Transcript
- 0:07You're listening to the Hidden Lightness on America Out Loud Talk Radio.
- 0:10I'm your host, Jimmy Hinton.
- 0:12You remember the delivery driver in uh Tennessee, the elderly man who uh had a fundraiser.
- 0:21There, there was a woman who named Brittany Smith who saw him coming up the steps and he was caught on her ring camera.
- 0:29He delivered Starbucks to the home via DoorDash.
- 0:32And she uh felt really bad for him.
- 0:36He was he was working into his 80s and couldn't afford retirement.
- 0:41Well, she started a GoFundMe, and that GoFundMe is about to reach one million dollars.
- 0:48I'd say that's a pretty healthy retirement for him and his wife.
- 0:52So it's really cool, and it was a heartwarming story, and it should be.
- 0:57But there's another one in the news.
- 0:59It's another driver, another delivery driver.
- 1:03Uh, he's a Domino's driver, and it's another state.
- 1:07This is in the state of Idaho.
- 1:11The gentleman was 70 years old, and he shows up at a door, and Domino's had called the customer and said, our delivery driver had just left.
- 1:23And unfortunately, we were out of soda.
- 1:27That was part of the order.
- 1:29They had ordered a couple two-liter bottles.
- 1:32Well, the store was out.
- 1:34They had already the customer had already paid, and now the driver was gone, and so they were just alerting the customer, saying you're probably not going to get your soda.
- 1:46Well, it turns out that the delivery driver stopped and paid for soda with his own money on the way to deliver to the customer.
- 1:59The customer, Brian Wilson, was actually really touched by this.
- 2:05You see, he had ordered a diet coke to go with his family's meal.
- 2:09Then he got the voicemail from Domino's and said that they didn't have any diet cokes left.
- 2:19So the driver shows up.
- 2:22And Wilson was absolutely shocked to see two liters of Diet Coke with the pizza.
- 2:28And he was like, Well, I thought I thought that they were out of soda.
- 2:32Must have been some kind of mix-up.
- 2:35So in the viral video, because of course, Mr.
- 2:40Wilson uploaded the video to TikTok.
- 2:43But you can hear Dan, the delivery driver say that he stopped at the store on his own to pick up the soda.
- 2:52Paid for it with his own money.
- 2:55And he was going to have none of it.
- 2:57Can't show up to a customer without soda, especially if the customer paid for it.
- 3:02Well, who's going to pay for it?
- 3:05The delivery driver.
- 3:06So with his own money, he bought soda.
- 3:09Now, it's not that huge of a deal.
- 3:13If we're talking about monetary value, you're talking what, a couple bucks.
- 3:19Little bit of time that it took for him to stop at the store.
- 3:23But it's the fact that he did a really kind gesture.
- 3:27And that's what blew away Mr.
- 3:31Wilson.
- 3:33So Brian Wilson was blown away in his own words.
- 3:37He was blown away.
- 3:40Um it shocked him.
- 3:43Here's a quote.
- 3:44He said, We're honestly blown away.
- 3:46That level of care and kindness is rare these days.
- 3:50That's what he wrote on You Guessed It, a GoFundMe page.
- 3:54Now, I'm gonna take a little bit of issue with that.
- 3:57Not the fact that he started to go fund me.
- 3:59I think that's really cool.
- 4:01I think it's noble.
- 4:02I'm all for it.
- 4:04When you have somebody in their 70s who's still working hard, and by the way, this was his second job.
- 4:12You have somebody working in their 70s and they're clearly working hard, they have a good work ethic.
- 4:19Uh he went out of his way to make sure that the customer had the soda that the store ran out of.
- 4:25I'm all for rewarding that behavior.
- 4:28100%.
- 4:30I'm a hundred percent behind that.
- 4:33I love that there's a go fund me.
- 4:35It's already raised tens of thousands of dollars.
- 4:38I think that's incredible.
- 4:40I think it's great.
- 4:41I'm not one of these fuddy duds.
- 4:42It's like, well, well, what they get rewarded for doing their job.
- 4:48What about other people?
- 4:49What about other people that do kind things and they don't get go fund me's?
- 4:53You know, there's always going to be that naysayer that they uh they take issue with this.
- 4:59So we ignore those voices.
- 5:01I think it's a great thing.
- 5:03I I'm all for it.
- 5:05I love that stories like this touch the hearts of Americans, and that Americans step up to the plate.
- 5:11That's the bigger story.
- 5:13But this idea that this level of care and kindness is a rare thing.
- 5:20I disagree with that.
- 5:22Now I'm not here to criticize Brian Wilson.
- 5:26Don't mishear me.
- 5:29I'm not here to split hairs, I'm not here to pick on the homeowner for doing something kind.
- 5:35I I think it's fantastic.
- 5:37I think he did the right thing.
- 5:38The fact that he started a GoFundMe, really cool.
- 5:42Great idea.
