- 0:00Tracks, the Galaxy's most unpredictable Star Trek podcast. Hello and welcome to Chuck
- 0:20Cast, the Galaxy's most unpredictable podcast. I am with me as always is
- 0:30Daniel Reyes. I think Scott Boughters is here. I don't know. Yeah,
- 0:35I don't know. Is he he just teleported in? He did?
- 0:38I am here? He did. Meanwhile, Chas Bizin is sending text messages
- 0:45on the side, like I don't think he's coming, guys, I mean,
- 0:50do you want me to fill in for Scott today? Am I gonna
- 0:53have to get rid of him? Like? Oh, never mind? What
- 0:56you better? You better watch your back, man, I see that,
- 1:00I see that. Yeah. All I'm saying, so do you have do
- 1:06you have any uh, do you have any body armor leftover from your military
- 1:08days? I can either confirm nor deny that. I'm just I'm just saying,
- 1:15were the trauma plate in the back right? Lovely? According to chastiz
- 1:30Wow, but I'm here, I'm here. Yeah, I know, I
- 1:36doing good, doing good. Yeah. Yesterday we uh we drove up to
- 1:42Holland, Michigan and went to the Dutch village and they've got like a an
- 1:48area up there where you can you know they've got all the employees wear wooden
- 1:51shoes and you can see demonstrations and stuff like that. It's about family.
- 1:56To pull out your wooden shoes you Yeah, I did. I did pull
- 2:00out the wooden shoes and cool. So yeah, it was a good time.
- 2:04We visited some friends that were camping up there and yeah, so Italian
- 2:07moms throw wooden spoons as part of a uh, you know, maintaining discipline.
- 2:15Yeah, what is that? It's a flip flop flip flop. Okay,
- 2:21So I'm wondering. I'm wondering, is there is you know, do
- 2:23Dutch do Dutch moms throw wooden shoes? I don't know. Did they clog
- 2:30you? Like you better knock it off or I'm gonna clog you. And
- 2:34see, I've been meaning to look up to see if wooden shoes were actually
- 2:37called sabo in in Dutch, because Lieutenant Valaris tells that story about workers who
- 2:45were threatened by automation flung their wooden shoes called sabo into the machines to stop
- 2:47them, hence the word sabotage. Yeah, I remember, I remember wanting
- 2:52to look that up about a thousand times and forgetting never do it. I
- 2:57mean, that's so obscure. I have to see you not the only one.
- 3:00NERD alert, NERD alert early already. Oh man, I know how
- 3:12to bring it back to trek. Bring it back, bring it back.
- 3:15Everything is everything is trek. Every It doesn't matter what situation you're in,
- 3:23there's star trek around you. I was yard sailing yesterday. Yeah, okay,
- 3:29And so you know, I do this a couple of times a year.
- 3:32I'll just head out on a Saturday or Sunday to spend the day yard
- 3:36sailing, and you kind of you kind of start to notice trends. And
- 3:38one of the trends that I noticed this year is there is a big dump
- 3:46of physical media, like oh yeah, like the DVDs and the Blu rays
- 3:51are showing up at yard sales hard. And the difference between this year and
- 3:58last year is like, you know, they're twenty five cents each, right,
- 4:04twenty five get rid of them. Yeah. Yeah. So I went
- 4:08to this I went to this yard sale in Saugerties. I met this guy
- 4:11named Chuck Chuck from Sagrates. But I commented to him, I said,
- 4:15you know, you can't give these things away. I remember twenty years ago.
- 4:19I used to every week I'd spend twenty thirty forty fifty bucks on on
- 4:24DVDs. And he says, oh, yeah, even the even the season
- 4:29sets. There's a couple over there, they're you know, they're really cheap.
