Transcript
- 0:13Good afternoon. Welcome in Miller and Condon on
- 0:16the air with you on a Tuesday as we take the world talk the world
- 0:20to sports. Take it up until 2:00 here this
- 0:22afternoon. Ken.
- 0:25No, he's not retiring early. Well, he is for me, but he's out
- 0:29for a couple of days. He's going to take a couple of
- 0:31days off here using up that PTO. So hanging out with me for the
- 0:34next couple of days. You've heard his voice here
- 0:37before. You hear him locked on cyclones.
- 0:39He is Nick Marvitz with us here today.
- 0:41Nick, good to see you once again and good to see you in person.
- 0:44We've done it plenty of times on video streams and crossover
- 0:48podcast episodes. You locked on cyclones, be
- 0:50locked on Hawkeyes. But today you made your way to
- 0:53the capital city. What's happening?
- 0:54That's what I was just going to say is it's crazy to actually be
- 0:57in person, meet you and see what the studio is all about.
- 0:59It's it's super nice. So I feel like it's going to
- 1:02elevate our sports talk level for today.
- 1:04I I hope so. I certainly hope that's the case
- 1:07coming up here today. We got a lot going on, obviously
- 1:09in the world of sports. NBANHL playoffs, we'll talk
- 1:12about that. Timberwolves get it done in game
- 1:14#1 coming up here on the guest list at 12:25.
- 1:17We're going to talk about the Timberwolves.
- 1:19We're going to talk about a whole bunch of different things
- 1:22in Minnesota. The Twins, well, not a whole lot
- 1:24to talk about there. Joe Ryan with the latest injury
- 1:27and the main beat for Mizutani is the Minnesota Vikings coming
- 1:31off the draft, potentially looking for a new GM Lots going
- 1:35on. And of course, the wild, his old
- 1:36beat as they look to bounce back after the 96 loss in game one
- 1:40against Colorado. That's coming up here at 12:25
- 1:43in the 1:00 hour. We'll talk more NBA playoffs.
- 1:46Sloan Pipe is going to join us. We'll also talk a little
- 1:48gambling with Sloan. He likes to get involved in that
- 1:50space. Sloan's going to come up here
- 1:52and we'll talk about has some of the gambling thoughts that he
- 1:54has at 1:25 at the end of the show.
- 1:56Each and every day I give you my picks of the day present a
- 1:59biserk of sports and that will be at about 1:50 this afternoon.
- 2:03Coming off a winning day, something that has been a bit of
- 2:06a rarity here as of late. We jump aboard with a three and
- 2:09two night last night and we put .3 units into the account.
- 2:12So sometimes you just got to take it, got to stack it up from
- 2:15time to time. Positive is positive, no doubt
- 2:17about it. So Nick, last night we talked
- 2:20before and we'll get to know you a little bit more here later in
- 2:23this hour. Want to got a couple of
- 2:25questions. I'm going to fire at you.
- 2:27It has become the offseason for both of us on the college beat.
- 2:30And I know for our listeners out there, spring football's over,
- 2:33basketball season's over, recruiting ramps up and there's
- 2:35things to talk about. But this is the time where
- 2:38certainly in this market, the college sports are starting to
- 2:41dry up. So we get back involved with a
- 2:43lot of the NBA. The NHLI don't watch during the
- 2:46regular season really either of those sports a whole lot.
- 2:48But I dive back into it, the NBA playoffs after the first opening
- 2:53round and then of course the playing round and the first
- 2:55couple of days really just had not been very many good games.
- 2:58Finally got to see one last night.
- 2:59Now it's also the team that I root for.
- 3:00I'm a Timberwolves fan, so that makes it a little different, a
- 3:03little bit easier. How about you for somebody?
- 3:06And you're also younger than me. And because of that, I know that
- 3:09really changes sometimes. Perspective, sports you like,
- 3:12kind of things like that. When it gets to this time, are
- 3:14you a big NBA guy? Are you a hockey guy?
- 3:16Anything like that? And do the playoffs change it at
- 3:19all for you? Yeah, I mean, I watch more now
- 3:21when it's the playoffs than I do during the regular season.
- 3:23I would say I'm a pretty fair weather fan for NBA.
- 3:26Anything that's as good basketball, I'll watch.
- 3:29I like the NHL probably more just in comparison, but I think,
- 3:33you know, playoff anything is going to be electric, right?
- 3:36And so I've I've always got sports on the TV.
- 3:38No, no doubt, yes, yeah, always got to have that go away.
- 3:41God. So Timberwolves last night, I
- 3:42want to start with this. I'm flip on the TV, get the kids
- 3:46to bed. And that that's something that
- 3:49is different than what you're dealing with right now.
- 3:50So you get the kids to bed and it really puts a big hole into
- 3:54the middle of the sports viewing.
- 3:56You know, we try to get upstairs by 8:15, 8-30, something like
- 3:59that, and then go through story time, all the different things.
- 4:03And then finally by 9:15, usually I'm back in front of the
- 4:07television. So then I always have that weird
- 4:09decision. Do I want to hit pause and pick
- 4:12up the game that I was watching? Do I just look on my phone, see
- 4:15what the score is, jump in there.
- 4:16Now if it's I or I was state playing like a basketball game
- 4:19during the winter time, like a random Tuesday night, one of
- 4:21them were playing it just paused.
- 4:23Don't look at the phone, jump back in.
- 4:25That's the way that I do it. But for something like this, it
- 4:27is a little bit different of having that in there, but I get
- 4:30there. I flip on NBC and the next game
- 4:33still going on and this is a 30 point blowout.
- 4:36Like are they delaying what is going on here?
- 4:40Because I hadn't looked at, well, we don't look at TV Guides
- 4:42anymore and hadn't looked. I just anticipated that it was
- 4:45going to be the Knicks Sixers game and then it was going to go
- 4:48into the Timberwolves Spurs game last night.
- 4:50That was not the case. It was on Peacock, which was
- 4:53incredibly annoying because old man yelling at Cloud here got
- 4:59smart TV's all over the house. That's fine, but it's just how
- 5:03cumbersome it is. You go to the Peacock app, then
- 5:06you jump over. For me, Directvi want to flip
- 5:09back and forth between that and hockey game.
- 5:11And I also had a wager on the Ducks last night.
- 5:13So that was another reason. But it I know it's 20 seconds,
- 5:16but it's just I like to hit the back button just doing that.
- 5:20So how old am I sounding to you right now, Nick?
- 5:22No, I hate 20 seconds is a long, long time, especially when
- 5:27you're when you're flipping between games and you've got
- 5:28money on one of them especially. So I totally get that.
