- 0:00Speaker 1: We're heading to Chicago because we want to save Chicago.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Do you know they head over four thousand people killed
- 0:05Speaker 1: in Chicago, over shoed four thousand people. And I have
- 0:09Speaker 1: to watch the slap of a governor stand up and
- 0:12Speaker 1: say that, well, everything's okay. We've got it under control.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Here in Chicago. We have brought prime down precipitously. The President,
- 0:19Speaker 2: on the other hand, has some idea in his head
- 0:22Speaker 2: that things are getting worse and worse. It's a hellhole.
- 0:24Speaker 2: It's some kind of hellscape in Chicago or in Illinois.
- 0:29Speaker 3: And we are joined now by Illinois Governor JB.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Pritsker.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Governor Prisker, thank you for joining us this morning. I
- 0:34Speaker 3: know you just heard Vice President of Vance. He didn't
- 0:37Speaker 3: directly answer whether he agreed with President Trump and you've
- 0:40Speaker 3: committed a crime, But what he did say was it
- 0:42Speaker 3: seems pretty criminal to him your behavior. What's your response, Well.
- 0:48Speaker 2: You just heard a title wave of lies from the
- 0:51Speaker 2: Vice president of the United States. It's a bit shocking,
- 0:56Speaker 2: and you heard over and over again him just making
- 1:00Speaker 2: things up on national television with you. There's a reason
- 1:04Speaker 2: why the judge here in federal court said that the
- 1:09Speaker 2: administration lacks credibility and why even the Nobel Prize committee
- 1:14Speaker 2: chair said that the administration lacks integrity. This administration, led
- 1:21Speaker 2: by a thirty four time convicted felon, is threatening to
- 1:25Speaker 2: jail people that are their political opponents. They're making things
- 1:30Speaker 2: up to go after people. We're seeing it day in
- 1:32Speaker 2: and day out, and the fact that he's made a
- 1:35Speaker 2: threat against me, I'm not afraid. I'm going to stand
- 1:39Speaker 2: up for the people of my state. And we've got
- 1:42Speaker 2: to all stand together because there is truly unconstitutional actions
- 1:46Speaker 2: that are coming out of this administration coming at the
- 1:49Speaker 2: states and the people of the United States, and all
- 1:52Speaker 2: of us Democrats and Republicans need to speak out about it.
- 1:56Speaker 2: One thing I'd point out. You mentioned Governor Stitt who
- 1:59Speaker 2: said specifically we shouldn't be federalizing troops in one state
- 2:03Speaker 2: and sending them into another. That he would be offended
- 2:07Speaker 2: if I had troops going into his state. I am
- 2:10Speaker 2: offended that Greg Abbott has troops coming into my state.
- 2:14Speaker 2: And even Governor Scott in Vermont has called this unconstitutional.
- 2:18Speaker 2: So good news. Republicans are now calling out the Trump administration.
- 2:23Speaker 2: More should do so.
- 2:24Speaker 3: As you know, President Trump called for the prosecution of James.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Call me, it happened. He called for the prosecution of
- 2:29Speaker 3: Letitia James, and it happened. He said, you committed a crime.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Are you worried that just Forrman is going to come
- 2:34Speaker 3: after you.
- 2:37Speaker 2: It's true that the president says things and sometimes he
- 2:40Speaker 2: follows through on those threats, and he certainly has the
- 2:42Speaker 2: power of the presidency. He does not have the power
- 2:45Speaker 2: to overcome the Constitution. And so am I afraid. I
- 2:51Speaker 2: am not afraid. Do I think that he could do it.
- 2:53Speaker 2: He might, But as I've said before, come and get me.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I mean, you're dead wrong, mister President and mister Vice President,
- 3:01Speaker 2: and I will stand up for the law and the constitution.
- 3:05Speaker 2: That's what we do in the state of Illinois.
- 3:08Speaker 3: The latest federal judge has allowed troops from Texas to
- 3:12Speaker 3: remain in Illinois, but said they can't be deployed in Chicago.
