- 0:39SPEAKER_04: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast.
- 0:44SPEAKER_04: I am Steven Rodriguez, your host.
- 0:47SPEAKER_04: Tristan McGonagall is your co-host, and I'm ready to run through a wall, dude.
- 0:52SPEAKER_03: I I know, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to pay a lot to the landlord because there's a lot of damage in here from all the wall running.
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: But talk about a 180 from last week's episode.
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: We went from absolute bottom of the rock to on top of the mountain, and I couldn't, I literally couldn't be happier right now about all this.
- 1:11SPEAKER_04: These last two days have been unbelievable for tech fans, for the city of Lubbock, for Texas Tech in general.
- 1:21SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's just been awesome, dude.
- 1:23SPEAKER_04: Seeing the fan base unite around Mark Adams uh has been something that I really haven't experienced, I don't think, as a tech fan.
- 1:32SPEAKER_04: I mean, you know, the highest of high was probably that 2019, you know, March Madness run, but but this is definitely something that I haven't seen really anywhere.
- 1:43SPEAKER_04: I don't think anybody has united around a single coaching hire like we have with Mark Adams.
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: I you know, we we've been in this fandom for a while now, and I couldn't have I I don't think I could ever be more proud of our fans than now.
- 1:59SPEAKER_03: Um that this it really does feel like a family.
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: It and Mark Adams obviously put a big exclamation point on that, and I I I couldn't be more impressed with how the love it community has come out, and our fans have just embraced him immediately, and it's just nothing but love right now.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: And I I'm incredibly happy.
- 2:19SPEAKER_03: There's no there's like not a shadow of a doubt in this fan base right now, and I love it.
- 2:25SPEAKER_04: No, he this is 100% we are behind Mark Adams.
- 2:30SPEAKER_04: I mean, watching that press conference today, seeing him pretty much just overcome with emotion, talking about his family, talking about you know, just everything.
- 2:40SPEAKER_04: He's never been a Division I Power Five head coach before.
- 2:45SPEAKER_04: And for him to get this job at 64 years old, you can see because he is grinded his entire career.
- 2:53SPEAKER_04: I mean, I'm running down his list right now, Clarendon College, Wayland Baptist, West Texas AM, Texas Pan American, Howard College, Little Rock, and then finally, finally getting his shot to be a Division I Power Five Big 12 head coach.
- 3:11SPEAKER_04: I mean, it it's unbelievable for that guy.
- 3:14SPEAKER_03: At his dream job, at his hometown team, the place he dreamed of doing, you know, and it you can really you really believe it.
- 3:23SPEAKER_03: Every word, every word that left that man's lips was full of nothing but genuine humbleness and honesty.
- 3:31SPEAKER_03: And I I really could not be more proud to have a man represent us on the stage like he is, uh, and him being who he is.
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: This this man is truly, you can just hear from the way he speaks and how emotionally got it.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: The man was up there in tears.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: And I just I loved him being able to embrace his emotion like that and just be able to show it to all of us because we're we're we're feeling it.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: We and we're throwing it right back.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: And I like I said, man, it's I'm emotional.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: I I cried and I cried with him, and I was in a dealership with my my broke tires and everything.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: So I was I was maybe crying about my wallet, but I no, I was absolutely crying about um I was crying with him with how just with the happiness and obviously um the way he spoke about his family and the way he spoke about Lubbock, West Texas, and Texas Tech.
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: It just made me emotional.
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: That was like everything about being a tech fan wrapped up in one press conference.
- 4:24SPEAKER_04: That's I mean, you said it perfectly.
- 4:26SPEAKER_04: It was uh I I was just like, I don't feel this way this often, you know, just coming together, rallying around a guy, and just you know, like like I said on last week's pod, you know, putting 100% of your faith and trust into a sports figure.
- 4:43SPEAKER_04: And, you know, it happens every once in a while, and it's happening right now with Coach Adams.
- 4:49SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, we'll see how he does as a head coach.
- 4:52SPEAKER_04: That's still seen to be, but obviously, you know, talking about his past and his, you know, what he's been doing as a coach, what he's known for, is his defensive mindset that he brings to this game and what he's brought to Texas Tech the last five years.
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: His defensive scheme has been one of the best in all of college basketball.
- 5:12SPEAKER_04: And so he's finding a staff to help recruit the guys, he's already retaining guys.
