[upbeat rock music] Hey. Hey, everybody. It's, uh, Full Spectrum Cycling here, show number 189.
• 0:19
  189. Back with us in the studio this week, Triple T. Hi. Well, what happened last week, Tony? Did you have- I slept, I slept 16 hours straight. Did you have the, the vid? I... No, I think I had the flu. Really?
• 0:34
Is that a thing? I got my flu shot, so. I did too, [laughs] which I'm glad... If it was, I'm glad I did because it was- Cocktail flu? Eh, I don't know.
• 0:41
It's one of those things everybody thinks when they're sick they got the flu, and it's rarely- The flu... the flu. Yeah. Oh, JK's over there too with his De Krooiten. Is that a... That's an older De Krooiten shirt there.
• 0:51
Yeah, this is the one I bought twice and- Oh, right, right... last week, I forgot. Yes. When I bought it and then it fell out of my pocket- Yeah... and I had to go buy it again. I remember that. I remember that show.
• 1:00
[laughs] And we saw De Krooiten Dan last week at the HR show. [mic squeaking] It's okay. We're just gonna Heimlich each other. [laughs] All right, Tony's already- No Heimliching the Heiny...
• 1:11
Tony's already screwing up the show by taking- Heiny Licks... his headset off. Welcome back. [laughs] All right, he was here for three minutes, folks. Now he just walked out of the room. Actually, minute and a half.
• 1:19
Whatever. Bye, Tony. Come again when you can stay so long. Thank you. Come again. [laughs] But yeah, uh, Deadfinger opened for HR, which was a rad time- Yeah... had by all. That was good.
• 1:32
Uh, that was only last week, wasn't it? It was, yes. It was a- 'Cause I was-... semi recap... I tried to, um, go through photos from the previous week to put 'em in the show notes, and I'm like,
• 1:41
"It was in last week's show notes," so I thought, did, was, did, was that- We were talking-... just last week? Yeah. We were talking about it, that we're leaving upon our recording this live- Right... last Wednesday.
• 1:57
Hey, we can do that this week again too because, yes, we do record this on Wednesday, and yes, it is November 2nd, and yes, it is International Single Speed Day today. Yeah. Every day is kinda like this- Well,
• 2:11
this is a- For me... somehow this is a brainchild of- [laughs]...
• 2:14
of, of Paul Price over there at Paul Component Engineering, and I don't know who wrote up the press release, but every site that does bike stuff just about had pretty much the same story about it, which somebody fed them I would guess.
• 2:27
Still, those guys over at Paul Component Engineering do make some mighty fine single speed stuff. Saw a couple of new colors. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, uh, uh- Ha. Such a git... uh, uh, uh. My, my bad. My bad.
• 2:38
Oh, now Tony's back again. Yeah, he is. Uh, I have with w- I have water now. Okay. Um, I saw a couple of pretty new colors. What was... You have beer water. What, don't you have beer water? It's gone. Oh, okay.
• 2:46
I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm waiting for you guys at the top of the hill. Yeah, well, y- you take a number. Last week we got to the top of the hill- I know, I see... before we even started the show, [laughs] I think.
• 2:55
Well, yeah, we, uh... Yeah, we hit the top of the hill over at Amorphic on the way in. Oh, right. Copy that. Okay. Yeah, true. So, yeah, and there was a little confusion at the pass on that one. But it's one in four,
• 3:07
the beer. Yeah. Actually, they did have that where I went to the store today. Yeah. Yep. Yeah, on the shelf. You kept calling it one in five. One in four.
• 3:17
On the show you were like, "One in five," and you kept saying- Oh... it's one in four. 5 to 1. It's just- 25 or two to four... beer with a, beer with a purpose is what it is. I get it. I get it. I get it. Yeah.
• 3:26
But it's a Doors tune. 5 to 1, baby. One in five, no one here gets out alive. Okay. It's true. [laughs] It sure is. So [laughs] just... It is good. All right. So when I see that, I hear that- Yes... in my head.
• 3:37
So, yeah- Anyhow, wel- welcome to the inside of, uh, JK's head there. That's not a place most people wanna go probably. No, no, no. There's... But it's, there's some fun music in this. It's nice inside. Right on.
• 3:47
[laughs] So, uh, I was just, uh, thinking about Paul Price and Paul Component Engineering because I think somewhere around...
• 3:57
If, if it wasn't '89, it was '90 or '91, somewhere in there, when I first started buying Paul's stuff, and, uh, he... I have a hub on my, uh, single speed bike now, which it's on one of the two that I...
• 4:11
Anyway, it's from then. It still has... It didn't even have laser etching. I don't think lasers were invented yet back then. [laughs] [laughs] It has, like, a, um, a vinyl, cut vinyl sticker on it that says Paul.
• 4:24
[laughs] And it don't have no fancy disc brake mounts on it neither. Nope. So- What in the living hell is this? So yeah. It's delicious. Oh, you know what? It's, it's on the coaster brake bike. That's what it's on. Ah.
• 4:36
Yeah, that's- Okay. Okay... 'cause you don't need no stinking front brake with no coaster brake there. No, no, no. Yeah, so that's what that is.
• 4:45
And then, uh, of course the l- the love levers, great brake lever from the olden time, which they still make to this day. I have the... I, I know I still have the opener that you gave me. Oh, yeah. And I can't find it.
• 4:58
Oh, right. Oh, well. I know it's around. I know it's... It, it... Well, you've seen my bike desk. It's like a, that, like, old secretary desk with, like, a trillion cubby holes, and every trillion is, like, full
• 5:10
of stickers, patches, badge pins. I forgot. Was yours silver, or was it red, white, and blue? Red, white, and blue. Yeah. Right. And I like- I kept the orange one from w- Yeah...
• 5:18
some Interbike 'cause I love the orange, so I'd, I'd in fact just looked at it today. Although, we don't drink a lot of bottled beer here at the old, uh- It's heavier... Heavy Cycles shop.
