- 0:08Speaker 1: Well like millions of sleeping beauties are woken from our
- 0:11Speaker 1: fitful slumber not by some sappy prince, but by eighty
- 0:15Speaker 1: magnificent athletes with grit and grace and athleticism and intestinal
- 0:21Speaker 1: fortitude and awesome ponytails. They made Australia rise up for
- 0:26Speaker 1: two hundred and forty glorious minutes on the weekend that
- 0:28Speaker 1: we have waited so long for. Maybe we won't live
- 0:31Speaker 1: happily ever after, but man, for the next seventeen weeks,
- 0:33Speaker 1: we will live very happily because the world's best netball
- 0:36Speaker 1: league is back. We've got a lot to talk about.
- 0:39Speaker 1: You're on No Dribble strap in Hello and welcome to
- 0:54Speaker 1: No Dribble, the podcast where we talk about netball. We
- 0:57Speaker 1: talk about so much more. It's happy news and sad
- 1:00Speaker 1: news this week. The happy news is that news is here, yay.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Hello.
- 1:05Speaker 1: The sad news, which will be immediately followed by some
- 1:08Speaker 1: very happy news, is that CAF is on a plane
- 1:10Speaker 1: at the moment. But here is the great news. We
- 1:13Speaker 1: have our very very dear friends, so Gordyan joining us. Yay.
- 1:16Speaker 2: The season starts and I am back.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Welcome back, Cotter.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Thank you, Oh great show that was loved.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Welcome.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Yes, good to be here. Thank you girls. Been listening
- 1:26Speaker 2: every week like a fan. Now I get to love
- 1:29Speaker 2: it like an idiot.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Nice taking. Is this our first time with you this year?
- 1:33Speaker 1: I think it is, isn't it?
- 1:33Speaker 3: It was obviously memorable if I was previously back, But no,
- 1:36Speaker 3: this is the first stime.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Well Mark, I'm going to say happy New Year because
- 1:42Speaker 1: it's happy.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Yeah, Happy Easter, maybe Christmas, all those things CAP does early. Yeah,
- 1:48Speaker 2: this is true.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I think she's just she's scouting her next Christmas tree
- 1:51Speaker 3: as we speak.
- 1:52Speaker 2: She's not really on a plane.
- 1:53Speaker 3: She's she's at the gold Case Christmas shop, just searching
- 1:56Speaker 3: for the for the specials for next year, for this year.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Soorry. Hey, it's so lovely to have you here. Thanks
- 2:02Speaker 2: Elizabeth as particularly.
- 2:03Speaker 3: After the weekend showed that we are in for a
- 2:07Speaker 3: terrific season of netball. Got to say, I didn't see
- 2:10Speaker 3: Fever picking up that win, but they did. We'll talk
- 2:13Speaker 3: about that in segment two. But something else happened on
- 2:16Speaker 3: the weekend that I want to quiz you about you
- 2:19Speaker 3: and Catherine. You and Catherine in commentary will very similar outfits.
- 2:24Speaker 3: I mean, only your mothers could tell the difference. So
- 2:27Speaker 3: I really I just don't know what's going on a
- 2:32Speaker 3: white jacket gate.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Well, i'll tell you what's going on.
- 2:35Speaker 3: At ten forty five perth time last night, I got
- 2:37Speaker 3: a text from Catherine Cox saying with two photos, one
- 2:40Speaker 3: of her, one of me, saying we're twiny. And I'm like,
- 2:43Speaker 3: I wasn't even interested in the photos. I'm like, who
- 2:45Speaker 3: texts at ten forty five pm perth time, I'm an
- 2:49Speaker 3: eight pm bad person, rocket like I'm gone. And then
- 2:53Speaker 3: I'm like, ten forty five where you is?
- 2:54Speaker 2: She?
- 2:55Speaker 3: She's on the Gold Coast. It's like ten eleven to
- 2:57Speaker 3: one five in the morning. I don't understand.
- 3:00Speaker 2: So our dear friend Katherine cops I reckon went out
- 3:02Speaker 2: on the town last night potentially picked up who knows
- 3:07Speaker 2: or we'll find out. We'll know soon enough. Yes, it
- 3:10Speaker 2: was white jacket gate.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Oh so that got me thinking, I think you both
- 3:14Speaker 3: looked resplendent in the white jacket. Got to say when
- 3:17Speaker 3: I when I was commentating, there is no way known
- 3:19Speaker 3: that I would wear a white jacket, because very soon
- 3:21Speaker 3: it would be a white jacket covered in coffee, tea, chocolate,
- 3:24Speaker 3: something brown. But so I thought it was brave, but
- 3:28Speaker 3: it also got me thinking about wearing the same thing,
- 3:32Speaker 3: because have you got so One of the no Dribble
- 3:37Speaker 3: recommends a few weeks ago, Carolyn you recommended All Her Fault.
- 3:41Speaker 3: I have been watching on Binge Fantastic. I've got one
- 3:44Speaker 3: more episode to go, and you know, it's like the
- 3:47Speaker 3: last mouthful of a really delicious is it. I don't
- 3:50Speaker 3: know that I want to eat it because I don't
- 3:51Speaker 3: know that I want it to end. So I've just
- 3:53Speaker 3: sort of I watched a binge too on Binge funnily
- 3:56Speaker 3: enough on Saturday night, and then I thought, oh, I
- 3:59Speaker 3: might just leave it and just think about it for
- 4:01Speaker 3: a week and think about it all the ways it
- 4:03Speaker 3: might end. But the start of that show, the two
- 4:06Speaker 3: main protagonists, the female leads I can't remember their character names,
- 4:11Speaker 3: with Sarah Snook and Dakota Fanning. They bond over wearing
- 4:14Speaker 3: the same dress to a function. And this week I've
- 4:18Speaker 3: also I've also discovered that did you know that four
- 4:24Speaker 3: girls who are in year twelve going to formals?
- 4:27Speaker 2: And I don't know, however it might be year ten
- 4:30Speaker 2: as well.
- 4:31Speaker 3: They start up websites when so my niece is heading
- 4:34Speaker 3: to is in year twelve and she's heading towards her
- 4:36Speaker 3: U twelve formal at the end of this year. And
- 4:38Speaker 3: she went shopping for a dress a couple of weeks ago,
- 4:40Speaker 3: and I said to my sister, isn't that a bit early,
- 4:43Speaker 3: like it's March. Why is she so organized? And she said, no, no, no,
- 4:46Speaker 3: you absolutely have to get organized early. And then they
- 4:49Speaker 3: take a photo of themselves and crop the head out
- 4:51Speaker 3: to remain anonymous, and then they put the dress up
- 4:54Speaker 3: on this website so that everyone knows what dress they're wearing,
- 4:58Speaker 3: so you don't double up. And I was like, oh,
- 5:01Speaker 3: why is that an issue? Because I'm an idiot and
- 5:03Speaker 3: I don't know stuff. And she said, and she's a
- 5:05Speaker 3: school teacher, my sister, and she said, I have been
- 5:07Speaker 3: at formals where two girls have come in and worn
- 5:10Speaker 3: the same dress and just looked at each other and
- 5:12Speaker 3: laughed their heads off and hung out all night. Now
- 5:14Speaker 3: I've been at formers where two girls have walked in
- 5:16Speaker 3: and worn the same dress and the tears and it's
- 5:20Speaker 3: been a massive drama.
- 5:22Speaker 2: So this avoids that drama. But I also feel like
- 5:24Speaker 2: it avoids the opportunity.
- 5:26Speaker 3: To become best friends with the person that you were
- 5:27Speaker 3: in the same clothes as I discuss I've got I've
- 5:31Speaker 3: got a perfect story to tell you off the you.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Would I So this is not just for everyone listening.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Sue has not been given any notification of what this
- 5:42Speaker 1: story or this chat was going to be about. So
- 5:44Speaker 1: this is straight off the top of it is, and
- 5:46Speaker 1: it's probably going.
- 5:46Speaker 2: To embarrass me, but you know, why not on a
- 5:48Speaker 2: Monday morning? So perfect? I know school formals because I
- 5:53Speaker 2: left school way too early. I hated it. However, this
- 5:56Speaker 2: was a few years back in Netball.
- 5:58Speaker 3: WA and You'll dinner and I had sort of forgotten
- 6:02Speaker 3: that it was in the calendar.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Don't know why.
- 6:04Speaker 3: It wasn't a fever dinner. I remember those things, and
- 6:06Speaker 3: annual dinner for Netball WA. I'm like, I've got nothing
- 6:10Speaker 3: to wear. Oh my god, what am I going to do?
- 6:11Speaker 3: Went to the shops having a Barry Crocker looking looking nothing, nothing,
- 6:15Speaker 3: and then seriously, and this is how embarrassing it is.
- 6:18Speaker 3: It's a semi formal formal dinner. I went into Jacuba
- 6:22Speaker 3: I think that's how you pronounced it, and I saw
- 6:24Speaker 3: this pants suit set and I'm like, ah, that's so
- 6:28Speaker 3: out there, and no one would pick this to wear
- 6:31Speaker 3: to the dinner because you just simply wouldn't right. But
- 6:35Speaker 3: I reckon, Sue Gordion could get away with this last minute.
- 6:37Speaker 3: I can claim it's last minute. It's a bit glaring
- 6:40Speaker 3: and out there.
- 6:41Speaker 2: So you can pull that off. No one else would
- 6:43Speaker 2: do it.
- 6:43Speaker 3: I literally walked into the dinner and the first person
- 6:48Speaker 3: I saw, the first person I saw, was standing there
- 6:53Speaker 3: in the pants suit. And because I arrived slightly late,
- 6:56Speaker 3: everybody saw this moment and so you're like.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Oh my god, do you do?
- 7:00Speaker 3: So we went up, we had a hug, and it
- 7:03Speaker 3: was like really so it was awkward. I was uncomfortable.
- 7:06Speaker 3: But it gets better. Then we go into the dinner
- 7:08Speaker 3: and who am I sitting next to? At three hundred
- 7:11Speaker 3: and fifty people at the dinner, I'm sitting right next
- 7:14Speaker 3: to my bloody twin of the night, the two of us.
- 7:18Speaker 2: So we had no choice.
- 7:19Speaker 3: We just had to sit there and play it off
- 7:20Speaker 3: like it was the funniest thing since last bed.
