- 0:02SPEAKER_05: Hello, Dork Squad.
- 0:03SPEAKER_05: I'm Jonathan Cormer, and you're listening to Dork Tales Storytime, the podcast for kids and their pop culture loving grown-ups.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: It's a beautiful day for a story, adventuring glory, new friends and old ones too.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: It's an excellent day to get swept away in a tale, so let us regale you!
- 0:35SPEAKER_06: Reg Jonathan, thank goodness you're home.
- 0:39SPEAKER_05: Well, I'm home.
- 0:42SPEAKER_05: Reg doesn't live here.
- 0:44SPEAKER_05: Not technically.
- 0:45SPEAKER_05: Hey, just because you nap on the couch enough to have your own pillow doesn't mean oh never mind.
- 0:51SPEAKER_05: Sherlock Nettlesby! Uh, to what do we owe the pleasure of you at my door this afternoon?
- 0:59SPEAKER_05: It's not pleasant news, I'm afraid.
- 1:03SPEAKER_05: Oh goodness.
- 1:04SPEAKER_05: Another mystery, I presume.
- 1:07SPEAKER_06: Precisely!
- 1:08SPEAKER_05: But this one hits too close to home.
- 1:11SPEAKER_05: How close?
- 1:13SPEAKER_05: Yes, and where's your trusty companion, John Wabbitson?
- 1:19SPEAKER_05: That's precisely what it is!
- 1:21SPEAKER_06: Wabbitson is missing.
- 1:24SPEAKER_06: Oh no! Gas! And I'm simply frantic about it! I can't keep my thoughts straight, which you know is highly unusual for me.
- 1:35SPEAKER_06: Inconceivable.
- 1:37SPEAKER_06: I figured it would be best to ask you two for assistance.
- 1:42SPEAKER_05: To take on the role of Co-Chief Gumshoes with you?
- 1:46SPEAKER_05: It'd be a dream.
- 1:49SPEAKER_05: And uh we'd retrieve Wabbitson, of course.
- 1:54SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 1:55SPEAKER_05: We'll help you however we can, Sherlock.
- 1:58SPEAKER_05: How can we start?
- 1:59SPEAKER_05: Let's head back to my nest.
- 2:02SPEAKER_05: I've got some fresh acorns to share for lunch, and uh we can start sniffing for clues.
- 2:07SPEAKER_05: Well, lead us there, Sherlock.
- 2:10SPEAKER_05: Let's get sniffin'.
- 2:12SPEAKER_05: Great! Let's leap to the treetops! Wow, Sherlock! I didn't know you meant uh literally leaping that much.
- 2:31SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 2:32SPEAKER_05: After this case, oh, my calves will certainly burn.
- 2:36SPEAKER_05: You do really jump to it, Sherlock.
- 2:39SPEAKER_05: What can I say?
- 2:40SPEAKER_05: I'm a squirrel! Leaping's in my nature.
- 2:45SPEAKER_05: So wow, I guess I've never been in a squirrel's nest before.
- 2:49SPEAKER_05: You know, I've seen some of them for my walks, but not the inside.
- 2:54SPEAKER_05: It's real cozy.
- 2:55SPEAKER_05: Yes, larger than one might assume.
- 2:59SPEAKER_05: On the inside So, Sherlock, what's different here?
- 3:14SPEAKER_05: Is anything out of place?
- 3:16SPEAKER_05: We should turn over every leaf.
- 3:18SPEAKER_05: Leaf, no leaf unturned.
- 3:21SPEAKER_04: Nope, yep.
- 3:23SPEAKER_04: This one, no, nothing on here.
- 3:25SPEAKER_04: Nope, this nope, this nope, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, ah, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 3:33SPEAKER_04: Hold on, Reg.
- 3:34SPEAKER_05: Let's go about this, uh methodically.
- 3:38SPEAKER_05: Indeed, my usual tactic, Jonathan, but I just can't think straight with Wabbitson in danger.
- 3:46SPEAKER_05: Well, we don't know that he is yet, Sherlock.
- 3:49SPEAKER_05: I promise we'll find him.
- 3:51SPEAKER_05: Now, you were on the right track, Reg, but leaving no leaf, or leafing no leaf, unturned in a squirrel's nest is a bit like counting sand on the beach.
- 4:04SPEAKER_05: We'll be here for days.
- 4:06SPEAKER_06: It would help if Wabiton were simply to return.
- 4:10SPEAKER_06: Oh, I do miss him.
- 4:12SPEAKER_06: He usually leaves a note.
- 4:14SPEAKER_05: Something serious must be afoot.
