Lux Radio Theatre - "The Westerner" (Old Time Radio, 1940)
Lux Radio Theatre presents “The Westerner,” episode 274, originally broadcast on September 23, 1940. Adapted from Samuel Goldwyn’s 1940 western, the production stars Gary Cooper as saddle tramp Cole Harden, Walter Brennan as Judge Roy Bean, and Doris Davenport as Jane Ellen Mathews.
In Vinegaroon, Texas, west of the Pecos, Harden finds himself before Bean’s saloon-court justice as cattlemen and homesteaders battle over the land. His quick wits earn him a temporary reprieve, but draw him deeper into a rugged frontier conflict—and closer to a homesteader’s daughter.