- 7:22Speaker 2: But I want to tell you it gets even better.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Of the three hundred and fifty people at the dinner
- 7:27Speaker 3: and two of us sitting there, two of us also
- 7:29Speaker 3: had to get up and present on stage that night. No, no, seriously, seriously,
- 7:34Speaker 3: thank christ excuse me that I was the first one
- 7:37Speaker 3: that got up there so I could own the scene first,
- 7:39Speaker 3: the soup first, and then Christa, who happened to be
- 7:41Speaker 3: the name of the person wearing the other one.
- 7:43Speaker 2: She was up there second.
- 7:44Speaker 3: It's horrifying, so good on these kids that they're doing
- 7:47Speaker 3: this so you don't have to walk into a moment feeling.
- 7:50Speaker 3: But then the best way to handle it is to,
- 7:52Speaker 3: I guess, own it. I'm not sure I owned it
- 7:54Speaker 3: that well. That night I felt uncomfortable and I said
- 7:56Speaker 3: to Rose, let's go home.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I've had enough. I don't want to do Yeah of
- 8:00Speaker 2: that suit, Yeah, I was.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Called dinner was boring, you know those dinners like oh,
- 8:08Speaker 3: thank you, good on Your president speaks good on you,
- 8:11Speaker 3: thank you.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Two outfits from now on, if you're doing.
- 8:15Speaker 2: If you, if you haven't one in the car the
- 8:17Speaker 2: whole time.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Quick, I'll just turned into my tracksuit.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Hey, how good would that be if you could turn up?
- 8:26Speaker 3: If I could turn up to the Swiss thirtieth dinner,
- 8:28Speaker 3: which I'm seeing in a tracksuit and present, it would
- 8:31Speaker 3: be my dream, my dream, so good right?
- 8:35Speaker 2: Right?
- 8:35Speaker 1: Type of tracksuit?
- 8:37Speaker 3: Can you what parachute material that goes swish, Swiss swish
- 8:40Speaker 3: as she.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Walks in the in red and yellow to acknowledge the
- 8:43Speaker 1: Swifts to two colors because it is their thirtieth anniversary.
- 8:47Speaker 1: So I want to see this.
- 8:50Speaker 2: I want to see this red and yellow tracksuit, taking
- 8:52Speaker 2: notes red and yellow.
- 8:54Speaker 1: And we'll be there. We're going to talk about this later,
- 8:56Speaker 1: but I will be at that dinner because when we
- 8:59Speaker 1: found out you hosting and clearly listen as will be there.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I'm like, well, I need to host a table of
- 9:06Speaker 1: dribblers at this dinner. So we're just working with Netbulle
- 9:10Speaker 1: with the Swifts at the moment about how we're going
- 9:12Speaker 1: to do this. But we're going to have a short
- 9:14Speaker 1: sharp competition and ten well it won't be ten obviously,
- 9:18Speaker 1: it's a table for ten. But I've got a table.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I'm taking some dribblers with me. We'll have no jobs
- 9:22Speaker 1: to do except drink the wine and have the good
- 9:25Speaker 1: time together.
- 9:26Speaker 3: And heck with the MC and even even better, Oh that's.
- 9:31Speaker 2: So good, how old? Yes?
- 9:33Speaker 3: Well, you know, so we get to hang out, actually
- 9:36Speaker 3: all of us, this will be all of us in
- 9:38Speaker 3: the same place since the Grand Final.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't tell you lunch at this event, though,
- 9:44Speaker 1: so can can? Like, we need to take that off
- 9:46Speaker 1: the table, because apparently that's something that I need to do,
- 9:50Speaker 1: even if it's an entirely inappropriate environment for it.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Do you think we all should wear the same thing?
- 9:57Speaker 2: You know what?
- 9:58Speaker 1: Imagine? Imagine if I all the same outfit that Katherine
- 10:02Speaker 1: Cox was wearing, how much shitter I would look in
- 10:05Speaker 1: it than she does? So no, I'm going to take
- 10:07Speaker 1: that off the table.
- 10:08Speaker 3: But look, to be fair, we're all look shitter than Catherine.
- 10:11Speaker 3: And once you've accepted that, and then it could be
- 10:13Speaker 3: like Catherine looking amazing and then us three just looking
- 10:16Speaker 3: Would you do together?
- 10:17Speaker 2: Would you do that? Would I just? I mean I
- 10:23Speaker 2: don't because I don't care. I'm beyond caring.
- 10:25Speaker 3: That's and that's why I was so surprised about the
- 10:27Speaker 3: lengths that people go to to not look the same.
- 10:30Speaker 3: I think if you walk into somewhere and someone's wearing
- 10:32Speaker 3: the same thing, it's like cool, we are both have
- 10:35Speaker 3: awesome taste. So that four of us, sure, if you
- 10:38Speaker 3: can find the right thing. I think Katherine's going to
- 10:41Speaker 3: be hard to convince, but I reckon we can convince her.
- 10:43Speaker 3: I was sitting here, and if Coxy was on this
- 10:47Speaker 3: this now, she would be like, no way, She's.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Not here, though, is she She'll find this, She'll she'll
- 10:54Speaker 1: find this out when all of the Dribblers find out
- 10:57Speaker 1: when this episode goes to air on Wednesday.
- 10:59Speaker 3: So yeah, officially take a no dribble vote in the
- 11:02Speaker 3: absence of Cato.
- 11:11Speaker 1: If you look at our partnership agreement, that is actually
- 11:13Speaker 1: enough correct, I.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Mean the small pre so he's not in the partnership,
- 11:17Speaker 3: but you know there's still twos enough, two of three,
- 11:21Speaker 3: that's fine.
- 11:23Speaker 1: So there is the I was going to say when
- 11:25Speaker 1: Lizie were talking about this, this dress higher thing, I
- 11:28Speaker 1: love that. That is such a I'm not saying I
- 11:30Speaker 1: don't think our dresses need to be that fancy that
- 11:33Speaker 1: we go to address high place. But I love this
- 11:35Speaker 1: as a new yes that I've had in the I
- 11:37Speaker 1: don't know, maybe the last ten years, that you don't
- 11:39Speaker 1: have to go and buy a bloody ball gown for
- 11:42Speaker 1: an event that you're going to and then have it
- 11:43Speaker 1: hanging in your cupboard forever hire address for a night.
- 11:48Speaker 2: I like it. It's so good.
- 11:50Speaker 3: I'm just trying to find my sister's message to me
- 11:52Speaker 3: because I was just blown away.
- 11:54Speaker 2: So it's it's strand of bucks.
- 11:56Speaker 3: It gets delivered to her house here with a satchel
- 11:59Speaker 3: included for a return, dry cleaning, insurance and higher. How
- 12:03Speaker 3: long has this been going on for what we know
- 12:05Speaker 3: about it, Yeah, Lizzie might see my niece.
- 12:09Speaker 2: She's just turned eighteen.
- 12:10Speaker 3: She started her own little business of hiring out the
- 12:13Speaker 3: dresses that she's had four different formals, and so she's
- 12:17Speaker 3: got her own little online Instagram site and just hires
- 12:20Speaker 3: her own dresses, dry cleans, it delivers, et cetera, et cetera.
- 12:23Speaker 3: So great little side business just for kids that are
- 12:27Speaker 3: spending fortunes on these beautiful, beautiful dresses to go to
- 12:32Speaker 3: the various formals they go to when they're sixteen, seventeen,
- 12:35Speaker 3: and eighteen years of age.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Such a good idea.
- 12:37Speaker 1: You want it into five years later?
- 12:39Speaker 3: Great four three, So it's well, if it's us, it's
- 12:45Speaker 3: twenty minutes. And also saving the planet one dress at
- 12:48Speaker 3: a time, because it's not stuff's being recycled. I think
- 12:51Speaker 3: it's fabulous. Even if you do have to sort out
- 12:54Speaker 3: your dress in March for a November event.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I think that's something that's a little bit sad though
- 12:58Speaker 1: that's fallen out of fashion since my school formal in
- 13:01Speaker 1: nineteen eighty six. Is and a number of weddings that
- 13:04Speaker 1: I was a bridesmaid for in the following decade. Member
- 13:07Speaker 1: used to take a pair of shitty court shoes with
- 13:09Speaker 1: the fabric of the dress, and you'd go to a
- 13:12Speaker 1: shoemaker and they'd cover your lovely court shoe in the
- 13:16Speaker 1: fabric the raw silk, chan tongue or whatever it was,
- 13:18Speaker 1: so your shoes would exactly match your bride'smaid dress.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Good time. I don't remember that.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Maybe it's just a thing, but it happened quite a lot.
- 13:29Speaker 1: And then of course you go, I'm not going to
- 13:31Speaker 1: trash a good pair of shoes for this, So you
- 13:33Speaker 1: would go to a discount show. You'd buy the cheapest
- 13:36Speaker 1: shoes you could buy, which then of course would ruin
- 13:38Speaker 1: your night or ruin your feet for the next month,
- 13:40Speaker 1: because it's like, well, I'm going to get these covered.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I'll never wear them. I'll wear the worst shoes possible
- 13:46Speaker 1: and I won't be able to hobble around. Oh I'm sorry,
- 13:50Speaker 1: I thought that only happened in movies. Is this happening
- 13:52Speaker 1: in Brisbane? It's Brisbane. And this is the nineties too,
- 13:58Speaker 1: I'm talking about so not just the eighties, where we
- 14:00Speaker 1: know many horrors lie, but the nineties was also bad.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Wow, I liked Sue.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I think you might have just gestured to this, but
- 14:09Speaker 3: the course I remember, Yes, that's what I was thinking.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, I think that's died. I think it's gone
- 14:16Speaker 2: the parents, which is fire the moment. Yeah, the awkwardness.
- 14:21Speaker 1: A bunch of flowers for his formal date last year,
- 14:25Speaker 1: and I thought much better. So yeah, corsaches. It's it's
- 14:30Speaker 1: quite a strange looking thing too, Like here's my outfit, now,
- 14:34Speaker 1: let's put some baby's breath on it. Tradition, good tradition.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Well.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I would usually save this until No Dribble recommends at
- 14:44Speaker 1: the end of the episode, but I have just watched
- 14:46Speaker 1: Bridgeton season four, speaking of lovely long dresses and the life.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I thought it started slowly, but he's the best season
- 14:54Speaker 1: since season one.
- 14:55Speaker 3: I was having this debate with my makeup with our
- 14:57Speaker 3: makeup artist yesterday here in Perth before the game.
- 15:01Speaker 2: She said, Oh, I've just finished Bridgeton the season and
- 15:04Speaker 2: I'm like, how good was it? It was my favorite season?
