- 0:06Speaker 2: you so much for tuning into the Bible Explained Podcasts
- 0:09Speaker 2: on this lovely Thursday morning. I hope all of you
- 0:18Speaker 2: faithful listeners have been having a great start to your
- 0:20Speaker 2: week so far, and that the weather has been nice
- 0:22Speaker 2: and warm for you guys. And you can always contact
- 0:24Speaker 2: me and tell me what the weather is like where
- 0:26Speaker 2: you live. That is one of my hobbies is I
- 0:28Speaker 2: like to learn about weather. I actually, as a little
- 0:31Speaker 2: kid wanted to be a weather woman, and I still
- 0:36Speaker 2: kind of have a fascination with weather to this day.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I just enjoy it. For me, this week has been
- 0:40Speaker 2: very cold. I am not a big fan of it.
- 0:43Speaker 2: It's been rainy and cold, and I am just so
- 0:46Speaker 2: looking forward to warm, sunshiny days. But those days are
- 0:50Speaker 2: coming soon. So looking forward to that, and thankful for
- 0:53Speaker 2: the rain that we have so that the flowers can
- 0:56Speaker 2: bloom nice and pretty in the next couple weeks. But faithful,
- 1:00Speaker 2: I'm going to move to an ad break before we
- 1:02Speaker 2: jump into today's episode. From Hebrews chapter nine, Stay tuned
- 1:06Speaker 2: for a great discussion in just one minute. Today, I'm
- 1:10Speaker 2: not going to be reading from the Web like I
- 1:12Speaker 2: usually do, I'm going to be reading from the CSB version,
- 1:17Speaker 2: which is the Christian Standard Bible. And the reason I
- 1:20Speaker 2: chose the CSB this morning is because we're gonna be
- 1:22Speaker 2: talking about a very in depth topic like this is
- 1:26Speaker 2: like a deep Christology kind of We're gonna be talking
- 1:30Speaker 2: about the reason why blood is necessary for forgiveness, the
- 1:35Speaker 2: reason why we need to believe in Jesus in order
- 1:38Speaker 2: to be saved, and also why sin equals death and
- 1:42Speaker 2: why that means we cannot live with God without a sacrifice.
- 1:45Speaker 2: A lot to talk about in today's episodes, So let's
- 1:48Speaker 2: jump right in Hebrews nine eleven through twenty eight.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I'll be reading this from the CSB.
- 1:55Speaker 2: But Christ has appeared as a high priest of the
- 1:57Speaker 2: good things that have come in the greater and more
- 1:59Speaker 2: peric tabernacle, not made with hands, that is not of
- 2:02Speaker 2: this creation. He entered the most holy place once for
- 2:06Speaker 2: all time, not by the blood of goats and calves,
- 2:08Speaker 2: but by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. For
- 2:12Speaker 2: if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes
- 2:14Speaker 2: of a young cow sprinkled, those who are defiled sanctify
- 2:18Speaker 2: for the purification of the flesh. How much more will
- 2:21Speaker 2: the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit, offered
- 2:24Speaker 2: himself without blemish to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works,
- 2:29Speaker 2: so that we can serve the living God. Therefore, he
- 2:32Speaker 2: is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those
- 2:34Speaker 2: who are called might receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Because a death has taken place for redemption from the
- 2:40Speaker 2: transgressions committed under the First Covenant, where a will exists,
- 2:45Speaker 2: the death of one who made it must be established.
