  We're going to do a little review of a Star Wars fan film.

  That came out a couple of years ago.

  It's called Kenobi and it's it was a fan film made by Jamie

  Kosta and yeah it's pretty good. It's like well it's pretty good.

  I have absolutely, I liked it. But I have problems with

  I'm being extra scrutiny this. But which may be unfair, because

  it's a fan film and based on that alone, it is mind-boggling.

  I think is a little Cameo near the end and It's just like, no,

  it's great. I was like, oh, there he is.

  And he plays a bad guy for the first time ever.

  Maybe unconvincing. No he didn't.

  Yeah, he's too nice to be mean. Truly is a little cheeky, you

  Okay, so this film is called Kenobi.

  It's a Star Wars fan film. It was produced by Jim Acosta,

  who is an actor, I think he was like a cosplayer as well, and he

  just kind of started producing his own short features and this
• 2:14
  movie, The Kenobi movie, clearly had a budget, it will for sure
• 2:21
  really one of the better quality like whether or not you like the
• 2:26
  story or the acting or whatever. Budget was there way more so
• 2:32
  than on other fan films I've ever watched this.

  This is one of the better ones that I've watched
• 2:37
  production-wise and the sound I thought was really good.

  They obviously dump some stuff over to make sure you could hear
• 2:45
  and it was it was well that was well done.

  I mean the costumes and they had a Droid where they get the Droid
• 2:53
  made a couple of them. Actually, I don't like the main
• 2:56
  Astromech. I was like, Pardon me.

  Cerio's pretty good? I don't know how I'll so I don't

  know how they aren't getting in trouble with Disney and

  film, but I do want to talk about About just the film in

  general. Because to me, it's gonna like

  getting in the mood for the Obi-Wan series, that's coming

  out to lie. So, this is like, it takes place
• 4:06
  on Tatooine after I mean, Lucas, I don't know how looks gotta be
• 4:11
  about six or eight, or something in this and in this.

  So, like, obviously Obi-Wan has been there for several years.
• 4:17
  At this point he's probably about five or six.

  Yeah, I would say. That's right.

  He's pretty small like Uncle Owens in it.

  There's a brew and then it Basically, just we want to, Luke
• 4:30
  doesn't really speak. He's too little to speak but
• 4:33
  unlikely was cute. It was super cute.

  Jesus. He was very adorable.

  Little Sandy haired boy but Jamie Casa produced it.

  But he also plays Obi-Wan and he's one of those people who
• 4:45
  can, like, mimic a lot of people like I've seen him cosplay,
• 4:49
  like, Marty McFly and just a bunch of fandom characters and
• 4:55
  he's pretty good at sounding and look, Looking like the
• 4:58
  characters, he's kind of blown my mind a few times.

  So I thought he did a great job as Obi-Wan, he was pretty
• 5:05
  believable, like yeah, for the most part, obviously it's hard
• 5:09
  to like he's not Ewan McGregor. Well, I mean, that's why I was
• 5:15
  like, he's pretty good for a stand-in like yeah, yeah, I
• 5:19
  stayed up hitch. He's a good Kenobi.
• 5:21
  But like, yeah, but he owned he understood.
• 5:24
  I would say like the struggle that Obi-Wan's Got to have a
• 5:30
  several years into Luke's early life.
• 5:33
  Mmm, and his struggle with, you know, knowing his father and
• 5:38
  having lost his father and having his father's lightsaber.
• 5:41
  Yeah, waiting for him, which is the whole point of this short
• 5:45
  story which I actually liked. Yeah, I like that.
• 5:50
  And I also liked the like a large part of the story centers
• 5:55
  around, Anakin's lightsaber. And that it's kind of like this
• 6:00
  reminder, you know, of this shit that went down on Mustafar and
• 6:05
  it kind of haunts ob1 and there's that scene where he goes
• 6:08
  out in the middle of the night and actually throws it like he
• 6:11
  doesn't ever want to see it again, right?
• 6:14
  And then immediately is, so I call it back because he's a
• 6:17
  check by sand people. He calls it right back.
• 6:21
  Yes, I okay. so, Fuck. I lost what I was going to say
• 6:30
  because I'm tired. Go ahead, keep talking.

  You said, you said he threw it away.

