• 1:08
Speaker 1: classic music. So hey, if you have a question for Seef,

Speaker 1: Later on in the program, we're also going to have
• 1:15
Speaker 1: Steven Allen Adams here from OUTGA Newspapers. I'm going to
• 1:18
Speaker 1: get his opinion on the Pittsburgh Post Gazette closing. For
• 1:21
Speaker 1: one thing, that's a huge story in our region. Pittsburgh
• 1:24
Speaker 1: is going to be the largest city in the country
• 1:26
Speaker 1: without a daily newspapers. Yeah. Yeah, they're going to close
• 1:30
Speaker 1: in May. They've been two hundred and forty years. It's
• 1:33
Speaker 1: a newspaper and they're shutting their doors and it's going
• 1:35
Speaker 1: to leave Pittsburgh without a daily newspaper, believe it or not,
• 1:38
Speaker 1: no daily newspaper daily, that's right, Thank god, they're pretty
• 1:43
Speaker 1: much all gone. Plus up, we have the upcoming legislative
• 1:45
Speaker 1: session and what all that means with tax breaks or
• 1:49
Speaker 1: no tax breaks, things like that. We'll get Steven's idea
• 1:51
Speaker 1: on what to expect in the upcoming legislative session. And
• 1:54
Speaker 1: then towards the end of the program, speaking of that,
• 1:56
Speaker 1: I've invited onto the program one Hoppy Kruschival is going
• 1:59
Speaker 1: to be with it, and I wanted to talk to Hoppy,
• 2:01
Speaker 1: not so much about what to expect with this legislative session,
• 2:04
Speaker 1: because of course Hopy is in retirement more or less,
• 2:07
Speaker 1: and he's handed that off to TJ and Dave. However,
• 2:11
Speaker 1: it was Hoppy's back for a long time man, and
• 2:13
Speaker 1: so I want to get the documentary perspective from Hoppy.
• 2:16
Speaker 1: What made you go do it? What some of your
• 2:18
Speaker 1: best experiences things like that.
• 2:19
Speaker 2: I was reading actually the Daily Mail over the weekend
• 2:22
Speaker 2: and Hoppy has a column in there, and yeah, it
• 2:25
Speaker 2: was nice to see. It's like he really hasn't retired.
• 2:28
Speaker 2: He still does some stuff. Yeah, he's doing He's still
• 2:31
Speaker 2: doing a ton of stuff. So yeah, he is far
• 2:33
  Speaker 2: from Urchan, just.
• 2:34
Speaker 1: Not the Daily Show. So that's what we're going to
• 2:35
Speaker 1: do for you on the radio today. So if you
• 2:37
Speaker 1: have any questions during the time, you can send us
• 2:39
Speaker 1: a text line. That's the threeser of four none, three, five,
• 2:41
Speaker 1: fives years of your eight threes are four nine three
• 2:43
Speaker 1: five fives years or eight. You can also call us
• 2:45
Speaker 1: this morning threezer of four three four five fifty fifteen. Well,
• 2:47
Speaker 1: it's no news to anybody that we are back in
• 2:49
Speaker 1: twenty twenty six, which means that a lot of things
• 2:52
Speaker 1: that maybe went on pause or hiatus over the holiday season,
• 2:56
Speaker 1: we're starting to get back into the swing of things.
• 2:58
Speaker 1: And that's things all around the city and the valley
• 3:00
Speaker 1: and things like that. But one of the things that
• 3:01
Speaker 1: we do, and that is Steve Animal over at five
• 3:04
Speaker 1: Street Brewing here in downtown Charleston. And then that comes
• 3:07
  Speaker 1: back tonight.
• 3:08
Speaker 2: Yes it does. Now normally it's the first and third
• 3:10
Speaker 2: Thursdays of the month, but being January first was the.
• 3:14
  Speaker 1: Holiday very important.
• 3:15
Speaker 2: Yes, so they shut down so their friends and family
• 3:17
Speaker 2: could all enjoy, and so we're firing it back up tonight.
• 3:20
Speaker 2: It's going to be a good time, starting at four
• 3:23
Speaker 2: o'clock before I get there. If you like potato chips,
• 3:26
Speaker 2: and who doesn't, they're doing a potato chip and beer pairing,
• 3:30
Speaker 2: which should be pretty that's very interesting.
• 3:32
Speaker 1: Sure, homemade homemade potato.
• 3:34
Speaker 2: Chat like so I saw it up online. I said okay,
• 3:37
Speaker 2: so they have all kinds of difference, Yes, the different chips.
• 3:39
Speaker 2: I talked to John Q, the manager over there, and
• 3:42
Speaker 2: he's like, yeah, we're going to be doing that beforehand.
• 3:44
Speaker 2: So I was like, well, very cool, and the weather
• 3:47
Speaker 2: is going to be phenomenal. You want to sit outside tonight.
• 3:49
Speaker 2: Oh my god, come come, come, come come outside.
• 3:53
Speaker 1: It's gonna be great at sixty right, sixty or anything,
• 3:56
Speaker 1: going to be sixty two or sixty three at six
• 3:59
Speaker 1: o'clock still, so I'm looking forward to it. Yeah, that
• 4:02
Speaker 1: is that is very that's very exceptional. So you guys
• 4:05
Speaker 1: will be over there. What time is the festivities get
• 4:07
  Speaker 1: started for you?
• 4:08
Speaker 2: So I start setting up about five forty five, six o'clock,
• 4:12
Speaker 2: things fire up. I have flowers from Art's Flowers and Dunbar.
• 4:15
Speaker 2: I have gift certificates. I have limited edition Mountain Steve
• 4:19
Speaker 2: Animal T shirts we give away.
• 4:20
  Speaker 1: Those are great.
• 4:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, those are awesome. And I also have my beer
• 4:25
Speaker 2: Animal Ale that's right now. I know it's sold out
• 4:28
Speaker 2: right now, but they will be brewing more So. I
• 4:31
Speaker 2: feel very blessed and honored to have a beer at
• 4:35
Speaker 2: one of my favorite places. And the food is awesome.
• 4:37
Speaker 2: So you should come hungry, like this buffalo grilled cheese thing.
• 4:42
Speaker 2: It's really really good.
• 4:44
Speaker 1: I haven't breakfast yet, So let's not talk too much
• 4:46
Speaker 1: about food because that's started to sound pretty good. And
• 4:48
Speaker 1: you talk about your limited edition T shirts. I had
• 4:50
Speaker 1: to go through a special triplicate form just to get
• 4:52
Speaker 1: one of those, Like I had the regular Mountain T shirt,
• 4:54
Speaker 1: you know, I mean they get one of those first.
• 4:56
Speaker 1: But to get like the Collector's edition, the Steve the
• 4:59
Speaker 1: Animal Mountain T shirt, I had to go through some
• 5:01
Speaker 1: you know, I had a paperwork man, Yeah, go through
• 5:04
Speaker 1: an interview. Like I finally got one. I keep it
• 5:07
Speaker 1: hung on my walle at home and only wear every
• 5:09
Speaker 1: once in a while. I can autograph it with my
• 5:10
Speaker 1: silver Sharply Different Life. So that's going to be a
• 5:13
Speaker 1: five street broom tonight. You can go over there and
• 5:15
Speaker 1: catch Steve Animals going to be over there, and and
• 5:18
Speaker 1: then are you gonna be over there next Thursday as
• 5:20
Speaker 1: well to catch up.
• 5:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, So usually first and third Thursdays, and then next
• 5:23
Speaker 2: Thursday is going to be pretty cool. It's Mountain Stage night,
• 5:26
Speaker 2: So Bob Thompson's going to be there, John Ingram's will
• 5:29
Speaker 2: be there. Jeff Sureley, my buddy, he'll be there of course,
• 5:31
Speaker 2: and some of the other crew and yeah, so it's
• 5:34
Speaker 2: going to be a great party and just lots of fun.
• 5:37
Speaker 2: Fife Street voted the best happy hour place in Charleston,
• 5:41
Speaker 2: so that's great kinda, it's nice and fun to be
• 5:44
Speaker 2: a part of it.
• 5:45
Speaker 1: So I'll go anywhere that where you have Johnny Ingram
• 5:48
Speaker 1: and setting up to play music as I'm kind and
• 5:50
Speaker 1: Bob Thompson. You get Bob Thompson and John Ingram in
• 5:52
  Speaker 1: a room. I'm there man. Yeah, it's because it's gonna
• 5:54
  Speaker 1: be cool.
• 5:54
Speaker 2: Absolutely, and it's it's a lot of fun. Just grab
• 5:57
Speaker 2: your friends, like even here, Rob Reel from our sister
• 6:00
Speaker 2: station ninety six, Daniel Woods comes down, some of our staff,
• 6:05
Speaker 2: Tracy he'll show up, Bobby he'll show and it's kind
• 6:08
Speaker 2: of like a big party.
