- 0:00Speaker 1: It's the Mark Simone Show. Live from the WOR LifeVac studios. Well,
- 0:07Speaker 1: it's going to be a beautiful day today. It's going
- 0:10Speaker 1: to be a sunny day today. Rain tomorrow, but a
- 0:12Speaker 1: sunny day today. Don't forget, it's 9 to noon every day.
- 0:15Speaker 1: You know, the reason they were such a push to
- 0:17Speaker 1: expand this show to an extra hour is we do
- 0:21Speaker 1: very well with commercials. As you can hear, advertisers do
- 0:25Speaker 1: very well on this show. We've got a great, very, very,
- 0:27Speaker 1: very upscale sort of audience that they like. So I
- 0:33Speaker 1: couldn't get all the commercials in in two hours. And
- 0:36Speaker 1: we had advertisers waiting to get on. And there was
- 0:38Speaker 1: this push to make it three hours. And we've done
- 0:41Speaker 1: three hours. And I said, are you sure you have
- 0:43Speaker 1: enough advertisers to fill three hours? Well, I think we've
- 0:47Speaker 1: answered that question. Listen to some of these breaks. Plenty
- 0:52Speaker 1: of advertisers. But hey, President Trump was a huge Dolly
- 0:56Speaker 1: Parton fan. He really loved Dolly Parton. He's a country
- 0:59Speaker 1: music fan, but really had a lot of respect for
- 1:03Speaker 1: Dolly Parton. Ordered all the flags and all the U.S.
- 1:06Speaker 1: government buildings all over America, half staff. It started last
- 1:11Speaker 1: night at 6 o'clock. And expect him to come up
- 1:16Speaker 1: with something, some sort of big tribute to Dolly Parton
- 1:18Speaker 1: that he'll want to do. You know, she had this
- 1:21Speaker 1: thing about politics. She wanted nothing to do with politics anymore.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Just personally, and she also knew career-wise, it was a
- 1:29Speaker 1: very smart thing to stay the hell away from politics,
- 1:33Speaker 1: from politicians. That's why you never see her with any politicians.
- 1:37Speaker 1: There were a number of times the Clintons wanted to
- 1:39Speaker 1: do something with her. Not a campaign rally, but just
- 1:44Speaker 1: have her together with the Clintons for something, and they
- 1:46Speaker 1: would take a picture. She would avoid it. She just...
- 1:51Speaker 1: Did not want to have anything to do with politics.
- 1:53Speaker 1: She loved President Trump, but she stayed the hell away
- 1:55Speaker 1: from him. Did not want to be associated with anything
- 1:58Speaker 1: political or any politicians. Because she knew, career-wise, if you
- 2:02Speaker 1: take a side, you'll lose half your audience. Stephen Colbert,
- 2:06Speaker 1: are you listening to this? She knew it was smart
- 2:09Speaker 1: to avoid anything political. Let's take some calls. Let's go
- 2:14Speaker 1: to beautiful Garden City, one of the most beautiful suburbs
- 2:18Speaker 1: in America. Let's go to Keith in Garden City. Keith,
- 2:20Speaker 1: how are you doing?
- 2:22Speaker 2: Pretty good, Mark. Thanks for taking my call. Love the
- 2:25Speaker 2: extra hour.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I was calling about the data centers. Somebody told me
- 2:30Speaker 2: that golf courses use more water than data centers. And
- 2:35Speaker 2: I don't know if you know any truth to that.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I have three golf courses in my town and no
- 2:39Speaker 2: shortage of water.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Garden City, you got the Garden City Country Club, the
- 2:43Speaker 1: golf club, that old club been there 100 years. You
- 2:45Speaker 1: got the Wyndham has a golf club, right? And what's
- 2:49Speaker 1: the other one?
- 2:50Speaker 2: No. Cherry Valley.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Cherry Valley, that's right. So I think Garden City would
- 2:56Speaker 1: be good for a data center. We'll put it right
- 2:58Speaker 1: on 7th Street next to Ivorone.
- 3:02Speaker 2: No, no, that's bad.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Where Tony's Tacos are. Maybe in that parking lot.