- 4:30And I look over there and there was this one of the season sets
- 4:34from Deep Space nine. So I picked it up. I held it up
- 4:39and said, let me tell you some I'm a huge trekkie. And I
- 4:42remember when these were coming out twenty four years ago, and every two weeks
- 4:46I spent one hundred and twenty dollars on one of these when they here every
- 4:51other month, whatever it was. And he proceeds to tell me what a
- 4:55big treky he is as well. He plays start check online. He pointed
- 5:00to his Uh, he pointed to his van. He's got a Starfleet emblem
- 5:04on his van. So of course, right, just did that Chuck from
- 5:12Sogrates listen to check cast the Galaxy's Most Unpredictable Star Trek podcast. Heck yeah,
- 5:17so I don't know. So I don't know if he's listening, but
- 5:24you know, Chuck from Sogerties, if you're listening, Uh, hey,
- 5:27what's up, bros? That's really cool. Yeah, that's really cool.
- 5:30So I did not buy his DVD. I know that. Oh yeah.
- 5:39Uh does this mean we're gonna go out to garage sales next week? Dan,
- 5:46Well, I'm coming Friday. That's true. Friday, I don't know.
- 5:51I don't know about in Idaho, but Friday afternoon garage sales sort of
- 5:55thing. And well really yeah, that's the real thing and Idaho. Yeah,
- 6:00a lot of people doing Friday afternoons. So yeah, I'm down.
- 6:03Okay, are you guys excited about next weekend? That's gonna be Yeah,
- 6:09the yard sales, yes, I'm yes. I think my neighbors are having
- 6:15some, so I'll check it out. Yeah. Yeah, we'll be going
- 6:19to trek Long Island next week. I'm flying it on Thursday, and yeah,
- 6:25I'm I'm very excited to be there. What is the name of that
- 6:29town? I know it's on Long Island, but you're asking me? Come
- 6:32on, there's like three different names every time I google it, like Bohemia,
- 6:36New York and oh yeah, So what happens Okay, So what happens
- 6:42a lot? I don't know if this happens other places, but what happens
- 6:46a lot in New York Is. You'll have a town, and within that
- 6:50town there's a village, or within that town there is a hamlet, which
- 6:59doesn't have any political subdivision. There's no mayor of a hamlet. It's just
- 7:02this is a neighborhood, and we call this area of the town by this
- 7:06name. And if the post office happens to be in the village or the
- 7:11hamlet. Because of the zip code system, the federal government doesn't care where
- 7:15you actually live. They care which five digit number we're sending this mail to.
- 7:18Right, So there's a lot of situations where you live in the town
- 7:23of such and such, but the post office that delivers your mail goes by
- 7:28this name, which is the name of another town. So Dan and I
- 7:31have no idea, or Daniel and I have no idea what you're talking about,
- 7:34because I don't know about you, Daniel. I do not live in
- 7:36a town with the population of over two million. So no post malls has
- 7:43maybe got ten thousand, maybe ten thousands, Okay, okay, so they
- 7:46don't they don't have to sublet these little tidy villages. And that's right,
- 7:53that's right. I get to borrow the internet for the town, and then
- 7:59I have to give it back to you know who's over the next right to
- 8:01Mayor Bob, to Mayor Bob. Yeah yeah, well sorry he actually sorry.
- 8:09You guys live in the middle of nowhere, right, yes, anyway,
- 8:15yeah, well we should probably get to our really big announcement real quick
- 8:20right off the top. Even bigger than trek Long Island. I mean,
- 8:24even bigger than the yard sales. Yes, bigger than the yard sales for
- 8:28sure. Speaking of the yard sales, yeah kind of yeah, so we
- 8:35we uh we We talked about it on the on the podcast group and on
- 8:39the Facebook group, but we have officially launched our new merch STOREO with chop
- 8:46Teas. So chop Teas is an online apparel product or shop. What's really
- 8:54cool about them and why we decided to go with them is they ship from
- 8:56over thirty two countries with free shipping, So if you live in the US,
- 9:03Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the European Union,
- 9:09you don't pay for shipping. And the other cool thing is taxes are already
- 9:13factored in, so the part that's the price. Wow, okay, cool
- 9:18cool? And then what's what's even cooler? Right now? Because we're just
- 9:22kicking off. If you go and you sign up for their newsletter on chop
- 9:26teas dot com, so it's chop dash Teas dot com, you can get
- 9:33a ten percent discount on your first order for your treck Cast merch so makes
- 9:37it even better for you guys. Uh. It's also linked to our our
- 9:41main website. So if you go to trek Caast dot com, right at
- 9:46the top, it's a shop. You click that and it'll take you right
- 9:48to the chop Teese store. We are working on more shirt designs to come
- 9:52out in the next week or two. Cool. So yeah, but this
- 9:56is what we got so far. We got they got teas in women's cuts.