- 5:31And for me, the biggest thing is finding which platform has the
- 5:37game. It shouldn't be impossible for
- 5:39me to figure out. It's like with Movies Now
- 5:41especially, you know, you can't even go to the DVD rack and
- 5:43find, oh, here's Transformers, I'm going to throw that in the
- 5:46player. No, you got to figure out, oh,
- 5:48well, last month it was on this platform, Now it's over here,
- 5:50but you have to pay for this one.
- 5:52It's the same thing with this. I I totally get where you're
- 5:55coming from and you'd think that there'd be some rhyme or reason
- 5:57to it in some regard, but it seems like there never is.
- 6:00And it's a total battle just to watch the teams play it out.
- 6:03Time and time time again. So were you involved last night
- 6:06at the Timberwolves game? Were you watching late?
- 6:08I actually was. Not last night specifically, but
- 6:10of course I had to watch it back this morning and what an ending.
- 6:13Man, if the Edwards after the game, maybe my favorite moment
- 6:17of the post game was him saying that he basically sucked and
- 6:22that's what you get with Anthony Edwards.
- 6:23I mean that guy is transparent that there's no no guessing what
- 6:27exactly is his thought process in the way that he's thinking
- 6:30about things. He is absolutely that way every
- 6:32single time he is going to get his thoughts out there and at
- 6:35the turnover late couple of bad decisions wondering a couple
- 6:39times opportunity to get on the ball and they didn't what was
- 6:42going on. I understand he's coming off a
- 6:43knee injury and his over under in the game was 17 1/2 points,
- 6:46which felt incredibly low and he just got over that as he
- 6:49finished with 18 or maybe a 16 1/2.
- 6:51He finished with 17 regardless, he got it by 1/2 point because I
- 6:54had that in the same game parlay last night.
- 6:55That's the only reason that I know that.
- 6:57But you know, with Anthony Edwards, you see doesn't have
- 7:01the same left and he talked about that also after the game
- 7:03is he's going to have to play the game differently because for
- 7:06years and years and years now it's almost every single time he
- 7:09goes out there, he's just going out athletic you.
- 7:11He is quicker, he is stronger, he is a higher jumper.
- 7:15He is all the things, almost every single guy that is
- 7:18guarding him, He's probably not going to be able to do that this
- 7:20series. He's probably not going to be
- 7:21able to do that if this playoff continues.
- 7:23Coming off that knee injury, didn't have the same kind of
- 7:26lift yet in the fourth quarter. They absolutely weren't able to
- 7:30take control. And then he got the Wimby
- 7:32factor, who makes the headlines, 12 block shots.
- 7:36But in the fourth quarter, I think he only had one.
- 7:40In the fourth quarter, he had 10.
- 7:41I know in the third quarter, at some point, he the Timberwolves
- 7:44did something great. And the reason that Finch is one
- 7:46of the best coaches out there, it's something incredibly small.
- 7:49But all right, it's basketball. You watch a lot of basketball,
- 7:53you know, all it is anymore is just setting screens, right?
- 7:56Ball screen, boom, ball screen. And what they did and what they
- 7:59changed defensively is instead of hedging hard on the ball
- 8:04handler going after that, they said, no, we're not going to let
- 8:07you roll anymore. We're not going to allow that to
- 8:09happen. And that gave Wendy then an
- 8:11opportunity to not get back and block every shot like he had.
- 8:14Suddenly he was just getting pulled by that ball Screener and
- 8:18they're just blocking away. The ball screen wasn't actually
- 8:20for the person with the ball. It is that small little thing
- 8:23that is so nuanced, so incredible, but it worked out
- 8:26incredibly well taking what he was doing defensively on that
- 8:29end and not negating him because he's still there.
- 8:31He's still making impacts. And the other component, he
- 8:34doesn't make a three pointer. And we saw it last series
- 8:36against Joker in Denver. Guys in the post, they're just
- 8:41sick of going up against Gobert. You could RIP the guy all you
- 8:44want. He is an awful, awful offensive
- 8:46player. And he, I think he missed his
- 8:48first fourth free throws last night before they finally got
- 8:50one to roll in. But that's what you get, that
- 8:52defensive component where guys as talented as Wembe and Joker,
- 8:56two of the most talented guys in the league and certainly most
- 8:58talented big guys, they don't want to battle in the post
- 9:00against Rudy Gobert because he is just that good.
- 9:03Yeah, both Rudy Gobert and Jaden Mcdaniel's I thought played
- 9:06really well defensively. I think Anthony Edwards coming
- 9:09back was huge for the Timberwolves in this series.
- 9:12I don't know, you know, if they if they win this game without
- 9:15him or if, you know, if they lose that game where the series
- 9:18momentum goes. So I do think him coming back
- 9:20was huge. But you could tell he wasn't
- 9:22completely at full full throttle.
- 9:25Did end up -2 on the night. And you were right, 18 points,
- 9:28three and three rebounds, assists.
- 9:30I thought personally if I were to give the game ball to
- 9:33anybody, it would probably be Rudy Gobert because of the
- 9:35defensive effort to stop the Spurs.
- 9:38I think this was more of a defensive game and credit to the
- 9:41defensive side of the ball than the offense.
- 9:42And to your point about the the adjustments in game, that's just
- 9:45a coaching master class. I mean, that's just putting your
- 9:47guys in a spot to succeed. And I like, I like Minnesota's
- 9:52odds. If they can keep that up.
- 9:53We'll see what Anthony Edwards can offer the rest of the way,
- 9:56but so far so good. One thing that has been milling
- 10:00around in my mind as soon as it went final last night and the T
- 10:02Wolves almost blowing it and I'm freaking out yelling at my TV is
- 10:07you stole what you went for, right?
- 10:08Get a split, go up, go down to San Antonio, get a split.
- 10:11At minimum your field at least OK about your chances.
- 10:14Well, he took game one. And with that knee injury, not
- 10:17knowing the severity, not knowing physically if some extra
- 10:20rest would do Anthony Edwards, well, you don't Pike Game 2.
- 10:24Because you throw it in. You just you say we're going to
- 10:28go out there, we're going to try it again, We're going to go a
- 10:30lot more with Terence Shannon who was incredible for long
- 10:32stretches. Again, he is so fast with the
- 10:33ball. We're going to go that
- 10:35direction. We're going to get a little bit
- 10:37more rest for Ant, but get blown out, so be it.
- 10:39But we got the split and we'll go to Minnesota tied up at 1:00.
- 10:42One again, not knowing the physicals that part of it.
- 10:45Does that make sense? Or if he's good enough to play
- 10:48in game one, he's just good enough to go now going forward.
- 10:51You know, I actually don't necessarily hate that take.