- 5:18SPEAKER_04: We haven't even gotten to that yet.
- 5:20SPEAKER_04: I mean, it was like it was like one after the other good things that happened yesterday.
- 5:25SPEAKER_04: It was Coach Adams getting hired, and then uh, who was it?
- 5:29SPEAKER_04: Kevin McCullough coming back, deciding, hey, I'm gonna rally around Coach Adams because I love that guy.
- 5:35SPEAKER_04: And then, if everything we all thought freaking Kyler Edwards was gone, he decides to tweet out Red Raider for life.
- 5:42SPEAKER_04: I'm coming back as well.
- 5:44SPEAKER_04: Dude, just unbelievable stuff.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: I'm just gonna use the quote that Mark Adams was saying, you know, he's obviously a big boxer and big boxing fan.
- 5:52SPEAKER_03: And he says, you know, it's whenever you get knocked out, you get knocked down a lot.
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: And obviously, what follows up with that, it's not about how you get knocked down, it's how you get back up.
- 6:00SPEAKER_03: And I literally could not envision a better way to get back up.
- 6:05SPEAKER_03: We're not just getting back up.
- 6:06SPEAKER_03: We're we're we're up and big and we're ready to take a swing because of the way that the everything has responded from what went down just a few days ago.
- 6:15SPEAKER_03: That feels like years ago now, after uh Mark Adams taking that podium, and he really put all of us at ease and just gave us hope that perhaps we didn't even feel before about the future of this program.
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: And I I can lean in I'm sorry, I'm stumbling over my words because I was still so hyped up about it.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: And well, like you were saying with the players, and that that might be one of the best parts about it is how genuinely happy players, current and former, were for the man.
- 6:46SPEAKER_03: Not not not necessarily like the program itself, which obviously they love, but they couldn't be happier for the man that they love, you know, seeing the way he grinded and fought his way to this position.
- 6:57SPEAKER_03: They they know more than anyone that he deserves this, and I'm so excited to experience that.
- 7:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, me too.
- 7:03SPEAKER_04: I'm excited to see that first game.
- 7:06SPEAKER_04: Uh, and even you know, when Chris Beer comes to town, just seeing the absolute outpouring of support and love that this fan base is gonna have for Mark Adams and for you know everybody on this team.
- 7:18SPEAKER_04: And we're gonna have one of the most experienced teams coming into next season with Kyler returning, with McCullough returning, with Marcus San Osilva returning, uh, you know, guys like Agbos coming back, Avery Benson and uh Clarence Nadolny.
- 7:35SPEAKER_04: You know, we have at least six returning guys coming back.
- 7:38SPEAKER_04: We're still up in the air about guys like Tyreek Smith and Micah Peavy, but you know, I wouldn't put it past them to come back.
- 7:44SPEAKER_04: And we don't even know about Terrence Shannon or Mac McClung yet.
- 7:48SPEAKER_04: So just having this base and this core of guys returning under Mark Adams, it's like, dude, I was so down in the dumps yesterday.
- 7:56SPEAKER_04: I was like, we're we're probably gonna suck next year.
- 7:58SPEAKER_04: And then to do a complete 180, like you said, saying we're gonna have one of the most experienced rosters in the Big 12 and the NCAA next season.
- 8:07SPEAKER_04: It's just hype, man.
- 8:08SPEAKER_04: It's so much hype, dude.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: It was so cool to see all of his players out there just supporting him in his in his brightest moment.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: Uh, and we have Vegas odds to win it all next year.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, uh a school in Austin doesn't have any uh that I saw on that list.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: And it and I you and I were talking about this last night, and we were just like, what the heck is a rebuild?
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: No rebuild here, man.
- 8:31SPEAKER_03: This is the foundation has been laid, and we are we're just gonna take our boys and run with it because they seem ready, they seem hungry, and obviously the fans are ready to back them up.
- 8:41SPEAKER_03: And I'm I'm so happy we get to avoid the slump that could have occurred, you know, had this gone where the way it normally does.
- 8:49SPEAKER_03: I don't think I've ever seen a program bounce back after their star legendary coach leaves.
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: You know, normally that that's just a recipe for falling apart of it, and that's not happening whatsoever right now.
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: Um, and I that just that just gives you even more reason to be excited for next season.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: Basketball is still going to be the season we look forward to, and that's so cool to say.
