- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome to another episode of Not Another Football Podcast with myself,
- 0:07Speaker 1: Simon Donnelly and Jackie McNamara and we are in the
- 0:12Speaker 1: Drygate Brewery today.
- 0:14Speaker 2: We're on site, on location with Phil from Feline, one
- 0:18Speaker 2: of our main sponsors for our crazy.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Challenge, the London Marathon. How are you doing? Yeah, good,
- 0:25Speaker 3: thanks for having me on. Is that how you pronounce it? Feline? Feline, yeah,
- 0:29Speaker 3: that's correct.
- 0:29Speaker 4: Feline?
- 0:29Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I think I was getting it wrong the last time
- 0:32Speaker 2: when we were doing a little bit of promo, I
- 0:34Speaker 2: was saying Filene.
- 0:35Speaker 3: So it's Filene.
- 0:36Speaker 5: Well you're not the only one because I was getting
- 0:37Speaker 5: it wrong for the first four years of the brand.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Is that right? I wasn't always connected. Where does the
- 0:42Speaker 3: name come from then? So it translates to healthy in
- 0:45Speaker 3: Scots Gaelic.
- 0:47Speaker 5: And so we yeah we picked the name because we
- 0:50Speaker 5: thought we wanted something that tied to our Scottish roots
- 0:53Speaker 5: and but you know with it being healthy not just
- 0:56Speaker 5: from a physical standpoint but also mental well-being as well
- 0:59Speaker 5: you know when you look good you feel good yeah
- 1:01Speaker 5: and so yeah that's kind of where the name came from.
- 1:03Speaker 3: And how long have you been up and running?
- 1:07Speaker 5: We're literally just moving into our fifth year now and
- 1:09Speaker 5: so yeah it's been It's been a long road. Maybe
- 1:12Speaker 5: not so much when you compare us against competitors, but
- 1:15Speaker 5: for me it feels like it's been a lifetime.
- 1:18Speaker 4: How did you get into it then?
- 1:20Speaker 5: So basically, I mean, it happened, well, it was a
- 1:24Speaker 5: year actually prior to us launching and we were literally
- 1:28Speaker 5: having a dinner table discussion with my family.
- 1:33Speaker 3: It was actually my uncle that suggested it.
- 1:36Speaker 5: He mentioned about, you know, you look at the likes
- 1:39Speaker 5: of Gymshark and all these other brands but there's nothing
- 1:41Speaker 5: that's Scottish out there and honestly it literally just grew
- 1:45Speaker 5: arms and legs from that point onwards. At the time
- 1:48Speaker 5: I was working for Amazon, I was in logistics and
- 1:50Speaker 5: I wasn't particularly happy in my role, I wanted to
- 1:53Speaker 5: do something different.
- 1:54Speaker 3: I didn't ever for a second.
- 1:55Speaker 5: Think I'd move into doing retail fashion and stuff but
- 1:59Speaker 5: here I am today.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Especially that would have been just after Covid as well
- 2:02Speaker 4: which is.
- 2:02Speaker 3: A big It was in the height of COVID.
- 2:04Speaker 4: The height of COVID.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:06Speaker 5: Which, I know, looking back, I was completely naive. But,
- 2:10Speaker 5: you know, yeah, it seemed to work. I had a
- 2:12Speaker 5: lot of downtime.
- 2:13Speaker 4: I suppose, yeah, a lot of time to think about
- 2:15Speaker 4: things and plan, I suppose.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Yes, yeah.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Hope the world gets back to normal.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Out running.
- 2:21Speaker 5: I mean, you could say in the early stages, it
- 2:23Speaker 5: was a lot of, like, learning on the job. I had,
- 2:27Speaker 5: like I say, no experience, logistics background, so everything from marketing,
- 2:32Speaker 5: web design, designing the products themselves I knew literally nothing
- 2:37Speaker 5: about so it just seems crazy when you look back
- 2:39Speaker 5: at taking that sort of leap of faith but I
- 2:41Speaker 5: think if I wasn't so naive at the start I
- 2:43Speaker 5: wouldn't have done it in the first place and obviously
- 2:45Speaker 5: I'm glad I have now that.
