- 0:03[SPEAKER_03]: All right, welcome to show others receiving votes for its illustrator and I am at 40 joint as always by Jean-Welcher-Howski and Brian Fisher.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_03]: Gentlemen, we have made it to the championship game.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_03]: It is coming into view.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, we sure didn't see this one coming, but we've got Indiana and Miami and to preview that talk about other things here's what we're going to go through in this show.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_03]: We will dive into all things.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_03]: Hoosiers against hurricanes.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, seems like a great place to start.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we will take another stab at the impossible, which is putting Indiana and Kurt Signetti in perspective.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_03]: uh... discuss whether the losers are cheating weasels as some people are passively aggressively alleging uh... will assess what it means to have mimey back as a contender all right
- 0:59[SPEAKER_03]: And we will preview the other Tussle in South Florida this week.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_03]: The playoff format for 2026, the decision is coming soon.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_03]: We'll pick portal winners, pick the title game, and Gene will jasky favorite here.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_03]: We will learn about walrus anatomy.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, dear God, stay tuned for that.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, dear God.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_03]: All right, fellas, this is not exactly the matchup we saw coming when this ex-on Valdez of a podcast started in August.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_03]: We, we were not talking Indiana versus Miami, but here we are.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_03]: I did look back, SI preseason rankings.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_03]: We did have Indiana 10, and I found the email, we're Brian and I were going back and forth.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_03]: We had him as high as four at one point and decided,
- 1:53[SPEAKER_03]: and back to that down.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_03]: We had Miami as low as 23.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_03]: We moved them up.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_03]: So we were about as wrong as everybody else about this, but Indiana with its 717 all-time defeats against the Miami team that really looked like it might have been on the outside looking in up to the very last day before selection Sunday.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_03]: With the SEC is out again of the championship game the big ten is looking for a three-peet the ACC has new life It's a lot going on here a lot of storylines in this game.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_03]: Jino If you were a reviewer how many stars are you giving this production?
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: Well, what's they're not the like I would give it four and a half stars and the reason I'm not giving it five I would have given it five if all miss
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: would have somehow sneaked in there.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: That would have been bonkers, given the lane kiffin, subplots, and all the craziness that had happened there.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: But I can certainly live with Miami and Indiana.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: I wish you guys would have followed your August instincts.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: you guys would have looked like geniuses right now, you know, if you go back and look at the odds, and I know that you did this, and we're going to talk about them a little later, Pat, Indiana was somewhere between 100 to 1 to 125 to 1 before the season started to win the national championship.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: Miami started at 35 to 1, but as you just mentioned, right before the selection show,
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: They were as high as 250 to one, doomed in the national championship.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: So these are two teams that nobody thought incredibly enough.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody thought was gonna make it to this point.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: But four and a half stars works for me, especially when you look at some of these storylines that we have, we have the signetti, we have crystal ball, we have baby Jesus, I hope that's not sacrilege to say.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: We have these great offensive and defensive lines.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: We have the possibility of one of the great college football stories.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe one of the great American sports stories of all time if Indiana wins at all.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: We've got a lot of things going for us, come Monday night.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: So four and a half stars seems about right to me.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: Well, none of this has star stuff.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: We got to go with the full five stars because of that reason.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mean, this is one of, like you said, one of the great American sports stories, if Indiana completes this and wins in Miami.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: And first, 16 to no, major college football team ever, if they do end up completing that.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: So there's not only that bit of history as well.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: And you throw in just the layers.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we are old enough to remember, you know, Miami being Miami.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: And for that program,
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: Which we have talked about for for two decades now kind of going in the wilderness and in the way they've come back at times But not quite to the level that they want and there's all the you know There's there's the turnover chain and there's always the questions is the you going to be back at times under a number of different ad coaches and For them at home to win a national title at home You know, we saw the Rams do that when the Super Bowl a couple of years ago that I think that just adds another layer
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: uh... to everything so i i i think it's a five star match up i i think you add into the actual game itself in terms of you have the highest trophy winner in franando mendoza going up against a defense that really has propelled the canes to this point so i i think it's a great match up i think they're a great story lines i think it's a it's an integrate spot they're down there in my amy uh... i don't know how you can go wrong with with all the title game matchups uh... you know yet like you said maybe if there was the lane kiffin factor but that
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: on next Monday, you know, to have that, you know, multiple days of talking about Lane Kiffin if it's old miss and made it.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a great matchup.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a perfect matchup, and so give me the five star treatment there for for us to get down to the title game and discuss this matchup.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_03]: I think I'm going five stars as well.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_03]: They are the one of their element to this night.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_03]: You mentioned Brian that,
- 6:04[SPEAKER_03]: We have the high school trophy winner for nanomendosa.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_03]: He's also from Miami.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_03]: Like everything is coming back to this south Florida center of gravity here, which has been the site of many great historic moments in football and one of the great historic dynasties in Miami that is now back and is the home team that may be outnumbered in their home stadium by the fans by the Indiana fans.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_03]: But men doza.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_03]: grew up in Miami was unrecruited by the hurricanes, even though his dad played with Mario Crystal Ball in high school.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_03]: And they're like, yeah, you know what?
- 6:37[SPEAKER_03]: Sorry.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_03]: It's just, don't think he's good enough.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_03]: And so he wanders the wilderness.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_03]: Basically, he was going to go to Yale.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_03]: Didn't that, did not end up going to Yale because Cal came in and recruited him.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_03]: Showed out well enough there to go join his brother Alberto in Indiana.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_03]: because they like Burt and they thought, well, Fernando's actually better, well, we'll take him to.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_03]: And now here he does.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_03]: He goes home to play for national championships, so the the confluence of stuff in the Miami area here.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_03]: And there's other players too, and this obviously the you has a bunch of homegrown players, but the Angela Ponds.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_03]: is a Miami kid, Jumari Sharp, who starts for Indiana, is a Miami kid, oh, I'm Mark Cooper, so I mean, there's just, there's a lot of natural interest and side bars and whatever you want to say, human interest areas there.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_03]: So I am really looking forward to all of that.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_03]: I hope it's a good game.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_03]: Indiana is not allowed anybody to play a good game against them since the big ten championship game.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_03]: We'll see if that continues and that brings us to our next point here, Indiana is truly on the verge of completing an all-time program rise, possibly going 16 and 0, and this is a team that forget having come out of nowhere last year, even this year, there were significant doubters.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_03]: Alabama was 9 to 1, or it was 14 to 1, Indiana beat those two by a combined 69 points in the playoff in the last two games.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_03]: 2016's had better odds to go undefeated than Indiana and here they are 15 and over the last on beaten.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_03]: Brian, where did we whiff on the Hoosiers and where would this rank in sports history if they finished the job 16 in our national champions?
