- 0:00Speaker 1: Mr.
- 0:00Speaker 2: New York, Mark Simone on 710WOR.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Well, hey, you know, every year, every presidential year, every
- 0:13Speaker 1: four years, there's a presidential race. And, of course, each
- 0:15Speaker 1: party has its convention, you know, the big convention, Democratic Convention,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Republican Convention. So this year is an off year. It's midterms.
- 0:26Speaker 1: But the Republicans, I guess President Trump came up with this.
- 0:29Speaker 1: They decided to have a midterm convention. It's just like
- 0:32Speaker 1: in a presidential year. They have a big convention. This
- 0:35Speaker 1: is going to be in Dallas. Is it next week?
- 0:38Speaker 1: I think it's this coming week. September 9th to the 10th. Yeah,
- 0:42Speaker 1: in Dallas. So that would be next week. Now, the
- 0:46Speaker 1: problem is, apparently, a lot of the Republicans in Congress
- 0:51Speaker 1: aren't going to go to this midterm convention. They did
- 0:54Speaker 1: a survey of 70. Republican house members, 45 said they
- 0:59Speaker 1: will skip the event. So that's the majority of them, uh,
- 1:02Speaker 1: skipping it. It, uh, they said it's a little disorganized
- 1:06Speaker 1: and they don't want to, they don't want to go. So, uh,
- 1:08Speaker 1: it'll be next week. You'll see some good speeches there.
- 1:11Speaker 1: The president will go, uh, he'll make some major names,
- 1:14Speaker 1: make sure they show up, but, uh, it may not be, uh,
- 1:19Speaker 1: the big event it's, uh, it's supposed to be. So, uh, Iran,
- 1:25Speaker 1: we hit them hard overnight. We'll probably continue to do
- 1:28Speaker 1: that the rest of the week. Scott Besant hitting them
- 1:34Speaker 1: very hard economically, just draining them financially. And whatever they
- 1:39Speaker 1: got snuck away in some Swiss bank account or somewhere,
- 1:44Speaker 1: Besant is going after it, and he'll get it. We're
- 1:47Speaker 1: also continuing the war. With Canada. It's not really a war.
- 1:51Speaker 1: It's just love trolling them, tweaking them. We got this premier,
- 1:58Speaker 1: prime minister, Carney. Prime minister Carney lashing out.
- 2:03Speaker 2: And when the Americans stop doing memes, stop throwing shade,
- 2:08Speaker 2: stop trying to be tough, and start being serious about
- 2:12Speaker 2: having those discussions, we can have those discussions. But look,
- 2:15Speaker 2: it's not constructive, but.
- 2:17Speaker 1: That's their democracy. All right, he's not exactly Churchill, but
- 2:21Speaker 1: what do you want? It's Canada. So, hey, Meghan Markle
- 2:26Speaker 1: and Prince Harry, they've gone back to England. They, you know,
- 2:31Speaker 1: set up in Montecito, California in a big mansion, ready
- 2:36Speaker 1: to make a fortune, ready to become bigger than the Kardashians.
- 2:40Speaker 1: And they got a couple of deals, Netflix and Spotify,
- 2:43Speaker 1: and they totally bombed out. And that was the end
- 2:45Speaker 1: of it. And a couple of years have gone by
- 2:47Speaker 1: and they can't get anything going. Nothing. So they're going
- 2:50Speaker 1: back to England. Apparently, Meghan Markle is a nightmare to
- 2:54Speaker 1: deal with. King Charles may not be wrong about her.
- 2:58Speaker 1: That may be the reason that he's kind of disowned
- 3:02Speaker 1: his own son. Doesn't want anything to do with him
- 3:04Speaker 1: or Meghan Markle. Although apparently Camilla is trying to maybe
- 3:10Speaker 1: thaw the relationship a little. So they're going to England.
- 3:14Speaker 1: They're there. Uh, they arrived on a private jet, spent
- 3:18Speaker 1: a fortune on a private jet, and then a caravan
- 3:21Speaker 1: of SUVs picked them up. They're looking for a house.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Meghan Markle, apparently driving the real estate people crazy. She
- 3:29Speaker 1: wants nine bedrooms. She must have nine bedrooms and it
- 3:32Speaker 1: must have a film studio in it, or at least something,
- 3:37Speaker 1: a building on the grounds, something where they could build
- 3:39Speaker 1: a film studio, uh, Apparently in Montecito, they also have
- 3:45Speaker 1: nine bedrooms and a film studio. That place costs $ 15 million.