- 2:48Speaker 2: For a will is valid only when people die, since
- 2:51Speaker 2: it is never in effect while the one who made
- 2:53Speaker 2: it is living. That is why even the First Covenant
- 2:56Speaker 2: was inaugurated with blood. For when every command had been
- 2:59Speaker 2: proclaimed by Moses to all the people according to the law,
- 3:02Speaker 2: he took the blood of calves and goats, along with water, scarlet, wool,
- 3:07Speaker 2: and hissop, and sprinkled the scroll itself and all the people, saying,
- 3:11Speaker 2: this is the blood of the Covenant that God has
- 3:14Speaker 2: ordained for you. In the same way he sprinkled the
- 3:17Speaker 2: tabernacle and all the articles of worship with blood. According
- 3:21Speaker 2: to the law, almost everything is purified with blood and
- 3:24Speaker 2: without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness. Therefore,
- 3:28Speaker 2: it was necessary for the copies of the things in
- 3:30Speaker 2: the heavens to be purified with these sacrifices, but the
- 3:33Speaker 2: heavenly things themselves to be purified with the better sacrifices
- 3:37Speaker 2: than these. For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made
- 3:40Speaker 2: with hands only a model of the true one, but
- 3:43Speaker 2: into Heaven itself, so that he might now appear in
- 3:46Speaker 2: the presence of God for us. He did not do
- 3:49Speaker 2: this to offer himself many times, as the high priest
- 3:52Speaker 2: enters the sanctuary yearly, with the blood of another. Otherwise
- 3:56Speaker 2: he would have had to suffer many times since the
- 3:58Speaker 2: foundation of the world. And now he has appeared one
- 4:01Speaker 2: time at the end of the ages, for the removal
- 4:04Speaker 2: of sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as
- 4:07Speaker 2: it is appointed for people to die once and after
- 4:10Speaker 2: this the judgment, so also Christ, having been offered once
- 4:14Speaker 2: to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time,
- 4:17Speaker 2: not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those
- 4:20Speaker 2: who are waiting for him. On Tuesday, we talked about
- 4:25Speaker 2: verses eleven through fourteen already, but I want to go
- 4:28Speaker 2: back over them real quick, just to give more context
- 4:31Speaker 2: as to what we're talking about today. It says, but
- 4:34Speaker 2: Christ has appeared as a high priest of the good
- 4:36Speaker 2: things that have come in the greater and more perfect tabernacle,
- 4:40Speaker 2: not made with hands, that is not of this creation.
- 4:43Speaker 2: He entered the most holy place once for all time. Okay,
- 4:48Speaker 2: so that's talking about the heavenly tabernacle. Jesus does not
- 4:52Speaker 2: have a priesthood made with earthly things. His priesthood is heavenly.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Verse twelve, it says he entered the most holy place
- 5:00Speaker 2: once for all time, the heavenly One, not by the
- 5:03Speaker 2: blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood,
- 5:06Speaker 2: having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats
- 5:10Speaker 2: and bulls and the ashes of a young cow sprinkled
- 5:13Speaker 2: those who are defiled sanctify for the purification of the flesh,
- 5:17Speaker 2: how much more will the blood of Christ, who through
- 5:19Speaker 2: the eternal Spirit, offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse
- 5:23Speaker 2: our consciences from the dead works that we can serve
- 5:27Speaker 2: the living God. So that is all talking about. How
- 5:29Speaker 2: the Old Testament, you know, if you go back and
- 5:31Speaker 2: read it, they were really big on animal sacrifices because
- 5:34Speaker 2: they had to be, because that was the temporary solution
- 5:37Speaker 2: for their sins. It actually says in verse twenty two
- 5:42Speaker 2: here that without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.
- 5:46Speaker 2: So the people in the Old Testament days would offer
- 5:49Speaker 2: the animal sacrifices in order to be temporarily forgiven of
- 5:54Speaker 2: their sins, but it was not a long term solution.
- 5:58Speaker 2: There had to be a permanent solution for the issue
- 6:02Speaker 2: of forgiveness, which is why Jesus sacrificed his own blood
- 6:08Speaker 2: in order to forgive people permanently. And now that he
- 6:11Speaker 2: has done that, the earthly Temple and the Old Testament
- 6:15Speaker 2: sacrifices are no longer necessary. That is why Christians do
- 6:20Speaker 2: not offer animal sacrifices because they are pointless. It's just
- 6:24Speaker 2: pointless death. Because Jesus has already done it, He's already
- 6:29Speaker 2: forgiven us, it says in verse fifteen. Therefore, he is
- 6:32Speaker 2: the mediator of a new covenant so that those who
- 6:36Speaker 2: are called might receive the promise of the eternal inheritance
- 6:39Speaker 2: because a death has taken place for redemption from transgressions
- 6:43Speaker 2: committed under the first Covenant.