- 10:01So yeah, yeah, she gets seven. So you're saying that I
- 10:03should and then every day she could just she can represent the podcast, right
- 10:09absolutely. Well, she's got one of the old trek Cast t shirts,
- 10:11so right right, right now, I'm gonna get her a new one and
- 10:16I think we're gonna wear them on the on the cruise. Oh right.
- 10:20Yeah. So so that's yeah, free shipping, like I said, from
- 10:22from several different countries. So yeah, it's very exciting. So there you
- 10:26go. That is awesome. That is awesome. So what's the turnaround?
- 10:31You know, it's pretty quick from what I looked at. So if we
- 10:35like, let's say for this shirt example, right, so it's loading up
- 10:39if you were to order it today. Estimated deliveries between June second and June
- 10:43sixth. Okay, so pretty quick, and then that free shipping sizes go
- 10:48fairly large from I wish I wish I knew a week ago because I was
- 10:52going to get one that says trek Cast. Unfortunately Scott is on a cruise,
- 10:56and then I would wear that around Long Island. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:01I might have something for you already, Dan Scott's Scott's tired to hear that.
- 11:07No, no, no, that's okay. Well, just for clarification,
- 11:11I'm not going to be on a cruise next weekend, but by all
- 11:15means, enjoy your cruise, yes, and I'm going to enjoy my cruise.
- 11:18I don't want you to not enjoy it. And I and I will
- 11:20be I will be representing trek Cast. I just want you to think about
- 11:24what you've done. I will, I will. I'm gonna blame my wife.
- 11:30I'll just blame brave brave man. Listening right now, Chop and he's
- 11:37saying, people have gotten their stuff in three days. Really okay? Oh
- 11:41yeah, well hi there, yeah, Hi Dicky Bird. He's listening to
- 11:46the podcast that's all right, but allowed for and he's in Australia, so
- 11:50it's very late for him. Oh wow, okay, yeah, yeah,
- 11:56so that's the new Chops. He says, I I will be I will
- 12:01be ordered a couple of T shirts today. Oh yes, And as we
- 12:07had mentioned before, we talked about this, uh chop teas really great company.
- 12:11They work with a lot of the wrestling podcasts that I listened to,
- 12:15so that's how I found out about them. I'm very excited about it.
- 12:18So he says he's watching F One's watching F one Formula one. Oh okay,
- 12:28yeah, that's a that's a racing kind of thing in other countries.
- 12:31Yeah that's right. Yeah. Cars, cars, they're funny looking cars,
- 12:37that's right. Automobiles, right, Yeah. They don't look like Chevy Lumino's.
- 12:41They look they look like motor cars, space ships. The only car
- 12:43races I watch are those police chases when they get on CNN or whatever.
- 12:50You know what my favorites are. When you get the groups that close down
- 12:56a city block and they and they do donuts in the middle of the street,
- 12:58and then one of them recks their car and everybody else scatters. I
- 13:01love that. I just imagine that one guy standing there, his cars wrapped
- 13:09around a pole. The cops pull up. What happened? I had no
- 13:13idea it was like that anyway. Well, yeah, so there you go.
