- 0:03Speaker 1: This is a podcast whist stocking ball and they all
- 0:09Speaker 1: wear the whist so yes, but what did you expect?
- 0:13Speaker 1: It's a podcast twenty five whistles presented by Draft Kings
- 0:22Speaker 1: sports book and official sports Bening partner of the NFL.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Download the Draft Kings app and used the code Bobby
- 0:28Speaker 1: sports to get in on the action and all the
- 0:31Speaker 1: bells and whistles there. All right, let's all blow us
- 0:33Speaker 1: in here we go, one, two, three, al right, warm
- 0:37Speaker 1: up question, any sport any age? What was your jersey
- 0:41Speaker 1: number and why did you pick it? Any sport in
- 0:44Speaker 1: the age? Your jersey number. Let's go to kick off.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Kevin First. When I was younger, played a lot of baseball.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I wore number five four Nomar Garcia para Wow. Yeah,
- 0:55Speaker 1: my favorite player. When I was a kid, I played shortstop.
- 0:58Speaker 1: I would do the whole uh you know, you had
- 1:00Speaker 1: the hands with the gloves and do that. Whatever he did.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I would act like I was doing the same thing
- 1:03Speaker 1: up there, and uh I was. I was about just
- 1:07Speaker 1: as good as him, but just at a younger age.
- 1:09Speaker 1: You know, I like that number. I was number seventeen
- 1:12Speaker 1: in baseball from Mark Grace. My favorite player. I played
- 1:15Speaker 1: first base, I'm left handed. He was the first place
- 1:17Speaker 1: for the Cubs. So all my baseball career, which went
- 1:20Speaker 1: to eighteen and then it endedfore I could get paid.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Football is eighty nine as a slot receiver because my
- 1:27Speaker 1: older cousin, who I didn't know that well, was eighty seven.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I was like, oh, I have eighty seven please. I
- 1:31Speaker 1: was like five years younger. I thought he was so
- 1:33Speaker 1: cool and he was really good tight end in a
- 1:34Speaker 1: big school and they were like, we don't have it.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I was like, what's the closest thing seven? I'll take
- 1:38Speaker 1: it that that's it. So that was me Eddie. I
- 1:41Speaker 1: was twenty one played football in high school and I
- 1:44Speaker 1: got twenty one. Because I wasn't good. They gave me
- 1:47Speaker 1: the helmet. I was a receiver. They gave me the
- 1:49Speaker 1: helmet with the freaking bar right down in the middle
- 1:51Speaker 1: like alignman helmet, and number twenty one on my guys,
- 1:54Speaker 1: give at least give me eighties something. And now I
- 1:56Speaker 1: got stuck with twenty one and I got to play
- 1:58Speaker 1: receiver as number twenty one. They're like, we'll just let
- 2:00Speaker 1: it slide go. If you played receiver now it's twenty one,
- 2:02Speaker 1: you'd be really good. Yes, they don't. They won't give
- 2:05Speaker 1: that to a receiver unless they can also catch out
- 2:08Speaker 1: of the backfield or but when we were playing, was
- 2:12Speaker 1: like a defensive like that goes down your much because
- 2:17Speaker 1: you can't see because the big bar. Mike d just
- 2:20Speaker 1: may surprise you. I did not play any sports as
- 2:22Speaker 1: a kid as a teenager, so I had no number,
- 2:25Speaker 1: and we got to get him a number. Yeah, we
- 2:27Speaker 1: gotta get him a number and put him in something.
- 2:29Speaker 1: We should sign him up. Yeah, let's take pictures. Yeah,
- 2:32Speaker 1: we got a trophy. I did pictures the whole thing.
- 2:35Speaker 1: We also got to get him a massage. I've went
- 2:37Speaker 1: out of town a lot, but he's never had a massage,
- 2:40Speaker 1: and so I'm gonna get him a massage. Unless you
- 2:41Speaker 1: just really don't want to do it. I would do
- 2:44Speaker 1: it for the experience. He's never had a massage, and
- 2:46Speaker 1: we asked him why not because you don't want to
- 2:50Speaker 1: have your shirt off. I don't want to have my shirt.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I just don't really like anybody working on me. I
- 2:55Speaker 1: don't even like getting a haircut. That's weird. The whole
- 2:58Speaker 1: process just awkward to me. Well, missage is way more
- 3:00Speaker 1: awkward and intimated than a haircut. I if you really
- 3:05Speaker 1: want to do it as either a bit because you
- 3:08Speaker 1: think it's worth it or because you just want the experience,
- 3:10Speaker 1: I will follow through with this, but I don't want
- 3:12Speaker 1: you to feel pressure to do it if you're really uncomfortable.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I'm not that uncomfortable. I'll do it for the sake
- 3:17Speaker 1: of a bit, okay, because that's something if you do.
- 3:20Speaker 1: If you do want to do it for the sake
- 3:21Speaker 1: of the bit, I will allow that. I've done a
- 3:23Speaker 1: lot of things for bits, and I'm like, I don't
- 3:25Speaker 1: like it. But if it's against what you stand for,
- 3:29Speaker 1: not stand for it, okay, then I will still do it.
- 3:32Speaker 1: We gotta get him in a sport. We're really gonna
- 3:35Speaker 1: sign him up though, right he's gonna play. I can't
- 3:37Speaker 1: be a whole league because then he's got to actually
- 3:39Speaker 1: go play and miss the show. But maybe it's maybe
- 3:43Speaker 1: it's even like a charity softball game where he gets
- 3:45Speaker 1: a jersey and a number. The guy's never had a number. Wow,
- 3:49Speaker 1: we gotta get him something. Okay, thanks guys. Let's go
- 3:52Speaker 1: over and we have a jingle for this to redo.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Another jingle. I have not heard this. Let's hear the
- 3:59Speaker 1: tittle tat old Jingle's time. It's time. It's time. The
- 4:13Speaker 1: stupidest name ever, the Tatle Tattle. Okay, that is azing
- 4:23Speaker 1: a three minute song. It's gonna go number one. Okay,
- 4:27Speaker 1: It's now time for the tittle Tattle. Five questions from
- 4:30Speaker 1: Kickoff Kevin. Who you can follow at Kickoff Kevin on Instagram. Alright,
- 4:33Speaker 1: Kickoff Kevin, what you got? Alright? The Steeler's name Mitch
- 4:36Speaker 1: Robinski as the starter for week one. I don't think
- 4:39Speaker 1: it's gonna last, So I'm putting the over under at
- 4:41Speaker 1: five games, like ken, you pick it replaces him? Are
- 4:44Speaker 1: you taking the over or the under? Remember, if anybody disagrees,
- 4:47Speaker 1: you can blow the whistle. Okay, I'm gonna go over.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I think listen. I like mitched whisky. I think in Chicago,
- 4:55Speaker 1: bad things happened, as they often do in Chicago, and
- 4:59Speaker 1: that continue you to build. And he was in a
- 5:01Speaker 1: no win situation, and he also wasn't playing wonderful, and
- 5:03Speaker 1: you know, I think he was in the same classes
- 5:05Speaker 1: with my homes or yeah, yeah, and all that, and
- 5:09Speaker 1: so that was always held over his head because he
- 5:11Speaker 1: got picked before before all yeah, not even picked before
- 5:13Speaker 1: them too, And so I think he's actually going to
- 5:18Speaker 1: be pretty okay. I'm gonna say pretty good, but I'm
- 5:21Speaker 1: gonna go over five games because I like him, they're
- 5:25Speaker 1: paying him, and I think it's great that Pickett gets
- 5:28Speaker 1: a whole year hopefully. I think they want Picket to
- 5:30Speaker 1: have a whole year be in the backup because not
- 5:34Speaker 1: having to play that's a that's a really good thing.
- 5:37Speaker 1: That means the team is doing okay and he can
- 5:39Speaker 1: learn without happened to be just baptized by fire. There's
- 5:42Speaker 1: a difference we learning how to five fires and being
- 5:45Speaker 1: tossed in the middle of it and having to learn
- 5:47Speaker 1: how to escape the fire and then learn how to
- 5:49Speaker 1: put it out. So I'm gonna take the over. Hopefully
- 5:53Speaker 1: doesn't have to play it all this season, that's a hope.
- 5:55Speaker 1: All right. Next all right, for the first time since
- 5:57Speaker 1: two thousand and seven, there will be no rookie starting
- 5:59Speaker 1: qbs in the NFL. We know that's not gonna last
- 6:01Speaker 1: all season. So if you had to pick one rookie
- 6:03Speaker 1: to start first, who will it be. I think we
- 6:05Speaker 1: have to remember, though, that this was not a good
- 6:07Speaker 1: rookie classic quarterback, So I don't know it's harder than
- 6:13Speaker 1: pick it who I'm not going to pick them because
- 6:16Speaker 1: they have actually have a pretty good quarterback ahead of them.
- 6:18Speaker 1: So if I'm thinking what would be like, you can't
- 6:23Speaker 1: predict injuries, but if I'm gonna predict an injury, I
- 6:25Speaker 1: would prickt not someone who gets injured, and that would
- 6:27Speaker 1: be like a Carson Wentz, like Sam How in Washington,
- 6:31Speaker 1: probably not the most ready, but I mean, what do
- 6:35Speaker 1: I know. I don't I don't see him practicing, but
- 6:38Speaker 1: WinCE is known to get hurt, even for a couple
- 6:42Speaker 1: of weeks at a time, so I would probably go
- 6:44Speaker 1: Sam How if I'm picking one quarterback to play. You know,
- 6:49Speaker 1: maliek Willis at times looks just Wowser's in preseason with
- 6:55Speaker 1: the Titans, but they don't want him to play this year.
- 6:57Speaker 1: They've got Tannehill. They would love for him to sit
- 7:00Speaker 1: a whole year because things are going well with the
- 7:01Speaker 1: Titans and then come in maybe maybe even in two years.
- 7:06Speaker 1: You know. That's so yeah, I'm gonna go with the commanders.
- 7:09Speaker 1: It's also still weird to think of him as a commander. Yeah,
- 7:13Speaker 1: there's a whistle, Eddie, I got you on this. I
- 7:15Speaker 1: think that I'm gonna go with the Falcons because they
- 7:17Speaker 1: have Marcus Mariotta who hasn't started, and I don't know how.
- 7:20Speaker 1: It's a good one. And they got they got that
- 7:22Speaker 1: kid from Cincinnati as a backup. So I feel like
- 7:25Speaker 1: they're gonna find out very quickly that Marcus he just
- 7:28Speaker 1: lets us down every year. So I feel like they're
- 7:29Speaker 1: gonna figure it out pretty quick that Marcus Mariotta is
- 7:32Speaker 1: not going to be the starting quarterback in and they're
- 7:33Speaker 1: gonna let this kid from Cincinnati who they just drafted
- 7:37Speaker 1: take over. That's a good one. What's his name, Kevin
- 7:40Speaker 1: Desmond Ritter. That's a good one, dude, thank you. That's
- 7:43Speaker 1: probably number two, you know, I mean did the Falcons
- 7:46Speaker 1: are just gonna be so interesting to watch, Like what
- 7:48Speaker 1: are they gonna do with that squad? I hope to
- 7:51Speaker 1: plays well. I do too, and I think he has
- 7:53Speaker 1: the potential to actually play pretty well. You know, he
- 7:57Speaker 1: didn't play consistent in Tennessee, so then he goes to
- 8:02Speaker 1: the Raiders, doesn't play a lot, plays in short on
- 8:05Speaker 1: goal line situations, and runs a little bit. But he
- 8:09Speaker 1: was drafted for a reason, really high because he has
- 8:13Speaker 1: skill set or potential, and obviously they wouldn't have grabbed him.
- 8:16Speaker 1: He's a bridge player. Let's let's not kid ourselves. He's
- 8:20Speaker 1: a bridge player. But I don't think they wanted that
- 8:21Speaker 1: bridge before weeks. I think they wanted to bridge hopefully
- 8:25Speaker 1: be a year. I think that's probably the goal there.
- 8:28Speaker 1: But okay, who would you rather have starting? For you?
- 8:31Speaker 1: To or Mariotta? Oh To? I know how good Too is?
