A former Brazoria County deputy, Kevin Tippit, has been indicted for fatally shooting 18-year-old John Mendoza Jr. during a high-speed traffic stop that ended inside a family garage. Tippit allegedly fired through Mendoza’s car window after pursuing him for running red lights; Mendoza died at the hospital. The case, now charged as aggravated assault by a peace officer, follows an “accidental discharge” report by Tippit and a Texas Rangers investigation.
