- 0:18Turner glor Podcast, Broncos five and three. Guys, we are on a
- 0:23three game winning streak. Hunters are Berniki, Austin, Rose, Dakota Free
- 0:29Tag. This is a October full of wins no losses for the first time
- 0:35since two thousand and two, which they haven't had a an undefeated October since
- 0:46two thousand and two. Wow, that's impressively played three times as October.
- 0:55There is a lot to talk about with this game, but guys, we're
- 1:00gonna go back to it. The most important thing is winning. And yeah,
- 1:04those stats are fun to throw out there and you know, show where
- 1:10we're at. But bottom line is we've won five of our last six Behinder
- 1:14Cardboard as our starting quarterback, and we've played some teams. I'm just gonna
- 1:22leave it at that, like you might say they're bad, but we are
- 1:23winning football games. We are putting together a stretch of games in Austin.
- 1:30I just noticed your new facial haircut. Oh yeah, I didn't even notice
- 1:38that I have ho Yeah, I just I'm like, wait, is like,
- 1:48hold on, did you do that or what? Yep? That's there's
- 1:53just just yeah, that's exactly what happened. The frustration of plucking out beard
- 1:57hairs every time we fumbled the football. You know, if the world would
- 2:04be a better place if more men had mutton chops, you know, well,
- 2:07I wish I could grow anything, So I better get to that point
- 2:10first. And uh, okay, Dak, you already brought up the fumbles
- 2:20before we get into some of the disturbing stuff here and including the Oklahoma lost
- 2:25to Kansas. Wait what huh? They lost? I gotta say how great
- 2:32our defense is, guys, I really do. I think this week it
- 2:38hit me Perdue's offense was maybe supposed to be a little better. It wasn't
- 2:42gonna be a the best one we've seen, but we knew they had some
- 2:46athletes. We knew that, yeah, weather was gonna be a little chillier,
- 2:49but there was no wetness out there. We came out there. Guys,
- 2:53our defense is actually good, and I think we've held up on really
- 2:59going over the top on that. But like, seriously, Perdue's offense did
- 3:05not score, did not put together one drive, and it didn't even look
- 3:08like they could. They scored two touchdowns obviously the fumble return, and then
- 3:14their other run was off of a fumble short field that they went down and
- 3:17scored late in the game. They're legit. Our defense is legit. And
- 3:23Tony White is a dude. He knows what the hell he's doing. And
- 3:27I think, again, we know this, but this is the first week
- 3:29that I'm like, oh my god, Like I just think back of our
- 3:31last few games. These teams cannot even put together a drive. They get
- 3:35a first down, I'm like, okay, like so what not only that?
- 3:39Like, I mean, these teams have not had bad field position.
- 3:44I mean we've fumbled the ball plenty of times on our side of the fifty
- 3:47yard line and they cannot get anything going. Yeah, watching that game when
- 3:54they had the ball, I was I would have been surprised if they scored
- 3:58like I thought there was every time they had the balls, zero shout of
- 4:00them scoring anything. It was both say Bo Rude and Nick Baye listen to
- 4:05those guys a lot, and they had a great analogy this week. They
- 4:09thought was really funny. But they said, our offense is like a newborn
- 4:13or a child, and our defense is the parents. And our offense just
- 4:15goes out and shoots their pants and pukes, and the parents are always there
- 4:20to clean them up and take care of them and try to help them learn
- 4:24from their mistake, but ultimately they can't figure it out because they're too young,
- 4:27they don't know what they're doing. So I like that thought because it's
- 4:31true, right, It's not like our offense is doing anything to help the
- 4:36defense at all. In fact, they're hurting them just like they have in
- 4:40previous years, but it's so not noticeable because of what our defense does.
- 4:44And if you look at our games and how they're going, are they what
- 4:47we call pretty wins? Like, no, they're not. Even if we
- 4:50would have been up twenty four to nothing in one, Like, there's still
- 4:54a lot of just puke that that goes on, but it goes unnoticed or
- 5:01a little bit under the radar because of how good our defense is. It's
- 5:04because our defense goes out and just says, nope, like I don't care
- 5:08what just happened. We're gonna go out and it's first and ten from the
- 5:12thirty five, and we're gonna get a stop. And they do such a
- 5:15great job of that. I had to do that at the top here,
- 5:17guys, because that that is ultimately, like, ultimately the reason why we
- 5:23are five and three right now and feeling very good about Nebraska football. Best
- 5:28we've had Austin probably since we started doing the podcast. But definitely that is
- 5:31the reason why it is our defense and solely our defense and Tony White and
- 5:35what they've done. There aren't a lot of five win teams out there minus
- 5:41ten for turnover margin. Yeah, I'm really where we rank in the turnover
- 5:49margin. The offense moved the ball decently yesterday. I I thought they looked
- 5:58all right on offense besides the turnovers, which we'll we'll get into that,
- 6:01but I didn't I didn't think it looked terrible on the offensive side. Yeah.