• 6:08
Speaker 1: So fantastic time. Yeah, it's a great time. So you
• 6:11
Speaker 1: can check out out over five Street starting. It's gonna
• 6:13
Speaker 1: be tonight and tomorrow and then we'll get back on
• 6:14
Speaker 1: the regular schedule of the first and third of every Thursday.
• 6:17
Speaker 1: So that's going to be a Steve Animal from ninety
• 6:19
Speaker 1: eight seven to the Mountain. A couple more minutes with
• 6:20
Speaker 1: Steve here, and I thought, I was, We're going to
• 6:23
Speaker 1: have one every year on Hotline after the show we
• 6:25
Speaker 1: do in the afternoon. We have a rock book author,
• 6:28
Speaker 1: his name is Chris mcclintook, who comes on every year
• 6:31
Speaker 1: and he'll talk about the upcoming concerts and things like that,
• 6:34
Speaker 1: and we have a generally a classic rock vibe on
• 6:37
Speaker 1: the show, so we talk about a lot of the
• 6:39
Speaker 1: I do listen I do. I hear that you do
• 6:41
Speaker 1: do some pretty good stuff with classic rock over over
• 6:43
Speaker 1: the time. So I thought that we could talk a
• 6:45
Speaker 1: little bit about some of these some of these shows
• 6:47
Speaker 1: that are going to be coming around in twenty twenty
• 6:49
Speaker 1: six and how you feel about them, like the hot
• 6:51
Speaker 1: and cold of these types of shows. The first thing
• 6:53
Speaker 1: I wanted to ask about because I have been on
• 6:55
Speaker 1: this huge playlist that I made recently. I recently made
• 6:57
Speaker 1: this playlist that's it's about seven hundre songs that's from
• 7:00
Speaker 1: nineteen sixty five to two thousand and five, okay, and
• 7:03
Speaker 1: I did it's curated, so I went through and found
• 7:06
Speaker 1: like top albums, like experimental music, genre breakers, like all
• 7:11
Speaker 1: these different things to create this playlist. I like it
• 7:13
Speaker 1: a lot but I've gone through like I've always listened
• 7:16
Speaker 1: to music from all eras, but I've been listening to
• 7:19
Speaker 1: a lot of music and being reintroduced to music that
• 7:21
Speaker 1: I'd forgotten about. Like I know all the sixties and
• 7:23
Speaker 1: seventies music that are the headliners and stuff, and I've
• 7:26
Speaker 1: heard it all, but you hear stuff that was like
• 7:28
Speaker 1: a great hit in nineteen seventy four that maybe wasn't
• 7:31
Speaker 1: by one of the great bands that carried on a
• 7:33
Speaker 1: one hit was exactly or even three hit wonders that
• 7:35
Speaker 1: you just kind of forget about, you know. But I
• 7:37
Speaker 1: was thinking one of the bands that are that's making
• 7:39
Speaker 1: a reunion tour this year that I was really surprised
• 7:41
Speaker 1: about is the Guess Who. Yes, so the Guess Who
• 7:43
Speaker 1: is coming back, and it's it's still a great name
• 7:45
Speaker 1: because you could kind of guess who's going to be
• 7:47
Speaker 1: part of the band. I just played them this morning.
• 7:49
Speaker 1: I love the Guess Who. But but there's some controversy
• 7:52
Speaker 1: about the naming and the people that's going to be
• 7:53
Speaker 1: in the band and stuff like that. But if the
• 7:55
Speaker 1: Guess Who was coming near by high or cold, is
• 7:57
Speaker 1: that a band you'd want to go see? I would
• 7:58
Speaker 1: go see them. I think I would too.
• 8:00
Speaker 2: I did not get to see them in their heyday obviously,
• 8:03
Speaker 2: so it'll be uh, you know, the best version they
• 8:05
  Speaker 2: can offer.
• 8:06
Speaker 1: Whatever that is, right.
• 8:10
Speaker 2: Clear, dude. Some of them are on life support, some
• 8:13
Speaker 2: of them are still kicking. But yeah, I would go
• 8:15
  Speaker 2: see it.
• 8:16
Speaker 1: So. Yes. Another big, big news in the Classic rock
• 8:18
Speaker 1: front is there's rumors that Getty and Alex are going
• 8:21
Speaker 1: to be playing some more shows together for Rush, that
• 8:24
Speaker 1: they might be doing a tour and it's going to
• 8:25
Speaker 1: be a little closer to actually Rush. That's going to
• 8:28
Speaker 1: be out there hot or cold one seeing Rush. Yeah,
• 8:31
Speaker 1: I would go see that show, especially if you're talking
• 8:33
Speaker 1: about a little bit of a reunion. There.
• 8:35
Speaker 2: A friend of mine from Boston, Donna Halper, she was
• 8:37
Speaker 2: one of the first DJs who broke them back in Philly,
• 8:40
Speaker 2: and I think it was MMR she was on. But
• 8:44
Speaker 2: she's still in contact with them, so it's kind of
• 8:46
Speaker 2: neat to get the you know, her pulse, she's right
• 8:49
Speaker 2: on it, so I always check her page every couple
• 8:52
Speaker 2: of days and yeah, so definitely it's going to be
• 8:55
  Speaker 2: a great tour.
• 8:55
Speaker 1: Yeah, I would look forward to seeing that one. A
• 8:58
Speaker 1: couple of them that I'm not well a couple of them,
• 9:00
Speaker 1: I'm not sure what you feel about, Like, what about
• 9:02
Speaker 1: a band like Blue Oyster Cold. Does that have to
• 9:04
Speaker 1: do much for you? You fear the me when we
• 9:06
  Speaker 1: still play them.
• 9:07
Speaker 2: I don't know if they would have that, people would
• 9:10
Speaker 2: be going crazy about.
• 9:11
Speaker 1: Oh god, it's not the same. Yeah. Right, let's see
• 9:14
Speaker 1: Robert Plant's going to be on touriling. I think he can.
• 9:17
Speaker 1: He owes us a show here in charlestonow. Yes, he does.
• 9:20
Speaker 1: I remember he canceled.
• 9:21
Speaker 2: I had tickets for it back in the Me Too,
• 9:23
Speaker 2: Me Too, Yeah, the Neverland tour that never landed unfortunately,
• 9:28
Speaker 2: Heat Loaf and there were a couple others.
• 9:30
Speaker 1: Always No, I'm talking that must have been even farther ago.
• 9:33
Speaker 1: He was actually supposed to be here during COVID as well. Yes,
• 9:36
Speaker 1: and he canceled that show. And I've been told that
• 9:38
Speaker 1: he's going to make it up, but I don't know when.
• 9:40
Speaker 2: I was kind of hoping, like when they announced the
• 9:42
Speaker 2: Wheeling show, that he would have started here.
• 9:44
Speaker 1: I know there, so I'd love to go see planting.
• 9:47
Speaker 1: I haven't had a chance to see plant yet. So
• 9:48
Speaker 1: we're on the same okay. Eric Clapton, Eric Clapton is
• 9:50
Speaker 1: apparently doing this more like house shows. He doesn't do
• 9:53
Speaker 1: concerts anymore. It's like these intimate little settings where he'll
• 9:56
Speaker 1: just play guitar or whatever. He does have any interest
• 9:58
Speaker 1: in that, Yes, he wouldn't see that him. I think
• 10:01
Speaker 1: that would be interesting, you know.
• 10:02
Speaker 2: Like I had the opportunity to see BB King years
• 10:06
Speaker 2: ago at the Auditorium and it was just trying to
• 10:10
Speaker 2: think Bonamasso opened up for him, and I actually had
• 10:13
Speaker 2: him in the studio and fortunate enough to go pre
• 10:17
Speaker 2: show and hang out with BB King and Bonamasso before
• 10:21
  Speaker 2: the show.
• 10:22
  Speaker 1: That is awesome.
• 10:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, And I wish I had like cell phones back
• 10:26
Speaker 2: in the day, you know, for the pictures and stuff.
• 10:28
Speaker 2: You know, you have your memories now, Yeah, all I
• 10:30
Speaker 2: have is like I'm sitting where you're at. Bob's there
• 10:33
Speaker 2: and I'm about a few feet closer and he's got
• 10:36
Speaker 2: his guitar in his hand, he's just leaning on it. Yeah,
• 10:40
Speaker 2: I mean, it's just like one of those things. It's
• 10:41
Speaker 2: still burned in my head. So it's I've been very
• 10:45
Speaker 2: fortunate through the years to see a lot of great
• 10:47
Speaker 2: shows come through Charleston.