- 9:13SPEAKER_03: You know what that happens with?
- 9:14SPEAKER_04: It happens with blue bloods.
- 9:16SPEAKER_04: And I'm not saying that we're a blue blood because we're not, but we are more than on our way to being a premier program, just like Herbie Hokett said in the press conference of college basketball.
- 9:27SPEAKER_04: I mean, we are here, we have put in the time, we have put in the effort, we put in the money and the uh just everything.
- 9:33SPEAKER_04: We have the fan base for it.
- 9:35SPEAKER_04: Guy, this is a destination, and Mark Adams is only gonna continue it, you know.
- 9:41SPEAKER_04: He's he's I'm just so unbelievably happy with how this last 36 hours has gone.
- 9:49SPEAKER_04: And uh, you know, I I just I'm speechless right now, man.
- 9:53SPEAKER_03: I'm glad you brought up Kirby.
- 9:55SPEAKER_03: And can I just say how happy and and reminded about how lucky we are to have him?
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: Um a while ago, I was I was faltering on my faith with faith with him, as I'm sure many of us do from every once in a while.
- 10:08SPEAKER_03: Um, think about you know what's gone down, like with the state of the football program, and you know, lose losing Chris Beard and and some things going on in the women's sports.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: But the way this man was just fired up and just ang just angrier than we were, and I just drove him to do what he did, you know, and and and pick the best man that we all know is gonna do the best job.
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: I I'm just so thankful for Kirby Hokut, and he's just he represents Texas Tech so well.
- 10:38SPEAKER_03: And I've just I've just I just a renewed respect for him.
- 10:42SPEAKER_04: Absolutely, man.
- 10:43SPEAKER_04: I I think a lot of people were feeling that same way with Kirby.
- 10:47SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, after losing Chris Beard, you know, you you hear tweets even before Beard leaves, like, hey, you know, if if Beard decides to leave, Kirby's gotta go.
- 10:55SPEAKER_04: And it's like, hey man, he absolutely made the best decision in this process.
- 11:00SPEAKER_04: I know we I was personally gunning for Darvin Ham to take the spot, but now realizing and seeing the fan base rally behind Mark Adams, I I can't say this wasn't the best decision and the best hire.
- 11:15SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, Kirby did his due diligence, he and he's doing this all while hyper-emotional, all while pissed off and upset, and a lot of but a lot of people would have done something to maybe wouldn't have been in the right mindset.
- 11:31SPEAKER_04: But he went after it and he got his guy and he got the right guy for the job.
- 11:35SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 11:36SPEAKER_03: And it was so cool.
- 11:36SPEAKER_03: I was reading a Don article saying about uh how the president and and Kirby they got phone calls from names coast to coast, interested in the job, like they didn't even have to reach out, and people were already getting calls from agents, and just shows the desk the destination that this place has been turned into, like you touched on before.
- 11:54SPEAKER_03: And Kirby is a bedrock part of that.
- 11:57SPEAKER_03: Like our our athletics have really skyrocketed under his reign from top to bottom.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: Obviously, football is not where it needs to be, but this is positive vibes only.
- 12:05SPEAKER_03: And speaking of football, thank you, Matt Wells, for being there.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: Uh for thank you.
- 12:10SPEAKER_04: Thank you to all the coaches.
- 12:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that was really cool.
- 12:13SPEAKER_04: And I gotta think that was orchestrated by Kirby to get the whole entire sports organization, every organization at Texas Tech.
- 12:22SPEAKER_04: I think I don't think Tim Tadlock was there, but I think he's preparing for a game.
- 12:26SPEAKER_04: But every coach that could have been there was there supporting Mark Adams, and that just goes to show how much we put into this basketball program and how much we really care, and that's across all sports about Texas Tech.
- 12:39SPEAKER_03: And you you know Mark Adams is friends with each and every one of them, and you know that they they they love that guy because if he's if he's just as real on that podium as he is with everyone he talks to, and it really seems like he is with the way put players talk about him.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: I how could you not love the man?
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: How could you not want him to be your friend?
- 12:55SPEAKER_03: How could you not want him in your corner?
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: So I just love seeing the coaches be in his corner.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: So I again just another amazing moment from all of our head coaches that could be there, and I just uh one of my one of my favorite days in Raider Land in memory, honestly.
