- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that uh, Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
- 0:05Speaker 1: The rex was not chasing the jeep. Murray Murry, you there.
- 0:09Speaker 1: You love sandwiches. Huh, Let's go to uh eighty.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It was bo.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Wow that Prime Time.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Maybe I had a crush on Betty Rubbell. I honestly,
- 0:20Speaker 1: until after the segment ended and we went to commercial break,
- 0:23Speaker 1: had no idea that Jonathan Coachman was black.
- 0:25Speaker 3: He caught them the game last night, although they won
- 0:28Speaker 3: the game.
- 0:29Speaker 4: You're listening just to Godson Company.
- 0:32Speaker 5: So Mikey, I told my friend Sean McDonough I was
- 0:34Speaker 5: doing the show today from the New House School. He
- 0:37Speaker 5: graduated from Syracuse University, the New House School.
- 0:40Speaker 2: He's very proud of.
- 0:40Speaker 5: That, and he has concerns that I'm going to tarnish
- 0:43Speaker 5: the good name here of the New House School at Syracuse.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Like, how am I arriving at the same place where.
- 0:49Speaker 2: You graduated from, Sean McDonough, Well, I'm glad to see
- 0:52Speaker 2: you finally got in a new house. You know that
- 0:54Speaker 2: this would be the only way that you were able
- 0:56Speaker 2: to do it. I'm glad to see that beautiful s
- 1:01Speaker 2: orange s behind you. And it's quite a facility, isn't
- 1:05Speaker 2: it In all seriousness? I mean, you can see why
- 1:08Speaker 2: young people want to go there in droves because you know,
- 1:12Speaker 2: not only is there the great history and there's a
- 1:14Speaker 2: great program, but the facilities now are top shelf as well.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Oh they're amazing.
- 1:18Speaker 5: I was telling the folks and the folks who work
- 1:20Speaker 5: here are incredible. I was telling Olivia, who you know,
- 1:24Speaker 5: that if I had these kinds of facilities, I'd actually
- 1:26Speaker 5: be good at this.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I mean, Olivia is the best. Olivia Stompsky, who runs
- 1:33Speaker 2: the New House Sports Media Center up there, does a
- 1:35Speaker 2: great job. You know. I've talked to a lot of
- 1:37Speaker 2: students over the years who realize how blessed they are
- 1:41Speaker 2: to have her leading the program too. She's another big
- 1:44Speaker 2: part of the reason why it's such a popular program.
- 1:47Speaker 5: So I'm up here for my daughter's graduation. What do
- 1:50Speaker 5: you remember about your graduation? Shaw McDonough, Remember.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty much went straight there from whatever we were
- 1:57Speaker 2: doing the night before.
- 2:02Speaker 3: I'm certain you did.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm pretty sure we did. You know, I remember
- 2:06Speaker 2: several things. Actually shockingly, Dan Rather was the speaker, right,
- 2:10Speaker 2: and you know, he was terrific, and he said several things.
- 2:14Speaker 2: I remember one of which was the most important thing
- 2:19Speaker 2: I'm going to paraphrase this in life is sincerity. And
- 2:24Speaker 2: as soon as you learn how to fake that, you're
- 2:27Speaker 2: all set. From a credible news anchor, yeah, exactly right.
- 2:36Speaker 2: So every time I go up there to that beautiful
- 2:38Speaker 2: campus where you are right now, and I speak to
- 2:41Speaker 2: broadcasting students, I always say, the most important thing in
- 2:44Speaker 2: broadcasting is sincerity. Pause, pause, and as soon as you
- 2:48Speaker 2: learn how to fake that, you're all set. And they
- 2:50Speaker 2: all look at me like it's a joke, people, it's
- 2:54Speaker 2: a joke. So but I remember the other thing. I
- 3:00Speaker 2: remember my dear departed dad. You know, the late great
- 3:04Speaker 2: Will McDonough was a great friend of Al Davis, you know,
- 3:07Speaker 2: the legendary football man best known for being the Raider's owner.
