- 0:00Speaker 1: I haven't seen one of those since before I got pregnant.
- 0:02Speaker 1: It's one more thing, oh my, before we get to
- 0:09Speaker 1: Katie Green.
- 0:13Speaker 2: I was thinking about this yesterday.
- 0:15Speaker 3: I was kind of annoyed by something all day long,
- 0:18Speaker 3: just kind of mildly annoyed physically. No no, no, no, not
- 0:22Speaker 3: not emotionally. I mean, I understand your response, but physically,
- 0:25Speaker 3: I was physically annoyed by something. It occurred to me
- 0:27Speaker 3: at some point my left shoe was tied way too
- 0:30Speaker 3: tight and it was like squeezing on my foot, and
- 0:35Speaker 3: it got.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Me to think of me.
- 0:36Speaker 3: I've been thinking about this for a while because I
- 0:38Speaker 3: got I got one kid who's got sensory issues, and
- 0:41Speaker 3: the issues are just like heightened senses, like for feeling
- 0:46Speaker 3: like the tag and a shirt or things like that.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Some people have this, certain materials really drive them crazy.
- 0:52Speaker 3: I think I'm the other direction. I think I have
- 0:55Speaker 3: And it's got to be true, right that if some
- 0:57Speaker 3: people have more, some people have less. I think I've
- 0:59Speaker 3: left sensitivity to things, and it's I really have to
- 1:02Speaker 3: be hit over the head with the fact that, oh,
- 1:05Speaker 3: you're cold or wet, or you gotta rock in your
- 1:07Speaker 3: shoe or whatever. I just like kind of don't notice
- 1:11Speaker 3: it or put up with it, and it's like, oh, yeah,
- 1:13Speaker 3: that's what that problem is.
- 1:16Speaker 2: I think number.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Yeah, well obviously only you would know that, but that
- 1:20Speaker 4: certainly squares with all the stories you've told through the years.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, I think I just don't like notice, well,
- 1:27Speaker 3: you put up with things that not only other people,
- 1:29Speaker 3: most other people would never put up with.
- 1:32Speaker 4: But some of it is like fairly easily rectified, so
- 1:37Speaker 4: you must not be as bothered as other people just
- 1:40Speaker 4: are not that bothered.
- 1:41Speaker 1: So you noticed, you noticed it earlier on in the day,
- 1:45Speaker 1: and then just kind of let it be that thing.
- 1:47Speaker 3: There's just something mildly in the background annoying, and it
- 1:53Speaker 3: wasn't like enough to dwell on. But then at some
- 1:55Speaker 3: point I realized my left shoe is tied way too tie.
- 1:59Speaker 3: But I I think I do this with lots of
- 2:02Speaker 3: things where it's just like it. And since I've got
- 2:05Speaker 3: an example in my life of that being extra sensitive
- 2:11Speaker 3: to those things, I just wonder if I'm south of
- 2:14Speaker 3: the average line as opposed to north of it.
- 2:18Speaker 4: It's it's been said many times, including by me, that
- 2:21Speaker 4: to spend five minutes in somebody else's brain somebody else's
- 2:24Speaker 4: mind would be like the most terrifying experience ever. I
- 2:27Speaker 4: think it would be incredibly disorienting too. I lost that
- 2:30Speaker 4: they could create that somehow. I mean, you'd have to
- 2:33Speaker 4: take a deep breath and like have a safe word
- 2:37Speaker 4: or whatever. I'll bet it would be just absolutely mind
- 2:42Speaker 4: blowing to be inside somebody else's head.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Regularly in my life people have said that noise isn't
- 2:47Speaker 3: that driving and crazy?
- 2:47Speaker 2: Like what noise? Oh?
- 2:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I guess that is annoying. You know, I
- 2:51Speaker 3: don't notice or the bright light or whatever it is.
