speaker 1: the backups, and again I love them making sure that
- 30:20Speaker 1: Johan Dotson was targeted eleven times in this game given
- 30:24Speaker 1: him the opportunity to not only shine, but to show
- 30:27Speaker 1: some route running prowess. And you know some yards after
- 30:30Speaker 1: the catch as well. So B plus for me, what
- 30:33Speaker 1: do you give them?
- 30:34Speaker 2: Yeah? B plus.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Imagine what Tanner could have done if if there was
- 30:39Speaker 3: a rushing attack.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Yeah, you know it was.
- 30:42Speaker 3: The water was very still. There was no rush.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely well, Matt, Buddy, like this Eagles team is
- 30:48Speaker 1: going to be facing the Green Bay Packers at the
- 30:51Speaker 1: link in the wild card matchup. Likely what the number two,
- 30:56Speaker 1: number two seed in the NMB they're gonna be Eagles
- 30:59Speaker 1: are gonna be number two seed in the NFC, and
- 31:04Speaker 1: it's it's gonna be an interesting matchup. The Eagles face
- 31:06Speaker 1: the Green Bay Packers the very first game of the
- 31:08Speaker 1: season in Brazil.
- 31:10Speaker 2: We know how that game went.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Eagles came out of Brazil with the victory, but it
- 31:14Speaker 1: was still it was one of those games where both
- 31:16Speaker 1: teams were getting a lot of rust off the very
- 31:19Speaker 1: first game of the year. Matt, and we're gonna see
- 31:21Speaker 1: two completely different teams than what Week one was. And
- 31:27Speaker 1: I think at the end of the day, I mean,
- 31:28Speaker 1: we're not. Even though this is going to be a prediction,
- 31:31Speaker 1: I haven't given it a lot of intelligent thought necessarily,
- 31:34Speaker 1: but I really do think, especially in the link. The
- 31:37Speaker 1: Eagles likely I believe likely to win this game. I'd
- 31:41Speaker 1: be surprised if they're not favored, perhaps by two and
- 31:44Speaker 1: a half points, maybe three point three and a half
- 31:46Speaker 1: or whatever. Heading into this game, I think the Eagles
- 31:51Speaker 1: very much can and will beat the Green Bay Packers
- 31:54Speaker 1: to then advance to the Division Round.
- 31:57Speaker 3: I wouldn't bet it at I think the two and
- 31:59Speaker 3: a half about right in terms of like, would I
- 32:02Speaker 3: be willing to investigate in that way.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Yes, exactly, this is right.
- 32:08Speaker 1: This is literally right after the Eagles Giants game when
- 32:10Speaker 1: we're recording this, so we don't know anything at.
- 32:12Speaker 3: This point, so iry to investigate something like that. However,
- 32:15Speaker 3: in real life, I wouldn't be shocked to see This
- 32:18Speaker 3: is not advice in terms of expenditures of money, just
- 32:21Speaker 3: to be very okay, but I would not be shocked
- 32:24Speaker 3: to see I would not be shocked to see the
- 32:26Speaker 3: Eagles win by two score not two touchdowns, but two
- 32:30Speaker 3: school score points and something like that. I think that
- 32:33Speaker 3: this Eagles talking about knocking the rust off. I think
- 32:36Speaker 3: Fangio was part of that. There were there was a
- 32:40Speaker 3: lot of blow ups of the secondary YEP that with
- 32:43Speaker 3: personnel and had to do with scheme, those things have
- 32:45Speaker 3: been cleaned up and it's mostly been in the secondary.
- 32:48Speaker 3: I think I think Baker got a lot of had
- 32:51Speaker 3: a lot of fun that he wouldn't have if the
- 32:54Speaker 3: Eagles played him again. And I think Jordan loved the same,
- 32:56Speaker 3: especially on the throwing hand. Yep, you know he'll be
- 32:59Speaker 3: still be good. Jordan loves still going to be it
- 33:01Speaker 3: still is and is going to play well. But see
- 33:05Speaker 3: this Eagles team picking him off two, three times again?
- 33:07Speaker 2: Wow?
- 33:08Speaker 1: Man, I'd love to see it, for sure. But it's
- 33:10Speaker 1: gonna be an interesting game and we're certainly going to
- 33:12Speaker 1: be covering it and having a postgame podcast after the
- 33:16Speaker 1: wild card playoff game. But hopefully it's not a post mortem. Yeah,
- 33:20Speaker 1: hopefully it's not a post mortem. Better not be a
- 33:22Speaker 1: post mortem. It's going to be a post game show.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Hopefully look into the divisional round for sure. That's what
- 33:27Speaker 1: we want to be. Yes, it better be. I'll be
- 33:30Speaker 1: crying here, yes, Oh gosh, that would be horrendous. But
- 33:35Speaker 1: I gotta say, throughout this regular season, Matt, it has
- 33:38Speaker 1: been a pleasure and I appreciate you jumping on when
- 33:41Speaker 1: you needed to fill in for the guys and really
- 33:44Speaker 1: appreciate you, my friend, and again, folks, the honorable mentioned podcast.

- 33:58Speaker 1: Folks, winning Week eighteen of this twenty twenty four twenty
- 34:02Speaker 1: twenty five regular season, beating the New York Giants by
- 34:05Speaker 1: a score of twenty to thirteen. It's gonna do it
- 34:08Speaker 1: for us. Everybody, take care. We'll catch you next time.