- 13:22Col Chopped teas awesome. Yeah, chop Teesse not to be confused with
- 13:26chop Cheese, which we will be having next week. I expect a full
- 13:33report. I mean, I'm not really interested in this whole trek like thing
- 13:39going on. I don't know what's going on. Really, I'm really interested
- 13:41in this, you know, chop chopped cheese, sandwich sandwich. You guys
- 13:46are going to a Chop Cheese Samis convention, right, and there's like a
- 13:48Star Trek door next door. Yes, that's exactly we will have to uh,
- 13:52we'll have to make a video of it. Absolutely so, uh Dickie
- 14:01versus CHOP's changed my life So I named my company after it. That's fair,
- 14:11that's fair. Yeah, all right, Well let's let's get to the
- 14:16news. Sure, Star News. All right, So we've got quite a
- 14:24few different news stories today. So let me hold ont a second. Hold
- 14:28out a second is one of the news stories about a change in ownership at
- 14:37Paramount. No, but Paramount is in there. Okay, yeah, sorry,
- 14:46the news story that won't go away. Yeah yeah, oh they all
- 14:50they all are kind of that way right now. But our first news story
- 14:52comes to us from Deadline, and it was announced earlier this week that starf
- 14:58Trek Starfleet Academy, that series has announced that Holly Hunter will be the lead
- 15:03role. She's going to step in the right direction. Yeah, she's going
- 15:07to play the Captain and Chancellor of the Starfleet Academy. So yeah, what
- 15:16do you guys think? I like her. She's a good actress. Yeah,
- 15:20yeah, I think she's good too. So she was great in Superman
- 15:24be Batman. You know, I was just about about to make a reference
- 15:30about Sweet Tea. Ok yeah, yeah, I'm trying to google who's that
- 15:35senator? Yeah, yeah, she got the glass of piss on her desk,
- 15:37Yes, I was, yeah, yeah, yeah, Grandma's sweet Tea,
- 15:41Grandma sweat. I hate those movies. I do, No, I
- 15:48understand they're awful. But yeah, so she's gonna be the chancellor. I
- 15:54did see a lot of people online were saying the only chancellor they recognize is
- 15:56gal Ron, So I thought that was funny. So already we're gonna have
- 16:03a chancellor off, I guess. And then our next new story comes to
- 16:08us from the Hollywood Reporter and yes, we're talking Star Trek four ish.
- 16:15So it has been reported that Simon Kinsberg is in talks to produce the next
- 16:21Star Trek movie in a reboot for Paramount. So the idea is that this
- 16:27new movie is going to be a prequel of sorts before First Contact, like
- 16:36leading up to our first contact before the Federation and all that. I know,
- 16:41Dan shaking his head. We did this already literally in a show called
- 16:44First Contact and a movie called First Contact, you know, because Star Trek
- 16:48fans are like, all we want to hear is the word reboot. Yah,
- 16:52right right. What's even crazier is, if you really get into some
- 16:57of the articles that have been released about this, they're still planning to do
- 17:03Star Trek four with the JJ cast. So tell them to tell them to
- 17:11stop. Yeah, nobody's I'm angry about it because they keep stop going in
- 17:21this direction. It's it's it's old news. How much we hate it.
- 17:25So Here's here's the thing. We've already had to deal or they've already had
- 17:32to deal with the real lifetimeline catching up with the Star Trek timeline. Because
- 17:41of that, they had to come up with the temporal Cold War to explain,
- 17:47you know, the differences. Learn from your mistakes. Stay out of
- 17:53that era. Yeah, stay out of that. Leave it a ar area
- 18:00that we don't talk about much, right, and move on. Star Trek
- 18:04is about the future. Stop going backwards. Yeah, it's uh from your
- 18:11mouth to God's ears, Dan, Yeah, absolutely, Yeah. Chasbis says
- 18:18bad Robot has ruined Trek. You know. The thing is, Simon Kinberg's
- 18:22is not bad Robot. He's he's being picked up by Paramount, so and
- 18:30on Paramount's not doing a great job with Trek either. Yeah, and and
- 18:33on paper, Simon's got a really good resume. Like he's worked on a
- 18:36lot of great franchises. So like he did some of the Mission Impossibles,
- 18:41I believe, he did some of the The X Men films, some of
- 18:42the good ones and some of the bad ones. He also did direct Bogglebs.
- 18:48So yeah, it's he's kind of hidd and miss you know, but
- 18:56this this is not the way, man, This is not a way at
- 19:00all. Look if you ask one hundred Trekkies or Trekkers in what era do
- 19:07you want them to start making movies and TV shows, They're all going to
- 19:11tell you post Picard, They're all going to tell you that that era.
