- 1:07SPEAKER_02: I have no complaints complaints right now.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: I have a I have a I have this cane that everybody thinks is a fashion statement, but it's really not.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: It's literally because I tore I tore my quad.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: You know, after you get over 40, you know, they'll let you know exactly what time it is.
- 1:24SPEAKER_04: You gotta take it easy.
- 1:27SPEAKER_04: You gotta take it easy, Dre.
- 1:29SPEAKER_04: Easy.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: No, you just gotta, you know, no, I think the one concept that we didn't think about was, you know, when you're young, we don't, you don't fall unless you're just a clumsy person.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: You don't fall when you're young.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: So nobody ever teaches us that you have to learn how to fall as you get old.
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: Just fall down.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: Just fall down.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: It's okay.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: You've been a player for so long.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: It's okay.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: Just learn how to fall.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: Don't try to stop.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: That's when you get hurt.
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: When you try to stop something from moving, that's when you get hurt.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: Just fall on down.
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: You see those stairs?
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: You already going down the stairs.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: Just fall on down the stairs.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: Just keep on going.
- 2:04SPEAKER_04: Why even try to stop it on the way down the stairs?
- 2:07SPEAKER_04: And ladies and gentlemen, that was a 40-plus advice of the day.
- 2:11SPEAKER_04: You heard me back?
- 2:13SPEAKER_04: Hey, dream, man.
- 2:15SPEAKER_04: That's all I'm saying.
- 2:17SPEAKER_04: I want to say, man, you did your thing recently over there in the Bronx, man.
- 2:21SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean?
- 2:22SPEAKER_04: Like, that was beautiful.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: Hey.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: Hey, man.
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: That was um, that was that was big.
- 2:31SPEAKER_02: That was um, that was different.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: That was different.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: And it felt great.
- 2:35SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 2:36SPEAKER_04: And I'm gonna ask you, you as an artist, of course, you're in, you're in with the Carters, et cetera.
- 2:41SPEAKER_04: Like, as an artist, you're still a fan, even when this whole big thing was happening over the weekend in the Bronx with Jay-Z and all that, correct?
- 2:48SPEAKER_02: Of course.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: No, of course, man.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: Just the movement of an and it's several of us that have this thing, you know.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: We might, like in that pot line where we fight amongst each other, you know, amongst all of us, you know.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: There's no way, you know, a black man does a thing like that at that height, and you can't be a fan of it.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: There's just no way you can't.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: I I just wouldn't feel right.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: So of course, I'm I'm a fan.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: As soon as I even got the call, for forget the whole part about big coming on the stage, just period.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: Just literally, yo, man, come up here.
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: I want you to enjoy this with me.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: And to get that invite was one thing.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: Um, man, it's just a blessing, man, to see somebody do it that big in person, like and to watch what even what I've watched.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: So you guys have seen way more than I have, you know.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: But from even what I seen to you just imagine being there, man, and just remember hearing Hove in '96.
- 3:44SPEAKER_02: Man, it's just, man, joy.
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: I'm so I'm so upset I missed that, man.
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: I was watching from the sidelines and watching all legendary shit go down.
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: I was like, wow.
- 3:55SPEAKER_03: I'm from New York.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: I'm a J fan.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: I'm out there and watching every whole movement go down.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: Amazing.
- 4:00SPEAKER_04: And I'll tell you.
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: You know, Jeezy left his whole concert in Vegas.
- 4:04SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 4:05SPEAKER_04: Yo, Jeezy canceled the shit, right, to pull up on the concert.
- 4:09SPEAKER_04: Like, holy shit.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: Yes, sir.
- 4:11SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: Yes, sir.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: Like a true Atlanton would.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: We just it's an Atlanta.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: No, man, that's a call.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: That's Southern hospitality works everywhere.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:22SPEAKER_04: That's real.
- 4:23SPEAKER_04: That's real.
- 4:23SPEAKER_04: No, that's real.
- 4:25SPEAKER_04: That's real.
- 4:25SPEAKER_04: He said, we're gonna put the bag on hold for tonight because New York needs me on that stage.
- 4:29SPEAKER_04: And that was amazing, man.
- 4:32SPEAKER_04: And then Dream Now, we got we got this basically a part two of the project.
- 4:36SPEAKER_04: What what's the difference between the dream then and this dream now in 26 when it comes to the new project that you put out?
- 4:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's just experience, man.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: And the way that I'm the way, the way I'm speaking about love is a lot different.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: The way I'm speaking about relationships is a lot different.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: I mean, you know how it is, man.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: You get the older you get, the wiser you get.
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: You know, some of us, we still got friends that are knuckleheads, you know, they ain't learn nothing.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: And we still love we still love them to death because every crew needs a knucklehead, by the way.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: Make sure you got a knucklehead in your crew.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: That's the balance stretch.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: You never know when it's about to go down.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you gotta be able to call a knucklehead and say, oh, cool, I I got something for all that.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: I'll know how to fix that.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: Um but no, on the on the other side of this, man, it's just we don't get through life without some type of direction.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: And I wanted to make sure whatever I've gone through, whether it be um positive, in between, negative, facing or looking like it is.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: And by the way, anything which you fail at, that's where you learn the most.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: And I always want to share what I learned the most, especially about these relationships and about uh my guys who tell who are telling me certain stories, and and just even from the other side, um, from having uh an amazing amount of conversation with women, and as you as you probably could tell, based on the songs that I write.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: Um just really coming to and as the world changes, man, because the world, the world changed.
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: Nobody thinks about that, man.
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: You get it get yourself into a relationship, you know, when you're 20.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: It's just different when you're 35 and different when you're 45.
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: It's just different.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: And it's because it's not just because of you and you're growing and you're learning things, it's the world also is changing, even dating now.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: You know, you used to just walk up and holler at a girl.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: You'd probably get arrested hollering at a girl right now.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: Like literally.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: And they come back.
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: Hey, Sean, hey, Sean, let me holler.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: Hey, Sean.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: I know you did.
- 6:34SPEAKER_04: Eevee E is in the place now because she heard the dream pulled up on us.
- 6:38SPEAKER_04: Eevee, baby.