- 3:13Speaker 2: And when I went to Syracuse there he called a
- 3:15Speaker 2: great friend to his doctor, Luke Laporta, who was high
- 3:19Speaker 2: up in the development office, and said, this kid, Sean
- 3:22Speaker 2: mcdonn is going there. You need to take great care
- 3:25Speaker 2: of him while he's there. I wasn't on campus for
- 3:27Speaker 2: a day. The hall of phone ring. Some kid knocks
- 3:29Speaker 2: on my door. You McDonough, you have a call on
- 3:31Speaker 2: the house phone, like who's calling me? I don't know,
- 3:33Speaker 2: but Sean, this is Luke Laporta. I'm a great friend
- 3:36Speaker 2: of Al Davis. He told me to take great care
- 3:38Speaker 2: of you. Come down and see me as soon as
- 3:40Speaker 2: you can. So I went down to see him, and
- 3:42Speaker 2: for four years Luke was you know, took care of
- 3:44Speaker 2: me and everybody's like my godfather there, including in graduation
- 3:49Speaker 2: when he got my family, including my dad a sweet
- 3:53Speaker 2: in the carrier. Don't then the carrier, don't now or
- 3:56Speaker 2: so Dan Rather at one point said well, you know,
- 3:59Speaker 2: stay end up and wave at your parents and salute
- 4:02Speaker 2: your parents, and you know it's a big dome. So
- 4:04Speaker 2: most of my buddies I've sent with I don't know
- 4:06Speaker 2: where my parents And I was like, well, I know
- 4:07Speaker 2: where my family is because they're at a big shot
- 4:10Speaker 2: box that Luke got us right there. Thank you Al Davis.
- 4:12Speaker 2: So I remember that from my commencement as well. That's
- 4:16Speaker 2: about it. But congratulations to your daughter, thank you. She's
- 4:20Speaker 2: had a great experience there because everybody does. And congratulations
- 4:24Speaker 2: to you because you just got about a ninety thousand
- 4:26Speaker 2: dollars a year raise.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I'm duessing, yes, I look forward to those bills. No
- 4:32Speaker 3: longer coming to my email.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Yes, I barely made it through Syracuse financially back then
- 4:38Speaker 2: when it was a lot, you know, less expensive, when
- 4:40Speaker 2: we were passing the dinosaurs on campus on the way
- 4:43Speaker 2: to class, when they were roaming the earth, and I
- 4:46Speaker 2: wouldn't have gotten through were it not for the great
- 4:48Speaker 2: help of our late great football coach Dick McPherson. But
- 4:50Speaker 2: that's a story for another time.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Okay, I will ask you that story at a different time.
- 4:56Speaker 5: I am wondering here. So Tarrico's doing the commencement speech.
- 4:59Speaker 5: I'm excited for that.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I have been texting.
- 5:01Speaker 2: He's got a boring year. Nothing's happening. This will be
- 5:05Speaker 2: the least exciting the Olympics. He needed something to kind
- 5:10Speaker 2: of liven up his ear a little bit.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Right, he hasn't had enough.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Right, he'll do a terrific job. I do hope that
- 5:16Speaker 2: they have, you know, some sort of large step stool
- 5:20Speaker 2: for him to stand on so you can see the podium.
- 5:22Speaker 2: But he will do a fantastic job. Fantastic Is that
- 5:26Speaker 2: how it works? So like Syracuse Syracuse.
- 5:29Speaker 5: ALAM New House alumni, they can only make fun of
- 5:32Speaker 5: each other. But if God forbid, Mike Greenberg said that
- 5:35Speaker 5: about Mike t Rico, there would be a right.
- 5:38Speaker 2: It's you know, when it comes from people from other universities,
- 5:41Speaker 2: it's just jealousy, all right. I say that to Mike
- 5:46Speaker 2: out of love. He's a dear friend, but I do love.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Like we all got together up there last fall for
- 5:51Speaker 2: the Marty Glickman Award ceremony, and it was Mike and
- 5:55Speaker 2: Iron Eagle and Marv and Bob cost this. I felt
- 6:00Speaker 2: like Wilt Chamberlain. I am five nine and a quarter
- 6:05Speaker 2: and I tower over that. So there must have been
- 6:09Speaker 2: something in the water up there that stunted our growth.
- 6:12Speaker 2: But you were broke to be in a room maternity
- 6:17Speaker 2: that you're really proudly you know. When you get up
- 6:19Speaker 2: there and Olivia says to you you're gonna be on
- 6:21Speaker 2: a panel with Marv and Bob and I an Eagle,
- 6:23Speaker 2: You're like three apples in an orange, which one of
- 6:26Speaker 2: us doesn't belong here, you know, but I'm happy to
- 6:29Speaker 2: be included.