• 5:27
It's heavier to c- transfer it over. Yeah, right. But- Right, and b- If you picked it up in your, in, in, in your- More environmentally friendly... four, four-wheeled- To have glass or cans... No, to have aluminum.
• 5:34
Well- If y'all, if, if y'all did this with your four-wheeled machines... Yeah, but you can't throw rocks at cans as well as you can bottles. I love that. I can. I still love that piece of logic. Yeah, that's good logic.
• 5:46
That was the best logic. [laughs] It was like, it was like, "Well, no, man, why'd you bring cans?" "Well, they're lighter." "Why would, why do you want me to bring bottles?"
• 5:55
"'Cause they make a cooler noise when you huck rocks at 'em." Yep, we have good- And I'm like, I was like-... we have a good rock hucking spot too...
• 6:00
I'm like, "Yes, yes, I agree with everything that just happened there." [laughs]All right then. I don't know what of this stuff... There was some stuff last week I kinda wanted to- Did we...
• 6:13
I don't even know if we mentioned this stuff, but the more I look at the new Surly Skidloader electric not quite long tail bike- Right, that's interesting... the more I like that thing. That's pretty interesting.
• 6:24
[sighs] It's... I'm... Okay. I, I, I'm, I'm starting to lean towards the electricity out of the bicycling. Oh? I spent a weekend in Door County, the Doorcle. Doorcle up there, eh?
• 6:36
Doorco, and I spell it with a K, thank you kindly. Okay. Well- I like that idea... if you wanna do it that way, you can. Well, it sounds like Orko from Masters of the Universe. Doorco with a C sounds the same, exactly.
• 6:46
Yeah, but it looks more common. But rather call it D-O-R-K-O. Yeah. It's a hard C noise for our linguistic- Instead of a C noise? Yeah... it's Dorco. Anyway, you rode an electric bike, did you?
• 6:57
Instead of our linguistic friends. Yes. Well, I, uh... Kim brought her aluminium pink Ale that she hasn't ridden in about six years or some shit like that, [smacks lips] 'cause it'd fit in her car.
• 7:11
[laughs] That was the motiv- That was the rationales of bringing that bike? That was honestly it. That was honestly it. And- It only has the two doors, right? Yeah. But it's got a...
• 7:20
Is it has a hatch though or something? Yeah, it's got a trunk and you can drop the seats. Is it a frunk? No, it's not a frunk. I have no idea. You gotta be a little engine in the trunk.
• 7:28
Well, a frunk has, is in the front where the- No... motor would normally be... no it is not... if you have the electric car. No, that's a... Yeah. Only the... Or a- Or a Porsche. [laughs] Or a vintage Beetle.
• 7:37
Oh, that too. There you go. [laughs] Same thing. All the good things. So- It's like, "Come on, mom and dad, let me ride in the frunk." [laughs] My dad did let me a little bit, just around the- Nice...
• 7:49
just a little, you know, just a- Was the half a block... was, was it open or closed? Closed. [laughs] Of course. Of course closed. Love you, Dad. [laughs] So you went to, uh, what's the, what's the shop up there? Nordor?
• 8:02
Yes. Nordor Cyclery. Nordor, yeah, and that's where I rented from. Hybrid, I felt very upright. And, but it was electric. Nope. Nope, nope, nope. Oh, no, it wasn't electric. Nope, nope, nope.
• 8:12
Oh, that's what we're getting to here. I, I wanted it to be. The... Okay, that's an area where, yeah, spend the extra 40 bucks and get a- Electric rental? Yeah, because
• 8:24
y- invariably, you're gonna run into a hill, and it's gonna be an annoying one. [laughs] And, you know, I mean, it's, there's- They're, they're kinda short, short and steep... I mean, there's no shame. There's...
• 8:33
Yeah, there's no shame- They're not, they're not long grinders... in getting off seat and walking, but I was still- The way it was flooded was...
• 8:38
I was still, I was still kinda nursing- I've never walked in that park in my life. I can... I was still nursing my damn ankle. Okay. So. Well, at least you've, uh- But-...
• 8:47
somewhat, somewhat seen at least a scenario where a, an electric bike might make sense- Yes, yes... for you down the road. I would... Yeah, I know. I'm a stubborn mule on that shit. It's your advanced age.
• 8:57
I, uh, I had my- I, I mean it, well, and I saw that Chewy's on the show today, so I, I figured [laughs] I had- I had my, uh-... I had to warm myself up... water heater.
• 9:04
I had, my water heater, uh, they were supposed to call me 30 minutes beforehand, and of course did not, so. You electric biked all the way home?
• 9:12
I, I had to electric bike over there, and the guy actually laughed because he's like, "You were hauling ass." And I'm like, "Well, you didn't give me my 30-minute notice, so I had to get here."
• 9:22
He's like, "It's okay, I locked my keys in my truck, so I'm gonna be here a while." [laughs] I'm like, "Bummer." Speaking of electric bikes, Tony, I, again, I...
• 9:31
These were in last week's show notes, but I don't think we really talked about them, 'cause Schlabowski was a good guest and he helped us not have to talk very much.
• 9:38
Uh, our, our good friends over at the Baby Maker company. Mm. What is it? Mm. F- FLX, is that the- FLX I believe is the brand, yes....com.
• 9:45
They're, they're launching a 1,000 watt weapon, a carbon fiber mountain bike on the Indiegogo now. What could possibly go wrong? [laughs] What could possibly go wrong?
• 9:57
It's not the Baby Maker 2, it's an electric, uh- 1,000 watt... an electric carbon fiber mountain bike, 1,000 watt. Mm. Apparently it's called the Weapon. How many people are gonna die on that thing? Ah, well.
• 10:08
Inexperienced riders that think they're Superman, which they'll find out they will be soon, but. Oh, with the, uh, the nice weather here we've had in Milwaukee, oh, there's so many on the, uh- On the path. Oh, my lord.