  Yeah, it was I thinking I don't remember what it's going to say

  that I liked that at the end when he's fighting all the
• 6:48
  Stormtroopers and everything that he's forced to use Anakin's
• 6:54
  lightsaber and it's like he can't escape it, you know, it's
• 6:57
  like no matter what he does, it keeps showing up.

  And so finally, he uses it to protect Luke and it's like,
• 7:02
  coming full circle. It's like the thing that heals
• 7:06
  him, I guess, or like he comes to terms with, Happen with it.
• 7:10
  And doesn't see it as this like cursed item.

  It's like, he it finally, it's like used for good.
• 7:18
  The lightsaber is used for good and brings them full circle on
• 7:22
  it, so I like that element of it.

  Do you use something bad for good for his new purpose?

  He was looking too far back in the past, which weighed him down
• 7:33
  and then when he looked to his purpose now, which is Anakin son
• 7:38
  and protecting him. He was able All to like shed
• 7:40
  that weight in order to protect Luke and like remind himself of
• 7:44
  why he's here. Not to look back when to look
• 7:46
  forward, which I think we all need reminded of right.

  Yeah. Definitely.

  It's a very simple story but like, overall, it's basically,

  oh, when telling Obi-Wan to get out of here.

  Yeah. Basically, as usual, which I

  don't want I die. Okay, let's talk.

  Let's, let's back up and talk about that.

  I don't want. II really don't want to see like

  oh and be this jackass towards Obi-Wan.

  I think there's like some tension there, but I don't, I
• 8:17
  think they're going to work together to make this happen
• 8:21
  because like everybody's putting position that no one really
• 8:24
  anticipated, nobody wanted and yet they're going to try and
• 8:28
  have to they're going to have to make this work.

  You mean like protecting Luke? Yes yes.

  And so they're going to have to learn to live with each other
• 8:37
  which I did not think. And, you know, because there's
• 8:40
  this whole thing where there's this idea that like, oh, and
• 8:44
  fucking hate it, Obi-Wan or something.
• 8:46
  And I don't subscribe to that theory, but think there was
• 8:49
  tension. I don't think there was hate.

  I just think there's like, we gotta we gotta Focus.

  Now, there is a comic book where he is pretty hateful to
• 8:58
  everyone. I know, but I'm choosing to
• 8:59
  ignore that. That's exactly what I was

  thinking of and I'm not, I'm not, I just don't see it, you
• 9:08
  know? Like, yeah.

  Your own head, Canon. Basically, it doesn't like sit

  right with you. Yeah, I just you know, I think

  there's tension just not screaming burning hatred, you

  Yeah. So Owen tells him.

  He's got to leave. Obi-Wan throws the light saver.

  We assume that he's going to leave, correct?

  I don't know. I wasn't sure.

  I guess maybe he was thinking about it because Owen tells him

  that the Empire has now been spotted in the outer room.

  So you can see he has like a moment of conflict where it's
• 9:44
  like, well, am I more of a risk staying or going?

  So it's like, I wasn't really sure if he was actually
• 9:52
  intending to leave or if he just felt like so haunted by Anakin
• 9:56
  His presence that he had to get rid of the lightsaber.

  I'm not sure what he, what his goal was by throwing it.

  But either way, I think he was haunted and he needed to get rid
• 10:06
  of it. Yeah, you know, just too much
• 10:09
  going on in Obi-Wan's mind at this point, he just needs to

  focus on Luke and I think that physical get rid of it was one
• 10:16
  way of like relieving himself of some of that and then they end
• 10:19
  up over at what they were out at a moisture.

  Farm one of those moms before that like after he throws, that
• 10:27
  he gets attacked by sand people and Obi-Wan's knocked
• 10:29
  unconscious. So maybe that's right.

  Maybe he was intending to leave Tatooine and he missed the
• 10:34
  transport because he was unconscious on the ground all
• 10:37
  night long. The man never gets a nap only
• 10:40
  when he's knocked unconscious by sand people.

  It's true. But yeah, you're right.

  Then, like, the next morning they cut to Owen and beru and
• 10:50
  Luke and they're like dealing with a moisture evaporator or
• 10:54
  something like that. Yeah, of the deserts, like, in
• 10:56
  the little landspeeder playing and it's cute and they try to

  hide them and its, really cute. Now, this is where I have
• 11:04
  problems. Beru had too much makeup on for
• 11:07
  a moisture. Farming wife in the middle of
• 11:09
  tattoo? Wait, I had problems with.
• 11:10
  She's beautiful actress. Yes, it was gorgeous.