- 13:11SPEAKER_04: Man, it's a good time to be a red raider, an amazing time to be a red raider.
- 13:15SPEAKER_04: It's like, I mean, we have a lot of good things going for us right now.
- 13:19SPEAKER_04: So I I'm just so hyped about uh this upcoming basketball season.
- 13:24SPEAKER_04: I was down in the dumps about 36 hours ago, and now I'm over the moon, and it's just uh it's it's a great feeling.
- 13:32SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, man.
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: It's it really, it really, really is.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: This can turn into an a an amazing story to for the ages, you know.
- 13:41SPEAKER_04: 30 for 30.
- 13:42SPEAKER_04: Do it right now.
- 13:43SPEAKER_04: Start filming, ESPN.
- 13:45SPEAKER_04: Start it.
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: Obviously, we we don't want to get too far ahead of your ourselves, but I I don't I don't care.
- 13:51SPEAKER_03: I I'm I'm I'm about Mark Adams the guy, and I'm all I'm about Texas Tech to School in our basketball program.
- 13:56SPEAKER_03: I am all over all of it right now, and I would I couldn't I wouldn't pick liter literally anyone else for this job right now, after what I heard today.
- 14:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, man.
- 14:06SPEAKER_04: I I feel the exact same way.
- 14:08SPEAKER_04: Um, and it looks like I mean, I'm excited to see who Mark Adams takes on to the staff and you know how he builds it going forward, but it looks like we got one at least assistant coach uh to come from Portland State.
- 14:20SPEAKER_04: Barrett Peary uh looks like is joining Mark Adams in Lubbock to be an assistant coach.
- 14:28SPEAKER_04: Uh, from the things I've heard about Peary, he runs a really, really fast-paced offense and he's an offensive-minded guy.
- 14:35SPEAKER_04: Uh Portland State, they they lead or they're up there in the entire NCAA and pace, which is something we're not used to.
- 14:44SPEAKER_04: At Texas Tech, we've had one of the slower pace teams in all of college basketball, so that's gonna be an adjustment.
- 14:50SPEAKER_04: But with Mark Adams defense and this guy coming over, I mean, I'm excited.
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: Please fix this trash beard fast break nonsense.
- 15:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: Um uh I'm really excited about assistance now.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: After what we see in Mark Adams, I'm like, I'm like, who's that gonna be?
- 15:07SPEAKER_03: Who's that Mark Adams?
- 15:08SPEAKER_03: You know, I'm just I'm really excited to like you're saying, I'm really excited to see who we brings on board.
- 15:14SPEAKER_03: And what I've seen online in the room in the you know, in the in the mill, people like the guy, people like um, people like the Portland State coach that we uh were bringing on.
- 15:22SPEAKER_03: They have good things to say about him.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: I haven't really seen anything that's concerning yet.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: So uh I'm really excited to see what he brings to the table.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: Would that make him the number two?
- 15:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it looks like he, I mean, I would imagine he's number one uh assistant.
- 15:35SPEAKER_04: So I don't know how they do it at Texas Tech.
- 15:37SPEAKER_04: I know that each assistant coach brings something different, you know.
- 15:40SPEAKER_04: Obviously, recruiting is a big part of that job, and and I've heard he's a great recruiter.
- 15:45SPEAKER_04: So um, you know, I I just I just imagine he's a he's a great hire.
- 15:50SPEAKER_04: So I'm not gonna I I don't know enough.
- 15:52SPEAKER_04: I didn't obviously like you and like every Texas Tech fan, except for uh select few, did not watch any Portland State games this season.
- 16:01SPEAKER_04: So I guess we'll see how that works out.
- 16:03SPEAKER_03: All I know is it's full full court press like all the time.
- 16:07SPEAKER_03: So I'm I'm interested to see if that's incorporated at tech and see what we do with that.
- 16:12SPEAKER_03: Um, but I it's worked it's worked in the Big 12 before with uh West Virginia, press Virginia.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: So we'll see.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: That was the first thing that came to mind for me as well.
- 16:21SPEAKER_03: So and I'm just I'm really excited to see someone come in and shake up the offense.
- 16:24SPEAKER_03: And uh, I mean, even Mark Adams, I was watching the uh insider uh interview of him, and he says that you know, even though he's a defensive-minded guy, he said if he was picking on a team, if he could have a better offense or defense, he said it's offense.