- 6:30Speaker 3: You'll take any room in which you're the tallest person
- 6:32Speaker 3: in that.
- 6:33Speaker 2: I should say three oranges in an apple, right, yes? Yes?
- 6:38Speaker 3: So how long?
- 6:39Speaker 5: So I've been texting withinto Rico and trying to negotiate
- 6:42Speaker 5: a shorter speech.
- 6:44Speaker 2: There's no chances, there's no chance. You've seen the way
- 6:48Speaker 2: Mike prepares for everything, you know, and I've jabbed him
- 6:51Speaker 2: a few times over. There's one time he was doing
- 6:53Speaker 2: the Orange Bowl and I think it was Stanford, might
- 6:56Speaker 2: have been Jim Harboss last game at Stanford and Condoleeza Rice,
- 6:59Speaker 2: you know, faculty member, and Stanford was on the sideline.
- 7:02Speaker 2: They showed her and Mike was doing the game and
- 7:04Speaker 2: he said, there's the sixty sixth Secretary of State of
- 7:08Speaker 2: the United and who knows them? I mean, we all
- 7:11Speaker 2: barely know what number of the presidents are, and so
- 7:15Speaker 2: I en with the details. Now you're just showing off
- 7:18Speaker 2: like that's a bunch of ps, right, So he will
- 7:20Speaker 2: be very well prepared, and I would not bet on
- 7:24Speaker 2: it being brief. It'll be great, it'll be insightful, it'll
- 7:27Speaker 2: be interesting, funny, I'm sure, but I would I would
- 7:30Speaker 2: take the over on brevity.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Okay, over thirty minutes, your sir, Yeah.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Were's some comfortable clothing. Well, I don't know whatever they
- 7:38Speaker 2: told him to be. I'm sure he'll be right on
- 7:42Speaker 2: time because he's probably rehearsed it ten times to make
- 7:44Speaker 2: sure it's right on time. Yes, I do one commencement, well,
- 7:48Speaker 2: I'll two. I couldn't do the one right I was
- 7:50Speaker 2: asked to do this year, but I did one for
- 7:55Speaker 2: Southern Vermont College. I told me, we'd like you to
- 7:58Speaker 2: speak for twenty to twenty five minutes, and I'm like,
- 8:00Speaker 2: no one wants. I don't want to hear myself speak
- 8:02Speaker 2: for twenty to twenty So I got into about fifteen minutes.
- 8:07Speaker 2: And it was on this hillside in Bennington, Vermont. So
- 8:11Speaker 2: there were people that were there was a tent, and
- 8:13Speaker 2: some people were in the tent, like the president of
- 8:17Speaker 2: the school and some other people. And then but there
- 8:19Speaker 2: were a lot of people on the hillslope and I
- 8:20Speaker 2: couldn't see all of them because they went up the hill.
- 8:23Speaker 2: And I'm already thinking in my mind, this speech is
- 8:26Speaker 2: too long. I knew I shouldn't have tried to go
- 8:27Speaker 2: for twenty minutes whatever. And all of a sudden I
- 8:29Speaker 2: heard and it was a thunderstorm. There was people were
- 8:34Speaker 2: running down the hill into the tent, and I said, literally,
- 8:36Speaker 2: this is God's way of telling me this speech is
- 8:39Speaker 2: too long. Good luck, congratulations, I'm sure you'll all do Greg,
- 8:42Speaker 2: let's give them their diplomas. Done so, and then my
- 8:47Speaker 2: question to you guys is, you know I've got the
- 8:51Speaker 2: Doctor of Humane Letters. I got all the whatever you
- 8:55Speaker 2: call the outfit with the hat and the tassel, and
- 9:00Speaker 2: the college went out of business, which is probably why
- 9:05Speaker 2: I have not been invited to only one other school since.
- 9:09Speaker 2: So am I still a Doctor of Humane Letters?
- 9:13Speaker 3: Wow? For a school that doesn't exist anymore.
- 9:15Speaker 2: School that it existed at the time. Yes, I mean,
- 9:18Speaker 2: God for been Harvard went out of business, you'd still
- 9:20Speaker 2: be a Harvard grad, right, I mean that's at least
- 9:22Speaker 2: that's what I'm going with.