- 6:46Speaker 1: So there you go.
- 6:47Speaker 2: The animal sacrifices were just not enough to get to
- 6:50Speaker 2: the core issue. It was a temporary solution, but not
- 6:54Speaker 2: a permanent solution. But now Jesus has offered a permanent
- 6:58Speaker 2: solution for all the transgressions committed under the First Covenant
- 7:03Speaker 2: and beyond into the New Covenant. And now in verse sixteen,
- 7:08Speaker 2: the author, it kind of seems like takes a tangent,
- 7:11Speaker 2: like goes down a rabbit trail, but he really doesn't.
- 7:13Speaker 1: So here's what he says.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Where a will exists, the death of one who made
- 7:17Speaker 2: it must be established, for a will is valid only
- 7:20Speaker 2: when people die, since it is never in effect while
- 7:23Speaker 2: the one who made it is living. So you're probably like, why,
- 7:28Speaker 2: all of a sudden is this author talking about will
- 7:31Speaker 2: and Testament? And honestly, I thought the exact same thing,
- 7:34Speaker 2: because I had never considered the Old Covenant or the
- 7:38Speaker 2: Old Testament to be a will for the people, and
- 7:42Speaker 2: saying goes for the New Covenant or the New Testament
- 7:44Speaker 2: as well, it is a will for the people. And
- 7:48Speaker 2: he might be like, how is the Old and New
- 7:50Speaker 2: Testament wills for the people? Well, because both are promises
- 7:54Speaker 2: to what the people will receive. In the Old Testament,
- 7:59Speaker 2: God promised that the people would receive their inheritance or
- 8:03Speaker 2: the promised land, and also the prosperity of God. That
- 8:08Speaker 2: was what the Old Covenant promised their inheritance would be,
- 8:11Speaker 2: and the New Covenant promises the inheritance of salvation. So yes,
- 8:17Speaker 2: the Old Covenant where the Old Testament is a will
- 8:20Speaker 2: and testament to the people, and same goes for the
- 8:23Speaker 2: New Testament as well. Interestingly enough, but these wills are
- 8:27Speaker 2: only established through death. Just as you know somebody today,
- 8:31Speaker 2: if they write up a will, it is not going
- 8:33Speaker 2: to go into effect until after they die. So both
- 8:37Speaker 2: covenants old and new needed to be associated with death,
- 8:42Speaker 2: and the Old Covenant was in fact associated with death.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Here's what it says in verse eighteen. That is why
- 8:48Speaker 2: even the first Covenant was inaugurated with blood. For when
- 8:52Speaker 2: every command had been proclaimed by Moses to all the
- 8:54Speaker 2: people according to the law, he took the blood of
- 8:57Speaker 2: the calves and the goats, along with water, scarlet, wool,
- 9:01Speaker 2: and hissop, and sprinkled the scroll itself and all the people, saying,
- 9:06Speaker 2: this is the blood of the Covenant that God has
- 9:09Speaker 2: ordained for you. In other words, this is the blood
- 9:12Speaker 2: of this will that God has ordained for you. And
- 9:15Speaker 2: that is talked about in Exodus twenty four if you're
- 9:18Speaker 2: interested in reading that on your own. But essentially, Moses
- 9:22Speaker 2: established the Old Testament covenant with the people through the
- 9:26Speaker 2: blood of the goats and the calves, so through animal
- 9:29Speaker 2: sacrifice essentially, And he had to sprinkle the scroll and
- 9:31Speaker 2: the altar, and in the same way it says in
- 9:34Speaker 2: verse twenty one, he had to sprinkle the tabernacle and
