Transcript
- 0:01Good a. I'm Toddy oh Dan and we are fuck or forest under construction.
- 0:32F you see however you'd like to say it. Yeah, we're having
- 0:37a bit of a chat. We've got a massive gig coming up for Wallapalooza
- 0:42on November the fourth. It's going to be awesome and we're very excited.
- 0:47Yeah, I forgot thanks for joining us today. Thank you my pleasure as
- 0:52you say. Fuck are the final addition to Wallaplouza twenty twenty three, which
- 0:56will be held at the Wallaby Hotel of November the fourth. It's good to
- 0:59see the organizers finally get a bit of fuck into them for something like this.
- 1:03Yeah, what's it? You know, like everyone loves a bit of
- 1:06fuck, you know, penises, animals. You guys have never done Waller
- 1:15before, have you? We haven't. No, it's to be our first
- 1:19time doing will A Paloser. It's it's obviously I think it's its thirteenth year.
- 1:25Very excited for it. It's it's always been a pretty cool event from
- 1:29the you know, from the outside looking in, so it's really cool to
- 1:32be a part of it. And you're gonna be playing with bands like Cold
- 1:36twenty eight Days and butterfingers. So where are you guys going to fit in?
- 1:42Ill, We'll slip in somewhere, I'm sure. Well, I'm sure
- 1:46to be a hot, sweaty day, so plenty of loop and we'll just
- 1:48slide on in somewhere in between all of them, or you know, prime
- 1:53the audience. I suppose what do you reckon? I don't know, you
- 2:00don't know. Like for those unfamiliar with Borist Under Construction guys, given it
- 2:07was a bit of a history on the band, Oh a bit of history.
- 2:13Well, I've been doing this for what thirty years? Yeah? I
- 2:16think. Well we kicked off and about had our first sort of gems at
- 2:21about two thousand and nine, twenty ten. Our first show was twenty ten
- 2:25at podcast that year. Actually that was our first show. And what we
- 2:31did we put out an EP back then. We put it on an album
- 2:35ten years ago and we just released an EP which we actually recorded during COVID
- 2:44twenty twenty one with the fantastic Ian Redmond, and yeah, we just sort
- 2:51of took our time with it and it was all ready to roll, so
- 2:55we just put it out September one actually because it was band camp Friday out
- 3:01put on bank camp. See if people want to buy it, and they
- 3:06did. Yeah. Put aside from that, I mean, well, we
- 3:09played regular shows over the years, supported heaps of bands, played heaps of
- 3:15heaps of cities. Yeah. Yeah, Before it's it's probably important to point
- 3:24out that these are like a punk metal hybrid two piece MANKINI wearing Slaughterhouse.
- 3:31It's it's actually environmental new thrash, is it okay? Explain? Uh?
- 3:39Well, I don't know, like it's new thrash because we're like a new
- 3:46metal thrash version of new metal. Like yes, so it's a new thrash,
- 3:52not not like, you know, a new wave of thrash. We're
- 3:53not new wave. We're just new thrash. Yeah, we're definitely not new.
- 3:58We're actually old now yeah get thirteen fourteen year old history. But yeah,
- 4:04environmental new thrashes what we call it. Yeah I remember, so I
- 4:09don't suck up again. No, No, it's definitely got as definitely got
- 4:14a thrash and punk element. But we just yeah, you know, I
- 4:16know, we just sort of invented a genre because nothing really fit what we
- 4:19were doing, because we just made it up on the spot, really and
- 4:24yeah, so we just made up a genre to go with it, and
- 4:27I think that that's the most suiting description. Yeah, you know, I
- 4:32know. I guess we'll be reinvented the wheel a little bit, as you
- 4:38do for anyone, you know, anyone else. See these guys live.