- 9:25Speaker 3: It's Mikey, what do you think? It's a great question.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Do you have a ruling here?
- 9:28Speaker 6: No, they can't take that away from you.
- 9:30Speaker 2: You have it, it's done, it's yours. Yeah, they can't
- 9:32Speaker 2: take that from the school. Have the hat. I'm claiming it.
- 9:39Speaker 4: You're kissing death.
- 9:40Speaker 3: But done up.
- 9:41Speaker 2: I know I put the school out of business. My
- 9:44Speaker 2: friend who had just invited me to speak at another commencement,
- 9:48Speaker 2: which I can't do because it's next weekend and we're
- 9:49Speaker 2: going to be in the middle of the hockey playoffs,
- 9:52Speaker 2: I said, I'm very honored in the interest of full disclosure.
- 9:57Speaker 2: The only school I did this for went out of business,
- 9:59Speaker 2: so I was financial health of your school. You know
- 10:02Speaker 2: that we possibly survive the fact that I'm going to
- 10:06Speaker 2: be your commencement speaker and the history is not good.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Yes, I read recently that you said you have no
- 10:13Speaker 5: plans of slowing down anytime soon, which I find amazing
- 10:16Speaker 5: considering how fast it is that you go.
- 10:19Speaker 3: So no plan. You love this so much. No plans
- 10:21Speaker 3: of slowing down anytime soon?
- 10:23Speaker 2: Huh. No, I'm sixty three. I'll be sixty four next week.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Why would you thirteenth? If your massive audience wants to
- 10:29Speaker 2: send gifts, that would be nice, you know, probably in
- 10:34Speaker 2: an envelope. My dad used to like listening to those
- 10:37Speaker 2: religious shows like the Reverend Ike, and he'd say, don't
- 10:41Speaker 2: send a postcard. You can't put money in a postcard
- 10:43Speaker 2: when you give the address if you want to support
- 10:45Speaker 2: you know, the ministry or whatever was so, Yeah, I'd
- 10:49Speaker 2: prefer envelopes. No, I'm kidding, of course, but no, I
- 10:52Speaker 2: love it. Yeah, I'm I'm in reasonably good health. I think, uh,
- 10:56Speaker 2: try to take good care of myself. No, it's uh,
- 11:00Speaker 2: I still think I'm doing my job as well as
- 11:03Speaker 2: I have. Hopefully other people feel that way, and hopefully
- 11:07Speaker 2: my bosses feel that way. The audience feels that way.
- 11:09Speaker 2: But you know, I see a lot of people who
- 11:12Speaker 2: are significantly older than me who are still doing this
- 11:15Speaker 2: and doing it at a high level. So yeah, it's fun,
- 11:19Speaker 2: and I don't know what else I do. I mean,
- 11:21Speaker 2: you know, if I play golf three or four days
- 11:23Speaker 2: in a row, I think, oh gosh, if I ever retired,
- 11:27Speaker 2: I couldn't do this. I couldn't do this twelve months
- 11:29Speaker 2: a year. I'd go crazy. So right, it's fun, right,
- 11:32Speaker 2: you know, I'm going to be in Montreal on Sunday
- 11:34Speaker 2: night doing an NHL playoff game, and the greatest venue,
- 11:38Speaker 2: one of the great sports venues in the world, really,
- 11:41Speaker 2: the Bells. I mean, the atmosphere there is crazy, and
- 11:44Speaker 2: the fan base is incredibly passionate. So why would I
- 11:47Speaker 2: want to stop doing that?
- 11:48Speaker 3: No, don't stop doing it.
- 11:50Speaker 2: You're great at it.
- 11:52Speaker 5: What are the greatest venues that you've called a game
- 11:54Speaker 5: in besides Montreal?
- 11:55Speaker 3: Like, can you think of two or three others?
- 11:57Speaker 2: Off the NHL?
- 11:58Speaker 5: Yeah, well, anywhere, I mean, Fenway is a pretty good selling.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Number one on my list. You know, I've done hundreds
- 12:06Speaker 2: of games. There been in the thousands, probably hundreds.
- 12:09Speaker 5: Anyway, are there places where you walked in and you're like,
- 12:13Speaker 5: oh my god, I can't believe I'm here, Notre Dame.