- 8:37Speaker 1: I mean to two has just been We've been dealing
- 8:38Speaker 1: with injuries, so we haven't had a really good full
- 8:41Speaker 1: season of Tua. Hopefully he's healthy this entire year and
- 8:44Speaker 1: we can finally see what two was going to do
- 8:46Speaker 1: in the NFL. You think about that kickoff, Kevin, I'm
- 8:49Speaker 1: not as convinced as Eddie when I say to uh,
- 8:54Speaker 1: this is kind of the maker break a year for TWA, right,
- 8:56Speaker 1: I mean, if we're still talking got weapons galore. Yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 1: and he's got my McDaniel as a coach now, so
- 9:00Speaker 1: there's no more excuses. If it doesn't go this year,
- 9:02Speaker 1: then then we're gonna say, Okay, he's another Mariota. So
- 9:06Speaker 1: I would say to it right now, but I wouldn't
- 9:08Speaker 1: be surprised in I for a year from now he
- 9:09Speaker 1: has the same question and it's like, yeah, it's a
- 9:11Speaker 1: toss up, so it's close to you. Yeah, yeah, I
- 9:13Speaker 1: actually like to a lot. He kind of gets a
- 9:18Speaker 1: uh a minus because of his arm strength. I think
- 9:22Speaker 1: his arm strength is fine. It's not great. It's not
- 9:24Speaker 1: above average. Friend, I think it's an average arm but
- 9:28Speaker 1: he can do things we think that other quarterbacks can't do,
- 9:31Speaker 1: especially with his feet. So I like to And he
- 9:33Speaker 1: has the weapons listen it wide receiver tied it. I
- 9:36Speaker 1: mean he's in the offensive guru, so I would go
- 9:41Speaker 1: to as well. I just wondered that I hope the
- 9:43Speaker 1: Falcons win. I'd love to say I'd love to see
- 9:46Speaker 1: Mario to win. All right, Next question, Kevin, what's revenge game?
- 9:50Speaker 1: Are you looking forward to the most Baker versus Browns
- 9:53Speaker 1: or Russell Wilson at Seattle. I'm going to see Baker
- 9:56Speaker 1: versus everybody. I'm gonna see Baker kill everybody. I love
- 9:59Speaker 1: Baker a Field hated them at Oklahoma. Why. I just
- 10:04Speaker 1: wish he would just disappear from the landscape of sports.
- 10:07Speaker 1: But then got a d M from him once going, hey,
- 10:09Speaker 1: I'm a big fan. Listening in Lake Travis. I was going,
- 10:11Speaker 1: I was like, I love you, and then I would
- 10:14Speaker 1: start to pay more attention to him as a player.
- 10:17Speaker 1: He played hurt last year, probably shouldn't have when he
- 10:20Speaker 1: was not hurt. Look what the Browns did first time
- 10:24Speaker 1: in years. I love Baker, Baker versus everybody, but so
- 10:29Speaker 1: I go Baker versus the Browns. The interesting thing that
- 10:32Speaker 1: was Baker versus the Browns and Rust versus Seattle are
- 10:35Speaker 1: it's these guys versus teams with no quarterback, Like there's
- 10:38Speaker 1: such yeah. Yeah, so they're both favorites. So it's not
- 10:42Speaker 1: even like we're watching it to see. I wonder who wins.
- 10:45Speaker 1: We're watching it to go. I wonder if they're so
- 10:47Speaker 1: angry and they played really well, because they both should win,
- 10:49Speaker 1: Like they should beat the Browns. Yeah, the Panther should
- 10:52Speaker 1: be the Browns, and they should be everyody should be Seattle,
- 10:54Speaker 1: every our team Seattle. Yes, what were you gonna say
- 10:59Speaker 1: about that, Kevin, No, I was gonna say. I mean
- 11:01Speaker 1: the Seahawks, Um, we'll probably get spanked by the Broncos
- 11:04Speaker 1: this week by everybody else in the NC West too,
- 11:06Speaker 1: that's Seahawks quarterback. I was surprised. I was surprised with
- 11:10Speaker 1: who they picked over there because last year he just
- 11:13Speaker 1: could not throw. But I'm not the coach. What the
- 11:16Speaker 1: crap do I know? I just do a podcast whistles.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Yeah it's stupid and oh again because you love Baker
- 11:24Speaker 1: and I get it, and I have nothing against Baker,
- 11:26Speaker 1: but I want to see Russell Wilson stick it to Seattle, like,
- 11:30Speaker 1: you know, I agree that he's been so pissed at
- 11:32Speaker 1: Seattle for what though, but well to trade him again.
- 11:36Speaker 1: There was a story yesterday. He's like, yeah, they try
- 11:38Speaker 1: to trade me once before I go back there and
- 11:41Speaker 1: stick it to him. And I can't wait to see.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I mean, dude, Russell has all the weapons. He's gonna
- 11:46Speaker 1: do so good in Denver, and I can't wait to
- 11:47Speaker 1: see it. I hope he does well. You know. I
- 11:50Speaker 1: think people are saying his skill set has diminished, and
- 11:53Speaker 1: he's like, no, it hasn't. I'll show you. He's like, no,
- 11:56Speaker 1: he had hurt hand. He probably again talking about injuries
- 11:58Speaker 1: coming back too early. I would even put myself into this, uh,
- 12:04Speaker 1: with this job, being sick or and I'm like, you know,
- 12:07Speaker 1: I'm just gonna go in and do the show because
- 12:09Speaker 1: I feel like that's what I'm supposed to do. But
- 12:11Speaker 1: then doing that probably keeps me from getting healthier or
- 12:14Speaker 1: quicker long term. Does the show benefit I don't know.
- 12:18Speaker 1: But Russ Ruskin is back with a bad finger, right,
- 12:20Speaker 1: look at it didn't play well, and I think that
- 12:24Speaker 1: hurt him. So skill set diminished basically playing with bad hand. Uh.
- 12:29Speaker 1: The same thing with Baker goes in and his shoulder
- 12:32Speaker 1: dies and they're like, yo, look at bakery sucks. It's
- 12:35Speaker 1: like I'm playing with one wing here. So I also
- 12:39Speaker 1: both games are pretty exciting. I think Russ and Seattle,
- 12:42Speaker 1: I think he'll get a really positive reception because he
- 12:46Speaker 1: gave that city a lot and that city gave him
- 12:48Speaker 1: a lot. What two Super Bowls want to win? Right
- 12:52Speaker 1: every year when they were in it every year, and
- 12:55Speaker 1: the city of Seattle and Russ, they have a good
- 12:57Speaker 1: relationship rust that, so they'll they'll they'll warmly welcome him
- 13:01Speaker 1: and that would be really cool and then hopefully kills
- 13:03Speaker 1: him hopefully the second quarter of the don't like all right, Kevin? Alright?
- 13:09Speaker 1: Which QB has the most approven Week two in college football?
- 13:12Speaker 1: Clemson's dj Ui ungle or Oregan's bow Nick Oh? Next,
- 13:16Speaker 1: I was just dead? That was about I mean, I
- 13:18Speaker 1: don't know about Nix is gonna do. Uh. I don't
- 13:22Speaker 1: even not think that bow Nick. That's tough. So I
- 13:25Speaker 1: think it's DJ just because he's got a guy right
- 13:27Speaker 1: behind him. Now they're going, oh my gosh, she's so good. Yeah,
- 13:30Speaker 1: they're going this is Oklahoma with with Caleb Williams, but
- 13:35Speaker 1: with Spencer Rattler Caleb Williams, and they're like they're like yelling, hey,
- 13:38Speaker 1: leg and but Spencer Rattler was it. I don't know,
- 13:42Speaker 1: it's still similar, as I talk to myself into it.
- 13:44Speaker 1: That's a good comperson. I like that actually because they
- 13:46Speaker 1: want this kid. But I think DJ because he came
- 13:50Speaker 1: in so he came into that program Clemson. He's Clemson's guy.
- 13:53Speaker 1: He was the guy that was coming into place, replaced
- 13:56Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence Heisman. I still think he can play really well.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I think he's got the most approve because I think
- 14:04Speaker 1: that team has the most that they can They can
- 14:07Speaker 1: still win the national championship. But I'm scared they're gonna
- 14:10Speaker 1: replace him. Listen, Bonnicks may not even keep that job
- 14:12Speaker 1: in Oregon. But what's working gonna do? They got beat
- 14:14Speaker 1: a hundred of nothing. It's gonna be almost impossible for
- 14:17Speaker 1: them to get into a four team playoff unless they
- 14:19Speaker 1: run the table and also kill people. That's gonna be tough, though,
- 14:23Speaker 1: getting embarrassed Georgia like that. It was even if they
- 14:26Speaker 1: got beat by twenty one, I would be like, okay,
- 14:29Speaker 1: of course, everybody gets beat by twenty one points. But
- 14:32Speaker 1: that was really ugly. It was so ugly that that's
- 14:35Speaker 1: gonna be held against them all season because it was
- 14:38Speaker 1: so ugly quick and it could have been a lot uglier. Yeah,
- 14:41Speaker 1: I mean they weren't even fighting. Looked awful, awful, he looked.
- 14:45Speaker 1: But again, everybody looks bad against Georgia. But yes, he
- 14:49Speaker 1: looked in yeah, alright, what else? Alright, a couple of
- 14:56Speaker 1: big matchups this week and college football. Which one are
- 14:58Speaker 1: you most excited for? Baylor at b y you, Kentucky
- 15:01Speaker 1: at Florida, or Tennessee at pitt I was looking at
- 15:05Speaker 1: the entire schedule and there aren't a lot of great games,
- 15:08Speaker 1: which usually there aren't in weeks. Wanted to all three
- 15:10Speaker 1: of these games are awesome, and I'll tell you which
- 15:14Speaker 1: one in a second. But Baylor at b y U
- 15:17Speaker 1: I could give a crap out either one of those
- 15:18Speaker 1: teams personally. But that's gonna be a just that's gonna
- 15:22Speaker 1: be a game like they're gonna there's be a lot
- 15:25Speaker 1: of points scored. B Y, you are they as good
- 15:29Speaker 1: as people are making them out to be. I hope not.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Arkan's gonna play them later this year. That makes me nervous.
- 15:34Speaker 1: We have to go to Provo and play them, But
- 15:36Speaker 1: that's by you and Baylor is gonna be super cool.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Kentucky and Florida. I think Kentucky is gonna win that game.
- 15:43Speaker 1: I'm the only one in the whole world, by the way,
- 15:44Speaker 1: and I realized I also say Home Alone is not
- 15:46Speaker 1: a Christmas movie, So I get it. I'm okay with
- 15:48Speaker 1: being a Kintrarian, but I'm not for just the sake
- 15:50Speaker 1: of being a contrarian. I think Kentucky wins that game.
- 15:53Speaker 1: It's in the swamp. That's tough, But I think Kentucky
- 15:57Speaker 1: is a better team. And then Tennessee and pit It
- 16:00Speaker 1: We're pitt They're a good team, and Tennessee is a
- 16:03Speaker 1: team with supposedly a lot of potential this season. See
- 16:07Speaker 1: what Hooker can do at quarterback against that defense is
- 16:09Speaker 1: pretty good. But I'm going to go Kentucky at Florida
- 16:12Speaker 1: for two reasons. I'm most excited to see if Florida,
- 16:16Speaker 1: who wasn't supposed to do anything, was that a fluke,
- 16:21Speaker 1: was you know, Utah not as good as people had
- 16:27Speaker 1: probably had propped them up to be. And if they
- 16:30Speaker 1: can whoop Kentucky, I'm like, all right, they're a player.
- 16:32Speaker 1: But I that game I'm really looking forward to the most.
- 16:35Speaker 1: That Florida quarterback is so good. I like one game.
- 16:38Speaker 1: I know it's one right, he hadn't didn't play much.
- 16:42Speaker 1: We had seen much of him until this year, but
- 16:44Speaker 1: he already had Heisman talk about him because of his potential. Right,
- 16:47Speaker 1: So I'm gonna vote Whistle just because I really want
- 16:51Speaker 1: to see Pitt because I am starting to believe this
- 16:54Speaker 1: pit team, Uh, they came they came off a really
- 16:56Speaker 1: good win. Uh, Tennessee is barely hanging onto the top
- 16:59Speaker 1: twenty five. I think Pitt could win this game there
- 17:02Speaker 1: at home. The energy at home was amazing last week
- 17:05Speaker 1: over at Pitt and Dude, this quarterback that they got
- 17:08Speaker 1: from USC is so good. I am starting to believe
- 17:11Speaker 1: that Pitt could be a contender this year. And if
- 17:13Speaker 1: you look at their schedule ahead to do they could
- 17:15Speaker 1: run for the next five or six weeks. Well, it
- 17:17Speaker 1: was like Clemson to or not Clemson, but Cincinnati if
- 17:19Speaker 1: they could have beat Arkansas ain't playing anybody else the
- 17:22Speaker 1: whole year. So it's just these two weeks they got
- 17:25Speaker 1: to get through. I'm going from memory. Didn't Pitt beat
- 17:28Speaker 1: Tennessee last year and someone looked that up? I don't know.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I feel like it was maybe they played maybe so
- 17:34Speaker 1: I didn't. It feels like maybe it was closet last
- 17:38Speaker 1: year Pitt beat Tennessee. I thought so in Tennessee, right, Okay,
- 17:42Speaker 1: now this is lock it up there. I mean they're
- 17:47Speaker 1: not the favorite, right, I think Tennessee is the favorite? Yeah, so,
- 17:49Speaker 1: I mean I think Pitt will want to win this game,
- 17:52Speaker 1: and why not cover it? Just betting? That's cool. Okay,
- 17:54Speaker 1: there you go, Mike, can you play? Is there something
- 17:56Speaker 1: to play to close it out? Or we just we
- 17:58Speaker 1: just be awkward and close it out? Thanks? Kevin All.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Who is America's favorite NFL team? That's the question, Well,
- 18:06Speaker 1: I know who your favorite NFL America's you know whose
- 18:09Speaker 1: it is? Do you still think it's a Dallas Cowboys?