- 16:37SPEAKER_03: So I I obviously the guy cares about that side of the ball just as much as the defense side of the ball.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: So I think we're gonna look, we're gonna be finding ourselves with a really balanced team, and uh that was something that's been missing.
- 16:47SPEAKER_03: You know, offense was way had way more to be desired this past season.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: So I'm really excited for the shakeup.
- 16:54SPEAKER_04: No doubt, no doubt.
- 16:56SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, just officially saw the Ross John Rosteen tweet saying that all six of those players, uh, the four that were in attendance, plus Kyler Edwards and Kevin McCullough are gonna return to this team.
- 17:08SPEAKER_04: So having that core of guys, it looks like some big minutes for Buzo, I imagine, next season uh coming in.
- 17:14SPEAKER_04: And then I have a really good feeling about Jalen Tyson keeping keeping his word and still going to Texas Tech.
- 17:22SPEAKER_04: Um, obviously, Chris Beard's not the only guy that recruited him.
- 17:25SPEAKER_04: If anything, it was the assistants that had the most contact with him.
- 17:28SPEAKER_04: So um we did lose a few other guys from from Chris Beard's staff, but you know, retaining Mark Adams has gives me a lot of confidence that we're gonna retain Jalen Tyson.
- 17:39SPEAKER_04: Uh and he adds a lot, man.
- 17:41SPEAKER_04: He's uh he's a great shooter, and that's something we really lacked this past season was outside shooting.
- 17:46SPEAKER_04: So getting him involved.
- 17:48SPEAKER_04: I mean, he's a four-star recruit, he's awesome.
- 17:50SPEAKER_04: So uh just looking forward to seeing his decision and hopefully seeing him in in the red and black next season.
- 17:58SPEAKER_03: It would have been so great for uh for Mark to be picking up the phone because he made that awesome statement that just made us all fall in love.
- 18:05SPEAKER_03: I fell in love with him as soon as he did that.
- 18:07SPEAKER_03: I was like, Oh, this guy's the best.
- 18:09SPEAKER_03: Saying that he may have to top off for a call for a recruiter call.
- 18:12SPEAKER_03: I was like, maybe if only he called, if only if only our guy called, and your your your detective work was spot on today, I must say.
- 18:19SPEAKER_03: So hey man, peep the insta.
- 18:22SPEAKER_04: You see, look at the comments, look at the likes, and you'll see.
- 18:26SPEAKER_04: But no, but back to what you said earlier about the fan base.
- 18:30SPEAKER_04: I just want to harp on it a little more.
- 18:33SPEAKER_04: Seeing that that that hilarious video of Chris Beard and his fiance walking in to what was probably a tour of the facilities or whatever, uh, and really just a sad performance by the by the longhorn cheer, the the longhorn cheerleaders.
- 18:51SPEAKER_04: Uh, just really no hype at all.
- 18:54SPEAKER_04: Excited, and that just really states it about how Texas feels about basketball.
- 18:58SPEAKER_04: Um, and and then seeing how we introduced our new head coach.
- 19:04SPEAKER_04: I mean, we we hold a party, we hold a freaking tailgate before the press conference and have a almost half a stadium full of people just hyped up about Mark Adams.
- 19:16SPEAKER_04: It just goes to show you that we are the best fan base in the Big 12.
- 19:20SPEAKER_03: We're different, man.
- 19:21SPEAKER_03: West Texas is different, and it was so cool to see Lubbock businesses just come out for Mark Adams.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: It was so cool to see Two Docs, the local brewery company, uh stick by their word for Chris.
- 19:31SPEAKER_03: But we're like, Mark, you're never gonna have to pay for a beer in your life.
- 19:34SPEAKER_04: And theyavy maze did too with with barbecue.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: And um, I'm I'm sure every business in Lubbock feels the same way.
- 19:42SPEAKER_03: And even Two Docs brought kegs out for that tailgate, so you could have been drinking some 2 docs beer before the the presser.
- 19:48SPEAKER_03: And I I just I was so impressed with our fan base, and I I'm not but I'm not surprised at all.
- 19:54SPEAKER_03: And it brought you could tell how humbled uh Mark Adams was and how humbled Chris Kirby Hoka was as well.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: And he just it it just there's no better party than what we saw today.
