• 0:43

• 0:51
SPEAKER_00: Applicants must secure a nomination from an Australian agency or expert.

SPEAKER_00: The government prioritizes applications in this order.
• 1:00
SPEAKER_00: Priority one, winners of prestigious international awards.
• 1:04
SPEAKER_00: Priority two, government-nominated entrepreneurs and investors in innovation fields.
• 1:09
SPEAKER_00: Priorities three and four, skilled professionals in innovative sectors.
• 1:14
SPEAKER_00: The NIV does not impose language requirements.
• 1:17
SPEAKER_00: The NIV inherits the framework of the GTI visa, both of which are under subclass eight hundred and fifty-eight.
• 1:24
SPEAKER_00: Like its predecessor, the NIV targets individuals with internationally recognized, outstanding achievements in their field.
• 1:32
SPEAKER_00: Applicants must first submit an expression of interest, also known as EO1, and secure an invitation to apply, supported by nominations from industry experts or related bodies.
• 1:45
SPEAKER_00: However, the NIV introduces considerable changes.
• 1:48
SPEAKER_00: While the GTI focused on attracting talent across 10 priority sectors, the NIV prioritizes individuals with prestigious international awards or those whom Australian government agencies nominate.
• 2:00
SPEAKER_00: The NIV blends elements from various global visa programs, including the US EB1A, National Interest Waiver, or NIW, and Canada's startup visa, creating a more inclusive and dynamic offering.
• 2:13
SPEAKER_00: The NIV aligns with Australia's evolving national priorities by accommodating a broader range of professions and innovators.
• 2:21
SPEAKER_00: As Australia continues to hack down all its investment migration streams and revamp its immigration framework, the NIV is one of the few options that has a direct PR pathway that could work for entrepreneurs.
• 2:32
SPEAKER_00: Here's how the NIV compares to other prominent visas.
• 2:35
SPEAKER_00: Subclass 188 or Business Innovation and Investment Visa.
• 2:40
SPEAKER_00: This provisional visa for entrepreneurs and investors requires a points test and state territory sponsorship.
• 2:47
SPEAKER_00: Unlike the NIV, it imposes location-based restrictions on the applicant's investment or business.
• 2:53
SPEAKER_00: Subclass 189 or Skilled Independent Visa.
• 2:57
SPEAKER_00: A points tested PR visa for workers and occupations on the skilled occupation list.
• 3:02
SPEAKER_00: Unlike the NIV, it requires no nomination but demands high scores on the points test.
• 3:08
SPEAKER_00: Subclass 190 or Skilled Nominated Visa.
• 3:12
SPEAKER_00: This PR visa requires state territory nomination and mandates living in the nominating region for at least two years, alongside a points test.
• 3:21
SPEAKER_00: Subclass 491, Skilled Work Regional Visa.
• 3:26
SPEAKER_00: A provisional visa for regional workers, requiring a points test and commitment to living in regional Australia.
• 3:32
SPEAKER_00: The NIV may be the least restrictive of these programs.
• 3:36
SPEAKER_00: However, its high achievement threshold sets a competitive bar for applicants.
• 3:40
SPEAKER_00: The NIV's process mirrors the US EB1A and NIW visas, targeting top-tier global talent.
• 3:47
SPEAKER_00: However, it surpasses both in inclusivity and cost effectiveness.
• 3:51
SPEAKER_00: Key differences include the NIV requires higher applicant achievements than the NIW or EB1A.
• 3:58
SPEAKER_00: It offers faster processing and includes children under 23 in PR applications, making it family-friendly.
• 4:05
  SPEAKER_00: Unlike the U.S.
• 4:06
SPEAKER_00: system, the NIV sidesteps lengthy visa bulletin wait times, appealing to professionals seeking expedited pathways.
• 4:13
SPEAKER_00: The NIV's entrepreneurial track shares similarities with Canada's SUV, but has a stronger emphasis on implemented investments and real-world impact.
• 4:23
SPEAKER_00: While the SUV prioritizes innovative business ideas, the NIV favors proven entrepreneurial results.
• 4:30
SPEAKER_00: I believe the NIV represents a considerable step forward in Australia's strategy to shift immigration from traditional passive investment to more focused, active, and innovative immigration.
• 4:42
SPEAKER_00: While the program is certainly not suitable for everyone, it can be a simplified route for certain entrepreneurs.
• 4:48
SPEAKER_00: However, even if it is still more inclusive than other innovative or talent-based residency programs, it restricts its applicants to a very specific niche.
• 4:57
SPEAKER_00: It seems as if Australia has taken the parts it likes from the GTI and other programs in Canada and the US to create a program that could be the face of the new Australian immigration landscape.
• 5:09
SPEAKER_00: As the global competition for talent intensifies, the NIV positions Australia as a leading destination for the world's brightest minds, but it may close the door on significant FDI that classical Australian programs had brought in with ease.