- 18:12Speaker 1: Absolutely bones. If you go to an airport on a
- 18:15Speaker 1: Sunday like, and I just picked the airport because I've
- 18:17Speaker 1: seen it. People love to wear their jerseys especially, but
- 18:20Speaker 1: I think it's if you get like a Hyundai and
- 18:22Speaker 1: you're like, I got a hund and you see other
- 18:24Speaker 1: Hundays driving around because you have one. And there are
- 18:26Speaker 1: two teams that I always see lots of jerseys for,
- 18:28Speaker 1: and it's the Green Bay Packers for some weird reason,
- 18:31Speaker 1: a lot of Aaron Rodgers jerseys and the Dallas Cowboys
- 18:34Speaker 1: still and I love it. Dallas Cowboys are still America's team.
- 18:37Speaker 1: And I mean they're not good, They've proven that they
- 18:40Speaker 1: haven't been good in years, but they're still America's team.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Who he thinks America's favorite team I think right now,
- 18:46Speaker 1: and this isn't just going off of what just happened,
- 18:47Speaker 1: but I think the Bills are America's team right now.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I'm last night the morning, everybody is all over the
- 18:55Speaker 1: Bills because they're fun fan base, they haven't been good
- 18:58Speaker 1: in a while. Josh Allen is a Greek, and I
- 19:01Speaker 1: think America is all on. If you don't, if your
- 19:03Speaker 1: team isn't like arrival of them, I think you're jumping
- 19:05Speaker 1: on that wagon. Well, the last two teams. I give
- 19:08Speaker 1: you the last two. First, that America doesn't give a
- 19:10Speaker 1: crap about not hey, no interest at all. In the
- 19:13Speaker 1: last place is the Jacksonville Jaguars figured that who do
- 19:17Speaker 1: you think is next to last? That America doesn't care
- 19:20Speaker 1: about the Jets because it's not hate, it's no interest
- 19:25Speaker 1: at all, which is even worse than hate. The Texans
- 19:28Speaker 1: could be. I mean, I have the answer. It would
- 19:31Speaker 1: be tough because they're They're in a New Year market,
- 19:33Speaker 1: and if you're just in a big, big city, it's
- 19:35Speaker 1: tough for people not to care. But I think since
- 19:38Speaker 1: the Giants are there, it splits it so much, and
- 19:40Speaker 1: they're way more Giants fans than there are Jets fans.
- 19:42Speaker 1: The answer to Tennessee Titans, small market, haven't really done
- 19:46Speaker 1: a lot. What was it? What did you call them?
- 19:50Speaker 1: As that? The what America's what? Well at least favorite?
- 19:53Speaker 1: The last two favorite the America's at least least favorite team.
- 19:56Speaker 1: It's crazy. They made the playoffs like the last few
- 19:58Speaker 1: years and they're the best running back of the last
- 20:01Speaker 1: and people still don't like them. It's not that they
- 20:03Speaker 1: don't like them, they don't care. There's a difference because
- 20:06Speaker 1: if there's hate for something. That means there's passion on
- 20:08Speaker 1: the other side too, Like passion has the opposite of
- 20:11Speaker 1: that coin as well. Always that's who're saying. So, But yeah,
- 20:14Speaker 1: good top ten teams at number ten, New Orleans Saints
- 20:17Speaker 1: and number nine the Bucks, number eight, the Chiefs seven,
- 20:22Speaker 1: the Patriots six, the Giants five, the Niners. Here we
- 20:26Speaker 1: go from the Cowboys for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I thought
- 20:33Speaker 1: Pittsburgh might be up there on the top. There are
- 20:35Speaker 1: a lot of Steelers, and they are. They're a passionate bunch.
- 20:39Speaker 1: The Packers at three. Who, So the Cowboys are in
- 20:44Speaker 1: the top two. Who do you think the other team
- 20:45Speaker 1: is though, because we've mentioned all these America's favorite team.
- 20:49Speaker 1: You said the Bucks and they were top ten, right,
- 20:50Speaker 1: but i'd go Patriots. You already said that. The Chicago
- 20:56Speaker 1: Bears are at two. Yeah, and I would imagine that's
- 20:59Speaker 1: a lot of hold over some like the eighties. They've
- 21:02Speaker 1: just been around from. Yeah, they're like man Walter Payton,
- 21:06Speaker 1: like I remember when Jim Harball used to actually play
- 21:09Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys number one. So Dallas Cowboys at nine percent,
- 21:12Speaker 1: but the Bears were a close second at eight point five.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Then the Packers and Steelers were six percent. I mean,
- 21:17Speaker 1: the Cowboys are just so entertaining, Like even, no, you
- 21:20Speaker 1: just think that because they're your favorite. I'm not to
- 21:22Speaker 1: entertained by them. I'm saying, like, even last night, what team?
- 21:26Speaker 1: What game were they talking about last night? While they're
- 21:28Speaker 1: commenting on a doing commentary on a game, they're talking
- 21:31Speaker 1: about the Dallas Cowboys in the bucks, it's gonna be
- 21:33Speaker 1: the game that is gonna be a great game. And
- 21:35Speaker 1: who's playing? And why does the NFL do it? Because
- 21:37Speaker 1: everyone loves the Cowboys, Let's put them week one, prime
- 21:40Speaker 1: time Sunday night. Agree, But they're not the most entertaining.
- 21:44Speaker 1: You know what, Let's just forget it. I'm done, Like,
- 21:47Speaker 1: what's entertaining about the Cowboys now? I'm literally asking because
- 21:50Speaker 1: as Dak is not an entertaining player? Um dynamic at times,
- 21:53Speaker 1: heard a lie uh zeke, heard a lot fun fun,
- 21:57Speaker 1: he carries persons. I liked it about him. Um, they're not.
- 22:01Speaker 1: They're not in trouble. They're not. They don't have any big,
- 22:03Speaker 1: big personalities, the big Like I'm asking why they're entertaining.
- 22:09Speaker 1: I think again, you have people they're just growing up
- 22:11Speaker 1: liking them. And that's why, based on their entertainment in
- 22:13Speaker 1: the nineties. That's why, because if I haven't had success,
- 22:17Speaker 1: not really, No, it's not definitely not the success. I
- 22:20Speaker 1: think it's the cheerleaders. I mean, the whole thing built
- 22:22Speaker 1: around the Cowboys, the big stadium. I like the Cheiler's
- 22:25Speaker 1: argument because that is a thing. I mean, it's part
- 22:27Speaker 1: of entertaining. And I think the players too. I think
- 22:29Speaker 1: people love to hate on there is some love to
- 22:32Speaker 1: hate too, and the fans and the fans I think
- 22:35Speaker 1: everybody has a great fans. Well no, no, no, I
- 22:37Speaker 1: think it's us that kind of do. The whole is
- 22:39Speaker 1: is our year and people hate. But the Cowboys think
- 22:42Speaker 1: every year is the year they're gonna win the Super Bowl.
- 22:44Speaker 1: And I think the rest of the league is like,
- 22:46Speaker 1: you're so stupid. I admire that you continue with your
- 22:48Speaker 1: idiot secret, and I wish I could admire the fact
- 22:51Speaker 1: that you're an idiot every year. I get it. But
- 22:53Speaker 1: we're very optimistic and I love that about our fan base.
- 22:56Speaker 1: You know, I don't believe in the jinks, and I
- 22:57Speaker 1: could jinks to me right now, and I think I'm
- 22:58Speaker 1: going to But I've been crushing these parlay's I have,
- 23:05Speaker 1: and I thought, yeah, I think, I think on the show,
- 23:08Speaker 1: I've been seven and oh on bets, I'll tell you
- 23:10Speaker 1: I lost last night when the Rams Bills game. Well
- 23:13Speaker 1: that's a tough one to bet. Yeah, but I don't
- 23:14Speaker 1: like I'm bad about in the NFL. Actually don't do
- 23:17Speaker 1: very well. But I'm just talking the bets that I
- 23:19Speaker 1: share and say, hey, I feel pretty good about this.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I'm seven and no. I do lose beds. I don't
- 23:23Speaker 1: say I don't lose beds. I do win. In my
- 23:26Speaker 1: Draft Kings account, I started with two hundred bucks and
- 23:29Speaker 1: I meant like amazing, amazing, dude, I start with forty
- 23:33Speaker 1: dollars and have to recharge every month. Every month, have
- 23:36Speaker 1: to recharge, and but I think I've had to start
- 23:38Speaker 1: over again. I wouldn't I couldn't be able. I wouldn't
- 23:40Speaker 1: do it again. I couldn't do that again. I've been
- 23:42Speaker 1: on a good run, but I do lose. Sometimes I'm
- 23:44Speaker 1: not acting like I never lose. But on this show,
- 23:46Speaker 1: I've been seven and no, and I've hit both parlays
- 23:48Speaker 1: that we do here on Draft Kings with the last
- 23:51Speaker 1: two weeks, and they're gonna feat your mind again this
- 23:52Speaker 1: week up on the Draft Kings app. So go up
- 23:54Speaker 1: put in Bobby Sports and just download the Draft Kings
- 23:58Speaker 1: sports book gap download and I use the Bobby Sports.
- 24:00Speaker 1: First of all, if you bet just five bucks, you'll
- 24:02Speaker 1: get two hundred dollars in free bets. That's that's it.
- 24:06Speaker 1: You've got five dollars, then you get two hundred dollars
- 24:08Speaker 1: in free bets just because you have that. Though, don't
- 24:10Speaker 1: be stupid. Take your time, do smart bets. Smart bets
- 24:13Speaker 1: because when if I'm like two hundred on the Cowboys
- 24:22Speaker 1: this week, you can also do the same game parlay
- 24:24Speaker 1: for a shot and even bigger payout. I'll be honest,
- 24:26Speaker 1: at the same a game party last night on the
- 24:28Speaker 1: over and on the Rams when they fell down seven,
- 24:33Speaker 1: I didn't win. Let me see if I went total
- 24:36Speaker 1: total loss. They did hit the under, right, because it
- 24:38Speaker 1: was fifty something. It's like fifty two and a half. Um,
- 24:41Speaker 1: let's see. Oh yeah, I bet the over and they
- 24:44Speaker 1: did not hit. I didn't expect him to put up
- 24:46Speaker 1: just ten points. Yeah, I um lost all the bets
- 24:50Speaker 1: last night. So anyway, but the college game of the season,
- 24:52Speaker 1: and I don't share that. I like mine. I like
- 24:54Speaker 1: mine that to share here. So yeah, I just you
- 24:57Speaker 1: can buy multiple bets into one team and boom, there
- 24:59Speaker 1: you go. Here you go my parlay of the week.
- 25:02Speaker 1: I thought about just making a two games because it
- 25:03Speaker 1: had a better chance to win if I did just
- 25:05Speaker 1: do too, but I didn't. I'm sticking to three. If
- 25:10Speaker 1: I hit again, oh you're gonna be. Everybody gets on
- 25:13Speaker 1: the pony. There's no froe for a body to ride
- 25:14Speaker 1: the pony. I'm just telling you guys be If you
- 25:17Speaker 1: don't like this exact bet, go make your own. But
- 25:20Speaker 1: if I go three for three, I got. I got
- 25:22Speaker 1: limitless saddles, and I want you all to get on
- 25:25Speaker 1: because we're okay, here we go. I'm going North Carolina
- 25:30Speaker 1: minus seven versus Georgia State. Last week, Georgia State like
- 25:36Speaker 1: pretty good. I think they played South Carolina. That's South
- 25:39Speaker 1: the South Carolina game. Whoever they played, they played pretty well.
- 25:42Speaker 1: I remember, Mike, what you looked that up? They got
- 25:45Speaker 1: Tennessee minus six in Pittsburgh. That's opposite of what I said.