- 10:53As soon as you started that I was like, no, we got to go up
- 10:56two O and see if we can come home and and then you know how
- 10:59rowdy Minnesota is going to be this the odds of a sweep, but
- 11:02you never know. But as you started to walk me
- 11:04through that, I I don't necessarily hate it.
- 11:07You know, give him a chance to get closer back to that full
- 11:11Anthony Edwards that we're used to, that game changer and, and
- 11:15honestly, momentum swinger. I, I don't know if you go into
- 11:19this game, you know, you're right, you don't punt it.
- 11:23But I think you could as a coach come in and say, all right, we
- 11:25are going to put maybe a, a heavier minute limiter, right,
- 11:29'cause he played 25 here in this first game.
- 11:31Maybe you set it down to can you go to 10, you know, and just
- 11:35play a couple minutes here and there.
- 11:37Keep him warm, keep him in the feel of the game.
- 11:39But it's not necessarily going to win or lose you the game and
- 11:42you're OK with either outcome. And then you're coming back.
- 11:45Comb is is kind of my thought process too.
- 11:47So if you lose this one, you're not completely throwing away
- 11:50momentum going on the road. You get to come back home and
- 11:53have that crowd at your back. I, you know, maybe we do need to
- 11:57throw you in as head coach for this upcoming game.
- 11:59Yes, maybe it makes sense. We'll see how that front that's
- 12:03coming up Game 2 right around the corner Wednesday night.
- 12:05They'll be back at it tomorrow evening.
- 12:07Spurs a 9 1/2 point favorite in that one.
- 12:09Nick Sixers. I mean, what can you say?
- 12:11It's another one of these NBA blowouts.
- 12:13It just they're unwatchable. When it gets to that level, they
- 12:16become. Unwatchable.
- 12:17And to your point earlier about do I watch a lot of the NBA,
- 12:19that's the problem. It has gotten ridiculous.
- 12:21The tanking is out of hand. I, I, I don't have the stats in
- 12:25front of me, but the lower, whatever it is below the mark
- 12:28versus the upper upper teams is ridiculous.
- 12:30And yeah, you assume the playoffs are going to be better,
- 12:32but I don't. I don't need to go on off a
- 12:34whole tangent here. It's just you made me think of
- 12:36it and it's unwatchable. You're exactly right.
- 12:38It is tough, tough, no doubt about it.
- 12:41And that was another one just all right.
- 12:43Well, I'm going to find the hockey.
- 12:44The hockey Last night I mentioned I got a Ducks wager,
- 12:46so that didn't come home. The environment, though, was
- 12:49really, really good. Once again in Vegas.
- 12:51That's a fun series, but obviously the one of local
- 12:53interest coming up. Game 2 tonight.
- 12:55You ever seen the 96 game in a playoff matchup?
- 12:57Because I certainly can't remember 1.
- 12:58It's been a long time to my memory.
- 13:01Sunday night, and I flip it on, it was right after, I think that
- 13:05while they cut it to three, one, they get a tie, they eventually
- 13:07take the lead and it just kept coming there.
- 13:10The question remains what you do?
- 13:12And we'll talk a little bit more with Dane Mizutani about this is
- 13:15is it time for a change in goal? Do you make the decision after?
- 13:18Walstad really struggled in this one, and it wasn't just giving
- 13:21up the nine goals. Sometimes not the nine part, but
- 13:24you just see, hey, guys, made place.
- 13:27It's going to happen. There were some iffy ones that
- 13:31probably shouldn't have been goals.
- 13:33And that's the part of it because Minnesota, they got
- 13:36another guy and Augusta since had successes in the past,
- 13:39certainly. So that will be a component.
- 13:41We'll talk about that a little bit later on.
- 13:42But here in segment #1 I do want to talk a little bit about your
- 13:46main beat. And of course, that's the
- 13:47Cyclones with Lockdown Cyclones, your daily Iowa State Cyclone
- 13:51podcast. I have the Hawkeye side.
- 13:54So the news from yesterday that comes out.
- 13:56We had Bill Seals on the show yesterday talking a little bit
- 13:59about it. It's so crazy to me because I
- 14:03look at it from the media perspective, but then you get
- 14:06the fan perspective. From time to time Jane Jackson
- 14:09leaves the program and there are some fans out there that are
- 14:12trying to blame Bill Seals because he quoted what was said
- 14:19by the coach. By Jimmy Rogers.
- 14:21I don't get it from a fan perspective, and maybe that's
- 14:24the part that I'm so far removed from just being a fan.
- 14:28I've been doing this now for 25 years.
- 14:29I'm getting old, and because of that, I'm still a fan.
- 14:33Anybody that's listened to my show throughout the year
- 14:35certainly knows that I still wear my fandom.
- 14:37I'm not going to sway away from that.
- 14:39I'm not going to say that I'm a neutral arbiter of all things.
- 14:42That's not what I am. I still am a fan, but I also do
- 14:45still have that part. What am I missing?
- 14:47Am I missing anything here or is this just fans being fanatical?
- 14:51I Yeah. So you brought up earlier like
- 14:53this is the time of year where things get kind of boring.
- 14:55This came out of nowhere. I did not.
- 14:57See this kind of content we needed.
- 14:58I know, I know. I was like, may the fourth be
- 15:01with you. I'm getting ready for my Star
- 15:03Wars at BAM. Running back leaves a program.
- 15:05I'm like, OK, is this legit? Is this even real?
- 15:08Because I do remember I was at the spring game and he turned a
- 15:11lot of heads. It was unexpected and it was
- 15:14exciting and then the comments from Jimmy Rogers after the when
- 15:19when he had that media availability caught my attention
- 15:21as well. Certainly not the answer that I
- 15:24was expecting from Jimmy Rogers, but I do think that that's in
- 15:28its own way, which we can get to and it's, you know, in its own
- 15:30time, exciting from a head coach.
- 15:32But I, I was shocked to see the fans saying essentially what
- 15:36you're what you're alluding to. I my take on this and I'm OK,
- 15:40you know, this is my take on lockdown Cyclones was this is
- 15:43maybe a good thing if if this is, I'm not saying that he was
- 15:46kicked out or that he left. I have no idea what happened.
- 15:50But at the end of the day, he's not with the program.
- 15:53And if that was this direction that we were like, I'm OK with
- 15:58with him not being a cyclone, which obviously the production
- 16:01and and that thins out the running back room.
- 16:03I get it. But you got to think of the
- 16:06first year of Jimmy Rogers, the this is the new era of cyclone
- 16:09football. I I don't know if I want that in
- 16:13the locker room. You don't want any people that
- 16:16could upset the apple cart, right?