- 5:45But this idea that it's a rare thing.
- 5:51That level of care and kindness is rare these days.
- 5:55I disagree with that.
- 5:58I'm not disagreeing to rain on anybody's party.
- 6:01I'm disagreeing because I see so many stories, time and time and time again, day in and day out of people going above and beyond.
- 6:14Now, I just shared a story the other day with somebody.
- 6:17We were talking about passports, and I forget how this came up.
- 6:21But somehow this idea of passports and when you renew and don't renew and all that kind of stuff, that came up.
- 6:31And it reminded me of a story back in 2019.
- 6:36I had to update my passport.
- 6:39I had just been in Haiti and had zero problem.
- 6:45But when I returned, a couple months later, I was I was going to Ecuador.
- 6:52And Ecuador had just recently changed their policy that if your passport was going to expire within six months of your trip, you had to have it renewed.
- 7:06They wouldn't let you, they wouldn't allow you to come into the country.
- 7:10All right, fine, no problem.
- 7:13I've renewed my passport plenty of times before.
- 7:17So you mail it in, you have to mail your old passport in.
- 7:22And to make a long story short, it ended up taking a couple of months.
- 7:30And I did this with plenty of time before the trip.
- 7:34Plenty of time.
- 7:36Typically, it takes, I don't know, a couple weeks, three weeks at the most.
- 7:42But for some reason, the government was working extra slow.
- 7:46I know this is a shocker.
- 7:48This comes as a shocker to most of you.
- 7:50I know that the government's known for being uh expedient, right?
- 7:58They're very quick at what they do, they're very efficient at what they do.
- 8:03Of course, I'm being sarcastic.
- 8:05You never know what you're gonna get with the government.
- 8:08So this was a time where my old passport got lost or tied up or something, and I was trying to track it, and they were like, Well, your passport's in Connecticut.
- 8:21And this is I'm I'm talking days before the trip, like a couple days before the trip.
- 8:26And I was like, all right, I'll drive to Connecticut.
- 8:32I used to do that a lot when I drove truck, I would flip the trip, and you know, that's up and back.
- 8:39You're talking maybe, I don't know.
- 8:42Depending on where it's at in Connecticut, you're talking maybe 15, 16 hours.
- 8:47Not a big deal.
- 8:49I will do that.
- 8:50I will personally drive there to get the passport.
- 8:52Well, we can't do that.
- 8:56We can't just give you the new passport.
- 9:00It's like, all right, then give me my old one back.
- 9:04And the nearest place was Philadelphia if you wanted to do an expedited passport, but you had to have your old passport in hand.
- 9:13So I was like, uh, no matter which way I turn, it's a problem.
- 9:18All right, so they kept messing me around and they were like, it's it's coming.
- 9:21It's showing that that your new passport is done.
- 9:23I'm like, then why is it not sent?
- 9:27If it's done, just put the dumb thing in the mail.
- 9:30Well, then they had a tracking number for it.
- 9:31They're like, well, we do have a uh a mailing tracking number.
- 9:35So I looked it up.
- 9:36That tracking number dated back like a week.
- 9:41And it showed that there had been a tracking order that had been generated, but it it never actually left the facility.
- 9:49So I'm like, you gotta be kidding a week.
- 9:53For seven days, this thing's been sitting here, and you guys didn't think to drop it in the mail.
- 10:00So anyway, this kind of went back and forth, back and forth.
- 10:03Finally, the day before I was to leave on this trip, it showed that it made it like 30 miles north to the next USPS facility.
- 10:17And I was like, I'm scrambling, and I'm like, come on, come on, come on, come on.
- 10:21So I go to my post office, and I'm like, look, I need this passport.
- 10:26I'm literally leaving in the morning for Ecuador with my family.
- 10:29And I was leading a group from church.
- 10:32I had to have it.
- 10:35And they were like, well, we can contact your route driver and see if she can kind of maybe just deliver it early.
- 10:46And I'm like, well, that's assuming that it comes down from the hub that it's at.
- 10:51So long story short, they won't give me her number, which is fine.
- 10:56I'm perfect.
- 10:57Like, I don't, I'm not saying that people should demand that we get the personal cell phone number of our mail carriers.
- 11:04So I get it.
- 11:05I'm cool with that.
- 11:07But I'm at the mercy of now my mail carrier.
- 11:11Lo and behold, the next morning, it's like eight o'clock in the morning.
- 11:16She shows up at my house in the mail truck and she hands me my new passport.
- 11:22I'm like, how did you pull this off?
- 11:25She's like, well, I had to drive up to where it was to guarantee that we had it.
- 11:30I had to drive 30 miles, 60 miles round trip.
- 11:35She drove up there personally, got my passport, hand delivered it to me.
- 11:43And as soon as that passport was in my hand, we took off for the airport.
- 11:48And I made the trip.
- 11:51And I tell this story to tell you that I see these kinds of things every single day in my own life when I talk to other people over and over and over again.