- 15:06Speaker 3: I said to it it started a bit slow, but
- 15:08Speaker 3: oh my gosh, it was so good and she oh, no,
- 15:10Speaker 3: I hated it. It was the worst season. I was like, oh,
- 15:14Speaker 3: so anyhow, that was all we discussed.
- 15:16Speaker 2: For the one hour and hair and makeup. I loved
- 15:19Speaker 2: it interesting. I thought it was great.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I thought it was as I said, you know, the
- 15:23Speaker 1: first couple of episodes, I was say, oh, this is
- 15:24Speaker 1: a bit same same, I've watched all of the seasons
- 15:26Speaker 1: and I've really enjoyed them, but I thought, oh, maybe
- 15:29Speaker 1: this is maybe this has jumped the shark now. But
- 15:32Speaker 1: then there was some there was some twists in there
- 15:35Speaker 1: that I thought I didn't see that coming, and I
- 15:37Speaker 1: think that's added some real complexity to it.
- 15:39Speaker 3: And I just hope everyone's reached their pinnacle. Absolutely don't
- 15:44Speaker 3: watch watched.
- 15:46Speaker 2: It, Liz, Have you ever reached your pinnacle? No? I'm
- 15:49Speaker 2: still going no, but I haven't.
- 15:51Speaker 3: I was just seeing here, thinking could I catch up
- 15:54Speaker 3: on Bridgeton? How long would it take me to do it?
- 15:58Speaker 1: Eight episodes each and the episodes are about fifty minutes
- 16:02Speaker 1: do It's not for children, so we tried watching it
- 16:05Speaker 1: with my son the first season, and it's a bit
- 16:08Speaker 1: hot and heavy in places. And at some stages we
- 16:12Speaker 1: had to turn Tom and say, now, what do you
- 16:14Speaker 1: have any questions what the gentleman is doing to the
- 16:17Speaker 1: lady there?
- 16:19Speaker 2: And he just.
- 16:19Speaker 3: Got like, I missed Bridges and I miss Game of Thrones.
- 16:26Speaker 3: I really struggle to sit down and watch what sort
- 16:29Speaker 3: of long series television. I mean, I watched Ted Lasso
- 16:33Speaker 3: and now I've watched all her faults. I'm not completely
- 16:35Speaker 3: out of the loop, but.
- 16:38Speaker 2: I feel like.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Game of Thrones got away from me. There's just no
- 16:40Speaker 3: way that I could go back because I just can't Thrones.
- 16:43Speaker 1: But I don't think I think it's okay to just
- 16:46Speaker 1: go That's just something that passed me by, that it's gone.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Whereas Bridges and I feel like I could. I do
- 16:51Speaker 3: love a bit of you know, it's really you know
- 16:53Speaker 3: what it's Yeah, it is really good. Li's like whether
- 16:56Speaker 3: it's just the costume, the sets, the smartness of the writing,
- 17:01Speaker 3: Like the writing's really now. The music's amazing. Music's music's unreal.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Have you seen there's actually a clip on YouTube Instagram,
- 17:09Speaker 3: one of them, of the guy that actually does the music.
- 17:12Speaker 3: He's a violinist, and you can and it's a recording
- 17:15Speaker 3: of him actually playing some because they play what he
- 17:17Speaker 3: plays modern music on the violin, so it's like the
- 17:21Speaker 3: old school, you know, ballroom, but it's like a.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Modern song but has been played on the violin. You're
- 17:26Speaker 2: kind of sitting there and you're like, is that Taylor's swift?
- 17:30Speaker 2: Blah blah blah blah blah.
- 17:32Speaker 1: But yeah, it's a really interesting sort of mental exercise.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Isn't it taking on my recognizing something there? But it's
- 17:38Speaker 1: the music is fabulous. It's there we go no double
- 17:41Speaker 1: recommends kicking off earlier, Liz, can you manage I know
- 17:44Speaker 1: you can't manage long tracks of time watching TV? Can
- 17:47Speaker 1: you manage a broadcast that is about sixty minutes of
- 17:51Speaker 1: court time, perhaps with a few breaks in the middle
- 17:55Speaker 1: for some analysis while people have a drink of water
- 17:58Speaker 1: and tail down and listen to their coach. Could you
- 18:00Speaker 1: manage that? Oh?
- 18:01Speaker 2: I managed it.
- 18:02Speaker 3: I managed it twice on the weekend, so and I'm
- 18:05Speaker 3: got a little bit of catch up to do this week.
- 18:07Speaker 3: So yeah, I love it.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Superniples back, baby, can we talk about that?
- 18:10Speaker 1: So? Why don't we? Why don't we have a little
- 18:12Speaker 1: break and then we'll come.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Back and talk about netball?
- 18:52Speaker 1: Okay, Yes, So if you've been living under a rock.
- 18:56Speaker 1: The Superneple season did start on the weekend and it
- 18:59Speaker 1: was sand stational. Four fantastic games, some extraordinary performances. The
- 19:05Speaker 1: Kihi Invasion is here, absolutely and that was amazing entertaining
- 19:12Speaker 1: to watch. Where do we start? Where do we start?
- 19:15Speaker 1: Obviously we have to talk about tipping amid amidst all
- 19:18Speaker 1: of this too, because that's shown some interesting stuff.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Go straight to tipping. Yeah, can I say?
- 19:25Speaker 3: Given that I my tipping is just home teams, I
- 19:30Speaker 3: think I've done all right this weekend.
- 19:33Speaker 2: You have?
- 19:33Speaker 1: So I guess who's first out of our group, out
- 19:37Speaker 1: of our little home. So I have a host and
- 19:40Speaker 1: heroes ladder for us, and it's the three of us
- 19:42Speaker 1: and Catherine obviously, it's Darryl Milton, It's Keighley Devery, It's
- 19:47Speaker 1: Alexa Prino, who is your Eddie bestie. It's Lisa Bass
- 19:50Speaker 1: who won last year's tipping comp. And I'm trying to
- 19:53Speaker 1: get hold of Melrosa, who was our inaugural Golden Turkey,
- 19:57Speaker 1: to put her in, but she hasn't registered, so I've
- 19:58Speaker 1: just sent her anyway. So there's what's that there's eight
- 20:02Speaker 1: of us in this Catherine's coming first, yes, and did
- 20:09Speaker 1: she picked fever consistency the netty nome coming last?
- 20:13Speaker 3: So did you pick fevers when you're coming second to
- 20:18Speaker 3: that in the second list? I'm not, but I just
- 20:22Speaker 3: said to Catherine, go for fee.
- 20:24Speaker 1: She did not, so she got, she got. She got
- 20:27Speaker 1: the same score as you. But she must have put
- 20:29Speaker 1: hers in earlier because she's sitting at ninety six and
- 20:33Speaker 1: you're sitting at one hundred and thirty six on the
- 20:35Speaker 1: same points. And you both picked margin for the MAVs
- 20:39Speaker 1: Giants game as ten when it was actually nine. So
- 20:41Speaker 1: that just shows dribblers get your tips in early. It
- 20:44Speaker 1: makes a difference.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Carolyn, Is there a referee in this system? I couldn't
- 20:50Speaker 2: go any earlier because you only sent me the link late. Yeah,
- 20:54Speaker 2: that's on you.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Well yeah, sorry, you can't win a prize. So you
- 21:02Speaker 1: are welcome to lodge a complaint and there'll be a
- 21:05Speaker 1: Stuart's inquiry. And I tell you how that's going to
- 21:07Speaker 1: turn out. It's going to turn out with me. Yeah, sorry,
- 21:10Speaker 1: it was a bit.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Underwater last week.
- 21:12Speaker 3: No, I will hold my Stuart's complaint for lady there
- 21:15Speaker 3: when it gets really tight.
- 21:16Speaker 2: But yes, Liz, I didn't back Fever. I didn't go
- 21:21Speaker 2: for Fever. Well do you know what?
- 21:25Speaker 3: And again, of course I'm allowed to bet officially because
- 21:29Speaker 3: that's wagering and bedding, so I don't. But in this
- 21:32Speaker 3: competition it is about fun. But I do have inside
- 21:35Speaker 3: a knowledge, right, let's be blatantly honest. So you should
- 21:39Speaker 3: know better, so I should know better. But look, I
- 21:43Speaker 3: think if you watched the commentary yesterday in the Fever game,
- 21:45Speaker 3: I think we said it a thousand times, and not
- 21:47Speaker 3: because we were trying to sell it anymore, but it
- 21:50Speaker 3: was the reality of it is. Fever have had the
- 21:53Speaker 3: most horrific preseason through injury and a lot of illness.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Like we had two weeks of illness where we actually
- 22:00Speaker 3: went to play the Adelaide Thunderbirds and we didn't have
- 22:02Speaker 3: enough players to put on the court, so we had
- 22:04Speaker 3: to bring two men's players, and we had to get
- 22:07Speaker 3: approval from the Thunderbirds that in a preseason game would
- 22:09Speaker 3: they okay if we put two men on the court.
- 22:11Speaker 1: We've just we just haven't had enough.
- 22:13Speaker 3: We couldn't like without bringing up like to bring up
- 22:17Speaker 3: the next layer of athlete into the game would have
- 22:19Speaker 3: been dangerous to the athlete for them. Yeah, so we
- 22:23Speaker 3: had to like we didn't we couldn't cancel. So we
- 22:26Speaker 3: then like rang the thunderbirds and said, kays, here's our predicament.
- 22:29Speaker 3: We've got people, we can't get them off the toilet
- 22:32Speaker 3: and vomiting. This went on for two and a bit weeks,
- 22:34Speaker 3: two and a half weeks. People just every one of
- 22:37Speaker 3: us just dropped like flies, drop like fires, drop like fires.
- 22:40Speaker 3: And then managing all the injury and so there's been
- 22:44Speaker 3: no stability. It's been really tough to kind of build
- 22:47Speaker 3: any connections. And so I was like, I think we
- 22:50Speaker 3: can compete, but I felt Lightning. I really do think
- 22:55Speaker 3: Lightning can have a decent season. But the second I
- 22:57Speaker 3: saw that Gabby Sinclair was out, I actually thought we
- 22:59Speaker 3: might at our nose in front. But I chose not
- 23:01Speaker 3: to change my tipping. That's the god's honest truth.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Well, let me tell you, seventy nine point two percent
- 23:09Speaker 1: of our Dribbler tippers also tip Lightning, so it was
- 23:14Speaker 1: a and we have over seven hundred tippers, so that's
- 23:17Speaker 1: a fairly decent sample size there. But yes, seventy ninety
- 23:21Speaker 1: three ninety three point seven percent tip Vixens in that game. So,
- 23:26Speaker 1: but yeah, there was a fairly overwhelming number of people
- 23:31Speaker 1: thinking Lightning, We're going to win that game.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Gordie, what did you think of Ramelda?