- 16:18You don't want a bad egg. You don't want whatever phrasing
- 16:21that you want to use. And if it's somebody that either
- 16:25A saw the story from Bill Seals and got that upset about it, is
- 16:29that the kind of guy you want in the locker room that's going to
- 16:31get upset about an article or even a quote from a coach
- 16:35motivating factor? Or there could be something even
- 16:38more at play here where they just didn't think that this was
- 16:40the right fit for their program. One question I don't know the
- 16:43answer to it, and this is something that also bounced into
- 16:45my mind is now we don't have the spring portal, which is terrible
- 16:48for us in the content business because the Spring portal is
- 16:51great, but without it is what does that mean for Jackson?
- 16:56See, that was my my first thought was what does this mean
- 16:59for him? And, and obviously we hope for
- 17:01the best and, and wish him a long and lucrative career, but
- 17:04I, I imagine he finishes this semester out as a, an Iowa State
- 17:10student and then ends up, I don't know, he probably doesn't
- 17:13get to play. Because we have the ghost
- 17:15transfer rule. Yes, that's that was where my
- 17:18thoughts. Yeah, and if you're new to this
- 17:20new phrasing, the ghost transfer rule, it dates back to the Lucas
- 17:24kid who left Wisconsin to go to Miami, didn't enter the portal.
- 17:28Miami was likely tampering and you got into that.
- 17:33And so we'll just don't even go to the portal.
- 17:35Just don't don't even worry about that.
- 17:36If you want to leave a school, do it this direction.
- 17:38And the NCAA is put the kibosh on that.
- 17:40You can no longer have what is considered a ghost transfer
- 17:43where you don't actually enter the portal.
- 17:45You just show up at another campus.
- 17:46And no, by the way, oh, yes, you're getting NIL money and
- 17:49you're getting everything else and you're getting R.E.M. share
- 17:51and everything that goes along with it.
- 17:53They are trying to combat that and also keep it where there's
- 17:56just one portal window because if they didn't have this ghost
- 17:59rule in place, we would see hundreds of kids right now that
- 18:03would be doing just that. Semester finishes up.
- 18:06I'm leaving this university. I'm going to show up here.
- 18:10Yes. And tampering's happening all
- 18:12over the place. This is a way to combat that.
- 18:15But for a guy like this, for Jaden Jackson now to suddenly
- 18:19not have a home, does he have an opportunity?
- 18:22And if it's phrased in a way where he was kicked off the
- 18:26team, is that different as opposed to a guy that left on
- 18:29his own accord? I don't know the answer to that,
- 18:32but I think it is something because this can't be the only
- 18:34situation in the country, right? You would think not.
- 18:37And it's it's it's a very puzzling situation, especially
- 18:40if we're looking into what the five and five could look like
- 18:43because didn't play last year, now won't in theory play this
- 18:48year. So now he's got three years if
- 18:50the five and five goes through. I just there's a lot of question
- 18:54marks there. It's the same thing with like
- 18:56were you fired, let go or did you leave from a job?
- 18:59Same kind of thing applies here. Does does that distinction
- 19:02matter to the NCAA? Is he is he now like a free
- 19:06agent or is he still tied to Iowa State?
- 19:10Those are the questions that I have.
- 19:12I I would love to see him play just because of how electric he
- 19:14was for Iowa State. Even if he, you know, pans out
- 19:17somewhere else, I'd love to see it.
- 19:18But I do think it'll be very telling of of what the sports
- 19:21landscape in college football will look like moving forward.
- 19:24And it's so funny because even going into the open practice at
- 19:28Iowa State, we heard a lot that I think it was one, maybe the
- 19:31running backs coach or offense coordinator and mentioned that
- 19:34they were little bit concerned about the depth of running back,
- 19:36that they just didn't have a very deep room.
- 19:39You had all of that was banged up and didn't go on last
- 19:42Saturday. So you had that component to it.
- 19:44We know Flora coming off an injury himself, Petaway coming
- 19:47in his way in. You're excited about the special
- 19:49teams, the return game of Flora and Petaway.
- 19:51That's going to be excellent. You have a feeling with both of
- 19:53those guys, but a running back and now you take another guy out
- 19:56of that room and then you go the other direction too.
- 19:59For Iowa State, guys are still in the portal.
- 20:02There are still guys that are in there coupled with guys that are
- 20:06at the D2 level. JUCO, what else is out there?
- 20:09You have to think at minimum, Iowa State's got to be shopping
- 20:12at this point in time and seeing even if it's a depth piece, even
- 20:15if it's a guy that is probably going to be, you know, 5th on
- 20:17the depth chart, whatever it is, we just need bodies and we've
- 20:20seen it happen so many times in the past.
- 20:22We're at a specific. Position group and running back,
- 20:26definitely one of them that injuries start to pile up and
- 20:28suddenly what are you going to do?
- 20:29I mean, are you going to say, you know what I'm going to go
- 20:32over be I guess you're going to be a running back for us today.
- 20:34You know, there's not a whole lot that you can do.
- 20:36There's no free agency once the season starts that you can get
- 20:39into. So they got to be mined in that
- 20:41and see if there's anything else out there.
- 20:42Yeah, especially when you consider what John Johnson, the
- 20:44running back coach for IOSC, had said.
- 20:47They're not afraid to go, you know, 3-4 deep.
- 20:49Well, I think IOC has what, 4? Maybe 5 if I don't have the list
- 20:54in front of me, but you get my point.
- 20:55We're really kind of stretching it thin here.
- 20:57And so yeah, there is no spring portal where players can enter,
- 21:01but there are players that are available.
- 21:03And so I would have to think that, you know, there,
- 21:07especially with the state of the program and it being so like
- 21:10they just, they just implemented a new program or a new system to
- 21:14basically like 90 players. It's like they can't do it for
- 21:18one more. I think that's probably a smart
- 21:19play. So I'm looking at the roster as
- 21:22it currently is on cyclones.com. So they got Petaway, Allah,
- 21:27Flora River Peppers, but he's coming off a pretty significant
- 21:30injury himself. Easton Miller forgot about him.
- 21:32Ankeny guy called plenty of his games at Centennial back in the
- 21:35day. So those are the guys that they
- 21:37currently have listed there. But Allah coming off an injury
- 21:40Peppers off an injury flora. Question marks remain on that
- 21:45front. But no longer listed Jackson no
- 21:47longer already on the roster. They quick that they changed
- 21:49that pretty quickly. That was quick.
- 21:50I went to check today to see like what were his accolades?
- 21:52Gone, just gone. Can't fight him, can't fight
- 21:55him. Coming back on the other side.
- 21:56We're going to go north of the border up to Minnesota.