- 6:11I think we we have an identity right and and what we're trying to
- 6:15do. We're still before sorry, in six out of one hundred and thirty
- 6:24teams for turnover margin. There you go. So there are four teams worse
- 6:30there, team than the Temple Army POI and we're tired of Arizona State.
- 6:36Yeah, that that clearly is the big issue. The offense. They can
- 6:44do some decent things, but we are so banged up. We talked about
- 6:46how we only had two upper classmen starting this week. Jeff Simms, you
- 6:54not even going to mention that name yet, we we do some decent things
- 7:00at times and offense, but we just don't quite yet know how to look
- 7:06like a good offense because anytime we get a little sense of that, we
- 7:11turn it over, we put it on the ground, or maybe it's not
- 7:14even the play, it's the design what we're trying to do. So yeah,
- 7:19Dak, I think I see what you're saying. But it's still not
- 7:23good. But again, it doesn't matter if we're winning games, doesn't really
- 7:27matter at this point, at this point in the year, this season,
- 7:30how well how our offense is performing, I guess moving forward, yeah,
- 7:33it needs to be better. But right now, let's say our defense is
- 7:40ranked by yards per game thirteenth in the country. We give up just under
- 7:46nineteen points yard per game, nineteen points per game, which probably looks to
- 7:48be somewhere in the top twenty, and we are fifth in rushing yard spring
- 7:54game. So luckily, Yeah, like I said, our offense doesn't have
- 8:00to do a whole lot. You just have to score more than nineteen points.
- 8:01And I don't know what that stat would be if we removed our Michigan
- 8:07game where we gave up forty five. Yeah, true, that Michigan game
- 8:13It's very easy just to block that out and say it is what it is.
- 8:16But it did happen, and you did happen. It might not happen
- 8:20in the record books though after this year. You're right, Dak, you
- 8:26are right, all right. Next topic here I want to jump into.
- 8:30I want to ask you guys a question. So I also thought this was
- 8:33interesting, which I gotta make sure I phrase this right. Which team would
- 8:43win between the twenty twenty one Nebraska team in this one? Like which team
- 8:50is better the best three team in the history of college football, the best
- 8:54three and nineteen in the history of college football? Just to remind you,
- 8:58we have ad Adrian was our quarterback. We had Ramier yant Step at running
- 9:07back. Toure was a beast, Austin Allen Tighten, Omar Manning, bets
- 9:13Levi Falk on the offensive end. Defensively, Hendrich was a freshman and so
- 9:16was Rymer. Those two guys lesson tackles. But Jojo Doman Nelson, Cam
- 9:20Taylor Burrett, dis Mute, Connor Colt kicking kicking for us? Like,
- 9:28what's your take on that? Like this year's team or twenty twenty one's team.
- 9:33Tick in the coaching staff on this year's team. Yep, that team
- 9:37would find a way. They'd probably get up that twenty twenty twenty one team,
- 9:41they'd find a way to lose the game. Which defense you think is
- 9:48better that team or this team? Oh? This team for sure? Agreed?
- 9:54Was I thought that year's defense is pretty damn good. Though, Uh
- 10:03it wasn't bad. We're still three and eight. The offense wasn't necessarily bad
- 10:09that year. Our offense actually did all right. It was the coaching staff
- 10:13that was a whole thing about the three and eight team. It was we
- 10:16had the talent to win every game, but we lost every game because we
- 10:20just couldn't get over that hump. And I don't think that was a talent
- 10:22thing. Yeah, So that's the point, right. I think you give
- 10:26us those players just their skill level, right because I think the second part
- 10:31of that is their mindset of winning and the intangible piece there that comes with
- 10:35football players. You get that with this staff. I think we look very
- 10:43different on offense this year as well. I mean, we'd take Adrian Martinez
- 10:48and a heartbeat right now. I believe like even with the system and style
- 10:52were running, that that would be great for this offense. We take a
- 10:56Samurai tour in a heartbeat, right now, have someone a playmaker like that,
- 11:01but we don't. But it goes back to answer the question of winning,
- 11:05right and yeah, that team might have been good, but they would
- 11:09have found a way to act. They would have found a way to lose.