- 3:50Speaker 1: She wants this film studio because she thinks she's going
- 3:52Speaker 1: to have a big career media-wise and wants to be
- 3:56Speaker 1: able to produce everything at home. Listen, they bombed out
- 4:01Speaker 1: in California. I don't know what they're going to get
- 4:03Speaker 1: going in England. They need to hire staff, maids, servants, housekeepers.
- 4:09Speaker 1: But apparently she's a nightmare at that, too. described as
- 4:14Speaker 1: extremely rude. And in California, in the housekeeper community, she
- 4:22Speaker 1: was known for that. Word spread quickly. You might not
- 4:24Speaker 1: want to even go for an interview because you don't
- 4:27Speaker 1: want to work for this maniac, Meghan Markle. Apparently, the
- 4:31Speaker 1: interview process is you come in with your resume. You're told,
- 4:37Speaker 1: do not speak to her. Hand over your resume and
- 4:41Speaker 1: and then go stand off to the side of the room.
- 4:44Speaker 1: You are told not to speak to her. Do not
- 4:46Speaker 1: make eye contact. She will sit there and review your
- 4:50Speaker 1: resume and decide whether you're hired or not. You do
- 4:55Speaker 1: not speak to her. I mean, what a lunatic. It's
- 4:57Speaker 1: not like she's some big star. She was in the
- 4:59Speaker 1: show Suits. It's not like she starred in the show Suits.
- 5:03Speaker 1: She was like 15th billing in that show. Pretty much
- 5:08Speaker 1: a minor character in the show. She wasn't Harvey Specter.
- 5:12Speaker 1: speaking of TV shows, remember 30 Rock, the great show
- 5:15Speaker 1: 30 Rock, they're going to do a big reunion, a
- 5:18Speaker 1: 20th anniversary reunion, it'll take place at Radio City, Sunday,
- 5:24Speaker 1: October 11th, tickets will be available, I think you can
- 5:26Speaker 1: get them now, if you want to see this, the
- 5:29Speaker 1: whole cast will be back, Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan,
- 5:35Speaker 1: the whole rest of the cast, they'll be there, and
- 5:38Speaker 1: I don't know exactly what they're going to do, but
- 5:39Speaker 1: it's on the stage of Radio City Music Hall. I
- 5:42Speaker 1: imagine the real point of this is to film the
- 5:44Speaker 1: whole thing and turn it into some sort of a
- 5:47Speaker 1: big Netflix special or streaming special. Or maybe NBC will
- 5:52Speaker 1: want to use it. But if you want to get tickets,
- 5:55Speaker 1: it's October 11th. Radio City Music Hall. Hey, speaking of
- 6:00Speaker 1: streaming and all of that, Apple TV just raised the
- 6:04Speaker 1: price again. You know, when Apple TV started, it was
- 6:07Speaker 1: $ 4. 99 a month. That's about five years ago, six years ago. Well,
- 6:12Speaker 1: all of a sudden, it's $ 14. 99 a month. And all
- 6:16Speaker 1: the streaming services are driving people crazy, raising the price.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Peacock went from $ 10. 99 to $ 12.
- 6:22Speaker 2: 99.
- 6:22Speaker 1: It's a 27% hike. It's a lot to hike every year. Netflix,
- 6:31Speaker 1: everybody raising their prices. And we kept telling you this
- 6:35Speaker 1: all along. The reason people got rid of the cable...
- 6:39Speaker 1: is your cable bill was $ 50 a month, $ 40 a month.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Next thing you know, it's $ 100 a month. Next thing
- 6:42Speaker 1: you know, it's $ 200 a month. It was crazy. So
- 6:45Speaker 1: people started cutting their cable service and going with the streaming.
- 6:48Speaker 1: But it's just a matter of time before streaming gets
- 6:52Speaker 1: you back up to $ 100, $ 200 a month with all
- 6:55Speaker 1: these different streaming services. Now, the only good news is
- 7:00Speaker 1: with cable, you can't eliminate all the channels you don't want,
- 7:03Speaker 1: but you can do it with streaming. And more and
- 7:06Speaker 1: more and more people are doing that. So you're going
- 7:09Speaker 1: to see a little rebellion against it. You know, there's
- 7:11Speaker 1: a lot of free TV out there that's great. YouTube, obviously.