  Way too much makeup for tattooing sister.
• 11:17
  That's my only. That's like look Lane.

  She didn't look rough enough. That's for sure.

  I'm just saying like you always see those memes of people like

  this is what happens that when you interact with the Skywalker

  or remain on Tatooine. This is how bad you age like 20

  years between this picture and this picture, because you're on

  Tatooine, right? Not happen with Peru, like Peru

  looks great. She had the whole Contour going,
• 11:41
  she had the whole everything going looks fabulous.

  That That really ruined it. For me, not her didn't ruin her

  ruined the scene for me. I couldn't not.

  Look at the makeup, and think, what the fuck is going on here?

  So, just a small critique. Yeah.

  Lovely. So here they come to Empires

  walking down this and they're doing a census, which I thought

  was a good excuse. Yeah.

  That was clever. Kind of excuse of, they're going

  to have to come out here in the middle of nowhere.

  Looking for people but a sense. This was a good idea.

  So like you said, Empire shows up they come and they take a

  Arnold Taylor front and center is the Empire bad guy.

  I just love seeing him in a totally weird unexpected role.

  Like you never, I would never think of him as a bad.

  Nobody did. He was so like skeezy maybe skis

  is the wrong word, but like definitely a scumbag.

  Yeah, it was a typical Imperial scumbag.

  Yeah. And yet, it put a smile on my

  face because it's James Arnold Taylor, and it's just like, ah,

  Well, the moment where, I'll be one shows up to like rescue and

  I wonder if it was weirdly surreal to see someone coming

  towards him as the character that he played for so long.

  I think James would with Taylor's Play-Doh be one longer

  Well in that respect, Matt lanters played Anakin a lot

  longer than Hayden. It's crazy.

  That's probably true. Actually that's wild.

  Yeah, it's pretty crazy well. So what did you think of the

  lightsaber sequence? Well, first of all, I thought he
• 14:09
  did a phenomenal job handling that lightsaber.

  So kudos to him. Yeah.

  Yeah. Jim Acosta did a good job.

  Yeah no yeah. Jamie Round of Applause to our

  good sir, producer and director. I did not like the sand in the

  eyes. This say I understand why they

  did it but I'm like, really Obi-Wan has literally been
• 14:35
  thrown punched kicked dragged tossed.

  I guess it was just a blind him, right?

  So that he had to use Force. Yeah.

  Which I thought that was wonderful to see.

  It's a Kanan jarrus moment. Yeah, you can't see.

  So you have to feel and move one with the force and I thought the

  editing was fantastic. Yeah.

  I was impressed with the Blaster bolts.

  They looked real. Like they did a really good job

  with that. They did a fantastic job with

  that. And so while I didn't like this,

  I did like that. And so like it was kind of a

  balance of like, okay, I get it. They need an excuse to get to

  this, which is fantastic. Mmm, you know, I didn't like how

  the family was just sitting there watching it.

  I understand that they were like mesmerized by it.

  And it was like a turning point where, you know, Uncle Owen

  trusted Obi-Wan again to be the protector.

  That he said he would be. And yeah, yeah.

  It's like they suddenly saw what he Is capable of?

  Yeah, because he's been keeping it like secret hidden and no one

  really knows up close. Well, I guess the whole galaxy

  do it one point but now maybe yeah, Peru weren't quite sure.

  But well, the one Trooper was it or was it James Arnold Taylor

  who was like, don't I know you from somewhere?

  but also like he's literally changed his name from Obi-Wan

  Kenobi to Ben Kenobi. He's wearing.

  Jedi robes in the desert. Like he's not that undercover

  plus Obi-Wan. Kenobi was famous.

  Yeah, totally him as Skywalker were on the hollow net.

  Like, all right, I'm weren't exactly.

  Yes, as like the duo that you didn't want to fuck with but

  that was also another thing. I didn't like that, he Just

  dressed in Jedi robes and he just like walked out in front of

  the Empire and Jedi robes. And I'm like, no Obi-Wan smarter

  than this like like he looked quite the costume.

  It looked really good and it was definitely like a costume a

  call-out to. It was like between Revenge of
• 16:54
  the Sith and A New Hope but like he's not that.