- 11:11Like you said, something would have happened where we would have lost.
- 11:15And this year's team understands that value and how to do that for a four
- 11:20quarter game for the most part, and would have found a way to beat
- 11:24that team. So all these others, you know, it sounds like we're
- 11:28bearing the offense. We were six for eleven for passes. I mean that's
- 11:31a pretty good you know, I can't believe we only completed six passes.
- 11:37I mean, that's Iowa shit right there. Man. To win a game
- 11:41with six completions and eleven times, I'm taking that. I'm taking every single
- 11:46bit I want Iowa's offense right now. I want every single bit of what
- 11:50we're doing right now. As long as we're winning games, I could care
- 11:54less. I agree. I can't believe we spent I have one taking a
- 11:58deep shot like that. Yeah. True. What I do hope is that
- 12:03we are continuing to learn from the hiccups that we're in that we're seeing.
- 12:09Right when you're winning, it's very not very easy, but at times you
- 12:16tend to look over stuff if you're not being too close attention to detail on
- 12:20why certain things are happening in the game that aren't going your way. But
- 12:26when you're up twenty four to nothing with ten minutes to go, and you
- 12:28just in a game that was a pick um game and you're just kicking produce
- 12:33ass, it probably is pretty easy to say, man, we are we're
- 12:37rolling now. And I want to jump right into that conversation because when that
- 12:41field goal goes in from Albano twenty four to nothing, the world seemed great.
- 12:48I believe we had a ninety nine point nine win percentage, and then
- 12:54what just happened after that that was a real rough sequence. Then that ten
- 13:00to seven minute mark, there's two really bad minutes of just unfortunate comedy of
- 13:07errors. But I don't know. I wasn't ever worried about us losing the
- 13:15game because up twenty four to nothing with under ten minutes to go, just
- 13:20possession wise, I wasn't super worried about it, but gosh, it was
- 13:24nice to not lose that game that felt like it could have been a game
- 13:28we would have lost last year. It hit me at one point it did,
- 13:31and that's why I brought it up. Was and that's because of the
- 13:35way we've been scarred over the past few years with losing. But that whole
- 13:41time, I'm like, literally, run the ball three times. If we
- 13:45get a first down, awesome if we all on the ball, because their
- 13:48offense isn't moving ball on us, like we weren't doing the on site kick
- 13:54kill shot that Scott frosted. But it did kind of feel like it like
- 13:58we were like, oh, we're ahead, Like who cares, We're just
- 14:01trying to prove something and show Like that's what it felt like a little bit.
- 14:03Instead of just saying, you know what, go home twenty four to
- 14:07nothing. That would have been an ass whoopen and everybody would have went home
- 14:09saying wow. But instead everyone went home being like, wow, we almost
- 14:15threw that away even though he really did it, but he really didn't,
- 14:18but you had that feeling it was. It was fumble. After Harberg goes
- 14:22down, they go down and score in comes Jeff Sims. For whatever reason,
- 14:33apparently Harberg had a bunch of blood on his face and got from that
- 14:37big hit right before he fumbled. And at the time I'm like, okay,
- 14:41like maybe you know, it's not really garbage time, but it kind
- 14:43of is. And we're kind of still ahead. And then comes Jeff Simms
- 14:46and runs four plays and one of them catches it turns the wrong way.
- 14:52The other one weren't shotgun snapped. Sim's a guy in motion, one that
- 14:56the ball drills the guy in motion almost did it again. And then third
- 15:01you fumble it and throw a ball up in the air so the other team
- 15:03can just catch it and go feel bad for the guy. I really do,
- 15:07yeah, really, And we shouldn't have even we should have been punting.
- 15:11It's one of those things where you look, it's like why we I
- 15:13thought we should have punted it. Anyways, I don't think we should have
- 15:16gone for it on fourth and ones, like just pin them deep and are
- 15:20just that's all. That's what we need to do, is just rely on
- 15:24the defense. But it's just funny you talk about those two minutes because it's
- 15:28a game we won. We were up twenty four zero, we won thirty
- 15:31one fourteen, But there were two times in the game where I just felt
- 15:35sick of like not sick, but like, ugh, this could be a
- 15:41bad game. It was the first five minutes of the game it was really
- 15:45rough, and then again those two minutes. Normally you don't have that when
- 15:50you're winning by twenty four to nothing, but or your a five win team.