- 12:04And it's not well-to-do people.
- 12:07It's not people that are just they have extra time and they have extra money and they they just do the stuff because they can.
- 12:16It's ordinary people like you and I.
- 12:18It's hardworking Americans, it's people in their 70s who are who are still delivering pizzas to try to make ends meet.
- 12:26Those are the ordinary people who are doing extraordinary things every single day.
- 12:31So I don't think this is that rare of a thing.
- 12:35I really don't.
- 12:38I think that we live in a nation where people are just incredibly generous.
- 12:44They're generous with their time, they're generous with their money.
- 12:47They go above and beyond constantly.
- 12:49And that's why I have such little patience whenever people trash Americans.
- 12:57When they target young people and talk about how lazy they are.
- 13:01When they target poor people, say they'll never amount to anything.
- 13:07When they target wealthy people and say that they're rich and greedy.
- 13:35Now that's not to say that there aren't ignorant people out there.
- 13:38There are.
- 13:50Oh, they exist.
- 13:52They're out there.
- 13:55But the majority of the American people go above and beyond.
- 13:59I've seen this over and over and over again.
- 14:05And the reason I'm saying this is because it's so easy to fall into this temptation to feel like most people are lazy.
- 14:16To feel like most people don't care.
- 14:20To feel like most people wouldn't lift a finger to help anybody else, and they would rather watch their neighbor rot and writhe in pain than to actually step in and do something to help them.
- 14:32That is not, there's a difference between feelings and reality.
- 14:40And I would argue that reality shows us time and time again that most Americans, and I'm not saying it's like 99%, but I would say at least 60 to 75% of people.
- 14:58They will go above and beyond.
- 15:00If they understand, if they know that there's a need, if they know that somebody else is suffering, I'd say that the majority of Americans would do something, that they do do something to help people in need.
- 15:15And I love that about America.
- 15:17I love that we're a great nation.
- 15:20I love that we're a nation that's wealthy, that our economy is doing well.
- 15:27Even though it doesn't feel that way sometimes, we have to look at the reality.
- 15:33And people consistently and constantly go above and beyond.
- 15:41So that's number one, really cool.
- 15:44Number two, it's really cool that the American people, when they see people do kind things, it moves them.
- 15:52It moves their heart.
- 15:53It motivates them.
- 15:56And I absolutely love that.
- 15:57Remember last year, I highlighted Ryan Trahan's journey across America.
- 16:04And how his goal was to raise one million dollars for St.
- 16:08Jude's research hospital.
- 16:11And he ended up, I think there was 11 million or uh somewhere close to 12 million that Ryan Trahan ended up raising.
- 16:20The American people went above and beyond.
- 16:22I mean, people went nuts to help.
- 16:26They were like busting down the door, like, hey, how can we do more?
- 16:33It was businesses, it was individuals.
- 16:35That was at a time when people were saying how bad the economy was and inflation was the worst that it had ever been.
- 16:42And he raised a record amount of money.
- 16:48This is who we are as Americans.
- 16:50And this is good news.
- 16:53Well, we'll talk more about this story after the break.

- 19:18Dan the delivery guy.
- 19:21He is uh been dubbed that way anyway.
- 19:24He's a delivery man with dominoes who is just uh a few weeks away from retiring, but he's in his 70s, and uh he's been working the his job with Domino's as a second job for 14 years as a side hustle to raise a little bit more money to cover bills and uh I don't know the state of his financial condition, but I imagine uh he probably needed this job to try to stay for retirement and God bless him because he is retiring at the age of 70.
- 20:00That's pretty cool.
- 20:01But Dan, the delivery driver has gone viral.
- 20:04There's a GoFundMe that has raised tens of thousands of dollars for them already.
- 20:09It's only been up for a short time.
- 20:12And that was because he went above and beyond as he delivered pizzas to a homeowner.
- 20:18Domino's was out of diet coke.
- 20:22That was what he ordered.
- 20:24I guess the house owner, Brian Wilson, had ordered a couple diet sodas.
- 20:32Well, Domino's ran out.
- 20:35And by the time the delivery man, Dan the delivery man walked out the door, they thought that he just forgot that they were out.
- 20:43Well, Brian Wilson had already paid for his order online.
- 20:49So when Dan, the delivery driver showed up at his house, the homeowner, Brian Wilson, was surprised to see that he had a couple of bottles of Coke in his hand.
- 21:00When asked about it, he said, Oh, I stopped at the store and uh I picked them up.
- 21:07And so Brian was really shocked about that.
- 21:11He he was in his words, he was blown away.
- 21:16And he said, Man, you didn't have to do that.
- 21:18And then he felt really bad because he tipped him, but he was out of cash.
- 21:25And he said, I wish I wish I could tip you more.
- 21:27This is all caught on video, by the way.
- 21:29He said, I wish I could tip you more.
- 21:31And Dan said, Oh, don't worry about it.
