- 0:00Chapter 23 from the book of Isaiah.
- 0:03Dear God, please help us with this chapter.
- 0:07Give us insight and wisdom from the words that were spoken here.
- 0:14We ask for this in Jesus name, Amen.
- 0:17So about this prophecy against. Tyre I really.
- 0:21Don't have any input. I have probably more questions
- 0:24than anything so. I will just.
- 0:26Read scripture and then I will. Go through the.
- 0:29Questions and answers from the study guide but first of all I
- 0:35want to address something that I missed for chapter 22 and this
- 0:40is a question and answer for that So in regarding chapter 22,
- 0:45the question was how could. God be so.
- 0:48Unforgiving because the nation Nation of.
- 0:51Judah was so. Unrepentant because.
- 0:55God is. Holy, he cannot ignore sin.
- 0:58As it was. God had shown incredible
- 1:01patience towards them even when they had.
- 1:05Repeatedly. Broken their covenant with him.
- 1:08Through the prophets God. Had repeatedly invited people
- 1:12to. Restore their relationship.
- 1:14With him but. People had rejected his.
- 1:17Prophets and his message, even the annihilation of the northern
- 1:21Kingdom of Israel in 722 BC, had failed to convince the people of
- 1:27Judah to repent, though God may. Appear to have.
- 1:33Been unforgiving. In reality, Isaiah was only
- 1:36declaring what the people. Had already decided.
- 1:39They would not repent, they would not change their sinful
- 1:44way of. Life.
- 1:45They would not seek. God, the result?
- 1:49They would not be forgiven, but would.
- 1:53Pay the price for their. Sinful ways.
- 1:56So that's something we can all learn from.
- 1:58If we choose to keep on sinning, we're just going to have to pay
- 2:01the. Price for it?
- 2:03Because there's no forgiveness there.
- 2:05Repentance brings about that. So anyway, let's go into chapter
- 2:1223. A prophecy against Tyre.
- 2:14Whale you. Ships of Tarshish for Tyre is
- 2:18destroyed. Now we'll see from the study.
- 2:21Bible that Tyre was destroyed. And again, this coal chapter
- 2:27makes me wonder, is this something that was?
- 2:29Already fulfilled or does this? Have an end time implication and
- 2:34especially at the very end of this chapter makes me question.
- 2:37So it says whale use ships. Of tar ships for tyre is.
- 2:43Destroyed and left. Without house.
- 2:46Or harbor. We know a harbor and houses
- 2:49exist today from the land. Of Cyprus, the.
- 2:53Island Word has come to them. Be silent, you.
- 2:57People of the. Island and you merchants of
- 2:59Saidon. Saidon is near Tyre in Lebanon,
- 3:04whom the seafarers have enriched on the.
- 3:07Great waters. Came the grain of Shihor.
- 3:12The harvest of the Nile was the revenue.
- 3:14Of Tyre. And she became the marketplace
- 3:18of the nations. Well, I was.
- 3:19Curious about that so I just looked up to.
- 3:23See. You know who does Lebanon trade
- 3:25with and what? Trade products do they have?
- 3:27When it talks about the Nile, you know, is there any
- 3:29connection between Lebanon and the Nile?
- 3:32And there's not really, I mean Lebanon and.
- 3:35Egypt do trade. But if?
- 3:38It talks. About like came or on the great
- 3:41waters came the grain of the Shihor in 2025.
- 3:49The grain. That they.
- 3:50Currently import is mainly from Russia and Ukraine so it doesn't
- 3:55connect. With Egypt so.
- 3:58Again, I don't. I don't really know.
- 3:59This could have been from the past.
- 4:01I'm not really. Sure, I just.
- 4:02Have more questions? So the prophecy continues.
- 4:06Be ashamed, Saidon. And you.
- 4:08Fortress of the Sea for the. Sea has spoken.
- 4:12I have neither been in labor nor given birth.
- 4:16I have neither reared sons nor. Brought up daughters.
- 4:20When word comes to Egypt, they will be in anguish.
- 4:25At the report. From Tyre This completely
- 4:28confuses me also, so I'll. Read what the Study Bible says
- 4:31about this. Why would the sea speak?
- 4:34This is symbolic language the Mediterranean was speaking to.
- 4:38Tyre the fortress. Of the sea and Sidon.
- 4:42Tyre's sister. Phoenician city, 25 miles to the
- 4:45north, The sea, appropriately personified as the mother of the
- 4:51Phoenicians had become. Bereft of her.
- 4:55Children and left as if she never had them because God's
- 5:00judgment. Because of God's.
- 5:03Judgment these great. Coastal.
- 5:06Cities would become. Like a childless.
- 5:08Woman a terrible stigma in Isaiah's.
- 5:11Day. So again, that doesn't.
- 5:16Really help clarify. That to me.
- 5:19It I just. Don't quite understand because I
- 5:22don't know really what happened or if this is something that is
- 5:25about to happen. When it talks about I've neither
- 5:29been in labor nor given birth. I always think about the the
- 5:33labor pains related to the end of the end of times in the
- 5:39Bible. That's what it.