• 10:48
Speaker 1: Steve Animal here from ninety eight to seven the Mountain.
• 10:51
Speaker 1: They're going to be back at five Street tonight, sop
• 10:53
Speaker 1: five Street brewing. A couple more hotter cold concert questions here,
• 10:57
Speaker 1: and then I'll cutch a loose Steve one of the
• 10:59
Speaker 1: guys that want my bucket list. I don't know how
• 11:01
Speaker 1: how you feel about him, but David Byrne has been
• 11:04
Speaker 1: on tour for a while now, and I've heard that
• 11:06
Speaker 1: tour is absolutely amazing. I'm sure it.
• 11:07
Speaker 2: Would be amazing. I've never seen him in concert. I
• 11:10
Speaker 2: forget one of the show's award shows this past year
• 11:14
Speaker 2: and he was on it.
• 11:15
Speaker 1: I was just like, it's still amazing. He sounds great.
• 11:18
Speaker 1: He does. I mean when you hear him do any
• 11:21
Speaker 1: of the stuff from talking Heads or anything else that
• 11:23
Speaker 1: he does in the big shows that he puts on,
• 11:25
Speaker 1: he still sounds absolutely amazing.
• 11:28
Speaker 2: That didn't burn out their vocals. Like when Pat Benattar
• 11:30
Speaker 2: came to the Clay Center this year, it's like Bravo
• 11:33
  Speaker 2: on point man.
• 11:34
Speaker 1: Yeah, he's still seeing absolutely she was on it. Let's
• 11:37
Speaker 1: see we have farewell tours from Megadeath. Apparently Megadeth fan.
• 11:42
Speaker 1: I have to say I did not know that. Thank you.
• 11:46
Speaker 1: I love a Sheltered Life. You need to make sure that
• 11:48
Speaker 1: you find Megadeth. Leonard Skinnered. I'll go ahead.
• 11:50
Speaker 2: I'm yeah, so Megadeth if you are a fan. Sunday
• 11:53
Speaker 2: Night's seven o'clock. Charlie Kendall, a good buddy of mine,
• 11:55
Speaker 2: does Metal Shop. It's full hour of interviews, all the
• 11:58
Speaker 2: old stuff like Pantera, Mega Death and now all that stuff.
• 12:02
Speaker 2: Sunday Night, seven o'clock on the Mountain. You can catch that.
• 12:04
Speaker 1: It's crazy. Is I go back and listen to stuff
• 12:07
Speaker 1: like uh, Megadeath now and back when they first came out,
• 12:11
Speaker 1: Like I was like it was noise to me. Like
• 12:13
Speaker 1: now I listened to its like, man, there was a dude.
• 12:16
  Speaker 1: It's good. Yeah, it's like it's not what I remember
• 12:18
Speaker 1: when I was a kid. Like I've listened to actually
• 12:20
Speaker 1: quite a bit of Mega Death in the last couple
• 12:22
Speaker 1: of weeks, and it's like it's it's not on your playlist,
• 12:24
Speaker 1: it is? It is? It is now, Judas Priest, how
• 12:27
Speaker 1: about Jesis Priest coming out? Definitely, Jethro Tall is going
• 12:29
Speaker 1: to be on tour.
• 12:31
Speaker 2: Oh, Like I like Tall, but I don't know if
• 12:34
Speaker 2: I would make the play today. Yeah, after all that
• 12:39
Speaker 2: chain smoking, right, let's.
• 12:42
Speaker 1: See anybody else in here that looks interesting.
• 12:43
  Speaker 3: Uh.
• 12:44
Speaker 1: We've had Alice Cooper on Hotline before. I'd love to
• 12:46
Speaker 1: go see Alice Cooper us.
• 12:47
  Speaker 4: Uh.
• 12:48
Speaker 2: He's one of the ones I met in the eighties.
• 12:51
  Speaker 1: Uh.
• 12:51
Speaker 2: He played a show when I was working in Providence
• 12:54
  Speaker 2: and uh uh.
• 12:55
Speaker 1: Middle of the night.
• 12:56
Speaker 2: He's another one who pulled up at the station knocking
• 12:59
Speaker 2: on the way and it was during his poison tour
• 13:02
Speaker 2: and a nice guy.
• 13:04
Speaker 1: We had him on Hotline. Yeah, and we had a
• 13:06
Speaker 1: two part interview with him and Dave Weekly. It's a
• 13:08
Speaker 1: very gifted interviewer. So he got Alice into things that
• 13:12
Speaker 1: he hadn't talked about forever. Had him talking about leaving
• 13:14
Speaker 1: Little keel Wells for his wife and all these different things,
• 13:17
Speaker 1: all these great stories, right, and Alice's producer after we
• 13:21
Speaker 1: ended the interview, Alice's producer called me back. It was like, Man,
• 13:24
Speaker 1: Alice had such a great time. He's still here. Now,
• 13:27
Speaker 1: do you want to connect and let him cut some
• 13:28
Speaker 1: liners for your show because he would love to do it. Yeah,
• 13:31
Speaker 1: what's the coolest thing? And he did and I still
• 13:34
Speaker 1: have him. It was really one of the coolest things.
• 13:35
Speaker 1: Another fellow Detroit ter Yeah, there you go man, that's right. Yeah,
• 13:38
Speaker 1: you got to stick together. Although I'm not from Detroit,
• 13:40
Speaker 1: I was born in Charlotte, Michigan, and lived a decent
• 13:43
Speaker 1: amount of time near Detroit, so I hear where you're
• 13:44
Speaker 1: coming from. Well, Steve, I appreciate your time. Man, I'll

Speaker 1: I appreciate Steve Animal being with us here in the
• 16:53
Speaker 1: first segment. Steven Allen Adams is joining us now from
• 16:56
Speaker 1: Augden Newspapers, and we have plenty of things we're gonna
• 16:58
Speaker 1: talk about. How you doing today?
• 16:59
Speaker 10: Man a not too.
• 17:00
Speaker 11: I don't know if he saw the breaking news that
• 17:03
Speaker 11: just came out right at nine a m. But you
• 17:05
Speaker 11: know we're gonna be talking about sort of legislative session preview.
• 17:10
Speaker 11: But the longest serving state senator, Senator Donna Bowley of
• 17:15
Speaker 11: Pleasants County Republican ninety, is resigning. And I just talked
• 17:21
Speaker 11: to her on the phone. I got heads up about
• 17:23
Speaker 11: ten minutes before to put out the press release, talked
• 17:25
Speaker 11: to her on the phone. You know, naturally, she's having
• 17:28
Speaker 11: some health issues being older. She has to go to
• 17:30
Speaker 11: physical therapy up in Morgantown, and she is choosing her health.
• 17:37
Speaker 11: She can't do both travel to Morgantown for physical therapy
• 17:39
Speaker 11: and travel here Monday through Friday or however long for
• 17:43
Speaker 11: the floor sessions and committee meetings and that sort of thing.
• 17:46
Speaker 11: So she's she says, she's just gonna do the smart
• 17:49
Speaker 11: move and go ahead and resign and let the next
• 17:51
  Speaker 11: generation take over.
• 17:53
Speaker 1: Wow, that's really amazing. We've seen a couple of those recently, then,
• 17:55
Speaker 1: I guess, right, of long standing folks that are bowing out.
• 17:58
Speaker 10: Oh yeah, a couple couple change for sure.
• 18:01
Speaker 11: But in the case of Senator Donald Bowley again ninety
• 18:04
Speaker 11: appointed by former Lake Governor Archmore nineteen eighty five, at
• 18:09
Speaker 11: one point was the only Republican and the thirty four
• 18:12
  Speaker 11: member state Senate.
• 18:14
  Speaker 1: Wow.
• 18:15
Speaker 11: Tech I mean technically she was a member of every
• 18:18
Speaker 11: committee because she had to have a Republican on all
• 18:20
Speaker 11: of them, so she could go to any committee she
• 18:22
Speaker 11: wanted to, depending on what the was on the agenda
• 18:25
Speaker 11: or whatnot. She could go to all of them because
• 18:27
Speaker 11: she was technically a member of all of them. And
• 18:30
Speaker 11: she's had different leadership positions. She was the longtime Republican
• 18:33
Speaker 11: National Committee woman in the state for probably more than
• 18:38
Speaker 11: a decade, and just and I feel a little bit biased,
• 18:43
Speaker 11: but I've known I'm from Pleasants County. So when I
• 18:46
Speaker 11: was in high school, she worked a lot with me
• 18:49
Speaker 11: and some of our young people that were interested in
• 18:52
Speaker 11: politics and talking about politics.
• 18:55
Speaker 10: So I go way back with her.