- 3:15Speaker 3: What is the situation exactly on the ground right now.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Well, there are federalized troops that have been sent here
- 3:22Speaker 2: from Texas. They are in a federal facility. They're not
- 3:26Speaker 2: allowed to come onto the streets of Chicago or our
- 3:29Speaker 2: suburbs or anywhere in Illinois. According to the determination of
- 3:33Speaker 2: the judge. We have also troops from California, not sent
- 3:36Speaker 2: by California, but rather by the President when they were
- 3:40Speaker 2: deterred from Oregon. So we've got two states, other states troops,
- 3:45Speaker 2: and of course the Illinois National Guard that's been federalized
- 3:48Speaker 2: and under the direction of the President of the United States.
- 3:51Speaker 2: None are allowed on the streets of Chicago right now
- 3:53Speaker 2: because we've won the temporary restraining order and the appeal
- 3:58Speaker 2: of that tro and we hope to continue to win. Look,
- 4:02Speaker 2: we've got to rely on the courts to do the
- 4:04Speaker 2: right thing. I realize that sometimes that's risky business, especially
- 4:09Speaker 2: when some have been appointed by Donald Trump. But we've
- 4:13Speaker 2: seen that even a Trump appointed judge out in California
- 4:17Speaker 2: in the West Coast has ruled against the administration. So
- 4:20Speaker 2: I do think that their oath of office actually matters
- 4:23Speaker 2: to them and that they'll make the right determination.
- 4:26Speaker 3: But as you just heard Vice President van say that
- 4:28Speaker 3: those troops are necessary because under your watch and of
- 4:30Speaker 3: the watch of the mayor of Chicago, the streets have
- 4:33Speaker 3: been given over to lawlessness. Those are his words.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Well, you know they've said that that Portland is on fire.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Portland is not on fire in Chicago. We've cut the
- 4:43Speaker 2: homicide rate in half. We've got double digit declines in
- 4:46Speaker 2: all of our violent crime statistics. He says that we've
- 4:50Speaker 2: got the highest crime rate in the entire world. That's ridiculous.
- 4:53Speaker 2: We're not even in the top twenty five cities in
- 4:57Speaker 2: the United States, and Illinois itself is the nineteenth safest
- 5:01Speaker 2: state in the United States. I'd like to be in
- 5:04Speaker 2: the top ten, but nineteenth is a whole heck of
- 5:06Speaker 2: a lot better than Texas or Florida.
- 5:09Speaker 3: But if the President invokes the Insurrection Act, there's not
- 5:11Speaker 3: much you can do, is there.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Well, the Insurrection Act is called the Insurrection Act for
- 5:18Speaker 2: a reason. There has to be a rebellion. There has
- 5:21Speaker 2: to be an insurrection in order for him to be
- 5:23Speaker 2: allowed to invoke it again. He can say anything he wants.
- 5:27Speaker 2: But if the Constitution means anything, and I guess we
- 5:31Speaker 2: all are questioning that right now, but the courts will
- 5:33Speaker 2: make the determination. If the Constitution means anything, the Insurrection
- 5:37Speaker 2: Act cannot be invoked to send them in because they
- 5:41Speaker 2: want to fight crime. Let me add that they're claiming
- 5:44Speaker 2: in court that that's not the reason that they're calling
- 5:46Speaker 2: up troops to send them into our states. They're claiming
- 5:50Speaker 2: in court that this is about protecting ICE facilities and
- 5:54Speaker 2: ICE agents and not about crime on the streets. But
- 5:58Speaker 2: then you hear Vice President Advance and the President of
- 6:01Speaker 2: the United States contravening that and saying exactly what they
- 6:06Speaker 2: actually think. They just want troops on the ground because
- 6:09Speaker 2: they want to militarize, especially blue cities and blue states.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Governor Pritsker, thanks for your time this morning.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Thank you, George