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you mentioned it, Pat.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we were pretty high, you know, compared to the consensus in the preseason pregnosticators and that, you know, we had Indian up there.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think being in the top 10, you know, thinking they were a playoff team, and I think they were in, we did a couple of college football playoff brackets for our preseason issue.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: And we had Indian and a couple of them.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I think at least we didn't miss the boat.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: And we could at least see a potential playoff run coming from Indian.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: So at least we'll give us a half credit,
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: In terms of the historical perspective, you know, it's funny.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think you look back and really just a couple of days ago, Mackelsfield beat Crystal Palace and the FA Cup.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: This is like six tier semi-pro team, beating the the raining couple.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: There's I think that that's an incredible story across the pond and it's almost kind of similar.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_03]: We got to issue a quick disclaimer that Brian is a soccer.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yes,
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: You can you can follow.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, you know, some semi-pros beaten beaten the professionals, if you will.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: And in the top tier.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the kind of kind of turnaround story.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: It seems like we're getting from Indiana.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: Because this was this was the program everybody booked for homecoming, right?
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: This was the team that had more losses than any other major college football program coming into the coming into this year.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's this year that they got out.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: from the drag.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: So like it is a crazy story.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think you can compare it to that Lester City premier title, the 5,000 to 1 long shot back in 2015, 2016.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: I added the Miami Marlins from 1997.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: They had never had a winning season as an expansion franchise and they end up winning the world series, right?
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: And doing it.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: in Florida, no less and you know from in the city where the title game is played.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I would throw that out there.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'd also throw out just a couple a couple of weeks ago.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, the stackable champions, the division three Wisconsin River Falls, if you will, the cardinals were, you know,
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: They played in a big time conference that a lot of other programs have won, you know, a lot of historical championship level programs.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: This was kind of one of the drugs in that conference had not made the post season since 1996 ended up winning the division three national title.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: kind of parallels to Miami or to Indiana this year, you know, top scoring offense, top scoring defense, Miami's top two and both of those this year.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: So even a little parallels this year in terms of the historic perspective, but I don't think in American sports, if they end up completing this task, that we've seen anything quite like this turnaround story that Kurt Signetti and the Hoosiers have authored.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Brian, I have great respect for your soccer knowledge.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: I have no idea who you're talking about there.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: Zero.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: But people who follow soccer, I'm sure it can appreciate the comparison.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: To me, one, I'm not sure we did with.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, did anybody have Mendoza winning the Heisman trophy this year?
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, how would we possibly have known that was going to be how it unfolded?
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not even sure Kurt Signetti, or even Mendoza himself thought he was ever going to win a Heisman trophy.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: The fact that you guys had them in the top 10, yes, you know, opera applause there.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: But I just don't know how anybody could have seen this coming.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: To play in the national championship, to go undefeated, to have this kind of season up to this point is beyond comprehension to me.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: Brian, again, with all due respect, I think you're underselling Indiana in comparison to the great sporting accomplishments, at least in this country, if they end up winning this national championship.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'll ask you these you guys these questions if they one would this be better than Hickory high winning in Hoosiers?
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's a good one.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: Would be better than Bustard Douglas beating Mike Tyson?
- 12:48[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, yes, yet more sustained, right?
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: Just a little bit.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_03]: Just a little bit on site.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_03]: Jets over the coats.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_03]: Um, yeah, yes, but there's a parallel there.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_03]: I'll get.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_03]: I'll give you a parallel there.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_03]: Go ahead and finish your thought.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, and see state beating five slam a jama.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: That was the other team to mind too.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, but the other one shot.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, they had to get there, right, but this one's for you Pat upset beats man award.
- 13:19[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I'm not sure it's a, do you believe in miracles?
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of a victory, if they win, but there are some really Hall of Fame iconic comparisons to be made of somehow Indiana goes from literally worst to first.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think it's fascinating to go through some of these great accomplishments by teams and people in American sports history, this certainly would have to be at least in the team picture if they beat Miami.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_03]: For sure.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_03]: That's Francis Wimatt winning the US Open You Were There For That, right?
- 14:09[SPEAKER_03]: Now, yeah, I mean, look, it is.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_03]: It's up there and from a team sports perspective, it is very hard to beat.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_03]: I stood there and watched Rich Strike when the 2022 Kentucky Derby at 81 to 1 and that was completely preposterous, but that was a two-minute race.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_03]: Buster Douglas, Mike Tyson was a, however many rounds it took, Buster, didn't he knock him out?
- 14:32[SPEAKER_03]: I think he did.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_03]: So that, I don't think that went a full 15.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_03]: where it's that day and the magic happens.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, Indiana is 15 and oh, and it's not, oh, my gosh, a, a punch here, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, well, there was a toe tap.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_03]: There was a toe tap.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_03]: There was a toe tap.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_03]: But it's 15 and 0 and it is crushing Alabama and then crushing Oregon and I don't think they're going to crush Miami, but the the chance to finish this thing and get there the jets.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_03]: So here's the, here's my point.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_03]: The, the jet's cold is an interesting comparison, Gene, because I just think that was a product of inherent bias of the AFC can't be that good.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's one area.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_03]: I guess I mean more collectively like the American sports media and or Punditocracy or whatever you want to call it kind of way where you're going with this in your right Yeah, because like no, it's Indiana.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_03]: It's a laundry issue.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_03]: We just can't they can't be that good.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_03]: It's not possible.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_03]: They've never been that good.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_03]: So we can't see them being that good and I think that's why people look
- 15:59[SPEAKER_03]: and team that went 11 and 2 last year against admittedly a not great schedule but the two teams they lost to played for the national title and one of them won it obviously Ohio State and then coming into this year everybody's like back them down to 19 20 21 22 and that's like really didn't make sense if you can look at beyond the laundry.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_03]: I mean if you could ration understand for
- 16:27[SPEAKER_03]: And the offensive line was going to be better because it was definitely the offensive line wasn't that good and they got some other guys and the other players that stayed were going to improve and they had veterans coming back and all these other places.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_03]: But we wouldn't let ourselves let our minds go there to Indiana actually being a national championship contender.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_03]: I think that was the biggest thing is just.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_03]: just natural stubbornness of this is how it's always been and it can't possibly be that way and now it might be that way.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_03]: So to that point, gentlemen, people thinking it was too good to be true and clued a number of folks who have now launched some conspiracy theories that India's Indiana's cheating
- 17:17[SPEAKER_03]: to get here.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_03]: The number of the rationalizations that people have come up with are incredible.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_03]: First of all, well, they're old.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_03]: That's all you do.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_03]: You just go out and get a bunch of 23 year olds.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_03]: Anybody can do that.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_03]: Anybody can get 23 24 year olds.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_03]: They have five six year guys.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_03]: So, a pretty good number of those.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_03]: They got two fifth year guys that are main players.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of them home grown, not all of them.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_03]: They have plenty of portal guys, right?