- 2:53Speaker 3: It's just I don't know. I have low sensitivity, which
- 2:56Speaker 3: I don't know if it's a good thing or a
- 2:57Speaker 3: bad thing, but anyway, just observed it. Yes, Katie, Well
- 3:00Speaker 3: what are you saying?
- 3:01Speaker 2: Oh h with the story for today?
- 3:04Speaker 1: Yeah? God, okay, So first I want to start this
- 3:08Speaker 1: by saying, I don't know, pregnancy brain or baby brain
- 3:11Speaker 1: whatever they call it is.
- 3:12Speaker 2: A very real thing.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm my awareness is down and I have turned
- 3:19Speaker 1: into a klutz, which is something that I have never
- 3:22Speaker 1: been interesting. Yeah, So I'm getting ready this morning, and
- 3:27Speaker 1: because I am a sweet angel of a wife, I
- 3:30Speaker 1: lay my clothes out the night before, and I take
- 3:32Speaker 1: them into the office to get dressed so that I
- 3:34Speaker 1: don't wake Drew up.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Yeah, very nice.
- 3:37Speaker 1: And in the past couple of months, we have taken
- 3:39Speaker 1: all of the things out of Drew's office and moved
- 3:42Speaker 1: them into my office because Drew's office is going to
- 3:45Speaker 1: be the baby's room. So things have been kind of
- 3:48Speaker 1: moved around in here, but I'm aware of it.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Sure.
- 3:51Speaker 1: So this morning, I sit down, I put my clothes on,
- 3:55Speaker 1: and for some reason, my brain told me to stand
- 3:58Speaker 1: up to put my socks on. So I stood up,
- 4:01Speaker 1: got the left one on successfully.
- 4:03Speaker 2: I go to put the wing.
- 4:04Speaker 3: You put your socks on standing.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Don't ask me why. I never do that. I don't
- 4:08Speaker 1: know what happened this morning, but for some.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Reason anyway, I'm not sure what percentage of people could
- 4:14Speaker 3: even put their socks on standing.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Well, congratulations. The high risk maneuver is I think we're
- 4:18Speaker 4: about to get to well.
- 4:19Speaker 1: And I can tell you that I used to be
- 4:21Speaker 1: able to like reach down and like grab onto my foot.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I can no longer do that because Mabel is in
- 4:26Speaker 1: the way, So that's becoming kind of an issue.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Yeah, me too.
- 4:31Speaker 3: You don't mean just when you were a kid, you mean,
- 4:33Speaker 3: just prepregnancy, you could reach down and grab onto your foot.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm pretty flexible, but.
- 4:39Speaker 4: I can too almost. I know that amazes you. If
- 4:42Speaker 4: my knees are perfectly straight, I can't quite get there.
- 4:45Speaker 4: But if I bend them and grab my toes, I
- 4:48Speaker 4: can straighten them to within you know, half a degree
- 4:50Speaker 4: of straight.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I've been working on it like crazy. That's really good. Yeah,
- 4:53Speaker 2: that's good.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, Well, nothing like excruciating pain to motivate a person,
- 4:57Speaker 4: and that's what got me going.
- 4:58Speaker 3: So yeah, and you also your hope to be on
- 5:00Speaker 3: the twenty twenty eight gymnastics team.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Well, I'm I'm auditioning for the circula for the twenty
- 5:07Speaker 4: fifth consecutive year, and this year, fingers crossed, I think
- 5:11Speaker 4: my dream may come true. Ugh.
- 5:15Speaker 1: So I'm I'm doing the amazing feat that is putting.
- 5:18Speaker 4: Remind me to reshave my torso anyway, back to you, Katie.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Trying to Okay, that's an image. So I get the
- 5:29Speaker 1: left one on successfully. Now I'm supposed to put the
- 5:31Speaker 1: right sock on. I full force because you know you're
- 5:36Speaker 1: not thinking, so you're you're just leaning forward as.
