- 0:01Hello. Welcome to the No God Coach
- 0:03Huddle for May 7, 2025. Your two-minute
- 0:06play of the day for applying God's word
- 0:08in your life. So, let's huddle up and
- 0:11hear today's play from Mark 8, which
- 0:13says, "Be careful." Jesus warned them.
- 0:15Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees
- 0:18and that of Herod. They discussed this
- 0:20with one another and said, "It's because
- 0:21we have no bread." Jesus and his
- 0:24disciples went on to the villages around
- 0:26Cesaria Philippi. And on the way he
- 0:28asked them, "Who do people say I am?"
- 0:30And they replied, "Some say John the
- 0:32Baptist and others Elijah and still
- 0:34others one of the prophets. But what
- 0:36about you?" He asked them, "Who do you
- 0:38say I am?" And Peter answered, "You are
- 0:40the Messiah." He then began to teach
- 0:42them that the Son of Man must suffer
- 0:44many things and be rejected by the
- 0:46elders, the chief priests, and the
- 0:48teachers of the law, that he must be
- 0:50killed, and after three days rise again.
- 0:53He spoke plainly about this and Peter
- 0:55took him aside and began to rebuke him.
- 0:57Then he called the crowd to him along
- 0:59with his disciples and said, "Whoever
- 1:01wants to be my disciple must deny
- 1:03themselves and take up their cross and
- 1:05follow me. For whoever wants to save
- 1:07their life will lose it, but whoever
- 1:09loses their life for me and for the
- 1:11gospel will save it." You know, when God
- 1:14came to earth to live among us, as one
- 1:17of us, so that he could offer himself as
- 1:19a perfect human sacrifice for the sins
- 1:22of humanity, it was not obvious to the
- 1:24Jews. And neither did he always try to
- 1:27make himself unquestionably clear. Jesus
- 1:30fulfilled all of the scripture
- 1:32forecasting God's coming to earth as
- 1:34savior and lord. Yet the Messiah
- 1:36expected was not the Messiah who came
- 1:39because the clarity of Jesus in the
- 1:41scripture was not obvious. Today they
- 1:43the Jews still reject Jesus's Messiah.
- 1:46And many Christians reject his work as
- 1:48fully accomplished, expecting instead
- 1:50for him to return again from heaven to
- 1:53live on earth as the Messiah expected by
- 1:55the Jews. Jesus's God could have said to
- 1:58beware of the teachings of the
- 1:59Pharisees, but instead he said to beware
- 2:02of the yeast of the Pharisees. This
- 2:04terminology created confusion among the
- 2:06disciples instead of clarity. The people
- 2:09were confused about his role as Messiah,
- 2:11being rejected into a crucifixion by the
- 2:14religious leaders. Peter seeks to rebuke
- 2:17God for his error in understanding the
- 2:19scripture when God fully explains from
- 2:21the scripture the life of the Messiah.
- 2:23Yet God is crystal clear in his
- 2:25communication of what he expects of us.
- 2:27Jesus calls to disciplehip among his
- 2:30people is without fog or confusion. Yet
- 2:33we live as though we don't understand
- 2:35his words. If we embrace Jesus's God in
- 2:38man and understand his fulfillment of
- 2:40scripture as Messiah, then we have no
- 2:42excuse for ignoring his clear commands
- 2:44as that Messiah. Some of the scripture
- 2:47remains a mystery to us, like how and
- 2:49when Jesus will return and what happens
- 2:52to us until then if we sleep or live
- 2:54immediately with God in paradise. But
- 2:56what is not confusing and what our focus
- 2:58and effort should remain upon is the
- 3:00command of Jesus to follow him by
- 3:02denying ourselves so that we can work
- 3:05for him by going to all the world and
- 3:07making disciples.