- 12:15Speaker 3: I'm just wating Notre Dame.
- 12:17Speaker 2: You know what, You're leading the witness, and you're doing
- 12:20Speaker 2: it very well, really, because I'm sitting there struggling to answer.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Notre Dame. Last year, the first college football playoff game
- 12:30Speaker 2: ever on a campus was at Notre Dame at night
- 12:33Speaker 2: when they played Indiana. It's a year ago, and you
- 12:38Speaker 2: know it, it was cold, but it's this beautiful, clear
- 12:40Speaker 2: night and it's Notre Dame and over there is the
- 12:44Speaker 2: grotto and touchdown Jesus, and you know, and I thought,
- 12:49Speaker 2: what can be cool? I mean, I'm getting goosebumps literally
- 12:51Speaker 2: right now thinking about it. Yes, you know, so, yeah,
- 12:54Speaker 2: doing a football game at Notre Dame. Especially when we
- 12:57Speaker 2: got there, I think it had been like third four
- 13:00Speaker 2: years since anybody other than NBC had televised a game
- 13:05Speaker 2: from there, because they've had the rights. It's amazing how
- 13:07Speaker 2: time flies, right, Yeah, NBC's had it for fifteen years
- 13:10Speaker 2: or so. It's like thirty something years. So unless you
- 13:13Speaker 2: worked for them, and we're lucky enough to do a
- 13:16Speaker 2: game at Notre Dame, nobody had so yeah, that would
- 13:19Speaker 2: be high in the lists. And unfortunately, unless it's another
- 13:23Speaker 2: home playoff game, we probably won't do another game there
- 13:25Speaker 2: anytime soon, as long as NBC has the rights.
- 13:27Speaker 5: Right stick outs here from my friends over at FanDuel.
- 13:31Speaker 5: Right now, new FanDuel customers can bet five dollars and

- 15:25Speaker 5: Do you feel like Buffalo has become it's weird? I
- 15:29Speaker 5: think so many people want to see the city of
- 15:31Speaker 5: Buffalo just win something. They feel so bad. So I
- 15:34Speaker 5: feel like they've become almost America's team here in hockey.
- 15:37Speaker 2: It's crazy. Yeah. I got a text message from a
- 15:39Speaker 2: friend of mine who's a big Ranger fans. Oh, the
- 15:41Speaker 2: Rangers made the playoffs. Who'shid cheer for? I'm like, well,
- 15:43Speaker 2: why not Buffalo, right? I mean fourteen years they weren't
- 15:46Speaker 2: in the playoffs, longest streak in the history of the league,
- 15:50Speaker 2: Eighteen years without between winning a playoff series. And they're
- 15:54Speaker 2: such great fans and on they love their team. You know.
- 15:57Speaker 2: I hope we get our group gets a game in Buffalo.
- 16:01Speaker 2: We haven't been there yet because T and T's had
- 16:04Speaker 2: the first two games of the series in Buffalo. So
- 16:07Speaker 2: I hope we get there because I'm dying to do
- 16:10Speaker 2: a game there. You know. I used to go there
- 16:11Speaker 2: when I was at Syracuse, the Harvard of Central New
- 16:14Speaker 2: York where you're sitting right now. A lot of my
- 16:17Speaker 2: buddies were from Central New York, Western New York. Buffalo.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Greg Papa, the great announcer for the Raiders and now
- 16:24Speaker 2: the forty nine Ers, has done a lot of other things,
- 16:27Speaker 2: and shout out to him. He was in a really
- 16:29Speaker 2: rough battle with cancer right now. We're praying for him
- 16:32Speaker 2: every day. But you know he's from He's from Buffalo,
- 16:36Speaker 2: so we us when the Bruins used to play them
- 16:38Speaker 2: in the old odd we used to drive out there
- 16:40Speaker 2: and go to some you know, really some great games
- 16:44Speaker 2: back in the day. You know, they just beat the
- 16:46Speaker 2: hell out of each other. And so I love the
- 16:49Speaker 2: people of Buffalo are great. Love going there. Really hope
- 16:52Speaker 2: that we get a chance to go. But I do think,
- 16:54Speaker 2: you know, if you don't have a rooting interest, there'll
- 16:56Speaker 2: be a lot of people picking up their banner.