- 2:47Speaker 6: We're here today and building the brand as well yes
- 2:50Speaker 6: that's obviously the big bit as well when you're you
- 2:53Speaker 6: know getting it out there the name and the pronunciation.
- 2:56Speaker 5: Yes that's right yeah Yeah, I mean, it's such a
- 2:59Speaker 5: competitive market. Although it has grown, the sportswear industry and
- 3:04Speaker 5: the forecasting is still to go for the next five,
- 3:06Speaker 5: 10 years in the UK especially. So right now, we've
- 3:09Speaker 5: just focused on pushing in that market. And, you know,
- 3:12Speaker 5: I've spoke to a number of successful entrepreneurs and They
- 3:17Speaker 5: always tell me the longer you're in the game, the
- 3:18Speaker 5: more chance of success you have. And so that's kind
- 3:21Speaker 5: of what's kept me motivated to keep pushing through the
- 3:23Speaker 5: difficult times over the past few years. Thankfully, this year
- 3:26Speaker 5: we've seen a lot of improvement and moving definitely in
- 3:28Speaker 5: the right direction.
- 3:30Speaker 3: So for me, it's been a rollercoaster, you could say.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Do you have a design....
- 3:37Speaker 3: Team there or do you do all the design yourself
- 3:39Speaker 3: or is there people?
- 3:40Speaker 5: So yeah initially the way it worked we worked with
- 3:44Speaker 5: a designer called Lily I just found her on LinkedIn
- 3:47Speaker 5: worked really well with her for the first few years
- 3:51Speaker 5: and so we'd just give her sort of inspiration for
- 3:53Speaker 5: designs that we kind of like to look off and
- 3:55Speaker 5: like what sort of twist can you put on this
- 3:57Speaker 5: and the way it would work she would then come
- 3:59Speaker 5: back with you know so many different variations of a
- 4:02Speaker 5: given sort of design that we had initially briefed her
- 4:05Speaker 5: on and then Lily went off to do her own
- 4:09Speaker 5: thing and so since then we've kind of just managed
- 4:12Speaker 5: it between ourselves we've had a couple of grads in
- 4:14Speaker 5: over the years as well that I've really supported as
- 4:17Speaker 5: well that's the one area that actually my creative mindset
- 4:21Speaker 5: isn't particularly great we're a numbers guy so I lean
- 4:24Speaker 5: on quite heavily for support around that area I kind
- 4:27Speaker 5: of have a vision of what I want but someone
- 4:29Speaker 5: bringing it to life is what I need so Yeah,
- 4:32Speaker 5: we've managed to get there. So recently, yeah, we've been
- 4:35Speaker 5: working with a grad who's working on some new designs
- 4:37Speaker 5: for next year.
- 4:39Speaker 6: So even, like, when you're starting in, so do you
- 4:41Speaker 6: go and source the materials, the, you know, manufacture?
- 4:45Speaker 4: How does it all work? So.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Now, the way it works, we've got a couple of
- 4:51Speaker 5: factories that we work with, primarily in Asia and China,
- 4:55Speaker 5: although we've been trying to move things a lot closer
- 4:58Speaker 5: with Turkey. We would typically give them a tech pack.
- 5:02Speaker 5: They would then produce the garments as samples. We would
- 5:06Speaker 5: review them probably in three, four different rounds, giving them
- 5:09Speaker 5: feedback each time, and then we could move to mass production.
- 5:13Speaker 5: So in terms of sourcing the materials and stuff, that's
- 5:15Speaker 5: all done in-house from the factory and that's what you're
- 5:17Speaker 5: paying for.
- 5:19Speaker 3: But there's a few stories in there as to when
- 5:21Speaker 3: it's went wrong.
- 5:22Speaker 5: We've used middlemen before that we thought would maybe ease
- 5:25Speaker 5: up the.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Process and actually we've been burnt out a few times
- 5:28Speaker 3: from it.
- 5:30Speaker 4: So much goes into it, it's not just.
- 5:32Speaker 6: Getting the stuff in your packaging, I was really impressed
- 5:34Speaker 6: with your packaging as well.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Yes.
- 5:36Speaker 4: You know, when you gave us the samples.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, that's all stuff that's kind of evolved
- 5:41Speaker 3: over the years.