- 9:37Speaker 2: all the articles of worship with blood. So basically Moses
- 9:41Speaker 2: was sprinkling blood all over the place, on the people,
- 9:43Speaker 2: on the altar, on the Covenant itself, on the tabernacle,
- 9:47Speaker 2: and all the articles of worship, and these things had
- 9:50Speaker 2: to be purified with blood over and over and over
- 9:52Speaker 2: again every single year. So blood was necessary in order
- 9:57Speaker 2: to have the Old Covenant go into effect. And here's
- 10:00Speaker 2: why verse twenty two. According to the law, almost everything
- 10:05Speaker 2: is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood,
- 10:09Speaker 2: there is no forgiveness. So there were a few reasons
- 10:12Speaker 2: why all of this blood sprinkling was going on in
- 10:15Speaker 2: the Old Testament and why animal sacrifices were constantly being done,
- 10:20Speaker 2: because not only did it put the Old Covenant into
- 10:23Speaker 2: effect through the death of the animal, but It also
- 10:27Speaker 2: gave the people temporary forgiveness until a permanent solution was found.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness. Now,
- 10:39Speaker 2: why is blood necessary for forgiveness? You might be asking.
- 10:43Speaker 2: You might be like, that sounds so weird. Can't God
- 10:46Speaker 2: just forgive us? Why is all this blood necessary? Well,
- 10:50Speaker 2: let's go back to the old Covenant and try to
- 10:52Speaker 2: find the answer here in Leviticus seventeen ten through fourteen.
- 10:57Speaker 2: This is from the Web version, starting in verse ten,
- 11:00Speaker 2: any man of the house of Israel, or of the
- 11:03Speaker 2: strangers who live as foreigners among them, who eats any
- 11:06Speaker 2: kind of blood, I will set my face against that
- 11:09Speaker 2: soul who eats blood, and I will cut him off
- 11:12Speaker 2: from among his people. For the life of the flesh
- 11:14Speaker 2: is in the blood. I have given it to you
- 11:17Speaker 2: on the altar to make atonement for your souls, For
- 11:20Speaker 2: it is the blood that makes atonement by reason of
- 11:23Speaker 2: the life. Therefore, I have said to the children of Israel,
- 11:26Speaker 2: no person among you may eat blood, nor may any
- 11:29Speaker 2: stranger who lives as a foreigner among you eat blood.
- 11:33Speaker 2: And that's actually repeated multiple times in Leviticus seventeen that
- 11:37Speaker 2: people should not be eating blood why because the life
- 11:41Speaker 2: is in the blood. So blood equals life, and consequently
- 11:46Speaker 2: it also equals death. When it is inside the animal
- 11:50Speaker 2: or inside yourself, it is your life. When it is
- 11:54Speaker 2: outside the animal and outside yourself, that means death. So
- 11:58Speaker 2: keep in mind that blood equals life. In order to
- 12:02Speaker 2: be forgiven of sins, you have to have life because
- 12:07Speaker 2: sin equals death. And here's why sin equals death. Jesus
- 12:12Speaker 2: talks about this in John fourteen, starting in verse four.
- 12:16Speaker 2: This is Jesus himself speaking to his disciples. He says,
- 12:20Speaker 2: you know where I go, and you know the way.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Thomas said to him, Lord, we don't know where you're going.
- 12:26Speaker 2: How can we know the way? Jesus said to him,
- 12:29Speaker 2: I am the Way, the Truth, and the life. No
- 12:32Speaker 2: one comes to the Father except through me. If you
- 12:35Speaker 2: had known me, you would have known my father. Also
- 12:38Speaker 2: from now on, you know him and have seen him.