- 5:38Speaker 2: You usually would. Oh no, full force.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Bridge of my nose to the back of an office
- 5:44Speaker 1: chair that is so hard plastic. Oh this was at about.
- 5:52Speaker 2: You had a fall.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Yeah, basically, this is about three h five in the morning.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I hadn't obviously said anything to anybody because nobody on
- 5:59Speaker 1: the planet was up, and the first word out of
- 6:01Speaker 1: my mouth.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Was fuck yeah, of course, And I've.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Kind of walked it off for a minute because I
- 6:09Speaker 1: was still disoriented. I had a full blown nose bleed,
- 6:12Speaker 1: full blown nose, just gushing blood. So I did most
- 6:15Speaker 1: of my prep with a tampon in my nose.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Oh boy, did that to yourself?
- 6:20Speaker 3: You split your nose open, bleeding everywhere by putting your
- 6:23Speaker 3: socks on.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I don't know that I didn't split the skin, but
- 6:28Speaker 1: my nose just started gushing. And I will be period
- 6:32Speaker 1: very interested to see when I take my makeup off
- 6:34Speaker 1: if I am bruised, because it is sore all through here.
- 6:38Speaker 1: But yeah, I had to go find a tampon somewhere
- 6:41Speaker 1: and shove it up my nose because tissues weren't working.
- 6:45Speaker 3: You shouldn't do crazy daredevil things like trying to put
- 6:47Speaker 3: your socks on.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Good God, I know that that supervision.
- 6:52Speaker 1: I've never been this klutzy in my lights and it's frustrating.
- 6:55Speaker 3: I don't know what point this happens, but I know
- 6:57Speaker 3: many pregnant women toward the end they're kind of into
- 7:00Speaker 3: a uh, sockless slide in shoe world or flip flops.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Yeah, well, okay, next time, yeah.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Maybe, because that was that was a hazard. But just
- 7:12Speaker 1: just within you know, five minutes aga, I hadn't even
- 7:14Speaker 1: brushed my teeth yet.
- 7:15Speaker 4: It's just like, well, and before and after my my
- 7:19Speaker 4: hip surgeries, I had a sock put her on her
- 7:23Speaker 4: mechanism that you can get super inexpensively on the internet.
- 7:26Speaker 4: Good for pregnant ladies too, It's really and given your history,
- 7:30Speaker 4: you know, might save your life.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Is it good for lazy people?
- 7:34Speaker 4: You know? I? Well, yeah, if you if bending over
- 7:36Speaker 4: exhausts you, yeah, but SI, you know, i'd send it
- 7:39Speaker 4: to you.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I think I got rid of them all, but they're
- 7:41Speaker 2: they're super cheap hunks. Okay.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I actually seriously considering it because that was unexpected and
- 7:48Speaker 1: I did not like it one bit.
- 7:49Speaker 2: What's it called.
- 7:50Speaker 3: It can't be called a sock put her on her?
- 7:53Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I don't remember. It's something like that.
- 7:56Speaker 4: It's like a curved piece of plastic that you can
- 7:58Speaker 4: put the sock over, like stretch.
- 8:01Speaker 2: The top a sock helper, sock helper. There you go.
- 8:04Speaker 4: That's not at all I feel pathetic, but well times
- 8:08Speaker 4: we're all pathetic. That's part of life. We come into
- 8:10Speaker 4: the world pathetic, we leave it pathetic. Don't be ashamed anyway.
- 8:13Speaker 4: But so you put the sock, stretch it over it,
- 8:16Speaker 4: and then you and it's got ropes attached to it,
- 8:19Speaker 4: and then you pull it up over your foot and
- 8:22Speaker 4: it kind of slides itself out of the way, as
- 8:24Speaker 4: I recalls years ago.
- 8:26Speaker 2: But it's very handy.