- 5:41Speaker 5: I mean, initially it was just a clear see-through bag
- 5:44Speaker 5: that we were putting the packages in. Yeah, over time
- 5:50Speaker 5: we were like, no, we need to put our stamp
- 5:51Speaker 5: on it, we need to make sure everything from start
- 5:53Speaker 5: to finish is, you.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Know, high quality and that's like the level that we expect, so.
- 5:59Speaker 5: Yeah, it's been trial and error, learning on the job
- 6:02Speaker 5: and I can safely say I'm very comfortable where we're
- 6:05Speaker 5: at now that we're delivering what a customer would expect.
- 6:09Speaker 2: We obviously got our stuff for running. Do you cross
- 6:15Speaker 2: all the sport? What kind of stuff are you focusing
- 6:18Speaker 2: on at the moment? Yeah so I'd.
- 6:20Speaker 5: Say when we first started the brand we initially focused
- 6:22Speaker 5: on the gym market that's what I gravitated towards myself
- 6:26Speaker 5: although I started getting into running and we found a
- 6:29Speaker 5: lot of the products that we were selling resonated quite
- 6:31Speaker 5: closely with runners and so as time went on actually
- 6:36Speaker 5: we started to evolve our product range and try and
- 6:38Speaker 5: fit it around the running market and you know there's
- 6:42Speaker 5: a lot of hybrid athletes out there anyway that do
- 6:44Speaker 5: a combination of strength and condition and cardio stuff so
- 6:49Speaker 5: Like us.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Like you guys, exactly.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Prime examples.
- 6:52Speaker 5: So, yeah, that led on to actually, you know, when
- 6:57Speaker 5: we first developed our products, I would say we went
- 7:01Speaker 5: in with the idea, like, get a half-decent fabric, make
- 7:04Speaker 5: it look quite nice.
- 7:06Speaker 3: That's what we'll launch with.
- 7:07Speaker 5: But as times went on, I've definitely started looking at
- 7:10Speaker 5: more the practicality side of products as well. So for
- 7:13Speaker 5: me personally, when I started running products, I started getting
- 7:17Speaker 5: a sort of rash in between my legs.
- 7:19Speaker 3: I was going to say, do you need to do
- 7:20Speaker 3: a lot of testing?
- 7:21Speaker 5: Yes, I would say so. That's definitely done so. There's
- 7:25Speaker 5: many samples we can get, dish them out. So then
- 7:27Speaker 5: we developed our double layer shorts that have been really popular,
- 7:31Speaker 5: our best-selling product. And so we designed this inner layer
- 7:35Speaker 5: short that's integrated as part of the short. It's a
- 7:39Speaker 5: very nice fabric that doesn't rub against your legs and
- 7:43Speaker 5: cause this rash that I had. we put a storage
- 7:46Speaker 5: pocket for your phone that doesn't bounce it around because
- 7:49Speaker 5: that was one of my pet peeves as well and
- 7:51Speaker 5: so yeah it's just trying to think in the eyes
- 7:53Speaker 5: of well what do our customers want and need so
- 7:56Speaker 5: we do listen to feedback and kind of develop on
- 7:58Speaker 5: the back of.
- 7:59Speaker 6: That I think like the bigger talk you know the
- 8:02Speaker 6: like the sweat talk one it actually encourages you Not
- 8:08Speaker 6: to eat.
- 8:09Speaker 4: To go out and run.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Yes.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Tight fit. Tight fit. Carrying a wee pot.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Don't be so happy.
- 8:16Speaker 4: I'm talking about yourself.
- 8:19Speaker 6: I think when you've got it on, you're like, shit,
- 8:24Speaker 6: better go and derp it here.
- 8:26Speaker 2: All right, guys, we are here at the Drygate Brewery
- 8:28Speaker 2: in Glasgow.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Filming a couple of podcasts.
- 8:31Speaker 2: We'd just like to tell you about the 29th of
- 8:33Speaker 2: November that I get this throw in a massive St
- 8:36Speaker 2: Andrew's Day party. Trust us, you don't want to miss
- 8:39Speaker 2: this one. We're talking proper Scottish celebrations, brilliant entertainment.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Tenants stout. Have you tried that?