  That's what I've said all along. If you're gonna go undercover

  like, change how you dress and changed your name a little bit

  more. Than what you did.

  Yeah, yeah. It's kind of just, like a

  running joke. Now, at this point, take the

  belt off, maybe, you know, strip some of the layers off.

  So you look like you're just wearing a potato sack, like,

  grow go, you know what I mean? That, that would make sense in

  Tatooine. Yeah.

  For the San people, they all wear this, the potato sacks and

  like, you know, it's like a thing, the Poncho.

  The Tatooine Poncho. Yeah, he could have gotten away

  with out with that. And not with all the layers of a
• 17:39
  Jedi like, right? But again small knit picks for a
• 17:45
  very well done fan film. I really loved the
• 17:49
  cinematography. I it was very obvious to me that
• 17:52
  they had a real cinematographer working with them on set and the
• 17:56
  lighting was like a cinematographers are, they're
• 17:59
  responsible for basically anything you see in the frame
• 18:02
  but also the way the light works.
• 18:04
  And so They kept any time Obi-Wan was like holding
• 18:08
  Anakin's lightsaber in the cave, the light would reflect off of
• 18:12
  it across his eyes and I always liked that detail and they
• 18:16
  backlit everything very well. And like, those shots of the
• 18:21
  desert, the like, I'm sure they used a drone or something.
• 18:24
  Those shots were awesome. Yes, and I really loved the
• 18:29
  first. I think it was like the first
• 18:30
  couple of scenes where it's like, kind of bluish and it's
• 18:33
  like the whipping Sands. Yeah.
• 18:36
  And he's like struggle walking through it.
• 18:38
  Yeah, and there was actually a you could see a star Cruiser
• 18:41
  like a, yes, higher Cruiser, like up in the sky above him.

  It was really, it was great. It was good detail that made it
• 18:49
  very believable. Yeah.

  And honestly it was I would say on par with like some of the
• 18:55
  stuff they did in book a Boba Fett and hmm.

  The Mandalorian. It was equal to fantastic job.

  Yeah. It was good quality.

  That's all because those cheeks were.

  Yeah, made her cheekbones were amazing.

  How about? Yeah, the she doesn't need

  bun reference because her hair was in like the double buns like

  Leia. I mean it was very obviously, a

  no Maj because I'm sure beru wouldn't have had those complex

  buns, but I still enjoyed the nod.

  But doesn't she actually have to like base of the neck or base of

  the head? Maybe in the prequels in the

  original trilogy. She's just got a short haircut.

  She's had enough. That's a middle-aged woman.

  Who's had enough raised a son that wasn't her own.

  Yeah, she's tired with a man. Like her husband, a cranky

  gentlemen. So, I mean, yeah, that's, that's

  the kind of haircut, I would expect.

  I like the nod to, to lay his buns.

  I would just say overall, it was very entertaining, it was, I was

  just impressed that a group of fans put something together.

  That was so beautiful and totally very clearly, a love

  letter to Star Wars and it was fun to watch and it's a good way

  to get in the mood for Kenobi. It makes me wonder like if

  anything if they hit and Mark with any of this stuff same I

  was wondering that as I was watching it you know with Cano
• 20:43
  with the Kenobi TV series looming.

  Yeah I wonder if Jamie will sit and say what's the same and what

  is it? You know like yeah wonder what

  that feels like for him. And I have the rest of his team

  that put that together. That's actually it's

  interesting. You say that because like two

  days ago, he re-released the film in 4k.

  I was stupid. I was like wow that's a little

  bit blurry on my TV because it's it was from I was watching the

  version of few from a few years ago and then I realized right

  next to the one that I had clicked on is like this, the 4K

  I should have watched the 4K version.

  So I think my favorite part was when the lightsaber was there

  and baby will say young Luke. Oh yeah.

  It was like staring at it mesmerized by it.

  Yeah, I couldn't help it. Like can he feel his father's

  presence or can he feel like some kind of tug that he doesn't

  know what that means? Yeah, I wondered that too.

  He's just feeling it intuitively.

  Yeah, I really love that they held that shot and like put or

  like wanted that in this like Luke staring at it like almost

  like wow like what is that shiny thing?

  And in my head Canon I'm thinking oh he hears or feel

  Into it and one it's you know what happens later on.