• 10:20
Oh, my lord. Oh, my lord. Oh, my lord. It has been September warm here at the end of October- It's been-... beginning of November... it's been b- beginning of June warm- Yeah... kinda. Yeah Beautiful.
• 10:31
It's gonna be beautiful. Beautiful. We got another... We have, we have another day or two from, from right now- Mm-hmm, mm-hmm... and even into next week it's still in the 60s. Wow, that's- This is unusual here. Yes.
• 10:41
Which is fine with me. I'll take it. Yeah, as long as it doesn't mean that July it's gonna be fitty again, like whatever it was, 60. It's fine. I'd rather have 50 July than 30 below- 100-... February, February... or 112.
• 10:56
Yeah, or 112 July for that matter, for sure. Like swamp bullshit. No. No, no, no. No. You got your fancy new house- No... with your air conditioning going in there, don't you? Mm-hmm. Uh, one, one final electric thing.
• 11:09
Oh. Again, might have mentioned it, but, uh, we built one for John Schlick's wife, a s- an electric Smitty. So there's now two electric Smittys. This one has a pretty hu- It's a bigger hub motor than Tony has.
• 11:23
It's another Bafang, but it's a direct drive, not geared. Front or rear? Front. Nice. It's very nice. It was a- Very nice... little, a little lots of, uh, cabling stuff going around.
• 11:37
I'd like to figure out a way to tidy up installs on, you know, aftermarket electric bike installs. Little more plug and play than snakey and wirey. Right. Right. But yeah, it was... It's great. She's liking it a lot.
• 11:55
I might have to make Wendy one. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Electric bike sh- show is now over. Yeah. The what? Oh, Top of the Hill Shaps. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. We have reached- The top of the hill shops.
• 12:12
The top of the hill. So you know what [laughs] another Door County thing- Door-ical
• 12:17
I think we've mentioned this at, in the past, but Nordor, I don't know if they still are, but they were the lar- the, the number one seller of Trek Madone, you know, 5 to $12,000 bikes- Uh, yeah... in the country. Right.
• 12:31
Yeah. I, I, I saw those guy- 'Cause every, every Fib, I mean, Chicago resident needs a second- They're not all from Chicago, dude. Some are from, like, Skokie and stuff Yeah. Okay. That's, that's true.
• 12:42
They're all Fibs though. I saw, I, I saw some sales in action. Yeah, 'cause they- And, well I- Everyone needs a second one up there because- And I looked around and I'm like, wow...
• 12:50
they don't wanna put it on their vehicle... it was all Trek BonTraeger. It was just... Yeah, yeah. Yeah. He's a, it's definitely- Wow... definitely drinking the Kool-Aid up there at the old Nordor. Yeah.
• 12:58
Oh, and, and okay, to be far, I've never ridden a- Chopper? [laughs]... hybrid. A chopper. [laughs] A hybrid where I felt like I'm just like, "Eh." It was- Weird... a very weird geometry. Very weird. Yeah.
• 13:12
Since you did top of the hill, we did, we, did we skip right over having a beer? No. Oh, yeah. I just hit it and we're, we're going. We got there. We're there. We're still here. Let's see.
• 13:21
We're just, we're walking up the tower, Eagle Tower. I'd, I'd like you guys to try it and I'll, uh- Say how much you love it... I, I just wanna know what your opinion is. After, um- Stinks...
• 13:32
they used to have, they used to have a- He has a good nose... they used to have a decent hobby shop up there at the old top of the hill shops with trains, planes, and automobiles. I- Oh, shit. B- Oh, oh.
• 13:43
There, wait, wait. [laughs] Damn child. I didn't do it. Who's, who's spilling the beer? Oh, Christ. [laughs] Jeez, man. You got paper towels or something? That's a serious mess. Want a diaper? I mean, a bib- Yeah...
• 13:56
or whatever. I don't know. [laughs] I think my, my phone's beer-proof as far as I know. I- Get a guess... well, we'll find out. [laughs] Here, let's just... But it's a- Go ahead, talk amongst yourselves.
• 14:07
I'm just- [laughs] Yeah. I'm gonna get a squeegee here. We'll, uh, we'll tell Greg what he's missing. It's, uh, the City Lights Brewing Company Brewmaster Series. Yeah.
• 14:18
This seems like it's a- It is a special TIPA batch 02, alcohol content of 7.3. Mm-hmm. With 45 IBUs. The type is claims to be sour peach India pale ale. Yeah.
• 14:35
Um, I'm not a sour person. Uh- Well, when you cut it with something- Like-... heavy... this heavy, I think- Yeah... it kinda works. I mean, a, a, a true sour is, whoa. All right. I've got the, uh- Oh, it doesn't matter.
• 14:50
We're talking... the second beer issue today already. Why are you inter- interrupting? Ah. [laughs] Yeah. It's, um, it's... You don't want a bunch of them. But you could see yourself drinking a bunch, honestly. Yeah.
• 15:05
I mean, it's, it's- If, if somebody kept handing you them, like, "Hey, give me a beer" But-... and it just ended up being this.
• 15:10
See, my wife likes to occasionally come home with a random beer for me and, and, uh, this was- Bless-... a pretty good one... bless your heart, Molly. [laughs] Yeah. She, she takes care of me pretty well.
• 15:21
Or curse her heart tomorrow. [laughs] Look at how, look at how dirty this got- Never know... with all this beer on it. Yeah. I, so- Just doing some housekeeping over, across the microphone...
• 15:29
the first, the first cleaning of the table in- Well, baptism by beer. Yeah. JK mentioned something earlier before we started the show about this being, like, our fourth year sort of. Yeah.
• 15:43
There- Tell me something about that. It would- We've been doing this that long? What the hell? We're- Yeah, yeah... kind of gluttons for punishment... apparently four years ago, November 1st,
• 15:54
um, on the face place, at least then I had, like, put whatever on my bio thing, like, "Blathering Fool at Full Spectrum Cycling." Ah. So it was one of those.