- 25:49Speaker 1: But okay, and finally, hold on, hold on, I don't
- 25:52Speaker 1: like that bet. No, we don't blow the whistle the best, Hey, Mike,
- 25:55Speaker 1: tell me if Georgia State played South Carolina um and
- 25:58Speaker 1: then Kentucky get six points of Florida. They did. They did, Okay,
- 26:02Speaker 1: Georgia State played South Carolina pretty well. That's kind of
- 26:06Speaker 1: up covering at the end. But I think that they shot,
- 26:09Speaker 1: They're shot. So I'm going North Carolina minus seven. North
- 26:16Speaker 1: kinda squeak one out at the end. So I like
- 26:18Speaker 1: both of those scenarios leading into this game. Georgia State
- 26:21Speaker 1: playing a little too well, North Carolina playing pretty piss
- 26:24Speaker 1: porn lucking out. I like for them to win this
- 26:26Speaker 1: by more than seven. I like for Tennessee to just
- 26:29Speaker 1: kick Pittsburgh in the n ads and I got Kentucky
- 26:31Speaker 1: plus six. That's probably the one that most people aren't
- 26:33Speaker 1: gonna feel like they're down with. I love Kentucky, you do,
- 26:36Speaker 1: yeah only. I mean you talked about earlier with the swamp,
- 26:38Speaker 1: but they're used to it. I mean they're in the SEC.
- 26:40Speaker 1: You know, Utah, that was a totally different animal for them.
- 26:43Speaker 1: I'm putting down a hundred bucks for if we had
- 26:44Speaker 1: have seven hundred dollars. If it wins, Wow, you're crazy.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Twenty one and up. Most eligible states age varies by jurisdiction, eligibility,
- 26:52Speaker 1: restricting supply ce draft Kings dot com, slash sports book
- 26:55Speaker 1: for terms and resources. Gambling problem. When a hundred gambler
- 26:58Speaker 1: in Tennessee colleg Texas, Tennessee line nine in New York
- 27:02Speaker 1: call eight seven seven eight hoping why are text hoping?
- 27:05Speaker 1: Why for six seven three six nine? And I didn't
- 27:08Speaker 1: mess up that at Also, Kevin doesn't have to edit that,
- 27:10Speaker 1: which I know he hates. That has impressive. Okay, we
- 27:15Speaker 1: have an interview with Damn All that's coming up in
- 27:17Speaker 1: a little bit. Who It's awesome because he was the
- 27:20Speaker 1: head coach in Mississippi state, head coach at Florida, He
- 27:24Speaker 1: under Urban Meyer at Florida when they want to national
- 27:27Speaker 1: championships at Bowling Green, at Utah, he coached Tebow, He
- 27:33Speaker 1: coached Alex Smith, he coached Cam Newton, he coached Come on,
- 27:39Speaker 1: who am I for getting Dak? Oh? Yeah, Dad, I
- 27:43Speaker 1: asked him. I asked him right there, we do half
- 27:45Speaker 1: our It's I really enjoy my time with him, and
- 27:48Speaker 1: so you'll hear that coming up. I did meet Derek
- 27:50Speaker 1: Jeter this week. Oh, you have to tell us about this.
- 27:53Speaker 1: It's awesome. I met him yesterday, so we're we're actually
- 27:55Speaker 1: recording this on Friday. We usually doing Thursday late, but
- 27:59Speaker 1: because I was in the Today's Show all week, I
- 28:02Speaker 1: didn't get into Late last night. But one of the
- 28:04Speaker 1: guests on Thursday Thursday right Thurdays mixed up was Derek Jeter,
- 28:10Speaker 1: And when they told me he was coming on the
- 28:13Speaker 1: show like a week before, I was like, ah, but
- 28:15Speaker 1: this gets canceled. Because I always felt like anything I'm
- 28:17Speaker 1: super excited about gets canceler, so I try not to
- 28:19Speaker 1: get excited. So I didn't really get that excited because
- 28:21Speaker 1: I thought he's gonna cancel. He's gonna cancel, And every
- 28:22Speaker 1: day we got closer as he canceled. Yet he had
- 28:25Speaker 1: all right, And then I'm sitting down and he's coming
- 28:29Speaker 1: on at something some point in the hour. I'm sitting
- 28:31Speaker 1: down in the room and we were in a different
- 28:33Speaker 1: room because it was a little less jokey because the
- 28:36Speaker 1: queen was about to die, and so we had moved
- 28:38Speaker 1: to a different set just in case. We were already
- 28:40Speaker 1: sitting down and we could break the news. And I'm
- 28:42Speaker 1: sitting down, there's always people everywhere drinking our commercials. I
- 28:44Speaker 1: just look over and he's just sitting right next to me.
- 28:46Speaker 1: He's like, hey man. I was like, it was one
- 28:49Speaker 1: of I'm lucky enough I get to be around a
- 28:51Speaker 1: bunch of celebrities at this point. So but it's those
- 28:54Speaker 1: that are either extremely so successful at what they do
- 29:00Speaker 1: or once that you admired as a kid, those are
- 29:02Speaker 1: those are the special ones. Otherwise, just people who are
- 29:06Speaker 1: pretty good at something and they luked out that what
- 29:08Speaker 1: they're good at our culture finds value. But Jeter is different.
- 29:12Speaker 1: I'm not a Yankee fan at all, but I was
- 29:14Speaker 1: so excited because Derek Jeter is one of really baseball
- 29:16Speaker 1: grades of all time. And so I was like, hey,
- 29:20Speaker 1: and Hoda told me he's one of the nicest guys ever.
- 29:24Speaker 1: But that's the Hooda, you know, that's the Hoda people chang.
- 29:28Speaker 1: You know. I'm just low lo me. That's and so
- 29:31Speaker 1: he's like, hey man, how's it going. And I was like,
- 29:32Speaker 1: I took a second, I went whoa. I didn't say
- 29:34Speaker 1: it out loud, but my mind you probably noticed that.
- 29:36Speaker 1: And I said, hey man, it's really good to meet you.
- 29:38Speaker 1: I'm big fan. Um Bobby. He goes, I'm Derek. You
- 29:40Speaker 1: can see you, and we just kind of talked for
- 29:42Speaker 1: a second, for like thirty seconds if I mean, it
- 29:46Speaker 1: felt a lot longer than that probably, but you only
- 29:48Speaker 1: have like two minutes in between commercial. What's your first
- 29:50Speaker 1: go to question? Like, how do you start a conversation?
- 29:53Speaker 1: That's a great question. What did I say? We're sitting there,
- 29:56Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I do remember, I don't remember. No. No.
- 29:58Speaker 1: He was coming on to promote his baseball card company,
- 30:02Speaker 1: where there's like trading and there's also the digital you know. Yeah,
- 30:08Speaker 1: And I was like, dude, I got a lot of
- 30:10Speaker 1: baseball cards. That was as I got a lot of
- 30:15Speaker 1: baseball cards and it was like, oh yeah, I said,
- 30:17Speaker 1: well I used to. I said, I don't anymore, but
- 30:19Speaker 1: I just collected like crazy, So this is super cool,
- 30:20Speaker 1: especially with memorabilia. And he was like yes, And so
- 30:23Speaker 1: then I got back to be an adult real quick,
- 30:24Speaker 1: and I was like, how did that? Had this thing
- 30:27Speaker 1: get going? It's like, yeah, I talked about the development
- 30:28Speaker 1: of it that though. That's super cool, And then hold
- 30:30Speaker 1: It came and that's how we started. Then Holda sat
- 30:32Speaker 1: down and she was like, you guys getting along and
- 30:35Speaker 1: I yes, I am, And so then we went on
- 30:40Speaker 1: on the air and then we hung out for like
- 30:41Speaker 1: three or four minutes after talking, and he was just
- 30:44Speaker 1: the nicest guy. He doesn't have to be he could
- 30:47Speaker 1: have been a fine guy just coming in despress. How
- 30:50Speaker 1: good to see you guys out the door. He hung around,
- 30:52Speaker 1: he was generous of people. He took pictures like. I
- 30:54Speaker 1: didn't want to go up and be like, hey, man,
- 30:55Speaker 1: I get a picture, but the photographer knew I was
- 30:59Speaker 1: a fan, and he was like, hey, Bob, you get
- 31:02Speaker 1: a picture with Derek. I wish you would have said, hey, Derek,
- 31:04Speaker 1: we need you for this picture. I'd know him well
- 31:07Speaker 1: enough to have him set up like that. And uh
- 31:09Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, said Derek, do you might He goes,
- 31:11Speaker 1: I don't mind, man, I'm here, let's do it. It
- 31:12Speaker 1: was just super cool. So probably total eight nine minutes together,
- 31:16Speaker 1: but just like a real kind this position. That's awesome. Yeah,
- 31:22Speaker 1: it's all. It was really cool. What's you know? I
- 31:23Speaker 1: would like to ask this question, what's this? What's he likes?
- 31:26Speaker 1: He tall as he skinny, ripped, Like, what's the whole
- 31:29Speaker 1: physical feature? Normal? Normal, dude, That's the best way I
- 31:32Speaker 1: could describe him. Your height. Yeah, you guys a picture
- 31:36Speaker 1: of us together and I mightn't see anything really drastic.
- 31:39Speaker 1: It might be exactly the same. Yeah, I did see that.
- 31:41Speaker 1: You guys look about the same. Ye, you're on his
- 31:43Speaker 1: story right now. Yeah, he put me up on his
- 31:44Speaker 1: Instagram story. He did so. In the first picture on mine,
- 31:49Speaker 1: he looks about it inch taller, but but he's I'm
- 31:53Speaker 1: he's probably, but I'm standing behind him on the second
- 31:56Speaker 1: one where I'm kind of standing beside him, well, he's
- 32:00Speaker 1: about behind me. I'm so he may be half in
- 32:03Speaker 1: taller than I am. What's the most today, Mike, Derek
- 32:06Speaker 1: Jeter Hight. But if you're a Red Sox fan, like
- 32:09Speaker 1: I know you are, you'd hate it because he was
- 32:12Speaker 1: so nice. Yeah, you probably would like to hear always
- 32:14Speaker 1: what a dude mostly taller than I thought? Okay, yeah,
- 32:25Speaker 1: now he's one of those guys were I mean, you
- 32:27Speaker 1: tried to hate him. He just couldn't. You know. There's
- 32:29Speaker 1: other players on that team, especially that you could easily hate,
- 32:32Speaker 1: but not him, like like a Rod. Yeah, the game
- 32:35Speaker 1: last night, Bills and Rams. We mentioned it earlier, but
- 32:40Speaker 1: I just thought it'd be a better game, a little closer,
- 32:42Speaker 1: and and I think it could have been a better
- 32:44Speaker 1: game that the interception that Stafford through maybe in the
- 32:47Speaker 1: third quarter, uh, when they were down seven or maybe
- 32:51Speaker 1: down fourteen, they were driving. I think that kind of
- 32:53Speaker 1: sealed a deal there. But give me a thought from
- 32:57Speaker 1: the game last night. I would go to you first.
- 32:59Speaker 1: I think it's amazing that von Miller can change the
- 33:02Speaker 1: defense like that. Boy, you're right, I mean, I don't really.
- 33:06Speaker 1: I'm assuming that he's just such a leader to that
- 33:09Speaker 1: defense because Great Point did the same thing with the Rams.
- 33:12Speaker 1: They win the Super Bowl. He goes to Buffalo and
- 33:15Speaker 1: just that defense. I mean they had what eight sacks,
- 33:17Speaker 1: they had three picks, the three picks, two picks, I
- 33:20Speaker 1: don't know, they were everywhere. That Buffalo defense is amazing,
- 33:24Speaker 1: and I'm assuming it's von Miller joining that team. When
- 33:27Speaker 1: he sacked Stafford last night, one of those and he's
- 33:29Speaker 1: up and he's celebrating, I had that thought. I was like, God, dang,
- 33:33Speaker 1: I just picture von Miller be two h years old.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I googled his age and I thought he was two
- 33:38Speaker 1: hundred years old. How old was he? No, he's he's
- 33:40Speaker 1: like thirty two three three? Yeah I was. I told
- 33:44Speaker 1: my wife he's my age for sure. He's just played
- 33:46Speaker 1: high level for so long, so long, and then he's
- 33:49Speaker 1: been on three teams now, and so you just feel
- 33:51Speaker 1: like that's what journeymen do, and they go to their
- 33:53Speaker 1: third team after they don't have it left. But yeah,
- 33:56Speaker 1: it's awesome. And when those teams changed drastically when he
- 33:59Speaker 1: joined him, you gotta believe that this is his leadership.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Kevin thought from the game last night. Josh Allen already
- 34:05Speaker 1: talked about a little bit. But that guy, I mean,
- 34:08Speaker 1: especially as a Patriots fan, I'm like, we gotta play
- 34:10Speaker 1: this guy twice a year for the next ten years.