- 12:42Speaker 2: So Jesus tells his disciples. This is right before he's
- 12:44Speaker 2: about to go to the cross by the way, and
- 12:46Speaker 2: he tells his disciples He's like, look, I am going
- 12:48Speaker 2: to prepare a place for you. He says, if I
- 12:51Speaker 2: go to prepare a place for you, I am going
- 12:53Speaker 2: to come again, and he says, you know where I'm
- 12:56Speaker 2: going and you know the way, and his disciples are
- 12:59Speaker 2: super confused, like what are you talking about. He's like,
- 13:02Speaker 2: we don't know where you're going. How are we supposed
- 13:04Speaker 2: to know the way? And Jesus answers, I am the Way,
- 13:08Speaker 2: the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the
- 13:12Speaker 2: Father except through me. So Jesus tells his disciples I
- 13:17Speaker 2: am the Way, I am the Truth, I am the Life.
- 13:21Speaker 2: And then in verses seven through eleven, he actually equates
- 13:25Speaker 2: himself with God the Father. He says, I am in
- 13:27Speaker 2: the Father, and the Father is in me. So Jesus says,
- 13:30Speaker 2: I am God. I am the same as God the Father,
- 13:33Speaker 2: and I am the Way. I am the Truth, and
- 13:35Speaker 2: I am the Life. When humanity chose to sin, we
- 13:41Speaker 2: rejected the way, We rejected the truth, and we also
- 13:46Speaker 2: rejected the life. That is why sin equals death, because
- 13:52Speaker 2: it's a rejection of the source of life itself. Back
- 13:58Speaker 2: in the Garden of Eden, God hold Adam in Genesis
- 14:01Speaker 2: chapter two, if you eat from the tree of knowledge
- 14:04Speaker 2: of good and evil, you will surely die. And that
- 14:07Speaker 2: was not talking about a physical kind of death, though
- 14:10Speaker 2: that's part of it. But it was a spiritual death,
- 14:15Speaker 2: a severing of the tie between humanity and God. When
- 14:21Speaker 2: Adam and Eve ate that tree and disobeyed God and
- 14:24Speaker 2: committed the first sin, they literally severed themselves from life itself.
- 14:30Speaker 2: So we have basically cut ourselves off from the root.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Just as when you pluck a flower that is growing
- 14:38Speaker 2: out of the ground, it will die in a few days.
- 14:40Speaker 2: It doesn't die immediately, right. I have some tulips actually
- 14:44Speaker 2: in the other room. They've been alive for quite a while,
- 14:46Speaker 2: but they're starting to look kind of brown now after
- 14:49Speaker 2: a few days, because when you cut them from the root,
- 14:53Speaker 2: they begin to die. Humanity in the Garden of Eden
- 14:57Speaker 2: was created to be attached to the root of life,
- 15:01Speaker 2: and we cut ourselves from that root by sinning. Because
- 15:06Speaker 2: sin is the opposite of life, and it's the opposite
- 15:09Speaker 2: of perfection. It equals death. So that is why people
- 15:13Speaker 2: who sin must die. Everyone who sins is going to die.
- 15:18Speaker 2: And unfortunately, when Adam and Eve took that fruit, sin
- 15:22Speaker 2: entered into the world and we started to die, which
- 15:25Speaker 2: is why we are born into a imperfect world that
- 15:29Speaker 2: has death in it. So now we have to get
- 15:32Speaker 2: back to the only source of life, and the only
- 15:35Speaker 2: source of life is Jesus himself. And if blood equals life,
- 15:40Speaker 2: then Jesus shedding his blood for us was him giving
- 15:45Speaker 2: his life for us on our behalf. In fact, it
- 15:48Speaker 2: was the only way to save people from this death.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Jesus himself proved that by going to the cross and
- 15:54Speaker 2: by pleading to God, God, if there's any other way,
- 15:57Speaker 2: please let me do that, And there wasn't. The Only
- 16:01Speaker 2: thing that cancels out death is the life of a sacrifice,
- 16:07Speaker 2: and Jesus he was the perfect sacrifice. But going back
- 16:11Speaker 2: to Hebrews nine twenty three, it says, therefore it was
- 16:15Speaker 2: necessary for the copies of the things of heaven to
- 16:18Speaker 2: be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves
- 16:22Speaker 2: to be purified with better sacrifices than these. So the
- 16:25Speaker 2: author is getting to the point that I kind of
- 16:26Speaker 2: already made. Maybe I should have, you know, gone back
- 16:30Speaker 2: to Hebrews before making my final point there. But essentially
- 16:33Speaker 2: all the Old Testament stuff, which was again copies of
- 16:37Speaker 2: heavenly things. You know, we talked about all that on Tuesday.