- 16:59Speaker 5: Just quickly to hear what's a baseball? Were you surprised
- 17:02Speaker 5: that the Red Sox got rid of Cora.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Yes, I was, you know, especially to do it so
- 17:09Speaker 2: early in the season. And I think what surprised me
- 17:11Speaker 2: more is that they wiped out five or six coaches
- 17:14Speaker 2: with them. I mean, that's that's very hard to replace, right. Yes, Well,
- 17:20Speaker 2: let's call up the batt impact practice pitcher from Newton
- 17:23Speaker 2: South High School and see if he can come coach
- 17:25Speaker 2: their base You know, it wasn't quite like that, but
- 17:28Speaker 2: it seemed like it was, you know, so that that
- 17:32Speaker 2: surprised me, and that Jason Veritek was one of them.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Who's a you know, a franchise icon. I mean, if
- 17:37Speaker 2: you really had your touts about that many members of
- 17:39Speaker 2: the coaching staff, why did you start the season with
- 17:42Speaker 2: them right?
- 17:42Speaker 3: Why did you bring them all back?
- 17:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and especially when there's plenty of conversation here locally
- 17:48Speaker 2: about the roster construction was the biggest problem, you know,
- 17:51Speaker 2: not the managing or the coaching. And you know, there
- 17:55Speaker 2: are the people who have been chanting at the ownership
- 17:59Speaker 2: group to sell the tea team since before they fired Alex.
- 18:03Speaker 2: So yeah, I think Alex had a pretty long run
- 18:06Speaker 2: relative to most coaches and managers right in professional sports,
- 18:09Speaker 2: and particularly given that, you know, the World Series championship
- 18:13Speaker 2: was in twenty eighteen. The results since then have just
- 18:16Speaker 2: been kind of okay. So usually the manager takes the
- 18:21Speaker 2: fall for that. So in some ways I guess he
- 18:23Speaker 2: lasted longer than he might have. But yeah, the timing
- 18:25Speaker 2: of it, I think, more than anything, was surprising, and
- 18:27Speaker 2: the magnitude of it.
- 18:29Speaker 6: Sean It's said to me, as a Yankee fan, what's
- 18:31Speaker 6: become of the Red Sox? Because I missed the rivalry.
- 18:35Speaker 6: Our our executive producer was ready to say that.
- 18:38Speaker 2: I mean it was to do right now, we wouldn't
- 18:42Speaker 2: be listening to this about going somewhere with that.
- 18:45Speaker 6: I was going somewhere with it if you let me,
- 18:47Speaker 6: if you didn't interrupt.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Mett I interrupted you. No, Stu Gott's interrupted me. You
- 18:53Speaker 2: just talked.
- 18:55Speaker 6: Our Taylor, our executive producer, could not root for Roman
- 19:00Speaker 6: Anthony during the World Baseball Classic like what. He was
- 19:04Speaker 6: rooting for Team USA until Roman Anthony got up and
- 19:07Speaker 6: then he turned his back on that.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Then he became he became a Mexican.
- 19:16Speaker 5: Yes, but I imagine I do I do imagine Red
- 19:18Speaker 5: Sox fans maybe did the same thing to Aaron Judge,
- 19:20Speaker 5: like they wanted USA to win, but they didn't want
- 19:22Speaker 5: to hurt Judge would be.
- 19:23Speaker 2: The reason a hit. They wanted hit him to take
- 19:25Speaker 2: a fast all off the helmet and then to get hurt.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I don't know. I was cheering for all of them. Yes,
- 19:31Speaker 2: me too. I'm not allowed to say this, but uh
- 19:34Speaker 2: you know, I do not wish ill upon the Yankees,
- 19:38Speaker 2: because I did at least one season of Monday Night Baseball.
- 19:42Speaker 2: I think too, with Aaron Boone, who is as decent
- 19:45Speaker 2: a human being as I've ever met doing this. I
- 19:47Speaker 2: mean I've worked with over one hundred people. I think
- 19:50Speaker 2: it's one hundred and fifty different people, analysts, Sideline Report, hosts, whatever,
- 19:55Speaker 2: in all these different sports, and Aaron Boone is at
- 19:58Speaker 2: the top of the list. I mean, he is a
- 20:00Speaker 2: great guy. I think he's a really smart baseball guy.