• 18:57
Speaker 11: And so it's a huge institutetional loss for the state
• 19:02
Speaker 11: Senate for sure. But I think you know, they'll submit
• 19:07
Speaker 11: some names to the governor, three names of the governor
• 19:09
Speaker 11: to find a replacement. I've been told to dell Gate,
• 19:12
Speaker 11: Trent and Barnhart from up there might be probably a
• 19:14
Speaker 11: favorite for that storied career.
• 19:17
Speaker 1: And there's something to be said to that you just
• 19:20
Speaker 1: mentioned there, how she had outreached that kind of harvested
• 19:25
Speaker 1: some of your interests when you were younger in politics
• 19:27
Speaker 1: and different things like that. I'm not saying that there's
• 19:29
Speaker 1: not that level of engagement anymore, but it's something that
• 19:31
Speaker 1: we want to make sure that we continue, that we
• 19:33
Speaker 1: have access to our politicians, that we have people that
• 19:35
Speaker 1: are on the ground level talking to kids and students,
• 19:38
Speaker 1: not in a political raw raw your party this you're
• 19:41
Speaker 1: part of that, but in a very civic, engaged, responsible way,
• 19:45
Speaker 1: because kids need to learn these things and get engaged
• 19:47
Speaker 1: and get interested in a non I guess partisan manner.
• 19:51
Speaker 1: They just need to be engaged.
• 19:52
Speaker 11: It doesn't happen as much as it used to, for sure, unfortunately.
• 19:57
Speaker 11: And and there's sort of a that I feel like
• 20:00
Speaker 11: it's that gets filled and it gets filled with say,
• 20:03
Speaker 11: TikTok information or social media, and I think that's why
• 20:07
Speaker 11: you see a lot of sort of bad things. You
• 20:09
Speaker 11: see some of the French partisanship that you see out there,
• 20:14
Speaker 11: and it's driven by social media. But when you have
• 20:17
Speaker 11: human interaction with somebody who like Senator Bowley, who is
• 20:23
Speaker 11: a longtime Republican conservative, more in a traditional sense than
• 20:27
Speaker 11: sort of what we currently think of conservatism, it makes
• 20:31
Speaker 11: a difference in people's lives and people can kind of
• 20:33
Speaker 11: see that sort of stuff and inspires people not always
• 20:35
Speaker 11: to go into Republican politics, for sure. I mean I
• 20:38
Speaker 11: went into journalism, but it does make a difference.
• 20:42
Speaker 1: I think this is kind of a related story before
• 20:43
Speaker 1: we get to the legislative stuff. A hardcorn messaging. Of course,
• 20:46
Speaker 1: I have to speak to you, as being a print
• 20:48
Speaker 1: journalist about the closing of the Pittsburgh newspapers and just
• 20:55
Speaker 1: from a I mean, for one thing, it's been around
• 20:57
Speaker 1: for over two undred years on this hundred fifty years.
• 20:59
Speaker 1: As it goes on and you look at a city
• 21:00
Speaker 1: the size of Pittsburgh now without any daily newspaper at all.
• 21:04
Speaker 1: And we were just talking about daily interactions from maybe
• 21:06
Speaker 1: politicians to students or whatever it might be. But you
• 21:09
Speaker 1: zoom out just a little bit and now suddenly you
• 21:12
Speaker 1: don't have any on the ground, I mean daily on
• 21:15
Speaker 1: the ground, residents of Pittsburgh that live there, that cover there,
• 21:20
Speaker 1: that that run the beats. You don't have any of
• 21:23
Speaker 1: that on the ground, touching of the stories. And man,
• 21:27
Speaker 1: that is where misinformation lives and where exactly less information lives.
• 21:30
Speaker 11: Oh yeah, again another situation where nature a bores a vacuum,
• 21:34
Speaker 11: so it's going to get filled by some thing or
• 21:37
Speaker 11: some one. So Pittsburgh Postcussette's not going to be out
• 21:40
Speaker 11: there on the ground covering things.
• 21:42
  Speaker 10: Somebody's going to.
• 21:43
Speaker 11: Now it could be someone that falls good journalistic practices
• 21:47
Speaker 11: and things of that nature.
• 21:49
Speaker 10: I mean some bloggers do.
• 21:50
Speaker 11: I used to teacho in journalism across the country, so
• 21:54
Speaker 11: I mean there are people out there to do that,
• 21:55
Speaker 11: so good work. But then you got some people that again,
• 22:00
Speaker 11: we'll fill that vacuum with misinformation and conspiracy theories and
• 22:05
Speaker 11: just false information. And so yeah, you need. Some institutions
• 22:11
Speaker 11: are not bad things, and the loss of the Pittsburgh
• 22:15
Speaker 11: Post is as huge institution that it will take the
• 22:17
Speaker 11: city a while to recover from.
• 22:19
Speaker 1: Yeah, we're losing our media quicker than we can gain
• 22:22
Speaker 1: the media literacy to replace them. And that's there's gonna
• 22:24
Speaker 1: be a huge gap with the people that consume media there.
• 22:27
Speaker 1: Moving on from that and talking about what's going to
• 22:29
Speaker 1: happen here in the upcoming legislative session, I don't know
• 22:32
Speaker 1: what do you think that the tops is the tox
• 22:34
Speaker 1: braw the top story going in or what's the top
• 22:36
  Speaker 1: story you think?
• 22:37
  Speaker 11: Oh?
• 22:37
Speaker 10: Man, Well, I think for sure economic development.
• 22:41
Speaker 11: At the House Republican Caucus back in December laid out
• 22:44
Speaker 11: a pretty extensive agenda for things that they want to
• 22:47
Speaker 11: do to try to continue to improve the economy, grow jobs,
• 22:52
Speaker 11: create a cut red tape, create a better environment. So
• 22:56
Speaker 11: and the last I've heard from some sources that the
• 22:59
Speaker 11: Governor is a least supportive broadly of the House's agenda
• 23:02
Speaker 11: on that. So there could be some movement and purchase
• 23:05
Speaker 11: on that. Governor did unveil plans for another five percent
• 23:10
Speaker 11: to ten percent cut in personal income tax rates. That
• 23:14
Speaker 11: might be a harder push, mind you, especially in the
• 23:17
Speaker 11: Republican caucuses over in the House, in the Senate. They're
• 23:20
Speaker 11: never going to say they don't want to cut or
• 23:22
Speaker 11: phase out the personal income tax.
• 23:23
  Speaker 10: They all do.
• 23:24
Speaker 11: But I think some want to leave in place to
• 23:27
Speaker 11: mechanism to trigger mechanism that's already there to slowly kind
• 23:31
Speaker 11: of do that based on the how well our economy
• 23:33
Speaker 11: is doing. I think people want to see that still
• 23:36
Speaker 11: in place. They may give the governor some form of
• 23:39
Speaker 11: tax cut or tax reform, maybe on the corporate net
• 23:43
Speaker 11: income tax side of things, so you'll see some movement
• 23:46
Speaker 11: for that for sure. I'd say they walk out of
• 23:49
Speaker 11: the session with a tax cut or a taxi form package,
• 23:52
Speaker 11: just some story. It may not be what the governor
• 23:54
Speaker 11: necessarily wants well see. And then of course there's a
• 23:57
Speaker 11: big push on child welfare issues. The governor had a
• 23:59
Speaker 11: press conference earlier this week about that, pushing a few
• 24:03
Speaker 11: things a to try to bring some of our foster
• 24:05
Speaker 11: children that are in out of state placement back into
• 24:07
Speaker 11: the state ways, to be proactive, to try to help
• 24:11
Speaker 11: at risk children before they become another CPS. Theistic things
• 24:17
Speaker 11: that ultimately would a help those families, but also save
• 24:20
Speaker 11: the states and money because that's very expensive to do,
• 24:23
Speaker 11: so those are going to be some of the priorities
• 24:25
  Speaker 11: going forward.
• 24:26
Speaker 1: I talked to an a new incoming representative yesterday who
• 24:32
Speaker 1: on the Republican side, and he was very hopeful that
• 24:36
Speaker 1: it's going to be all economic development or mostly economic development,
• 24:40
Speaker 1: and that the socialist is shoes are kind of left
• 24:42
Speaker 1: on the back burner. I fear that, as much as
• 24:46
Speaker 1: we hope that that there's going to be something that
• 24:48
Speaker 1: comes up that sucks the oxygen out of the room. Yeah,
• 24:51
Speaker 1: I don't know what it could be. This time around.
• 24:53
Speaker 1: There always seems to be something, But I fear of that.
• 24:55
Speaker 10: It's an election year.