- 8:45Speaker 4: Not yet.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Sponsoring the day, charity involvement in an atmosphere that will
- 8:49Speaker 3: be hard to beat.
- 8:51Speaker 4: I think they'll be giving St Paddy's Day one for
- 8:52Speaker 4: their money, sir. They will be.
- 8:54Speaker 3: So get your pals together, get your Scottish pride out
- 8:56Speaker 3: and get yourselves down to the Drygate.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Email hello at drygate.co.uk on at Drygate on Instagram as well.
- 9:04Speaker 3: So get yourselves down.
- 9:06Speaker 2: We're going to be the best kitted out pair at
- 9:10Speaker 2: this London Marathon.
- 9:11Speaker 3: I don't know if we're going to be the fittest,
- 9:13Speaker 3: but we're definitely going to be the fittest.
- 9:15Speaker 4: You may look the part, but no, be the part.
- 9:16Speaker 3: As long as you finish it. Lose a couple of pounds.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yeah. but aye that's just a tight fit isn't it
- 9:24Speaker 2: it's tight yeah it's.
- 9:25Speaker 6: Tight the top though the t-shirt's different you know what
- 9:27Speaker 6: I mean the t-shirt's good but the top actually that
- 9:30Speaker 6: was the first thing you know when you put something
- 9:32Speaker 6: on and it's tight like that and you see the
- 9:34Speaker 6: wee bits and you're like nah I'm not going to
- 9:36Speaker 6: do that and it inspires you.
- 9:38Speaker 3: To the first time we met Phil was this what
- 9:40Speaker 3: you were talking about.
- 9:41Speaker 6: I was like kind of breathing in I can't say
- 9:45Speaker 6: I noticed I keep reminding myself it'll be alright in
- 9:48Speaker 6: the night once we've started yeah the intensive training for
- 9:51Speaker 6: it not down to a six pack again but definitely
- 9:55Speaker 6: down to a you know what I mean feeling better
- 9:58Speaker 6: and looking a bit better when it's on.
- 10:00Speaker 5: No absolutely yeah and the products are designed in such
- 10:03Speaker 5: a way that yeah they've got a sort of four
- 10:05Speaker 5: way elasticity to.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Them so that they are comfortable and yeah that's the one.
- 10:10Speaker 5: Thing actually that we've found with some customers that have
- 10:13Speaker 5: come back and shop with us again it's really nice
- 10:15Speaker 5: to see when people are dropping down sizes if they're
- 10:18Speaker 5: on a weight loss journey and we've seen that quite
- 10:20Speaker 5: a number of times so they're coming back and they're
- 10:22Speaker 5: like oh you know I've actually ordered your shorts an
- 10:25Speaker 5: extra large and now it's down to medium and I'm
- 10:27Speaker 5: like wow that's incredible that'll be us that'll be you
- 10:30Speaker 5: guys I'm.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Medium I'm medium right now Maybe that's why. He's an in.
- 10:36Speaker 3: He's an in.
- 10:38Speaker 4: Something to push for.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely.
- 10:40Speaker 2: We've actually had guys on from other brands a couple
- 10:44Speaker 2: of weeks ago.
- 10:44Speaker 4: Yeah, for Cairn.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Cairn.
- 10:47Speaker 2: They're now Cairn. And their trial's in tribulation. So you've
- 10:50Speaker 2: been going five years. Give us some of the kind
- 10:52Speaker 2: of opposite, because you're saying it's quite an intense environment
- 10:56Speaker 2: that you're in there, competitive. How do you keep pushing forward,
- 10:59Speaker 2: coming up with the new ideas and stuff?
- 11:02Speaker 3: I think.
- 11:04Speaker 5: This year, especially, I've really learned that, you know, like
- 11:08Speaker 5: I said before, I'm a bit of a numbers guy.
- 11:11Speaker 5: I naively thought, you know, if I can do half-decent
- 11:15Speaker 5: advertisements through social channels.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Like, we'll build a brand that way. But it's all
- 11:22Speaker 3: completely changed.
- 11:22Speaker 5: People really buy into the brand and what you're building.
- 11:25Speaker 5: And they want to be a part of a community.