- 21:33He's like, you already tipped me enough, and I'm I'm happy to do it.
- 21:38So it just was this really cool encounter.
- 21:40And uh, so Brian, the homeowner, he started a fundraiser.
- 21:45I'm gonna read this on GoFundMe just to hear what he said.
- 21:49But he posted the video to TikTok.
- 21:52It instantly went viral.
- 21:54I think it's had well over a million views and counting, and uh people just loved it, and I think it's really cool.
- 22:04I think it's incredible.
- 22:06Uh here's what he wrote on GoFundMe.
- 22:09He said, Last night, something simple turned into something really special, and we can't stop thinking about it.
- 22:15On a busy Friday night, we ordered dinner from Domino's along with a Diet Coke.
- 22:22While we were waiting, we got a voicemail from our delivery driver, Dan, letting us know that they were out of Diet Coke, but he'd gladly bring something else if we let him know what we wanted.
- 22:34We tried calling the store back, but he had already left for delivery.
- 22:37No big deal.
- 22:39We figured we'd just take whatever substitution came with the order.
- 22:43But when Dan arrived, he surprised us.
- 22:46He apologized again for the inconvenience, and then told us he had stopped at the store himself to pick up Diet Coke for us on a busy Friday night during deliveries, completely out of his own time and effort.
- 23:02We were honestly blown away.
- 23:04That level of care and kindness is rare these days.
- 23:08We wanted to tip him more, but didn't have cash on hand.
- 23:12We told him we'd call the store to leave a glowing review and come back with a cash tip.
- 23:18That's when Dan shared something that made this moment even more meaningful.
- 23:22He's been working at Domino's as a second job for 14 years.
- 23:28And he's retiring in just a few weeks.
- 23:31So here's what we're hoping to do.
- 23:34TikTok loved Dan's story and suggested we come together to give him the send-off he deserves.
- 23:42If a small act of kindness can make such an impact on us, imagine what a community of people can do for him.
- 23:49Let's show Dan that his kindness didn't go unnoticed.
- 23:53Let's help him step into retirement feeling appreciated, supported, and celebrated.
- 24:00Every little bit helps.
- 24:02And even if you can't donate, sharing this story means just as much.
- 24:08That's really cool.
- 24:10But I I said before the break, the one thing that I actually disagree with that acts like this are not common.
- 24:19I think they're incredibly common.
- 24:21I think that most Americans go above and beyond, regardless of age and social, economic status, race.
- 24:34It doesn't matter.
- 24:36People in America are generous.
- 24:40And that, my friends, is the hidden lightness.
- 24:45It's that we all have the hidden lightness inside of us.
- 24:49All of us do.
- 24:51There's absolutely zero excuse why we all can't use our hidden lightness to bless other people.
- 25:00As many, many, many people do.
- 25:03And I think that's really cool.
- 25:04I think that's really special.
- 25:06I think that's what makes America so great, is that it's full of so many great people.
- 25:12And that's one of the things that Rush Limbaugh used to talk about, and he got a lot of criticism for that.
- 25:18He talks about the exceptionalism of America.
- 25:23And people would argue, and oh, America sucks.
- 25:27America's terrible.
- 25:29Look at all the crime.
- 25:30Look at this.
- 25:30Look at that.
- 25:31It's like they're pointing at all these bad things that do happen.
- 25:37But generally, overall, America is great.
- 25:43We truly, truly are blessed in this nation.
- 25:48And the fact that we have millions upon millions upon millions of giving people, ordinary people.
- 25:57It really, it's special to me because I got to tell you, I fell into that trap for a short time of believing that most people were lazy.
- 26:09Most people didn't really want to volunteer at church.
- 26:12I was really struggling, or our volunteer numbers were low for actually quite a few years.
- 26:20We had super low turnout for a lot of things.
- 26:23And so I blamed the people, not to their face, but in my mind, I was like, man, what is it about society that makes people just unwilling to volunteer?
- 26:36And I I presumed that they just didn't care.
- 26:42They just don't care.
- 26:43They don't care that my wife and I, my family, we're all grinding just day after day after day, and they see us, they see us struggling, they see us struggling to keep up, and they just don't care.
- 26:54See, that was what I had in my mind.
- 26:56That was the idea that I had been fed this lie that people don't want to volunteer their time.
- 27:02That people don't care.
- 27:05I looked at the contributions and they were uh sad to say the least.
- 27:16And then those ideas started going through my mind.
- 27:19I was like, well, people just they're not giving.
- 27:21My my wife and I are very like we pride ourselves in being very generous.
- 27:28We we more than tithe.
- 27:32We have more than 10% that we automatically skim off of our budget as soon as our paychecks land into the into the bank.
- 27:43We have a document that automatically calculates more, it's more than 10%.
- 27:50And we give it all away, 100% of that gets given away.
- 27:54We love to give.
- 27:55We're I'm so blessed to have a wife who has a very giving heart.
