- 0:00Taylor.
- 0:20Oh, welcome to team of the 80s.
- 0:22My name is Gary Spencer.
- 0:23You probably know that by now.
- 0:26Yeah, and summer March is on.
- 0:28But the World cup is over.
- 0:32Spain defeated Argentina.
- 0:35If you don't know that already.
- 0:37If you don't know that and you're watching or listening to this podcast, you're probably listening or watching the wrong podcast yet.
- 0:45Defeated Argentina.
- 0:47Pretty dull game I thought.
- 0:50But you could see how England struggled to beat Argentina in the semi final.
- 0:57I'll get to that in a bit later on and hopefully towards the end of the show we'll get Peter Nicholas on and he's going to let us know exactly what he thought of the World cup because even though
- 1:11he's a Welsh fella and even though he represented Wales many times, he actually tipped England heavily to win the World Cup.
- 1:19So he was disappointed too, I know that for a fact.
- 1:22So hopefully we'll get him on.
- 1:23If not, we'll get him back next week and I'm sure he'll give us his thoughts on the World Cup.
- 1:28Palace players featured very well at the World Cup.
- 1:32You may remember in my last podcast I was saying how much I was more of a, a country before club player.
- 1:41I wasn't, I wasn't too enthused when the club were putting out on their socials players that were doing well in the World cup and some of those players were going to play against England.
- 1:53Of all four, obviously Crystal Pilot's players doing well except when they're playing England and of course consequently later in the tournament, Chelsea, when they put up Fernandez got bucket loads of stick for doing that and they had to
- 2:10pull it down because all the England fans were like, what are you doing posting him up?
- 2:14He's just knocked England out.
- 2:16So you know.
- 2:18Yep, all about it.
- 2:20But when we're competing against each other, let's wait till the domestic season.
- 2:26Having said that, well, well pleased for the palace players.
- 2:33Some good players in there too.
- 2:34Munoz, Strand, Larson, Mateta, obviously Dean Anderson with England as I used to be with this of course, Elise.
- 2:46Wow, what a tournament Elise had.
- 2:48And it goes on and on.
- 2:50Lacroix.
- 2:51It goes on and on and on.
- 2:52We have plenty of palace representation in the World Cup.
- 2:56So very pleased for the boys.
- 2:57Hopefully we can keep hold of them.
- 3:00Looks like the Quads on his way to Chelsea.
- 3:02But let's see.
- 3:03Football's a funny old game.
- 3:04If we can stick together and add to the squad, I should think we're gonna have a decent season.
- 3:10But you know, let's see one thing at a time.
- 3:13Who were you pleased with and disappointed with at the World Cup?
- 3:17Did you.
- 3:18Did you disapprove of Argentina's tactics?
- 3:20They've always played that way.
- 3:22I can't remember a time when they haven't played that way.
- 3:25One thing I will say in the final is that if you remember when they were down to 10 men, they were knocking on the door against Spain, you know, and they could have easily got an equalizer there at
- 3:38the end.
- 3:39So they've got a pattern to play.
- 3:41I think they're more than talented to play without the dirty dark arts, I do.
- 3:48But that's the way they want to play.
- 3:50And in my lifetime I haven't seen it change.
- 3:53So maybe that's the way they're always going to play.
- 3:56Who knows?
- 3:58Going back to England and their World Cup, I thought we did okay, you know, I thought we were okay.
- 4:05Obviously in, in the group stages, a fantastic effort and performance against Mexico, a very professional performance against Norway where I'd said before that I couldn't see Harlan scoring and he didn't score and he never looked like scoring.
- 4:23And with the Argentina game, I thought we did.
- 4:27I thought we did well.
- 4:28I thought we was in the game.
- 4:31I do feel that they were knocking on the door long before Churchill made the tactical changes and I do feel that his tactical changes didn't help.
- 4:44But again, would we have won the game?
- 4:47Would we have seen that the game?
- 4:50My heart says we would have done.
- 4:52My head, I don't know.
- 4:54I don't know.
- 4:55We were in retreat.
- 4:57We weren't looking good.
- 4:58They were knocking on the door.
- 4:59But one thing I will say, when Chuchu says it's down to our DNA.
- 5:05Not sure about that one, mate.
- 5:08And if it is, then that's got to be the worst German tactical decision since the Third Reich went on the Russian front because I tell you, he didn't help us.
- 5:20But yep, you know, that's the World cup and it's a great tournament.
- 5:28It was great for America.
- 5:29It was great for the teams involved.
- 5:31It was great from a monetary point of view.
- 5:34All in all, a very good tournament.
- 5:39Could England have got there to the final?
- 5:41Yeah.
- 5:42Could that have been Spain?
- 5:43It's football, you know, we beat Manchester City in the FA cup final on a one game off.
- 5:48You never know what's going to happen.
- 5:50Looking forward to the season.
- 5:54We had a preseason game the other day, Swindon.
- 5:58We did okay.
- 5:59I think we won like 651 or something.
- 6:01It was a 51 or something.
- 6:03I don't know.
- 6:03I can't remember.
- 6:05Frank has called a hat trick in catcher scored.
- 6:09I don't play well.
- 6:10First of all, I watched the highlights of the game.
- 6:13I didn't see all of it.
- 6:15And if I'm honest, I'm a bit footballed out right now after having the end of the season, the European game, the World Cup.
- 6:25So a little bit of a break, I think will do us all good.
- 6:28To tide us over in that break with the podcast, I've got Barry Siltman coming up.
- 6:33I've got Phil Order coming up.
- 6:35I've got Vince Alaire coming up and Stevie Lovell.
- 6:39So by the time we get through those, we'll be well into the season.
- 6:43So lots of great interviews coming up, lots of great guests coming on the show.
- 6:47And I'll be revisiting with Nico as well and Fen and yeah, I'm really, really looking forward to that.
- 6:56But please subscribe and like to the videos.
- 7:00You can obviously watch me here on YouTube or you can listen anywhere you get your podcast.

- 7:17I love to debate.
- 7:20Football's all about opinions, right?
- 7:21And this show's all about opinions.
- 7:24And the more people that give me an opinion and debate me and question my opinion, the better the show is.
- 7:31So I'm all there for it.
- 7:34Let me see if I can get Nico on later in this afternoon and I'll come back if I can.
- 7:40If not, I'll catch you next time.
- 7:42Thanks for watching and thanks for listening.