- 17:49[SPEAKER_03]: But anybody can have an old team now.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_03]: Second rationalization, or more, Cuban just bought the whole team.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_03]: A, not true.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_03]: He didn't kick in until last year when they were already good.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_03]: B, how much money did it actually cost to get Elijah Serrat from James Madison?
- 18:10[SPEAKER_03]: Unless it had cost to get Aiden Fisher from James Madison.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_03]: Unless it gets cost to get Fernando Mendoza.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure, you know, they paid a decent penny for him, but not what Miami paid for Carson back.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_03]: But then the the the kicker is, well, they know what place people are running.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_03]: So they've got to hack into the software, the catapult software, and figured out everybody's practice plans and watch the video.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_03]: And this is, okay, you can say, we're just amplifying cranks here.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_03]: Now, there are people who are subtly putting this forward whose names and voices would be familiar to most college football fans or many college football fans.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_03]: were kind of subtly implying Indiana is cheating.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_03]: And that's the biggest insult of all to me, because unless you got proof of that one, and there was proof with Michigan, all right?
- 19:02[SPEAKER_03]: Conor Stallion's was caught.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_03]: He was caught in the Anna.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_03]: There's no proof in there, shit.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_03]: I don't see any intellectual reason to believe it.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_03]: Other than the fact that people cannot wrap their brains around Indiana being this good.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_03]: Gentlemen, is Indiana cheating?
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: Is there any evidence?
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, then I don't need to spend a nanosecond more on this, incredibly enough because I have no life.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_01]: I actually went on X last night to see if Connor Stallions had somehow weighed in on this Indiana thing, just like in Indiana, and I did not see anything, but until somebody
- 19:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: To me, this is like an internet prank call, the equivalent of that.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: So unless there's evidence, I really don't care.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have time for it.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's ridiculous.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I know they're going to get asked about it down in Miami.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_01]: And if I were Indiana, I wouldn't even respond to it.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't acknowledge it.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: There's no proof.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Connor Stallion did weigh in on Indiana and in terms of the ticket, secondary pricing market, if you will, in terms to Mark Cuban.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: So at least he's he's he's keeping up with the times.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know, this just kind of goes back to Indiana is breaking everybody's brains.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Kurt Signetti, this turnaround, what he's been able to author, it is just like incomprehensible to so many people that it's leading athletic directors to do crazy things.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: You don't think them if they could either find the next Kurt Signetti or, hey, why aren't we turning around if Indiana can do that?
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: If Indiana can do this run, you know, in two years, after winning, I think it was eight games, the previous three seasons.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it literally is breaking the brains of everybody in the sport.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it just does not compute.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's something, you know, inherently in, in everybody's minds of this picture of what Indiana football is, was, and is supposed to be,
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: And so when you're seeing the results on the field, when you're seeing them look like Ohio State, when you're seeing them look like any of the past national title winners that we've seen that that have executed crisply and gone out there and looked like they are the superior and more talented team against those named brands.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's like your brain does not compute, and so I think that's leading to the conspiracy theories.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's leading to everything that is out there in terms of why are they doing this?
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: How are they doing this?
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the thing that is going to pop up.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_00]: Probably inevitable, honestly, that this was going to at least surface from some folks, because frankly, nobody can wrap their brains around.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_00]: This is why this is one of the great.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: American sports stories.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be going to be fascinating to see if India has any sort of response.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure Kurt Signetti has a line saved up for when he meets with the media again on Saturday because somebody's going to ask him at media day.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I can't wait to be there to see what he has to say in response to all these rumors and then anyone knows that Indian is indeed cheating.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I went ahead and asked a couple of people in the business and what a coach who suits team played against Indiana this year, so anything that you saw, anything that you've seen since the indicates there's something going on is, quote, I think it's ass-in-ine.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_03]: I just think they're really effing good.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't see anything when they played us other than really good players who are really well coached.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't see their game against Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship, but I went back and watched the old 22 and they just whipped them up front.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_03]: Those interior guys on the D-Line get no credit, but they're really good, and the O-Line is dominating.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_03]: There's nothing suspicious about winning up front.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_03]: that to me told me everything I need no it's you watch them play and it's not like hoax focus especially here in the playoff they are lining up and beating people there's not any real trick of racing to it at all
- 23:02[SPEAKER_03]: guys there there is another team in this gang.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_03]: We've talked a lot of Indiana.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_03]: We certainly have to talk about Miami all props to them as a number ten seed pulling off consecutive upsets to get to the semi finals and then holding off that really gritty Mississippi team to make the championship game.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_03]: uh... ma'am he's watered the wilderness for about twenty five years after being the program in college football through the nineteen eighties and a portion of the nineties as well uh... they're in their backyard as an underdog it says nineteen eighty four orange bull flashback if you remember uh... that game that was nebraska coming in the undefeated juggernaut my amy kind of trying to prove themselves
- 23:48[SPEAKER_03]: similar story line this time, except for it's Indiana, not Nebraska, but given the the massive pipeline that exists in Florida, given the impact the sunshine state has had between Miami and Florida and Florida state on the sport, how much is college football need a return to prominence by this state, Gina, are you buying that?