- 16:40Speaker 2: The Temple was a copy of the heavenly Temple. The
- 16:43Speaker 2: Covenant was a copy of the heavenly things. Everything was
- 16:46Speaker 2: a copy, right, because they were just copies. They had
- 16:50Speaker 2: to be purified with the sacrifices of the animals. But
- 16:54Speaker 2: the heavenly things, you know, the things that Jesus himself
- 16:57Speaker 2: is a part of, had to be purified with. Better
- 17:00Speaker 2: are sacrifices than the blood of goats and bulls Verse
- 17:04Speaker 2: twenty four. For Christ did not enter a sanctuary, which
- 17:08Speaker 2: is only a model of the true one, but into
- 17:10Speaker 2: Heaven itself, so that he might appear in the presence
- 17:13Speaker 2: of God. For us. Remember how I said that we
- 17:18Speaker 2: snipped ourselves from the root of life. Because of that
- 17:24Speaker 2: we cannot dwell with God. God is perfection, and perfection
- 17:29Speaker 2: is required in order to be able to live with God.
- 17:33Speaker 2: And why is that well, because death and life are
- 17:36Speaker 2: complete opposites. You cannot have death where there is life.
- 17:41Speaker 2: You are either dead or you are alive. Kind of
- 17:44Speaker 2: in the Princess Bride, you know where what's his face?
- 17:47Speaker 2: What's his name? I forget his name? He was mostly
- 17:50Speaker 2: dead but slightly alive. Everybody understands that you cannot be
- 17:56Speaker 2: both dead and alive. You have to be either one
- 17:59Speaker 2: or the other. So in order to live with God,
- 18:03Speaker 2: who is life himself, there cannot be any death. It
- 18:07Speaker 2: just does not work. So in order to be able
- 18:10Speaker 2: to live with God, we have to be free from
- 18:13Speaker 2: death and free from imperfection, so that we can once
- 18:16Speaker 2: again be tied back to that root of life. And
- 18:20Speaker 2: the only way to get rid of our status of
- 18:22Speaker 2: sin and death is by somebody else dying in our
- 18:27Speaker 2: place or giving us their life. And that, of course,
- 18:31Speaker 2: was what Jesus did for us. Now, back in the
- 18:34Speaker 2: Old Testament times, the people were waiting for the perfect sacrifice. Yes,
- 18:39Speaker 2: the blood of the goats and the bulls and the
- 18:42Speaker 2: lambs and the calves and whatever else. That was a
- 18:44Speaker 2: temporary solution, but it was not a permanent solution. It
- 18:48Speaker 2: did not get to the core of their imperfection. They
- 18:51Speaker 2: needed a perfect, permanent solution, somebody to offer his life
- 18:57Speaker 2: on their behalf. And Jesus was the only one who
- 19:00Speaker 2: is able to do this. Nobody else could do this.
- 19:03Speaker 2: And this is why God hated human sacrifice so much
- 19:06Speaker 2: in the Old Testament, because it was pointless, it was useless,
- 19:09Speaker 2: it was disgusting. He hated it. It did not work,
- 19:13Speaker 2: it would never work. The only sacrifice that would work
- 19:16Speaker 2: was Jesus himself. So Jesus did this for us. And
- 19:20Speaker 2: so to conclude, in Hebrews chapter nine, it says in
- 19:22Speaker 2: verse twenty five, he did not do this to offer
- 19:25Speaker 2: himself many times, as the high priest enters the sanctuary
- 19:29Speaker 2: yearly with the blood of another. Otherwise he would have
- 19:32Speaker 2: had to suffer many times since the foundation of the world.