- 23:34Speaker 3: Just an amazing athlete to go like fourth clubs, She's
- 23:38Speaker 3: just such a like a stabilizing influence for you guys.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Isn't she just put it there? You know what she's
- 23:42Speaker 3: going to do. Anyone else, the opposition knows what she's
- 23:45Speaker 3: going to do. It's just that she does it so
- 23:46Speaker 3: well that good luck stopping her.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I think.
- 23:48Speaker 3: I think the thing that happens in netball is and
- 23:52Speaker 3: rightly so in sport and as fans and at a distance,
- 23:56Speaker 3: is everyone can form opinions based only on the information
- 24:00Speaker 3: that you have. And I certainly had an opinion of Romelda,
- 24:04Speaker 3: which was I thought she was a very good athlete,
- 24:06Speaker 3: and I thought she's been incredible, and I had there
- 24:08Speaker 3: was nothing really negative. Yes, she misses a couple of
- 24:10Speaker 3: those shots under the ring, and that's I mean, her
- 24:13Speaker 3: technique isn't the best in the world, but that's the
- 24:16Speaker 3: mind more than the technique in those I mean, her
- 24:18Speaker 3: technique does go off, but it's the mind that goes
- 24:20Speaker 3: first before the technique, And so I was like, oh, yeah,
- 24:23Speaker 3: you know, Dan will be good with that and can
- 24:24Speaker 3: fix a few bits and pieces. But once she came
- 24:26Speaker 3: into the environment, list the one thing that you pick
- 24:31Speaker 3: up in small bits from a distance, but until you're
- 24:33Speaker 3: in the training environment, you see it. She is bloody smart.
- 24:37Speaker 3: She is a game smart games game sense beast.
- 24:41Speaker 2: She reads it really well.
- 24:43Speaker 3: She knows how to help everybody else around her, And
- 24:47Speaker 3: I think that's what's given her longevity a little one,
- 24:49Speaker 3: the fact that you know, she's got to hold the
- 24:51Speaker 3: body up and she just can probably last in the
- 24:53Speaker 3: game a little bit longer based on their movement patterns
- 24:56Speaker 3: and so on and so forth. But to come out
- 24:58Speaker 3: of retirement off the back of a season where she
- 25:01Speaker 3: managed her knee injury the entire year, we had to
- 25:04Speaker 3: completely deload her right down to zero and then completely
- 25:09Speaker 3: reload her, which was why she couldn't be released to
- 25:12Speaker 3: play for Jamaica in the International Series. And literally we
- 25:16Speaker 3: weren't even We weren't sure if we get sixty out
- 25:18Speaker 3: of her on the weekend, and she soldier through and
- 25:20Speaker 3: there's this moment the game you see her banging her legs,
- 25:23Speaker 3: banging her legs. I think she was trying to say
- 25:24Speaker 3: to them, just keep going there seven minutes.
- 25:26Speaker 2: To go, keep going. You can do it. So yeah,
- 25:29Speaker 2: she like, you know, I what an incredible story. And
- 25:32Speaker 2: you know, kath Cotts's record of National League games will
- 25:36Speaker 2: likely get beaten.
- 25:37Speaker 3: But you know, if you're ever going to hand a
- 25:39Speaker 3: baton over to someone, why wouldn't it be ramaldarekenjaw?
- 25:41Speaker 2: Its how credible?
- 25:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and look, I'm grateful that she's there because it
- 25:45Speaker 3: means that I'm still current.
- 25:46Speaker 2: I think while anyone you ever.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Played against this sim current time, it would be supporting
- 25:52Speaker 3: her inclusion in super level for a number of years yet.
- 25:55Speaker 3: But it's interesting, isn't it right? And I often have
- 25:57Speaker 3: this conversation with my daughter and with her mate, you know,
- 26:00Speaker 3: and kids that I coach, is that it's not always
- 26:03Speaker 3: the greatest athlete who is the greatest used to a team.
- 26:06Speaker 3: And I think if you come into a team and
- 26:08Speaker 3: you're smart, and you have commitment to you know, the
- 26:11Speaker 3: team morale, and you bring your whole self to your
- 26:15Speaker 3: team and you're helping everyone else by trying to think
- 26:18Speaker 3: things through and you're enthusiastic, that is exactly the sort
- 26:21Speaker 3: of athlete that you want. You don't want someone to
- 26:23Speaker 3: turn up going you know, I know everything.
- 26:26Speaker 2: I can't be changed.
- 26:28Speaker 3: You know, Like you're talking about a woman who's played
- 26:32Speaker 3: for well over a decade at this top level and
- 26:35Speaker 3: then talking about Dan the coach doing a bit with
- 26:38Speaker 3: her and working with her on a shooting technique. Clearly
- 26:40Speaker 3: she's amenable to that and not coming and thinking that
- 26:43Speaker 3: she knows everything. Like that's exactly the sort of athlete
- 26:46Speaker 3: that you want the world's worst athletes to coach lives,
- 26:49Speaker 3: doesn't matter what age. They are the ones that think
- 26:52Speaker 3: they know it all and they're not prepared to listen,
- 26:54Speaker 3: and then you know, they frustrate you as a coach,
- 26:56Speaker 3: and you can try only so many ways to try
- 26:59Speaker 3: and get through the head. And then the only coaching
- 27:02Speaker 3: that they truly listen to is the mistakes they make
- 27:05Speaker 3: on a netball court, right, and they're usually the mistakes
- 27:08Speaker 3: that the coach has been saying, if you are just this,
- 27:10Speaker 3: you eliminate that. So I love the fact that someone
- 27:13Speaker 3: like Rameldor and when you say, well over a decade,
- 27:15Speaker 3: she's just shuy. I have two decades like nineteen seasons
- 27:18Speaker 3: is just insane.
- 27:21Speaker 2: And so to be able to.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Come in and with an open mind and a willingness
- 27:26Speaker 3: to learn and then offload her wealth of knowledge to others.
- 27:31Speaker 3: I mean, what a great privilege for Fever and good
- 27:34Speaker 3: on her. I hope she has a great season, not
- 27:36Speaker 3: just because I'm a Fever centric person, but because one
- 27:39Speaker 3: incredible moment and I love the fact. Sorry that just
- 27:42Speaker 3: at the end of the game, Caitlyn Bassett was interviewing
- 27:45Speaker 3: her and made a comment to her and said, you know, like,
- 27:47Speaker 3: how incredible to be back and whatever, and she just goes,
- 27:50Speaker 3: I just love netball like she's there because she just
- 27:54Speaker 3: there's nothing more simple than nineteen years of playing. She
- 27:58Speaker 3: still loves it, like that's why she wants to be there,
- 28:01Speaker 3: and she thinks she can contribute, and I think there's
- 28:03Speaker 3: so much you can take from that.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Huge Can I ask a question, so and talk to
- 28:09Speaker 1: me as though I'm an idiot, because that's close to
- 28:12Speaker 1: the truth a lot of the time when you say so.
- 28:15Speaker 1: First of all, I'd like to point out that when
- 28:16Speaker 1: rammelgat Aiken George started playing netball, she had to take
- 28:19Speaker 1: her shoes down to get them covered in the same
- 28:21Speaker 1: fabric as her uniform. That's how I don't want when
- 28:25Speaker 1: you say, she's a really smart player. Can you give
- 28:29Speaker 1: an example of something that you noted there that you
- 28:34Speaker 1: go that is a really that's a point where I'm
- 28:37Speaker 1: seeing someone who has extraordinary experience and knows how to
- 28:40Speaker 1: apply it.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:41Speaker 3: So so really simply, And if you listen to the
- 28:44Speaker 3: commentary we highlighted this in the game yesterday, so Ake
- 28:47Speaker 3: and George six foot six. Most people think she's going
- 28:50Speaker 3: to sit and post up and that ball's got to
- 28:52Speaker 3: go over the top. But if you go and have
- 28:53Speaker 3: a little how many times she caught a ball to
- 28:55Speaker 3: the chest yesterday? That was purposeful? All right, So that's
- 28:59Speaker 3: her going, okay, well, how do I take a smart,
- 29:03Speaker 3: a very dynamic defense out of the equation. And then
- 29:08Speaker 3: when they started to realize that was a game, then
- 29:10Speaker 3: she said her up. Now I'll just use my other strength,
- 29:12Speaker 3: which is my backspace. Actually that is my strength, and
- 29:15Speaker 3: so she just had this ability to continue to change
- 29:18Speaker 3: things up. So that's number one that's smart. Not every
- 29:21Speaker 3: shooter in the league reads that and then applies it purposefully.
- 29:25Speaker 3: And then the second thing is and one thing that
- 29:27Speaker 3: this is something that you see very much in the
- 29:29Speaker 3: training environment. I saw it translate yesterday is her ability
- 29:33Speaker 3: to take in a.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Lot of information in front of it. So sometimes players
- 29:37Speaker 2: can be really singular in the way that they see
- 29:40Speaker 2: the game.
- 29:40Speaker 3: So I've got my direct opponent, what I see in
- 29:43Speaker 3: front of you is simply the ball and I'm going
- 29:46Speaker 3: for it right, and that may work, and other times
- 29:49Speaker 3: there'll be a whole bunch of other things that are
- 29:50Speaker 3: going to stop that from working. And what I think
- 29:53Speaker 3: Ramelda does really well and as a goal shooter, and
- 29:55Speaker 3: Liz will say this, as a goalkeeper, part of your
- 29:58Speaker 3: job back in that circle is to take in information.
- 30:00Speaker 3: I think she does that really well.
- 30:02Speaker 2: And then her decisions off the back of that information
- 30:07Speaker 2: are what informs me that she's actually quite a smart
- 30:09Speaker 2: Vestue player. Thank you pleasure.
- 30:13Speaker 1: And you didn't really talk to me like I was
- 30:15Speaker 1: an idiot.
- 30:15Speaker 2: No, I actually sounded like I was in my coach mode.
- 30:19Speaker 3: I've got this real voice, like when on talking Netbil
- 30:22Speaker 3: I going to coach mode. I can hear myself and
- 30:24Speaker 3: I'm like shut up, So like, calm it down, seriously. So, Kaasen,
- 30:30Speaker 3: is your coach voice mode different to your commentator voice
- 30:32Speaker 3: mode or are they the same thing?
