Is the Universe Slowing Down? | Science News
New research analyzing over 1,700 supernovae challenges the idea that the universe’s expansion is speeding up, suggesting instead it might be slowing down—especially when accounting for stellar ages. The apparent acceleration varies directionally, which contradicts dark energy predictions, and seems linked to our motion through space. While some cosmologists defend the accelerating universe model, this fresh data could soon be settled by the Rubin Observatory’s massive upcoming survey of hundreds of thousands of supernovae.