• 16:07
Either it was when we started this or when I acknowledged that I'm- Doing this... doing this. [laughs] One or the other. Yeah, I don't remember. [laughs] So- It's been a long time... I'm figuring it. Yeah.
• 16:19
Yeah, math is hard, but just go with it. Yeah, four, yeah, four years. What the hell is that noise? I'll, I'll- Oh... take it as the, uh, this past weekend Kim and I s- uh, celebrated our nine-year anniversary. Whoo.
• 16:37
But we don't have actually a date, so it's, like, around the Halloween- It was around Halloween time... around Halloween time that your fault, it was your fault that we got together. Yeah. I remember that.
• 16:49
[laughs] So when it all comes down to it, it's not us so much as well as his fault. [laughs] That's legit. Well- [laughs] It just works out that way... this is when the Post was still open. I do remember that. Mm-hmm.
• 17:03
The Shorewood VFW Post. Oh. Or was it? Yeah. Well, that only closed recently.
• 17:08
Well, yeah, but this was when it was still open, and for some reason there was people talking in my ear and I had to ignore it and then somebody turned to Michael and he was there.
• 17:17
[laughs] So there you have it, the introduction. The intro. So how do you like it? All right. Well, now that I'm not spilling it all over the place, uh,
• 17:31
it tastes sort of like cotton candy on the finish or something weird. It's sweet-ish. I don't know. It's not bad. Like a sour peach? But, uh, it clean- Is that it?
• 17:42
It clean- it cleans, uh, uh, mechanical devices quite well... shiny, yeah. Yeah. S- still moist over there. Moist. I will say. Yeah. Well, I spilled very well.
• 17:54
There wasn't really that much there, but what the hell is going on here? Okay. Are the chips okay? All right. The chips are not okay. Uh, so yeah. So let's, uh, let's see what's going on.
• 18:08
So during- Why is it always the weekend?... so during that entire damn adventure, I ended up actually... Oh. I'm not one for, like, that crazy Solomons- Bloody Mary thing Oh yeah, it's terrible But
• 18:24
that was about a minute and a half out of Twivers. Twivers? Travers At, uh, [lips smack] Grizzlies. Grizzlies Bar and Grill, home of the Whiskey Kissed Burger. And for 15 bucks,
• 18:42
this monstrosity. Are those tater tots, or- Yes Jesus Christ Curds and, curds and tater tots Must, must, uh, send for...
• 18:52
Oh, what the, what the- It was excessive It is excessive But for 15 bucks I was like, "Fuck it, give me it." And a beet "Give me it. Why not?" I mean, it took a close to a half hour to get it, but whatever.
• 19:04
Well, they gotta cook- Uh-... cook the tots No-... and shit But it had like the- It took so long... normal accoutrement of, uh, a Bloody Mary, you know? Like the pickle- How was the bloody, by the way? It was fine.
• 19:14
I mean, it wasn't- Mm... anything special 'cause- Mm... everything else is whatever. Right, right. I mean, it was like Zing Zang or Mis- or Mrs. T. Well. You know? And... But they made a point of, like-
• 19:26
S- The beef of the burger, it's, uh- Mm... uh, locally raised and- Oh... I mean, they were being very, like, diligent about, like... It was, uh, the- Oh, cool. That's cool...
• 19:35
Oh, and there was a, um, like a section of, uh, baby back ribs on there too. Oh, nice. There was a shitload- Baby back, baby back, baby back ribs... of shit on there, man. So is that why you missed El Rongo?
• 19:45
And they're like, "Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, we smoked the... You know, y- uh, the owner smoked that outside, uh, yesterday- Oh, cool... and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah." And I was like, "The... Fucking why not?"
• 19:53
Well, that's good. That's good. I mean- It was decent? Yeah, uh, I mean, it, it offsets the, like, walking in and going like, "Oh, great. We're watching [laughs] Fox News Channel." Um- Oh. But, I mean, it... 'tis the...
• 20:04
That's what you get- Yeah, yeah... up in those lands. So is this the reason you missed El Rongo? This weekend? Yes. Oh, 'cause I didn't miss El Rongo. Greg, did you miss El Rongo? Where was El Rongo?
• 20:15
I did not miss El Rongo. Where do they, they play? Heap Fest 7. But where was the Heap Fest? On Buffum at a house. Oh. It was really pretty decent. I was- Where's Buffum? They, they did very well.
• 20:27
Actually, their sound was- I-... as good as I think I've heard them... uh, yeah, the show itself, the whole... I mean, I wish I coulda had stayed longer for the event.
• 20:33
It turned out Paul Teldony has played a number of those. Really? His band, yep. Nice. So- I got, I got some photos Yeah, I hear from, I hear great things...
• 20:39
you can see those in the show notes I get Heap Fest and Trash Fest kinda- Yeah... inter- It was, it was-... change... entertaining. There was some good people watching, some furries.
• 20:50
I got some headbanging photos of some head bangers. Yeah, those head bangers with their long-ass hair. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that, it was very, uh, a very b- And it was a beautiful day. Yeah, it was gorgeous.
• 21:01
It was in the day. So they had 15 bands in 12 hours. Nice. And a fridge full of beer. [laughs] And a fridge full of beer and- They just kept yelling, "If anybody want a beer, it's in the fridge."
• 21:11
And we would go get a beer. Was this Friday- I w- I was planning on going back later... was this Friday or Saturday? Saturday probably. Saturday, yeah. Right on. Yeah. No, I, I... No, I'm just in...
• 21:21
I'm just, like, [laughs] trying to, like, compute what I was doing at that time, and I'm like, "I don't r- r- r-" Yeah, El Rongo went on about 2:15. Crushed it. Crushed it. As well they do. Yeah, yeah. Good stuff.