- 3:11Speaker 2: You're making me hungry. You know, the Chinese, they spent
- 3:15Speaker 2: all this money convincing these people that these data centers
- 3:17Speaker 2: are bad. They do the same thing. They back any
- 3:20Speaker 2: candidate that's anti-mining because they want to control all the minerals.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And we as Americans, we fall for these fake crises.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I remember as a kid on Long Island, they said
- 3:29Speaker 2: aerosol cans were going to kill the ozone layer. You
- 3:32Speaker 2: know how many hairspray cans were used up in the
- 3:35Speaker 2: 80s on Long Island?
- 3:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:37Speaker 2: What do we use today? Aerosol cans are still here today.
- 3:40Speaker 1: No, you're right. And it's a very, very good point.
- 3:43Speaker 1: This is a democratic tactic. They do this all the time.
- 3:47Speaker 1: They've always done this. It's the way they campaign. It's
- 3:50Speaker 1: the way they run. Media jumps in and helps them too.
- 3:53Speaker 1: They have to always create a boogeyman, something they're fighting,
- 3:57Speaker 1: a boogeyman. This whole tactic started with the French Revolution.
- 4:00Speaker 1: They did it then. Ann Coulter wrote a book about
- 4:02Speaker 1: it called Demonic. Is she on later? Yeah, she's on
- 4:05Speaker 1: later today. We'll ask her about it. They always create
- 4:08Speaker 1: this boogeyman that they're battling against. It was nuclear plants before.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Now it's data centers. They've replaced the nuclear plants and
- 4:16Speaker 1: they always do this. You know, like they're, they're fighting
- 4:19Speaker 1: the mega extremists. Nobody knows who the hell, who are
- 4:23Speaker 1: these mega extremists or the mega people? Nobody knows who
- 4:26Speaker 1: you're talking about. You remember every, every campaign, the last one,
- 4:31Speaker 1: it was the alt-right. Nobody knew what the hell the
- 4:34Speaker 1: alt-right was. And then at one point it was QAnon,
- 4:38Speaker 1: which was some chat group on the internet, but they
- 4:40Speaker 1: were battling QAnon and they were, Always battling these different forces.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Let's go to Paul Roslin, another great suburb. Roslin, Long Island. Paul,
- 4:49Speaker 1: how are you doing? Good morning, Mark.
- 4:51Speaker 3: How are you?
- 4:52Speaker 1: Good.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Good. I just wanted to mention to you that Dolly
- 4:56Speaker 3: Parton was played tremendously on 106.7 many years ago.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Light FM? Yeah.
- 5:04Speaker 3: No, it wasn't Light FM. It was WKHK, Kick FM.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Oh, that's right. You know, it used to be a
- 5:10Speaker 1: country station. WKHK. And it was a country station. It
- 5:15Speaker 1: was like 14th place. And then they became Light FM.
- 5:17Speaker 1: It became the number one station in New York. It's
- 5:19Speaker 1: right down the hall there, right at the end of
- 5:21Speaker 1: our hall. That's Light FM.
- 5:22Speaker 3: I know. They brought in all these DJs from the South.
- 5:27Speaker 3: And the station didn't last, obviously, because there wasn't country music.
- 5:32Speaker 3: It wasn't so popular then.
- 5:33Speaker 1: No.
- 5:34Speaker 3: But I remember listening to it when they did have it.
- 5:36Speaker 3: And I think it was your company that had it, right? Yeah.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Well, it was country under a different company.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Right, under a different company. But anyway, she was really incredible.
- 5:46Speaker 3: What a personality.
- 5:48Speaker 1: You're in Roslyn, New York. Hey, the Jolly Fisherman is gone,
- 5:51Speaker 1: but it's about to become an incredible new restaurant.
- 5:54Speaker 3: I know. I don't know what it's going to become yet.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Oh, it's going to be unbelievable. Gillis Pole, the Pole Brothers.
- 5:58Speaker 1: These guys are the greatest restaurant.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Right, the Pole Brothers. They own everything.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Well, they're the best restaurant guys probably in America, but
- 6:03Speaker 1: definitely in Long Island.
- 6:04Speaker 3: You're not kidding. God, they are unbelievable. But I listen
- 6:08Speaker 3: to you every day, and just you are absolutely sensational.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Just keep doing what you're doing.