- 11:27Speaker 5: And so this year, we've really focused on that. And
- 11:29Speaker 5: I think that that's what separates us a brand that
- 11:32Speaker 5: can really grow is really focusing on that community aspect
- 11:37Speaker 5: opposed to just being almost like a faceless brand that
- 11:40Speaker 5: doesn't really have much emotional attachment to it. But yeah,
- 11:44Speaker 5: in terms of trials and tribulations, I don't even know
- 11:46Speaker 5: where to start. One of the biggest ones, and we're
- 11:49Speaker 5: kind of still dealing with the aftermath of it, was
- 11:52Speaker 5: dealing with a middleman that kind of messed us around
- 11:58Speaker 5: with a women's range that we decided to launch a
- 12:00Speaker 5: couple of years into the brand. And we had to
- 12:04Speaker 5: order like thousands and thousands of these leggings as a
- 12:08Speaker 5: minimum order quantity. And naively, I kind of just went
- 12:11Speaker 5: along with it, thinking this is what just had to happen.
- 12:15Speaker 5: I'd never really done an awful lot of research into it, admittedly.
- 12:19Speaker 5: And then before you know it, we've tied up all
- 12:21Speaker 5: our money into this inventory that's sitting there that's not
- 12:24Speaker 5: moving fast enough to be able to reinvest it. So
- 12:27Speaker 5: actually a few, maybe a month ago, a month and
- 12:30Speaker 5: a half ago, made the difficult decision to discontinue the
- 12:32Speaker 5: women's wear range. So we've got everything on sale just now,
- 12:37Speaker 5: just to try and free up cash so we can invest.
- 12:40Speaker 4: I think that's the biggest.
- 12:41Speaker 6: Thing that, you know, when you're doing it, is the
- 12:43Speaker 6: cash flow. You have all the stock and everything else
- 12:46Speaker 6: and putting it out. And that was what happened with
- 12:48Speaker 6: the guys that we had on, if you'd be inspired.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Theirs went massive. Yes. You know, their brand. But again.
- 12:55Speaker 6: it was like what the guys were saying about what
- 12:57Speaker 6: they were really strong at, you know, and it wasn't
- 13:01Speaker 6: the business side, but it was how they got started,
- 13:03Speaker 6: but it was fascinating actually how they do it, you know,
- 13:06Speaker 6: because it is a stressful thing as well, especially as
- 13:10Speaker 6: a new business and trying to grow it and get
- 13:12Speaker 6: it out there.
- 13:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, the one thing I would say that's
- 13:16Speaker 5: changed as well this year versus the first four years
- 13:20Speaker 5: I've run in the brand is AI and the ability
- 13:23Speaker 5: to leverage what I'm doing, so quite quickly, the need
- 13:27Speaker 5: for maybe bringing in someone that could do coding on
- 13:30Speaker 5: the website is no longer required, where I can do
- 13:33Speaker 5: that in-house myself.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Same with marketing plans, everything pretty much from A to Z.
- 13:39Speaker 5: So it's really, I mean, I know that it gets
- 13:42Speaker 5: a lot of negative stick AI, but for a small
- 13:45Speaker 5: business like ours, it's really leveraged and given us an
- 13:49Speaker 5: ability to compete with the bigger players in the industry,
- 13:53Speaker 5: because it's almost like having an expert in every field.
- 13:56Speaker 3: At your disposal.
- 13:58Speaker 6: So what is the ambition then to grow up? What's
- 14:02Speaker 6: your end game?
- 14:02Speaker 5: So for us, it's just continuing to focus in on
- 14:05Speaker 5: the men's range because we've really, I think, been able to.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Get a good strong foothold in that market in the UK.
- 14:14Speaker 5: I would like to maybe in the next year or
- 14:15Speaker 5: so start branching out internationally. So we've looked at shipping
- 14:20Speaker 5: to Ireland and maybe the.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Rest of Europe.
- 14:22Speaker 5: It's just navigating all the taxes and duties that you
- 14:25Speaker 5: have to pay with these countries. But certainly that's something
- 14:28Speaker 5: on my horizon. This year we had set a target
- 14:32Speaker 5: to get into retail space and we've managed to do that.