• 24:56
Speaker 11: It's an election year, and of course now no no
• 25:00
Speaker 11: offense to my Democratic friends, but a lot of your
• 25:03
Speaker 11: primaries are won in law elections, won and loss in
• 25:06
Speaker 11: the primary, a lot of Republicans challenging other Republicans, and
• 25:11
Speaker 11: I think it will be inevitable that someone will go
• 25:13
Speaker 11: to a red meat conservative social issue to try to
• 25:18
Speaker 11: get to the right of their opponent and election. So
• 25:21
Speaker 11: I'd say it's bound to happen. But I do think
• 25:26
Speaker 11: especially recent polling over the last year, including the West
• 25:29
Speaker 11: Virginia poll. I think even people that do kind of
• 25:32
Speaker 11: maybe have some support for some of those social issues,
• 25:35
Speaker 11: even though there's not a whole lot left to do
• 25:36
Speaker 11: in the state of West Virginia, it's a conservative state already.
• 25:41
Speaker 11: They want to see more focus on the jobs issue.
• 25:43
Speaker 11: I know affordability has become sort of the key buzzword now,
• 25:46
Speaker 11: but I mean it's a good catch all for the
• 25:49
Speaker 11: issues of inflation and higher prices at the grocery store
• 25:52
Speaker 11: and other things. People want to see that brought down
• 25:55
Speaker 11: electricity rates and prices. I mean those were still going up.
• 25:59
Speaker 11: People want to see that mitigated. So I do think
• 26:03
Speaker 11: that the economic issues should win out, probably before some
• 26:06
Speaker 11: of the social issues. But we will see something.
• 26:08
  Speaker 1: Uh, let's if you don't mind, let's take a break,
• 26:10
Speaker 1: if you can hang with me for just a couple
• 26:12
Speaker 1: of minutes. On the other side of the break, have
• 26:13
Speaker 1: a couple more questions for you before we cut you loose.
• 26:15
Speaker 1: Steven Allen Adams is with us this morning from Augun Newspapers,
• 26:18
Speaker 1: just talking a little bit about what's happening in the session.
• 26:20

Speaker 1: Your career starts here. Steven Allen Adams is with me
• 29:30
Speaker 1: from Autuga Newspapers just for a couple of minutes here
• 29:32
Speaker 1: in this segment before we move on to the end
• 29:34
Speaker 1: of the show. We were talking a little bit during
• 29:36
Speaker 1: the break about data centers, and I think that that's
• 29:39
Speaker 1: an kind of an interesting place that we're going to
• 29:41
Speaker 1: explore because there is opportunity there. We see these coming
• 29:45
Speaker 1: up all over the country, but it seems like as
• 29:46
Speaker 1: quickly as developmental opportunities coming up, the pushback when that
• 29:50
Speaker 1: opportunity is coming up, and that's going to be something
• 29:52
Speaker 1: that we'll deal with eventually here in West Virginia.
• 29:55
  Speaker 10: Yeah, of course.
• 29:56
Speaker 11: You know, we pass a bill during the last session
• 29:57
Speaker 11: House spilled twenty fourteen to allow for these data center
• 30:01
Speaker 11: districts and micro grid districts to power those data centers.
• 30:05
Speaker 11: Now the bill is in effect, but they're still working
• 30:09
Speaker 11: on approval for some of the rules within that, so
• 30:12
Speaker 11: that's still pending now. Of course, what's made headlines in
• 30:15
Speaker 11: West Virginia have been the data center proposal believe in
• 30:18
Speaker 11: Mingo and up and Tucker up in Davis and that
• 30:22
Speaker 11: sort of thing. Those are getting big pushback, even though
• 30:25
Speaker 11: I think the air permits were approved by DP for those.
• 30:29
Speaker 11: So a lot of eyeballs on that, and there is
• 30:31
Speaker 11: some heartburn among some lawmakers. Even Center president Randy Smith,
• 30:34
Speaker 11: I think said in an article not too long ago
• 30:37
Speaker 11: that he kind of regretted pushing that through. So I
• 30:41
Speaker 11: think some lawmakers will push back against making any tweaks
• 30:44
Speaker 11: because it hasn't been implemented, so we don't know what's
• 30:46
Speaker 11: broken with it yet, and I do think there'll be
• 30:49
Speaker 11: other lawmakers that do want to curtail the sort of
• 30:54
Speaker 11: growth of data centers before they become a big thing.
• 30:57
Speaker 11: And we really don't have significant ones, if any major
• 31:00
Speaker 11: ones in the state now, but there is some heartburn
• 31:03
  Speaker 11: about it.
• 31:04
Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll see how that is. I think it's going
• 31:05
Speaker 1: to be maybe not in twenty six, maybe in a
• 31:07
Speaker 1: year or two down the road, but that's something we're
• 31:09
Speaker 1: definitely going to be tackling here before we cut you loose.
• 31:11
Speaker 1: I've heard pretty good chance of teachers and state employees
• 31:15
Speaker 1: probably getting raises, or at least that's going to be
• 31:17
Speaker 1: one of the main portions on the docket. I guess.
• 31:20
Speaker 11: Yeah, Well, the governor has said he's going to do
• 31:21
Speaker 11: a public polley pay race, so that would include teachers,
• 31:23
Speaker 11: state police, anyone paid out of the general revenue budget,
• 31:27
Speaker 11: and the executive branch things of that nature. We don't
• 31:30
Speaker 11: know what percentage of that is. Traditionally they've done five percent.
• 31:34
Speaker 11: There's a three percent race that's actually built into future
• 31:38
Speaker 11: budget assumptions, so it could be three percent, it could
• 31:40
Speaker 11: be five percent. You got some people like State Treasurer
• 31:44
Speaker 11: Larry Pack that want to go further and focus specifically
• 31:47
Speaker 11: on teachers and school service personnel, especially with teachers, raise
• 31:50
Speaker 11: them up to fifty thousand as a minimum, and then
• 31:55
Speaker 11: raise experienced teachers up by two thousand. We'll see, but
• 32:00
Speaker 11: I think they got to take a crack at doing
• 32:02
Speaker 11: something because, I mean, school systems are having big financial
• 32:05
Speaker 11: problems and a lot of that is trying to hold
• 32:07
Speaker 11: on to experienced teachers.
• 32:09
  Speaker 1: Yeah. I have to tell you, as a it's it's
• 32:11
  Speaker 1: an interesting dilemma out there. I'm a I have a
• 32:13
Speaker 1: seven year old child and we do homeschool, and and
• 32:17
Speaker 1: I don't have like an overly negative or positive I
• 32:21
Speaker 1: think you know, homeschool is homeschooling. Whatever you whatever you
• 32:23
Speaker 1: do with it, you're in homeschool exactly.
• 32:26
Speaker 11: School parents, I mean, you can't blanket label them, but I.
• 32:30
Speaker 1: Will say that I don't feel I necessarily have the
• 32:32
Speaker 1: options for public school that that I would like to
• 32:35
Speaker 1: have if like, eventually, you know, I'm not a teacher.
• 32:37
Speaker 1: Eventually I can't teach, you know, beyond certain levels, or
• 32:40
Speaker 1: my wife can't teach me on certain levels. We can
• 32:42
Speaker 1: go to the charter route or do something like that
• 32:43
Speaker 1: from our house of course, but if we wanted to
• 32:45
Speaker 1: go into public schools, I mean, there was some concern
• 32:48
Speaker 1: as a parent out there, like are the schools when
• 32:50
Speaker 1: we remain open? Is it going to be in the
• 32:51
Speaker 1: middle of the consolidation, what's the student to teacher ratio
• 32:54
Speaker 1: is going to be?
• 32:55
  Speaker 11: Like?
• 32:55
Speaker 1: What all these things along on both It's exactly true.
• 32:58
Speaker 1: You know, all of these things fact into that as
• 33:00
Speaker 1: a parent, and they kind of figure that out somehow.
• 33:02
Speaker 11: In this state, we need to make major changes to
• 33:05
Speaker 11: the school aid formula. We'll see if they try to
• 33:07
Speaker 11: do that this session. It's a heavy lift. They almost
• 33:10
Speaker 11: really have to do it in their own special session
• 33:12
Speaker 11: that focuses on that because it's so complicated. But I mean,
• 33:15
Speaker 11: there's so many schools closing consolidating morse, parents are going
• 33:20
Speaker 11: into school choice, which is their choice to do, but
• 33:24
Speaker 11: schools need to be public. Schools need to be allowed
• 33:26
Speaker 11: to compete better with that, and right now their hands
• 33:29
Speaker 11: are kind of tied, especially by the type of money
• 33:31
Speaker 11: to get from the state. Not the only funding they
• 33:34
Speaker 11: get to get, of course, property taxes from counties and
• 33:36
Speaker 11: bonds and levies that sort of thing, but school ad
• 33:38
Speaker 11: formula is a big parlad and they got to figure
• 33:40
Speaker 11: out how to fix that.