- 6:40SPEAKER_04: I mean Eevee, now that you're according to the according to the dream, this time around, we're getting a more mature dream.
- 6:47SPEAKER_04: We're getting a dream that actually thinks about what he's gonna say.
- 6:50SPEAKER_04: I mean, 20 years ago, he was just going hard.
- 6:52SPEAKER_04: He was just going at it.
- 6:53SPEAKER_04: You know what I'm saying?
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: Well, I I got a question.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: I got a question.
- 6:56SPEAKER_03: You know, the dream earlier said, you know, he gotta do things different now.
- 6:58SPEAKER_03: It's a different time.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: He's grown.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: That things have changed, the future's here.
- 7:02SPEAKER_03: Now, I want to talk real quick, as a songwriter, a producer, AI.
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: AI.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: What are your thoughts?
- 7:11SPEAKER_03: Um new AI songs, new uh uh production done by AI.
- 7:16SPEAKER_03: It's like, you know, as a DJ, I'm a DJ, I'm like, oh shit, what's gonna happen in fucking 10 years to a DJ?
- 7:22SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 7:22SPEAKER_03: So you as a producer, songwriter, you know, what are your thoughts?
- 7:25SPEAKER_03: Pandora's box is a thing, right?
- 7:29SPEAKER_02: Pandora's box.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: We opened it a long time ago, and it always starts the same way.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: Nobody cares, nobody thinks it's gonna affect them.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: That's how it starts.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: It's like started with MP3s, and all the labels was like, yo, this is not gonna affect us.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: And when it started affecting them, they started stealing more money from artists.
- 7:49SPEAKER_02: That's a fact.
- 7:51SPEAKER_05: Ain't that fucked up?
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: Just telling you, just telling you some facts here.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: So for me, AI for a music standpoint, you know, it doesn't personally affect me as much because I kind of get the idea of how it's actually made.
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: And I told I said this before this these allegations started coming up about AI using songwriters beforehand to kind of build its own, like its own platform of how it's using certain things and putting songs together.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: And I told I told I remember talking to Tricky about this, and I said, I'm not afraid of AI because AI doesn't know what I'm going to say next.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: It only knows what I've said.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 8:29SPEAKER_02: And so that means you know all Dream Records, you got all Timberland Records, you got all Neptune Records, you got you have all JD, and you're putting them into this simulation to say, oh, cool, now make me this sound.
- 8:42SPEAKER_02: It's not making a sound from nothing.
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: Nobody can make a sound from nothing.
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: You're building it off of people.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: You gotta fit it.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: And so we knew, I knew at least that it was gonna turn into this particular thing.
- 8:53SPEAKER_02: I think Ye called it out at some particular point.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: It's just unfortunate, that Pandora box thing.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: We think everything is cool.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: And sometimes things shouldn't be, you should just let people in because they get in.
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: It's too many people in this kitchen that just don't belong in it.
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: And that you get the people who are the bad actors who are creating these things that don't even care about the art of music itself.
- 9:16SPEAKER_02: It's literally to sell you uh app so they can make money and then also still not pay us.
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: That's a problem.
- 9:23SPEAKER_03: That's the biggest problem.
- 9:25SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 9:28SPEAKER_03: Now, okay, that's AI.
- 9:29SPEAKER_03: Now, let's rewind it.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: This is a big DJ podcast.
- 9:34SPEAKER_03: You started DJing ever?
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: You when you when you came up?
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: Oh man, when I was by the way, oh, don't even get I'm gonna tell you my first DJ story.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: Let me tell y'all something.
- 9:45SPEAKER_02: I was eight years old.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: My mom would say, yo, I need you to put the, you know, put together a list of which songs to play this Friday.
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: Every Friday, my aunts, my uncles, everybody would come to my mom's house.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: She would go over there and they would have this song.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: Fish on Fridays, that's how it works as black people in the South.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: I don't know how it works everywhere else, but that's how it works.
- 10:05SPEAKER_05: You play quads, you do everything.
- 10:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: We were playing spades, tunk, whatever you want to call it.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: See, we had that in Brooklyn too.
- 10:12SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 10:13SPEAKER_02: So Friday was that was that day.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: You know, they get off work and they're gonna stay up to like 1 a.m.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: And this one particular time, though, guys, I called myself getting ready beforehand.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna start on Wednesday to get ready for this fish thing on Friday.
- 10:28SPEAKER_02: Nice.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: I took my mom's salt and pepper push it uh vinyl.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: Yes, please.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: And I was like, yeah, not only am I putting a track list together this week, I'm gonna scratch these records because it looks so easy from the DJs that were doing it.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: Man, I tore my I tore my mom salt and pepper vinyl up so bad.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: She was so irate.
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: I've never seen my mom this mad about music in my entire small life.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: That was the beginning and the end of my DJ career.
- 11:06SPEAKER_02: Thank you guys.
- 11:07SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: I deserve a trophy for this.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna ask, what do you think that needle looked like?
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: Like, it must have been all told.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I broke the needle.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, no, no, I broke the needle.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: That's that that needle wasn't built for that.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: You know, but you're not taught that when you're young.
- 11:22SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: You're just like, yo, it's a needle here.
- 11:25SPEAKER_02: It's I have two turntables.
- 11:27SPEAKER_02: I put this one here, got my grandfather's turntables, one on the other.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: I know how to actually patch the sound where it goes left to right.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: But that needle wasn't with it.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: I tore that needle down.
- 11:39SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: I was just in the carpet looking for that needle, and my mom was looking for my ass to whoop.
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 11:45SPEAKER_02: And I just I was like, yeah, I'm gonna just go and play basketball.
- 11:48SPEAKER_02: I know she's not coming out here.
- 11:49SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna hide from her.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: That was it, guys.
- 11:51SPEAKER_03: That's my DJ career.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: That was your DJ career.
- 11:53SPEAKER_03: And then from there on, songwriting, production.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I did things that didn't require a needle.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: That's what I did.
- 12:05SPEAKER_03: It went the right way, though.
- 12:07SPEAKER_03: It went the right way.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 12:11SPEAKER_03: Evie, so you got a lot of history with DreamApp.