- 19:36Speaker 2: But now he has appeared one time at the end
- 19:39Speaker 2: of the ages, for the removal of sin by the
- 19:42Speaker 2: sacrifice of himself. So that makes it very clear Jesus
- 19:47Speaker 2: did this once for all time. I do not believe
- 19:50Speaker 2: that he is reliving it over and over and over again.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Makes it pretty clear that in one moment in history,
- 19:56Speaker 2: Jesus sacrificed himself for all time periods, past, present, and future.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Jesus was the perfect sacrifice. He only had to die
- 20:06Speaker 2: one time, and he is not reoffering himself over and
- 20:10Speaker 2: over and over again. It was only necessary once, it says.
- 20:14Speaker 2: And just as it is appointed for people to die
- 20:16Speaker 2: once and after this judgment, so also Christ, having been
- 20:20Speaker 2: offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear
- 20:24Speaker 2: a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring
- 20:27Speaker 2: salvation to those who are waiting for him, And that
- 20:32Speaker 2: is the inheritance of the New Covenant that when Jesus return,
- 20:37Speaker 2: he is going to bring salvation completely because when we
- 20:41Speaker 2: believe in Jesus, we are going to be able to
- 20:44Speaker 2: live with him forever. Now, that might be a question
- 20:47Speaker 2: that you're wondering, is why do we have to believe
- 20:51Speaker 2: in Jesus.
- 20:52Speaker 1: You know, if Jesus.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Sacrificed himself for our sins so that we can be clean,
- 20:58Speaker 2: why is belief in him necessary? In fact, it might
- 21:00Speaker 2: even seem unfair to you that we have to believe
- 21:03Speaker 2: in Jesus in order to gain salvation. Well, the reason
- 21:06Speaker 2: belief is necessary in Jesus goes back to John fourteen
- 21:10Speaker 2: once again, where Jesus said that he is the way,
- 21:13Speaker 2: he is the truth, and he is the life. So
- 21:17Speaker 2: if you refuse to have any kind of relationship with Jesus,
- 21:21Speaker 2: that means that you're actually rejecting the way. You are
- 21:24Speaker 2: rejecting the truth, and you are rejecting life itself.
- 21:29Speaker 1: So that is why belief in.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Jesus is necessary to obtain salvation, because then you are
- 21:35Speaker 2: not rejecting this life that he is actually offering to you.
- 21:39Speaker 2: It might feel unfair and I guess I can understand
- 21:43Speaker 2: why a lot of people might think that. But if
- 21:45Speaker 2: you reject the life, then that means that you're doing
- 21:48Speaker 2: nothing different than what Adam and Eve did when they
- 21:51Speaker 2: committed the original sin of rejecting God. You know, because ultimately,
- 21:56Speaker 2: when Adam and Eve took that fruit and ate it,
- 21:58Speaker 2: they rejected the life that God gave them. That is
- 22:02Speaker 2: the original sin. So when you reject Jesus, you are
- 22:07Speaker 2: doing that original sin and cutting yourself off from the
- 22:11Speaker 2: root of life itself. Because Jesus, only Jesus is the Way,
- 22:16Speaker 2: the truth, and the life, so you must believe in
- 22:21Speaker 2: him in order to gain this salvation for yourself. He's
- 22:24Speaker 2: got to become your high priest. If you are making
- 22:27Speaker 2: anything else your high priest, then that is a false
- 22:30Speaker 2: high priest that is not going to give you anything.