- 20:04Speaker 2: I know Yankee fans like to dump on him, and
- 20:06Speaker 2: there's a lot of people who thought he shouldn't be
- 20:08Speaker 2: back this year, but you know, maybe this is their year.
- 20:11Speaker 2: But yeah, so I don't I don't wish any ill
- 20:14Speaker 2: upon the Yankees because I'm a huge Aaron Boone fan.
- 20:18Speaker 3: All Right, we're gonna get you here.
- 20:20Speaker 2: John Sterling, by the way, yeah, oh yes, yes, yeah.
- 20:24Speaker 5: We had Mike Francesa on talking about John Sterling and
- 20:27Speaker 5: what he meant to that fan base and just what
- 20:28Speaker 5: it's like.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Sean.
- 20:29Speaker 5: It's incredible the impact you could have, especially on a
- 20:31Speaker 5: fan base like yours. They they love John Sterling. I'm
- 20:35Speaker 5: certain Boston fans love you. But did you have any
- 20:38Speaker 5: interactions with John Sterling.
- 20:39Speaker 2: I'm sure you've certain of it over all these years.
- 20:41Speaker 2: You know, he did it for thirty six years and
- 20:43Speaker 2: I was around the Red Sox for a lot of those.
- 20:46Speaker 2: You know, he was just uh I read the word eccentric, eccentricities,
- 20:51Speaker 2: you know a lot of the articles and tributes, and
- 20:55Speaker 2: you know that's really true. You know, he was a
- 20:57Speaker 2: He was a real character in a world that is
- 20:59Speaker 2: incre singly devoid of characters. And he just always seemed
- 21:04Speaker 2: to me to be a guy who was always performing.
- 21:07Speaker 2: You know, like even in a conversation, regular conversation, you'd
- 21:11Speaker 2: be walking down the hallway in the press box and
- 21:13Speaker 2: Fenway or Yankee Stadium, and you know it was he
- 21:17Speaker 2: didn't just walk up, Hey, how you doing. It was
- 21:18Speaker 2: always hello, Shannie, you know, in that voice, and you
- 21:22Speaker 2: know it was kind of theatrical, and you know you
- 21:26Speaker 2: saw it in all the tributes the last few days.
- 21:28Speaker 2: I think everybody who knew John really appreciated him. He
- 21:32Speaker 2: had a great heart and you know, obviously a legendary career.
- 21:35Speaker 2: When they start asking out loud, should announcers be in
- 21:39Speaker 2: monument park, I think that says a lot about the
- 21:41Speaker 2: impact that he had.
- 21:43Speaker 5: We're going to get you out of here in just
- 21:44Speaker 5: a second. I know you have to go golfing.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I think you're a getting the hook. I saw you
- 21:48Speaker 2: to given like Olivia or somebody.
- 21:50Speaker 3: Well, you know, Olivia is just being patient with me.
- 21:52Speaker 5: She's making sure that we're connected to the radio station
- 21:54Speaker 5: here because I had to Oh.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Well that's important. Yes, yes, this is important, but you
- 21:59Speaker 2: have bigger fish to No.
- 22:00Speaker 5: No, I don't have bigger fish to fry. This is important, though.
- 22:03Speaker 5: The question I'm about to ask you is what's important? Okay,
- 22:05Speaker 5: Mikey knows. We started playing this game around here called
- 22:09Speaker 5: one Table. So there's one table in the restaurant, and
- 22:14Speaker 5: Tom Brady in his prime, walks in around any time,
- 22:17Speaker 5: it's Tom Brady.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Okay, I'm trying to think of the per I'm gonna go. Oh,
- 22:22Speaker 3: Mikey wants me to go Poppy, I'm gonna go Tom Brady,
- 22:25Speaker 3: Larry Bird.
- 22:27Speaker 5: They both walk in, one table is left, who gets
- 22:30Speaker 5: the table?
- 22:32Speaker 2: Uh? Now that happened today?