- 34:12Speaker 1: This is gonna be brutal. Mac Junes better pick it up.
- 34:15Speaker 1: But that was my biggest takeaway was just how much
- 34:17Speaker 1: of a freak and how good he was when he
- 34:19Speaker 1: runs the ball. He runs the ball. He don't care man.
- 34:24Speaker 1: I mean, he he'll slide occasionally if it's really odds
- 34:27Speaker 1: aren't good for him, like straight up, but he will
- 34:29Speaker 1: run through people, especially near the goal line, and he
- 34:31Speaker 1: head first. He dunked over Bobby Wagner and he's just
- 34:35Speaker 1: a big dude. Yeah, And they were, you know, talking
- 34:38Speaker 1: about it last night. They're like, you have to actually
- 34:40Speaker 1: account for him as one of the people, not just
- 34:43Speaker 1: as he's throwing but one of the people with the
- 34:45Speaker 1: ball because you can draw back into coverage. You can
- 34:47Speaker 1: play man. But you can do that and all of
- 34:48Speaker 1: a sudden, there he goes. And but you don't want
- 34:51Speaker 1: to tackle him head up either. He's a big guy. Yeah,
- 34:54Speaker 1: that's for me. I think the takeaway was that I
- 34:57Speaker 1: still am not convinced sta for darm is all the
- 35:00Speaker 1: way good. I thought the same thing too. I didn't
- 35:03Speaker 1: watch it to go his arm ain't good, and I did,
- 35:06Speaker 1: but I definitely didn't go his arm is good, Like
- 35:09Speaker 1: I'm still in that mm hmm are they He did
- 35:14Speaker 1: try to chunk it deep a couple but either receiver
- 35:16Speaker 1: ran around, ran or wrong route, or he was way off,
- 35:20Speaker 1: way off. Other than the yeah, other than a little
- 35:22Speaker 1: short dink and dunks of Cooper cup and Cooper would
- 35:24Speaker 1: do the rest, it wasn't. He didn't do much, So
- 35:27Speaker 1: I guess I didn't expect him to come out just
- 35:30Speaker 1: just haul and deep the whole game. But I thought
- 35:33Speaker 1: maybe i'd have a better idea, like, oh, okay, he's
- 35:35Speaker 1: out right that right. But yeah, that is my takeaway
- 35:37Speaker 1: that I still don't really have a feeling about Stafford's arm.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Do you think after seeing last night. The Rams are
- 35:42Speaker 1: kind of a little lower in the whole. Could be
- 35:45Speaker 1: a playoff, super Bowl contender. It's like playing Georgia. Honestly,
- 35:51Speaker 1: I think you have an early season Stafford who's probably
- 35:54Speaker 1: his arm. They don't want to just let it, let
- 35:56Speaker 1: it go right now. And also the Bills are so good,
- 35:59Speaker 1: so I don't want to make that can Harrison. Now,
- 36:01Speaker 1: are they the favorite? No, but they weren't anyway, right.
- 36:04Speaker 1: I know they won last year, but what are they?
- 36:06Speaker 1: Four or five from Vegas or something like that. I
- 36:08Speaker 1: think it was Tampa, was Buffalo, Tampa, Green Bay And
- 36:15Speaker 1: so again I don't have a thought about that yet
- 36:18Speaker 1: because I've only watched him play probably the best team.
- 36:20Speaker 1: It was weird to watching him rely on Cooper Cup
- 36:22Speaker 1: so much. And I know that's his dude and all,
- 36:24Speaker 1: but it was almost like he didn't trust anyone else
- 36:27Speaker 1: on that fielding Cooper Cup. So maybe that's just kind
- 36:30Speaker 1: of more games he gets used to. We're missing Van
- 36:33Speaker 1: Jefferson to write, you know, he's another another big guy
- 36:36Speaker 1: for them. But yeah, oh b J wasn't obviously not
- 36:38Speaker 1: the team. He was there. Did you see that he
- 36:40Speaker 1: was there? He was awkward sitting there watching the game
- 36:42Speaker 1: win stand and he was in the pregame show. Well,
- 36:44Speaker 1: he doesn't have a team and he lives probably in
- 36:47Speaker 1: l A. Yeah, for sure, he goes to the game.
- 36:50Speaker 1: It's like it's like that old guy that goes to
- 36:52Speaker 1: college and comes back to high school. Yeah, high school game,
- 36:56Speaker 1: and he's like, yeah, he used to be the man here.
- 36:58Speaker 1: It reminded me a little bit too kind. Are you
- 37:00Speaker 1: irving when he would go to the NETS games because
- 37:02Speaker 1: he couldn't when he had COVID A bit different. Was
- 37:04Speaker 1: weird to say him walk in and sit in the
- 37:06Speaker 1: side because he wasn't vaccinated. So it's like you can
- 37:09Speaker 1: be a fan and watch the game. So we'd go
- 37:11Speaker 1: in and sit in the stands. Remember when Kevin Durant
- 37:13Speaker 1: and like rolled around with the camera and we'll like
- 37:15Speaker 1: show up to press conferences like is that n So
- 37:20Speaker 1: let's talk one more thing NFL. NFL game you're looking
- 37:22Speaker 1: forward to the most, um eddie. I mean, I have
- 37:26Speaker 1: to go with Cowboys Bucks. And the only reason I
- 37:28Speaker 1: say is because yes, they are my team, but I
- 37:31Speaker 1: do want to see what they're made of. Like this
- 37:33Speaker 1: is it. This is a big one. This is a
- 37:35Speaker 1: big one. They started the season last year with the
- 37:38Speaker 1: same matchup against the Bucks. It was a close game.
- 37:40Speaker 1: We lost that game, so this is a rematch and
- 37:42Speaker 1: I want to I mean, to me, this is gonna
- 37:44Speaker 1: tell me a lot about how the Cowboys are gonna
- 37:46Speaker 1: play this year. It's a big one. Yeah, what about
- 37:49Speaker 1: you on Mine is going to be between the Raiders
- 37:51Speaker 1: and Chargers. This a f C West is everybody's talking
- 37:55Speaker 1: about the greatest division of all time. People are staying
- 37:57Speaker 1: So I'm really excited to see how it gets go
- 38:00Speaker 1: early on with the Raiders and Josh McDaniels and the Chargers.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Justin Herbert, I just think it's gonna be a fun game. Yeah,
- 38:06Speaker 1: I'd be I'd be good. Yeah, I makes just see
- 38:08Speaker 1: Vegas is who Car gets the ball to? So many
- 38:13Speaker 1: options there like Renfro obviously last year was great and
- 38:18Speaker 1: Waller played really well the tight end. But now they
- 38:20Speaker 1: got the best wide receiver in the NFL there, and
- 38:25Speaker 1: is I mean, is that what Car needs? Because no,
- 38:28Speaker 1: if you had a bunch of turds, no matter how
- 38:30Speaker 1: good you are, there's a reason Brady wanted to go
- 38:32Speaker 1: to a place where he had weapons. Because even Brady
- 38:35Speaker 1: being the best. You gotta have weapons. So I'm excited
- 38:41Speaker 1: about that game too, just to see what they're able
- 38:43Speaker 1: to do. Uh in Vegas. I mean, I love Baker right,
- 38:50Speaker 1: I almost chose that one. There are just things that
- 38:54Speaker 1: I want to see, Like I want to see Baker Mayfield.
- 38:57Speaker 1: I want him to win. I want to see the
- 38:59Speaker 1: Titans play because I want to see if Derrick Henry's foot,
- 39:02Speaker 1: like if they let it okay, is he all the
- 39:04Speaker 1: way back? If so, are you letting them roll? Um?
- 39:07Speaker 1: You know, we have a me and some friends, Matt
- 39:12Speaker 1: Stell being one of them, who is the country singer.
- 39:15Speaker 1: There's six of us. I believe six mightbe eight. I
- 39:18Speaker 1: forget and you get in and you go one to
- 39:21Speaker 1: all the way down the line, and you have to
- 39:22Speaker 1: pick an NFL team and you go backward. It's like
- 39:24Speaker 1: a snake draft, but you you pick your team and
- 39:28Speaker 1: every time they win, you win money. Every time they lose,
- 39:31Speaker 1: you pay money. And so obviously you want to pick
- 39:34Speaker 1: the best teams, but you have every team has to
- 39:36Speaker 1: be picked. So at the end you're like going, all right, well,
- 39:41Speaker 1: how do I take the Seahawks Because some of those
- 39:44Speaker 1: bad teams are going to lose your money, but trying
- 39:46Speaker 1: to forget the bad teams. So my team that I've
- 39:49Speaker 1: really strategically picked is the I don't I want to
- 39:57Speaker 1: say it? Come on, you can do it. How about
- 40:01Speaker 1: the Cowboy let's go guaranteed. So I do have some
- 40:08Speaker 1: other teams because put the Cowboys are the one that
- 40:11Speaker 1: I really was like, Okay, this one will make a
- 40:13Speaker 1: make or break me. Is your wallet ready for all
- 40:14Speaker 1: that money? It's already to say like that, how many
- 40:18Speaker 1: mentions can we get to the Cowboys? That's what suck?
- 40:25Speaker 1: So I need the Cowboys to win, Eddie, Yeah, man,
- 40:28Speaker 1: we got you need the Cowboys. Sometimes I feel like
- 40:32Speaker 1: I do I get that jersey up? You know I
- 40:34Speaker 1: do that? Um. I think though, if I'm just picking
- 40:36Speaker 1: a game, I think Kansas in Arizona is gonna be
- 40:39Speaker 1: interesting to me because I think my homes is a
- 40:41Speaker 1: man on a mission. I think he's pissed about what
- 40:43Speaker 1: happened Cincinnati. I think he's pissing everybody that says he sucks. Now.
- 40:47Speaker 1: He hasn't lost anything. He lost Tyreek. But I think
- 40:50Speaker 1: now what he because he do as Kelsey, what he
- 40:52Speaker 1: has in his other receivers. I think as a group
- 40:56Speaker 1: he has a better group of options than he did.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Everybody has a hyphen. That's cool. All the receivers makesterous
- 41:04Speaker 1: to see that. Also drafted my homes my fantasy league,
- 41:06Speaker 1: and so you know I have that interest there too,
- 41:09Speaker 1: But I'm not trying to make it too fantasy based.
- 41:11Speaker 1: But that's that's the deal there. It'll be good first
- 41:14Speaker 1: week football. Um, we're gonna get to Dan mollin in
- 41:16Speaker 1: just second, but first let's do our okay commercial, yea commercial, okay, okay,
- 41:22Speaker 1: let me do a commercial. Then we're gonna do our day.

- 42:43Speaker 1: mentioned this about best real Quick two bets I feel
- 42:44Speaker 1: pretty good about by NFL wise, I feel pretty good
- 42:47Speaker 1: about Carolina making the playoffs. They are not a favorite
- 42:49Speaker 1: to make the playoffs. I think they're gonna make that.
- 42:50Speaker 1: I think they can go nine and eight. I think
- 42:54Speaker 1: that might make it. I think they can. It's it's
- 42:57Speaker 1: weird to say nine and eight with a new eighteen
- 42:59Speaker 1: weeks it's weird. I think they can go nine and they.
- 43:02Speaker 1: I bet Carolina to make the playoffs. It's pretty good
- 43:05Speaker 1: odds right now. Let me I can look real quick
- 43:07Speaker 1: and tell you. There we go to my bets open.
- 43:09Speaker 1: I have Carolina Panthers to make the playoffs at plus
- 43:12Speaker 1: three fifty, so I bet fifty bucks to make It's
- 43:15Speaker 1: pretty good. So my other one is the Baltimore Ravens
- 43:20Speaker 1: to win the a f C North. I think Baltimore
- 43:23Speaker 1: could really really be good this year. But I have
- 43:25Speaker 1: them at plus one forty, so I bet fifty to
- 43:27Speaker 1: make one. So there's that. There you go. Okay, day
- 43:32Speaker 1: of the night, Kevin, Alright, have something here? What we
- 43:38Speaker 1: got something for this? Yeah? Oh wait, the gingile that's
- 43:43Speaker 1: what we're talking about. Okay, yeah, yeah, all right, let's

- 44:27Speaker 1: we're supposed to. This is dang Dang of the week.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Kick off, Kevin, all right, we all know that coach
- 44:35Speaker 1: Oh had a quick out with l s U last year, right,
- 44:39Speaker 1: and he was always good for a great sound bite,
- 44:41Speaker 1: and this week he talked about getting fired and his
- 44:44Speaker 1: buyout and Mike, if you get hit that clip from
- 44:46Speaker 1: you real quick, coach, you got seven point one millions
- 44:50Speaker 1: on your contract. We're gonna give it to you. I said,
- 44:53Speaker 1: what time you want me to leave? What do you
- 44:55Speaker 1: want me? So? When I heard that, I said, dang coach.