- 12:13SPEAKER_03: I need some, I need to drop some gems.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: Like Okay, I have great stories.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, what you got, Eve.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: It's a dream.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: And I have photographic evidence as well.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: Um, so for those that don't know, by the way, my my face might look familiar because I am the co-host of Two Mothers One Ashe on our fantastic uh Merrick Studios Network.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: So you know.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Um, but I'm also get it out there.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: Go ahead, mark it, mark it.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: I'm also a 30-year music veteran, um, music's executive.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: I'm a heavy hitter as well.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: So I I have earned my place on this podcast.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: Heavy hitter.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: And um, and so Dream was signed to Def Jam, and I was VP of promotion at Def Jam at the time.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: And uh Dream kind of found his way to my office.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: You know, I was on the lower level.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: I definitely was not on LA Reid's floor, I was the floor below.
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: And he would find his Eevee, I want you, E, Evie, I want you to say it again.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: I want you to say how very, how very detailed I was about making sure that I saw everybody.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: I could have gone to that floor and went to the house.
- 13:31SPEAKER_02: No, no, it's true.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: No, it's true.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: Went to the house.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: You would think that the dream, the American dream, would have and would have access to LA Reed's credit card to eat whatever he wants to eat in New York City.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: But he would come walking into my office with bags of McDonald's, and he would be like, yo, E, I need a place to eat.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: And find his way on my couch, and we would sit there, we would talk about breaking his records and all the things.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: And so that's one of my favorite memories.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: And I have Polaroids.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: There was a there was a phase there where anybody who came to my the threshold of my office, I would take a Polaroid of them.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: So I know that that Polaroid exists somewhere, it's not right in front of me, but one day I'll put it up on the internet to let to show folks that Dream and I have a nice long-standing history.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: I also have a really um great story that that I'm sure Dream never even heard this story before because I did my story.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: Everybody in America, because I know everybody's watching.
- 14:43SPEAKER_02: I did my idea what she's getting ready to say.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: And I will stamp it at the end.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: I swear.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: Listen, listen.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: So Dream, I'm gonna confess to you right now.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: Big confession.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Oh boy.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: So we did this RB live to promote someone album.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: We did this RB live in order to promote Dream's current album at the time.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: And I had the bright idea of taking our baby acts and putting them on the stage to open for the dream, who had certifiable platinum hits at this point, right?
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: I just wanted this like super dope RB night.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: This was what was living in my head.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: Well, going before the dream was Luke James.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you guys, right?
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Luke James got pipes, right?
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: So he goes up there and he's gonna be able to do it.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: No, no, Luke James, Luke James is an anointed by the gods.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: What are you talking about?
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: What are you talking about?
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: Like Luke James.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: Yo, he sings his fuck he was just like, fuck that, I got this stage.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: I'ma tear this bitch all the way down.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Yo, he brought tears to people's eyes, this man up on that stage.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: So then he gets on stage, standing ovation the whole nine.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: Now his dreams turn, he's headlighting.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: This is his show.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: He gets on that stage, he jumps on the mic, he goes, Who the fuck put this nigga on before me?
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: Yo, I ran to the back of the room and went like this.
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: By the way, so if you don't know me, that's how I that's how I give people their flowers.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 16:39SPEAKER_05: Yo, that's the realest shit you said, my brother.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: It's that's how I give you your flowers.
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: Like, yo, what the fuck?
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: Like, put this nigga last.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: Like, like, put this amazing ass nigga before me, like top like zero.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: And so I wanted people to understand, like, Great story, Eevee.
- 16:55SPEAKER_05: Great story.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, no, amazing story.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: Um, I forgot that was Luke James.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: That was definitely Luke.
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: And I just did um, I just did a thing with him, like not the shop.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: Me and Luke James just did the shop together.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, so so for me, and I was very influential in making that whole beat, him actually at the um forget if it was four, it was the album four around that time, him actually being on that tour, opening up for her, like very influential in in making sure that happened.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: Um so yeah, no, not of course, love for voices, period.
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I always try to get my flowers out, man, because when you're anointed and you got a thing that you do, I want you to do it.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: I don't care about, you know, like yeah, you know, I'm gonna go out there like I got my Ralph Trez van on, like I'm gonna do my do my third.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: You know, you're gonna bring Johnny Gill out.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: They're like, yo, what's going on right now?
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: You know, bring Johnny out here.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: Jim, I wanted to ask you because you mentioned Beyonce, um, and you know, you've had a really long-standing relationship with her, and it's almost it it seems to me from the outside, like she's she's one of your muses.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: Can you talk to me about the relationship?
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: Can you talk to us about the relationship with her and the from a creative standpoint?
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 18:17SPEAKER_02: I mean, absolutely, it's definitely a muse.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: Um is it's it's um it's in the wind, so to speak, of what the relationship is.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: It's it's uh it's like everywhere.
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: It's it's all of course you see what you see, but the things with music and melody and all of those storytellings and and everything that comes come with it are things you don't see.
- 18:39SPEAKER_02: The connectivity when it makes sense.
- 18:41SPEAKER_02: When these records make sense on you know, when they when they get on wax and they actually start to make sense and they just feel so cohesive and so put together, that means there's certain people in that crew that are put together in a certain type of way.
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: And that's another thing about anointance, that word again.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: Like the relationship is anointed.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: I can't, I couldn't I didn't make the relationship what it is.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: We just we met each other, you know, and more and my first encounter um would come from Hove.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: Hove was like, yo, I need you to write my wife a record.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: That's what's up.
- 19:17SPEAKER_02: Like Absolutely.
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: And that's how it happened.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: Wow And ever since then, whether whether I'm utilized a lot, uh a little bit or whatever, the things that people don't see are still all of those conversations are still the same.
- 19:31SPEAKER_04: And we'll be right back.
- 19:33SPEAKER_04: And now, back to the show.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: It's still happening, you know, day in and day out.
- 19:38SPEAKER_02: Um I know when she she wants to be bothered, I know when she doesn't want to be.
- 19:41SPEAKER_02: I know what I know what all of those things are because I know how I feel, and that's a certain type of um connection that you can't you just can't make that type of thing up.