• 33:41
Speaker 1: Last question for you, you've been doing this for a
• 33:43
Speaker 1: long time. As you get ready to cover the legislative
• 33:45
Speaker 1: session that starts next week, is there any anything that's
• 33:48
Speaker 1: under the surface of bill or something that you've to
• 33:51
Speaker 1: You don't have to give us any scoop, but anything
• 33:53
Speaker 1: that you fear or not fear, but that you think
• 33:55
Speaker 1: that might be a big story that not everybody's talking
• 33:57
  Speaker 1: about right now.
• 33:59
  Speaker 10: Nothing yet.
• 34:00
Speaker 11: I mean, the problem with a legislative session in an
• 34:03
Speaker 11: election year is they could either play really safe or
• 34:08
Speaker 11: there could be some real drop dead fights on the
• 34:11
Speaker 11: floor and you don't really known till you get into it.
• 34:15
Speaker 11: It could go either way. Election years, people do like
• 34:20
Speaker 11: to play it safe, so maybe this might be easy peasy,
• 34:24
Speaker 11: but I mean, sessions are unpredictable. You got to you
• 34:27
Speaker 11: literally have to take them day by day for the
• 34:29
Speaker 11: entire sixty day period.
• 34:30
  Speaker 10: So we'll we'll see. It'll be a roller coaster.
• 34:32
Speaker 1: There's some been with some wild things. I have Hoppy
• 34:34
Speaker 1: coming on next and I'm looking forward. I want to
• 34:36
Speaker 1: talk to him more about a history of us broadcasting
• 34:38
Speaker 1: live from over there.
• 34:38
  Speaker 9: Man.
• 34:39
Speaker 1: It's just got some crazy things that's happened over there
• 34:41
  Speaker 1: over the years.
• 34:42
Speaker 10: I no doubt Hoppy has some great stories on that.
• 34:44
Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm sure we'll get there. Uh, Steven, I appreciate
• 34:46
Speaker 1: your time coming in man. I think this is the
• 34:47
Speaker 1: first time we've ever been on the air again.

• 37:57
Speaker 1: I'd like to bring on to the air now the
• 37:59
Speaker 1: form our host of talk Line, mister Hoppy Kerchival is
• 38:02
Speaker 1: joining us this morning. Happy, good morning. How you doing
• 38:04
  Speaker 1: this morning?
• 38:05
Speaker 16: Good morning, Coop, I'm well, how are you.
• 38:06
Speaker 1: I'm doing very well as well. Thanks for coming on.
• 38:08
Speaker 1: I really appreciate that. And in this time of year,
• 38:11
Speaker 1: by the way, Happy New Year to.
• 38:12
Speaker 16: You and to you sir, thank you.
• 38:14
Speaker 1: This time of year, of course, here in Charleston, we're
• 38:17
Speaker 1: always getting ready for Metro News to h to relocate
• 38:20
Speaker 1: talk Line down here for broadcasting live from the Capitol,
• 38:23
Speaker 1: and of course uh TJ and Dave are going to
• 38:26
Speaker 1: start doing that next year. I wanted to talk to
• 38:27
Speaker 1: you for a couple of minutes about this though, because
• 38:30
Speaker 1: of course when Talklin first started decided to go live
• 38:35
Speaker 1: to the Capitol, you were part of that decision and
• 38:37
Speaker 1: when we started doing that. Could you tell us a
• 38:39
Speaker 1: little bit about why we decided to start broadcasting live
• 38:42
Speaker 1: from there and then how it worked out over the years,
• 38:44
Speaker 1: because I know that we've covered a lot of stories
• 38:46
Speaker 1: that broke in real time while we were on the air.
• 38:49
Speaker 16: Absolutely, you know, Coop, what happens to the West Virginia legislature,
• 38:53
Speaker 16: whether you pay attention to politics or don't or like
• 38:56
Speaker 16: it or don't like it, what happens there typically effect
• 39:00
Speaker 16: the entire state. So it's important what goes on over
• 39:03
Speaker 16: those sixty days, what laws are passed, what lalls are changed,
• 39:07
Speaker 16: what bills don't pass that is relevant to the entire state.
• 39:11
Speaker 16: That's the first thing The second thing is it is
• 39:15
  Speaker 16: a unique setting, and you've been up there. It's a
• 39:17
Speaker 16: unique setting, and that here are the most powerful individuals
• 39:22
Speaker 16: in West Virginia. The lawmakers, the governor, the Board of
• 39:27
Speaker 16: Public Works, the department heads. They're all there. They're all there,
• 39:35
Speaker 16: and they're all walking around. Then you have access to them.
• 39:39
Speaker 16: So it is the one time during the year, over
• 39:43
Speaker 16: those sixty days where all these people are typically in
• 39:46
Speaker 16: one place and the public and the media have access
• 39:51
Speaker 16: to them. And that's another part is the public is
• 39:53
Speaker 16: that look, anybody can come in, right, you got to
• 39:57
Speaker 16: go through the metal detector, but anybody can come in
• 40:00
Speaker 16: be there in the upper rotunda where wall makers come
• 40:04
Speaker 16: and go and department heads come and go, and you
• 40:07
Speaker 16: can have access to them. You can buttonhole them and
• 40:11
Speaker 16: ask them something. And also any number of groups will
• 40:16
Speaker 16: be there over the next sixty days and they will
• 40:19
Speaker 16: set up booze and to tell you about what they
• 40:22
Speaker 16: do and what they're involved in. So it is a
• 40:25
Speaker 16: microcosm of everything that happens in West Virginia, all in
• 40:29
Speaker 16: one place for sixty days. I think it's very unique.
• 40:31
Speaker 1: And it's amazing. As you said, I've been up there
• 40:34
Speaker 1: providing some small assistance from time to time or to observe.
• 40:37
Speaker 1: And the energy is immense, I mean, and whatever you
• 40:41
Speaker 1: think about what you can pick up like sort of
• 40:43
Speaker 1: psychosomatically or whatever it might be. When you walk into
• 40:46
Speaker 1: that room and all those people are there and the
• 40:48
Speaker 1: business of the days being done, and all the different
• 40:50
Speaker 1: media and stuff is around, it literally feels like one
• 40:54
Speaker 1: of those moments that you can feel the energy that's
• 40:56
Speaker 1: in the room and the things that are happening.
• 40:58
Speaker 16: Well, you're exactly right. There is an energy to it.
• 41:01
Speaker 16: Which it's funny because at the end of the session
• 41:03
Speaker 16: there's the energy because it's the end of the session,
• 41:05
Speaker 16: what's going to happen, but also that people are worn out,
• 41:07
Speaker 16: you know, they're tired of it. But there is an
• 41:10
Speaker 16: energy to it. There's an excitement to it, and if
• 41:14
Speaker 16: you're interested at all in policy or politics, it's a
• 41:18
Speaker 16: fascinating place to be. And I understand that not everybody
• 41:22
Speaker 16: can be there, which is one of the reasons, one
• 41:23
Speaker 16: of the big reasons the talk line is there because
• 41:26
Speaker 16: it can be your representative. It can talk about policy
• 41:30
Speaker 16: that's going on, it can talk about the debates and
• 41:32
Speaker 16: also just give you a sense of what is happening
• 41:35
Speaker 16: at the Capitol. I really think that us being there
• 41:38
Speaker 16: along with other reporters from other news organizations, I think
• 41:41
  Speaker 16: it's invaluable.
• 41:42
Speaker 1: And the way that and as being part of this
• 41:46
Speaker 1: media company that I am and I've been you know,
• 41:48
Speaker 1: I've been here since twenty ten, not nearly as long
• 41:50
Speaker 1: as what a lot of people here, But I have
• 41:52
Speaker 1: great pride in what we're able to do with this
• 41:55
Speaker 1: from the standpoint is that we present the information, whether
• 41:58
Speaker 1: it's you at the Capitol before or teaching they've starting,
• 42:01
Speaker 1: we present the information, we bring the people on that
• 42:03
Speaker 1: people are listening. We're not trying to steer the ship
• 42:06
Speaker 1: in this regard in any way. We're just giving access,
• 42:09
Speaker 1: just like the listener was sitting there, and we're trying
• 42:11
Speaker 1: to sit there in their stead, ask the questions that
• 42:13
Speaker 1: a listener might ask, get the people that the listener
• 42:15
Speaker 1: might be interested in that they may not hear from
• 42:17
Speaker 1: because they can't sit in community meetings, they can't go
• 42:19
Speaker 1: to these different things. And it gives access to people
• 42:21
Speaker 1: to listen to these important decision makers in our state
• 42:24
Speaker 1: that they wouldn't normally have otherwise. I think that that
• 42:27
Speaker 1: is a massive, massive service.