- 15:56It was just weird. It was a weird game. It felt still
- 15:58good, and Dak, I'm gonna let you go on. Jeff Simms,
- 16:02I know you're just like building dog get brought up. It just didn't it
- 16:10didn't seem like anything was needed to be done there on. I mean even
- 16:12Harbord's possession, like just run it and kick, just punnet. Like you
- 16:18hear me. You probably heard me say that if anybody was sitting around me.
- 16:21Hear me saying just run and punt, run it and punt, Like
- 16:23I don't care running punnet. That's all that we need to do in those
- 16:26situations to get out of there with a self satisfying win. But Dak,
- 16:32I know you have thoughts on Jeff Simms, just let's just hear him.
- 16:36Well, the first the first thing is either Harbor or Sims. When you
- 16:40got not twenty four, oh, you would have been better to actually kneel
- 16:42the ball. Everything will play on the way out there you go trying to
- 16:48run in place. But Si Sims just it just topped off everything I've said
- 16:53right there, that was that was a chef's kiss right there. You know,
- 16:57he's not transferring anywhere. That loves him and like team loves him,
- 17:06but he's not gonna go. He can't transfer anywhere and play like. That's
- 17:10not going to happen. He can't. He can't blame on our snap for
- 17:12you the rest of the year, no, no shot. What's scary is
- 17:17that if Harber does happen to get hurt, it probably is him, right.
- 17:22The The thing with Jeff Simms and we kind of I kind of said
- 17:27this early on when things were going like and it just confirms everything. He
- 17:32is just a nervous wreck in his brain constantly. I mean, think about
- 17:36after what happened and we're all like, okay, and I bad take here.
- 17:41We need to find a way to get Jeff Simms to use his athleticism
- 17:44on the field and find a way to use him to make plays be a
- 17:47little bit dynamic on offense. Right. I don't want that. I think
- 17:52he is so messed up in the head from a nervous anxiety just freakish standpoint
- 17:56that we don't want he got since it's turnovers and he got benched or hurt,
- 18:03but benched. He's been in for two series both of a turnover,
- 18:08like the one thing you cannot do because this is your problem, like literally
- 18:12go take three knees and funt it like you said, like just don't turn
- 18:17it over. And he's done it both. I don't get how he's not
- 18:22holding on that ball for his life, doesn't worry about where he has to
- 18:25go, just holding on that ball for his life in that moment, just
- 18:27like I can't fumble here. But he helped. He threw He threw it
- 18:32up perfect too to the other team, like it was a it was it
- 18:36was not gonna lie I was. I was kind of cheer when that happened.
- 18:37But that's but yeah, I don't know. Was that was that wide
- 18:47receiver that caught the deep ass? Was he a freshman too? Yeah?
- 18:49So so you're two wide receivers starting now a freshman. Jaylen Lloyd's a freshman,
- 18:55Jaden DAWs is a freshman. I don't think ty Han's a freshman.
- 18:57Malcui, No guys a freshmen. It's the young dudes. And to that
- 19:04long touchdown pass and relating this back to the fumbling, I saw something as
- 19:11he was walking into the end zone that it just made me smile. He
- 19:15put as he was crossing the goal line, he put two hands over the
- 19:18ball in case someone was gonna come behind and swipe at it. And I
- 19:22was like, huh. Someone coached him to tell him, m hmm,
- 19:26this situation, this is what you do. Here's the problem. For some
- 19:30reason, our guys that have the ball in their hands ninety percent of the
- 19:33time can't figure that out. And we saw another fumble by our running back
- 19:38this week. You start the game and I whatever, Garrett Snodgrass, I
- 19:45get it. You don't carry the ball. The ball's not in your hands
- 19:47very often. But it almost has to be a thing program wide that you
- 19:52are telling everybody who regardless, Tell your kicker, tell everybody, Like when
- 19:56someone is coming to tackle you right now, it's not about trying to break
- 20:00a tackle and make another guy missed. Your job is to not fumble the
- 20:03football, like two hands on it and put put your legs on and cradle
- 20:11it and just slide I don't know, but don't fumble the ball, Dak.
- 20:15What is your new drill because apparently punching it the ball doesn't work.
- 20:18What's your new drill for? If you fumble in the game, you gotta
- 20:26run five miles every single day? I don't know. I just I just
- 20:33ran one. But that's what they should be doing, is the Is there
- 20:38a reason that's the punishment? What for running miles five miles? Uh?
