- 0:00[SPEAKER_02]: Rest is never supposed to be a reward.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_02]: I see way too many women using a rest or a day off or a spot is a reward for hard work.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_02]: Nope, you actually are always worthy of rest, always all the time no matter what.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the Beat till you see it podcast, where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm also Logan, Ply's instructor, and fit this business coach.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: I've trained thousands of people around the world, and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: My friends, action brings clarity.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: and it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: Each week my guess will bring bold, executable, intrinsic, and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it till you see it.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_02]: Hello, be it.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe how are you?
- 0:56[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back to the VAT to see it podcast, of course.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_02]: Now I have vocal fry.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_02]: I was talking just fine a moment ago, but here we are, and that's because we are not perfect around here.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's the first time listening to us.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for being here this week.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to talk about slowing down and actually how that can speed things up.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm just really excited for us to dive into this topic.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_02]: We are doing these topics because you ask for them.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_02]: So be at pod.com slash questions.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_02]: Where you send your wins in for us to chat about and celebrate you on Fridays.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_02]: But your topics, your guests, requests, things like that.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_02]: Those are all things that I look at and determine for who we invite on the pod.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_02]: And what these little series are for.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: And I love hearing how they help you.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_02]: I also just want to say I really appreciate when you share our podcast.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: It means the world to me.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_02]: It really, really does brings my day every time I hear about it, so just know that I appreciate even just the text in this to a friend who needs to hear it.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: We know we can't be a tell we see it along.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: This doesn't have works.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_02]: So we have two episodes on this topic about sewing down.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_02]: And
- 1:51[SPEAKER_02]: The overall message, the two-long didn't listen is that how it actually speeds things up.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_02]: And I am someone who wants to move a mile a minute.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_02]: So this is a definitely a beat till you see it for me.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's a bit of constantly practicing.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_02]: I'm constantly having to remind it.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_02]: I'm recording this in June.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_02]: You're hearing it in August.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: And I was telling the team an hour ago.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: We have to move on that because the launch date for that is October 1st.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_02]: Leslie, it is the end of June.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_02]: There is plenty of time.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: Is there, though?
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: But really.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_02]: Really, so if you have ever spent an entire day going from one task to the other, just adulthood, you feel like a hummingbird, but then you get to 5pm and you look at your do list and you actually did everything, but what you wanted to do?
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you don't only end the day exhausted in the day stressed out because you did all the stuff that you didn't move the meal, it'll fall forward.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_02]: And this is something that I see happen when I coach a lot of apply studios because people love to make a list, my apply studio owners love to make a list.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: I see this a lot when I coach, apply studio owners and teachers, they make a long list of things that they want to get done that they need to do, and then they do none of that, right?
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: And they've been like, well, I did all these things, or they make a laundry list of things, and they do all of them, but they actually didn't move the needle forward because none of those things actually moved the needle forward.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: That was just what Brad calls the whirlwind, just like doing the whirlwind, right?
- 3:05[SPEAKER_02]: And there is a massive difference between
- 3:07[SPEAKER_02]: getting stuff done, movement of things and momentum up things.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_02]: If you ever watch my cousin Benny, there's this scene in the episode where they get stuck in the mod and like they're spinning the wheels, right?
- 3:18[SPEAKER_02]: And so there is movement happening, but they're not getting enough momentum.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: They're not going anywhere, right?
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: They're stuck in the mod.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, hi, I see you.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: And we're just going to, version acknowledge all of us do that.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: And
- 3:32[SPEAKER_02]: If we get honest with ourselves, we're going to break down while, well, just doing movement, just rushing around, checking things off is actually negatively affecting the growth.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_02]: We want to have and how taking some breaks, some pauses slowing down shifts us into a gear that can actually create to true progress, right?
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: I remember years and years ago I was with this girl and she had this whole speech of this power and the pause.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: There's power in the pause, right?
- 3:59[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes like just taking a break and getting a 30,000 foot view is like what exactly you need.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_02]: Otherwise you're just on the hamster wheel.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe there's another wheel to get on, right?