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: Well, first fly would encourage anyone.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: To go and read your column on the Indiana and these ridiculous allegations of cheating, I was really well done, well researched and well reported by you.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: So, well done by you and a column.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think college football, the success of college football, depends on what happens in the state of Florida.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: But certainly it's a nice thing to see that Miami is back.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: It would be nice to see Florida stumble in from the desert.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what's going to happen with Florida State.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's going to be easier for Florida.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: to recover than Florida State, what made all that so great was that Miami and Florida State and Florida were all plain each other back in the day.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: And that's really what made it so compelling.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: Florida and Miami have played sort of often on.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: since the late 80s, but it's not a consistent rivalry any more.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_01]: Florida and Miami do play each other.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, Florida State and Miami do play each other.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: So that's nice, Florida State still plays Florida.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: But really, I think it's more relevant for the ACC, more important for the ACC.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: for Florida State and Miami to be good.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: And it's more relevant and more important for the SEC for Florida to be good in a contender.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_01]: So from that standpoint, yes, it'd be great to see those three programs assert themselves on a more consistent basis.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: But college football, in general, they seem to be doing, it seems to be doing just fine.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: when the state of Florida was struggling, but it's certainly a nice thing to see, and certainly makes college football more interesting.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, you mentioned the ACC there.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_00]: Do you know, I mean, this was why Miami was brought into the league, right?
- 26:20[SPEAKER_00]: So that they could go on runs like this.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_00]: This is the, you know, the whole reason why Miami has been there, and to to ironically, if you will, just because that was what Mario Christopher was asked about yesterday and his media availability.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, for them to win a national title before they win an ACC title, like that just kind of puts a perfect bow on there kind of early tenure here in the ACC, if you will.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_00]: And of all the handwriting that was going on, you know, Miami was kind of off to the sidelines.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_00]: You go back to the off season, all the stuff about Clemson, Florida State, and so in the league, and all the fractures.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: And there was no doubt that Miami was an interest to the observer if you could put it that way.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: In terms of all the chaos that was going on in the off season, you know, ready to pounce if you will.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: But this is also kind of reconfirms the direction of travel for Miami to to reinvest in the football program.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they had certainly made attempts over the years.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: They'd made hires.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: They'd got Mark Rickton.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: They'd got Mani Diaz who is a Miami native.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: And they've had their, you know, moments here or there, you know, where they would put together good season, but they'd always trip over themselves.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: And it kind of looks like that was going to be the case again this year, a certainly mid season when they
- 27:26[SPEAKER_00]: and they lost SMU and they were like you said, you know, 250 to one, you know, odds to get to this game.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, but, you know, this was a concerted effort by the University administration and say, hey, look, this is our front porch.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_00]: It means a lot to the community.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: It means a lot to the conference certainly.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_00]: It means a lot to the people in Miami.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: It means a lot to the program, the alums, the Michael Irvin's that would show up and be crazy, even if the hurricanes were there, you know, six and six.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it means a lot to people who knew the U and not only being back, but being the prominent college football program.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: And so they decided to invest, you know, it's not just facilities, it was in the roster, it was in Mario Crystal Ball and his coaching staff bringing him home.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_00]: Bringing a native of the city, bringing an alum of the program that knows how to win and had one at a pretty high level there at Oregon Had at work for Nick Sabin this was this was a a big proof of concept for Miami So I think you know, you you can make some some bigger pictures things, but I think for Miami itself This is a nice validation to get to this game for for what they've been able to do and certainly off the field
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: uh, on top of having a lot of those, those South Florida natives power this run, you know, Malachi Tony, uh, Rubin Bane, you know, those guys that, um, you know, bought into the vision that Mario Crystal ball was selling.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think that means a lot to, uh, especially there locally.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, I, I, I agree with your point that, like, comfortable, but doesn't need it.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_03]: They don't need
- 28:55[SPEAKER_03]: Miami or Florida State or Florida to still have a great product.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_03]: But I enjoy it.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it's great.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's it's some.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_03]: you know that there's so many players down there and for a while it had been dispersed and they're heading all over the country and they still will, there's enough of them, but when those schools have keep enough of them home that they're competitive, that's awesome, that is fun and they may not be the personality driven trio of schools like you mentioned, we don't we don't have Spurler, we don't have Bowden,
- 29:30[SPEAKER_03]: And we don't quite have that use swagger that was just so over the top under Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_03]: But boy, it's I just I love what we've we've made the point a million times on this podcast will continue to make a diverse sport where all parts of the country are activated and involved and relevant.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_03]: And this to me is is fun just to see Miami be be relevant again.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm enjoying it.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_03]: Brian, I want to ask you about this here.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_03]: We alluded to it at the top.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_03]: College football playoff meetings, we got all the fun on the field and then we got the just the continuous bang your head against the wall headlines off the field.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_03]: One of them being what the heck is the playoff going to look like next year?
- 30:21[SPEAKER_03]: That hasn't even been decided yet.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_03]: There are meetings scheduled for the CFP leadership, which is all the conference commissioners
- 30:35[SPEAKER_03]: There's an ESPN deadline of January 23rd to declare the format for next year's playoff.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_03]: That's been extended.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_03]: That's pretty well.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_03]: Fisher cut bait time.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_03]: ESPN reported this week that the big tends still trying to get to twenty four teams despite a general consensus for sixteen and one of the the latest bargaining ships from my man Tony Petiti gosh he doesn't give up easily uh... is hey will agree to sixteen next year SEC if you'll go to twenty four beyond that
- 31:11[SPEAKER_03]: Why I don't know, but Brian, what do you expect to happen this week and next on the CFP front?
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's an open question, you know, in terms of how much, you know, I wrote this a couple of weeks ago, how much does Tony Petiti want to compromise, you know, and whether this is maybe his effort, if you will, to eventually get it over the line to get to 24.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_00]: Because the big tin has been pretty consistent in terms of, you know, not having the interest level in terms of moving to 16, that I would say the, you know, nine other leagues posted on today and would like to move to for next year.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think if it were left up to really everybody but the big ten we would have a 16th play off for next year.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_00]: I feel pretty confident in saying that.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_00]: And the commissioners, both publicly and privately, have kind of hinted at that.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's all down to, is the big 10 going to compromise.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_00]: They have control of the format.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: So there is that bit of a stalemate.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't see Greg Sanky giving in on this subject.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that his league supports 24 teams.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_00]: And even if they were, there are some implementation issues if you will.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_00]: And what does that mean for the TV contracts for those conference championship games, which throw out a lot of money for these conferences, particularly the SEC.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that is a very valuable property.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_00]: Not only for ESPN ABC that controls the rights, but that SEC championship game means a lot to a lot of people in that footprint.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_00]: And so I don't think Greg Sanky wants to give that up.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think that is kind of part of the stumbling block in terms of
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: can there be any sort of compromise.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think if you left it up to the big tin, yeah, we would be at 24 and we do automatic qualifiers.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe there is just a transition phase if you will over these next couple of years.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think I have heard that more and more that there could be using this as a bargaining chip to move to 16 initially.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: But to me, this is where we're going to either have this stalemate play out on going on Sunday before the national title game.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: And we end up staying
- 33:08[SPEAKER_00]: That we just kind of run this all back and we have these conversations again over the next year that we have been having for years now at this point, you know, and and I think that that the frustration factor amongst the other conferences, you know, it's like, all right, we all agree on going to 16, why can you not get over the table on this and that is in particular pointed at Tony Petiti so I'm going to be very curious to see if if he can either be swayed in that room with the other commissioners and the presence will also be there.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: on Sunday as well.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_00]: So that's another factor to add on to these layers.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_00]: Can they, can they sway him somehow in the room?