- 20:45Yeah, there's shout out, shout out couple of weeks for that one.
- 20:49Anyway, if you fumble in the game, you gotta make him run laps
- 20:55or do something. Just make their Monday hell because because then the like I
- 20:57won't ever do that again. You got to make like their weak health they
- 21:02found on a game like how make it hell weak? Ideally you're you're deep
- 21:07enough that when someone fumbles you can bench them. But we're not deep enough.
- 21:12Oh how did you? How do you guys think your own line played?
- 21:18Honestly, you guys, order it was better. I mean, it
- 21:21wasn't great, but it was better than I thought it was gonna be.
- 21:25Pretty guys, I thought it looked pretty good. It was solid and you
- 21:30know Purdue right coract and produce known or their coaches known for their defense,
- 21:38right, And I get it. It's his first year, so there's still
- 21:42progress that needs to be made on that their end. But our offensive line
- 21:45did did a fair job for the injuries. That was one thing that hit
- 21:49me before the game, and I said it on on the rail yard pod,
- 21:52like I was like, crap, but our offensive line could actually struggle
- 21:57today and we could be getting sacked. We could be, you know,
- 22:02bumbling it. But I guess if we only throw it eleven times, like
- 22:06your chances of getting sacked aren't great. So that's also good. I really
- 22:11do think after the first quarter, like the first quarter was kind of not
- 22:15great, but I do think the rest is we did all right. Yeah,
- 22:19I mean a guy I want to give a shout out to and not
- 22:23quite a returner to glory, but very well could be here in the coming
- 22:27weeks. But justin Evans Jenkins, red shirt freshman comes in. We weren't
- 22:33sure exactly who was starting on our offensive line with these injuries, but comes
- 22:37in at left guard, says it on the big board. I'm like,
- 22:41I don't know who that is, but all right, that guy, like,
- 22:45shout out to him. For doing what he did. I don't I
- 22:47can't tell you. He did like awesome on the line, but he didn't
- 22:51do anything bad to where we're like, oh my god, like we didn't.
- 22:55End of the game, you know, right, should say name his
- 22:59number? What was me? I did see after the game, I went
- 23:03down to kind of the tunnel area where they walk out, and I just
- 23:04kind of caught his number. I was, you know, not a boy
- 23:07way to fill in this week, and he like stopped as he was walking
- 23:10the locker turning around, gave me a fist bump, like like a guy
- 23:14like that again, think about it. He is an eighteen year old,
- 23:15nineteen year old kid that gets thrown in, probably had a great week of
- 23:19practice. I'm sure gets thrown in to play Memorial Stadium. It gets Purdue
- 23:22big ten game. He goes in and does his job what he needs to
- 23:26do. Like so again, shout out to a guy like that in our
- 23:29offensive line for holding their own and doing a solid job. I agree,
- 23:36other guy. There were a couple of moments where I was like that guy,
- 23:40Quentin Newsome when he jumped on that fumble, the fumbled kickoff that Purdue
- 23:45is like pointing down and for sure they have it. I was like,
- 23:48way to keep playing the ball, like there's no reason he needed to be
- 23:52down there looking for the football because we shouldn't have fumbled it. And then
- 23:56freaking Tommy Hill got boy Scout Frost turned that man into a receiver and he
- 24:03had two picks in one game. Now, he did have that really dumb
- 24:06where he recovered or he returned the punt where he's like, why did you
- 24:10return that point? You should fair cut that or not touched it at all.
- 24:14But he knew he was catching that. You knew when that ball was
- 24:18coming down to Tommy. Tommy Hill goes, oh, this is mine.
- 24:22That is exactly what I thought. I was like, dude, that do
- 24:26not run that ball. But I thought it was hilarious. Then it was
- 24:32later in the game when Purdue was punting that and he probably couldn't see this
- 24:37on TV. I don't remember who was back there. One of our safeties
- 24:41dropped back there for the punt and Tommy Hill tried changing with him, like
- 24:45it was one of those situations where Perdue was down, so he didn't know
- 24:48if they were really going to punt or if they should so they might go
- 24:51for it. So he's want to keep your first team depense in the field.
- 24:53So they were. But then once he realized they were punting, the
- 24:56safety kind of dropped back and Tommy Hill was like, oh, nope,
- 24:59that's me. I'm going. He took off the run back there in the
- 25:02safety goes, no, you stay up there. Oh it's funny. It
- 25:06killed me. Oh man, good for him. Nice. He came back
- 25:12and he's playing defense like you should have been playing the whole time. That
- 25:17his one interception that he that he had, he caught it, and he
- 25:21looked like expecting he had all these blockers, like a kickoff return, no
- 25:25one there. Oh boy. We're like, Tommy, go that way,
- 25:29go that way. He's like, oh, I don't have any blockers.