- 28:01She loves to give.
- 28:02Her family, her parents, very, very giving people.
- 28:07My family, all of them, very giving, exceptional givers.
- 28:12Literally 100% of all the people in my family, and I've got a really big family.
- 28:19They're all givers.
- 28:20Doesn't matter.
- 28:21We have people who are very wealthy, and we have people who are doing okay.
- 28:26Um, but but I wouldn't consider them wealthy.
- 28:29We have everything in between in our family, all 100% of them are giving.
- 28:37That's just been my experience.
- 28:40In my own personal circle in my own life.
- 28:42And so I was buying this idea that people just aren't, they're not generous.
- 28:47People don't want to give, they don't care at church.
- 28:49I don't know what it is.
- 28:50Why, why are people so stingy?
- 28:52They don't want to give their time, they don't want to give their, they don't want to give their money that I know they have.
- 28:58I see some of the cars that they drive.
- 29:02Excuse me.
- 29:05And then it hit me.
- 29:08And really it was it was recently, it was actually on this show that I had a really big aha moment.
- 29:17And I started learning about micro giving.
- 29:21In fact, I did I did a uh a show on that.
- 29:26That there's a trend in the United States of America, and people are absolutely flocking to microgiving.
- 29:37Instead of volunteering for six months at a time, they'll volunteer for a project.
- 29:46Put me on a project, and I'll see the project to completion, and then don't ask me to volunteer again.
- 29:54I'll volunteer when when I have time or when I can.
- 29:59That's
- 30:00Called micro giving with the way that people give.
- 30:06See, we're we're very, very dedicated with uh and consistency.
- 30:15When we give literally every single week.
- 30:19And I'm old school.
- 30:20I write a check.
- 30:23We write a check.
- 30:24That goes in the contribution plate.
- 30:26Uh we we have monthly donations that we do for different organizations and ministries.
- 30:33We write a check, put it an expensive stamp on an envelope, and we put it in the mail.
- 30:39We're old school.
- 30:41And I'm just so hardwired for that consistency.
- 30:47And so I view or used to used to view that inconsistency as well, people are just blowing their money on other things, and they just they just don't care.
- 30:57They're not givers, they're not giving it to God, right?
- 30:59That's the assumption.
- 31:02But then I learned about micro giving, and that is our culture.
- 31:07This defines America in 2026.
- 31:12People are microgivers.
- 31:15And so they might give $50 to church one week.
- 31:21And the next week, they're filling somebody's gas tank at the gas pumps.
- 31:29And the next week, they're dropping a $50 tip to a waitress who looks like she or he is struggling.
- 31:39Waiter, waitress.
- 31:43Yeah, that this is micro giving.
- 31:47And so instead of that consistency that we've been so accustomed to, it's still consistent, but it's consistently done in these little micro bursts.
- 31:58And that's why GoFundMe and other crowdsource uh platforms are wildly popular.
- 32:06Listen to listen to these numbers.
- 32:08This is gonna blow your mind.
- 32:10I started looking at these numbers, and I'm absolutely floored.
- 32:13You ready for this?
- 32:15GoFundMe.
- 32:17That's just one platform.
- 32:19There are a lot of other crowdsourcing uh platforms.
- 32:24GoFundMe is obviously one of the most popular.
- 32:26GoFundMe hosts over 100,000 new campaigns every single month, averaging over 3,000 new campaigns daily.
- 32:39The platform has facilitated over 40 billion dollars in total donations over 15 years, averaging 50 million dollars raised every single week.
- 32:53It handles roughly two donations per second with an average donation amount of 77.
- 33:05This not incredible.
- 33:10Is that you can not look at America and say, yeah, these these acts are they're few and far between.
- 33:24It's really it's really rare.
- 33:27Folks, this is one platform, one singular platform, 100,000 new campaigns, new ones.
- 33:37That's not the ones that carry over.
- 33:40Brand new campaigns, 100,000 every single month, 3,000 new campaigns every single day, seven days a week, 52 weeks out of a year, every single day.
- 34:0340 billion total dollars in donations over 15 years, 50 million dollars raised every single week.
- 34:12Two donations per second, every second.
- 34:17There are two new donations, averaging 77 for across all donations, every single time you get two of those dings per second.
- 34:27That's 77 coming into the platform.
- 34:30That don't tell me that people aren't generous.
- 34:33Don't tell me that this is a rarity.
- 34:37And this, folks, is what drives America.
- 34:44This is the engine that drives compassion and kindness and prosperity and wealth sharing.
- 34:56You remember President Obama?
- 34:59Yeah, well, yeah, I have to uh redistribute the wealth.
- 35:04Translation, I'm a socialist, and we're gonna twist your arm and we're gonna rob from the rich and give to the poor.
- 35:17How does that work out for any nation?
- 35:20I mean, look at look at Cuba, look at Venezuela.
- 35:26How does that work for countries like that?