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: Or, you know, is he going to kind of dig a seals in?
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's the big open question going into this and will kind of hover over.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think the sport this weekend.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_01]: Well, people of aqua of Notre Dame has made it clear that he's in favor of 16.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: He has said so publicly, Greg Sanky is all that said 16 is his preferred number.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_01]: We keep on saying that Tony Petiti has some leverage here because whatever the power of the big 10 was a shared power with the SEC as far as the format is concerned.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: And secondly, these other conferences, including the SEC, have a certain leverage too.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_01]: They can tell Tony Petiti, we're not going to 24 and we're not going to go to 16 for a few years and then go to 24.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_01]: we'll just stay at 12.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_01]: To me, that's their leverage.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: They can just say, we're good at 12.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_01]: We'd rather be at 12 than 24.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: So that's their bargaining chip, at least in my mind.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_01]: 16, I mean, I can live with 12, if they go to 16, fine, I get it.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_01]: But 24, I'm not in favor of anything that begins to chip away at the meaning and relevancy of the regular season.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I think when you start getting into the 20s as far as a field is concerned, then you start maybe compromising the importance of the regular season.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, I just, yes, hey, credit to the Big Ten for being consistent, consistently ridiculous, consistently adversarial, consistently and consistently dumb.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_03]: Excellent.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_03]: To me, and you are, again, you are standing in front of the entire rest of the sport.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_03]: that wants to go this way.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_03]: And you say, now, let's go that way because we'll make more money.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_03]: It drives me crazy and the fact that they can hold this up.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_03]: Again, actually, it's fine with me because if you stay with 12 for next year, I'm okay with that.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_03]: I got it.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I got it.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_00]: And it's okay for the big tin too, right?
- 36:00[SPEAKER_00]: They've won two of those titles in a row.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_00]: They've got absolutely.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_03]: They had an all big 10 semi final.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_03]: I mean,
- 36:09[SPEAKER_03]: So that's the thing, you know, what he is pushing for, nobody else really likes.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_03]: And the system as it currently stands has worked very well for them.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_03]: So box likes it.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_03]: What's that?
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: Fox likes it.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_03]: Fox, no, it's Excel.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_03]: Fox would like some games, probably some more inventory.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_03]: They would like a play-in series of, you know,
- 36:36[SPEAKER_03]: three versus six, four versus five, whatever, you know, to get people more bids, but that's a whole other issue.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I, but if we come out of this with 12, I'm gonna say fine.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_03]: If we come out of this with an agreement to go to 16 and then to 24 beyond that, I, boy, I think that would be a really,
- 37:01[SPEAKER_03]: poorly received decision.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that you'd be hearing it from a lot of people.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_03]: Again, people have pointed to the FCS playoff, which is 24 teams.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_03]: Nobody says that's this just great playoff, first of all.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's okay, but nobody says, man, that is magic.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_03]: Secondly, there's 11 conferences, I believe, to get automatic bids in that.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_03]: Big 10 interested in the 2014 playoff where every conference gets an automatic bid, I don't think so.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_03]: That's not what they have in mind.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_03]: So I say, stop the steel from the big 10 here and let's just either get to 16 or stay at 12, but no to 24.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_03]: Amen.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_03]: We'll see how that unfolds.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, there will be a reporting from South Florida on as people come wandering out of meeting rooms and try to avoid the media as we all stand around waiting for them.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_03]: Also, because college football is dumb as I alluded to, the transfer portal has been trafficking players to new destinations in mass quantities.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_03]: Gino give me a school or a single move that you really like for twenty twenty six in the portal.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to give you a double move.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_01]: Demon Williams enters the portal.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_01]: From Washington says I'm done with Washington is supposedly.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: All but signed and sealed to LSU and then.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_01]: get some legal pushback to put it charterably and returns to to UW.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_01]: To me that was that was a move that really mattered for a few reasons one it matters to Washington because they get their starting quarterback back.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_01]: And it's sort of a cautionary tale to other players who think that they can just do whatever they want, that there aren't consequences to signing and agreeing to something.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: And so, in a way, I give Washington a lot of credit.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_01]: and to a lesser extent the big ten percent uh-uh, we're not letting this one go.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_01]: So that was the move to me that had a lot of meaning during this portal season.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_00]: Good one.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and talking with a lot of, you know, administrators.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's just that the
- 39:29[SPEAKER_00]: almost vote of confidence, if you will, in terms of that you turn.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_00]: In the system itself, you know, having these contracts, having revenue share, having the CSE, you know, like that was a big step forward, I think, in terms of the actual enforcement in a lot of these agreements, that everybody is kind of nervously approaching, especially this portal season.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_00]: I would throw out a to be determined on this this actual question patting terms of word Jordan seat in the Colorado left tackle and some I mean he's he is a first round talent and and we've seen how good offensive lineman can make a difference especially in this this championship run I mean Pat Kugen went to Indiana he's made a huge difference all.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_00]: you look at Miami certainly they have an all-American left tackle they have a really good offensive line there in the Murray of Chris why I mean that was and that was a lot of the issues for you look at Texas preseason number one you look at Penn State I don't think they're offensive line performed quite to how expected that they were you know kind of had coming in
- 40:25[SPEAKER_00]: You looked at as LSU this year.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that offensive line was not good and that really hampered their abilities to kind of get over the hump.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_00]: So a lot of the offensive lineman portal movement, I think I would circle that one as a kind of a two to be determined.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I'd also say Sam love it to LSU.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think not only does Lane Kiffin get his guy, but a guy that we have seen play on the high level and perform well.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_00]: even going back this year.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_00]: He dealt with a ton of injuries, but I mean he was he was a guy that beat Texas tech, you know, and and come and do it behind this back given the number of injuries that ASU squad ended up having.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_00]: So I think he's he's a great talent and I think playing there with Lane Kiffin playing there with that skill position talent that he will have came during coming back as well.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_00]: They're in Baton Rouge.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think LSU could have a very good season next year.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know, provided they address the offense line, but to have and say I'm love it having that quarterback back in the SEC, I think that could be a difference maker for everybody's favorite head coach there in Lane Kiffin.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_03]: I agree.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I'm a big love at fan.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_03]: He's a gamer.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_03]: He's got that kind of moxie and charisma that I think.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_03]: can elevate a team as well as this being just a really good quarterback.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to give you a couple just very quickly BYU portal winner by having null us and nobody go in it.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_03]: I think they're in tire two deep so far has stayed out of the portal.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_03]: That's as of Tuesday, January 13th at 8.44 a.m. Eastern time.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_03]: You know, they may have six guys in it by this afternoon, but as of right now, nobody