- 4:44There's one feature about you that stands out above all others. And it's not
- 4:47Toddy's hair. Where where the hell did the main Enies balls? Oh,
- 4:55that's a funny one. So originally were used to playing clothes, and then
- 5:00we did this photo shoot for when we you know, when we put out
- 5:03our album. Dan just had this idea. It's like, oh, let's
- 5:06get DT's and we'll go to the beach and we'll get all these photo just
- 5:10do this full photo shoot for our album in these dts. So you might
- 5:14have seen some early shots where Dan's in DT's and I'm in a man Keni
- 5:16because I said, Man, I don't really want to buy dts, I'll
- 5:20never use them, but I do have a man keny just lying around that
- 5:25I actually got off Jesse Drachman, who is the singer of Dark Cell among
- 5:31other acts that he's been in over the years. He had the bar at
- 5:34DBD and he just had this bar at Mankeni the original, and so I
- 5:40was like, hell, wear that. And then it just kind of went
- 5:43from there, and then we did a we did a tour of Japan and
- 5:46Taiwan, and that was sort of like, oh, we'll start wearing these
- 5:49on stage, and it just sounded to be kind of good. Like it's
- 5:55a little bit exposing, I suppose, but at the same time, you
- 5:58finish your set, you take the mankini off, and you've got a dry
- 6:00set of clothes. No, we no sweaty clothes. We're fresh, you
- 6:05know. So yeah, there's something satisfying about the yelling. It counts with
- 6:11a mankini on, like you know, yeah, it's kind of I don't
- 6:17know, literally a little bit. Yeah, I guess some people get some
- 6:24people have been a bit uncomfortable, but then they sort of watch it and
- 6:29maybe hear them. It's like, ah, I saw you come out in
- 6:30mankinies, and I went outside for a ciggy, but then I heard the
- 6:33music and I had to come back in. And so well, look,
- 6:41if at least two people don't get offended and leave the room, we're probably
- 6:43not doing a job. Right, That's exactly right. We just spoke about
- 6:48this before, but you've also recently released your EP Everything, So tell us
- 6:54a bit about that from a musical point of view and what you're going for
- 6:57with it Everything. Sorry, that's the one. What were we going for?
- 7:02I don't know. We generally just write a bunch of music and then
- 7:09we sit down and write Dollar's lyrics to go over the top of it,
- 7:13and that's pretty much where where it came from. I guess, like,
- 7:17I don't know. We don't really sit down and go we're going to make
- 7:20a theme or a topic of a release or anything. It's just the collection
- 7:25of songs that represent whatever we thought funny at the time. Yeah, and
- 7:30those songs were sort of written over. They weren't sort of specifically written to
- 7:34release an EP. They were just we just write songs as we go,
- 7:39like we do this band. For us, we're not really like trying to
- 7:42change the world. They're trying to be you know, massive and famous and
- 7:46all that. We're just a couple of mates having a laugh. We write
- 7:50songs that we enjoy and it's great that other people enjoy it. But yeah,
- 7:57realistically, it's just two two powers having a laugh, throwing a MANKINI
- 8:03on every now and then and yeah, just writing music we like and it's
- 8:09pretty nice that other people like it too. So I thought you were going
- 8:13to give me a typics for your vague answer with that, so I'm I'm
- 8:16prepared. So I'm going to run through each song on the EP individually and
- 8:20tell us a bit more about it. So they will start with dick massage.
- 8:24All right, do you want to like it? We'll give you a
- 8:26little explanation all dick. Dick massage isn't It has its sounds. People would
- 8:31think, oh, dick massage, that's like a Robin tug, but actually
- 8:35if you listen to the words closely, it's someone going, oh, I'm
- 8:41a bit tight, I wouldn't mind her massage, maybe with a little Robin
- 8:43tug. And they go into this place and stripped down, get oiled up,
- 8:50and then there's tapping on their back and it's like, what's going on?
- 8:54It feels like a schlump, And actually it's a good guy with a
- 9:00massive cock massaging you with his dick. It's a new style of massage.
- 9:03I'm not sure where it originated, but it's a new style of massage and
- 9:09actually it's actually really good. So through the song. It's like, well,
- 9:11I don't know about this, and it's like, oh, that's actually
- 9:13really good. I'm gonna tell everyone how great it is. And that's basically
- 9:20that's basically it. Yeah, before being massaged with a dink, I can
- 9:24see people lighting up down the streets already. Well. Yeah, Unfortunately I
- 9:31wasn't blessed with a large enough, large enough peace to pursue that career.