- 19:49SPEAKER_03: How about how about um Rihanna?
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: Did that also like come like through Hove or was it?
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: No, no, no.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: Re No no, Reeves was just it was based off of that song.
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: You know, you put a smash out in the world like Umbrella, you know, everybody wants that joint.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: They're like, yo, I don't know who did it.
- 20:06SPEAKER_05: That shit there.
- 20:07SPEAKER_05: That shit there.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, who whoever that nigga is.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: That'd be you, sir.
- 20:13SPEAKER_02: That'd be you.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: That'd be you, sir.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: Bring that bring that nigga to me.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: Like, and so um that record happened differently, but still still, still, guys, I swear to you, it's it's nothing.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: You can't make something happen that's supposed to be happen the same that shit happen the same way you can't take it away.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: Even if the word eventually is a part of it, even if it happens down the road, you can't stop it.
- 20:40SPEAKER_02: And that was something that was going to her regardless of what we thought we were doing, regardless of what this what we thought the song would be.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: It's a perfect song for Rihanna.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: It was a perfect joint.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: It really was.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: And it changed lives.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: And it put a very sad lib out into the world.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: That Ella, Ella, Ella became Yes, yes.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: And that became like a signal.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: Well, you know where that came from, right?
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: No, tell us a story.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: Tell me.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: So the Ellis was so if you really from the hood and you were working from the ground up, you would know that if you got pro tools and you f when you first get it, there's all of these plugins you could download.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: Now, you could turn on one plug plugin, but it makes the other one slow, or it just makes it you have to just void it out.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: You're like, I can't use that plugin.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: So there were certain things like um EQs and certain things I wanted to use, and I didn't want to use the reverb.
- 21:33SPEAKER_02: So it so I meant the delay.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: So instead of using the delay most of the time, I started repeating, being repetitive about whatever the last thing was that I said.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: So umbrella, Ella, Ella was just literally the actual me just being, I guess AI in that minute, being being the delay, creating a delay of my own, and everybody's like, oh, that's a thing, and I'm like, Yeah, sure.
- 22:01SPEAKER_03: Smart.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: Producers, you listening out there, up and coming?
- 22:05SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: Dream, I gotta ask you.
- 22:08SPEAKER_03: Uh up and coming producers, songwriters, do you in 2026, you've been been through so much.
- 22:14SPEAKER_03: Do you have any words?
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: Do you have any, you know, up and you know, we have a lot of DJs watching this, and and they're trying to they're trying to be the next DJ enough, the next Camelo, the next dream.
- 22:23SPEAKER_03: You know, any words to up-and-coming guys in the game or girls?
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: The craft, the craft would will outlive it all.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: The craft will outlive it all.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: Just as for sure, I'm sitting in this SL 600 from 1994.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: The craft of it.
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: You can't get away from it.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: Didn't cost all that much money.
- 22:42SPEAKER_02: It didn't do the it is what it is.
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: You have to believe in the craft.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: When you do something great and you're doing something great, you gotta keep doing it.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: Even when they pay when they're paying you$30,000 for, when they pay you$5,000 for it, they'll pay you$40,000 again.
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: It's coming because the craft is what it is.
- 23:00SPEAKER_02: Keep pushing.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: You can't knock it.
- 23:02SPEAKER_02: When you know how to do a thing specifically, DJing is an art.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: It's an art form.
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: So when you know that you have art in this world, there's no way that thing goes anywhere.
- 23:13SPEAKER_02: It may go over there and be, you know, you watch out, it's like the new sheriff in town.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: You're like, yeah, that's the sheriff, but he's not gonna get nothing done.
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: And you know he's not.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: You just wait for us.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: Don't get rusty.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: Don't go sit on the bench and chill out.
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: You get rusty, you come back in and get your ass handed to you.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: So don't do that.
- 23:32SPEAKER_02: Um, but mostly, man, for anybody, especially DJing, man, it's not a lost art.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: It is art and it's not going anywhere.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: It's just it's just like anything else.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: As long as you guys take care of it and take care of those that are coming up and make people love it, just as for sure as those vinyls came back.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: It's like people want to feel something.
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: Right, and you gotta feel it.
- 23:53SPEAKER_03: And and I guess most importantly, you gotta also keep up with the times.
- 23:56SPEAKER_03: Everything evolves, you know.
- 23:58SPEAKER_03: We you know, times are changing quick, and technology just changing the whole game completely.
- 24:04SPEAKER_03: So, so you know, with DJs keeping up and and and producers and all that, just keeping up this motherfucking time because this shit is is evolving quick, man.
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: AI once again, ah no, AI is definitely on everybody's ass, but I I just still, when we look at the history of things that we love to see and want to do and wish we could experience, you know, you go to these museums, you wish it, you're wishing you were in a time of that.
- 24:30SPEAKER_02: The great thing about technology is so fast, it happens so quick that you're still able to do the thing that you love from the beginning.
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: It's still in existence.
- 24:41SPEAKER_02: It's not how it was when we came up when we were young.
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: We couldn't do those things anymore.
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: That shit was really in a museum.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: It wasn't for play play.
- 24:48SPEAKER_02: It wasn't for show.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: It was done.
- 24:50SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: There's an ancient fluke from Africa.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: Cool.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: Whoever played that one, kudos.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: Now, you just give it a little time.
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: It's a fad.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: It's a fad in technology.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: Like everybody has an app.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: Everybody has a thing that they're doing.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: And if you just keep your craft on it, that doesn't mean the apps won't change.
- 25:12SPEAKER_02: They're gonna stay there.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: But you know, it's like a toy for us.
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: It's like grown people's toys, this technology.
- 25:18SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 25:18SPEAKER_02: So take technology, you play with it a little bit, and then in a minute it'll be on the shelf, and you'll say, Man, I don't even want to hold my phone.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: Where's a club where they're actually playing live music and they're DJing and people are actually having a conversation?
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: Where is that?
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: Watch.
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, not two to three years.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: And you know, I get I get a woo-woo on my podcast, right?
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna I wanna I wanna kind of shift the energy a little bit.