- 30:34Speaker 1: Good?
- 30:34Speaker 2: No, they're a little different.
- 30:36Speaker 3: They used to be very I used to like like
- 30:38Speaker 3: any I was actually only thinking about this the other
- 30:40Speaker 3: day because Shanny Layton's now this is turning into the
- 30:43Speaker 3: Fever show.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Shanny Layton is in our environment now.
- 30:47Speaker 3: And for anyone that knows Sharny Lake, you either know
- 30:49Speaker 3: her through a visual or you know her because you've
- 30:51Speaker 3: heard it eight streets aweight, like seriously loud ass right.
- 30:54Speaker 3: And so she's coming to the environment and I'm watching
- 30:57Speaker 3: her and part of my role that Fever is to
- 30:59Speaker 3: help grow her as the coach as well. And I
- 31:02Speaker 3: love her passion and I love her energy. And there's
- 31:05Speaker 3: a lot of her now that reminds me of me young,
- 31:09Speaker 3: and that's like big loud, constant up. I was probably
- 31:13Speaker 3: a little bit more officious, you know, a bit more
- 31:15Speaker 3: of that aggressive coach, et cetera. Whereas I think now,
- 31:17Speaker 3: as I've got a bit older, I'm a little bit
- 31:20Speaker 3: more balanced. But when I do m the players know
- 31:23Speaker 3: when I speak up, like when I've got something to say,
- 31:26Speaker 3: they listen like I like to think they do. But
- 31:28Speaker 3: I'm passionate, like when something you would laugh lyves in
- 31:31Speaker 3: the training environment. My commentary voice comes out more in
- 31:35Speaker 3: the times of when I see something really good happening,
- 31:39Speaker 3: and I'll be like, yes, that's what I'm talking about.
- 31:44Speaker 2: You know, like whatever it might be.
- 31:45Speaker 3: Yeah, So there is there is the suit, there's the sue,
- 31:48Speaker 3: the coach and the s the commentator, and there there's
- 31:50Speaker 3: a bit of a hybrid of it at moments in train.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Well see the coach.
- 31:54Speaker 3: You guys are up against Thunderbirds next week around two.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Can we just talk a little bit about Elmer of
- 32:00Speaker 3: VanderBurg that I pronounce that the same crowd alm maray
- 32:03Speaker 3: elma ray el maray elmrey Vandenburg.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 32:07Speaker 3: I was watching her the other night thinking she's like
- 32:11Speaker 3: Irene van Dyke Mark too, but she's actually just a
- 32:13Speaker 3: little bit taller. Went and did my little research this morning.
- 32:16Speaker 3: She said she's got a centimeter on Irene, probably wears
- 32:18Speaker 3: a little bit less eyehlighter than Irene wore when she
- 32:20Speaker 3: sort of you know, first hit the hit the market.
- 32:23Speaker 3: But my god, what a superstar. She's like the debut
- 32:29Speaker 3: match sun Corps Super Netball, toughest league in the world,
- 32:33Speaker 3: break scoring records on a debut.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Amazing. So what do you do?
- 32:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I know, So seriously, he's the best way to
- 32:42Speaker 3: describe al Mo Ray and the way she's burst onto
- 32:44Speaker 3: the scene.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Put yourselves back.
- 32:45Speaker 3: A year ago and go to round one Grace, okay,
- 32:50Speaker 3: and you know how much hype there was around Grace,
- 32:53Speaker 3: every media, the media that the amount of stories on
- 32:58Speaker 3: social media. If you even looked at the packaging from
- 33:01Speaker 3: Fox Grace Wiki Hit our Shores now go and compare
- 33:04Speaker 3: it to el Moray, it was like, who's this South
- 33:06Speaker 3: African kid coming across from the UK on the what
- 33:08Speaker 3: she'll be like might be good? You know, YadA YadA?
- 33:11Speaker 3: What do you reckon?
- 33:12Speaker 2: All the highlights? Package is going to be next week?
- 33:14Speaker 2: Like she killed it? And when you say she's.
- 33:16Speaker 3: Like iv D, right, if you think about when IVD
- 33:21Speaker 3: both first broke onto the scene, el Moray is a
- 33:26Speaker 3: vastly more athletic version. Irene got a lot more athletic
- 33:30Speaker 3: because she had to because she were teaching her a lesson.
- 33:33Speaker 3: But el Moray is sort of that more athletic version already. Right,
- 33:37Speaker 3: So we said in commentary yesterday, it took eight rounds
- 33:42Speaker 3: last year for the opposition to figure out Grace.
- 33:45Speaker 2: How long will it take for them to figure out
- 33:48Speaker 2: El Moray?
- 33:50Speaker 3: And it's not just elm moraps the bloody Thunderbirds are
- 33:53Speaker 3: good in front of her.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Georgia, all of the Thunderbirds who we already knew too.
- 34:00Speaker 1: It was just I was there, which is a tough,
- 34:04Speaker 1: tough hour, but one thing, and let's come back to
- 34:08Speaker 1: El Mara in a second.
- 34:09Speaker 2: But I was.
- 34:09Speaker 1: I had a friend there from who hasn't been watching
- 34:12Speaker 1: a lot of supernet ball in a few years. And
- 34:14Speaker 1: I pointed out Maddie Prowd, and I pointed out Shimira,
- 34:17Speaker 1: and I said, both of those women have had a
- 34:19Speaker 1: baby less than twelve months ago, and they were both outstanding,
- 34:25Speaker 1: and it was just that was really really exciting to watch.
- 34:28Speaker 2: And did you see in the interview?
- 34:31Speaker 1: Yes, and she said, well, I didn't see the interview
- 34:34Speaker 1: because I was up in the It was god.
- 34:36Speaker 3: I rolled on the four laughing because I was, of
- 34:39Speaker 3: course beautiful. Emily Beatan was interviewing and she's only just
- 34:42Speaker 3: had her bub four weeks ago, I think all five
- 34:45Speaker 3: weeks ago. So seriously, yeah, I know she shouldn't.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Look that goods It was. It's embarrassing. I had my
- 34:53Speaker 2: last baby nine years ago and I haven't quite recovered.
- 34:55Speaker 2: So Emily can just quit.
- 34:57Speaker 3: It, I know, I look pregnant on screen compared to this, right,
- 35:00Speaker 3: so honestly, but yeah, And they said something to Shamiir like, oh,
- 35:04Speaker 3: you know, how are you feeling to you know, to
- 35:06Speaker 3: be back, and I look up. This is a word
- 35:08Speaker 3: for word, but she kind of said, oh look, I'm
- 35:10Speaker 3: just so grateful and to come back looking like.
- 35:12Speaker 2: This, just like she owned how good she looked like.
- 35:18Speaker 3: And it made you look at her and then you
- 35:20Speaker 3: were like, oh my god, there's nothing She's popped a
- 35:23Speaker 3: baby out and there is nothing of her. She'll bo
- 35:28Speaker 3: That's the second one that gets Yeah, yeah, that's what
- 35:30Speaker 3: I kept telling myself.
- 35:36Speaker 1: That gets el Maray fifty nine goals out of Thunderbird
- 35:40Speaker 1: seventy four, which was a record for them, Like it
- 35:42Speaker 1: was just it was incredible. And on the flip side
- 35:46Speaker 1: of that, and I want someone to make me feel better,
- 35:49Speaker 1: Helen howsby fifty what happened by this weak?
- 35:56Speaker 3: Please Swiss will bound don't ask me because they don't
- 36:00Speaker 3: ask me to analyze a goal attack. I watched that
- 36:03Speaker 3: game with a glass of reds, so even worse. But no,
- 36:05Speaker 3: I'll let Susan do it, Okay. My thoughts on the
- 36:09Speaker 3: Swifts at the moment, so I'm going to go, let's
- 36:12Speaker 3: move from Helen. It's just defensively. They they had the
- 36:16Speaker 3: worst stats in the league defensively last year, so they're
- 36:18Speaker 3: not winning a lot of ball. That was hidden a
- 36:21Speaker 3: little bit by the fact that they were pretty powerful upfront. Usually,
- 36:25Speaker 3: if you win games, netball, or you win premierships, you've
- 36:28Speaker 3: got to have a reasonable balance, ideally a bit of
- 36:31Speaker 3: a dominance at one end, but a reasonable balance at
- 36:33Speaker 3: the other.
- 36:34Speaker 2: So the Swiss are out of balance.
- 36:35Speaker 3: At the moment, and I just thought defensively, they looked
- 36:38Speaker 3: off on the weekend.
- 36:39Speaker 2: They looked like they couldn't solve problems in the moment.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Their heads were looking to the bench a lot, So
- 36:44Speaker 3: I think, you know, there's some work to do there defensively,
- 36:46Speaker 3: But to be blatant, honestly, they have a look at it.
- 36:48Speaker 3: They've got his defenders. They'll solve that. Don't stress, you know,
- 36:50Speaker 3: they'll they'll find their way. And then I just think
- 36:53Speaker 3: an attacker just got it. Like everyone, everyone's got to
- 36:55Speaker 3: find combinations. I know Helen was off, but Helen can't
- 36:59Speaker 3: solve the problem. She needs a dynamic wing attack and
- 37:02Speaker 3: she needs the center, and you've only got Maddie just
- 37:04Speaker 3: coming back building court time. Grace Whider thought what she
- 37:08Speaker 3: did was pretty good, but she's kind of new face
- 37:10Speaker 3: to the game. And then I just thought weiky. I mean,
- 37:13Speaker 3: she probably could have lit up a little bit more,
- 37:15Speaker 3: and I don't think she really did. And that's you know,
- 37:16Speaker 3: I've always said the second year of playing any elite
- 37:20Speaker 3: competition is bloody tough because your B plan, C plan,
- 37:24Speaker 3: and D plan A pretty much we got to become
- 37:25Speaker 3: your A plane because everyone solved your A plane.
- 37:27Speaker 2: So yeah, so.