- 9:39But hey, if anyone out there is into it, you could potentially your
- 9:45own business. Let's move on to snap off a log, which I believe
- 9:50has a very special guest. Well, yeah, there's we got Squizzy from
- 10:00Parrot on Guests Southmouth Vocals and uh he's the wind section. Yeah, but
- 10:13I guess you know, like that that song is pretty much about sitting on
- 10:18the ship up Like I know, I had the idea here when I was
- 10:20obviously having a ship, you know, and it's like, I don't know,
- 10:26I kind of believe that most people should be able to use, you
- 10:31know, six squares of toilet paper, you know, because deforestation is quite
- 10:37important issue. I kind of I feel and like, you know, you've
- 10:41got the people who scrunch, you got the people who fold. I'm an
- 10:43origami type of fault myself. And you know, like I don't if you're
- 10:48using more than ten sheets or whatever, like there's something wrong, like you're
- 10:52obviously eating the wrong shit, you know, and you're using too much paper,
- 10:56which you're using too much trees, and you're just adding to fucking the
- 11:01problems of deforestation and the rest of the stuff. So that song's pretty much
- 11:07snapping off a log like you're snapping on out your ass, you snap your
- 11:11cutting down a tree. It's all about logging, you know. And if
- 11:15you just have a healthy diet and you stick to your six to ten sheets,
- 11:18well then you're doing your bit for the fucking planet. Yeah, by
- 11:22a recycled toilet paper. Yeah, exactly. That's definitely a nice thing,
- 11:31all right. How about thrash quest, Oh yeah, well what that's a
- 11:39that's just really taking the piss out of the thrash heads, you know how
- 11:41you know, every thrash band has a song about thrash that's ours thrash bands,
- 11:50Like yeah, thrash, let's say I went and that was just basically
- 11:54it's sort of like, look, that's stupid, counting the battle jacket on
- 11:58not even that, Like, yeah, hey man, thrash is fucking cool.
- 12:03It is, Yeah, go on a bit of a quest with a
- 12:07bit of an adventure, a bit of an adventure adventure. That's it,
- 12:13thrash quest right. How about the penis? Ah, that was just a
- 12:20funny one. It was like we were just having a chat one day randomly,
- 12:24and I was telling Dan about how I'd gotten VIP for something like a
- 12:31VIP pass for a gig or a festival or something, and and just blurted
- 12:35out like, yeah, I'm loving my vio penis. Like, hey,
- 12:41that's pretty you call a song that? And then that's that was kind of
- 12:48just like I think it's I don't know about people who think they're you know,
- 12:54bigger or you know, more important than they really are. You know,
- 13:01they're a bit of a vi penis. Yeah, very important, you
- 13:05know, throwing their vio penis around, not massage the day they very well
- 13:13could. Very well cool. That was actually the That was actually the first
- 13:16song that we wrote that ended up on that EP. So yeah, and
- 13:20they've all been sort of staggered. Actually didn't that song like get cut from
- 13:24the album because we didn't quite finish it or something like that. Oh,
- 13:28I don't think it's that old. I don't think it's that old. Maybe
- 13:35it's been a while all right now you can't Ah, that's that's just basically
- 13:43that's ah, that's just kind of like having a laugh at all the things
- 13:48you can't do anymore. But we just made up dumb ship like you know,
- 13:52you know, because you can't have a ship in the public street.
- 13:56You know, you can't have a salad if you only eat meat. I
- 14:00don't know. And then it's you can't do this, you can't say that.
- 14:03It was supposed to be about like the cancel culture and you know,
- 14:07like people you know telling you you know, you can't say that anymore.
- 14:11You can't do this, and you can't do that. You'll make me cross.
- 14:13Yeah. Yeah, we just had to laugh because it was like,
- 14:16you know, because everything was like, don't make me cross. So it's
- 14:22about all the Karens really just you know, but it just turned into something
- 14:26like you know, whatever the fun we wanted to Yeah, yeah, it's
- 14:31it's kind of silly, like all our songs, it's kind of Yeah,
- 14:35it was basically a take on all the things you can't do, even though
- 14:39really everything at least s you probably can. Yeah, you can't finishes off
- 14:50with salad dodger. That's the one. Well that's pretty self explanatory, there's
- 14:56that's the first line is I'll just have the meat. Yeah, I don't
- 15:03eat salad dodging a salad. Those people who think that they're fucking you know,
- 15:07healthy diets about eating meat and you know, and I guess also,
- 15:13like fruit, vegetables have feelings too. You know, you can get us,
- 15:16get your knife. You have to get your knife and fucking cut open
- 15:18a piece of salad the same as a piece of meat. Like it's the
- 15:22same thing. Like, you know, all the vegetarians gone. You can't
- 15:26you know, you shouldn't. Shouldn't eat meat. You're killing the animals,
- 15:30And animals have feelings. Fucking vegetables do too. Fucking fucking stabbed vegetable every
- 15:35time you cook, like for fox sake, Yeah, vegetable killers. So
- 15:41the salad dodger is essentially saving vegetation. I guess over good, Hey,
- 15:48good, all right, So onto your show again at will to please you
- 15:50guys, Like, I'm sure there's going to be a couple of people there
- 15:52who haven't seen you before. So what can fans expect from for as s
- 15:56under construction. Well, I mean, we're going to go out and do
- 16:02what we do. We're going to PLU. Got a pretty nice set list.