- 21:59We got a lot going on up there. We're going to talk about game
- 22:02two of the playoff series tonight with the Wild and the
- 22:04Avalanche. Game 2 coming up tomorrow night
- 22:06with the Timberwolves after stealing game one against the
- 22:09Spurs. Plus the Vikings talk and maybe
- 22:12a Twins question as well. Dame Mizutati, he's going to
- 22:14join us coming up here on the other side.
- 22:16Got Nick hanging out with me today.
- 22:18It's Miller and Condon on the Iowa Sports Radio network.
- 22:3812/28 on a Tuesday. It's Miller and Condon on the
- 22:40Iowa Sports Radio Network. You hear Prince means we're
- 22:44going north. Nice, Minnesota, out of my great
- 22:48regrets not seeing Prince in person before his unfortunate
- 22:51passing and the best artist in Minnesota history.
- 22:56Dane Mazatani joins us now. He has been in Minneapolis for a
- 22:59very long time. He is a Hawaii native though.
- 23:02Do you agree, Prince? Number one, ahead of Dylan and
- 23:05whatever Minnesota you want to put up there Is that number one
- 23:07for you, Dane. Yeah, I think he probably has to
- 23:10be. I mean, he's a legend.
- 23:12And even as somebody who I can't claim Prince as, as one of his
- 23:17favorite artists, I appreciate what he did and just kind of
- 23:20what he means to this state. So yeah, I think he's one with a
- 23:22bullet. Yeah, I got a couple years on
- 23:24you guys. I mean, Prince was the guy, MJ
- 23:25was the guy. I got to see the new movie
- 23:27that's out in the theater. I got I got work to do making
- 23:29that. What happened, though?
- 23:30Some bad ratings over Rotten Tomatoes.
- 23:32Really. Yeah.
- 23:33Yeah. Makes me a little bit nervous
- 23:35because don't get to the movies very often.
- 23:37If you go for a crappy one, it kind of stinks.
- 23:39That aside, though, we got a lot to talk about Dane, so let's get
- 23:41into it. Got Nick Marvitz hanging out
- 23:43with me today. Let's jump into first your maybe
- 23:47and that is the Minnesota Vikings.
- 23:49We'll get into the wild. We'll talk wolves, maybe the
- 23:52Twins. We'll see if there's time.
- 23:53But coming off the draft, some head scratching decisions,
- 23:57perhaps a lot of people questioning going with banks
- 24:00instead of looking at the the tight end Thinnaman that comes
- 24:03in from Oregon. A lot of people, almost
- 24:05everybody felt like had kind of that projection there a take
- 24:09away a search for AGMA lot going on in Minnesota.
- 24:12How are the rumblings inside the outside the organization coming
- 24:15off the draft? Yeah.
- 24:17I mean, I think externally people look at the draft and,
- 24:21and because everybody now can look at mock drafts and create
- 24:26mock drafts on their own and on whatever mock draft simulator
- 24:29you, you choose to use. Like people look at the hall
- 24:32they, they, the Vikings walked away from in the 2026 NFL draft
- 24:36and say like, wow, they reached a lot.
- 24:39But my, my counterpoint would be one, we don't know anything
- 24:41about these guys. And anybody who claims to is
- 24:43just reading other guys who claim to know as well.
- 24:47There's like 2 draft analysts in in on the planet that I trust.
- 24:52And so I think that kind of gets into why people might be
- 24:56frustrated with this class. What I will say is Caleb Banks
- 24:58is somebody they're super high on.
- 25:00I mean, they didn't think he would get to 49.
- 25:03So if they felt like this is a guy that can fill a need on the
- 25:08defensive line, which is the need they've had, it feels like
- 25:12since I've been a teenager like this is they felt comfortable
- 25:16doing it at that price or at that cost of draft capital.
- 25:20And that logic kind of applies to each pick they made.
- 25:24People look at the Jake Gold they pick and they might say,
- 25:27well, I wanted Emmanuel McNeil Warren out of the safety, out of
- 25:31Toledo. And the truth is nobody knew who
- 25:33Emmanuel McNeil Warren or Jake Gold they was three months ago.
- 25:37But because of these mock draft simulators, it just shows like
- 25:40this is a guy I want. People get really attached to
- 25:43it. And it's a good thing because it
- 25:44makes the NFL draft fun to cover, fun to follow.
- 25:48But I think I would just say give this draft Class A chance,
- 25:53pump the brakes. We can't declare bust on all
- 25:56these guys. My, my biggest now area of of
- 26:00interest or intrigue is where do they go with the GM search
- 26:04Robertson, he wants the job. I think he'd be a fantastic
- 26:08hire. I think he brings the leadership
- 26:10skills required to, to excel at that position.
- 26:12But the, the, the Wolf's have made it clear they're going to
- 26:15do a really broad search. I don't expect it to be done
- 26:19anytime in the near future, maybe next week, maybe the week
- 26:22after, but they're they're cast in a wide net and as they should
- 26:26prefer the general manager position.
- 26:28Yeah, as far as a guy in this draft class that I'm
- 26:30particularly fond of and excited to watch play goes, Dom Orange
- 26:34going at round 382 is what I've got him at.
- 26:38What kind of play are you expecting from Dom?
- 26:40Obviously watching him play at Iowa State, he was one very good
- 26:44run stuff for super fun to watch.
- 26:46But for all the Cyclone fans out there looking to see him play,
- 26:49what kind of role do you expect him to take on?
- 26:51What kind of minutes do you think he'll get?
- 26:53Or is he going to be one of those guys that'll take a few
- 26:55years to potentially come up and play meaningful minutes?
- 26:58Yeah, big citrus. I forgot the Iowa State
- 27:02connection down there. He's going to play.
- 27:05He's going to play. He's a traditional nose tackle,
- 27:08middle of the line run stuffer that the Vikings just haven't
- 27:11frankly had. And you look at Caleb Banks and
- 27:14and you say, oh, doesn't he play nose?
- 27:17He's more of kind of a wide. And to understand that like the
- 27:21Vikings play a 3-4. So Dom Orange is going to play
- 27:24in the middle of the three up front.
- 27:26And Caleb Banks and this other guy, Jalen Redmond, who came on
- 27:29strong last year, are probably going to flank, you know, the
- 27:33true nose tackle that is, is big citrus.
- 27:37And and I think he's playing right away.
- 27:39I think it was kind of a way to hedge their bets with some
- 27:41medical question marks, you know, attached to Caleb Banks.
- 27:46But they're they're different players.
- 27:48And I think what would Dominic Orange is going to bring is that
- 27:51size, that ability to instantly impact the run game, to stop the
- 27:54run. And then the people do think
- 27:58they are the people I've talked to within the organization that
- 28:00there is some pass rush upside with him.
- 28:02So he has something you can't teach, which is just the sheer
- 28:05mass in the middle of the the defensive line.