- 37:29Speaker 3: Anyhow, caron round one is always like this, and then
- 37:34Speaker 3: I guess it's just even more unpredictable because of the
- 37:37Speaker 3: number of changes and combination adjustments in the off season
- 37:41Speaker 3: and the limited time. We are four weeks earlier than
- 37:45Speaker 3: we historically have been, and I think some teams will
- 37:49Speaker 3: be feeling that more than others. And there's also there's
- 37:53Speaker 3: also every season you go into it, and the older
- 37:55Speaker 3: the team is, the less close to one hundred percent
- 37:59Speaker 3: you want to so you sort of want to come
- 38:02Speaker 3: in building rather than if you've got a young team,
- 38:05Speaker 3: you want to come in like hard at the start
- 38:08Speaker 3: because you know that the older teams will probably catch
- 38:10Speaker 3: you and their experience will get you. So I suspect
- 38:14Speaker 3: the Swifts are sort of absolutely won't be panicking now,
- 38:16Speaker 3: but they're going to get tested next week. Right, they're
- 38:18Speaker 3: up against the MAVs, and I thought the MAVs had
- 38:20Speaker 3: a good, solid win over the Giants. I thought, you know,
- 38:23Speaker 3: they're a team that's trying to get their combinations going.
- 38:26Speaker 3: But Jamie Lee Price was just outstanding. So they've got
- 38:29Speaker 3: really outstanding players. And I don't think we saw the
- 38:31Speaker 3: best of Shimoda Jock on the weekend, only scored twenty
- 38:34Speaker 3: six goals, but.
- 38:35Speaker 2: I suspect we'll see a bit more of her.
- 38:37Speaker 3: And the MAVs are also a team that are going
- 38:39Speaker 3: to get more and more dangerous. And I think I
- 38:41Speaker 3: said last week in our podcast that I'm going to
- 38:43Speaker 3: regret not putting them in the top four.
- 38:44Speaker 2: So this is another test for the Swifts in round two.
- 38:48Speaker 1: And that is so what they're trying to do, because
- 38:50Speaker 1: it's a doublehead up this weekend in Sydney, like great
- 38:53Speaker 1: opportunity to see half the competition in one afternoon, one
- 38:58Speaker 1: pay for parking once get to see so trying to
- 39:02Speaker 1: break the record for the most attended game in Sun
- 39:04Speaker 1: Corps supernet Ball history and for those of you who
- 39:08Speaker 1: care about such things, the Sydney Melbourne rivalry. The record
- 39:11Speaker 1: is currently held by Melbourne from the Grand Final last year,
- 39:14Speaker 1: So get out there support these I really liked what
- 39:18Speaker 1: I saw from the Giants last week on the weekend.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I expected it to be I was worried for them
- 39:24Speaker 1: going in, but I thought there was some stuff there.
- 39:26Speaker 1: I thought, Jane Watson, Look Jane Watts.
- 39:30Speaker 3: She's bloody spider arms going at one hundred miles. Absolutely,
- 39:33Speaker 3: I thought.
- 39:36Speaker 1: And O'Brien did a good job. I'm interested to see
- 39:38Speaker 1: Amy Slager move into this center position, although all wing
- 39:43Speaker 1: defenses know that is a demotion for her, and I
- 39:45Speaker 1: think that's sad, but you know, but she grave.
- 39:49Speaker 2: I want her back at wing defense.
- 39:51Speaker 3: I think off the year that she's had, I'd love
- 39:53Speaker 3: to see her consolidate another year where she's like she
- 39:56Speaker 3: was number three in the lead for intercepts like last year.
- 40:00Speaker 3: It's a league and press as a wing defense it's
- 40:02Speaker 3: unheard of and so like that's but don't forget. They've
- 40:06Speaker 3: got Jodi m Ward to come back, so they've got
- 40:08Speaker 3: to They've got to kind of think through all of
- 40:09Speaker 3: this and then the other one for me. And again,
- 40:13Speaker 3: because we're not inside the inner sanctum, we don't know
- 40:15Speaker 3: these things. But I potentially would liked to have seen
- 40:19Speaker 3: Lucy Austin start the game so that there was a
- 40:21Speaker 3: little bit of there was a different It would have
- 40:25Speaker 3: posed a different defensive mindset for the Mavericks to think about.
- 40:28Speaker 3: Matisse leather Barrow got the start, so be it, but
- 40:32Speaker 3: she tried to play the game like a six foot
- 40:34Speaker 3: six goal shooter.
- 40:36Speaker 2: She ain't. So I don't know.
- 40:39Speaker 3: I think they'll work through that. And Neras Stewart said that,
- 40:42Speaker 3: you know, she knows they're going to have to build
- 40:43Speaker 3: connections over time. But do you know the comment of
- 40:45Speaker 3: the weekend this was for me. So Whitney as soon
- 40:49Speaker 3: as the captain of the Giants comes in pregame, right
- 40:53Speaker 3: off the warm up, runs in over to Biancha and
- 40:56Speaker 3: Caitlin Thwaites and they're like, oh, you know, you're excited
- 40:59Speaker 3: to be here, and she's like, oh god, it's been
- 41:02Speaker 3: the longest preseason ever.
- 41:04Speaker 2: I'm like, longest, this is a short preces This is
- 41:08Speaker 2: a short preseason.
- 41:09Speaker 3: I'm not sure how they used to do it over
- 41:11Speaker 3: in New Zealand, I think it was a little tired
- 41:12Speaker 3: of it.
- 41:13Speaker 2: I thought, you, poor bugger.
- 41:14Speaker 3: So yeah, the kiwe's will know about it, won't they
- 41:16Speaker 3: because it is a very different system set up here.
- 41:18Speaker 3: So yeah, well yeah, and the team that has the
- 41:22Speaker 3: most kiwis is the Fibers, right, And I thought, even
- 41:25Speaker 3: though they lost against Vixens, I actually thought they did
- 41:27Speaker 3: a reasonable job.
- 41:28Speaker 2: I think we're going to see them build.
- 41:29Speaker 3: It over there come in the season, and Fixings don't
- 41:32Speaker 3: look like they've missed a bet Die honey, which is.
- 41:35Speaker 2: A worry for everyone else, aren't they.
- 41:37Speaker 1: It's just you know, it's okay, we know what we're
- 41:41Speaker 1: doing here.
- 41:41Speaker 2: We got it.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Well, Die said that too. I feel like I'm just
- 41:45Speaker 3: doing your recap of all commentary. But I made that
- 41:47Speaker 3: comment and said, what do you think I'm supposed to do?
- 41:51Speaker 3: I've got look at the team I've got there, so
- 41:53Speaker 3: there's so experienced, she said. My job will just be
- 41:55Speaker 3: to pick the moments where I think I can I
- 41:57Speaker 3: need to manage them or have impact that I've got.
- 42:00Speaker 3: I've got a super experience group, and their job is
- 42:03Speaker 3: for me to trust them to go out and do
- 42:05Speaker 3: what I.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Know that they're capable of. Doing good coaching year.
- 42:10Speaker 3: I was going to say that shows such a maturity
- 42:12Speaker 3: of coaching, doesn't it, Because I imagine the temptation is
- 42:14Speaker 3: when you get into a role like that.
- 42:16Speaker 2: You become the head coach.
- 42:17Speaker 3: Right, I'm going to put my mark on at this
- 42:19Speaker 3: is how I'm going to coach. But she sat with Simone,
- 42:22Speaker 3: so she knows what Simone's systems were about and how
- 42:25Speaker 3: she went about it, and it just shows a coach.
- 42:27Speaker 3: Even that's her first year, she's really comfortable in her
- 42:30Speaker 3: own coaching skin because she knows, she knows what her
- 42:34Speaker 3: job is. Her job is not to reinvent the Vixen's wheel.
- 42:36Speaker 3: It is to inject herself at the right moment with
- 42:39Speaker 3: the right decision. That's impressive, very good.
- 42:44Speaker 1: So exciting. We're round one now, I'm going to have
- 42:47Speaker 1: to do a little bit of a recap and where
- 42:48Speaker 1: we're at from a tipping perspective, A weekly winner is
- 42:51Speaker 1: the crystal baller's perfect round, got the bonus point for
- 42:54Speaker 1: the round and bonus point for getting the margin correct. Now,
- 42:59Speaker 1: the crystal ball is not alone on six points. There
- 43:02Speaker 1: are two others there, but again crystal Waller's got it
- 43:04Speaker 1: in first, so Errol Oh Errol, I would do anything
- 43:09Speaker 1: just to be and CB three. They're all sitting on
- 43:12Speaker 1: six points, but obviously the one that we're most interested in,
- 43:17Speaker 1: or I am sitting in six hundred and thirty third place,
- 43:20Speaker 1: is who is sitting at the very bottom of the ladder.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Now you will remember we have a prize called the
- 43:25Speaker 1: Golden Turkey. This is a very prestigious award where you
- 43:28Speaker 1: get a trophy. You can only win the Golden Turkey
- 43:33Speaker 1: if you tip every week and you come stone motherless last.
- 43:39Speaker 1: So some people will still be joining the comp at
- 43:41Speaker 1: this stage. You can join, still join and you'll get
- 43:44Speaker 1: like an average or something, so you'll be ahead of
- 43:46Speaker 1: me already if you join late and have missed the
- 43:49Speaker 1: first round. If you join late, the only thing you
- 43:51Speaker 1: are ineligible to win is the Golden Turkey though, because
- 43:53Speaker 1: you won't have been able to tip every single round.
- 43:56Speaker 1: But we do have very good friend of the podcast,
- 43:58Speaker 1: Nikki knway Buckley sitting on goose egg and he has
- 44:03Speaker 1: had a perfect round just the other way, so she
- 44:09Speaker 1: is currently in pole position to win the Golden Turkey.
- 44:11Speaker 1: It is a long way between now and the end
- 44:14Speaker 1: of round.
- 44:14Speaker 3: A lot of mistakes to be made between now and then.
- 44:17Speaker 3: Isn't there a lot of mistakes?
- 44:18Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of mistakes can be made. But Nikki,
- 44:21Speaker 1: we're going to keep a close eye on where you
- 44:24Speaker 1: are sitting. I'm still hoping to get Melrosa back into
- 44:26Speaker 1: the competition. She is the inaugural Golden Turkey. Obviously she
- 44:29Speaker 1: will want to defend that position harshly and just just
- 44:33Speaker 1: set everyone's mind at ease. No matter how gifted I
- 44:35Speaker 1: am at tipping poorly, I cannot win the Golden Turkey.
- 44:40Speaker 1: It is I am ineligible to win that. But yeah,
- 44:43Speaker 1: get on board if you're not already tipping, because we've
- 44:46Speaker 1: got so many more weeks of excitement together. Hey, well
- 45:00Speaker 1: that was a great Netbull chat and I'm looking forward
- 45:02Speaker 1: to many more of those over the next many weeks.