- 5:40Often refers to. So I again, I just don't
- 5:46understand this. I don't have insight.
- 5:48Crossover to Tarshish will you people?
- 5:51Of the island. Is this your city of revelry?
- 5:55The old, old city whose feet? Have taken her to settle in far
- 6:00off lands. Who planned this against Tyre?
- 6:04The bestower of. Crowns whose merchants are
- 6:07Princess, whose traitors are renowned of the earth the Lord
- 6:11Almighty planned it to bring down.
- 6:14Her pride. In all her splendor and to
- 6:17humble all those who are renowned on earth.
- 6:22So there's other prophecies about Tyre where it really does
- 6:28tie. To Satan and and I, I didn't
- 6:33look up. Where those were but.
- 6:36It's it's another prophecy. So I don't know if this.
- 6:39Is like a. Spiritual thing rather than the
- 6:42actual. People.
- 6:43That are there but again we know that Satan was prideful and he
- 6:48was you know. This is.
- 6:50The Lord Almighty planned it to bring down her pride in all her
- 6:54splendor and to humble all who are renowned on the earth.
- 6:58So it's not only. The ruler of Tyre, but.
- 7:02All the renowned people on the on the earth so and it's due to.
- 7:07Pride. This is what is is.
- 7:09Prophesied against Tyre till your land, till your land, as
- 7:14they do along the Nile. Daughter Tarshish.
- 7:17For you no longer. Have a harbor, so the.
- 7:19Harbour's gone. But obviously there is a harbor
- 7:23today, so. Was it gone and then restored
- 7:26again? But then we'll see something at
- 7:28the end of the. Chapter that also.
- 7:30Doesn't make sense. About a restoration.
- 7:33The Lord. Has stretched.
- 7:34Out his hand. Over the sea.
- 7:36And made its Kingdom tremble. He has given an order concerning
- 7:41Phoenicia. That her fortresses be
- 7:43destroyed. He said no more of your
- 7:47revelling virgin daughter Sidon, now crushed up.
- 7:52Crossover to Cyprus. Even there you will find no
- 7:55rest. Look at the land of the
- 7:57Babylonians, the people that is now of no account.
- 8:01The Assyrians have made it a place.
- 8:03For desert creatures, they raised up their siege towers.
- 8:06They stripped its fortress bare. And turned it into a ruin.
- 8:10Whale, you ships of Tarsus, your fortress is destroyed.
- 8:14At that time. Tyre will be.
- 8:17Forgotten for 70 years, the span of a King's life.
- 8:21But at the end of these 70 years, it will happen.
- 8:25To Tyre. As in the song of.
- 8:27The prostitute. So that 70 years kind of stood
- 8:31out to me, The study Bible. Says.
- 8:33What does it mean that tyre will be forgotten for 70 years after
- 8:38seeing a? Cherub Severe.
- 8:39Harassment of Phoenicia in 701 tires trading was.
- 8:43Very largely disrupted. For almost exactly 70 years,
- 8:49when the decline of the Assyrian Empire Empire permitted its
- 8:53commercial recovery, so that you know.
- 8:59That could be. I don't know.
- 9:04Again, that's it says for almost, so it doesn't seem like.
- 9:07Exact, I just looked up also. You know what is significant
- 9:11about 70 years in Lebanon and I found out that.
- 9:14There was a civil war. That went from 1975 to 2005, and
- 9:21it lasted for 70 years. And there were Christians,
- 9:25Druze, and. I guess Israel.
- 9:28Was involved. As well.
- 9:30In the in this civil war that that occurred and eventually
- 9:36what happened with Syria left Lebanon at that point, but
- 9:41Israel and Lebanon are not at peace.
- 9:44So again, I'm just confused. By all of.
- 9:47This, so Isaiah continues, take up a.
- 9:51Harp Walk Walk through the. City you've forgotten prostitute
- 9:55play the. Harp well.
- 9:57Sing many a song so that. You will be.
- 10:00Remembered at the end of 70 years.
- 10:05The Lord will deal with Tyre. He will return her.
- 10:09To her lucrative. Prostitution and will.
- 10:12Ply her trade. With all the kingdoms on the
- 10:16face of the earth. OK, so that would make sense
- 10:19that, you know, if that happened in ancient times with the
- 10:23Assyrians and they didn't have trade going on, they were kind
- 10:27of forgotten. But then it stirred back up
- 10:29again. That would all make sense.
- 10:31But here's the question that I'm like, I don't get this part.
- 10:36So it says that you know, at the end of her 70.
- 10:40Years or at. The end of 70 years.
- 10:42The Lord will deal with Tyre. She will.
- 10:44Return to her. Lucrative.
- 10:46Prostitution and will ply her trade.
- 10:49With all the. Kingdoms on the face of the
- 10:51earth, this is the one that's questioned.
- 10:54Yet her profit. And her earnings?
- 10:57Will be set apart. For the Lord they will not be.
- 11:01Stored up or. Hoarded her prophets.
- 11:04Will go to those who live before.
- 11:06The Lord for abundant food and fine clothes.