- 28:10But he has some instincts that that allow, you know, could
- 28:13allow him to get after the passer too.
- 28:15So it was a heavy investment from the Vikings in their
- 28:18defensive line. And it's something that I think
- 28:20is imperative for success on the in the Brian Flores defense.
- 28:25So that warns like a lot of these guys that the Vikings
- 28:28drafted, you know, older, ready to contribute right away.
- 28:32I don't think he's going to require a lot of seasoning.
- 28:34I would be surprised if he's not playing pretty big, big minutes
- 28:37right away for the Vikings. You mentioned day in the search
- 28:40for the GM. How long do you think that this
- 28:43whole process is going to go? Yeah, I think just a couple,
- 28:46couple more weeks probably. Like, I don't think it's it's
- 28:49imminent because I think that they're casting a wide net.
- 28:52I think the Wilfs were telling the truth when they said they
- 28:55want to get through the 2026 NFL Draft before they start at
- 29:00search in any way, shape or form.
- 29:03So it was full steam ahead with the 2026 NFL Draft with Rob
- 29:08Burzynski leading the charge. And now that that is about a
- 29:11week and a half removed, they're in the process of interviewing.
- 29:17The thing is, they're not telling.
- 29:21They're bringing in. You've seen it.
- 29:22It's kind of a new age with social media, you see, with
- 29:25coaching, you see with without 30 visits, a team will tweet out
- 29:29we've hosted so and so on a visit or we have interviewed so
- 29:33and so. The Wolfs are committed to
- 29:35keeping all of that kind of under lock and key.
- 29:37So, you know, people, I've talked to you, you can start to
- 29:42glean some candidates, but they will not be public names for a
- 29:45while. But that doesn't mean the
- 29:46process is not ongoing. So I think we're in the middle
- 29:50of it now. I don't think we're near the end
- 29:51of it, but I think next week, maybe the week after, is
- 29:55probably a realistic timeline. Makes a whole lot of sense.
- 29:58Dame Mazatani joining us, Saint Paul Pioneer Press Dame, one
- 30:01more on the Viking front and that is coming up here.
- 30:05End of the month. We'll get to OTAs into June
- 30:08then, but you get the mandatory mini camp June 9th through 11th.
- 30:11Kyler Burry, I mean, have you already found a ton of different
- 30:14angles? I mean, how much are you going
- 30:15to write coming up this spring and into the summer about the
- 30:18new quarterback for the Vikings? And how many different angles
- 30:21can you take on this one? Because he's going to take this
- 30:24job, right? Yeah, I would be surprised if if
- 30:28Kylie Murray is not the start of Week 1.
- 30:30I I think the Vikings will handle the narratives of the
- 30:33conversations around the quarterback position like they
- 30:36have. They won't name a guy.
- 30:38They'll treat it like a true competition, but I think we all
- 30:42know Kyler Murray did not come here to be a backup.
- 30:44So unless he just looks awful in OTAs and training camp, that
- 30:49guy's going to start. I'm excited about it.
- 30:52He's a former number one overall pick.
- 30:53He has talent. He has a feeling that I think
- 30:58raises the Viking ceiling as a whole.
- 31:00So he's going to be a fun guy to write about.
- 31:02And I think I think we've talked about this before on the show.
- 31:07People are skeptical of him because he hasn't reached that
- 31:09ceiling. He hasn't actualized that
- 31:11potential in his body. But I think that we've kind of
- 31:15got it twisted now or people just think he's a bad
- 31:18quarterback and he's not. And I think it will take a
- 31:22little bit of time, maybe through training camp if you did
- 31:25the preseason. But when week one, week two,
- 31:28week three-week 4 roll around and Kyler Murray is throwing the
- 31:31ball to Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and whoever is that #3
- 31:35receiver TJ Hawkinson working in that backfield with with Aaron
- 31:39Jones for the Mason and Damon Claiborne.
- 31:41Like we're going to remember how good of a player Kyler Murray
- 31:44is. So I I'm excited to cover kind
- 31:47of the rise of, of him here. I'm also excited to Fast forward
- 31:51to September so we can remember just how good of a player the
- 31:54Vikings got and a fraction of the cost.
- 31:57Let's go over next to number one of the another one of the
- 32:00Minnesota teams. Let's go to the Wolves taking
- 32:02game one last night. We see Ant didn't look like Ant
- 32:05for quite a while that suddenly in the fourth quarter.
- 32:08He started at night a little bit.
- 32:10He was frustrated after the game about his play in the final
- 32:12couple of minutes of that one overall, but they got a steal,
- 32:15stole game one, get at minimum a split going into it, take away
- 32:19there and Rudy Gobert. He was playing D once again last
- 32:21night. Yeah, like the biggest take away
- 32:26I walked away from just watching that game last night is the
- 32:29Wolves should not be underdogs in this series.
- 32:32They are battle tested. They are experienced.
- 32:35They're everything that the San Antonio Spurs are not in terms
- 32:39of just been there, done that, understand just how to win in
- 32:44the playoffs. And our beat right at the Saint
- 32:47Paul Pioneer Press, Chase Frederick, I thought he made a
- 32:50really, really astute observation, really good
- 32:52comparison yesterday. Think back a few years, four or
- 32:56five years to the Timberwolves, Grizzlies series, when the
- 32:59Timberwolves were just blowing 20 point leads in the fourth
- 33:01quarter and look like chickens without their heads for for most
- 33:05of the the play down the stretch.
- 33:06That was a young team that did not know how to win in the
- 33:09playoffs. That's what the San Antonio
- 33:11Spurs looked like to me yesterday.
- 33:12A young team that doesn't quite understand how to win the
- 33:15playoffs yet, doesn't quite understand that.
- 33:17Yeah, the refs are going to swallow the whistles and they're
- 33:19going to allow very, very physical play on the defensive
- 33:22end. Everybody outside of Victor
- 33:25Wimbuyama and even him to a degree yesterday with just
- 33:28jacking 3 settling not being much of a factor offensively,
- 33:32game look too big for them sometimes.
- 33:34Doesn't mean that they're not going to come out and win Game 2
- 33:37and make this a series. But I walk away from yesterday
- 33:40thinking like this is a 5050 series.
- 33:43This is not the plus 1100 series that it was a week and a half
- 33:46ago and when people didn't think it was going to play.
- 33:49It's not even the plus 450 series that it was yesterday
- 33:52where the Wolves are vast underdogs to to win.
- 33:56I think right now this is as even as it gets and I would put
- 34:00my money on the on the big more experienced team to kind of walk
- 34:03away with this one. I agree.