- 25:33Got that? Oh I love it. Gotta love Tommy Hill. Gotta love
- 25:38it. Great job. Oh and him high fiving with on the return thirteen
- 25:45yards. They're like like little kids at a playground, like at each other.
- 25:49Yes, it's fun. It's fun when we're winning, and it looks
- 25:53like they're having fun too. It's fun. I'll tell you one thing.
- 26:00Ben Hark has to be the most improved player in the nation. He was
- 26:04the worst player I've ever saw in my life last year and now he's actually
- 26:08he's actually decent. Yeah good. Yeah, I don't know why he did
- 26:12this off season. Might need to test him, but we'll see. But
- 26:17anyways, donnro Ola man, he is the one holdover for the coaching staff
- 26:21and all the linemen freaking love him. And I will say last year we
- 26:26were last year we were impressed by offensive line, but that was his first
- 26:30year. Year two, I would say we've seen some progress. It's solid.
- 26:33Yeah, I mean I would have never thought I'd ever say this,
- 26:37but I feel bad for it Eth the Viper and being he was another one
- 26:45of those guys that was absolutely horrible a couple of years ago that was playing
- 26:48for Frost and and yeah, I guess you know they're young guys, but
- 26:51that speaks to the development and coaching that Donnie can do with on the offensive
- 26:56line and rule in the entire staff as well. But these guys are getting
- 27:00better and and that that's what matters. Right. Offensive linemen are not the
- 27:04hottest commodity in the transfer portal. You're probably not going to pick up five
- 27:08new guys every year. If you're Dion Sanders, you're you knowing, yes,
- 27:17you can't get find it. Travis Hunter though his freaking quote about like
- 27:22the line's bad, the bad we go, we get a new one and
- 27:26they're gonna they're gonna hear that message a lot and clears like, that's not
- 27:30how that kissed me off. That's the approach. That's the approach that we
- 27:34were debating not month and a half, two months ago, whether that would
- 27:37be a better approach than what a traditional rebuild is. That's not coaching,
- 27:44that's just shopping for good players and hoping that they make you look good.
- 27:48This this team shows how bad your coaching staff was though last with Frost Air,
- 27:52because every player that was on with for us has done something a lot
- 27:56better this year, like Ben Hart's got better, Hill has looked good,
- 28:02Ethan Piper looked these in all those players like the complete ship on the Frost
- 28:06So that tells you how bad he was and almost agree yeah, and and
- 28:14I guess yeah, looking like shit I think goes back to exactly what we
- 28:18started the podcast with. When you lose, everything gets magnified. When you
- 28:22win, all the good things get magnified. So you lose a game,
- 28:26we lose a game like this and we lose. Let's say we lose Northwestern
- 28:30and Purdue, right, Like I as a fan, like, we want
- 28:33to figure out, Okay, why the hell we lose? All right,
- 28:34Well our offensive line shitty? Well who's shitty on our offensive line? Well,
- 28:37let's go find find out. Whereas when we win, we're just like,
- 28:41Okay, they were solid, right, And I'm sure not everything's perfect,
- 28:44And you hope that the staff is the one ones that are realizing that
- 28:48too and continuing to find ways to improve and aren't aren't ever satisfied with where
- 28:52we're at. I think that's what good coaching staffs do. But yeah,
- 28:56I think that is very clear that players are playing better than they have in
- 29:03previous years and that's largely because of because of coaching and then ultimately winning.
- 29:11And he takes on Matt Rule's comments after the game in the press conference.
- 29:18Nothing there was anything too controversial, and there's just he just said a lot
- 29:22of things that you want to hear. Yeah, and this is it wasn't
- 29:26as much post game, but his Thursday press conference too. Call it a
- 29:32red flag. I don't know. He just he still continued to talk a
- 29:36lot about himself in his past, which we caught that with Mark Whipple a
- 29:41lot before he even started coaching. And the justification behind it, right is
- 29:45he's still He's Rule is still proving himself to the fans, and he doesn't
- 29:51have a lot of experiences here to tie back to and relate to when it
- 29:53talks about growing and learning from mistakes and things that went well and didn't work
- 29:57well at Nebraska. So yeah, he's using as Temple days as Baylor days
- 30:00his NFL days to tie a lot of that back to what he's learned.