• 42:30
Speaker 16: Well that's a fair observation. Let's take, for example, if
• 42:34
Speaker 16: there's a discussion and Governor Morrissey has said he wants
• 42:37
Speaker 16: to lower taxes, So let's say that that proposal is
• 42:41
Speaker 16: up for discussion. Well, you can get lawmakers on from
• 42:44
Speaker 16: both sides and say what are the pros and cons?
• 42:46
Speaker 16: Or let's say it's about changing the vaccine wall. You
• 42:48
Speaker 16: can get lawmakers on and policymakers and others and interested
• 42:53
Speaker 16: citizens and talk about both sides or all sides of
• 42:56
Speaker 16: an issue. So I have found it when I hosted
• 42:59
Speaker 16: the show, and I think Dave and TJ would agree,
• 43:02
Speaker 16: is that it's educational for an informative for the public,
• 43:05
Speaker 16: but also for the host. I mean, I learned a
• 43:08
Speaker 16: ton by being there, and there's no substitute from a
• 43:11
Speaker 16: media standpoint, there's no substitute to being there and being
• 43:16
Speaker 16: next to it. And also, and this is kind of
• 43:19
Speaker 16: a guilty pleasure, and those of us in the media,
• 43:22
Speaker 16: I think are all a little bit of this. We
• 43:24
Speaker 16: love the gossip too, you know. And there's no secrets
• 43:28
Speaker 16: in the Capitol, right, I mean, you pigeonhole somebody. The
• 43:31
Speaker 16: people used to tease me because I'd pigeon I'd grab
• 43:34
Speaker 16: people and say, what are you hearing? What do you know?
• 43:36
Speaker 16: What's going on? And it may change from one end
• 43:39
Speaker 16: of the Capitol to the other, but it's it's it's
• 43:42
  Speaker 16: great drama as well, So I think it's a I
• 43:46
Speaker 16: think it's just very unique and I'm glad we're going
• 43:49
Speaker 16: to be there with Dave and TJ and Brad Macklin
• 43:51
Speaker 16: will be there and other media as well who are
• 43:54
Speaker 16: representing there. So I think it's all good.
• 43:56
Speaker 1: Yeah, I love telling the stories. Before I cut you loose,
• 43:59
Speaker 1: I have to. I have to touch on just briefly
• 44:00
Speaker 1: one of the most monumental moments that I can remember
• 44:03
Speaker 1: on this and that was I know you've talked about
• 44:05
Speaker 1: it many times, but the teacher strike back in twenty eighteen,
• 44:08
Speaker 1: as far as of a confluence of the immediacy of
• 44:12
Speaker 1: a breaking story and for there being such great representation
• 44:16
Speaker 1: for a radio broadcast to do it, because you had
• 44:18
Speaker 1: the chanting and the rotunda and the thing going on.
• 44:20
Speaker 1: I mean, you could barely hear yourself in it, but
• 44:22
Speaker 1: in the moment and the way all that stuff kind
• 44:23
Speaker 1: of played out, and how that was such a fast moving,
• 44:26
Speaker 1: breaking story that we were on the entire time. That
• 44:29
Speaker 1: is just one of those moments where stories and things
• 44:31
Speaker 1: converged together where we were in the perfect place at
• 44:34
Speaker 1: the perfect time to be able to follow that as
• 44:36
Speaker 1: the story was developing.
• 44:38
Speaker 16: Yeah, that was an amazing time. There were literally thousands
• 44:41
Speaker 16: of teachers and staff that were jammed into the capitol.
• 44:44
Speaker 16: You could barely move and the capital is a pretty
• 44:46
Speaker 16: big place, and the ambiance, I mean, you could share
• 44:50
Speaker 16: it and you could see it, and that was a
• 44:53
Speaker 16: true representation of what was going on at that moment,
• 44:57
Speaker 16: and that was powerful then I think enabled people across
• 45:00
Speaker 16: the state to see and hear and steal what the
• 45:04
Speaker 16: dynamic was as policy was being made concerning what the
• 45:08
Speaker 16: uh you know, what benefits and pay raises or no
• 45:11
Speaker 16: pay raises the teachers were going to get. And that's
• 45:13
Speaker 16: the bit, that's the that's the pro of being there,
• 45:16
Speaker 16: of being there when all this is unfolding.
• 45:18
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's absolutely amazing to watch them, to watch in
• 45:20
Speaker 1: real time. And there's going to be something's going to
• 45:22
Speaker 1: come up this session. I have no doubt that's going
• 45:24
Speaker 1: to be a big story. And that's what I want
• 45:25
Speaker 1: to get you out of here on just I know
• 45:28
Speaker 1: you still observe you right about these things all the time.
• 45:30
Speaker 1: You're still part of this. If is there anything in
• 45:32
Speaker 1: this session that you're following that you think is an
• 45:35
Speaker 1: interesting throw line that you want to follow to see
• 45:38
Speaker 1: how it comes out at the end. Look, what what
• 45:39
Speaker 1: is it that you're picking up one that you want
• 45:41
Speaker 1: to see how it concludes?
• 45:42
Speaker 16: Sure, a couple of things. One is, you know the
• 45:44
Speaker 16: Governy's proposed to tax cut. Obviously that will be big.
• 45:47
Speaker 16: What happens with vaccines if anything. And also the third category,
• 45:51
Speaker 16: which is probably my favorite, is the stuff that comes
• 45:54
Speaker 16: out of the blue. There's always something that comes out
• 45:57
Speaker 16: of the blue and takes on a life of its
• 46:00
Speaker 16: own and before you know what, everybody's talking about it
• 46:04
Speaker 16: and nobody saw it coming. And that's always one of
• 46:06
Speaker 16: my favorites. So always be on the lookout for that.
• 46:09
Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm looking. You're absolutely right. And then sometimes it
• 46:12
Speaker 1: could be silly. Sometimes it could be you know, a
• 46:14
Speaker 1: lot more serious than what you had in mind. But
• 46:16
Speaker 1: there's always something that you're not expecting that comes out
• 46:18
Speaker 1: and we'll be there for it regardless of what it is.
• 46:21
Speaker 16: That's great. I'm glad that Metro just continues to make
• 46:24
Speaker 16: that commitment. Dave and TJ are going to be there.
• 46:26
Speaker 16: I think that's outstanding, so and I appreciate you focusing
• 46:28
Speaker 16: on that this morning.
• 46:29
Speaker 1: Coop, Yeah, absolutely happy. I appreciate you taking some time and
• 46:31
Speaker 1: joining us. I know you're you on hotline a little
• 46:33
Speaker 1: or talk line a little later on today too.
• 46:34
Speaker 16: I am eleven oh six. There we go, sem I retired.
• 46:37
Speaker 16: They bring the old guy back out when they need something.
• 46:39
Speaker 1: So yeah, more Hoppy at eleven oh six on talk line. Hoppy.
• 46:41
Speaker 1: I appreciate your time again today and we'll talk to
• 46:43
Speaker 1: you later on. It's my pleasure. Thanks Coup, Thanks a bunch.
• 46:46
Speaker 1: That's a hoppy Curchiable the retired semi retired dean of
• 46:50
Speaker 1: broadcasting here in Western Tain. I always love checking in
• 46:52
Speaker 1: with Hoppy. No perspective could be matched there as far
• 46:55
Speaker 1: as that go. Dave Allen's show on five of d
• 46:56
Speaker 1: Live is brought to you in part by Morgan and
• 46:58
Speaker 1: Morgan America is the largest injury firm and by the
• 47:01
Speaker 1: Charleston Dirty Birds, your hometown baseball team, the Charleston dirty Birds.
• 47:04
Speaker 1: It may be wintertime, but we are already thinking about
• 47:07
Speaker 1: baseball at Go Mart Park now would be a good
• 47:10
Speaker 1: time to secure your season tickets merchandise at more at
• 47:13
Speaker 1: dirty birds baseball dot com. A couple things I want
• 47:16
Speaker 1: to tell you about before we cut away out of
• 47:18
Speaker 1: here today, just about four minutes left in the program,
• 47:21
Speaker 1: and I wanted to go over some of the schedule
• 47:22
Speaker 1: that we have coming up here on five EDWCHS. First
• 47:25
Speaker 1: of all, one thing you need to be aware of
• 47:27
Speaker 1: is Carl Lee has a show that's coming out tonight,
• 47:30
Speaker 1: Let's Talk That will be on the air at just
• 47:33
Speaker 1: after seven o'clock and the podcast will drop today as well.