- 25:40SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm I'm here with all you, with all this masculine energy.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: But I want to say that I I receive what you're saying, Dream, because it is so appropriate right now.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: You know, and what I'm hearing is that the energy is what stays consistent, right?
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: And and creative energy is divine energy.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: And when that, when when you tap into that, you can cancel the noise because that's what AI brings in: confusion, noise, just um uh a disbelief in yourself and your connection to the divine energy.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: And so I want to repeat what you said that DJing is an art, and motherfuckers are gonna try to take you off your block.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: All you gotta do is plug back into that creative divine energy that you possess that's guiding you to this point.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: A DJ Camillo, a DJ Enough, a dream, right?
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: Like, and you block out the rest of that noise and watch how that divine energy will carry you forward into the future because it's tied to the essence of our amen to that.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 26:50SPEAKER_03: All right, wow.
- 26:50SPEAKER_03: Hallelujah.
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: Okay, E V.
- 26:52SPEAKER_03: Hallelujah.
- 26:53SPEAKER_03: Okay, E V Hallelujah.
- 26:56SPEAKER_03: All right, hey Dream, speaking about the future nowadays, uh, is there any new artists that you know?
- 27:02SPEAKER_03: That's R any new, you know, the to me, new artists.
- 27:06SPEAKER_03: I have to keep up and do a lot of homework.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: I gotta turn around with my son all the time and be like, what do you like now?
- 27:11SPEAKER_03: What are you listening to?
- 27:12SPEAKER_03: Because he's always putting me on.
- 27:14SPEAKER_03: You always gotta listen to the to the young generation, right?
- 27:17SPEAKER_03: So it like I I give you an example.
- 27:20SPEAKER_03: He loves Playboy Cardi, right?
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: Just give me an example.
- 27:23SPEAKER_03: Of course he does.
- 27:24SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 27:24SPEAKER_03: And it takes Playboy Cardi.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: Dr.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: Playboy Cardi, but it takes me a minute to like grasp that music and listen and say, What'd he say here?
- 27:31SPEAKER_03: What did he say?
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: I asked my son all the time, but my question to you is is there anybody that you're looking at like, wow, I'm digging this new sound, digging this new kid or this this young artist or this producer, songwriter, DJ.
- 27:44SPEAKER_02: But before I get to that, I answer the question about the thing.
- 27:49SPEAKER_02: Hearing and trying to dissect what somebody's saying musically, and the even the art in that thing is language, right?
- 27:57SPEAKER_02: A person doesn't have to say anything if they have a certain type of body language.
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: You automatically know they're on some BS or they actually saying, Yo, what's up, man?
- 28:06SPEAKER_02: It's a kind there's this the word language is the part that we're trying to use to separate certain youthful things that are happening, where they're just speaking a language to their audience of what it is.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: So, like your son and mine's or whatever, and even even I, I get it.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: Playwright works out of out of the studio in Atlanta.
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: So, so for me, I know what that language is.
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: I don't have to even guess what he's saying or who he's speaking to.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: Um that word is uh I just want that to kind of, you know, kind of dive into your system for a minute for the next three times you hear new new guys that sound like you don't know what they're saying.
- 28:47SPEAKER_02: You do.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: You know what they mean by it, and you know what the language is because they're talking to us still.
- 28:53SPEAKER_02: Um, two, um Brent is still my Brent is still my my guy, man.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: Brent Brent Fi is, and I know he's not like super new new like that, but to me he is, because I feel like people are still discovering Brent in a certain type of way.
- 29:08SPEAKER_02: Um there's so many guys that come out.
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: Uh Olu from Earth Game has a record that he's about to pull out, put out.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: It's amazing.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: He's over there with Jen.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: Gen G.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: Shout out to Gen G over there, um, Epic.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: Um Olu is really great.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: Really great artist.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: Um You got that E?
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: Olu.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: I'm still I'm still I'm still on my Bryson joint still, and I know he's not super new, but I feel like he's turned a new coin.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: I don't know what it is, what he's doing lately, but he seems refreshed, and that's what that's definitely what this game needs.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: Um there's like 40,000 people they put out like every day now.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: So I just kind of usually wait till it rises to a certain space for me.
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: And that's usually my child.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: If ne if Navy or one one of the kids let me if I can hear something more than nine, ten times, I know that they must be popping.
- 30:06SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 30:07SPEAKER_02: Of course.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: I need to hear, I yeah, I have to hear it over and over again.
- 30:11SPEAKER_02: Then I'll know, like, oh, this person must have a hold.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: And it's hard getting a hold on my kids because they're just, they're hard.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: They're hard to crack.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: Please.
- 30:22SPEAKER_02: Hey, man, I'm just saying, you know what I'm saying?
- 30:25SPEAKER_02: They're hard to crack.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: You can't just play them some, they'll listen to it the first time because it's just an algorithm or whatever the thing is.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: Like, oh, cool.
- 30:31unknown: Right.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: But they're hard to crack when it comes to I want you to live in my space at my house.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: Different type of thing.
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: And so I'm still um, of course, Summer Walker, I picked her from the beginning, though.
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: She's not, she's almost getting into the veteran spot of herself at this particular point.
- 30:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:49SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, and I picked her before she anybody even knew who she was.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: So I don't, I don't, I, and times were different.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: Back to that point again, guys.
- 30:57SPEAKER_02: Times were different.
- 30:59SPEAKER_02: And how you discover things, even for me, which is which is what lets me know that we're not all doing a great job of marketing certain people.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: No.
- 31:08SPEAKER_02: Because nobody knows what people are doing or where they are, where to find them, and just a song coming on after another song is the dumbest thing ever.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: Like you're not announcing anybody.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: That would be like, hey, let's do a show with five different acts on it, and they just all come up and sing a song, and nobody ever says who the fuck they are.
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 31:26SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: That'd be the dumbest shit ever.
- 31:28SPEAKER_03: You know.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: Hey, we're gonna say, hey, we got a bunch of DJs coming.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: Okay, cool.
- 31:33SPEAKER_02: All you guys go up.
- 31:34SPEAKER_02: Nobody ever says who.
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: It's like, oh, I can tell the styles are different, but I don't who's who?
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: Because I wanna get into who the person is and understand why they play what they play.