- 30:03Right, But at some point we got to get over that and say,
- 30:07no, this is what's happening here, what we're building here, and not
- 30:11talking about that again, that's saying that's a shame on rule. I hate
- 30:15Matt Rule for That's not That's not what I'm saying. It's it's just all
- 30:18right, let's keep keep going, Let's let's keep moving on with where we're
- 30:22at, keep getting better. Yeah, you guys can go speaking in the
- 30:29streets next Saturday, after you guys go bowling or what at Michigan State.
- 30:34I'll be there, guys. I'm sorry, we are probably not going to
- 30:40go bowling next week because I'm going to the game. That's true, that's
- 30:44bad luck. I guarantee, I guarantee Nebraska will win WOA smoke Kansas this
- 30:52last weekend. Wait, isn't it? Wait? We went on Time to
- 30:56talk about Alklahoma podcast about doing I think we have plenty of times, maybe
- 31:03because I do. I have one bigger topic that is I just found fascinating
- 31:08and interesting and it comes from the fans going back to them and you know
- 31:15how much we love them but hate them. I don't know what it looked
- 31:19like on TV, no idea what you could see from the crowd. It
- 31:23was obviously a very cold game. Austin. Did you see what tickets were
- 31:27going for on stub Hub or knew what they were costing to get into the
- 31:30game? I saw, I saw someone got enough tickets for like a family
- 31:34of six for eight bucks each. Yep, it was dirt cheap. I
- 31:38knew Dak had eight of them with his family. I knew. I think
- 31:41of about fifteen tickets that were people were giving away just we could go to
- 31:45the game. People did not want to go to this game because I guess
- 31:52the weather condition right, Like, There's probably not a whole lot of other
- 31:56reasons to say other than it was going to be cold. So now there
- 32:00were parts of the States that did have a substantial mess snow, yes,
- 32:06so traveling there too. That I think bigger picture just says right now the
- 32:12fan base like, yes, I think some of the die hards and people
- 32:15that have podcasts like us, like, we're very invested in enjoying it,
- 32:20but you're casual fans that there's just still nothing to latch onto. Yet they
- 32:23are still waiting and seeing what's going on. So that was That was number
- 32:29one. The first thing that I noticed this week's second thing, student section
- 32:34and the stadium itself come kick off was pretty filled. It wasn't quite I
- 32:37think, all the way, but it's not like you could see a bunch
- 32:39of openings. The student section diminished very very quickly after, probably again the
- 32:45cold. They're college kids, so I'm sure most but we're not dressed warm
- 32:50enough. And by the end of the game, or even when we were
- 32:53up twenty four to nothing, the student section I would say was a fourth
- 32:57fill. Potentially, it is Halloween weekend, and that might have been the
- 33:00oldest you've ever sounded. Hunter. They weren't college kids, so I'm sure
- 33:05they weren't dressed warm enough. Well, and I say that too because I
- 33:07wasn't dressed warm enough. I did not. Yeah, you had to froze.
- 33:12I only had jeans on and I had three layers of close up top,
- 33:15a T shirt along sleeve in a sweatshirt. So I was not warm
- 33:19enough myself. But besides the point, again, don't that this speaks to
- 33:23our program right now where it's at. Yeah, we're winning, but shows
- 33:29college students right now in Nebraska are not. They don't, they don't care
- 33:32about Husker football. But think about what students. What are they like?
- 33:36They like when you're ranked, the like when you're playing a ranked team.
- 33:37They like all the hype that surrounds everything there and for Nebraska's not and and
- 33:44maybe we'll get there by the end of the year, that's great, but
- 33:46that's what they're waiting to see. But I can guarantee you if we're playing
- 33:49Iowa at the end of the year and we're in the top twenty five and
- 33:52we're playing to go to a Big ten West title game, they'll be there
- 33:55because that's what matters to them. But this game doesn't. It needs to
- 34:00to start. Yes, third, third thing with the fans. By the
- 34:06time we got to the fourth quarter. The stadium was probably about half filled,
- 34:09maybe a little over half, but it was farse. Things were going
- 34:13very very well. Okay, we were winning. I'm not gonna it wasn't
- 34:16a blowout, but things were going well and it probably just got a little
- 34:20cold for some fans. But the whole fourth quarter. It has hit me.