• 47:37
Speaker 1: Let's Talk with Carl Lee you can find out on
• 47:39
Speaker 1: any podcast provider and here at Live at seven o'clock tonight.
• 47:42
Speaker 1: But I do want to tell you about next week's show.
• 47:44
Speaker 1: Carl already has that booked and next week Carl's guest
• 47:47
Speaker 1: is going to be Jim McMahon, the former quarterback of
• 47:49
Speaker 1: the Chicago Bears, Super Bowl winning quarterback of the nineteen
• 47:52
Speaker 1: eighty five Super Bowl Shuffle Bears. Jimy Man is going
• 47:55
Speaker 1: to be on the phone, not in studio, but Jim
• 47:57
Speaker 1: will be on the phone next week with Carl Lee,
• 48:00
Speaker 1: Lisa Odie and Hollis Lewis, who does that program and
• 48:03
Speaker 1: you can find a picture of McMahon and a notice
• 48:07
Speaker 1: of that show on our Facebook page if you go
• 48:08
Speaker 1: to WCHS Network on Facebook. And if you have any
• 48:11
Speaker 1: questions for the Super Bowl champ for Jim mannon, you
• 48:14
Speaker 1: can leave those there for him and the crew will
• 48:17
Speaker 1: get around to it. So that's going to be a
• 48:18
Speaker 1: nice guest. Of course, Carl Show has had tons of
• 48:21
Speaker 1: guests recently that are pretty cool if you don't listen
• 48:23
Speaker 1: to that program. They've had on Sterling Sharp just after
• 48:26
Speaker 1: he was inducted into the National Football League Hall of Fame.
• 48:28
Speaker 1: They had Christy Martin on a couple times right around
• 48:30
Speaker 1: the release of her movie. They had on Dante Carlpepper.
• 48:33
Speaker 1: They've had on Kurt Warner, the football player here from
• 48:36
Speaker 1: West Virginia who notoriously media shy, and they had him
• 48:40
Speaker 1: one to talk about his time in West Virginia with
• 48:43
Speaker 1: the Seattle Seahawks. So that's Let's Talk with Carl Lee.
• 48:45
Speaker 1: I encourage you to check it out. JIMT Mann is
• 48:47
Speaker 1: going to be on next Thursday. There's a new show
• 48:49
Speaker 1: that's dropping tonight with the crew as well, and you
• 48:51
Speaker 1: can find that on your podcast providers. That Let's Talk
• 48:54
Speaker 1: with Carl Lee. It's a great show. Carl puts in
• 48:56
Speaker 1: a lot of work for it, so I encourage you
• 48:57
Speaker 1: to check that out if you get a chance to
• 49:00
Speaker 1: also coming up on the airwaves here at on five
• 49:01
Speaker 1: adw CHS. Otherwise, it's a pretty big Things have calmed
• 49:05
Speaker 1: down from the bowl season. We don't have as many
• 49:08
Speaker 1: of the balls. We were doing several bowls a week
• 49:10
Speaker 1: here for a while, but now we're into the playoffs
• 49:13
Speaker 1: and we're down to the final four on the playoffs,
• 49:15
Speaker 1: and the first game of the Final four is going
• 49:17
Speaker 1: to be tonight, and that's going to be right here
• 49:20
Speaker 1: on five eight WCHS. You're going to be able to
• 49:23
Speaker 1: get that tonight at seven thirty and after sports Line
• 49:27
Speaker 1: the kickoff is at eight o'clock, so you'll be able
• 49:30
Speaker 1: to pick that up at seven thirty. That's going to
• 49:31
Speaker 1: be Miami and Ole Miss tonight from the Fiesta Bowl.
• 49:34
Speaker 1: That is a game one of the college football playoff
• 49:37
Speaker 1: of the final four. In game two will be tomorrow night.
• 49:40
Speaker 1: That's going to be also at seven thirty. Now we
• 49:42
Speaker 1: do have high school basketball when WCHS tomorrow night. The
• 49:45
Speaker 1: starts at seven. Those games usually only go a little
• 49:47
Speaker 1: bit over an hour, hour and a half something like that,
• 49:49
Speaker 1: so that will be over about eight thirty. So we
• 49:51
Speaker 1: will join the Peach Bowl, which is the other game
• 49:53
Speaker 1: of the Final Four for college football. We will join
• 49:57
Speaker 1: that in progress about eight thirty or so. That will
• 49:58
Speaker 1: only be about a half an hour in to the game,
• 50:00
Speaker 1: so probably still in the first quarter. You can catch
• 50:02
Speaker 1: the entire game over on our sister station, fourteen ninety
• 50:05
Speaker 1: WSWW on one o six to seven. Charleston Sports Radio
• 50:08
Speaker 1: will have the entire thing, but you will be able
• 50:10
Speaker 1: to catch most of that over here on five ADWCHS
• 50:12
Speaker 1: tomorrow night. And then of course, the National Championship is
• 50:15
Speaker 1: a week from Monday. That is a week from this
• 50:18
Speaker 1: coming Monday is when the National Championship will be and
• 50:20
Speaker 1: we'll have that game on five ADWCCHS as well other
• 50:25
Speaker 1: games this weekend. As far as high school basketball goes,
• 50:28
Speaker 1: I think I mentioned Hoover in Winfield that is going
• 50:30
Speaker 1: to be at seven o'clock tomorrow night on five ADWCCHS
• 50:34
Speaker 1: and our sister station, which is a ninety six to
• 50:36
Speaker 1: one KWS Superstar Country. They are the home for Hoover
• 50:39
Speaker 1: Sports and you will be able to find information or
• 50:42
Speaker 1: you will be able to find the game over there
• 50:44
Speaker 1: as well on Friday and then this weekend. Kind of
• 50:47
Speaker 1: a light sports schedule otherwise on WCCHS as far as
• 50:50
Speaker 1: national sports go. We do have a college basketball game
• 50:53
Speaker 1: Tennessee at Georgia that's going to be at noon on
• 50:56
Speaker 1: Saturday right here on five AWCCHS and our sister station
• 50:59
Speaker 1: of course, ninety or one of seven three the Beat.
• 51:02
Speaker 1: They are the home for West Virginia State Sports. They're
• 51:05
Speaker 1: in basketball season now and there'll be a doubleheader on
• 51:08
Speaker 1: Saturday with the men's and women's team West Virginia State
• 51:11
Speaker 1: University versus Point Park. That's going to be starting at
• 51:14
Speaker 1: two o'clock on Saturday, and those games will be back
• 51:16
Speaker 1: to back with a doubleheader for women's and men's basketball
• 51:20
Speaker 1: from West Virginia State University. So that's what we have
• 51:23
Speaker 1: coming up as far as sports goes. You can catch
• 51:25
Speaker 1: the schedule at any time Wcchsnetwork, dot Com, Slash Sports.
• 51:28
Speaker 1: We have a ton of high school basketball games that's
• 51:31
Speaker 1: going to be on the horizon. We're really getting cranked
• 51:33
Speaker 1: up as far as high school basketball goes now. Like
• 51:35
Speaker 1: I said, we have a Hoover game coming up this week,
• 51:37
Speaker 1: but we have several games coming up next week, and
• 51:40
Speaker 1: then every week for the remainder of the regular season
• 51:43
Speaker 1: for West Virginia High School basketball here in the valley,
• 51:45
Speaker 1: we'll have two or three games every single week, at
• 51:47
Speaker 1: least sometimes more. So you want to check the schedule
• 51:49
Speaker 1: at WCHS network dot com slash Sports. Wchsnetwork dot com.
• 51:54
Speaker 1: Slash sports is where you can find all that. Thanks
• 51:56
Speaker 1: for tuning in today. Dave Allen will be back tomorrow,
• 51:59
Speaker 1: and I'll back this afternoon at three h six with
• 52:01
Speaker 1: Dave weekly on Hotline. Encourage you to check in today.
• 52:05
Speaker 1: Jermaine Luciar is going to be on the program today.
• 52:07
Speaker 1: He lives out in California, has all the access to
• 52:09
Speaker 1: the big Hollywood movies, and he'll have a bunch of
• 52:12
Speaker 1: information on what's going on with the movies and TV releases.
• 52:15
Speaker 1: Plus we'll have plenty more about West Virginia basketball, all
• 52:17
Speaker 1: of the college football playoff action, and more today on
• 52:20
Speaker 1: Metro News Hotline. Dave and TJ are coming up next
• 52:23
Speaker 1: on talk Line, and then Midday with Amanda Baron and
• 52:27
Speaker 1: Daniel Woods will be this afternoon starting at noon. Thanks
• 52:30
Speaker 1: so much once again for tuning in. I'm Dell Cooper.