- 7:14Speaker 1: You can watch anything on YouTube. And I love Pluto TV.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Pluto TV. It's free. It's got like 50 channels of television.
- 7:25Speaker 1: And each show has its own channel. There's a Blue
- 7:27Speaker 1: Bloods channel. 24 hours a day of Blue Bloods. There's
- 7:30Speaker 1: a Columbo channel. 24 hours a day of Columbo. There's
- 7:34Speaker 1: a channel like that for about 75 different shows. Plus,
- 7:37Speaker 1: they've got a lot of movies. And it's free. They
- 7:40Speaker 1: run a few commercials. Not a lot. But it's free.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Pluto TV. Tubi is another one. T-U-B-I. Great free services
- 7:49Speaker 1: out there. You don't need to pay for all this streaming. Now,
- 7:52Speaker 1: if you like to spend a lot of money, if
- 7:53Speaker 1: you like to waste a ton of money, I've got
- 7:55Speaker 1: the perfect thing for you. It's called the U.S.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Open.
- 7:58Speaker 1: It's at Forest Hills. It's taking place right now. It
- 8:02Speaker 1: goes to September 13th. 256 of the world's finest tennis players.
- 8:08Speaker 1: It's three weeks. Arthur Ashe Stadium, which, by the way,
- 8:12Speaker 1: they just renovated. They spent $ 800 million renovating it. One
- 8:17Speaker 1: of the reasons they renovated it is to put more
- 8:18Speaker 1: of those private clubs in there, those suites. That's where
- 8:21Speaker 1: they make all the real money. And 2,000 new courtside seats.
- 8:26Speaker 1: $ 800 million in renovations, but they can make a ton
- 8:29Speaker 1: of money off this. And they charge a fortune for everything.
- 8:32Speaker 1: The drinks are a fortune. The food is a fortune.
- 8:35Speaker 1: But if you really want to spend some money, you
- 8:37Speaker 1: can get these packages. There's one with the Mark Hotel.
- 8:42Speaker 1: The Mark's a beautiful hotel, Upper East Side, diagonally across
- 8:46Speaker 1: from the Carlisle. The Mark Hotel has a special package, U.S.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Open package. If you want to sign up for this,
- 8:53Speaker 1: it's $ 500, 000. The Grand Slam Extravaganza. which includes a four-night
- 9:01Speaker 1: stay for six guests in the Mark Penthouse. Okay, so
- 9:05Speaker 1: that brings it down to, well, 80,000 a person. You
- 9:10Speaker 1: can stay in the Penthouse. It is actually the largest
- 9:12Speaker 1: penthouse in the United States. You get six premium tickets
- 9:16Speaker 1: to the men's semifinals and final. You get a private
- 9:20Speaker 1: lesson with John McEnroe. What the hell is John McEnroe
- 9:25Speaker 1: sinking to with this private lesson? Guests will enjoy it.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Private sail aboard the Mark 70-foot sailboat. Caviar service. Bespoke
- 9:34Speaker 1: menus from the Mark restaurant. A very good restaurant in
- 9:38Speaker 1: the Mark by John George. And there's a caviar restaurant
- 9:41Speaker 1: on the other side. Private chauffeur service. Okay, this is $ 500, 000.
- 9:46Speaker 1: If you want to do this, go to the U.S.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Open.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I can't even watch the U.S.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Open.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I don't. I mean, I'm not a big tennis fan.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Every player has got these names. Gajokovic, Vovokovic. I don't
- 9:57Speaker 1: know who the hell all these players are. You want
- 10:00Speaker 1: something cheaper? The Latte Hotel, which used to be called
- 10:05Speaker 1: the Palace next to St. Patrick's. They got a $ 100, 000 package.
- 10:10Speaker 1: You get a two-night stay, 5,000-square-foot penthouse. You get four tickets,
- 10:15Speaker 1: four guests. You also get a $ 62, 000 12-cut diamond tennis bracelet.
- 10:23Speaker 1: People spend this on this stuff. You want to bargain?