- 34:04I actually like Minnesota in this series, especially after
- 34:07what I saw last night. That defensive effort was it was
- 34:10exactly what they needed. And so my question is really,
- 34:12can they keep this up? I, I hesitate to say that when
- 34:16Benyama will have that kind of a game every game for the rest of
- 34:20this series, I assume that they'll make some adjustments.
- 34:23Do you think Minnesota will be able to handle those?
- 34:25What do you expect? Are they going to, you know, go
- 34:272O to start and, and win every or sweep the road?
- 34:31Or are they going to end up down in a hole?
- 34:32Like I I know the experience is going to play a large role here,
- 34:35but I I hesitate to say that San Antonio is going to roll over.
- 34:40Yeah, I know. I think I think this will be a
- 34:42series. I would be surprised that they
- 34:44won Game 2, frankly. Like, I think we're probably
- 34:46coming back to Minnesota 11 and then you take your chances
- 34:50having stole homecourt advantage.
- 34:52But yeah, I do think the defensive effort that the Wolves
- 34:55put forth will will sustain because that's been their
- 34:57calling card throughout their their last two playoff runs.
- 35:00Like, yes, and has leveled up. He's ascended, Jada McDaniels
- 35:04has ascended. There's a lot of role players
- 35:07that are willing to do whatever it takes on that offensive side
- 35:12of the ball. But why the Wolves have been
- 35:14dangerous and why the Wolves have been a Western Conference
- 35:17finals team over the last two years is because of their
- 35:20defense. And then that's been their
- 35:21calling card. And I expect that to continue
- 35:23here. But when you you look at Victor
- 35:26women Yama, like if you're going to have his tough of an offense
- 35:29tonight, as he did yesterday, probably not.
- 35:32But the wolves wear on you over the course of the series.
- 35:36The way they play defense wears on you.
- 35:37It's like body blows in a fight. Again, in a heavyweight fight.
- 35:41Everybody loves the knockout, but the body blows are the are
- 35:44the thing that wear on a guy over the course of a fight, over
- 35:47the course of, if you will, a series.
- 35:50Now the wolves are going to wear on Victor Lembiyama.
- 35:52I don't think he's ever been defended like he's about to be
- 35:55defended for the next six games. If this thing goes 7 and or If
- 35:59however many games this thing goes, they're beating them up.
- 36:01They're going to play with him. They're going to be physical and
- 36:04then you look at the other guys that have to produce outside of
- 36:06Victor and Benyama, bunch of young guys who haven't proven
- 36:09they can shoot, haven't proven that they can make you pay from
- 36:13beyond the arc if you're going to double down low and Victor
- 36:16and Benyama is going to find you on the outside.
- 36:18So I think it's a good match up for the for the wolves.
- 36:21And I expect them to just continue to be physical with
- 36:23with the kid who obviously is very, very special.
- 36:28But I think he has some, he has some room to grow.
- 36:30Victor and beyond needs to understand like what it's like
- 36:32to play in the playoffs. And I think he's kind of
- 36:35learning trial by fire right now.
- 36:38Dane is just crazy to see a tough Minnesota team because
- 36:42there's been so many times in the past, regardless of sport,
- 36:44just didn't always feel like they had that toughness.
- 36:47Avoid this Timberwolves team. They definitely have that
- 36:49component over to hockey. We've seen some physicality,
- 36:52certainly from this Wild team. Your old beat in the Minnesota
- 36:55Wild 96, that's difficult to swallow, so I'll take up the
- 36:58easiest path possible. Is it time to make a change,
- 37:01Walsted? After the struggles in game one
- 37:03time to pull the plug and go with Gustafson.
- 37:07Yeah, where they're going to tonight.
- 37:10John Heinz announced that at morning skate that it will be
- 37:13going. Philip Gustafson tonight over
- 37:15against the wall said. I like that move.
- 37:17I do. I know it might, it might be.
- 37:21It's going to be polarizing either way.
- 37:23That's just how goaltender decisions are at this point in
- 37:27the playoffs. Here's my thing, Phil Gustafson
- 37:31is, yes, he did not have a good close the season.
- 37:34Yes, in some ways he he did that job to Jasper Walstad with just
- 37:37how shaky he looked down the stretch.
- 37:39But Phil Gustafson's not some plucky backup that that you're
- 37:43hoping can give you a spark. He was the starting goaltender
- 37:46for the Minnesota Wild for a lion's share of the season.
- 37:49He played more games than Jasper Walstad.
- 37:51So this is not some inexperienced guy that you're
- 37:53throwing into the fire and saying hope it works.
- 37:56This is your starting goaltender.
- 37:57This was your number one for most of the year, so that's the
- 38:00starting point for me. But when you look at kind of the
- 38:03psychology of making a goaltender change in the NHL
- 38:06playoffs, you're looking at it from kind of twofold how it's
- 38:11going to affect the guy you're pulling and how it's going to
- 38:12affect the guy you're throwing in there.
- 38:14Jasper Walsted gave up eight goals.
- 38:17Were they all his fault? No.
- 38:18Where most of them. Was he left hand hung out to
- 38:20try? Yes.
- 38:21But you give up eight goals, the most goals you've ever given up
- 38:24in your NHL career. Like it's OK to say, hey, we're
- 38:27going to take a take a breath here.
- 38:29We're going to give you a day, a game here.
- 38:32They said everything correctly after the game.
- 38:34The messaging was good. We still believe in Wally.
- 38:37We're still confident in him. But right now, this feels like a
- 38:41good time to pull that lever of goalie chains because there's
- 38:45not a ton of pressure on Phillip Gustafson.
- 38:47The other guy just allowed eight and you're going into Game 2.
- 38:50You'd love to win it. But if Gustafson gets shelled
- 38:53tonight, you go back to Wallstead for game three and
- 38:56you're back home. Maybe Jewel Eric's next back in
- 38:59the lineup and it feels kind of like a hard reset.
- 39:03Now flip that. Say you go with Wallstead
- 39:05tonight, he gets shoved again. Then you have a ton of pressure
- 39:08on Phillip Gustafson in game three to go out there and win a
- 39:11must win game. So I think unless you're like
- 39:15the Tampa Bay Lightning, Andre Vasileski, and there's no
- 39:18question asked, he's going to start every game of the of a
- 39:21playoff run. If you have two goalies and you
- 39:23have to juggle it, to me it made sense to make the decision that
- 39:27they've landed on. Now we'll see if it works out.
- 39:29If Gustafson gets celled, everyone will say giant hot John
- 39:32Hines has no idea what he's doing.
- 39:34And then they'll go back to Allstead for game three and the
- 39:37discussion will get pretty negative pretty quickly.
- 39:40But I think this decision makes sense for the Wild.
- 39:44We'll see if they're right. You know, you won me over there,
- 39:46Dane. I, I was not on your side when
- 39:48you when you said that you thought that was the right move.