- 35:30It will collapse a nation every single time, 100% of the time, guaranteed.
- 35:37But you know what really works giving people freedom to be themselves, to give, to give when they want, how they want, as much as they want, you give them total freedom.
- 35:52And that's what these platforms are.
- 35:54There's not one single person pressuring people to give.
- 35:58Nobody's guilting people into giving, nobody's telling them that they're forced to give.
- 36:03Nobody's telling them we're gonna tax you.
- 36:05We're gonna we're gonna garnish your wages until a certain percentage is pumped into the plate called GoFundMe.
- 36:13Nobody is forcing people to do this.
- 36:14This is all 100% free will.
- 36:17You give people freedom, and people will give.
- 36:30Actually, very incredible.
- 36:33Uh, I want to look at the number of people who give on the platform.
- 36:40You ready for this?
- 36:4240 to million donations made in one year.
- 36:4742 million.
- 36:49And most of those are individual people.
- 36:52So roughly, and some people are repeat givers, but generally you could say there were probably at least 30 million unique donors, people who donated in one year.
- 37:04That's incredible.
- 37:05We are hard up on another break here.

- 38:49Dan the delivery man, the Domino's driver who had a GoFundMe started for him.
- 38:56He's 70 years old.
- 38:57He'll be retiring in just a few weeks.
- 39:00And Mr.
- 39:01Wilson, Brian Wilson, the homeowner, was really touched by the encounter that took place.
- 39:07When Dan, the delivery driver went above and beyond, he bought a diet coke when he found out the store was out.
- 39:15Uh he asked Brian if he wanted to substitute something, but uh some for some reason the communication uh didn't really get through or whatever.
- 39:26And uh they were just expecting to get a substitute, some kind of a drink as a substitute.
- 39:32However, when Dan showed up, he had a diet coke.
- 39:36He had stopped at a store on the way, bought it with his own money, and he did so with a smile.
- 39:41That really touched Brian.
- 39:43He was moved by that.
- 39:45He said he was completely blown away.
- 39:47He started a GoFundMe for Dan, and uh he at first he shared the video on TikTok, and he said it wasn't even his idea.
- 39:56It was that the TikTokers, the the followers on TikTok, they
- 40:00They wanted him to start a GoFundMe.
- 40:02I didn't even highlight that.
- 40:04You know, that just kind of jumped out at me.
- 40:08And uh I forgot to highlight that.
- 40:11It's not just the generosity of the American people.
- 40:16It's not just the generosity of Brian Wilson who started the GoFundMe, but it's that people wanted him to start it.
- 40:24Like they were begging him, please start a GoFundMe.
- 40:27We want to contribute.
- 40:29And that's why I say it's not a rare thing for people to give.
- 40:33For people to go above and beyond and people to give, this is who we are.
- 40:37It's the very DNA, the fabric of America and the American makeup.
- 40:43It's who we are.
- 40:46And again, that's part of why I get really frustrated when people talk down to people, groups of people.
- 40:51That's why Hillary Clinton got so much backlash when she was like, ah, the deplorables.
- 40:59Yeah, all these people who voted for Trump.
- 41:01This was during the first term.
- 41:03Yeah, they're deplorables.
- 41:06Half of America are deplorables.
- 41:12And now the narrative is coming from the Democrats.
- 41:19That anybody who voted for Trump.
- 41:23They're going to be cut off.
- 41:24They're Nazis.
- 41:25They're they're they're terrible humans.
- 41:27They're white supremacists, they're racist, they're homophobic.
- 41:29They're you know, on and on and on they go.
- 41:34John Fetterman.
- 41:37It's not that he's defending people.
- 41:39He's just saying, no, look, that's not true.
- 41:41I know a lot of people who voted for Donald Trump.
- 41:47They don't agree with everything he does.
- 41:48A lot of these people don't even like them.
- 41:51But he's like, these are good people.
- 41:55They're good people, and and we have the freedom, or at least we should have the freedom in this nation to vote for whoever we want to vote for.
- 42:06And it's nobody's business who we vote for.
- 42:11Right?
- 42:11People want to press other people.
- 42:13And who did you vote for?
- 42:15None of your business.
- 42:17How about that?
- 42:19That's the answer.
- 42:20None of your business.
- 42:24Why did you vote for orange man?
- 42:27Here's a good answer.
- 42:29None of your business.
- 42:32It's nobody's business.
- 42:35When you have free elections, it's nobody's business who you vote for or why you voted for that person.
- 42:44So anyway, uh, I love that we live in a free nation.
- 42:48And when the people are free, people freely give.
- 42:54So I want to erase this narrative.
- 42:57I I really want to get this out of people's minds.
- 43:00That most Americans are bad.
- 43:02America is corrupt.
- 43:03America's unsafe.
- 43:05America's terrible.
- 43:06America's the worst.
- 43:07Americans are lazy.
- 43:08Americans are on and on and on and on.