- 10:27Speaker 1: The Ritz-Carlton. Ooh, and Nomad. They got a $ 20, 000 package.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Two-night stay in the penthouse. Honey deuce cocktails. Remember, that
- 10:36Speaker 1: was the big thing last year. Dinner for two at
- 10:40Speaker 1: Dahlia's Garden and Terrace. And a massage.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Okay. Okay.
- 10:45Speaker 1: It's only 29,000. That's the bargain package for you cheapskates
- 10:50Speaker 1: out there. Hey, in Michigan, you got the... Now, when
- 10:53Speaker 1: it comes to these primaries, Michigan's important because it's a
- 10:59Speaker 1: Democratic seat. It's currently a Democratic seat. The Democrat who
- 11:03Speaker 1: holds it is retiring, so it becomes an open seat.
- 11:06Speaker 1: So if they lose, it doesn't really affect the balance
- 11:09Speaker 1: in the Senate. But if they win, Republicans pick up
- 11:12Speaker 1: a seat. So it's important. And you got that crazy
- 11:15Speaker 1: El-Sayed running, the anti-Semite who's been hanging around with this
- 11:21Speaker 1: awful anti-Semite, Hassan Piker. But apparently El-Sayed is trying to
- 11:27Speaker 1: make peace with the Jewish Democrats. Not going to be
- 11:31Speaker 1: easy to do because he refuses to denounce Hassan Piker.
- 11:36Speaker 1: He distances himself, but he won't denounce him for his
- 11:40Speaker 1: crazy anti-Semitic stuff. So Piker, if he's doing that, trying
- 11:46Speaker 1: to go after the Jewish community, trying to make peace,
- 11:49Speaker 1: means his internal polling is not looking great. Not looking great. Hey,
- 11:55Speaker 1: there was to be a government shutdown, but they've avoided that.
- 11:58Speaker 1: A bill was passed to keep the government open through
- 12:02Speaker 1: the midterms. Here's Mike Johnson.
- 12:04Speaker 3: House Republicans are in charge here, and we're continuing to
- 12:06Speaker 3: do the grown-up thing and make sure we get the
- 12:08Speaker 3: job done. And we're happy that we just passed that
- 12:10Speaker 3: continued resolution to find the government through early December. And
- 12:14Speaker 3: they will continue through the process after the election.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yeah. So, yeah, must keep the government open. Except tomorrow
- 12:22Speaker 1: it's going to shut down for about five days because
- 12:24Speaker 1: it's Labor Day weekend. They all go away for the weekend.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I am too. But listen, there's a government shutdown every
- 12:30Speaker 1: Friday night till Monday morning. You can survive these government shutdowns. Hey,
- 12:36Speaker 1: Dolly Parton, you remember, you know, she grew up in
- 12:38Speaker 1: a cottage and she owned a small cottage in California.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Right down the road from Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch. It's
- 12:47Speaker 1: a small cottage. She owned a lot of real estate
- 12:49Speaker 1: all over the place. But apparently, a lot of interest
- 12:52Speaker 1: in that cottage. And there's a flurry of buyers showing up.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Want Dolly Parton's cottage. A lot of real estate. She
- 12:59Speaker 1: had an apartment here in New York. 800 Fifth Avenue.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Nice apartment. And, yeah. And a lot of interest in her.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Her music still continues to top the charts. for the
- 13:13Speaker 1: last week or so since her death. Hey, Massachusetts primary,
- 13:17Speaker 1: Ed Markey won last night, 80 years old. Now, he's
- 13:20Speaker 1: a youngster in Massachusetts. You know, in New England, they
- 13:23Speaker 1: got Bernie Sanders, who's 90. They got Elizabeth Warren, who's 80.
- 13:27Speaker 1: So this kid, Markey, 80 years old, won. It's good news,
- 13:32Speaker 1: just overall. I mean, he's not, you know, he's a Democrat,
- 13:34Speaker 1: but the good news is he defeated one of these
- 13:37Speaker 1: crazy Democrats. So he's an old-fashioned, sort of a Bill
- 13:41Speaker 1: Clinton-type Democrat, defeating the young crazy. So that's a good thing. Hey,
- 13:46Speaker 1: we'll take some calls next. 800-321-0710 is the number. I
- 13:51Speaker 1: always like to have some new callers. If you never
- 13:54Speaker 1: called before, call us.
- 13:55Speaker 2: 800-321-0710.
