- 0:01The vital nature in particular is addicted to drama, it seeks
- 0:06attention and excitement and added complication is that in
- 0:11modern society with our fixation on all types of electronic
- 0:15stimulation, Internet, mobile phones, radio, television,
- 0:20cinema, along with neon signs, blaring ads and loud speakers
- 0:25etcetera, we find that the nervous being and the vital
- 0:29nature are kept in a state of constant agitation.
- 0:35This type of energetic status makes it hard, if not virtually
- 0:38impossible to open and be receptive to the higher forces
- 0:43that are trying to manifest. The optimal state of awareness
- 0:47is 1 of quietude and serene receptivity.
- 0:51The more we cater to the vitals, call for struggle, suffering and
- 0:56disruptive efforts, the less we maintain the readiness to both
- 1:00receive and accept the higher forces and let them work in the
- 1:06being. How then can we undertake any
- 1:09form of spiritual practice in the modern world?
- 1:13As long as we remain absorbed in the external life and live on
- 1:17the surface of our being, we are subject to reacting to every
- 1:21impulse that comes our way, to the point that our spiritual
- 1:25focus can become obscured by the noise of the outer world as it
- 1:30impinges upon us, as well as our internal reaction to that noise.
- 1:36The signal that represents the focused energy and consciousness
- 1:40of the higher force that tries to manifest is obscured by this
- 1:44noise. Swami Vivekananda in his
- 1:49lectures on Raji Yoga describes the state of agitation of the
- 1:53nervous pathways and the mind stuff.
- 1:56He provides various ways to calm the being to a state of clear
- 2:00receptivity. There are in fact any number of
- 2:04methods dependent upon where the seeker is in his sadhna at the
- 2:08time. Sri Rabindu and the Mother do
- 2:12not ask us to rely on any specific technique, although we
- 2:16can use these tools if need be and if appropriate to the
- 2:21situation. Rather, they focus on the larger
- 2:25attitudinal poise of the being. This provides the framework for
- 2:29all other actions to support the spiritual effort.
- 2:33The primary method is the shift of the consciousness away from
- 2:37the ego personality and its daily drama to either the Higher
- 2:42Self, the Atman, or to the psychic being, the sole entity
- 2:49spark of the Divine deep within the psychic being naturally
- 2:54maintains an attitude of aspiration, consecration and
- 2:58receptivity that represents the ideal state of awareness for the
- 3:03spiritual seeker. The Mother writes quote.
- 3:08To live within in a constant aspiration for the Divine
- 3:13enables us to look at life with a smile and to remain peaceful
- 3:18whatever the outer circumstances may be.
- 3:22End Quote. Fioro Vendo observes quote.
- 3:27Always seek to progress in quietude, happiness and
- 3:31confidence. That is the most helpful
- 3:34attitude. Do not listen to contrary
- 3:37suggestions from outside. End Quote.