- 11:11OK, has that. Ever happened?
- 11:14I don't recall that. Like Lebanon, you know,
- 11:18providing for food and fine, fine clothes.
- 11:23For the people of the Lord. Everything's going to be set
- 11:27apart. Is this something that willingly
- 11:29will happen or is I I don't know.
- 11:32I mean, this is just a big question.
- 11:34So that last statement, that last verse 18 seems like that
- 11:40hasn't ever happened. That has to be.
- 11:42Future. So does that mean that all of
- 11:45this prophecy is one of those again, double fulfilled?
- 11:48Prophecies where it had. A partial fulfillment back in
- 11:53the ancient days, but. It also has a.
- 11:56Future fulfillment. I just don't really know so and
- 12:02the study Bible doesn't help me much with it anyway.
- 12:05So there is a question like. How was Tyre destroyed?
- 12:09From the study Bible Tyres Island.
- 12:11Fortress about. Half Mile Offshore made it
- 12:14appear unconquerable if the mainland portion of the city
- 12:18fell, as it did to Babylon in five, 72 BC.
- 12:23The people. Retreated to the.
- 12:24Island until the invaders left 15 years later, in this case of
- 12:30the babylonian attack, but centuries later Alexander the
- 12:34Great defeated mainland tire then using timber and stones
- 12:39from its ruins, he. Built a Causeway across the
- 12:43water. To the island city, the fortress
- 12:46finally fell in three. 32 BC. Afterward, Alexander crucified.
- 12:522000 people and sold 30,000 more into slavery and it says.
- 13:01How was Tyre a bestower of? Crowns Tyre, a predominant city
- 13:06of Phoenicia, was an island city of world commerce and great
- 13:10maritime power. Its wealth gave it.
- 13:13Gave it power to bestow. Crowns, that is.
- 13:16Tyre gave. Political and economic power to
- 13:20kings in its colonies. Though the location of Tarshish
- 13:26is uncertain, it certainly was one of Tyres colonies, and Tyres
- 13:31merchants had become so wealthy that they were no longer
- 13:34considered businessmen, but Princess.
- 13:37A part. Of the nobility.
- 13:40Why call Saidon a virgin daughter?
- 13:43Simply to show the contrast between what Saidon was and what
- 13:47she would become. Saidon, along with all of
- 13:50Phoenicia, would no longer be like a young girl enjoying the
- 13:53pampered life she would be. Captured.
- 13:55Beaten and raped, Saidon was. Captured by the.
- 13:58Assyrians and later by the Babylonians.
- 14:06Why would Saidon Cross? Over to Cyprus to escape.
- 14:10Seen a cherub and the Assyrians by finding safety among allies
- 14:15on the island, but any such rest?
- 14:18Would be short lived. Sidon's defeat by the Assyrians
- 14:21was an inevitable was as inevitable as the defeats handed
- 14:26to the not yet powerful Babylon which submitted to domination by
- 14:31Sargon the Second in 710 BC and to sing a cherub in 689 BC.
- 14:38So what does it mean that Tyre will be forgotten for 70?
- 14:41Years after seeing a cherub. Severe harassment of Phoenicia
- 14:45in seven O 1 tyres trading was very.
- 14:47Largely disrupted. For almost exactly 70 years,
- 14:50when the decline of the Assyrian Empire permitted its commercial.
- 14:54Recovery How was Tyre like a prostitute a prostitute?
- 14:57Nation compromised ethical standards.
- 15:01For the sake. Of making a profit and building
- 15:04a thriving business with merchants from many countries.
- 15:08We see that in Revelation chapter 14 verse. 8.
- 15:13Chapter 17, verses one through 5 and verse 18 with a marked
- 15:18change of tone reveals that ultimately it was.
- 15:21God's purpose that the richest. Pagan city symbolized.
- 15:25Here by Tyre. Would be Pagan no longer.
- 15:28But would dedicate all its resources to the worship.
- 15:32Of God. So that was that sentence that
- 15:36kind of stood out to me like these earnings will be set.
- 15:39Apart for the. Lord, they will not be stored up
- 15:41or hoarded. Her prophets will.
- 15:44Go to those who live before the. Lord for abundant food and fine
- 15:47clothes. So that I don't know, that just
- 15:51has to be. Maybe during the Millennium, I'm
- 15:55not sure, but it certainly isn't now.
- 15:57And this chapter only leaves me with more questions, not really
- 16:02answers, so I will wrap this one up.
- 16:05We have a short one and next time we're going to talk about
- 16:08the Lords devastation of the. Earth.
- 16:11So this involves everybody that hasn't been specifically singled
- 16:16out and it has a lot of information.
- 16:19This is certainly end times because he hasn't devastated the
- 16:23entire Earth yet. And you know, this was written
- 16:28after the flood and he promised he wouldn't flood the earth any
- 16:32more, like in total. So that's not going to happen.
- 16:35The next time will be. Basically by fire.
- 16:38And so this will be an interesting 1 S.
- 16:41Hope you come back and join this podcast.
- 16:44We try to. Do a chapter a day.
- 16:46To stay in the Word of God.