- 6:13Speaker 1: All right.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Thanks for calling. Yeah, Light FM was WKHK. Remember the
- 6:19Speaker 1: big country station was WHN, AM 1050, WHN, the country station,
- 6:25Speaker 1: with Del DeMontreau and all those sort of guys, and
- 6:28Speaker 1: Larry Kenney. Remember Larry Kenney? Great guy. And then it
- 6:32Speaker 1: switched to.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Sports.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Remember? Yeah. It became WFAN. That was where the original
- 6:38Speaker 1: WFAN was. So some people thought, well, there's a need
- 6:42Speaker 1: for a country station. We'll create a country station on FM.
- 6:45Speaker 1: And it never quite works in New York. Whenever they
- 6:48Speaker 1: do a country station, they can't figure out why it
- 6:50Speaker 1: doesn't work in New York. Well, Walk around Manhattan, you
- 6:54Speaker 1: don't see a lot of McLeod cowboy hats here. I mean,
- 6:58Speaker 1: it's not a country city. I mean, I love country music,
- 7:03Speaker 1: and there are people. If you go way out in
- 7:05Speaker 1: Long Island, you'll find some country fans. But if you're
- 7:07Speaker 1: in Roslyn and Manhasset, there's not a lot of country
- 7:10Speaker 1: fans there. When you see those people, you go, how
- 7:13Speaker 1: are you? They're not big country listeners. So it didn't work.
- 7:17Speaker 1: It became Light FM, which, by the way, was controversial
- 7:20Speaker 1: at the time. Nobody understood the format. Light FM where
- 7:23Speaker 1: you just play light music. What kind of became the
- 7:26Speaker 1: number one station. It is still today right now down
- 7:30Speaker 1: the hall. That station is the number one highest rated
- 7:34Speaker 1: most listened to station in America. Number one radio station. Uh,
- 7:39Speaker 1: and always has been for like a million, you know,
- 7:42Speaker 1: right on this floor in the morning right now we
- 7:45Speaker 1: reach about, I don't know, like 22 million people or something.
- 7:48Speaker 1: You got, uh, Charlemagne over there, he's got like 8
- 7:51Speaker 1: million listeners. You got Elvis Duran down the hall, he's
- 7:55Speaker 1: probably got 9 million listeners, 10 million listeners. You got
- 7:59Speaker 1: Light FM, the number one single most listened to morning
- 8:02Speaker 1: show station in America. You got Q104, it's like the
- 8:06Speaker 1: number three station in New York. You got, what else
- 8:09Speaker 1: is here? KTU is one of the great stations. I'm
- 8:14Speaker 1: missing something. That's it, I think. Well, of course, WOR,
- 8:20Speaker 1: you see, we get the other, we get like an
- 8:23Speaker 1: older audience, but it's the very, very upscale audience. That's
- 8:27Speaker 1: the big reason people advertise here. It's a very upscale audience.
- 8:32Speaker 1: And that's why they say, ah, all I hear are
- 8:34Speaker 1: gold companies. Well, the reason the gold companies are here,
- 8:36Speaker 1: they're not looking for you to buy something for $ 3.
- 8:40Speaker 1: They're looking for a real investor. So this is the
- 8:42Speaker 1: kind of station where you can get that kind of action. Hey,
- 8:45Speaker 1: it's 9 to noon every day now. I'm on 9
- 8:48Speaker 1: to noon, three hours, 9 a.m. till noon every day.
- 8:52Speaker 1: We'll get back to Dolly Parton. We've got a lot
- 8:54Speaker 1: to talk about with her. We'll get to Hillary Clinton
- 8:57Speaker 1: going crazy with her comments, and it looks like she's
- 9:00Speaker 1: running in 2028. But we'll get to all of that
- 9:02Speaker 1: coming up. And then don't forget, at noon, it's Buck, Sexton,
- 9:05Speaker 1: and Clay Travis. That's one of the most listened to
- 9:08Speaker 1: radio shows in America, millions of listeners. Then at 3 o'clock,
- 9:12Speaker 1: we have the single most listened to Radio show in America.
- 9:16Speaker 1: It's like 16 and a half million listeners. Sean Hannity,
- 9:19Speaker 1: 3 o'clock. And then you got Jesse Kelly at 6.
- 9:21Speaker 1: And you got the very funny Jimmy Fallon every night,
- 9:25Speaker 1: 9 to midnight, here on 710WOR.