- 20:07SPEAKER_03: And I'm again, I I I just get so excited talking about where I lose words, but I'm just so impressed and so proud of Red Raider Nation.
- 20:14SPEAKER_04: No doubt.
- 20:15SPEAKER_04: And I have a lot of confidence moving forward with the state of the basketball program, with baseball, with football, even with football, I'm happy.
- 20:23SPEAKER_04: I have positive vibes only seeing Matt Wells go up and just get hyped.
- 20:27SPEAKER_04: He was the most hyped coach out there.
- 20:29SPEAKER_04: So he's he's in he's embraced the culture too.
- 20:31SPEAKER_04: So I'm back on uh, like you said before the pod, uh, I'm back on the Matt Wells trade.
- 20:37SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm sorry.
- 20:38SPEAKER_04: Uh maybe we're just too far removed from football season, but I am back on the Matt Wells trade.
- 20:44SPEAKER_03: Dude, I I just appreciate the passion and being there and being in wanting to be a part of the community.
- 20:50SPEAKER_03: That I feel like that's that's such an underrated part of being a coach, especially in college.
- 20:55SPEAKER_04: You don't get that a lot, man.
- 20:56SPEAKER_04: You really don't, like, especially in a place you're not from when you're you know this high level of a coach, it it just doesn't happen that often.
- 21:04SPEAKER_04: And Matt Wells has really embraced it.
- 21:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and he's gone to like local concerts and done like greater powers at concerts and stuff.
- 21:11SPEAKER_03: So I I Matt Wells is the guy, you know, like is like the as is the kind of man I want to be the coach.
- 21:18SPEAKER_03: I I just really hope uh I I have a lot of confidence in it happening this season that the the the product improves because I'm obviously that that's that has to happen, but I have good vibes only from this press rate, especially seeing uh Wells jump up and just go crazy with the with the crowd.
- 21:34SPEAKER_03: So I loved it.
- 21:35SPEAKER_03: And one more thing about another thing about the crowd is I'm very happy that our crowd didn't harp on uh anything crisp beard.
- 21:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I uh the booze were fine.
- 21:45SPEAKER_03: Obviously, that's gonna happen, and then I and um obviously Mark was gonna bring it up, but I was really worried that there might have been like a bit of a racket with um you know some strange crispier.
- 21:56SPEAKER_04: Screaming some profanities.
- 21:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, screaming some profanities, but no.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: just it was a really mature atmosphere and it was just it was nothing but good vibes and and I'm again just applaud the people that showed up for sure because it's not about Chris Beard it's it's not it's about mark adams now it's his team it's his program it's not I mean we're not I'm Chris Beard's outside out of mind right now I mean it's it's Mark Adams it's his team he's a Texas tech he is a Texas tech guy uh and we're just we're just ready to move forward like they like they keep saying like we said like we titled uh the last episode it's just move forward we're we're ready we're not gonna harp on the past we're not gonna it's just not worth it we're too high profile of a program to be doing that so we just need to move forward and we're a destination now and Chris Beard is not the only thing that is keeping this program running no but I I love that you know people like Kirby and and others have been really harping on it's it's not one man it's it was you know it took a it took a everyone to build the build the the beast that this program has become so I I have really good really great hopes about going forward man.
- 23:08SPEAKER_03: So if you couldn't tell I think we would give this hire a 10 out of 10 it is an upgrade I'm already booking it.
- 23:15SPEAKER_03: I'm I put stamped upgrade already we got the defense back that's all I care about.