- 14:35Speaker 3: I was going to ask that. So you're in shops? Yes.
- 14:39Speaker 3: So we've got.
- 14:41Speaker 5: The Guile Shopping Centre in Edinburgh.
- 14:43Speaker 3: We're going to be in there for at least to
- 14:45Speaker 3: the end of the year.
- 14:46Speaker 5: So, born in Scotland, the chain, the retail chain, if
- 14:51Speaker 5: you've heard of them, they had a pop-up shop that
- 14:53Speaker 5: was just there for the summer through the World.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Cup, doing the Scotland stuff.
- 14:59Speaker 4: I've seen that, yeah.
- 15:01Speaker 5: And what they've done on the back of the World
- 15:03Speaker 5: Cup ending is they're trying to branch out and keep
- 15:05Speaker 5: the shop itself.
- 15:07Speaker 3: But, you know, getting more local teams.
- 15:10Speaker 5: So Hibs are going to be in that same shop
- 15:11Speaker 5: alongside ourselves. And then maybe a few other teams like
- 15:15Speaker 5: Hearts and stuff are going to be in there. And so, yeah,
- 15:18Speaker 5: we're just going to wait and see what happens on
- 15:19Speaker 5: the back of that. But they've been really good to us.
- 15:21Speaker 5: We've got about a quarter of the store. We've got
- 15:23Speaker 5: pretty much every product in that store right now. So
- 15:26Speaker 5: it's been really good because it's the number one barrier
- 15:28Speaker 5: for being an online brand is someone can't come and
- 15:30Speaker 5: touch feel the product or try it on.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Whereas it's, yes, removed that barrier now.
- 15:35Speaker 5: And then we've got a pop-up in Glasgow today.
- 15:37Speaker 3: On the 7th and 8th of November. Was this not
- 15:40Speaker 3: a wee word maybe?
- 15:41Speaker 5: Yes, it would be good to have you guys over
- 15:44Speaker 5: and I can give you your next round of kit.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Maybe the double air shorts.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Put your phone in.
- 15:51Speaker 5: But yeah, we've got that lined up. So yeah, getting
- 15:54Speaker 5: more retail presence has been a big.
- 15:57Speaker 4: So you're just going to keep it all about... running
- 16:01Speaker 4: are you going to go into other sports or golf
- 16:03Speaker 4: or paddle paddle's big.
- 16:05Speaker 5: Yeah I mean the stuff we do like get customers
- 16:09Speaker 5: using it for tennis paddle because the actual shorts and
- 16:12Speaker 5: that they'd be good for that yes but in terms
- 16:16Speaker 5: of the marketing aspect I wouldn't say we necessarily go
- 16:20Speaker 5: down that route with it so yeah I think that's
- 16:23Speaker 5: something that we can certainly look at for sure.
- 16:26Speaker 3: What other kind of sports are you aren't you.
- 16:28Speaker 5: Yeah Before I had my wee one, six and a
- 16:33Speaker 5: half months, I was into golf.
- 16:36Speaker 4: Golf, eh?
- 16:36Speaker 5: Can't find the time for it now. And I like
- 16:39Speaker 5: the gym and doing some running as well when I
- 16:41Speaker 5: get the chance. But, yeah, quite a variety, to be honest. Yeah.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Is that where you kind of came into the kind
- 16:48Speaker 2: of sports side of it then? Because obviously you said
- 16:50Speaker 2: you had been into the fashion side of it before.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Was it always down to sports, haven't you?
- 16:55Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 16:58Speaker 5: And, like, I think, yeah, just trying to, bridge the
- 17:01Speaker 5: gaps that I felt there was in the sportswear industry itself,
- 17:06Speaker 5: addressing the issues that I faced first hand. And doing
- 17:09Speaker 5: it at a cost that I think isn't completely overpriced
- 17:12Speaker 5: to what customers should be paying for.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Our double-air shorts are.
- 17:16Speaker 5: Very competitive against the market. So for me, I was
- 17:20Speaker 5: just trying to build something that's reasonable for people, that's
- 17:23Speaker 5: accessible for people for all budgets.