• 21:35
I just kept hearing popsicles. [laughs] Popsicles. Of course, he did that just for me. So yeah. So Jeff- 'Cause he's that cool... Jeff had mentioned that he wants, like, for the opener in,
• 21:47
the opening, uh, musica- Intro Oh, right... there's a little... Uh, he threw it out there for us to, like, do our show from... if we can do a remote from his house. Oh, yeah. Or- Or from wherever... yeah, we can do that.
• 22:04
Or some, or, or somewhere in between. All right. Well, hey, I gotta push a button over here. Oh, shit. Oh, man. Oh. Sounds like code. W- uh, welcome to the p- Oh. Ow... radio program, caller. Who do we have on the line?
• 22:16
[laughs] This is Chewy. Quit pushing that button so goddamn hard. It hurt my ears. What did... Did it go beep? I don't even know what happens when I push the button. [laughs] No, it's the wrong hole.
• 22:25
[laughs] It was a- You're pushing the wrong hole... it, it was a really loud beep this time. I, yeah, I don't, I don't- What's up, guys? I don't control- It's gonna be me...
• 22:33
the technology on that end, [laughs] only on this end. Oh, we're just blathering away here, uh, waiting for you to call since, uh, otherwise our, you know- We need-... our, our, our show-... we need filler...
• 22:44
we need filler. We- I'm-... we need Chewy. Can, [laughs] can any of you guys play goaltender? I need a goalie in about, uh, an hour and a half. It- Well- No, uh-... that'd be a- If I hadn't rolled-...
• 22:55
pretty swift trip up there. Maybe if I had an e-bike I could get up there in time. Yeah, if I, if I didn't roll my ankle I could- Yeah, oh... I'd get butterfly in the fucking net. [imitates sticks clashing] Ah, yeah.
• 23:04
So is that still the preferred way to go, the butterfly? It's not the just flop your belly in front of the puck- It is... kinda thing? Uh- Butterfly...
• 23:11
I've gone back to the old half knee style 'cause my hip says, "You're not doing a butterfly anymore." [laughs] Hips, hips don't lie, baby. But I think the half knee is good.
• 23:20
So, uh, I- That's assuming, that's assuming a guy my age can actually have a style. [laughs] You got all s- You got style all day long, baby. Yeah. Great. It's been a while since we chatted. It's been a long time.
• 23:31
What's happening up there- It's been a long time... besides hockey? A- and, uh, does it- Um-... does that happen 12 months a year? Or is there actually a month- 13... where there is no hockey? [laughs] It's like 13.
• 23:39
13 months a year. They overlap. We take August. [laughs] We take, we take August off, that's it. [laughs] Yeah. And then we double up in September or something. [laughs] High school's ramping up. Yeah. We, uh...
• 23:50
High, high school starts in two weeks, so we're getting ready for that. Little kids have started now. I just, I just went and watched, uh, one of my little goalies practice.
• 23:59
They play the game tonight, so I went and watched those guys play. And, and, um, yeah, it's been kind of a mess around here the last couple weeks. Right on. We've, uh... It's, it's busy. A lot of shit going on. Yeah.
• 24:15
And, um, we are gonna do a podcast to... Well, let's see, wait. We're gonna do a podcast last night. Nice [laughs] Got it. Excellent internet time, Chuey. Got it. Good internet time, Chuey.
• 24:27
[laughs] So can you, uh- We, uh, we- Can you tell us what might be on that show when we get to it? Yeah, it, it, we, you know, it's... We, we were gonna do one over a month ago.
• 24:38
God, has it been that long since I've done one? It might've been. It's been a spell. Um, a couple things are gonna be on there that- Let's see how much of a slacker Chuey's been on shows...
• 24:47
well, okay, so just two days away. [laughs] Yeah. Oh yeah, it would be August. Yeah. Um, so what we're planning on is, um, if anybody listened to the podcast we did about Chuck Saltus, the fireman, he passed away.
• 25:01
Yeah, I was sad to hear that. I saw you sent a text about it, and, uh, yeah- So, uh-... it, he was interesting shows. He had some good stories, for sure. Yeah, he had great stories.
• 25:12
Um, it was a, that was, uh, two weeks ago. Um, we lost another good friend in the meantime, um, longtime basketball coach here in town.
• 25:21
Uh, he o- he holds the record for the, the most wins, uh, in, in the state, um, Hall of Fame for coaches and stuff, so we lost him to the s- like two days later, so that was rough. Um- Gee...
• 25:32
and we got a pretty interesting bicycle theft deal. Um, and it's gotten stranger and stranger since it's been going on. It, uh, I... You guys probably deal with it a lot more than we do. Um,
• 25:45
this one is so fucking blatant, it just pisses me off. I, not only... Let's, I'll put it this way. He stole the bike from the hockey rink. We have video of him stealing the bike.
• 25:54
They catch him stealing the bike the next day.
• 25:58
A friend of mine shows me another video later of him stealing a bike out of a garage on the north side of town, and then just on Facebook here last week I saw a picture of somebody said they lost a bike, and here's a picture of the guy, and it's the same fucking guy.
• 26:10
And why does he still have knees? We have never seen the guy. Yeah, right. [laughs] Why are his knees still a part of h- the... Yeah. Functioning. Because we can't find the guy.
• 26:19
The cops seem to be able to find him, but we can't find him. And they're not- Hmm... they just, it's not on their radar to say that you can't do that. You should maybe sit in a- Jail...
• 26:28
at least somewhere for a little bit- Mm-hmm... for a couple of two, three days or something? Mm-hmm. No, they, they arrested him. They charged him. He was...
• 26:35
I, you know, I don't know what happened to the charges because one was an e-bike. Now, see, I don't think he should've been charged for that. [laughs] No. That, no- I, I think he should only get a little bit charged...
• 26:42
that's why it's, yeah, Ulock Justice time. [laughs] Yeah. But, but you know, that's, that's a federal b- or that's a federal offense because it's over $1,500. I don't know why. And then- Yep...
• 26:53
the other ones weren't, so he had like, he had two charges with him at that time. Um, but you know, I, I, I don't know. The guy probably doesn't have any money.