- 45:04Speaker 1: You know the media loves it. Oh yeah, he's great, Eddie.
- 45:07Speaker 1: How you doing your dang my day? I got I
- 45:09Speaker 1: got a dang for you. I've never I've played fantasy
- 45:11Speaker 1: for what ten plus years, I've never seen this where
- 45:15Speaker 1: a team says that the starting quarterback is Cam Akers
- 45:18Speaker 1: of the Los Angeles or Rams starting quarterback. All the
- 45:21Speaker 1: depth charts running back, all the depth charts going into
- 45:24Speaker 1: the season, and you watched last night and Cam Akers
- 45:27Speaker 1: is on the bench. I bet you ninety of fantasy
- 45:32Speaker 1: cam Acres owners did started Cam Akers and he sat
- 45:35Speaker 1: on the bench. He went touched the ball three times
- 45:37Speaker 1: the entire night, and all those owners are going, dang, dang,
- 45:44Speaker 1: mine's like a dang. Dak Prescott tweaks the surge reparent
- 45:48Speaker 1: ankle like Cowboys practice. Dang dang. I know start I know,
- 45:54Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott tweaked his ankle. Uh. They
- 45:58Speaker 1: say it sounds like nothing serious. Did you hear how
- 46:03Speaker 1: he tried new cleats. I'm like, dude, don't blame it
- 46:05Speaker 1: on his shoes. Don't you break those in like months ago? Yeah,
- 46:08Speaker 1: he was trying to pay on New Jordan and elevens
- 46:11Speaker 1: he switched back to Jordan once for the game. Mike
- 46:13Speaker 1: d made the Joe we're talking earlier. He's like, what
- 46:15Speaker 1: was he Dick Sporting Good trying a game on Sunday? Dang, dude, dang,
- 46:21Speaker 1: that's all dang. So how did our day had your dango? Uh?
- 46:25Speaker 1: Oh for coach? Oh? Yeah, just how did your dango? Uh?
- 46:28Speaker 1: Dang coach? O dang dang? All those fantasy owners of
- 46:33Speaker 1: cam Akers dang and mine is dak What are you thinking? Dan?
- 46:43Speaker 1: Dang dang dang of the week. Please follow us over
- 46:48Speaker 1: at twenty five whistles. I love this interview with Dan Mullen,
- 46:51Speaker 1: former college football coach now ESPN analyst. Uh, he's over
- 46:54Speaker 1: to ESPN. He it's just so much. Began coaching with
- 46:57Speaker 1: Urban Meyer Bowling Green MS, Sippy State uh Wan to
- 47:02Speaker 1: national championships at Florida as an assistant, went to number
- 47:04Speaker 1: one Mississippi State as a head coach, then went to
- 47:07Speaker 1: Florida the head coach there. I think, yeah, ran a
- 47:09Speaker 1: litt too early. If I'll be honest with you, I
- 47:10Speaker 1: don't think they gave him And I wanted to say that,
- 47:13Speaker 1: but like, look look at doing this year. You think
- 47:14Speaker 1: that's just all I didn't. Those are your guys. Yeah,
- 47:17Speaker 1: that's it. Yeah, I knew we wanted to say that too.
- 47:19Speaker 1: I'll be honest. I felt he wanted to say, but
- 47:21Speaker 1: he didn't. Uh, So here we go. Let's go to
- 47:25Speaker 1: Dan Mullen here on Whistles coach person ball, It's honored
- 47:29Speaker 1: to have you. Just a big fan in general, have
- 47:31Speaker 1: been for a long time, even though me being an
- 47:34Speaker 1: Arkansas guy, I hated playing you when you get when
- 47:36Speaker 1: your Mississippi State and I hated going down there with
- 47:38Speaker 1: those as a coach and you have the cow bells,
- 47:40Speaker 1: do you just get numbed to it? I mean you
- 47:42Speaker 1: embrace it. You embrace whatever advantage you have, so you know,
- 47:46Speaker 1: I mean it was it was always a thing of beauty.
- 47:48Speaker 1: And you know, why would you learn traditions? Um, there's
- 47:52Speaker 1: something there, there's something really special about him and and
- 47:55Speaker 1: uh you know, and that's when some one of the
- 47:57Speaker 1: things we learned at Mississippi State is how important may
- 48:00Speaker 1: the people. I mean, I get it, I get I
- 48:02Speaker 1: get traditions. But that was the world. I would go
- 48:05Speaker 1: and leave with a headache and I would be like,
- 48:07Speaker 1: how how do they do this? Every day? Every week.
- 48:09Speaker 1: This cow bell's NonStop, and then you know there'd be
- 48:12Speaker 1: a point to where people go, hey, you need to
- 48:13Speaker 1: put that certain cow bell away because it would be
- 48:16Speaker 1: one had like a horn built in. People are coming
- 48:18Speaker 1: up a country. It's like those prison shows where they
- 48:19Speaker 1: can make a radio out of Bologne. They were making
- 48:22Speaker 1: like cow bell horn spectacles. And so you know, Starkville
- 48:27Speaker 1: was never my favorite place to go because you always
- 48:30Speaker 1: we're at a really competitive or really good team. So anyway,
- 48:33Speaker 1: all that to say, just just super pump that you're here.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Thank you. Do you watch game tape back? Because I've
- 48:38Speaker 1: been watching on ESPN? Do you watch game tape back
- 48:41Speaker 1: now and critique yourself? Um from back when I played?
- 48:44Speaker 1: I do no, no, no no, like you being an analyst.
- 48:47Speaker 1: Are you watching yourself now and going all right, here's
- 48:49Speaker 1: what you gotta do better? Oh? You know what, I'm
- 48:52Speaker 1: pretty Fortunately my wife was a network TV anchor, UM,
- 48:56Speaker 1: and I'm very coachable. So now with everybody you know
- 48:58Speaker 1: at ESPN. As soon as I'm done, I kind of
- 49:00Speaker 1: ask everybody. I'm like, tell me what you saw, what
- 49:02Speaker 1: did you like? What did you not like? Um? You know,
- 49:05Speaker 1: I come home. My wife's got a kind of broken
- 49:07Speaker 1: down for me what I did well, what I did poorly.
- 49:09Speaker 1: And I guess that's being a perfectionist through all the years.
- 49:12Speaker 1: So I kind of I do evaluate everything that went
- 49:14Speaker 1: on and see if I how I got better and
- 49:17Speaker 1: or how I can get better more important. It's funny
- 49:20Speaker 1: you said that because all this week I've been I'm
- 49:22Speaker 1: in New York as I'm recording this with you, and
- 49:24Speaker 1: I've been hosting the Today Show with Hoda and every
- 49:27Speaker 1: day when I finished, I go to her and I say, hey,
- 49:28Speaker 1: how can I make you better? How can I make
- 49:32Speaker 1: you look better? What can I do better? Every single day?
- 49:34Speaker 1: And usually those notes when I presented that way come back. Uh.
- 49:39Speaker 1: And I feel like I grow every single day being
- 49:42Speaker 1: on camera for a whole hour because they're just little things.
- 49:45Speaker 1: Maybe you're dealing with this too, where sometimes when I'm
- 49:48Speaker 1: just sitting there and I'm not talking, I just like
- 49:51Speaker 1: check out with my eyes and it's like sometimes you
- 49:53Speaker 1: gotta just gotta stay focused, you gotta be looking at
- 49:55Speaker 1: the camera the whole time. Are you dealing with that
- 49:56Speaker 1: at all? You know what it is? Um? You know
- 49:58Speaker 1: I get that from my wife. Sometimes. Pay come on,
- 50:00Speaker 1: make sure you're smiling with your eyes. That's what I
- 50:02Speaker 1: get a lot, right, if you smile with your eyes
- 50:04Speaker 1: on camera or no, the uh, I try to just
- 50:07Speaker 1: keep a big fake smile the whole time because now
- 50:10Speaker 1: I do like my constant is just I just hold
- 50:12Speaker 1: it because it doesn't look as awkward as it feel.
- 50:14Speaker 1: It feels really awkward, but when I watch it back,
- 50:16Speaker 1: I'm like, all right, it feels awkward, but it looks
- 50:19Speaker 1: pretty good. Great job on ESPN. I'm really enjoying it.
- 50:22Speaker 1: And SEC network like, obviously you're very knowledgeable, but this
- 50:26Speaker 1: is something you're hoping not to do for a long
- 50:28Speaker 1: time by and I asked that is then like back
- 50:30Speaker 1: into coaching. No, I'm really enjoying this, you know. And
- 50:33Speaker 1: it's um it's a different way of life, you know,
- 50:36Speaker 1: and and you get to uh, I get to experience
- 50:38Speaker 1: a lot of things I have never gotten to experience before.
- 50:42Speaker 1: And I'm so waiting to see what comes up. I've
- 50:43Speaker 1: never had a day off in the fall where you know,
- 50:45Speaker 1: you get to kind of enjoyed life. I'm getting to
- 50:47Speaker 1: go to my son's playing his football for the first
- 50:49Speaker 1: time this year. I'm getting to go to his games,
- 50:52Speaker 1: uh and watch him play um, you know, be be
- 50:55Speaker 1: involved in the kids lives and and uh so it's
- 50:58Speaker 1: something that I'm really enjoying. And and I'm not in
- 51:00Speaker 1: a rush to get back into coaching in in any way,
- 51:02Speaker 1: shape or form, and and but I do think you
- 51:05Speaker 1: want to find something that kind of fulfills you. And
- 51:07Speaker 1: I've really enjoyed TV and hopefully it continues. Um, I
- 51:11Speaker 1: continue to grow in that field and you get that
- 51:13Speaker 1: fulfillment into really enjoying doing it and kind of go
- 51:17Speaker 1: down that career path. When you started as a g A.
- 51:20Speaker 1: If I'm correct, you are a g A Syracuse and
- 51:22Speaker 1: Notre Dame. Is that right? Oh? Yeah, yeah, So when
- 51:25Speaker 1: you're a g A way back then, what is your
- 51:28Speaker 1: role as a g A and how do you move
- 51:30Speaker 1: from that to a position coach? I have to be
- 51:32Speaker 1: really great at it. Um, you know what I think
- 51:35Speaker 1: you just you take advantage of opportunities. You know, I've
- 51:38Speaker 1: always been someone that is um that that really believes
- 51:42Speaker 1: when an opportunity presents itself, you better be prepared for
- 51:45Speaker 1: that moment. And so when I was a graticist, and
- 51:48Speaker 1: you would sit there and work NonStop. When you learn
- 51:51Speaker 1: a lot of football, you know, because you're breaking down
- 51:53Speaker 1: the defense. You're learning everything of how the defense works,
- 51:56Speaker 1: what they're trying to do, get inside of their mind
- 51:58Speaker 1: and how they're gonna do it. Then you know, you're
- 52:00Speaker 1: you're drawing up the cards and the game plans and
- 52:02Speaker 1: everything that we're doing, you know, as the coach's game planning,
- 52:05Speaker 1: you're making all the notes and doing a lot of
- 52:06Speaker 1: the gruntwork. Uh. And I was somebody that always wanted
- 52:10Speaker 1: to learn you know when um, when you're when you're
- 52:13Speaker 1: a gratisism and you're not out on the road recruiting
- 52:15Speaker 1: a lot, and so when you're in there, um post
- 52:18Speaker 1: season doing post season cut ups. Uh, you know, I
- 52:21Speaker 1: would sit there and the coaches say, hey, these are
- 52:24Speaker 1: these are what we're looking for, and I would get
- 52:26Speaker 1: that done, and then I would do about a hundred
- 52:28Speaker 1: of my own trying to find you know, be able
- 52:30Speaker 1: to present to them say, you know what I found
- 52:33Speaker 1: out this information, I noticed this, I realized this, we
- 52:36Speaker 1: can do this better. Here here's a statistical breakdown that
- 52:39Speaker 1: we hadn't looked at before. Um, you know, all of
- 52:42Speaker 1: those things. And always pride of myself on finding new
- 52:45Speaker 1: ways to to find to improve the program. One and
- 52:49Speaker 1: to anytime anybody would ask for something, you know, I
- 52:52Speaker 1: learned that early on and say hey, hey, what's what's
- 52:55Speaker 1: going on on second down and four? Once they crossed
- 52:57Speaker 1: the fifties, I already have that answer. I don't have
- 52:59Speaker 1: to go look it up. I can already present. And
- 53:02Speaker 1: so you learn an awful lot about football. And when
- 53:06Speaker 1: you know, when I was a grad assistant at Notre
- 53:08Speaker 1: Dame and and Urban Meyer got hired as the head
- 53:10Speaker 1: coach of Bowling Green and he said, hey, I'd like
- 53:12Speaker 1: to bring you with me. Um, And I said, I'm
- 53:14Speaker 1: really a quarterbacks guy. That's my spend, that's where I
- 53:17Speaker 1: that's where I am. And uh He's like, all right,
- 53:20Speaker 1: you can be the quarterback coach and um, you know,
- 53:23Speaker 1: and I just took advantage of that opportunity. I wanted
- 53:25Speaker 1: to be prepared for that moment when the time came.