- 42:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_03]: I just sat on it's hands last year and said, word, we're good at least from a skill position standpoint.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_03]: They've changed their mind.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_03]: And they're going to give archmaning better weapons, Cam Coleman receiver from Auburn.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_03]: Hollywood smothers excellent running back from North Carolina state.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_03]: A big play guy, shifty fast.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_03]: And then the one that people aren't talking about as much, but I just love machine bios linebacker from Pittsburgh.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_03]: That guy makes plays.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_03]: He makes plays in every facet of the game.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_03]: I think he will be one of those guys that gets drafted in like the fourth round or fifth round because he's a tweener and will play in the NFL for 12 years.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe he's just a special team's demon, but I've been he finds his way on the field because he just a playmaker.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_03]: So I think Texas is giving itself a chance.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_03]: No, we are not going to pick a number one next year.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_03]: We're not falling victim to that, but I expect Texas to be better in certain areas that are very important.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_03]: next season.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_03]: So there's your your portal rundown for they though you'd be one other portal development this I just dearly loved we've now we've got
- 43:16[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we've got messaging on social media from football programs to sell themselves to recruits or whoever might be paying attention.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_03]: And a big 12, we've got doing portal pitches.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_03]: UCF tweeted.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_03]: uh... just a reminder no state income tax if you come play for the night's so we may not be offering you as big a bag as say taxes tack but the government isn't taking as much of it either so there's the selling point there savvy that's good know your competition know what you're going up against but even better
- 44:04[SPEAKER_03]: you know, maybe they don't have quite as much to sell, but they do have this.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_03]: This was actually from a fan Cyclone MKM.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_03]: Just a reminder, world's best tap water.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_03]: Picture of the Cyclone Bird even though there is no such thing as a Cyclone Bird holding up a
- 44:26[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, you know, look, if you've been around the college football space, the podcast space, we have championed the Ames tap water for many years since the, uh, the song, hooray for Ames pointed out that they have great water there.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_03]: Gene, if you were, if you're on the market as a transfer portal guy, does the water sway you?
- 44:47[SPEAKER_03]: Do you go to Iowa State because of the water?
- 44:50[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's see.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_01]: How many Iowa State players have entered the portal so far?
- 44:55[SPEAKER_01]: Isn't it something like 50, close to 50?
- 44:57[SPEAKER_01]: 200, I think.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, and they're all headed to Penn State apparently.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_01]: So the water must not be that good.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, Pat, you actually, we got to mention, I mean, Texas Tech,
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: It is having a big portal season Indiana is having a big portal season Penn State as I just mentioned even dabble at Clemson has as made some moves mayor of the portal so in taxes of course as you mentioned also has gone in big so I'm not sure the tap water unless it's green and has.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: has a currency floating on top of it, is that big of a factor these days?
- 45:41[SPEAKER_03]: Come on now, get with the water.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you got to think about the ancillary benefits, right?
- 45:47[SPEAKER_00]: That's what coaches got to put it in there as well.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's not just the bottom line figure.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it did everything else that comes with it.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they used to sell, oh, this is a 40-year decision.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_00]: Well, what about the, what about the four, the four months to the decision that you have in terms of the tap water that you drink?
- 46:02[SPEAKER_00]: So, uh, Kudos to, uh, I was state for, uh, to find an Elaine and staying with it.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely, you know, in a good like lifetime health benefits.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_03]: You could live longer.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_03]: If you were there in Iowa State and Ames drinking that good tap water.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_03]: It might really expand your quality of life.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_03]: You could be sitting there at age 85.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_03]: Say, say, if I lived in Orlando drinking inferior water, I might not even still be around.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_03]: So I think it's genius.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_03]: I think everybody should at least consider Iowa State based on Ames tap water.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_03]: All right, that's clearly enough of that folder all really, yeah, let's pick the title game.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_03]: We'll attempt to actually break down the match up a little bit where we're not going to go film room here, but Give us a key match up or a tendency to watch and then tell us who is going to win Brian wants you lead us off here.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think in terms of the key thing to keep in mind, I think starts with Miami, and will they turn the ball over?
- 47:07[SPEAKER_00]: Will they play clean?
- 47:08[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that was the one thing in the Ohio State game in that cotton ball.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_00]: No penalties, you know, like they didn't turn the ball over like that was, they played their game almost as perfectly as they could to be the writing national champions.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_00]: And if they want to be champions this year, they're going to have to do the same thing.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_00]: We saw
- 47:25[SPEAKER_00]: the opposite of that in the festival and I think just because of the time of possession dominance that they had they were at least able to overcome that in certain respects against old mess so that that's the key you know if Carson Beck looks like you know he's the first round quarterback and he looks like the guy that they pay the big money to come in and
- 47:43[SPEAKER_00]: that offense is operating crisply, then okay, I can definitely see a path for Miami there to certainly win at home and I think they will play with that excitement, but I think for the most part though, I'm on Indiana and I think it's difficult, you know, you look at these national title games and it's always difficult to kind of parse out the season and say, all right, because we have so many blowouts in this game.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's unfortunate, especially in Miami, we've had the last couple of times the national title game has been in
- 48:11[SPEAKER_00]: in Miami, we've had a lot of blowouts.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: The favorite in this game is four and one in Miami, the last five times it's been in that, and Ash Island game has been in that region in the country, and we have not had a classic or a thriller either way, so I think Indiana wins, they win handily in this one because of that, I guess, trins, if you will, between this game itself and the fact that it's down there in Miami, the Christmas that Indiana operates, give me the, give me the Hoosiers and give me that big number.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_03]: I've, yeah, I forgot to mention the spread eight and a half in the end is giving eight and a half.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_01]: Pat, what, what do they call betters who are like, they're just winning every week.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_01]: They're on a, they're on a here, right?