• 27:01
Um, you know, he's, uh, there's other things about him that I know that I really can't say, but, um, um, uh, I don't know, I don't know what else they can do. Right, he got arrested.
• 27:11
I mean, I think honestly I'm not, I'm n- I'm not blaming the cops. There's nothing else they can do about it. You know, they can, they can eventually put him away, but
• 27:19
you know, it's still kind of petty- Just wants to keep-... compared to other things, I guess. I don't know. Well, you know.
• 27:25
But even, but that, that, that e-bike, he had it sold because he got caught the next day on another theft,
• 27:32
and they asked him about the e-bike, and, and, um, I'll post, I'll post the pictures of it when I, when, when we do this on Thursday.
• 27:40
Um, but he literally, you know, um, we have, we have cameras that caught him in the act of cutting the bolts and everything, and they caught him, showed it to him, charged him with it.
• 27:50
He said, "No, I sold the bike right away." I'm sure he just traded it for drugs. You know, it's, that's all there is to it. Um, so- Denied again... I don't, I don't know.
• 27:58
I, you know, it's, it's becoming more commonplace in Rochester. I don't know. You guys are in a bigger city. It seems like it's... I don't know, man. Yeah, we- It still bothers me either place...
• 28:07
we, we have, we have like s- we have rash spurts slash- Yeah...
• 28:11
um, times when it's more noticeable than others, and, uh, the last time we had a big kind of, you know, several weeks or months of thefts, it was the same guy.
• 28:22
They, they, they had pictures of him from porch cams and backyard cams and other things, and, um, but I haven't heard a lot lately about it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen all the time anyway, at least in our own little neck of the woods here.
• 28:35
Well, right, um, yeah, I mean, I g- yeah, it's easier to catch like a ring. I know in the Minneapolis area they have...
• 28:42
It usually goes on long enough until they find the garage, the house, the basement, wherever the guy is storing all the stolen bicycles, and that's when they c- they don't catch him until then usually.
• 28:52
So that's, and that's understandable. I'm not, you know, again, like I'm not blaming anybody for anything. It's just, it's, it's- Well, I am... rough when it happens to you. It's just- Yeah... really strange.
• 29:01
Well, that sucks. And I, I've, I've only had one bike stolen. I, you know, I had my pink Surly stolen, um, and that was locked up and everything too, and it's like,
• 29:10
you know, kind of, who w- uh, who, besides that, who would steal that piece of crap is beyond me. But [laughs] it was rusted. Well- The seat post was rusted in place. I, I had- It was already in the crank house...
• 29:20
I, I had the w- the wheel set, I had the wheel set that got stolen, oh, by the way. I never got mine back. But, well, I got mine back. Yeah. By the way, by the way, I will finish that story. [laughs] It's been, what,
• 29:33
eight years in the making? Nice. [laughs] So Chuey, uh- [laughs] One of the things I wanted to check in with you about is the potential for a Santa cycle rampage up there in Rochester. Is that- Yes...
• 29:45
something that's gonna happen this year? Thanks for bringing that up. Yes, I [laughs] I've actually been,
• 29:52
um, uh, we decided, right, we, you and I talked a little bit yesterday, but, um, um, we decided to go ahead and go with it. We're gonna do December 3rd.
• 30:00
Uh, b- thank you, COVID, it screwed up my hockey schedule, so that's really the only weekend in December I can do it, so it's gonna be that first weekend in December for us.
• 30:09
Um, we'll do, I don't, I haven't looked ahead at the weather, so I'll plan on the same microbrew, microbrew, microbrew stops, uh, that we did last time. That seems to be a fan favorite.
• 30:20
Maybe if it's, the weather stays like this and we get nice weather, maybe we could do a slightly longer ride.
• 30:25
I mean, it's- 14, 15 miles by the time you get back anyway, but it's, uh, um, I have to go find a new costume for some strange reason.
• 30:34
[laughs] So even after last year's, uh, episode, uh, Sue still says it's all right for you to do it, huh? Uh, not necessarily. [laughs] Caveats, caveats abound.
• 30:48
[laughs] Well, okay, here, so, so you, so Dece- There's a few, yeah... are, are you, are you definitely locked in on December 3rd? Because that is, that's the same day- Yeah...
• 30:57
as it happens here, but Santa Rampage in Milwaukee has go- gone off the rails. This year it's a 2,000-person cop-led- Yeah, it's not-... g- parade. It's not really even- Well, the o- the official yada-yada.
• 31:10
Yeah, right And then they have satellites where we just... Well, I, so- Ah...
• 31:16
a- and then Madison is on the 10th, which I think is cool because it's not the same weekend as it happens here, and not gonna, you know, siphon off people from here that wanna do it. But, uh,
• 31:29
I, I, I put Ziegel's handsome shop bike back together. As much as I love that thing, he was like, kinda like, "I kinda want it back." [laughs] He kinda wanted it. So.
• 31:39
[laughs] Sorry, sorry about the no take back thing, but take back. No, no, no. He, we just, he, we never- No.
• 31:44
[laughs] We never came up with something kinda to trade for it, and I'm like, "Yeah, well, I've got a couple other bikes kinda like that anyway, and I've... You know, it's just slightly too big for me really."
• 31:52
So I'm like, "Yeah, I'll give it ba- I'll put it back the way I found it and give it back to you."
• 31:57
So I need to go to Madison anyway, so whether I do it on the way up to Rochester, 'cause I think I'd rather come up there and do your event on the 3rd than stay here, honestly.
• 32:06
It's also Global Fat Bike Day on December 3rd. I thought it was 12. Frost Bike too, right? So. And, and it's Frost Bike. Ah, yeah. It's, it's always Frost Bike, isn't it? I just beat you to that. Hey. Hey. I, uh, I, I...
• 32:19
Th- and part of the reason I decided to do it again, uh, for no other reason other, I, we talked about coming to Milwaukee 'cause, you know, we've been to Milwaukee for theirs.