- 45:06Speaker 1: But a segment so that we have introduced this year
- 45:10Speaker 1: largely in the response to the fact that as perimenopausal
- 45:14Speaker 1: and postmenopausal women, we have a lot of things that
- 45:16Speaker 1: annoy us that we would like to talk about. So
- 45:19Speaker 1: we've set up a segment called things that make you
- 45:22Speaker 1: go hmm. Now there is an option for talking about
- 45:36Speaker 1: things that didn't annoy you but just interested you. But
- 45:38Speaker 1: this is also an opportunity to get something off your chest.
- 45:41Speaker 1: So I'll just kick off with a quick one that
- 45:43Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure you're going to agree with me on.
- 45:45Speaker 1: I caught a flight back from Adelaide this morning. It
- 45:47Speaker 1: was a six am flight, which meant I was up
- 45:49Speaker 1: motherless early. Sitting on the plane, some guy starts watching
- 45:53Speaker 1: a video without headphones that things that make you go.
- 46:00Speaker 2: So do you know?
- 46:01Speaker 3: This is like I feel like, because we catch flights
- 46:03Speaker 3: a bit, there's always going to be a flight story.
- 46:06Speaker 3: But I have noticed that a lot with kids, and
- 46:09Speaker 3: you know that there's a kid on the flight. When
- 46:10Speaker 3: you hear mom, do do do do?
- 46:14Speaker 2: Dad? Do? Do? We like she doesn't know? Bingo do
- 46:18Speaker 2: do do? Bluey? Right, you hear it? And ye did
- 46:22Speaker 2: you like?
- 46:23Speaker 3: If you're traveling with a kid, surely headphones are the
- 46:26Speaker 3: first things you packed, before food, before close, before napping,
- 46:31Speaker 3: anything else packed The headphones going to the first Yeah.
- 46:36Speaker 2: My god.
- 46:37Speaker 3: It happens on almost every flight that I'm on. So
- 46:42Speaker 3: but then when a grain person do it, that's just
- 46:44Speaker 3: that's just not on.
- 46:45Speaker 2: Sorry, it's bloody ignorance.
- 46:46Speaker 1: And I actually think that they are making laws against
- 46:50Speaker 1: this in the United states that you can be removed
- 46:52Speaker 1: from the flight for watching a video without headphones. And
- 46:57Speaker 1: if that's not a law, I would like it to be.
- 47:00Speaker 2: I'm really sure that we should trust any laws that
- 47:02Speaker 2: the United States at the moment. But to be honest,
- 47:06Speaker 2: that's very true. That's actually yeah, go on. I was
- 47:09Speaker 2: gonna say one thing about a law. It's one thing
- 47:11Speaker 2: to have a law. You got to enforce it, like, yes.
- 47:13Speaker 3: That's the last thing you want. Just people be decent. Sorry, Gordy, No,
- 47:17Speaker 3: I was going to say. One thing that's making me
- 47:18Speaker 3: go hm at the moment is all the ai on Iran.
- 47:20Speaker 3: It's doing my head in. I can't keep up with
- 47:22Speaker 3: what's true or it's not. But we'll move on from
- 47:25Speaker 3: that because it's a terrible subject. The merging traffic for me, honestly,
- 47:30Speaker 3: yesterday on the way to rac Arena, Western Australian's inability
- 47:35Speaker 3: to merge onto a freeway from the day I arrived
- 47:39Speaker 3: to you some three years ago, thirty something years ago.
- 47:43Speaker 3: Merging Victorians can merge. I'm pretty sure they can merge
- 47:46Speaker 3: okay in Sydney, yes, no, no, yeah, Queensland do just can't
- 47:50Speaker 3: merge okay, Well, Queensland and Western Australians sort yourselves out merging.
- 47:55Speaker 3: Maybe there's like a correlation between your ability to merge
- 47:58Speaker 3: and whether you have daylight savings.
- 48:01Speaker 1: I actually think the bigger the city, this is controversial,
- 48:06Speaker 1: the bigger the city, the better the drivers. And I
- 48:08Speaker 1: think it's because you have to share the road with
- 48:10Speaker 1: so many people you rely on courtesy like Canberra. Oh guys,
- 48:18Speaker 1: come on, you're not you're not driving very well.
- 48:23Speaker 3: Yeah, But then having having spent some time in, for example, Delhi,
- 48:29Speaker 3: which is bigger, there's like a tipping point and want
- 48:31Speaker 3: to get like when you're driving Delhi.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Just yeah, there's lines anywhere outside of Australia. So yes,
- 48:40Speaker 1: you're immediately with one exception, you've made it clear why
- 48:45Speaker 1: I asked you to speak to me like I'm an idiot,
- 48:47Speaker 1: because that was. But I tell you, in New Zealand,
- 48:52Speaker 1: there are signs that say merge like a zip.
- 48:56Speaker 2: It's like a zip.
- 48:56Speaker 1: But it's perfect right because we all know what that is,
- 49:00Speaker 1: the teeth one at a time one and I think
- 49:02Speaker 1: we should get the signs merged like a zip. And
- 49:05Speaker 1: you know, given that every netballer in New Zealand is
- 49:08Speaker 1: now living here, let's get the next ones who come
- 49:11Speaker 1: over bring the signs with them.
- 49:13Speaker 3: Here's a question, though, if just out of curiosity, irrespective
- 49:17Speaker 3: of what the rules are, if you're merging onto the freeway,
- 49:20Speaker 3: do you want to merge at the speed of the.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Traffic if you can? That's Isn't that your point? You're
- 49:26Speaker 1: trying to.
- 49:27Speaker 3: Well come over to wa and have a conversation with
- 49:30Speaker 3: every idiot that doesn't understand that.
- 49:33Speaker 1: No, seriously, when everyone's flying in and flying out, they've forgotten.
- 49:37Speaker 2: How to drive.
- 49:37Speaker 3: If it's one hundred on the freeway, but you're trying
- 49:40Speaker 3: to merge at seventy, you are creating.
- 49:43Speaker 2: An accident, right, yes, so do you wear myself it's
- 49:46Speaker 2: one hundred? Am I missing? Am I missing a point?
- 49:48Speaker 2: Because Liz is honestly looking at.
- 49:50Speaker 3: Me like I agree, Like that was the first thing
- 49:53Speaker 3: that my dad Tom were driving.
- 49:55Speaker 2: You have to merge at the same space.
- 49:57Speaker 3: Yeah, the traffic, that's I just don't understand how people
- 50:00Speaker 3: we don't understand that.
- 50:01Speaker 2: But AnyWho not here, it does make you go.
- 50:03Speaker 1: Home trying to merge, get in the right lane, clear
- 50:05Speaker 1: the left wing them so that they've got a chance
- 50:07Speaker 1: to speed their car.
- 50:09Speaker 3: Okay, So my takeouts for today merged like a zup
- 50:12Speaker 3: and pack headphones for your children and your man babies
- 50:17Speaker 3: before before you pack anything else.
- 50:20Speaker 1: Yes, for flights excellently, I think excellently. I didn't take
- 50:25Speaker 1: out something quite controversial to I need to do some
- 50:28Speaker 1: more research on this. But I'm doing ABC Radio this
- 50:31Speaker 1: afternoon to talk about the start of the Netle season
- 50:34Speaker 1: on James O Lachlan Show, and I'm talking about the
- 50:35Speaker 1: Kiwi invasion and you know how we go, Well, we'll
- 50:39Speaker 1: have Russell Crowe the Pavlov's ours. Kiwi thinks Pavlov's theirs.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Kiwis think that the flat white is their's. And also
- 50:46Speaker 1: a reminder to everyone, I am a New Zealand citizen.
- 50:49Speaker 1: I carry two passports. So but apparently there is contention
- 50:53Speaker 1: over whether the Lamington was invented in New Zealand and
- 50:57Speaker 1: was called a Wellington.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Back and how it I don't get Lamington. I don't
- 51:03Speaker 2: love it. They can have it.
- 51:05Speaker 1: That's very interesting.
- 51:06Speaker 2: I just I always thought it was in New Zealand.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Why do I? Yeah, Lamington, Pavlova, they can have all
- 51:13Speaker 2: of that. I don't need it.
- 51:14Speaker 1: Mel Gibson, this is a this is a dead way
- 51:16Speaker 1: to end an entire episode though we can't. We can't
- 51:20Speaker 1: have me trying to stir up some controversy and you
- 51:22Speaker 1: two going, oh, yeah, whatever.
- 51:24Speaker 2: We don't need it, No, we don't need it.
- 51:25Speaker 3: I mean I saw I saw a credit House in
- 51:27Speaker 3: concert recently at Byron and I will I will take them.
- 51:32Speaker 3: I think they definitely belong to us. But the Lamington
- 51:37Speaker 3: and the Pavlova two of the worst desserts or sweets ever, So.
- 51:41Speaker 2: No, they can have them. Farlight will take I'm going
- 51:43Speaker 2: to have to. I'm happy to write a list of
- 51:45Speaker 2: what we want.
- 51:46Speaker 1: I don't think collapse that useful anymore, though true, probably
- 51:51Speaker 1: faster now, yeah, that's true.
- 51:54Speaker 2: I don't know. We might need to keep Grace Newki
- 51:56Speaker 2: at some.
- 51:57Speaker 3: Point, but yeah, she'll probably yeah, like, she'll probably want
- 51:59Speaker 3: to play for New Zealand anyway, look at you like
- 52:02Speaker 3: going on to the ABC local radio talking.
- 52:04Speaker 1: Again, and I'm going to give a little bit of
- 52:10Speaker 1: a boost to the netball fans of New South Wales
- 52:13Speaker 1: that I went to the very first day of the
- 52:15Speaker 1: Ashes in Perth last year and walking out there were
- 52:19Speaker 1: a lot of English fans who were a bit cocker
- 52:21Speaker 1: hoop and thinking we're looking good here. So you know
- 52:25Speaker 1: it's a long season. Netball fans don't.
- 52:28Speaker 2: It's a long season. Hey, why are you there? So?
- 52:30Speaker 3: I was up at the pharmacy. There was a big
- 52:35Speaker 3: pharmacy conference on the Gold Coast. I was with the
- 52:37Speaker 3: Pharmacy Guild, who are supporting the back of the bid.
- 52:39Speaker 3: So while you're on James at Blackland's show, can you
- 52:42Speaker 3: please get him to, you know, talk about back the
- 52:45Speaker 3: bid and how we need more people to sign.
- 52:49Speaker 2: There's a little Q on.
- 52:50Speaker 1: My notes here, right, yeah, okay, good work here anything.
- 52:56Speaker 1: One of the questions he's asked me to prepare is
- 52:58Speaker 1: why should people care about ball and why do you
- 53:00Speaker 1: like it so much? And it's like, well, James I.