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: The same way with artists, I want to understand why they sing what they sing and who they're who they're talking about.
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: And where they're where their idea of love comes from or non-love comes from.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: Um, and when you don't announce it, that's that's marketing.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: 101.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: You gotta announce it.
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna let you know.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: If I say it, it's gonna come off as me being bitter because you know, I'm no longer in the label system, I'm no longer doing marketing and promotion like across uh an entire label um roster.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: But when I tell you I miss speaking to people, because I am on the management side now.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: So I'm still in the business, but just on the management side.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: And I speak to these label folks, and they don't know, they they don't know about their artists.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: They don't get, they're not sitting down on their couch eating McDonald's with their artists, just fucking having this little back and forth conversation to get to know who they are, you know.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: And I'ma sit here and I'm gonna top my little horn because I've been quoted in the Wall Street Journal about how to break records, right?
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, just go ahead and you can Google, you could Google my name and it'll come up.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: And, you know, what I said in that article was like, it's imperative that you break an artist from their market, that you break them from home.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: And home has a larger, you know, connotation to it.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: Home is who they are.
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: You have to meet them where they are, language.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: Language with a with a with a narrative that that that requires language, clear language, um, affirmative language, confident language, and persuasive language.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: And that, my friends, is missing.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: But I'm not bitter.
- 33:30SPEAKER_01: I'm just behind dream and saying what needs to be said.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: That's well, I'm bitter, motherfucker, so check this out.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: No, I'm scared.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: No, no, but no, Evie, you got that's we just rounded.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: It's just language.
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: And if I if you don't know what my language is, that means you don't even know who to put me in front of.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: That means you don't know who you who you're selling me to.
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: It doesn't mean there's not 40 million of me.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: That means you have no idea how to get me to that particular person who understands me and what I'm saying.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 34:05SPEAKER_02: And that's incredibly it's almost like it's uh, it's it's the I feel like the I wanna how can I say this?
- 34:14SPEAKER_02: The algorithm in a way is just about so purely about numbers, it has you could tell it has no soul.
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a black hole.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: It doesn't want to be it doesn't want to be connected.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: It's a black hole, it has no energy, it has no structure, it's just a black hole.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: And you end up marketing and pushing literally into a vacuum, into a black hole, into and just hoping that there's like sparks that will that will come from it.
- 34:39SPEAKER_01: And that just doesn't, it it makes no sense to me whatsoever.
- 34:44SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 34:45SPEAKER_03: It's a different time, girl.
- 34:46SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 34:47SPEAKER_03: It's just a different time.
- 34:47SPEAKER_02: We gotta do it or girls or boys.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: Whether you agree with the way they work records nowadays or not, you know, it's a different time.
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: Listen, I as a DJ, I still do the old school shit and go to a club when I'm off.
- 35:00SPEAKER_03: Just to sit by the wall and just listen to what the fuck else is popping that I'm not playing.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: CC Camillo, see you one of the, you helping them out.
- 35:08SPEAKER_02: Whenever you say old school, that's only some shit we do in the culture.
- 35:12SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: That's our problem.
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: That's our problem.
- 35:15SPEAKER_02: That's our problem.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: We say old school, and then that's why everybody talks crazy about Jay for no apparent reason.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: It makes it around.
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: Because they want to use that word to say, oh, it's old school.
- 35:24SPEAKER_02: Nobody walks into Smithsonian and talking about, oh, look at this old school art.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: I get that.
- 35:31unknown: Nah.
- 35:31SPEAKER_02: I get that.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: Listen, so we we have to, we have to curtail, we have to control our own narrative in this culture.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: Because words don't hit the same as it would hit back.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: Back then, you know, they say old school.
- 35:43SPEAKER_02: It's endearing.
- 35:44SPEAKER_02: It's not endearing now.
- 35:46SPEAKER_02: I'm telling you from a songwriter standpoint.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: So when you say that word, it's like a lyric.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: That's a knife.
- 35:52SPEAKER_02: You just cutting at a thing to say, cool.
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: See, I told you.
- 35:55unknown: Right.
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: It's obsolete when you say old school.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: It's obsolete.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: You got the old school Air Force.
- 36:02SPEAKER_02: You got the old school Air Force Ones on.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: No, these is they class.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: Not the classic ones.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: They they stand the test the test of time.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: They're sustainable.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: They they keep growing.
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: Like, I just posted up.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: That's how they treat their stuff.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: I just posted up.
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: That's how they treat their stuff about how important it is to um to create legacies, but sustainably.
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: Like, how do you continue a legacy over decades?
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: Well, the only way to do it is to do it sustainably where where it can move at a pace that you can keep up with, because that's counterintuitive to the algorithm.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: And so it's gonna naturally make you stand out because you're not going at this like laser speed into the black hole.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: You're actually stepping back and saying, it's okay that we we can be comfortable at this pace and we can go ahead and continue to build.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: And no matter how small the building block is, you continue to build it.
- 37:01SPEAKER_01: Let me tell you something.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: DJ Enough built the heavy hitters.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: And and it was brick by brick.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: It was bringing in a Camillo, it was bringing in me, it was bringing in all the other, you know, family members that we have.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: And right now, we're not old school.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: We solid.
- 37:19SPEAKER_01: We're sustainable.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: We're we're a powerhouse, right?
- 37:24SPEAKER_01: Because we're not building a legacy in a vacuum.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: We're building a legacy bick by brick in reality, in right now.
- 37:33SPEAKER_01: And you cancel out all the fucking noise that goes around, that you know, yo, that's just noise.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: That's static from the algorithm because they're trying to attach itself to you and it can't.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: Teflon, baby.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: So it's about sustainable army and it's about building legacies.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: I think this is.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: We're 22 years together in this, in this business.
- 38:25SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, Chris, Chris has a, you know, he has a bit of his own great, you know, rapport out there in the music business.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: And it, you know, it's been um it's been challenging, it's been amazing, but at the end of the day, he brings the best out of me, and I hope to that, you know, that I bring the best out of him.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: And you were quoted recently as saying that, you know, you need your wife.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: Like it's more than just one, that she changed you cellularly, you know, bit by bit.