• 32:28
And then picking another date, and then, like I said, I don't, I don't have another open weekend that I could do it. Um, unless I did it in, in November sometime, but, um, I'm not doing anything before Thanksgiving.
• 32:38
I refuse to do that, so that's just me being me. But anyway- That's thanks taking... this sort of worked out really good for my hockey schedule, and it seems like it works out.
• 32:46
And, and, and, and, like, the bigger reason I wanna do it is it's, um, it's for Toys for Tots, and we've filled a bill trailer full of toys four years and three years in a row now, and I'm not gonna stop doing that.
• 32:59
So that's, we might just go make the Santa Rampage, and I might as well run into a fucking wall again, I guess. I don't know. [laughs] Yeah. Well, well, I'm- Or not...
• 33:06
I, I'm gonna make reservations at that same hotel, so I d- that was really a good place to stay. It's very nice rooms there. Is it- It's a perfect spot every year... was it a Clarion?
• 33:15
What the- I'll be staying with you... I forget what it is. But it was a nice place. And, and- Uh, Clarion, yeah, Clarion Inn, yeah. What I, what I remember- Yeah, it's, um, uh-...
• 33:21
besides you not coming back immediately, what I remember about that was that Lunz and I, well, we'd stayed in- [laughs] This is like the first time I've ever heard, like, "Oh, yes, it was a, oh my God, that Clarion."
• 33:32
[laughs] Well, whatever it is, it's right, it's right- Oh, that budget hell- It's right-... it was a smashing success. That continental breakfast they had, I shit you not.
• 33:39
No, it's right down the hill from the 63 Club there, or Club whatever it's called. Club 63 or 63 Club, one of these things. 63 Club, yeah. Right. Yeah.
• 33:47
It's right down the hill, which basically you shouldn't even have to pedal to get back to it, unless there's a wall in your way. Uh, be that as it may, Lunz and I stayed in that room- Yeah, don't get...
• 33:57
did we- At the, at the, at the old hotel... I think we stayed there for two days. We came up, we stayed there, we did the ride, we stayed there, and then we left. But he never slept in the bed.
• 34:04
He slept on the couch both [laughs] or p- Oh, sure... passed out on the couch. I don't know. But, um, yeah. Sucking, yeah. So. Really sucking. Right? So is, is he- No, and I, so- Is he welcome up there again this year?
• 34:15
[laughs] Yeah. [laughs] Yeah. There's not a bounty? [laughs] If you remember correctly, he was, we were riding back to go do the podcast at
• 34:24
63 Club that you said wouldn't work, and it worked out obvious, but obvious, obviously aw- awesome. Um, but, um- Right. Well, what do I know about podcasts? He was, remember, we, remember dro- Podcaster as hell...
• 34:35
we dropped him off at the hotel on the way to the 63 Club, if you remember. So he was, he, so we got, he w- didn't become Dave before we took him home. Right. So it worked out well. Oh, that did work out well.
• 34:44
Anyway, I do have the picture. I'll, I will, uh, I will, uh, send you the picture. I don't know if you still have it of Dave and I on the couch at Kenny Creek. You remember that one?
• 34:51
When you were comparing your Crocs and kicking at each other like children? Yes. [laughs] I do remember that. [laughs] Yes, yes. [laughs] You probably took the picture. That may very well be. Uh, well, excellent. Yeah.
• 35:02
So, um, I, I'll, I'll, uh, I'll, I'll keep you informed and everybody else informed of... Um, I would assume we'll sta- start at Brothers Taco. Jed's brothers wants in big time again.
• 35:14
Um, again, we'll talk to Toys for Tots. We'll talk to them and get that taken care of. I'll get my connections going there, and I mean, that's, I'm, it, it's simple.
• 35:23
I, it, granted, a m- it's only, it's, uh, less than a month away, but heck, I can, we can s- we threw this shit together in no time. We've done this for far too many times, so- Right on... we're gonna do it. Yeah.
• 35:32
I, well, I thought about going s- I thought about going to another city and doing somebody else's, but, um, um, I, between you mentioning something about wondering if we were doing it and my travel time is really short this year for when I'm gonna be able to go.
• 35:45
Our hockey season's really strange this year. We've, um, we've picked up, we're not the best team in the state, but we are playing the top five of the top 10 state teams in the state in the first, like, three weeks.
• 35:59
So- Yikes... we've got our work cut out for us. So it's- Yeah... gonna be busy, and it's gonna be cool. So yeah, so it's gonna work out great. It'll be fun.
• 36:06
Um, I would assume that the core will do the weekend after, like we've always done, so that would be, what, the 10th? Yep, the 10th. Yep. And is, does- That's what I figure there's a chance of getting it...
• 36:17
does Lee Allen spearhead that one, or does somebody else kinda take the reins on that one? Uh, I think Lee has done it. I, I, like, I can't go. I, again, I've got a game.
• 36:27
I'm, I'll be in Hibbing that weekend, so I haven't been able to go down. Lee's the one that started it, and if he's, I think he's still running it as far as I know.
• 36:34
It's very small and it's more just a, it's more than a Santa Rampage, it's more of a Santa bar hop. It's pretty fun though. I mean, it's, it's... You can go down there, it's all the hot, the hotspots.
• 36:44
We go to Pivo and we go to Dixie and ends up at, at Haymarket. I think it actually starts at Haymarket and they just do a big loop around town.
• 36:51
So- Ride up and down Water Street and wave at everybody, and people get a kick out of it, so. For sure. Yeah. Well, since you're gonna be in Hibbing, then that means you're- Oh...
• 36:58
that means the house not on the lake is gonna be [laughs] open for sleeping on the- It's, yes... living room floor, yeah? Yep. Yeah, so that's right, the house on the lake will be available, yeah.
• 37:07
Um, oh, and the bowling alley down there has gone, like, ape shit crazy. It's got a fucking awesome bar now and fancy blue lights and a bunch of video games, and it's- Oh, Cosmic Bowling-...