- 16:04I won't reveal it, but we've got a pretty nice set list.
- 16:08There a couple o favorites. I think we're playing all of the new song.
- 16:14We're going to play the Hole EP. Yeah, so we're going to
- 16:17play the whole you know, it's fresh, it's new, It's it's been
- 16:19ten years since we release anything. That's got to be that's got to be
- 16:22a year longer than a tool album, right, they do like a nine
- 16:26year cycle. So yeah, maybe in twenty thirty three, after the Olympics,
- 16:30will throw out another EP. Yeah, we're going to yeah, yeah,
- 16:36that'd be yeah. I don't even know if I'll be able to walk
- 16:37on then, but we'll be able to thrash. But yeah, well,
- 16:41a looser playing the new EP, playing some old stuff. We've got a
- 16:45few little treats in store because obviously it's a festival and we want to sort
- 16:49of up the ante a little bit with our with our performance and our show.
- 16:55So there's some surprises, but we just kind of wing it. We
- 17:00when we do it. We have our set list and then we just sort
- 17:03of let it, let it happen. So yeah, I think it's going
- 17:06to be great. And I think if the if the crowd gets into it,
- 17:08and we get into it and everyone's into it, it'll be great.
- 17:12Oh and where can people get themselves a copy of the EP or order it
- 17:18online? Well, if you go to our Facebook page fuck Thrashing, or
- 17:26just just look up dot U dot c dot there's actually a link there to
- 17:30our band camp, so you can buy physical copies through band camp. We'll
- 17:37also have physical copies at wall If a Loser that you can buy. And
- 17:41we might even have some T shirts left. Yeah, we might have a
- 17:44couple of T shirts left. Again, we're we're a DIY, I think,
- 17:48and we just sort of make stuff and print stuff and do it as
- 17:52we go. We're not really we're not glorified T shirt salesmen like most fans,
- 17:57because we really don't give a ship. Yeah yeah, one thing we
- 18:00don't really like doing is standing behind the merching just in case you sell a
- 18:04shirt. So yeah, you bet. You are probably best off ordering our
- 18:08stuff online, I suppose, or at a show like Wallapalooza where there is
- 18:14a dedicated merch celler because we will put our merch up. But aside from
- 18:18that, YEP, and then next I think next week, both everything to
- 18:23the new EP and our album Humans Being they will all be up and available
- 18:30on all the streaming services. So we've taken our time with all that.
- 18:33But here we are so people can stream it, they can stream it on
- 18:37band camp, they can buy it digitally, they can buy it physically,
- 18:41options, options, freendless. Yeah, we're moving up. We're moving up
- 18:48in the world. We're becoming semi professional in that sense, but still maybe
- 18:55you are. Yeah, then we won't do anything for ten more years and
- 19:00shows off the back of this EPH it goes well, Thanks very much for
- 19:06talking. Pleasure speaking with your pros. Under construction of one of the bands
- 19:10to see at Walla Polue in November the fourth Wallaby Hotel. See you there.
- 19:21Yeah we did well. Yeah we lost ye like I just basically said
- 19:26goodbye, Hey, thanks, thanks for having us. We're excited for Walla.
- 19:34We're excited to see everyone. Thanks heavy for the interview, for the
- 19:38support. Uh and yeah, it's gonna be great. We're excited like big
- 19:44keV. Yeah, I'm excited. All right, guys, we'll see you
- 19:49next weekend. Excellent, thank you. Then no ways boys, s job