- 8:27Speaker 3: We did that, say this show, we're going to start
- 8:29Speaker 3: endorsing sock helpers and walk in tubs and.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Well, and I had a stick with grabbers on the
- 8:36Speaker 4: end that I would use to take stuff off shelves
- 8:38Speaker 4: and stuff.
- 8:38Speaker 2: So yeah, it was nice.
- 8:40Speaker 3: So the baby brain thing, I know that it's a
- 8:42Speaker 3: real thing, a term, and I've heard Sam and Henry's
- 8:48Speaker 3: mom talk about it. When so what what is the
- 8:50Speaker 3: theory behind that, like that all the nutrients is going
- 8:53Speaker 3: to the growing person inside you and leaves your brain
- 8:57Speaker 3: lacking or do you have any idea what cause.
- 8:58Speaker 1: That's That's what I've been told by doctors is that
- 9:01Speaker 1: you know, my all of my body, everything, my immune system,
- 9:05Speaker 1: my brain, my nutrients, everything's going to him right now.
- 9:08Speaker 2: It's the baby. Yeah.
- 9:09Speaker 4: And plus the blood flow that's not flowing out of
- 9:12Speaker 4: your nose right right.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Well.
- 9:14Speaker 1: And I also I didn't know this, but my blood
- 9:17Speaker 1: volume has doubled in this process.
- 9:20Speaker 2: I'd forgotten that.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Yeah, so that probably had a lot to do with
- 9:22Speaker 1: the niagara falls that I dealt with this morning. But
- 9:26Speaker 1: also I didn't.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Volume is double. Yeah.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Yeah, And I didn't realize this because everybody says, oh,
- 9:33Speaker 1: the second trimester, that's the best part. There's a slump
- 9:37Speaker 1: in like eighteen to twenty four weeks, which I'm right
- 9:40Speaker 1: in the middle of where you just you hit another
- 9:43Speaker 1: another wall. You're just tired and disoriented and all that.
- 9:47Speaker 1: So I don't know all of those things together by
- 9:50Speaker 1: the amount of time.
- 9:51Speaker 4: That's where I spent a lot of my life tired
- 9:53Speaker 4: and disoriented.
- 9:54Speaker 2: So you'll get used to it.
- 9:56Speaker 1: The amount of times that I've said, Kate, what are
- 9:58Speaker 1: you doing to myself?
- 10:00Speaker 3: That's interesting?
- 10:01Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, it's it's.
- 10:04Speaker 4: Interesting as I'm thinking about is it adaptive? In some way.
- 10:10Speaker 4: I just think it's a biological necessity, and it makes
- 10:13Speaker 4: you more vulnerable to whatever might befall you, whether it's
- 10:18Speaker 4: a self induced three Stooges episode, or you know, an
- 10:22Speaker 4: attack by somebody else God help us, or you know,
- 10:26Speaker 4: the other tribe comes over the hill, which is why
- 10:29Speaker 4: males have and I feel it rising in me as
- 10:32Speaker 4: I'm discussing it, have a protective instinct that is literally
- 10:39Speaker 4: murderous if necessary to protect your pregnant woman, wife or
- 10:45Speaker 4: your child, because I think we instinctively understand that she's
- 10:51Speaker 4: not just in the obvious state of vulnerability, but even
- 10:54Speaker 4: the defense mechanisms that you would have as a as
- 10:57Speaker 4: an adult, everything is taken about seat to nurture, nurturing
- 11:01Speaker 4: and nourishing the child. So that's why, you know, men
- 11:04Speaker 4: who are manly men have that protective instinct.
- 11:09Speaker 3: I remember when you're when Judy was pregnant and you
- 11:11Speaker 3: got really good with the numb chucks practicing ready to.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Take oh yeah, yeah, oh yeah. A waiter would be
- 11:17Speaker 2: rude to me.
- 11:17Speaker 4: I would just practice on him for him to do
- 11:19Speaker 4: his knees right exactly, yes, to stay sharp.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Well, I guess that's it.