• 37:19
really kinda cool place to go hang out... and shitery They have, and they got the fireplace outside on the, on the, on the patio they built now, so that's, that might interest you guys in coming down just for that. Yeah.
• 37:29
We'll have to- That'd be cool... keep that one in mi- I mean, it's definitely- Yeah... on the radar. I'm gonna call my fancy Nancy. Yeah, for sure. I mean, again, the, so the- Yeah, yeah...
• 37:36
the one in Madison on the 10th is also a Wisconsin Bike Fed, uh, event, and it's a fundraiser, but- Oh, I just need to be- Eh... in the area. I don't need to- I think-... sit there and- I think Decorah's-... watch...
• 37:47
got... We gotta, we gotta spread this far and wide.
• 37:49
It's, Santa Rampages don't go to other cities unless somebody from another city's done one somewhere else before, so then they can spread the love in their own hometown, and that seems to be the way it's been spreading, so.
• 38:03
We'll come and- Well- I don't know if we'll get on TV this year. Yeah. But, uh, if, if we don't, it's not for lack of trying.
• 38:10
[laughs] Well, and you know, the other thing is, is I don't know if you guys came outside with LTS when the, when the, uh, handicap van pulled up and the, and the gal that was stuck in a wheelchair was there, and she loved the Grinch, and we got to go out and hang out with her.
• 38:22
And I really hope we run into those guys again. That was just pure, dumb luck, but that was, like, like, made her millennium, I think. That was fun, so- That was awesome...
• 38:29
uh, now I'm, I- Yeah, we, yeah, we were definitely there for that. Cool. I am working on my new Grinch costume as, as we speak.
• 38:36
I'm going to try to go with the, uh, um, with the prosthesis one so I can actually talk for a change. Nice. But I gotta paint it. It's gonna be a project. So his mouth actually moves versus just a mask of- Yes...
• 38:48
anonymity. Yep. Yeah. And I can actually maybe breathe when I'm riding with it. That's the thing that makes me nervous is how much I'm gonna sweat. And the- But we, we have like 10 of these guys...
• 38:57
visibility out of that thing has to be horrible, too. It's like, can you see- Right... that car coming from the right? No. Oh, no. [laughs] Smack. Oh, oh. No, you didn't.
• 39:04
That's what- This one's gonna be better than the other one, but the other one wasn't all that bad. It was just trying to breathe through that thing, 'cause there was just a tiny slit for...
• 39:10
[laughs] I made the slit big enough, like, you could get a straw through it so I could drink through it, and that was about it. [laughs] No, I did that with my Bane mask.
• 39:16
I had to, like, cut a thing just so I could put a straw through it. FYI- [laughs] That'd be expensive...
• 39:23
uh, the last show that, the last show that we posted from you, Chewy, was September 14th, so it's, it's not quite two months. That's okay. Really? That's okay. Kinda sad, but we were trying to do more than that, yeah.
• 39:33
[laughs] And, and, and be honest with you, until, until the bikes got stolen, it's been kinda quiet around here. I mean, the Tuesday night rides are, which have switched to Thursday are, there's two or three guys.
• 39:44
Everybody's just... The group that we've been riding with for years and years and years now have children of an age that they're, you know, some of them are racing in the Bike Federation, and they're busy.
• 39:55
And, uh, um, some other ones have just got children, so they're busy in a different way. And so yeah, it's, it's, um, uh, it's a different group that's riding now. I mean, it's- Hmm... it's kinda getting that way.
• 40:07
Yeah, but- But Abby get out riding more, so that's good. Right on. I like that. Well, thanks for the update. All right. And, uh, keep us posted on- Yeah... the actual Rampage plans, because that's on my radar for sure.
• 40:18
Uh, Lunz is- Okay... is a tentative because he doesn't know exactly when it's happening yet.
• 40:23
But- We'd like to, we'd like to bring- I'm tentative because- We'd like to bring some, uh, you know, outside talent into the event if we [laughs] can. [laughs] You brought it up yesterday.
• 40:30
I'm going like, "Jesus Christ, that's a month and a half away- Uh-huh... ish." I like to plan ahead just a little. Well, I, I, I understand. Well, at least vis-a-vis the- I mean, it makes sense...
• 40:39
vis-a-vis the, uh, hotel room, so. Yeah, it does make sense, but I mean- Right... my brain doesn't really work that way. I'm just like, "Shit, you're asking me to think about something a month from now? Fuck, dude."
• 40:49
[laughs] I'm like, "That's not how I really operate," but- Glory, glory. Hallelujah... I'm like, I'm like, "Um, well, yeah, uh, put me, you know, write me in in pencil as a maybe."
• 40:57
Well, there'll be a room if- Write me in as- If you decide at the last minute-... in pencil as a maybe... there will be a room. There we go. Yeah, for sure.
• 41:03
All right, Chewy, well, uh, we'll look forward to the new episode of, uh, Chewy's Salon Chair, and talk to you soon. All right, see you guys. Nice talking to y'all again. See you then. Okay. All right. Keep in touch.
• 41:13
See you, Chew. Bye. Yep, bye. Chewy, ladies and gentlemen. Mm. I guess December 3rd, which I think is fine. I'll go up there instead of this one this year.
• 41:23
I, I, I really do like being in, in areas outside of Milwaukee for, uh, these Santa Rampage events, and Global Fat Bike Day even, which is also that day, so I assume we'll have to take a fat bike up there, I guess.
• 41:36
Whatever. Sitting here thinking about why that date sounds so familiar to me and- Did you get- It's my daughter's birthday. [laughs] Oh, I was gonna say, you didn't get...
• 41:45
No, I know you didn't get married on that day, but, uh- Nope, nope, nope, nope. It's your daughter's birthday. It's Corinne's birthday. Well, what better- Happy birthday... what better day to leave her? 17 or 18? 17. 17.