- 34:27With like two minutes left in the fourth quarter, I turned next to
- 34:30the guys I was sitting to and I'm like, we have not sat down
- 34:34the whole second half. It sounded, honestly, it sounded like the fans
- 34:38that are on TVOY did look empty. To the sound like the fans that
- 34:43were there were freaking invested in the game. It was fascinating. It was
- 34:49really because everybody was like everybody that stayed like stood and was very invested and
- 34:55was in it because we were kicking ass and everybody was loving it. Because
- 34:59everybody I think that stayed were the ones that care enough about Huscar football,
- 35:02whether it be whatever age, they cared enough about it that they wanted to
- 35:07stay and support because everything was going so well. So it was very neat
- 35:10to see because I'm like, wow, this is great, Like everybody's like
- 35:14this speaks to how things are getting better. At the same time, you
- 35:17go, oh wow, maybe only half the stadium on a given Saturday,
- 35:22actually we want at the game. The other half we don't even want to
- 35:25come in the first place. If that's their mindset and attitude, right,
- 35:30like, it validates us lowering the capacity. And you want those forty five
- 35:37fifty thousand people that were there at the end of the game, because those
- 35:40are the ones that are invested in love it a rest of them. I'm
- 35:44sorry, I get it. You want to go to a game, but
- 35:45don't come. If that's your mindset, don't come. That was every reason
- 35:50for a kick ass game that you should be staying and cheering and supporting.
- 35:53And yeah, I get it, it was freaking cold, But what the
- 35:55hell are you there for that? What are you there for if if you're
- 35:59just gonna leave when things are going well? Now, I get it.
- 36:00If it was fifty one to nothing, then get your ass out of there,
- 36:04like the game was over. But there's nothing no part of that game
- 36:06where it was like, oh we're killing I'm great, we're winning game over,
- 36:09Like, yeah, fired me up. But also I was very telling.
- 36:14I thought that was very interesting. My most interesting fan take I've had
- 36:16this year was what happened that second half and half people left, but the
- 36:22ones that were there were loved it. It sounded louder than sometimes a full
- 36:29stadium at the end of that game like it was. It sounds the student
- 36:32section was looked like completely empty by the middle of the fourth quarter. They
- 36:37cleared out quick, which I'm I'm sure they will have to go party for
- 36:42Halloween. But but yeah, do you uh, did you have any fireball
- 36:49keep you warm? Or what? Maybe a little? You couldn't have paid
- 36:55me to sit in those stands. It was about the most fun game I
- 37:00think I've been to it at Memorial Stadium in a long time. I mean,
- 37:02it really was. It just it had a chili vibe and you know
- 37:09what, I told myself, I'm gonna be cold because I'm not transforming up
- 37:13like it's gonna freaking have fun. And obviously the game and the way it
- 37:16went helped a lot. But it was a blast. And I wish that
- 37:21everybody that was there at the end of the game could double their bodies and
- 37:23show up every week, because that would make Memorial Stadium a freaking It'd be
- 37:29awesome. It'd just be a blast every Saturday. But I think we have
- 37:32a lot of fans right now that still are needing something to prove. I
- 37:37really hope that's why we're not why we're trying to go down and score with
- 37:40twenty four to nothing and then putting Jefferson's and I hope that's not the reason
- 37:45is to a piece those fans because we don't need to. But could be,
- 37:47I don't know, hope not. I think that's just to get more
- 37:52reps as an offense, to be honest. Could be. Could be I
- 37:57would have been at pounding them and pounded him and pounded him again and then
- 38:04break one free like we did on that last drive with Emma Johnson up the
- 38:07middle. Dad Dak we got about thirty seconds left. Give us your rant
- 38:15on ou what a pissed poor coaching performance that was. They just and Jim
- 38:21Bean is the best backup quarterback me all time. That guy, that guy,
- 38:25every time he comes in. I knew it was gonna be I knew
- 38:28it was gonna be a close game because he's he's pretty damn good, and
- 38:32he lit them up. I knew I was worried about coming in and Sprink
- 38:36told you everything. It sucked, it was, it wasn't fun. Name
- 38:39my boy Kirk Cousin's teras Achille. It's been a hell. And my saves
- 38:45beat the Colts today. Yeah they did. Derek car look competent, he
- 38:49did. Life's been good on this end. This weekend, absolutely awful on
- 38:54this end. Both my teams are done well, Dad, go run another
- 38:59mild night. We'll be back Wednesday. Review The spartans of Michigan State,
- 39:05go big, Red, Give you are Bloomer sooner. I love that burnt
- 39:09Owings Dude h