- 53:28Speaker 1: What do you make as a quarterback coach of Bowling
- 53:30Speaker 1: Green back? Then, I can't imagine it's a whole lot. Yeah,
- 53:33Speaker 1: I think we're maybe like thirty tho dollars a year.
- 53:36Speaker 1: You know, we were top fifteen in the country. So
- 53:38Speaker 1: you know, how they coaching coach coaching. Everybody looks one
- 53:43Speaker 1: of the hardest things in coaching. Everybody looks at the
- 53:45Speaker 1: head coach is salary. Um, there's an awful lot of
- 53:48Speaker 1: people that work, and there's a lot of young people
- 53:50Speaker 1: that kind of come up in the industry. Um, and
- 53:54Speaker 1: you know everybody. I always talked to young guys getting
- 53:56Speaker 1: into it, and I always like, Okay, hey, coach, I
- 53:58Speaker 1: want to get into coaching. I'm card Let's let me say,
- 54:01Speaker 1: why don't we call up to South Dakota State and
- 54:04Speaker 1: see if they have anything. No, Like, now, I really
- 54:06Speaker 1: want to coach at Florida, but you like, it doesn't
- 54:09Speaker 1: work that way. Okay, Let's let's go coach at a
- 54:11Speaker 1: D three school in Minnesota next year and learn the ropes,
- 54:16Speaker 1: learn how to do it. And because you know, it's
- 54:18Speaker 1: the same game, and uh uh you know, I think
- 54:21Speaker 1: that kind of gets some people, scares them out maybe
- 54:24Speaker 1: and gets him to understanding that that there really is
- 54:27Speaker 1: is not a whole lot of different whether you're the
- 54:28Speaker 1: head coach at or Sinus College. Uh. And then goes
- 54:31Speaker 1: to Florida. On the football side, the games still played
- 54:33Speaker 1: the same. There's a lot of other things that go
- 54:35Speaker 1: into the responsib villains of the coach, But the football
- 54:38Speaker 1: on the field that you're now, you're playing the same game,
- 54:40Speaker 1: same rules. You mentioned that you told Urban that you
- 54:43Speaker 1: were a quarterbacks guy, so you go and to coach
- 54:45Speaker 1: quarterbacks in Bowling Green. Some of the quarterbacks you coach,
- 54:47Speaker 1: I just want to roll through a few of them. Um,
- 54:50Speaker 1: I'll start with Alex Smith, because you coached Alex at Utah.
- 54:53Speaker 1: If my my dates and times are right, what could
- 54:55Speaker 1: you tell me about Alex as a college player? You
- 54:57Speaker 1: know what he he was? He he was so smart
- 55:01Speaker 1: and so detailed. You know, he would always he would
- 55:04Speaker 1: constantly be coming over into the office when we got hired,
- 55:07Speaker 1: wanting to know every single detail, uh that would go on.
- 55:11Speaker 1: And I mean with such a football game, we had
- 55:13Speaker 1: a bye weekend and we played, you know, then you'd
- 55:14Speaker 1: play some Thursday or Friday night games. You'd have the
- 55:16Speaker 1: day off and you're out in the Utah college game
- 55:19Speaker 1: day you know, comes on at eight am. And I
- 55:21Speaker 1: mean that I'd get a knock on the door at
- 55:23Speaker 1: eight a m. At my house and it's Alex like, hey,
- 55:26Speaker 1: I'm here for some football today, and he just sit
- 55:29Speaker 1: at my house and we'd watch football games until ten
- 55:31Speaker 1: o'clock at night, when you know, different guys would come
- 55:33Speaker 1: and go, and some of the guys would be there,
- 55:35Speaker 1: but like, hey, you know there's a party we really
- 55:37Speaker 1: should go to. I'm like, dude, it's ten o'clock and
- 55:39Speaker 1: now you can go to a party now. But uh,
- 55:41Speaker 1: you know, he was just so smart out there on
- 55:44Speaker 1: the field. We get out there in a game and
- 55:46Speaker 1: we'd be on the sidelines and I'd see him checking
- 55:48Speaker 1: a play, our protections that the line of scrimmage. You're
- 55:52Speaker 1: an urban be on the headset. He's like, what's he doing?
- 55:54Speaker 1: What's he doing out there? I said, I said, coach,
- 55:56Speaker 1: I'm I'm out sidelines, man, I don't he's on the field.
- 55:59Speaker 1: I don't know what he's one right now. It looks
- 56:00Speaker 1: like he's checking the plate on. It's not like what
- 56:02Speaker 1: we call um, you know. He but he'd come over
- 56:07Speaker 1: run over the sidelines, and I always asked why, like
- 56:09Speaker 1: why did you do that? I want to know what
- 56:11Speaker 1: did you do? Well? Hey, why did you do that?
- 56:12Speaker 1: He's like, hey, you know, any time I saw the
- 56:15Speaker 1: mic linebacker was six, was took a half step forward.
- 56:19Speaker 1: And every time he's done that, they've run this certain
- 56:21Speaker 1: blitz so I checked this blitz. I checked the protection
- 56:24Speaker 1: that way and through the route off the back side.
- 56:26Speaker 1: I said, that's fantastic. That's exactly what we want to do.
- 56:29Speaker 1: And you can see that, like I don't you know,
- 56:31Speaker 1: I mean we're I'm from my vantage point. I don't
- 56:33Speaker 1: see that all the time, but you're out there and
- 56:34Speaker 1: see it on the field, and uh, you know, he
- 56:37Speaker 1: was just that smart after his injury. I mean, were
- 56:40Speaker 1: you surprised how resilient he was? No, you know what
- 56:43Speaker 1: I mean, it was really really scary. Um, you know
- 56:46Speaker 1: for him and his whole family. Um, you know, I
- 56:49Speaker 1: remember we went out were in Hawaii and saw him
- 56:51Speaker 1: ount in Hawaii at their house out there, and I
- 56:54Speaker 1: mean this was nine months later and he still had
- 56:57Speaker 1: the halos around his leg, and I mean it was
- 56:59Speaker 1: it was so scary. But uh, he's a very driven person. Um,
- 57:05Speaker 1: extremely successful. He's gonna be successful now he's into TV,
- 57:09Speaker 1: which you know, but there's a lot of things. It
- 57:11Speaker 1: wouldn't be shocked. I wouldn't be shocked to see him
- 57:14Speaker 1: and in a lot of different things. As his life
- 57:16Speaker 1: goes on and whatever he picks up, he's probably gonna
- 57:18Speaker 1: be successful at uh because because of that drive once,
- 57:22Speaker 1: you know, once he was committed to get back. I
- 57:24Speaker 1: think going back playing helped him on that drive, you know.
- 57:29Speaker 1: I think that the the to get himself healthy enough
- 57:33Speaker 1: to where, you know, he could actually go on an
- 57:36Speaker 1: NFL field. He'd be healthy enough to go play with
- 57:39Speaker 1: his kids for the rest of his life and live
- 57:40Speaker 1: a normal life. And so I think that was such
- 57:42Speaker 1: a motivating fact. You coach Tim Tebow at Florida as
- 57:48Speaker 1: a ninety year old. What's Tim Tebow like to coach? Um?
- 57:52Speaker 1: You know? I mean he is, He's Tim you know.
- 57:57Speaker 1: I mean, if you note him, it's all real. Every
- 58:00Speaker 1: one comes up like one. He can't be that good
- 58:02Speaker 1: a human being, right, he is. It's all real. There's
- 58:06Speaker 1: nothing fake about it. Almost two a fault and you know,
- 58:09Speaker 1: I mean it is that way, like he's that good
- 58:13Speaker 1: a person. Um. What the fun thing I always had
- 58:16Speaker 1: is in like I could always push his buttons, you know.
- 58:20Speaker 1: And I mean if you see him out there, you know,
- 58:22Speaker 1: I'll be like, you know, you know, I mean we're
- 58:26Speaker 1: in the workout. You know you can't you can't do
- 58:28Speaker 1: fifty push ups, you know. I mean, it's just it's
- 58:34Speaker 1: so easy to put it like I could just push
- 58:35Speaker 1: his competitive buttons and especially a nineteen twenty years old uh,
- 58:40Speaker 1: you know, and he would be like, I'm like, oh,
- 58:42Speaker 1: I'll show you i can do it. Like I mean,
- 58:43Speaker 1: it's like that intense in what he does. But he
- 58:48Speaker 1: was I mean it was fun because he loved football. Uh.
- 58:51Speaker 1: He cared about a lot, you know when he was
- 58:53Speaker 1: a very different player like an Alex was a very
- 58:57Speaker 1: cerebral approach to the game. Uh. In everything that he did,
- 59:01Speaker 1: Tim was the effort, physical effort part of the player,
- 59:07Speaker 1: you know. I mean he'd come on and he'd be
- 59:09Speaker 1: like key moment of the game, be like, hey, coach,
- 59:12Speaker 1: give me the ball. I'm gonna run somebody over and
- 59:15Speaker 1: I'll make something happen and I will win the game
- 59:17Speaker 1: for us. You just give me the ball and I
- 59:19Speaker 1: will physically make sure we win the game. Um. And
- 59:23Speaker 1: it was I mean, he was one of the guys
- 59:24Speaker 1: that you saw. I mean to see the pressure that
- 59:27Speaker 1: comes on at nineteen, you know, nineteen twenty years old.
- 59:30Speaker 1: I mean he was getting thousands of requests to speak
- 59:33Speaker 1: at churches, I mean, calls all the time. I mean,
- 59:35Speaker 1: it was. He was not your regular college celebrity. He
- 59:41Speaker 1: was at a whole another level when he played in Florida.