- 39:50I wanted them to go with Walstead.
- 39:52But you made a lot of really solid points.
- 39:54All of that still being true. What defensive changes can the
- 39:58Wild make? Because I, I personally think
- 40:01they just put Walstead in a terrible position.
- 40:03And if they do the same thing again, I don't know if I mean,
- 40:07obviously some goals were given up that that probably shouldn't
- 40:09have been, but I want to see some defensive changes, I think
- 40:12more so than a goalie change. Yeah.
- 40:14And then that's that's the thing too.
- 40:16Like if they would have went to wall said it would have been,
- 40:19look, we believe in this guy and it's on everybody in front of
- 40:22them to play better. But Even so that that
- 40:25conversation stands or that that point stands with with with Gus
- 40:28in the net, you cannot let the Colorado Avalanche, the neutral
- 40:32zone the way they did. You got to muck up the neutral
- 40:34zone. You have to make it not a rush
- 40:36game. You have to control possession.
- 40:37You have to protect the the the area of the ice in front of the
- 40:41net. The Wild just got into a running
- 40:43gun game. It was totally out of character.
- 40:46I think it is in some ways when you start popping in a lot of
- 40:50goals, the game just kind of deteriorates into an up and down
- 40:551980s style NHL hockey. They just need to get back to
- 40:59their structure and I think part of that throughout John Heinz
- 41:03tenure here has been being really hard in the neutral zone,
- 41:06not letting teams rush through, fly through that and take on
- 41:10speed in the offensive zone. We just saw that way too much
- 41:12the other night in that speed. Frankly, I think in the series
- 41:16like this, when you go from Dallas, who obviously is a very
- 41:19good team but doesn't play with quite the speed that the
- 41:21Avalanche do, like that speed can shock you.
- 41:24And then that's the adjustment I think just kind of has to happen
- 41:28upfront right away, harder in the neutral zone, less
- 41:31opportunities to fly into the offensive zone.
- 41:34And I think from there just transition into just getting
- 41:37more disciplined with with certain plays.
- 41:41They were loose with the puck the other night.
- 41:43A lot of just little things that they can change that I think
- 41:47will will pay dividends. But yeah, it wasn't just a
- 41:50goaltender thing the other night.
- 41:52In fact, I think it was more his teammates in front of him than
- 41:55Jasper Walstad. But point is, like, they all
- 41:58need to be better, regardless of who's in the grease.
- 42:01There he is. Dane Mizutani, St.
- 42:03Paul Pioneer Press. Dane, out of time for today.
- 42:06Twins. They suck.
- 42:07All right, there it is. We, we knocked that one out of
- 42:09the park. And Joe Ryan's now injured.
- 42:11Great. We'll talk to you again soon.
- 42:12Dane. Appreciate your time as always.
- 42:15Yeah, anytime guys love doing it.
- 42:16Dave is a toddy talk in Minnesota sports with us here on
- 42:19Miller and Condon. Got Nick hanging out with us
- 42:21today. Coming back on the other side,
- 42:23we're going to learn a little bit more about Nick.
- 42:25We continue here in a moment. It's Miller and Condon on the
- 42:27Iowa Sports Radio Network. Wrapping up our number one, it's
- 42:39Miller and Condon on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 42:42Nick Marvitz hanging out with me here today and tomorrow as Ken
- 42:45is off for a couple of days. So I'm playing a little PJ.
- 42:50I'm coming back. I.
- 42:51Love it. You are much younger than me, so
- 42:55what's your music? What what do you like to listen
- 42:57to? Because we have a pretty big
- 42:59swath here between the 70s for Ken and me in the 90s, not a
- 43:04whole lot of 80s stuff that we play very often and very, very
- 43:08little anything basically from, I don't know, 1995 on.
- 43:12So that is kind of the end day for what kind of music are you?
- 43:16As you're pumping your iron and doing your thing, what are you
- 43:18listening to? Yeah, when I'm pumping iron,
- 43:19it's got to be 80's rock, 80's rock, the.
- 43:22I like to call that butt rock. Motley, Mötley Crüe, Guns and
- 43:26Roses, ACDC, Yep, Yep. Those kind of.
- 43:30That's butt rock to me and my kids in fact have started to get
- 43:35into that genre here recently. My daughter's walk up song and
- 43:38awful parenting by me. Def Leppard, Pour some sugar on
- 43:42me. Nice.
- 43:44Now, you know the extra connotation with that, that is
- 43:48something that she'll probably be seeing sitting in a
- 43:50psychiatrist's chair as in her 20s and saying, how did my dad
- 43:53allow this? But she loves the song.
- 43:54So there, that's her walk up song now for softball.
- 43:58So you like the 80's rock. So that's when you're pumping,
- 44:00when you're just hanging out, having a drink, hanging out on
- 44:03the deck, what, what's the mood that you're looking for?
- 44:06See, I'm all over the place. I can go like 2020 tens pop, but
- 44:10recently I just it's crazy you asked this because I just got a
- 44:14set of guitars and so I've been kind of listening to like
- 44:18country, but I I couldn't put it down to an era just kind of all
- 44:22over the place. So I've been vibing with some
- 44:24chill country that you can like finger pick along to.
- 44:27Otherwise, I'm OK with just rock all the time.
- 44:30So it really isn't that deep for me.
- 44:33All right, so that's kind of the music part.
- 44:35Now remind us again about the teams.
- 44:37We know the Cyclones part. Obviously that's an easy one.
- 44:40Professional sports, you got that weird Northeast connection
- 44:42and we got that with Lucas and these Northeast teams.
- 44:44What's going on here? So who are who are your
- 44:46professional teams? Yeah, professionally, definitely
- 44:49the Patriots. That's kind of like my number
- 44:50one bread and butter. From there, I'm a little bit
- 44:53more bandwagon E like we talked about with the NBA.
- 44:57Like I don't really follow an NBA team because the regular
- 45:00season is so hard to watch. I just love watching to the
- 45:02postseason when it comes to the NHL.
- 45:05I'm a big Kraken guy, got on them when they when they joined.
- 45:08Yeah. It's like I don't want to pick a
- 45:10team that already exists, so I want them.
- 45:12I'm kind of all over the place, all over the.
- 45:14Place. Yeah, it's fun though.
- 45:16Yes, you never. Pick and.
- 45:18Choose Ordered into a market. LeBron guy.
- 45:22In recent years I've definitely I've I've.
- 45:24Grown to appreciate it, Yes. Yes, same with that.
- 45:28All right, We got an hour in the books, one more to go.
- 45:30We got a lot going up here and we're going to continue the
- 45:33conversation, including the expansion, not just to college
- 45:36basketball, football around the corner.
- 45:38That's next.