- 22:33Speaker 2: It is not going to get you closer to God
- 22:35Speaker 2: the Father. It is just going to keep you in
- 22:38Speaker 2: that cycle of sin and death. You need a perfect
- 22:43Speaker 2: high priest in order to get to God the Father.
- 22:46Speaker 2: So that is why belief in Jesus is necessary for
- 22:50Speaker 2: the salvation of your soul. It is so interesting how
- 22:54Speaker 2: today's episode, I feel like is such a basic concept,
- 22:58Speaker 2: and yet there's so much to it at the exact
- 23:01Speaker 2: same time. Like sometimes us Christians who have been Christians
- 23:04Speaker 2: for a really long time and have heard this our
- 23:06Speaker 2: entire lives, we almost take for granted what Jesus did
- 23:10Speaker 2: up on the cross, and we don't really think about it.
- 23:12Speaker 2: We don't think about how he is the Way, the Truth,
- 23:15Speaker 2: and the life. But it is so important for us
- 23:17Speaker 2: to understand that. So I hope you guys enjoyed today's episode,
- 23:21Speaker 2: and I hope that you take it with you and
- 23:22Speaker 2: that you think about it throughout the rest of the week. Now,
- 23:25Speaker 2: as you guys know, on Fridays, I do an episode
- 23:28Speaker 2: only for the members, So if you're interested in continuing
- 23:31Speaker 2: with the Bible Explain podcast, then you've got to become
- 23:34Speaker 2: a member to gain access to the Bible Explained on Fridays,
- 23:38Speaker 2: where we're going through the Book of the Psalms. Now,
- 23:40Speaker 2: faithful listeners. Before I end today's episode with a few
- 23:43Speaker 2: closing notes, here is one last sponsored ad. So I
- 23:49Speaker 2: want to say for those of you who listen to
- 23:51Speaker 2: the sponsored ads, every once in a while you might
- 23:53Speaker 2: hear an ad that's a little bit bizarre. I think
- 23:57Speaker 2: that there is like an Ashley Madison ad that was
- 24:00Speaker 2: playing on my podcast for a while. And I can
- 24:02Speaker 2: tell you guys that I don't want those advertising companies
- 24:05Speaker 2: promoting on my podcast at all. But the way they're
- 24:09Speaker 2: able to get onto podcasts like mine is they lie.
- 24:12Speaker 2: They classify themselves as something that they are not, and
- 24:17Speaker 2: they're able to get on my podcast and other Christian
- 24:19Speaker 2: podcasts as well.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Now, the Life Audio team that I.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Work with, they do a really good job at trying
- 24:25Speaker 2: to filter out some of these really weird advertisements. They
- 24:28Speaker 2: have people that listen, but every once in a while,
- 24:31Speaker 2: like I said, an advertisement like that will get through.
- 24:34Speaker 2: So if you notice a weird ad that I don't
- 24:36Speaker 2: pick up or the Life Audio team doesn't pick up,
- 24:39Speaker 2: then please contact me, help me out, help this podcast out,
- 24:42Speaker 2: because if there's a strange advertisement, it can look bad
- 24:46Speaker 2: to the gospel message and I do not want that
- 24:49Speaker 2: on my podcast.
- 24:50Speaker 1: So I'm going to ask you guys, if you.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Hear anything strange, like a casino or a sex shop
- 24:55Speaker 2: or a weird dating platform, please let me know by
- 24:59Speaker 2: emailing the email address that is listed in the description
- 25:02Speaker 2: of this episode and tell me when you heard the advertisement,
- 25:05Speaker 2: what it was advertising and the podcast episode that you
- 25:10Speaker 2: heard it on. That would be very beneficial to me
- 25:12Speaker 2: and the Life Audio team if you could do that.
- 25:15Speaker 2: But faithful listeners, I hope you have a fantastic and
- 25:17Speaker 2: wonderful weekend. If I don't see you guys tomorrow for
- 25:20Speaker 2: the Bible Explained on Fridays, I hope to see all.