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: What's the opposite of that?
- 48:56[SPEAKER_01]: Because whatever it is, that's what I'm on.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_01]: He's.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_01]: You're on a horse.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_01]: You're the cooler.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_01]: You're the cooler.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_01]: Cooler, there you go, absolutely nobody should listen to a word that I say here into coming moments.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_01]: I just lost to my two grand sons.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_01]: I took the packers.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_01]: They had the bears.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_01]: I actually have an envelope behind me where I'm sending them each five dollars.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's how bad it is.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'm losing to a 10 year old and a 13 year old.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_01]: But if you look at this game, to me,
- 49:27[SPEAKER_01]: one thing just pops up immediately.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_01]: Miami Rush for 175 yards against ANM, 153 yards against Ohio State, 191 yards against Ole Miss, all right.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_01]: Indiana held Alabama to 23 rushing yards, Oregon to 93 yards, and in the Big 10 Championship, it held Ohio State to 58 yards.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_01]: So I know Miami and Mario Crystal Ball and that offensive line want to impose their will on teams.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: They want to be able to run the ball because that takes some of the pressure off of Carson back.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_01]: They're a better team when they run the ball.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_01]: Every team is a better team when they can run the ball.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_01]: I just haven't seen anybody do it against Indiana.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_01]: There's a reason why Indiana's only given up six rushing touchdowns, why they're number two in the country giving up just 75 yards per game on the ground.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_01]: Their tough, and you mentioned it earlier in the podcast, Pat, when you talk to one of those coaches, that D-line is really good and really underrated.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_01]: I have contorted myself trying to figure out a way, I would love to take eight and a half points in Miami at home.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_01]: But the truth is, anybody who thinks that that's going to be a home-field advantage for Miami hasn't been watching how many IU fans are showing up at these games.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_01]: So at the very least, I think it's 50-50 as far as fans.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_01]: And the body of work of Indiana has just absolutely made me a believer.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm way late to the party.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just the person you were talking about earlier, Brian and Pat, the guy who just couldn't believe what I was seeing.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_01]: I believe I'm taking Indiana.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'll give the Aiden half points.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_03]: There we go, Chino, a new, new convert, new believer.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_03]: And yes, the updated standings, which Brian's going to Brian has has fenced me off at the end here again.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_03]: He's, he's, he's got a game lead over me.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_03]: He's 46 and 42.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_03]: I'm 45 and 43, Gene.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_03]: Well, he has the bear.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_03]: But I can't get there because I'm taking Indiana as well and giving the eight and a half.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_03]: I just I can't go against the Hoosiers at this point.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_03]: To me this the key thing it comes down to that excellent Miami pass rush against Fernando Mendoza's comfort level in the pocket.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_03]: If he gets if he keep him clean.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_03]: he's going to pick him apart.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_03]: The receivers are phenomenal.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_03]: They don't have to be very open.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to make contested catches and he doesn't.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_03]: His pinpoint passing is just been a thing of beauty.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_03]: So they've got to get home against Mendoza and that's been hard to do.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_03]: He also scrambles effectively.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_03]: But he did put the ball on the ground or upper grabs at least twice against or we're going to got lucky both times that they retain the ball if he does that against Miami and the ball bounces the other direction and you have two turnovers That could be the thing that gives Miami a chance here.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_03]: I don't expect it to happen the other side of it.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_03]: Mark Fletcher has been outstanding running for the hurricanes
- 52:52[SPEAKER_03]: Indiana tackles extremely well.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_03]: So we'll see, is he breaking tackles?
- 52:57[SPEAKER_03]: Is he turning two yard runs into seven yard runs or not?
- 53:01[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's going to be extremely important as Gino mentioned just that side of it, who wins that part of the running game?
- 53:08[SPEAKER_03]: But I expect the Hoosiers to cover the eight and a half win the game.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_03]: Now we're going to ask producer Kent, Miami fan.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_02]: uh... can you count a program as can you give us a reason why my amie is not just going to cover the spread but win the game cat yeah i think when you look at it there's a ton of talent on my amie squad there are team that's playing the best in the country on the lines i saw a stat they have a fifty three pound advantage with the Miami offensive line against the i u defensive line
- 53:39[SPEAKER_02]: That's Mario Ball.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_02]: That's what he wants to do.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_02]: That's what he's recruited.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody's recruited more blue chippers.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_02]: And I've had to remind a lot of my Miami friends the last couple of years when they were losing games they shouldn't have.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_02]: Be patient.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_02]: They're recruiting better on the lines and any other team in the country.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_02]: back is playing smart football.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't say he's, you know, nearly long been those as level, but he's been smart.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_02]: He's taken the plays when they're given.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_02]: Marion's been much better at receiver.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, we know what Malachi Tony can do from day one.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_02]: He's been their number one option.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'll take those eight and a half points all day.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like Miami is able to run the football well enough.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_02]: play ball control, they're going to have to not drop interceptions.
- 54:21[SPEAKER_02]: They could have put Ole Miss away early in that game, or at least in the third quarter, if they didn't drop for interceptions, that was a little bit tough.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_02]: And sometimes my amy does, even if they get a lead, they kind of give it back late, they have to make sure they don't do that.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I'll take the eight and a half points and I feel pretty good.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe a team of destiny.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_02]: They snuck into the playoff.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_02]: back as a guy that pretty much everybody's doubted all year and yet all he does is win.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_02]: He won it, Georgia.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_02]: He's won it Miami.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_02]: He's not going to be a number one pick the way people fought a couple years ago, but he's a good player and I love the way they're running the football and the defense is so much better than I could have ever anticipated this year.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_02]: So
- 55:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'll take the eight and a half and I'll say my enemy's a team of destiny and, you know, I saw another thing that all five and have to hang on a second forget the eight and a half and they went out right.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was going to say their team of destiny, they can win out right and also.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_02]: As where does this sound?
- 55:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's Miami playing in their home stadium, but it seems like all the pressures on Indiana.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_02]: They're the big favorite.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_02]: They're the big 10 trying to get their third straight national championship.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_02]: And Indiana, I've talked to a lot of people this week that have been like, does Miami even have a shot?