- 4:08[SPEAKER_02]: So I do understand, I want to just say I do understand this idea that if I slow down I fall behind because I was a runner.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_02]: So just so you know, professional runner for a long time and if you
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: Right, but that's not how life is life is not an actual race because you are on your own path.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_02]: You're doing your own thing.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_02]: And so I do think at some point in your life, there is there's time to rush and hustle and get as much information as you can.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_02]: And then there is a time in our life where we really do need to honor.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_02]: the information take time to get that, you know, especially as I am someone over 40, I've really discovered that if I just take a few pauses, if I don't rush from one task the next, if I, as I said in another series, I go for a walk around the block, I actually get some really great ideas.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_02]: I get to listen to my intuition.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_02]: I get to hear my inner voice.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: and it's really helpful, but also the complete opposite that is that in my brain, I am 43 years old, and I do want to be retired soon, and I feel like every day is a countdown to that, which is seriously crazy, because if I were to take out many days between now and when I want to retire, there's probably thousands.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: So in reality, I could slow down, but I do understand that feeling and that clock ticking.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: And I think together, be it paves, we need to reframe that.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_02]: We need to reframe that pauses as strategic decision making time and not a weakness, not a laziness, not a procrastination.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: Because there is a difference between a pause and a procrastination, right?
- 5:40[SPEAKER_02]: So I will say I definitely had to get hit over the head a few times with this idea.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: Really had to get hit over ahead a few times with this idea.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's a lesson that's just taken me a little longer than I liked to admit about slowing down.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so I don't know if a lot of you know this, but I started agency, profitableizes membership program at the same time that I kind of started OPC.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, I thought they're two different things I could do this, I have the time.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_02]: And the reality is it's marketing the two, sure.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_02]: But actually sustainably operating both was not happening.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: I was rushing to do it because I thought, oh my god, if I don't get this done, some other person's gonna take my idea and I need to get this going.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I also had, I will say I was loving traveling a lot and really wanting to get rid of some of my clients.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_02]: I needed both to take off so that I could let go of some of my regular teachings.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_02]: So I can enjoy traveling and just run these two businesses.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it's just gonna happen like three weeks and it didn't, of course, it didn't happen.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_02]: And in fact, it took a little bit longer.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: And there came to a point where I actually had two pause.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_02]: OPC is growth because proper plot is growth needed me more.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_02]: It was taking off and if I
- 6:58[SPEAKER_02]: Kept trying to split my time evenly.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_02]: I would have actually caused a place to not grow and to, in fact, not help the people and not have the impact I wanted to make.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_02]: And so I had to hit pause on something.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_02]: And it was really hard.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_02]: I had to chew between two babies.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: One of which I love gets really hard.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_02]: I actually love them both so much and one of them is more scalable than the other and one of them can impact more people than the other in different ways.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_02]: And but I had to do it.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_02]: And it was so hard because I will say,
- 7:27[SPEAKER_02]: those two years of have slow, purposely slowing down its growth, still is something we are dealing with today.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm really proud of what we do.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: We have a great membership with great community, but there was information I didn't get in those two years because I had a slow
- 7:56[SPEAKER_02]: out on the information you could be gathering so you can make better decisions for where you're going to go, right, or all you're going to do.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_02]: So that is why, you know, we have to actually understand when we go into that rush mode that feels like it's productive, we are not operating
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: right.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: And so it does feel like everything matters so much because we actually are grasping for control.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_02]: But when you are actually in charge of how fast you go and the pauses you're going to take and the scenic route you're going to look at or the thing you're going to take a deeper look at you are in the more control that way.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_02]: So it's important.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_02]: So as you talked about in pasts a little episode that your nervous system is very much part of this.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_02]: And if you are constantly rushing, it's not just a time management issue, it can actually be a survival response, and that survival response actually puts us in a that lizard brain where we actually don't see a lot of stuff as being helping hand right so our nervous system.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_02]: When you're constantly rushing your brain activates a low grade survival response, adrenaline makes you hyper focus on intermediate micro tasks.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_02]: You check your email.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_02]: You cross off prevail to do items while taking you away from seeing the big picture.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_02]: You cannot see it when you're in this space.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_02]: Another example of being in survival mode is
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: So, I'm sure you don't know this, but I'll tell you, if your head becomes more forward of your spine, right, like you'd start to be one of those people whose heads are forward, you see those people out there, parts, you start to see people coming at you as an attack and not a helping hand.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_02]: So, if you are in this rushing mode, if you're in the survival response in your nervous system, you are actually not seeing people going, hey, I'd love to do this with you or let's collaborate with this as help,
- 9:46[SPEAKER_02]: You could not receive it.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think that you actually see it as someone trying to get something from you, someone trying to slow you down, someone trying to take your thing.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: And so you actually perceive some helping hands as something that's going to be a negative or an attack on you.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: And so when we go through that, it just, it actually means we could probably probably definitely not going to go as fast as we want because it's hard to go anywhere fast alone, right?