- 22:35Speaker 3: Yeah, well yes, today today, it's a tough one.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd say it's a really tough one. Yeah. Tom
- 22:44Speaker 2: Brady is kind of checked anybody off. Yeah, whereas you
- 22:50Speaker 2: know Tom, I don't begrudge Tom the right to leave
- 22:54Speaker 2: or you know, in some ways he was kind of
- 22:56Speaker 2: shoved out right and go win. I think he proved
- 22:59Speaker 2: this point, you know, we're talking about who was the
- 23:01Speaker 2: most important person to the Patriots success all this years,
- 23:04Speaker 2: Brady Belichick or Craft when he left and went to
- 23:07Speaker 2: Tampa Bay and won a Super Bowl? Like, okay, could
- 23:10Speaker 2: we stop having that conversation, you know, and and the
- 23:13Speaker 2: whole Belichick record with Brady without you know, at a
- 23:17Speaker 2: certain point you know that that's not a coincidence either.
- 23:20Speaker 2: So you know, I think Tom's a great guy. I
- 23:24Speaker 2: had the great pleasure of playing a lot of golf
- 23:25Speaker 2: with his dad right here at Boston Golf Club, where
- 23:30Speaker 2: his dad was a national member and much loved great
- 23:32Speaker 2: guy Tom Brady Senior. So you know, I think they
- 23:38Speaker 2: probably find a table for both of them. They probably say, hey, mcdonna,
- 23:42Speaker 2: you have to go there, both of these guys, and
- 23:46Speaker 2: I bet they'd sit together, right, because they're both a
- 23:48Speaker 2: kind of guy who probably enjoyed the hell out of
- 23:50Speaker 2: each other's company and conversation.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Yes, all right, show, we appreciate it.
- 23:55Speaker 5: As always, I'll try to keep this place intact for
- 23:57Speaker 5: you and try not to ruin anything that you guys
- 24:00Speaker 5: have created here, because it's a wonderful facility.
- 24:03Speaker 3: I don't belong here. I feel ashamed that I here.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Yes, well, clearly you didn't belong there many years ago
- 24:08Speaker 2: when you applied and didn't get in. But thank god
- 24:11Speaker 2: your daughter is really sharp and really talented. Not the
- 24:14Speaker 2: great things. And no, it's great to see you up
- 24:17Speaker 2: there and enjoy it. You know. Not only is the
- 24:19Speaker 2: New House School awesome and world renowned, but it's a
- 24:22Speaker 2: beautiful campus. You know, people think, oh, it's a city school,
- 24:25Speaker 2: and it's not a city school. It's up on that hill.
- 24:27Speaker 2: We can see the trees behind you. It was a
- 24:31Speaker 2: as important as really anything that's ever happened in my life.
- 24:33Speaker 2: We're very close to it the time that I spent there,
- 24:36Speaker 2: and it remains a very special place to me and
- 24:38Speaker 2: it always will. I'm glad you're that. Yeah, that's awesome.
- 24:41Speaker 3: My daughter's had a wonderful four years here.
- 24:43Speaker 5: It's been a great place for me my family to
- 24:46Speaker 5: come visit.
- 24:46Speaker 3: So I'm glad, and I listen. I get why you
- 24:49Speaker 3: guys love it so much. I do. Haven't come here.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Whatever people asked me, friends of mine, say, hey, my
- 24:53Speaker 2: daughter's considering going to Syracuse, my son, my nephew, whatever.
- 24:56Speaker 2: I always say, Well, I never know. I never knew
- 24:58Speaker 2: anybody who went there and didn't it, you know, and
- 25:01Speaker 2: I think we're all really proud of it and have
- 25:04Speaker 2: a great time. All right, thank you.
- 25:06Speaker 5: You're gonna listen. You're gonna have a better time. You're
- 25:08Speaker 5: golfing and eating lunch with friends. But uh, but so
- 25:10Speaker 5: you have a good time.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Okay.
- 25:12Speaker 2: I'll be one last round of golf because I think
- 25:14Speaker 2: we're really back into the hockey grind after this. You know.
- 25:17Speaker 2: We we get through the second round, then we have
- 25:19Speaker 2: a con every game of a conference final, in every
- 25:21Speaker 2: game of the Stanley Cup final, so there'll be no
- 25:23Speaker 2: more golf probably till the end of June. So we're
- 25:26Speaker 2: gonna enjoy today. You'll be okay.
- 25:29Speaker 3: We look forward to all your calls. Thank you, Sean McDonough.
- 25:31Speaker 3: We appreciate it as always my pleasure.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Thanks