- 19:18You might get some outliers. You might get some people that are in their
- 19:19sixties and seventies that say, oh, I you know Original Trak or whatever.
- 19:22Or you might get some people in their twenties and thirties who don't know
- 19:26much about the TNG era. But the vast majority of Star Trek fans want
- 19:32a continuation of the storyline from Pcard season three on. It doesn't even Mattter.
- 19:37It doesn't have to be same old characters. They can make a show
- 19:41that takes place in twenty four to two with a brand new crew and a
- 19:47brand new ship, a brand new captain that has nothing to do with any
- 19:51of them, that's out in the in the Beta Delta Gamma quadrant doing their
- 19:55own thing, but set it in twenty four oh two. Okay, am
- 20:00I wrong? No? They could, but they're not going to. Nope,
- 20:04And I'm pretty sure Chuck from Sobertis would agree with you, because uh,
- 20:10I'm gonna blow your mind. I'm gonna blow your mind. But Chuck
- 20:12from Sogertys, who had all the Star Trek on DVD and a lifetime subscription
- 20:18to Star Trek Online, does not like Star Trek Discovery that come on,
- 20:26come on, what's not to like? What's not to like? Well,
- 20:32oh, we'll get to that. I have my list the storyline, timeline,
- 20:36characters, character development or lack thereof. Well, let's talk about some
- 20:40Star Trek that people do like. Cut an update on The Orville. Yes,
- 20:47I was watching clips on The Orville yesterday. Perfect well bored is himself.
- 20:52Peter Macon gave an update and he is very excited. He says that,
- 20:57you know, basically, Seth MacFarlane is still very busy with all the
- 21:03different projects, but the Orville is not a dead stick, so there he's
- 21:11basically every time he talks to Seth it's still it's another thing that he really
- 21:15wants to do. He's he's very much passionate about it, still wants to
- 21:18make it happen, but just right now there's a lot of things going on.
- 21:22But you know, just in my conversations with him, it's very much
- 21:26alive and this is his world, so it's up to him. But I
- 21:29certainly would love to go back to it. So we'd love to see it
- 21:33back. Yeah, So to me, that's good news that that it's not
- 21:37like, well, I'm gonna just move on from it, you know,
- 21:40he's he's very much trying to do it. So yeah, well good huh.
- 21:45We'd love to see more Orville. Yeah. Even our last news story,
- 21:48it's just to quick. Well there's a couple of quick tidbits. So
- 21:51the Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Paramount and Charter Spectrum, that cable company,
- 21:57have come up with a new deal. So Paramount will still continue to be
- 22:02on Charter Cable. Apparently they were going to be blocked out, but they
- 22:06last minute came up with a new network network not in all the Paramount where
- 22:14you can see Yellowstone, not Paramount Plus. No, not as the network.
- 22:18It's just it's MTV, It's vh one, all the Paramount companies,
- 22:22Nickelodeon. So yeah, they were going to be kicked off Charter, but
- 22:26last minute they figured something out and so now they're good. But also it's
- 22:32going to bring Paramount Plus two Charter and Spectrum cable. So it looks like
- 22:37towards the end of the year you might be seeing some sort of integration with
- 22:41Paramount Plus as well. So on a cable like old school cable company,
- 22:48you can get a streaming service with it. So from from what I've seen
- 22:52before, in other services that have done something like this, they usually incorporate
- 22:56the on demand libraries into their demand cable. So like when you click the
- 23:02on demand channels, then you would find like maybe Discovery or you know,
- 23:07Young Sheldon or whatever, some paramo. You're coming around full circle. Yeah,
- 23:12that's a weird integration. It is going back in time and they're already
- 23:18bundling these services together. Yeah. Yeah, that was the other one.