- 10:12[SPEAKER_02]: Well, they say, if you want to go fast, you go alone.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_02]: If you want to go far, you go together.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: But the reality is, is like, I actually do think that you can go far and fast with help of others.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_02]: My Pilis loves when you rush a movement, you actually never fully get everything out of a movement, right?
- 10:31[SPEAKER_02]: To in order to rush it, something has to let go.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_02]: So either letting go the connections of muscles, or you're not fully extending your legs and footwork and fully close in the springs.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: You're kind of just operating in the middle.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: that is movement.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's like, I'm doing something, there might even be a burn, but you're actually not actually getting the full openness of the hips, the full reach through the feet, the full expression of the exercise where the benefits are actually, J would always say the plies happens the last two inches, right?
- 10:59[SPEAKER_02]: So you've got to finish.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to close you have to do a full expression.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_02]: So it's important that we're not just going so fast and using momentum because while it does feel like we are doing something, we are actually not getting the benefits
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: So, if you are my constant doer mover working all the time, you're likely unable to have clarity in what it is you're doing.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_02]: Because you can't find clarity in rush, right?
- 11:22[SPEAKER_02]: When you are speeding down the freeway, do you see all the signs?
- 11:26[SPEAKER_02]: No, they're a blur.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_02]: I remember we were doing something and Brad was who was going in faster than we should and he missed the exit and it cost us so many minutes.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_02]: because you missed the exit.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: If we were just been going at the speed that we were supposed to go in, we wouldn't have, right?
- 11:41[SPEAKER_02]: And so when you're rushing, you cannot have clarity.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_02]: You cannot catch the subtle things that are going, hey, look it over here, or what's this going on here?
- 11:48[SPEAKER_02]: Or maybe this is a turning to have to have.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_02]: So that mental noise just becomes this level 10 and that intuition when we talked about it in the past so the episode, the reason why we have a hard time here in our intuition is we're just moving too fast even here it.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: Right?
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: Because it's often like a whisper.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_02]: It's often there.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, hi, your intuition's not yelling at you.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_02]: Right?
- 12:08[SPEAKER_02]: Your intuition's when you're ready.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just right here to let you know that that's the right turn I want you to take.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, the other thing is if you're ending each day exhausted, if you are my listeners who are in my age group or older, ending your day exhausted does not make it easier for you to do the other things you want to do.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_02]: Does it make it easier for you to show up for yourself or your movement practice and make it easier for you to sleep well at night.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_02]: You're causing so much stress and cortisol and effects how you sleep, it affects how your body shaped, right?
- 12:36[SPEAKER_02]: What's going on with how you digest food?
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: All of that.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_02]: All because we're just rushing, rushing, rushing.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_02]: So we actually say yes.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_02]: two things that if we had just taken time to really fully think about we would have said no to I find there's two parts because of the ADHD that I have my brain goes three steps ahead so it's always a little faster and I cut people off and I make assumptions but it's not because I'm a rude asshole just because my brain's like I'm three steps ahead I know what you're going to say and other times my ADHD works in this like amazing place where I can just get into focus mode and I do a lot and a little bit of time and the problem with focus mode's an ADHD should never get to play when they're going to happen but
- 13:11[SPEAKER_02]: What I have found is if I am taking time to pause at the day to make sure I'm aware of what I'm supposed to be working on, I'm aware of where we're trying to grow and grow, it allows me to enjoy those focus modes when they happen and to at least have awareness when I'm actually in a rush state.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I'm trying to rush this right now.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying to push this
- 13:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so what we mean right because now that we're on the band like I agree we're okay.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_02]: So I just need to hit pause.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but it's first you have to have the courage to hit pause.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_02]: So first is having I think I need to hit pause is a great place to be right because that's me your first breakthrough to many breakthroughs.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: How many times have you had the best, most amazing ideas when you're in the shower?