- 59:44Speaker 1: And I want to wrap this part of it with
- 59:45Speaker 1: Dak Prescott in Mississippi State, who gave me fits for
- 59:49Speaker 1: he was He was awesome. It was so annoying talk
- 59:51Speaker 1: about Dak press second. You know, I mean he he's
- 59:54Speaker 1: the ultimate it guy. I think you know when people
- 59:57Speaker 1: talk about, uh, what it is, you know this quarterback
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: has it? That was it? You know that you could
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: give you a funny story. So he came up we
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: were recruiting him and came up to camp and everyone's like, well,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: I love everything about this getting like, all right, let's
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: see what you can do about six little over six
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: ft tall, hundred pounds, ran four nine five and didn't
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: throw the ball very well. And so he left. I'm like,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: what do you guys think? You know, the camp he
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: was expecting gett an offer, and I was kind of
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: like and they're I'm like, they're like, but he's he's
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: got the personality, he's got the it. I'm like, well,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: he said, but he can't throw the ball. Like he's
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: not very big, he's not very fast, and he doesn't
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: throw the ball very well. His personality is awesome. But
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: you know what, we gave him some things to work
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: on and he came back a couple of months later
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: to it. We had, you know, our specialty, like our
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: our big big dog camp, like our top players and
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: the strength coach. You do a part in the wait room.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: Strength coach came running out to me and he's like,
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: offer that kid immediately right now. I've never seen the
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: leadership that this kid has. And I'm like, I'm like,
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: I hope we can throw the ball better than the
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: last time. But we went on the field and everything
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: we'd ask him to do he improved on. And every
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: day from that for that point for he improved on.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: I mean that he's a guy that goes into the
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: weight room and he can jump up everybody's rear. Riend
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: he can yell and scream at you, would push you
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: to do your absolute best until you completely collapse and
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: you're exhausted. And as you're walking out of the weight
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: room with this guy in your face for two hours,
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: you're like, hey, dad, can we go hang out? What
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: are you doing tonight? Can I be around you? Can
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: I just hang with him? I mean, everybody's like the
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: pie piper. Everyone wants to be around him, and he
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: has that special factor where he makes everyone around him better,
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: can hold them accountable at a high level, and everyone
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: still loves him. When Dak was quarterback, and you guys
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: in Missippi State again, if memory serves you, guys were
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: you got the number one that season? Right, I'm right
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: there right for you, because I hear coaches say, yeah,
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: it's not about the ranking or really though, when you
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: hit number one, especially at US school like a Missippi
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: State that is not known for being the number one,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: not a you know, perennial football power. Privately, what does
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: it feel like to be number one? You know? That
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: was that was really special to me. You know, that
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: probably one of my most special moments in football in
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: my career because it was something that you're not expected
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: to do there, you know, and will always be a
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: great trivia question. And the first college football playoff poll ever, Um,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: Mississippi State was the number one team and um, you know,
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: I think it meant so much to the people at
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: the university, to the fan base, and really to the
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: people of Mississippi. You know, Old MS was great that
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: year too, and it really meant a lot to the
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: people in the state of Mississippi because they do have
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: so much pride in football, but you know, they're always
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: kind of maybe or take a back seat to a
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: lot of other schools. And it was so special to
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: do it because it's such a great community. It was
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: such a great team and you know the uh, I know,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: the season didn't end the way we wanted it to
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: end up. You know. I think one of the things
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: you get at those schools is we ended up with
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: a couple of injuries and you just don't have maybe
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: the depth that you can't plug in place to stay
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: at number one as this long season goes on? Is
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: it hard to shake a rivalry? Meaning you spent all
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: these years and you hated all Miss? Do you do
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: hate you know what? Um? You really don't, you know,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: I mean deep down inside they're still like a you know,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: the little like hey, you know hey, you know I
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: mean because you go back, you know, like bowling Green Toledo,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: you taught by you. I can cheer for b y
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: u a little bit now a little bit you said,
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: a little bit, coach, A little bit. I can cheer
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: for for all Miss a little bit. I mean I
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: even say, oh miss people. Uh, I think when you're there.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: You're so in the middle of the rivalry, right and
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: you just and so entrenched and and really one of
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: the things in the Mississippi State Old miss rivalry we did.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: I think we used it to springboard the program um
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: into an next and to get everybody excited about the program.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: And to do that, you've really got to kind of
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: stir everybody up, you know. And I think, um, uh,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: you know when I left and Hugh Freeze was there, um,
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: and I think both once we got really good, I
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: think what happened is we kind of used the rivalry
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: to springboard ourselves to success, and then we became relevant
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: both schools. But unfortunately, at that point, I think we
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: escalated the rivalry so much. It was even though I
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: think we were ready to kind of toned down the rhetoric,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: it had kind of taken a life of its own
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: because we didn't need that anymore to be relevant. We
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: we had created relevant and see by the performance of
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: the teams on the field. Um, so I think that
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: was was something that was uh, it was difficult and
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: we use this kind of you know, calling them the
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: school up north and not refer them by name and
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: all that. It kind of created this passion in this
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: this frenzy behind your program that did help us succeed.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: But you know, and and as time goes by, I mean,
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: it's easier to root for b y U now than
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: it is to root for old Miss, But I still like,
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: you know, I'll still reform. That's funny. What I like
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: about you on ESPN is I mean, I just like
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: that you're able to give opinions not protected by the
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: coach walls right and there. And you're talking about too
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: even you're on your socials. You know, I like when
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: you put up your bracket. I like when you list
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: where you think teams are gonna fall, because we never
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: got to see that from you as a head coach,
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: because that ain't your job and you don't want to
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: get caught, you know, uh, somebody being insulted by something
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: when you're ranking them. But as you look at the
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: SEC this year, and obviously Georgia and the East Alabama
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: in the West, is that a foregone conclusion? Um? Yeah?
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: Those I mean in theory, yes, Um, even after week
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: one they both looked dominant. You know, Georgia, I think
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: Alabama with the quarterback back and thinking they're better on defense,
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: and you know, I've consistently done it for so long
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: you just assume they're going to be a certain level.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: I thought a week one, Georgia looked better than everyone
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: thought they would. I thought they looked really explosive offensively.
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: And you know they have depth on defense, and they
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: had talent last year, you know, I mean Jalen Carter
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: was probably one of their best d lineman last year,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: and you know he wasn't a starter, so I guess
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: maybe he's not considered the returning starter. So they have
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: that depth. The question is is in any given year
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: something can happen, you know, and a lot depends on
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: one schedule. Now both of their schedules, why not to
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: be beneficial. You know, they don't play each other. If
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: they play each other, one of them has a loss. Uh,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: you know, a second loss kind of knocks them out
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: of it if they take one misstep at that point. Um,
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: So I think the schedules line up. Well, you have
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: to look at the East. You know, I thought Kentucky
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: because they played George at home late in November with
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: Chris Rodriguez back quarterback back. You know, a power running game.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: They played defense they could get into it where even
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: if they had a loss along the way, they could
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: get into a bad weather one game showdown with Georgia
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: in uh at home and find a way to edge
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: him to win the East in that game with with
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: one other conference loss, only they didn't look as sharp.
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: And Week one, Chris Rodrigez, we don't know his status,
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: so I don't know, um, Florida. I think Florida has
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: a lot of talent on the team, you know, and
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: having coached there last year, knowing those guys, knowing this
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: year could be a good year. But a lot is
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: gonna be on Anthony Richards. And you know, I mean
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: he he hit four different times last year, he had
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: injuries that kept him out forward seven different injuries that
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: kept him out of game. You know, I mean you'd
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: go and be like, Okay, we're making a movie. He's
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: gonna start, and he's injury and he's out for two weeks.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: So um, I think, as everybody saw in Week one,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: he is a special, special player. And if listen, if
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: he's healthy, he might he he he might be the
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: first pick in the draft nt yere he stays healthy
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: the holding year, he might. I had him in my
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: list as a dark horse Heisman, and because I know
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: what his talent level is if he if he stays healthy,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: I think Florida can can find a way to beat
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: anybody because you have that special player. You know. I
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: coach Cam Newton and he's probably reminds me a lot
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: of a Cam Newton where he can do things where
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: he just puts the entire team on his back. It
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: carries me. Uh, I love your team in the West.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: Um here it just feel free to talk away. I'll
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: just listen to this one. You know what. I they
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: play a pretty they played the style of football that
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: their physical. Uh. They have a quarterback that is now
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: becoming a fishing pastor. You know, he's that uh, you know,
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: a tough runner that's become an efficient pastor. And they
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: went out and got a couple of weapons, and they
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: have a really good old line back. So you know,
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: if if you can control the line of scrimmage, you know,
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: to to beat Alabama and uh and on that side
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: of the league, you have got to be able to
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: create some big plays in the air thrown ball. You're
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: not just gonna sit there and say, hey, we're gonna
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: go on a fifteen play eight five yard drive, pounding
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: away at them down the field, and in the end
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: that's you're not gonna do that. You've gotta hit some
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: big place and kJ Jefferson's development makes them a threat.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: Um Texas A and m um boy. They have some
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: skilled athletes though they can score, so that makes them
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: really dangerous. They have they had a great recruiting class.
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: They have a younger defense. Um are they there right now?
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: I don't know if all the pieces are in place
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: for them to get the here, but they have some
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: explosive guys that can score points, so they'll be interesting too.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: On that side of looking over. The Big twelve accurates
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: about a couple of teams, one Oklahoma with Venables being
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: I mean, one of the best assistant coaches of all
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: time and wanting to be an assistant coach and staying
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: at Clemson and he obviously at Oklahoma before that. But
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: now he's a head coach, and I assume his learning
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: curve would be different because where he's been and what
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: he's done as an assistant. But he's his first time
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: head coach. What do you think about that? Well? I
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: think this. I think you know what, the first day
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: you sit in that chair, and you know what, no
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: matter what you've done, how much you prepare, how ready
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: you are, it's uh. I mean I still good. I
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: remember my first day in Mississippi State. You know, you
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: you have the fan fair. You know, they bring in
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: all the all the crowds cheering for you, They introduce
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: you at the game, you're talking all the alumni. You're
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: up until whatever, four o'clock in the morning. You get
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: up a seven, you go with the officers standing in
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: chair like, okay, this is my show. I'm everybody's coming
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: and looking to me to do everything now. Um, So
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: there is a learned and curve. I think the biggest
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: benefit he has obviously he's a you know, an excellent
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: football coach, and he's going to a school that he's
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: very familiar. I know he's been away from Oklahoma for
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: a long time. But you still understand kind of the
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: inner workings in the backbone of the structure of the
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: the university, if you will, you know, maybe not where
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: the team is at this exact moment, but how the
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: university works as a whole. And so I think when
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: you understand that, that takes a little bit of pressure
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: off you, or not really, I shouldn't say pressure. The
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: pressure is not gonna change. It stems the learning curve
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: because you understand what is going to be expected and
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: how different things outside of football are going to work
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: at the university and moving over to Texas with Sark,
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: there is second year with the long Horns. Do you
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: think they can push Oklahoma? I mean obviously they Oklahoma State.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: I want to not forget about them, but especially that
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: story to me and Texas interesting with Sark with all
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: the stories of how difficult the Boosters are. And I
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: lived in Austar for twelve years and I know to
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: the Boosters and that's a difficult place just from what
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: I've heard. Do you feel like what I've heard it?
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: Um the I think listen. I think Starts a really
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: good football coach. UH known him for a long time.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: Thinks he does a great job. I think one of
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: the bigger, biggest pressures that Texas has is and it's interesting.
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: I think a lot of kids and maybe I'm wrong
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: on this, you were there, uh and living there, but
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: a lot of kids in Texas want to go to
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: Texas and you can't take everyone, and so you know,
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: you're always kind of upsetting people at all times by
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: who you not who you take, but who you don't
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: take in recruiting, And so I think there's that fine
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: balance of what you need in the state and then
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: you know, should you go out of state. I mean,
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: recruiting has become a national business now then kids, kids
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: leave and go all over the place. And so what's
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: that fine balance to keep the alumni base happy? Uh,
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: and to get the right kids in the program that
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: fit you, fit the university, and you are trying to
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: make everybody in the state happy, and they love their
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: football in Texas. Can they can they push Oklahoma? Can
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: they win the conference? You know what? I I think
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: it's pretty wide open, you know. I think Dylan Gabriel,
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: you know, Quinn yours coming in. I know he's highly recruited. Uh.
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: You know, he's got to always gotta get a parking
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: you know, I got to. I mean, I get they
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: gave him all these fancy cars or something maybe and
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: as an an idea deals, right, but now he's gotta
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: go get parking for him. Uh. The no, I think
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: being a younger guy, Dylan Gabriel's a veteran guy is
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: gonna understand the system, uh and make plays the team
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: to me that's gonna be, you know, hard to beat.
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: I think in the league's gonna be Oklahoma State with
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: their quarterback back and and the talent they have back.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: I think they're gonna be tough to beat. I don't
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: wanna I just wanna say I don't want to get
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: Baylor because man, Waco is gonna be messaging me, going,
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: you suck. You didn't bring up Baylor like me, Now
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: you coach me. They love to find reasons I suck,
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: and they love to tell me. So I just want
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: to say out loud, Baylor is also good. It's betting
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: interesting that I think they're playing b YU this weekend.
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: That would be a well, you know what, that's an
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: interesting deal because b y U as a team that
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: I think has an unbelievable path through the season. If
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: b YU runs the table this year, you're gonna have
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: a hard time keeping them out of the playoffs. Uh
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: they get an oder Dame Baylor Oregon. You know, I
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: mean that week as I go there, Arkansas is going
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: to provo to play by U this year. Arkansas. So
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: I mean, if you think they have a team that
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: a lot of people are favored with Baylor to win
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: in to get a big twelve win. Possibly a lot
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: of people like Oregon to win the Pack twelve as
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: as a contender, they'd have that win, not order Dames
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: and national power. Arkansas is a team that a lot
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: of people are top team. I mean, so it's this
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: interesting run. Uh you know that that that's such a
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: big game and it could really launch b YU into
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: a special season. Um again, I mean, we're gonna get
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: more Baylor people hating on us right now. We brought
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: up we were right to b y U. But um,
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: you know, I I don't know, but I I don't.
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: I think Baylor, when you look at them last year,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: did everything all the little things, huge turnover ratio, you know,
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: in their fair they did a lot of things that
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: you need to do to win at football. Uh not
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: that Dave Ranna is not coaching, They're not. You don't
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: expect them to be well coached through the same thing.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: But if all those little things don't work out today
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: have the talent to go compete with Texas, Oklahoma State
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: and Oklahoma, I'm not sure if they do don't play
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: perfect for I hope everybody listening goes and follows coaches
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: at coach Dan Mullen on Instagram A great follow just
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: becauseially the Baylor fans right now right we had, they're
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: all on following you or they're now harassing you online.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: But coach, I'm a'm massive fan myself, and thank you