- 17:26Speaker 2: So you mentioned about Harts and Hibs, obviously you've done
- 17:29Speaker 2: a little bit with both clubs, where do you lean towards?
- 17:34Speaker 3: The west side of Edinburgh, Harts. The Jambos. Yeah, the Jambos.
- 17:38Speaker 3: So have you done a little bit of work with
- 17:40Speaker 3: both clubs?
- 17:41Speaker 5: Not personally, it's through the Born in Scotland shop that
- 17:46Speaker 5: they're looking to bring in Hibs for now, and so yeah,
- 17:50Speaker 5: maybe being alongside them. I mean in the designs when
- 17:53Speaker 5: we were doing our tops... That was always in the
- 17:55Speaker 5: back of my mind, what colours can we cover to
- 17:59Speaker 5: cover the football teams in Scotland.
- 18:01Speaker 3: So I've got a maroon top in there. I've got
- 18:03Speaker 3: a green one.
- 18:04Speaker 4: Do you want to go into doing football strips?
- 18:06Speaker 3: Who knows what the future holds.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Or a sponsor.
- 18:08Speaker 4: Who knows, potentially, yeah.
- 18:15Speaker 5: I mean, speaking to some friends that have had footballing careers,
- 18:20Speaker 5: you know, they say that the fabrics that we've used
- 18:22Speaker 5: in some of the pitches are very similar to that of.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Their training gear.
- 18:26Speaker 5: So, yeah, we've got the, I guess, the infrastructure there
- 18:29Speaker 5: to do that. It's just if someone wants to partner along.
- 18:32Speaker 3: So this could be the start of it.
- 18:35Speaker 4: You never know.
- 18:35Speaker 3: You never know.
- 18:36Speaker 4: So you're a Hearts fan?
- 18:38Speaker 3: Yes.
- 18:39Speaker 4: So.
- 18:40Speaker 6: No, that was sweet, but it was obviously a good.
- 18:43Speaker 4: Season for you last year.
- 18:45Speaker 3: I just.
- 18:45Speaker 1: very very.
- 18:46Speaker 5: Close just at the end yeah so aye I mean
- 18:48Speaker 5: obviously this has come around in the back so it
- 18:50Speaker 5: makes it a bit easier to take do you go
- 18:53Speaker 5: into the games or when I when I can I
- 18:56Speaker 5: mean I'll be there on Sunday watching them against Hibs
- 19:00Speaker 5: that's right it's a derby isn't it yeah couldn't miss
- 19:03Speaker 5: that one Hibs Hibs are struggling now they could they
- 19:06Speaker 5: need a win at the semi semi-final yeah we've got
- 19:09Speaker 5: a good record against them there.
- 19:11Speaker 4: So yeah you going to that then that yeah.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Yeah we'll be aye just wait couple of mates, so
- 19:17Speaker 3: we'll see. Don't want to say too much. You're too
- 19:20Speaker 3: young for the first time round, obviously the Denz Park one.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Yes, yeah.
- 19:24Speaker 3: You missed that one, but last year, just getting so close. Yeah.
- 19:29Speaker 3: No gloating here. No, no.
- 19:32Speaker 2: It actually brought something to the Scottish game in terms
- 19:36Speaker 2: of it's always really Celtic and Rangers competing for that league.
- 19:40Speaker 2: So to have a third team coming in, it's very rare.
- 19:42Speaker 2: I think the last time it was ever been.
- 19:46Speaker 6: In the 80s if Harts had seen it through and
- 19:49Speaker 6: got over the line we wouldn't be sitting here now
- 19:51Speaker 6: because when we were doing the marathon yeah exactly good
- 19:54Speaker 6: point yeah that's a good point at that point when
- 19:59Speaker 6: we made the bet that Celtic wouldn't leave that's a
- 20:01Speaker 6: good point.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Actually yeah that's a positive way to look at it
- 20:04Speaker 3: from my.
- 20:04Speaker 6: Perspective we were kind of sitting there thinking confidently that
- 20:07Speaker 6: we wouldn't be doing the marathon yeah so I've got
- 20:10Speaker 6: hearts to thank for that.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Haven't we? Shaban and hearts, obviously. Shaban and hearts. That's
- 20:16Speaker 3: a good way of looking at it.