- 23:21SPEAKER_04: Oh well what is what's what's good Chris gonna go with his offense yeah it's real it's real awesome I saw I saw a tweet today that showed uh it was just like a a link to the Texas uh roster like the Longhorn roster and it literally just showed Chris Beard like it didn't show any players it didn't show any other coaches it was just Chris Beard and it's like that perfectly states it you're on your own now man yeah you had the best fan base and now you're going to that time to go you know do whatever you have to do with your ego over in Austin dude it just is his true colors really shined out the man the man has an ego he he bought a whole page in the Austin newspaper like saying come out and support us okay bro all right man this you realize you're not in a college town anymore right and this this town is not gonna is not gonna give you the love and support that you you expect out of a college town it's just not gonna happen and I really hope they don't they don't give you any so that is that is my biggest thing about Austin like it's a it's a city it is you know it's a fun place whatever you know it's got some great bars some good times it's not a college town it's Austin it's way too big the entire city does not rally around no university of Texas it just doesn't so that's one of my biggest beefs there may there may have been a time a long time ago whenever the city the the the capital did you know orbit around UT but it's not the case anymore it's with there's well over a million people in the city it's a corporate uh concrete you know complex yeah it's it's not it's not it does not resemble anything close to a college town so uh he's he's gonna be he's gonna have a big door you know of a reality smack in his face and I I'm really excited to see it come and just pop him me too oh man so this has been a great day this has been a great day just overall uh we've been getting a lot of love on Twitter lately so I want to take a minute to thank you know all the treasured listeners out there are treasured followers if you're following us on Twitter we really appreciate it you know we're getting a lot of hype uh as of late uh a lot of love on the tweets so uh shouts out to all of you listening um and man I you know I I think just closing on we're gonna make this episode just about uh you know Mark Adams and and the the future of Texas Tech basketball but you know we'll get back to our normal state our normal kind of kind of mojo in the next couple weeks but this has just been such great news that we had to make this episode just about Mark Adams um but you know closing statement like I said we have a lot to look forward to we went from zero to a hundred so keep supporting this team keep doing what you've been doing Red Raider Nation we are out here and we are a destination I I I don't think I can even top that man we haven't skipped a beat I know our fan base is not light letting up with their support at all and I think really the big question now is what's going to be the Mark Adams quip that you know is our outro well he's got a real question.
- 26:33SPEAKER_03: He's got such a West Texas kind of old boy accent like Tim Tadlock he'll fit right in so I was just you know I was with my with my girlfriend uh about about like all three of our coaches sound like old boys now and it's they really do it's the just good old country boys and it's so funny.
- 26:47SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: It's so Texas tech that's what we need at Texas tech.
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: We need those type of dudes absolutely man but all right we're gonna finish off this episode with song of the week we didn't do it last week we're gonna do it now Tristan go ahead all right for my song of the week I really wanted to stick to Lubbock because that's we're all about staying in Lubbock and wanting to be in Lubbock like our boy Mark Adams like grandpa Mark Adams.
- 27:10SPEAKER_03: He's our grandpa now he's everyone's grandpa uh I'm gonna go with William Clark Green.
- 27:15SPEAKER_03: He is a a Texas Tech alumnus he has built quite the life for him in the Texas songwriter scene and I have been loving this song ever since it dropped I know he he made it into a single eventually but I was I was there for it first.
- 27:27SPEAKER_03: It's She Loves Horses off of his album A Bear Island and that's my favorite album by him it's his most recent one and I love that song it just it's everything that mainstream country should be he nails it I love it so much.
- 27:53SPEAKER_04: Right on man well I'm going with a song that's a little different from William Clark Green I'm gonna do a small you know not very well known guy named Kendrick Lamar uh I'm going to do his guy is he West I think yeah Compton Compton it's kind of up up in the panhandle sort of area uh no but I'm going with Kendrick Lamar I was I was debating between two of these I'm going with DNA by Kendrick Lamar uh and specifically for the lyric loyalty got royalty inside my DNA because that is Mark Adams.
- 28:32SPEAKER_04: He is a king he is the king of West Texas right now and he's the most loyal dude of all time uh the other song I was debating was actually loyalty by Kendrick Lamar but that was just not as hype DNA gets you a little more hyped up like what we are right now.
- 28:47SPEAKER_04: So give that one a I'm sure you know everybody's listening to that one but that's my song of the week.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: I got loyalty got royalty inside my DNA cocaine corner piece got warm piece inside my DNA I got power poison pain and joy inside my DNA I got hustle though ambition flow inside my DNA.
- 29:05SPEAKER_04: Alright we got a bit this was a big contrasting week in the songs but I like how we're they're pretty they're pretty similar they could do a little genre bending you know I'd like to see I'd like to see William Clark Green rap and I'd like to see Kendrick Lamar sing country music I I I don't know about that.
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: You might be alone there but maybe I I I love the energy on it and again thank you I'm gonna follow up with Steven thank you so much for the treasure listeners with all the the hype you know on Twitter and all that I mean we're it's we're we're y'all you know we're just two dudes talking tech.