- 43:11It goes.
- 43:11These narratives are out there.
- 43:13And the reality is I'm such a numbers guy.
- 43:18The numbers don't lie.
- 43:19So right before the break, I was sharing some of these numbers.
- 43:24All right, just on GoFundMe.
- 43:26That's only one crowdsourcing platform.
- 43:31GoFundMe host 100,000 new campaigns every single month.
- 43:38It averages 3,000 new campaigns every single day.
- 43:43It's facilitated over 40 billion dollars in total donations over 15 years.
- 43:50It averages 50 million dollars raised every single week, right here in America.
- 43:5650 million every single week.
- 44:09In one year, over 42 million individual donations were made.
- 44:19I mean, this is incredible.
- 44:23Absolutely incredible.
- 44:26So here's a recent article.
- 44:30This was uh this was updated in just in December.
- 44:35This is on uh CBS News.
- 44:38GoFundMe fundraisers to pay for basic living expenses surged in 2025.
- 44:44Now, I'm gonna start by saying this is a tale of two stories.
- 44:48One is that people are incredibly generous.
- 44:50You're gonna see that as these facts unfold.
- 44:54Number two, it can be argued one of one of a couple ways.
- 45:00Either one, that things are so unaffordable now that inflation has gotten so bad that people are now flocking to go fund me just to pay basic bills.
- 45:11All right, you could say that, or the other side of that coin, which is probably what I would lean towards, is that people have a heightened aware awareness of the struggles that other people are going through that people have compassion, people have more compassion in 2025 and 2026 than they have in the years prior.
- 45:36That compassion, compassion is increasing.
- 45:41That would be the argument that I make.
- 45:44Not that times aren't tough, they certainly are for a lot of people.
- 45:50But these people aren't starting to go fund me for themselves.
- 45:55It's other people, right?
- 45:57We read about it all the time.
- 45:59I've done how many shows now.
- 46:01It's not individuals starting it for themselves, it's other people seeing them live in poverty, or they're they're just kind of struggling to make it through life, and they're like, I want to help that person.
- 46:14Something inside of me.
- 46:15You heard it from Brian, right?
- 46:17Brian Wilson.
- 46:20I couldn't stop thinking about this guy who showed up on my porch with the Diet Coke.
- 46:25I couldn't quit thinking about it.
- 46:29That tells me that this is on the hearts and the minds of the American people.
- 46:39They see somebody struggling, they see somebody trying to make ends meet.
- 46:43It resonates with them.
- 46:46And they're like, I gotta do something about that.
- 46:48I gotta help.
- 46:51I think that's special.
- 46:54All right, so I'm gonna read a little bit of this article because it's just really fascinating to me.
- 46:59GoFundMe said that the words work, home, food, bill, and care were among the top keywords in fundraiser's campaigns this year.
- 47:11Monthly bills were the second fastest growing category behind appeals for support for nonprofit groups.
- 47:21Public focus on affordability has flared with a recent CBS news poll showing that inflation and the economy rank as America's top national concerns in the U.S.
- 47:36fundraisers to raise money for necessities like rent, groceries, housing, and fuel surged 17% in 2025, according to GoFundMe.
- 47:50Company CEO, Tim Cadogan said the platform has seen a steady increase in such campaigns in recent years.
- 48:00For example, we saw people say they were behind on the month's rent and were looking for friends and family to help them get through the next month or two.
- 48:09Cadigan told CBS News.
- 48:12This shows us that life is getting more expensive, and folks are struggling with that, so they're reaching out to friends and family to see if they can help them through.
- 48:22All right, so people are being honest about that.
- 48:26I like that about people.
- 48:30They're struggling, they tell somebody, they confide in somebody that they know and love and trust.
- 48:35Hey, I'm struggling to make ends meet.
- 48:39I wish there was a way that I could that I could get help.
- 48:44That friend in turn, again, either one of two things.
- 48:51They either talk to their friends and their friends start to go fund me, or that friend talks to other friends, and they're like, hey, I have this friend who's really struggling, and that person starts to go fund me.
- 49:05Now, there are some who start start themselves.
- 49:10Um, but typically it's other people who start it for for people.
- 49:17But you look at the numbers, and the numbers are absolutely they they're mind-blowing.
- 49:2342 million donations made in one year.
- 49:31Every second, two people are donating.
- 49:37100,000 new campaigns every single month.
- 49:42Those numbers are staggering.
- 49:43That points to a picture for me.
- 49:48Yeah, maybe I'm interpreting this completely wrong.
- 49:51That that's a possibility.
- 49:53But when I look at this, I can't help but to think that people are incredibly generous and the people want.
- 50:00To help their struggling neighbor.
- 50:02And if this is not a biblical example of exactly what Jesus talked about, you know, he talks about this in so many different ways.
- 50:12He gives the parable of the good Samaritan.
- 50:16You know, this guy falls into the hands of robbers.
- 50:19He's beaten.