- 14:01[SPEAKER_02]: Or you're on a walk, or you're checking out the moon, or sunrise, and also you have this thing that hits you.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_02]: Those are pauses, and notice they're not very long.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_02]: We don't have to pause for five hours.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's enough to be a full day off.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_02]: It could just be a pause.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_02]: It could just literally, the length of a breath, right?
- 14:19[SPEAKER_02]: Or it could be five minutes, or it can be in between Zoom calls you always plan for ten minutes to go from one.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_02]: called the next to make sure you've wrapped up your thoughts on the last call, like self-reflection is one of the best ways to retain information from the things that you did, all that brain fog the people talk about.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think a lot of it is actually just rushing so much.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think I do believe that there's brain fog.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_02]: But I think a lot of it is that we're not giving ourselves enough time between calls to reflect on what would just happen, what we have to do, and where we're going so that then the next call starts, we can actually be present enough to take it in.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_02]: So, rest is also never supposed to be a reward.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_02]: I see way too many women using a rest or a day off or a spot is reward for hard work.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_02]: Nope.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_02]: You actually are always worthy of rest, always all the time no matter what.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_02]: Because rest is not, oh, I'm going to go and hit this rest stop over here on a long drive.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, you're new those things.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's these little moments that
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: If you haven't read the big leap, I talk about all the time, but there's a whole chapter on time.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_02]: There's Einstein time and there's Newtonian time.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_02]: And if you listen to episode 400, I actually ask a Hendrix about this time chapter.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: And the reality is, when we are in our genius zone, we are in our flow state, we can bend time.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_02]: Really truly can.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_02]: But a lot of us are rushing around and putting ourselves in Newtonian time, and that is not.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_02]: You actually end up watching the time go by faster.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_02]: Evermills like minutes are long when you're holding a plank, but they're fast when you're just sitting on a phone call with your friends.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, right, because you don't want to be in the plank, but you're doing me a phone call with your friends.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_02]: Same thing.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_02]: You can actually make time be in your control, but you have to hit pause, right?
- 16:05[SPEAKER_02]: So what I'd love for you to do over the next couple days before our second episode comes out, which is hopefully some wonderful ways to help you.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_02]: hit pause.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_02]: I just want you to notice where you can put five-minute buffer gaps.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_02]: Can you change any of the calls or means you have to have an extra five minutes in between?
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: Can you text people?
- 16:27[SPEAKER_02]: Like, hey, we know we have a call tomorrow at 10.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_02]: I'll be there at 10.05.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_02]: And in those five minutes, you are not allowed to pick up your phone or check your emails or anything.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_02]: You get to go to the bathroom.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_02]: If you need a biobrake, but I would also love for you to still take a look at side.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe go outside.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe smell a plant in your house.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_02]: Something that is not on a screen.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_02]: And notice what feels good and how you feel before you enter your next call.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_02]: That's your homework, five minute gap buffers.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_02]: As many of them as you can between all of your meetings and see what you love to do in those five minutes.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_02]: Not where it feels like, oh my God, this is a longest five minutes I've to stay here and look at this wall.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_02]: No, not that.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_02]: Something that allows you to just, you almost look forward to it, right?
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: You almost are like, oh my God, I can't wait for this call to over because I get my puffer.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's what I want.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, let me know what questions you have.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_02]: I would love to hear your rushing stories and what maybe you realized in self-reflecting that you missed out on.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_02]: Here's the thing, the times of my life where I've rushed and missed out on some great opportunities because I just didn't hit pause long enough to think about it.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_02]: Those things were not for me, right?
- 17:33[SPEAKER_02]: What is for you when I pass you?
- 17:34[SPEAKER_02]: But in reflecting on what I could have done differently, it meant that I didn't miss future opportunities.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I got to take advantage of them and use them in the best way.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, thank you so much for listening to our podcast until next time.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_02]: Be it till you see it.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's all I got for this episode of The Beat Tell You See A Podcast.
