- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Five Good Minutes.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: You're listening to today's inspirational message on the book of Genesis with Dan Irvin.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: Welcome back into Five Good Minutes podcast today as we jump back into Genesis chapter 40.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: And as the story continues with Joseph in this chapter and now the chief cupbearer and the chief baker, we look at verse 8.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: We ended with verse 8 the last time we were together, and I want to read the second half of verse 8, where both men came to Joseph and said, We both had dreams, but there is no one to interpret them.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: And Joseph said something that's really important in the second half of verse 8.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: He said, Joseph said to them, Do not interpretations belong to God.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: Now tell me your dreams.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: And he goes on in the next few verses to interpret these dreams.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: But that phrase, do not interpretations belong to God.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: That was Joseph's true posture, his heart.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: He knew that he didn't know everything.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: He didn't have everything all figured out.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: But he knows God.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: But he knows that God of all creation is the king of dreams, of thoughts, of anxieties.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: And he pointed these men straight to God.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: You know, the world that we are living in today in present day, if we want answers to something, it's easier now to find those answers than it's ever been before.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: With technology and AI and Google and everything that we have right at our fingertips, we can have opinions, we can have research, we can have a plan in a matter of minutes if we need a plan.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: We can have a spreadsheet built out for us with all the different ways that we could go.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: And there's nothing wrong, essentially, with plans or coming up with a strategy or looking for wisdom in some of these advancements.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: But I think underneath all of that can be an assumption that if I as a human being am able to understand, to make sense of how the world works, then I can have this element of control.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: You know, in the book of Genesis here, this chapter 40 tells a different story.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: You know, there are dreams that we won't understand, there's circumstances that we won't understand, there are things that God has not yet told us about our life.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: It's part of what it means to have faith in God, in Jesus.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: I can remember as a kid, one thing that drove me nuts is, you know, on a road trip in the car with mom or dad, and as a kid, as every kid is probably asked, you know, where are we going?
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: Well, you'll see.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Are we there yet?
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: Almost.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: How much longer?
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: We'll be there when we get there.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: Those types of answers as a kid drove me nuts because I wanted to know exactly how we were getting there, when we were going to be there, when the road trip was going to come to end.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: I wanted to know all of the details.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: But what I didn't realize at the time, and especially as a little kid, is I had something even better than knowing the final destination or knowing exactly when we'd arrive.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: That I had a driver in the front seat of the car, mom or dad, who loved me and cared for me, and their desire was to get me to where we were going safely.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: Get me to where we are going when we could get there.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: You know, that is the ultimate reality of what it's like to have faith in Christ.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: While we may not know all the details about how we are getting to where we are going, we can trust that the driver of the car is for us, that his desire is to protect us.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: We may not always be protected.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: We may not always have things work out the way we think they should work out.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: There may be fender benders along the way, there may be major accidents along the way.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: But that doesn't mean that the driver of the car doesn't love us, doesn't care about us, doesn't want the best for us, doesn't desire to get us to that destination.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: You know, Joseph in this moment, he could have said, you know what?
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: Okay, dreams, that's my thing.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: I got that.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: I'm actually really good at this.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Let me take a crack at it.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: No, Joseph first put himself in a position of saying, I don't know the answers, but God does.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: And when God speaks, we should listen.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Now the story of the Bible, the story of Christianity is that Jesus was called into this world to speak, was called into this world to make God known, to be a visible presence of the invisible God.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: It talks about that in the book of Colossians today.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: How can you put your faith more in the promise of Jesus and less in your own abilities?
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: God, will you help us in this endeavor to remember how good you are, how you want us to arrive at our destination, God, and you love us and care about us so much.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: Can we put our faith and trust more in you today?
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: In that promise.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: Thanks for joining us here today.