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: Can we talk about your lovely wife and and the impact that she's had on your life?
- 39:02SPEAKER_02: Changed me bit by bit.
- 39:04SPEAKER_02: I think you I think you pick picked up a a whole nother version of whatever the thing was.
- 39:09SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: But I'm like, bit by bit.
- 39:13SPEAKER_02: Like I was on the street, nigga.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: What are you doing?
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: What are you talking about?
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: That's crazy.
- 39:17SPEAKER_02: So fix it.
- 39:18SPEAKER_02: I'll advise anybody to go back and look exactly at what I said.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: Like it's it's you need your person, period.
- 39:27SPEAKER_02: It's not, it doesn't matter.
- 39:28SPEAKER_02: Wife, husband, it doesn't matter.
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: On each side, you need your person to do the thing that they are meant to do in order for this thing to function at a very high level.
- 39:38SPEAKER_02: Now, talent in some cases kind of um shifts what the pendulum is, you know, and it's kind of great, you know, you have talent.
- 39:47SPEAKER_02: Talent stays off certain things.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: While staving off of that thing, make sure you're in that relationship learning.
- 39:53SPEAKER_02: And that's that's the only part you kind of require because what you have access to and what your partner has access to may be different, which means you both know two different things.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: But just because somebody knows it, the the things that they do in the dark, and which is what I what I applaud my wife on is I'm going to get to know what this thing is so I can know it for us.
- 40:15SPEAKER_02: You know all of these other things that are great.
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna stand over here to learn all the necessary, whether it's about publishing, whether it's about the rights afterwards, um 20 years from now, whatever, these long-term goals.
- 40:29SPEAKER_02: Not, oh, cool, yeah, what are we having for dinner today?
- 40:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's cool.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: We're gonna eat.
- 40:34SPEAKER_02: We'll we'll be fine eating.
- 40:36SPEAKER_02: The knowing part, you need to know some things.
- 40:40SPEAKER_02: And so that's what I applauded her on.
- 40:43SPEAKER_02: It's not about, oh, she looks good, and she looks great, and she smells good, and like those things, back to my point of love, hate and love hate too, um, on the new album are things you start to mature and understand.
- 40:55SPEAKER_02: It isn't about the maturity of just acting a certain type of way.
- 40:58SPEAKER_02: It's what you're understanding and what you're taking in, what you really respect about a person, especially a woman.
- 41:03SPEAKER_02: Like, oh, I this is what I respect.
- 41:06SPEAKER_02: I respect that you know more than what I know now, giving the time, versus, oh, we're here, you look cute, but you don't know anything.
- 41:17SPEAKER_02: Facts.
- 41:18SPEAKER_02: I'm still carrying this weight of knowing it all.
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: Every day I wake up, I don't want to know.
- 41:24SPEAKER_02: I want somebody to tell me what we're doing today.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: And so when you've carried that for so long, you're looking for a partner that says, Oh, you know what, you can take the day off.
- 41:33SPEAKER_02: I know exactly what to do.
- 41:35SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 41:35SPEAKER_02: Matter of fact, take take the week.
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: Take your month.
- 41:39SPEAKER_02: You you need it.
- 41:40SPEAKER_02: And so those things are what I'm in love with.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: And it's the things that you that's back back to my point in the wind.
- 41:48SPEAKER_02: You don't see them.
- 41:50SPEAKER_02: But they must be there.
- 41:52SPEAKER_02: They must be there if you're actually having an impact, especially having an impact still in this world.
- 42:01SPEAKER_01: Yo, dream, I love your energy, bro.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: I reacted to that enough.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: Oh, thank you.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: Thank you, bro.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: You was given, you was given a dream.
- 42:08SPEAKER_05: Because I because I got a real one, and I know my real one does the same shit for me, just like that.
- 42:13SPEAKER_05: So shout to my wife and actually our anniversary is this weekend.
- 42:16SPEAKER_05: So shout out to her.
- 42:17SPEAKER_05: Hey, hey.
- 42:19SPEAKER_05: There you go.
- 42:19SPEAKER_05: Congratulations.
- 42:21SPEAKER_05: Congratulations.
- 42:22SPEAKER_05: We'll just have a dinner or something something light and simple.
- 42:25SPEAKER_02: Anniversary is your new birthday.
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: I tell everybody.
- 42:27SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 42:28SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 42:29SPEAKER_03: And you know, I gotta I gotta big up all the wifeies that are down with DJs, because back to this, you know, it ain't easy for wifey to hold down a DJ when a DJ's out all fucking night at a party with all types of drinking and partying and going on, you know.
- 42:44SPEAKER_03: Wifey's back home, quiet, you know.
- 42:48SPEAKER_03: It's just not easy for a wifey to be with a DJ in that atmosphere.
- 42:52SPEAKER_03: So big ups to all the wifey's out there holding DJs down, songwriters, artists, because artists go through the same thing, you know, traveling, working, all kinds of toxic shit out there, you know what I'm saying?
- 43:03SPEAKER_02: And but and not only that, that's that that's the the part, the part that you love the most though, I feel that I started to love the most is the understanding that just because you're in that space doesn't mean you're not missing I mean, that you're yeah, that you're not missing a certain thing.
- 43:24SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 43:24SPEAKER_02: You're missing first things that your daughter does, that your son does.
- 43:28SPEAKER_02: You think I don't want to be there for that?
- 43:30SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 43:31SPEAKER_02: You don't think I wanna wait.
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: The one the best things I love to do is to wait in that carpool line.
- 43:37SPEAKER_02: You may have gone to a point where you hate it.
- 43:39SPEAKER_02: It's the best thing.
- 43:41SPEAKER_02: Which portion am I pulling out today to get in this carpool line so I can get cursed out by the teacher saying it doesn't have a back seat?
- 43:48SPEAKER_02: Oh, I cannot wait.
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: It's a wonderful day.
- 43:52SPEAKER_02: I love pick get on in here.
- 43:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know we don't have it because she'll be all right.
- 43:56SPEAKER_02: Zoom, zoom.
- 43:58SPEAKER_02: That that special bun.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: With your child, you know, those those things, you know, could could not.