- 55:34[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like,
- 55:35[SPEAKER_02]: That's a weird narrative, considering it's Miami against Indiana.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_02]: I did see a stat that every time Miami is one national title, they beat a team wearing either crimson or red, three times against Nebraska, one time against Oklahoma, one time against Alabama.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: I would go with that.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_03]: There's the key analysis.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if you're listening.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_03]: OK, thank you, Ken.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_03]: If you are listening to the podcast, you got to check the video because Ken is wearing his orange and green as he is giving us this breakdown.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_03]: So look at this, he's tapping the use.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, he's going to that.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's getting all of this.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if he's all of everything.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_02]: the fees all and on the other hand I did grow up on the other hand I did grow up with IU offensive coordinator Mike Shannon and he was a neighbor in my dad's neighborhood and used to play basketball and football in our backyard.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_02]: So if somehow Miami's not going to win I'll least be happy for Mike Shannon and that you know I've known him since he was
- 56:34[SPEAKER_02]: ten years old so uh you know it's cool to see him do well and it's cool to see Frank Signetti or going hurtsignetti do well so they have a lot of Pittsburghers on their staff but yeah I'm ready to go I'm ready to watch my army hopefully get their six title wait cover all the bases they pat yeah what was the spread against Ohio State for nine and a half yeah right there's less so yeah it is it is
- 57:01[SPEAKER_03]: We'll say, I don't know, I was strange as this is, say, Indiana's a different animal than Ohio State.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_03]: No, it's topic count.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's all we're thinking about that.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_03]: We've got to, we got to wrap with this guys.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_03]: This is, we, I've been sitting on this one waiting.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_03]: This is, this is your show and it's, maybe, might be a show under literally, but this might be our last show, just because this is so stupid.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_03]: But, um, story out of New Jersey,
- 57:30[SPEAKER_03]: And it's from nj.com, which used to be the Newark Star Ledger.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_03]: The lead art is absolutely inspired, a fantastic, a black and white shot of this bar that we're going to talk about with a full-color photo shop in front, walrus, staring at us with the giant tusks, sat eyes, the blubber, the old deal.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_03]: uh... the bar is named donkeys place it is encamped in new jersey for the story is well known for its iconic cheese steaks uh... and it had a a bar keepsake that was kept behind the bar that uh... they became also known for
- 58:20[SPEAKER_03]: renown for having an antique walrus penis bone.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_03]: Honour Rob Lucas Jr.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_03]: I said that as kept a walrus baccalaum, a bone in the penis of many mammals.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_03]: This was all new to me.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_03]: I knew none of this.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_03]: I hope that far for as long as he can
- 58:47[SPEAKER_03]: uh... popular conversation piece sits alongside a magaladon tooth and several other artifacts interesting bar uh... anyway people would come in and ask a watch that and they would tell them and apparently uh... you know they let them check out the the walrus thing and uh...
- 59:09[SPEAKER_03]: as it is the quote goes from the bar on or the bartender handed it out for them to figure out what it was.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_03]: She went to the back to do something else and then one dude stole it.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_03]: We got his picture, but I don't think he's from around town.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_03]: So there's a stolen walrus bone of note.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_03]: Running around or it's not running around, but somebody's
- 59:37[SPEAKER_03]: Gentlemen, what do you do with that if you have stolen it?
- 59:41[SPEAKER_03]: Would you steal it if you had the chance?
- 59:43[SPEAKER_03]: And what would you do with it?
- 59:45[SPEAKER_03]: Jean, this is a question Taylor made for you.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_03]: You're sitting there with your arms crossed and look on your face like, I get me out of this.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to believe that we can't get a full-time sponsor for this podcast.
- 59:57[SPEAKER_01]: Isn't it?
- 59:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's just stunning that we can't get somebody wants to sponsor this podcast.
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_01]: Anthony Bourdain, the great chef, actually visited Donkeys Place and called it Sublime.
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_01]: They're Poppy Seed, Bun, Round Poppy Seed, Bun, Cheesecake Sandwich.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great place for cheese steaks.
- 1:00:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's iconic when it comes to cheese steaks and we're talking about a walrus penis here.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_01]: So certainly I've lost my appetite.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_01]: That's a given.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_01]: I have no comment about this.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe Pat, you're one of the most decorated sports calmness sports journalist in the country and this is what you choose to ask Brian and me today.
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm speechless.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_01]: So no, I don't have any kind of nodded.
- 1:00:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what you would do with this.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_01]: What would you do with this?
- 1:01:00[SPEAKER_01]: What would you just what I just brought home?
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I just don't, I don't know.
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know where you go with this.
- 1:01:07[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, if the guy truly was not from around there as the borrower or ledges, you know, if he's taking it on a plane, what is the TSA going to say?
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when they scan a bag through there, I'm just,
- 1:01:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying, what does that show up on the scanner for, you know, will they get the extra search on that one?
- 1:01:25[SPEAKER_00]: I am curious, you know, is this an inside job?
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, for the bartender do hand it over to somebody and then to go to the back conveniently and have all this local press.
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_00]: Now now, national podcasts.
- 1:01:37[SPEAKER_00]: discussing this place saying that it's in Camden, you know, maybe it's a little little, I mean, I don't want to go full conspiracy theorists, but I do kind of wonder is this in a bit of an insect job for some additional press and some free advertising if you will for the bar.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just throwing that possibility out there because I don't know what anybody would do with this outside of putting it somewhere in their their man cave or whatever and doing the exact same this bar owner Do you know what that is?
- 1:02:07[SPEAKER_00]: Do you know you won't know what that is when when their friends come over and have a few beers that to me is this reeks of an inside job if you will
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_03]: uh... the inside job theory is better than the theory that indiana has pirated people's catapult video so you know i'll give you that much um... yeah you know what look i mean i think this should
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_03]: I think this should be what our nation's law enforcement should be on finding out where the walrus bone went.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_03]: Why?
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_03]: Who got it?
- 1:02:39[SPEAKER_03]: What they're doing?
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_03]: So I would advocate for local and national law enforcement to get on this case immediately, find out by the time that we have our next show so we can give everybody an update because I'm going to be a working
- 1:02:56[SPEAKER_03]: Provided we have an extra will see maybe a phone call from the boss after this one air saying, you know, let's not, but, you know, that's what this is what people want to know.
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_03]: We will have people clamoring to find out the whereabouts of the walrus bone.
- 1:03:11[SPEAKER_01]: No, Pat.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_01]: I can already see the press release from from SI.