- 4:16SPEAKER_05: Well, we'll keep raking through all these clues.
- 4:21SPEAKER_05: We don't have enough time or enough rakes! What if something terrible happened to Wabiton?
- 4:28SPEAKER_05: You keep mentioning this.
- 4:31SPEAKER_05: Could something terrible have happened?
- 4:33SPEAKER_06: Well, if it did, I know exactly who's behind the nefarious act.
- 4:39SPEAKER_06: Who?
- 4:41SPEAKER_06: James More Eel Arti.
- 4:45SPEAKER_06: More Eel Artie?
- 4:48SPEAKER_06: Yes! My fishy nemesis.
- 4:51SPEAKER_06: He's a rotten nut if ever I saw one.
- 4:53SPEAKER_06: Always escaping in a plume of ink with his squiddy cronies.
- 4:58SPEAKER_05: Well, More Eel Arti lives in the lake, right?
- 5:03SPEAKER_05: That's where his lair is, yes.
- 5:06SPEAKER_05: But the leaves in your home, they're all dry.
- 5:11SPEAKER_05: Very clever of More Eel Arti to bring a tarp.
- 5:17SPEAKER_05: Well.
- 5:18SPEAKER_06: Ah yes! Ah yes! That's precisely what it must have been, Reg.
- 5:23SPEAKER_06: A tarp.
- 5:26SPEAKER_06: Uh when he kidnapped Rabbitson!
- 5:30SPEAKER_05: The Slithering Fiend.
- 5:33SPEAKER_05: Don't you think you're leaping?
- 5:34SPEAKER_05: We must leap into the lake and investigate.
- 5:38SPEAKER_05: Oh, friends, let's just take a second to.
- 5:40SPEAKER_06: You're right! I don't know where my head is today.
- 5:43SPEAKER_06: Thanks, Reg.
- 5:45SPEAKER_06: To the lake!
- 5:48SPEAKER_05: Uh, listen, friends.
- 5:49SPEAKER_05: I know we're hot on the trail, but maybe cold and slimy on the trail when it comes to Morail Arti, Jonathan.
- 6:00SPEAKER_06: A good one! Oh how can I laugh?
- 6:03SPEAKER_06: It's such a worrisome time as this.
- 6:05SPEAKER_06: Wabbitson must be somewhere hungry as can be.
- 6:09SPEAKER_06: Hungry?
- 6:11SPEAKER_06: He left all his carrots at my nest.
- 6:13SPEAKER_06: He never goes anywhere without a bushel.
- 6:16SPEAKER_06: A whole bushel?
- 6:18SPEAKER_05: And look, in the sand leading to the lake.
- 6:21SPEAKER_05: A clue.
- 6:23SPEAKER_05: What?
- 6:24SPEAKER_05: That line in the sand?
- 6:26SPEAKER_05: Precisely.
- 6:28SPEAKER_05: Oh! It could have been drawn by Morael Arty's slithering henchman.
- 6:33SPEAKER_05: They drew it.
- 6:35SPEAKER_05: As they dragged him under the water.
- 6:38SPEAKER_06: That's Morail Arty.
- 6:41SPEAKER_06: How could you?
- 6:44SPEAKER_06: Gasp!
- 6:45SPEAKER_05: We solved it! Now, wait a minute.
- 6:48SPEAKER_05: Okay, let's leap one more time.
- 6:50SPEAKER_05: To the depths of the lake! Okay, I'm no swimmer, but I'm ready to do it for Wabitzin.
- 6:56SPEAKER_05: Righto! Let's bring him back! Friends, stop! I fear you're leaping Precisely! To conclusions.
- 7:06SPEAKER_05: Jonathan?
- 7:07SPEAKER_05: Whatever good you mean.
- 7:09SPEAKER_05: Well, you said you thought it was More Ilarty, right, Sherlock?
- 7:14SPEAKER_05: Precisely.
- 7:16SPEAKER_05: Righto.
- 7:17SPEAKER_05: So who's that swimming towards us now?
- 7:22SPEAKER_03: Moreti! And my squid cronies.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: Squish and Squirt Squid Howl, Squid Howl, Squin Howl, Squin Howl.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: Squid How Squid How.

- 8:55SPEAKER_05: But it Doesn't Mean We Found Any Clues.
- 8:58SPEAKER_05: Oh, Come Now.
- 8:59SPEAKER_05: Some of our Leaps Were Helpful.
- 9:02SPEAKER_05: We Foem Yes, And even Though We Didn't Find Any Carrots, We Dule Out More Ilati.