- 53:04Speaker 3: Laughlin was a friend of mine until just now, so.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Just trying to be he's trying to be a host.
- 53:11Speaker 1: And he said, you know, assume that who that the
- 53:13Speaker 1: listeners know nothing about netball? So quick one.
- 53:18Speaker 2: You were over in Perth speaking at a breakfast. I was.
- 53:22Speaker 3: I spoke at an international Women's Day breakfast for the
- 53:25Speaker 3: Department of Education.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Oh my god. They awarded the like an.
- 53:30Speaker 3: Award for like the Educator of the Year. I was
- 53:34Speaker 3: embarrassed that I was there as a keynote speaker because
- 53:36Speaker 3: the women who were the finalists were amazing and the
- 53:40Speaker 3: woman who was awarded and you have to forgive me,
- 53:44Speaker 3: I can't remember the actual name of the award, but
- 53:46Speaker 3: it was for like the best person in the education system.
- 53:50Speaker 3: She is deaf and teachers at is it like an
- 53:55Speaker 3: education assistant at a at a school that integrates deaf students,
- 54:00Speaker 3: and she was so inspirational, Like I just, I just
- 54:04Speaker 3: And there was like an educational assistant who like does
- 54:08Speaker 3: all this great science stuff and a woman who was
- 54:11Speaker 3: from Broom and making sure that First Nations kids learnt
- 54:15Speaker 3: things in their own in First Nations language.
- 54:19Speaker 2: Oh. I was just I was just saying there.
- 54:21Speaker 3: I was like these people who you know, as Australians,
- 54:24Speaker 3: we always you know, we love our sports people and
- 54:26Speaker 3: we talk about heroes. I just think these women are
- 54:28Speaker 3: the heroes. It was amazing, so good thank you for
- 54:31Speaker 3: coming to.
- 54:32Speaker 2: My Ted talk.
- 54:32Speaker 3: Yes good, no, well no, no, that was good. Just
- 54:34Speaker 3: shows you the difference between you and I. You had
- 54:36Speaker 3: people turn up.
- 54:37Speaker 2: I was supposed to speak at an event that got
- 54:38Speaker 2: canceled because it wasn't enough people that wanted to go.
- 54:43Speaker 3: I hope they came to the one that I went
- 54:44Speaker 3: to seven hundred and fifty people.
- 54:46Speaker 2: It was good.
- 54:47Speaker 3: I had to.
- 54:47Speaker 1: I was asked to do a stand up spot at
- 54:50Speaker 1: an International Women's Day breakfast a few years ago. It
- 54:53Speaker 1: was a Saturday morning thing, so it was a couple
- 54:55Speaker 1: of hours long. But you know, Saturday morning, Carolyn, can
- 54:59Speaker 1: you do twenty minut and yep, great, and can you
- 55:02Speaker 1: do it without swearing? It's like that's a bit harder,
- 55:04Speaker 1: but yes, absolutely, and all of these topics that were
- 55:06Speaker 1: out and so okay, we're starting to get really outside
- 55:09Speaker 1: of my area of expertise here, but I will do
- 55:11Speaker 1: my best. And when I arrived, they told me I
- 55:14Speaker 1: would be on after the keynote speaker. This woman had
- 55:18Speaker 1: escaped from North Korea. Her story had the whole audience
- 55:22Speaker 1: in tears. She was being tortured. While she was captured
- 55:26Speaker 1: and being tortured, she had these stories about people she
- 55:29Speaker 1: was working with who were being hauled out of a
- 55:31Speaker 1: marketplace and shot in front. And then and now we
- 55:36Speaker 1: have Carolyn Swindell, who's going to tell you some jokes.
- 55:39Speaker 2: What was your opening? What was your opening?
- 55:42Speaker 1: Well, because I was sitting there the whole way through
- 55:44Speaker 1: transfixed by her speech and also thinking.
- 55:47Speaker 2: What the fuck am I going to do?
- 55:49Speaker 1: But so I opened with an acknowledgment of that, you know,
- 55:55Speaker 1: it is amazing to listen to stories of people suffering
- 55:58Speaker 1: and you don't know what people have been through. And
- 55:59Speaker 1: I said, you know, we can all relate to that.
- 56:02Speaker 1: My microwave broke during COVID and that well done well
- 56:06Speaker 1: And it worked because it was clearly, clearly oh my.
- 56:10Speaker 2: God, goodness. Yeah, and they're the stories that we need
- 56:13Speaker 2: to hear.
- 56:13Speaker 3: But it's pretty tough when you're the entertainer who's supposed
- 56:16Speaker 3: to stand up on stage after that. Just just quickly,
- 56:19Speaker 3: I just did an engineer's facilitated engineering conference for the
- 56:24Speaker 3: last two days Thursday and Friday. If we are at
- 56:27Speaker 3: the Institute of Public Works Engineering, Australasia.
- 56:31Speaker 2: Try and drop a joke in that conference two days.
- 56:38Speaker 2: It took me eight sessions before I got them laughing.
- 56:42Speaker 2: I get that. I came home after day one, Rose
- 56:45Speaker 2: said I had it go.
- 56:46Speaker 3: We don't speak to me. Don't speak to me. She goes,
- 56:48Speaker 3: I was really that bad. I said, I've got to
- 56:50Speaker 3: find a way. I need to break the ice got up.
- 56:52Speaker 2: The next day. I had a little plan I got nothing. Anyhow,
- 56:56Speaker 2: halfway through the.
- 56:58Speaker 3: Halfway through the day actually because we had to there
- 57:02Speaker 3: was a bit of gap in time, and so I
- 57:03Speaker 3: had to make it up. And I was like, oh god,
- 57:05Speaker 3: we go three hundred engineers and I've made it really clear.
- 57:08Speaker 2: I was from Sport and I was hit to learn.
- 57:11Speaker 3: And so while we were doing a bit of a
- 57:13Speaker 3: get to know you, I asked if anyone had.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Any engineering jokes.
- 57:16Speaker 3: And there was one gentleman in the room who was
- 57:18Speaker 3: quite well known engineer, and he stood up and told
- 57:21Speaker 3: a joke which I had prior to going that they
- 57:23Speaker 3: looked up on chat GBT engineering jokes and this was.
- 57:26Speaker 2: The only one that was of any decency. Anyhow, I
- 57:29Speaker 2: handed him the microphone.
- 57:31Speaker 3: He told the joke, and they didn't laugh, like one,
- 57:35Speaker 3: not one engineer laughed at an engineer. And so I
- 57:39Speaker 3: sort of gave this kind of you know, you know,
- 57:42Speaker 3: like whatever kind of how embarrassing that an engineer told joke.
- 57:45Speaker 3: They thought that was hysterical, and they all burst out
- 57:48Speaker 3: laughing at me, having a crack ated engineer. For two
- 57:51Speaker 3: hundred and fifty.
- 57:52Speaker 2: Nine engineers not laughing at one engine the moment where
- 57:55Speaker 2: you could you couldn't have you couldn't have dressed it up,
- 57:57Speaker 2: you couldn't script it right.
- 57:59Speaker 3: And it was this lease moment, and I actually got
- 58:01Speaker 3: up on stage and I said, Gods, I've had to
- 58:03Speaker 3: work really hard just to release the velve you all.
- 58:05Speaker 3: And then they all sort of sat back and laughed,
- 58:07Speaker 3: and then I did something else and they laughed, and
- 58:09Speaker 3: then I, yeah, I told a.
- 58:10Speaker 2: Joke at that, and the conference wasn't long enough, and
- 58:12Speaker 2: then I was like, oh, we're finished. Okay, yeah, very grateful.
- 58:16Speaker 2: If we are, sorry of perseverance. I like it.
- 58:21Speaker 1: Now we are going to have to go talk to
- 58:23Speaker 1: you all day at you women, but that's just going
- 58:27Speaker 1: to make Alex our producer's job hard. A couple of
- 58:29Speaker 1: things to keep an eye out for. We're still working through.
- 58:32Speaker 1: How do people come and sit with me and get
- 58:34Speaker 1: on the drink at the Swift's anniversary dinner. But we
- 58:36Speaker 1: will have something. There will be no flights, there will
- 58:38Speaker 1: be no accommodation, there'll be no petrol money. It's just
- 58:41Speaker 1: come to the dinner, sit with us. You don't have
- 58:43Speaker 1: to pay for your ticket. We'll pay for your dinner.
- 58:46Speaker 1: But keep an eye out on that. On the socials,
- 58:50Speaker 1: not too late to join the tipping comp No dribble
- 58:52Speaker 1: dot com dot are you. Send your ask the Goat
- 58:55Speaker 1: questions to info at no dribble dot com dot are
- 58:58Speaker 1: you And if you are in New South Wales, please
- 59:01Speaker 1: come out and support this effort to try to get
- 59:04Speaker 1: the largest, the most attended game in sun Corps Supernetball history.
- 59:07Speaker 1: It's going to be two amazing games of netball this weekend. Giants, Vixen's, Swiftsmavs.
- 59:13Speaker 1: You know we've got the greatest game. Get out there
- 59:14Speaker 1: and support it. I think that's all of the administration
- 59:18Speaker 1: done now.
- 59:19Speaker 3: Mostly done, excellent, Well thanks thanks Gordy.
- 59:23Speaker 2: Great to have you back.
- 59:24Speaker 1: Thanks and you're going to look for dresses, outfit.
- 59:32Speaker 3: Outfit track suits. You said you'd be comfortable if we
- 59:35Speaker 3: all went into tracks. Imagine if the four of us
- 59:37Speaker 3: turned up in a tracksuit. Will the Swifts be thrilled
- 59:41Speaker 3: with that?
- 59:42Speaker 1: Though the cocktail?
- 59:43Speaker 2: No? But yes, leave it with me circle back, Susan.
- 59:50Speaker 3: The last time you said leave it with me and
- 59:52Speaker 3: I trusted you either are in a black curly wig
- 59:55Speaker 3: and a sequin dress, singing something or other and winking
- 59:58Speaker 3: at a camera in a way that I've it was sultry,
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: and then when it came up on the screen in
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: the Centurion stage show, I look like an idiot son who.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Trusts very fond memories of that Elizabeth. So you know,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: Jamie selfish, be a give.
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: A reminder of how my brain works. Let me tell you.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: I know so I'm nervous on that note. See next week,
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: See you next week.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: Susan, Thank you, Sue Grdion, thank you, Liz Nella, Carolin Swodell.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: Have great week, guys. Bye bye,