- 20:17Speaker 2: It must have been, to get so close, you weren't
- 20:20Speaker 2: at Celtic Park on the last day, were you?
- 20:21Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 20:22Speaker 5: Can you remember who you were? I was in Gorgie
- 20:25Speaker 5: with half the Hearts fan base. Drinking our sorrows at
- 20:30Speaker 5: the end of it. it just is what it is
- 20:33Speaker 5: that's just the nature of the beast but I'm confident
- 20:36Speaker 5: that you know in the next well Tony Bowen was
- 20:39Speaker 5: planning in the next 10 years.
- 20:40Speaker 2: So are you happy with the way the club are
- 20:41Speaker 2: going then obviously a new manager coming in yes a.
- 20:45Speaker 6: New manager I like his philosophy I like the way
- 20:48Speaker 6: he wants to play.
- 20:49Speaker 5: Yeah he got a very good name from where he'd
- 20:51Speaker 5: come from and like from what I can see in
- 20:54Speaker 5: the early signs minus how Celtic Park went that week.
- 20:57Speaker 6: Yeah I mean I was upset that game I went
- 21:00Speaker 6: to watch it, it was the first game I'd beaten,
- 21:02Speaker 6: I watched Celtic in their season life, but they were clinical,
- 21:06Speaker 6: I mean, the first two goals were corners, and then,
- 21:09Speaker 6: because Hearts had actually a couple of chances.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Just before it, Hearts start the game better, and the
- 21:15Speaker 3: manager kind of.
- 21:15Speaker 6: Went for it, which you don't normally see, you know,
- 21:18Speaker 6: he went man for man at the back, and just, right,
- 21:20Speaker 6: we'll go and match them and force Celtic there, but
- 21:23Speaker 6: Celtic pressed high, and they got the goal, and they
- 21:26Speaker 6: were clinical on the day, but... Hart's actually had a
- 21:29Speaker 6: couple of chances just before Celtic scored, but I'd rather
- 21:33Speaker 6: go and watch a team go and.
- 21:34Speaker 4: Have a go than sitting on the bus.
- 21:37Speaker 5: I think that's one thing I think everyone's kind of
- 21:40Speaker 5: learned quite quickly as a Hearts fan, is he's going
- 21:43Speaker 5: to play attacking football no matter who you are. So, yeah,
- 21:47Speaker 5: it's exciting to watch for sure. So I'm excited for
- 21:49Speaker 5: tonight's game against Rangers.
- 21:51Speaker 4: You see what the guy's done with Brighton.
- 21:53Speaker 3: I know, I know. If he can do it. The
- 21:57Speaker 3: test is, obviously, if you can do it over time.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Celtic Rangers, particularly Celtic, very strong in recent times.
- 22:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:05Speaker 2: If you can sustain that, the disappointment of last year,
- 22:09Speaker 2: change of squad, change of manager.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Losing some key players. You have to keep going. It's difficult.
- 22:14Speaker 3: It's a difficult summer. Yeah. It was a difficult summer
- 22:18Speaker 3: to take.
- 22:18Speaker 5: But, yeah, in the back, I think so far, minus
- 22:22Speaker 5: all the injuries that we've been getting, it seems to
- 22:24Speaker 5: be going in the right direction.
- 22:25Speaker 4: It's a difficult start. Mm-hmm.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Well we'll leave it on that note as I say
- 22:31Speaker 2: if we had if Celtic hadn't won the title we
- 22:35Speaker 2: wouldn't be sitting here with Phil we wouldn't have the
- 22:38Speaker 2: Philene gear glad they did.
- 22:41Speaker 3: I can't say that much I'll.
- 22:43Speaker 6: Tell you after the marathon how happy we are about
- 22:47Speaker 6: it but it's a good cause.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Absolutely we'll see you at the pop up shop in
- 22:51Speaker 2: December November.
- 22:53Speaker 4: November.
- 22:53Speaker 3: November, sorry.
- 22:54Speaker 4: November.
- 22:55Speaker 3: November, I'm just going.
- 22:56Speaker 4: To say it.
- 22:57Speaker 5: Cheers.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Okay, thank you.
- 22:58Speaker 4: Thanks.