- 44:07SPEAKER_02: We all have to learn to enjoy what our job is.
- 44:11SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 44:12SPEAKER_02: That's what we're talking about.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: Enjoy what it is, because you may get feel like you're bitter and you're tired of whatever that job is.
- 44:19SPEAKER_02: Somebody's somewhere wishing, I wish all I had to do was wake up at that time, do that thing, and take my ass back to the house.
- 44:28SPEAKER_02: Boy.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: Yo, boy.
- 44:31SPEAKER_02: I'd rather deal with those little people personalities than grown people personalities every day of my life.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: Those little they don't get on my nerves.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: I think it's hilarious.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: That's a fact.
- 44:43SPEAKER_02: So figure out how to get that cookie out of the top, out of the top shelf of that pantry one way or another.
- 44:48SPEAKER_02: And I'm gonna watch her on the camera climb to get it and say, I'm gonna have the best entertainment experience of my week watching this child navigate herself to the top of the pantry to get this Twix.
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: This is amazing for me.
- 45:02SPEAKER_02: I'm having a hell of a day.
- 45:04SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: I applaud that so much, Dream.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: And I, you know, thank you, Camillo, and thank you, Eve, for bringing that perspective.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: You know, me, you've been on the same wavelength all day today.
- 45:15SPEAKER_01: But it's it's a perspective.
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: It's it's gratitude for your life.
- 45:20SPEAKER_01: And I find that when you are devoid of gratitude, you become bitter because you have nothing to appreciate anymore.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: And so the one thing that we should all avoid in life is not having gratitude, not waking up every day and feeling great about sitting in the carpool line or, you know, just whatever.
- 45:43SPEAKER_02: Feeling great about what we have to do.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: You don't have to say no more.
- 45:47SPEAKER_02: Feeling great about what we I had to show up here.
- 45:50SPEAKER_02: This is great.
- 45:51SPEAKER_02: Hey, man, go down the.
- 45:52SPEAKER_02: I had to find the reason why I'm really here is because the spots, the service is so bad at the house.
- 45:57SPEAKER_02: You feel bad about it?
- 45:59SPEAKER_02: It may, you know, I made it look like some pimp shit.
- 46:01SPEAKER_02: Y'all like, oh, look at dream.
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: I got his SL with the top down and stuff.
- 46:05SPEAKER_02: I I didn't eat this morning.
- 46:07SPEAKER_02: I'm fine.
- 46:07SPEAKER_02: I haven't ate today yet.
- 46:09SPEAKER_02: I'm fine.
- 46:10SPEAKER_02: I'm having a great time.
- 46:11SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna drive down here closer to where I know in East Hampton, where this actual, this right by church on Maine.
- 46:17SPEAKER_02: The best reception.
- 46:19SPEAKER_02: I've never seen five bars out here ever.
- 46:21SPEAKER_02: And I said, I'm gonna drive to where I see five bars for my people.
- 46:26SPEAKER_02: And make sure my service is studied.
- 46:29SPEAKER_02: That's what I did.
- 46:30SPEAKER_03: Dream, I appreciate facts.
- 46:32SPEAKER_03: But look at those five bars, make sure this is clean and clear.
- 46:35SPEAKER_03: Thank you so much.
- 46:36SPEAKER_03: Love and hate is out right now.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: Love, love hate too is out right now.
- 46:41SPEAKER_02: Go and get your gyms.
- 46:42SPEAKER_02: And by the way, I keep telling people, it'll be there forever.
- 46:45SPEAKER_02: This is the one thing I do know about publishing and great songs.
- 46:49SPEAKER_01: Just write it.
- 46:50SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 46:51SPEAKER_01: Dream, could you please repeat that for the people in the back?
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: Could you please remind people how this is not a fucking sprint?
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: This is a motherfucking marathon.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: And this is seeing you for the long run.
- 47:03SPEAKER_02: Don't get it.
- 47:04SPEAKER_02: It'll be there forever.
- 47:05SPEAKER_02: It'll be there forever.
- 47:06SPEAKER_02: And some kid, about the way, will jump out and tell you about purple kisses better than you know.
- 47:11SPEAKER_02: And you're like, what are you talking?
- 47:13SPEAKER_02: I just discovered this.
- 47:14SPEAKER_02: I'm putting it in my movie.
- 47:15SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm a director at XYZ, blah, blah, blah.
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: How can we sync it?
- 47:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, you don't have to ask nobody to sync my records.
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: You got it.
- 47:24SPEAKER_02: You just never know.
- 47:25SPEAKER_02: You just gotta put them into the universe.
- 47:27SPEAKER_02: Don't let these don't let these people fool y'all by this thing that we do.
- 47:31SPEAKER_02: This thing of ours, this thing of ours.
- 47:34SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 47:35SPEAKER_01: Dream, I recently gave you your flowers.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: We saw each other in LA at the BET Awards, and I took a moment because I think it's so important to tell people the effect that they had on your life.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: And um I have one more little bouquet that I want to give you.
- 47:54SPEAKER_01: So uh many people know that my son passed away five years ago.
- 48:00SPEAKER_01: And he was he passed away at 26, and he, you know, he was a true music true musician and and a true uh connoisseur of music, all all genres of music.
- 48:13SPEAKER_01: And maybe like a year before he passed away, he just he started sending me like songs from your catalog.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: And I, you know, I my oh my first response to my kids when they, you know, when they bring up music that I've worked, right?
- 48:27SPEAKER_01: Whether they know that I've worked it or not, and I hit them back like, what you know about dream?
- 48:31SPEAKER_01: I hit them like, what you know about dream?
- 48:33SPEAKER_01: What you know about this?
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: What you know about this?
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: And you know, and we would have these incredible conversations about your music.
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: And so I just want you to know that um somewhere in the heavens, he carries the energy of your music with him.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: And then it and it and it lives there, it exists there um somewhere.
- 48:55SPEAKER_01: So I just wanted to share that with you.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: And I I just I love you so much.
- 48:59SPEAKER_01: I love you the pieces I always have.
- 49:01SPEAKER_01: And man, can you give us the last word about this project, about your career, and anything else that you want folks to know?
- 49:11SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