- 9:11SPEAKER_05: That's a Start.
- 9:13SPEAKER_05: But we Gotta Stop Leaping To Conclusion.
- 9:16SPEAKER_05: I know it Feight In the M, But We need to Follow Real Evidence The Things We Can Touch, Smell, See, And Hear.
- 9:26SPEAKER_05: I get it.
- 9:27SPEAKER_05: We must go with things like the sand, the time of day, maybe even over here.
- 9:33SPEAKER_05: I see some reeds I can look through.
- 9:36SPEAKER_05: Yes, we can look at what's around us.
- 9:39SPEAKER_05: Like the furry paw prints of Wabison!
- 9:45SPEAKER_04: I John Wabbison in the fur, that's me.
- 9:50SPEAKER_05: But I thought you were missing! Kidnapped! And we just figured out it wasn't More Yolarte.
- 9:57SPEAKER_05: Sherlock! Didn't you see my note?
- 10:01SPEAKER_05: No.
- 10:03SPEAKER_06: You left a note?
- 10:05SPEAKER_05: Oh yes.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: I left Sherlock a note.
- 10:10SPEAKER_06: Well, I was just so worried.
- 10:14SPEAKER_05: I must have blown off your desk as you blusted about, my friend.
- 10:17SPEAKER_05: Or maybe after you whipped through my office announcing something about needing to go get tea poured?
- 10:26SPEAKER_05: Huh?
- 10:27SPEAKER_02: Oh Sherlock, you weren't listening.
- 10:30SPEAKER_02: I said to you, in both the note and as I was leaving, see you in a few days.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: I'm going to the seashore.
- 10:40SPEAKER_05: Well, now I feel really silly.
- 10:43SPEAKER_05: That's all right, mate.
- 10:45SPEAKER_05: I uh egged you on.
- 10:47SPEAKER_05: Leaping like a squirrel.
- 10:50SPEAKER_05: Leaping to conclusions, as Jonathan kept saying.
- 10:55SPEAKER_05: You heard me?
- 10:57SPEAKER_05: Oh yes.
- 10:58SPEAKER_05: But I think it was a lesson we needed to learn ourselves.
- 11:02SPEAKER_05: No matter how much you tell it to us, we needed to have first paw experience in the pitfall of making assumptions.
- 11:12SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 11:13SPEAKER_05: It could have ended dangerously.
- 11:15SPEAKER_05: Sometimes it's really hard not to assume the worst and get lost in worry.
- 11:20SPEAKER_05: So I understand.
- 11:22SPEAKER_05: It was really smart to seek out your friends who could help you think things through.
- 11:27SPEAKER_06: Yes, now that my mind is a little calmer, and I have my wits again, I can say we weren't really following the evidence.
- 11:37SPEAKER_05: In fact, we were letting our anxiety make it up.
- 11:41SPEAKER_05: To appear worse than it really was.
- 11:44SPEAKER_05: And I've been safe in my aunt's home the entire time, knitting and eating cinnamon rolls.
- 11:51SPEAKER_06: Now, I truly do feel silly.
- 11:54SPEAKER_06: How do I avoid feeling that anxious when we're next apart, Wabbitzen?
- 11:59SPEAKER_05: First things first, remember to look for the notes I leave.
- 12:03SPEAKER_06: Might I suggest a paperweight next time?
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: Aye, fair play, Sherlock.
- 12:10SPEAKER_05: But also, you can start to recognize when your brain might be leaping a little too quickly into a scary place before it guides you to make frantic choices.
- 12:19SPEAKER_05: And if it's too hard not to get lost in your worries, you already did the best thing you can possibly do.
- 12:25SPEAKER_05: You asked for help.
- 12:27SPEAKER_06: Thank you, friends, for your assistance today.
- 12:30SPEAKER_05: You are truly excellent co-detectives.
- 12:35SPEAKER_05: And we'll always be here to show you the evidence that sometimes worries are nettle they're cracked up to be.
- 12:45SPEAKER_05: Oh, good one, Reg! Well, at least we didn't get to do a scuffle with More Larty.
- 12:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that was a close one.
- 12:54SPEAKER_06: Now that we've cracked the case, does anyone want to come back to my nest for some acorn soup?
- 13:00SPEAKER_06: No leaf investigation required.
- 13:03SPEAKER_06: Oh yes.
- 13:04SPEAKER_06: I do, I do! Can mine be carrot soup?
- 13:08SPEAKER_06: What did I tell you?
- 13:09SPEAKER_06: He loves those carrots! Good to have you back home, old chum!