- 50:20He's left for dead.
- 50:21He's robbed.
- 50:24He's laying on the side of the road, and the priest and the Levite, the religious leaders, they walk around the dude.
- 50:33In fact, they go to the opposite side of the road.
- 50:37But then you have this Samaritan who the Jews hate.
- 50:42They don't get along with.
- 50:47He stops.
- 50:48He dresses the wounds.
- 50:51He throws them on his own animal, brings them to an in, pays for them for several nights.
- 51:00And then he says, I'm going to be passing back through.
- 51:02If the guy is still here, if he needs more nights, please put them up, and I'll pay the difference.
- 51:10Whatever extra is owed, I'll pay it.
- 51:13And Jesus says, which of these three was the neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers.
- 51:21Well, of course, it's a rhetorical question.
- 51:24The answer is the Samaritan.
- 51:28And Jesus says, go and do likewise.
- 51:31All right.
- 51:32So I look at America and I'm like, man, we're a nation full of good Samaritans.
- 51:39And people want to argue all the time.
- 51:41They're like, oh, America, it's not a Christian nation.
- 51:44Don't say that.
- 51:45People get offended.
- 51:46It's like they cover their ears, and for some reason that really offends people and makes them makes them want to shut down.
- 51:55They're like, no, don't say that.
- 51:57America's not a Christian nation.
- 52:01Well, we sure act like Christians.
- 52:07I mean, millions and millions and millions of people living exactly like a Christian, the way that Jesus told us to live.
- 52:20The brother of Jesus, James.
- 52:24Pure and undefiled religion is this.
- 52:27To care for the orphans and the widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
- 52:34You want pure and undefiled religion.
- 52:38Start caring for the people who are poor.
- 52:40Start these GoFundMes.
- 52:42You find somebody struggling.
- 52:44You don't have to do it yourself.
- 52:46And I think that's where a lot of us go wrong because we're like, oh, I just, there's no way I can help.
- 52:51I'm strapped.
- 52:52I'm I'm stretched thin.
- 52:54I just I only have five bucks that I could spare.
- 52:58If that you're missing the point.
- 53:02If that's your attitude, you're completely missing the point.
- 53:07The point is, give what you can, network with other people, and pass that spirit of giving on to other people.
- 53:15When you do that, God will take care of the rest.
- 53:20And we see it time and time again, replicated millions of times, literally millions of times.
- 53:28Over and over and over.
- 53:30Again, the GoFundMes.
- 53:33Can you imagine if I did a story on just GoFundMe campaigns?
- 53:39If I started doing it doing a deep search and I'm like, yeah, just give me, give me all the donations for the month of the month of April.
- 53:50I'd have 100,000 to pick from just in the month of April.
- 53:56100,000 GoFundMe campaigns that I could pick from in a month.
- 54:03There's no way I could possibly ever cover all those stories.
- 54:07And that's part of why I do so many of these, where they have stories about GoFundMe's because they're so common.
- 54:14Because people are this giving.
- 54:26As both an American and a Christian, a Christian first, by the way.
- 54:33As a Christian, I can't help but to try to inspire other people to be giving.
- 54:39Whatever that looks like for you, there is no right way to give.
- 54:49Only we need to be givers.
- 54:54All right, we've got to be giving people, and the majority of people are.
- 54:58Micro giving.
- 55:00Again, it's not a model that I particularly love for myself.
- 55:08But the fact that other people are micro-giving, I love that.
- 55:12I think it's fantastic.
- 55:13I think it's great.
- 55:14I think it's wonderful.
- 55:18So there are so many different ways to give, and in so many different capacities.
- 55:22And speaking of giving, I want to close by saying this.
- 55:25I'm going to give this a reminder, probably over and over and over.
- 55:29I am for the month of April.
- 55:34I'm taking every single penny from royalties from my book, tithing your time, treasure, and talent.
- 55:42I'm taking every single penny, and I'm going to give all of that away, 100% of that.
- 55:48Whoever people tell me to donate that to, I'm going to donate 100% of that.
- 55:53So I encourage you to order the book.
- 55:57I think you'll find it really helpful.
- 55:59Uh it's super easy to read.
- 56:01It's a super quick read.
- 56:03And uh it'll help you get your budgeting in order and uh learn a little bit more about investing.
- 56:09It's kind of the basics of understanding the principles of investing.
- 56:13But I I love love, love to give, and that's my way of giving back, and I'm happy to do it.
- 56:21Absolutely thrilled to be able to have that opportunity to give.
- 56:26You can find more out about my show and get all the latest podcasts if you go to the menu navigation bar at America Outloud.news under our shows or schedule.
- 56:33You'll be in the know.
- 56:34There is a hidden lightness that shines inside of all of us.
- 56:36When there's so much darkness that envelops the world, remember that it doesn't take much light to expose that darkness and to ultimately inspire other people.
- 56:44Join me in being a light.