- 23:22Comcast announced, We're just going to get to the point where you're gonna you're
- 23:26gonna be the streaming services are just gonna be another channel that you purchased through
- 23:30your cable company gonna and the prices are just gonna skyrocket. My, you
- 23:36know, the people in my mom's over but mom's apartments place, people are
- 23:41paying two hundred dollars a month for cable and internet and the prices are just
- 23:45going up. Yeah, you know, it's it's just it's ridiculous. Yeah,
- 23:51and there's there's not a whole lot you can do about it, because
- 23:52if you want to wat you know, typically if if you're not into streaming,
- 23:56and if you just want traditional you know TV, cable TV with the
- 24:02hundred channels or whatever, you're gonna be paying over one hundred bucks a month
- 24:06for it, right. But then if you want to get and we've talked
- 24:10about this before, if you want to get you know, I want to
- 24:11watch Star Trek, but I also want to watch Game of Thrones, and
- 24:14I also want to watch you know, this and that and the other thing.
- 24:18I've got to get three or four streaming services. Yeah, and hopefully
- 24:25they're bundled with some other cool things that I like, you know, who
- 24:30just posted about who just posted about commercials? Chasmins, chessmiss what do you
- 24:33say? And they're adding more commercials. Yes. So I did not see
- 24:37the newest Planet of the Apes yet. The other day I was rewatching uh,
- 24:45one of the older ones sand and I saw I saw that it was
- 24:49on Hulu. Mhm, like, okay, so I watch it on Hulu.
- 24:55I'm like twenty minutes into the movie. Well send it stops and I'm
- 24:59watching a commercial. Yeah, I was like, what the hell is this
- 25:02now? Granted, maybe it's always been like this. I don't know.
- 25:04I don't think. I watch a lot of movies on Hulu. I used
- 25:07the Roku search feature and it told me that Hulu had it, and I
- 25:11just clicked one button and it took me to It took me to Hulu.
- 25:14But you know, yeah, that's the thing. I can tolerate commercials on
- 25:19a TV show, like if I'm sitting down to watch My Modern Family for
- 25:26commercials. But if I'm going to watch a movie, Okay, sometimes I
- 25:29just have it played in the background whatever. That's cool. But sometimes it's
- 25:33movie night and I want to sit the family down, make some popcorn,
- 25:37grab a couple of sodas, and sit down for a movie night. I
- 25:40don't want commercials for that movie night. I will pay I would rather pay
- 25:45five bucks to Amazon Prime or whatever to make sure it's commercial free because I
- 25:49don't want I don't want a commercial in the middle of my movie night.
- 25:53TV is shot a certain way. TV is shot so that the pacing is
- 25:59done in such a way that they leave a spot for a commercial. There's
- 26:06a natural place where that commercial belongs. Movies aren't like that. Well,
- 26:11even crazier is they because they sell their data to everyone, right, So
- 26:15they they track your online movements, so your streaming commercials are tailored to you,
- 26:22which is even nuttier. Right. So, like if you happen to
- 26:26search for I don't know, like I recently did, I was looking at
- 26:30microphones, all of a sudden, I'm getting commercials for, yeah, you
- 26:34know, shop microphones. Yeah. I'm not really mad at that part of
- 26:40of you know, advertising, because you know, I don't particularly I don't
- 26:44particularly have a need to see any tampon commercials. But you know, I
- 26:48wouldn't mind seeing you know, trek cast merch commercials, you know, so
- 26:52you got to pick your battles. So I don't mind the the you know,
- 26:56the customization of our advertising. So so here here's something funny that my
- 27:03brother in law was talking about yesterday. I guess there's a problem occurring with
- 27:08some of these AI systems in that they answer questions based on information that they
- 27:17scrub from the Internet. Okay, things such as a person asking a question
- 27:23and someone else answering that question, and the AI will look at that and
- 27:30think that this is the answer to this question. The problem is there are
- 27:34so many assholes on the Internet that are trolling each other. There's a lot
- 27:41of bad data out there, and sometimes the AI doesn't know the difference between
- 27:51So, you know, you see these reels of these tiktoks where it's yeah,
- 27:52clip, it's a clip from a movie. And if you ever look
- 27:56at the comments, there's a million people asking what movie is this from?
- 28:00Yeah, and there's a million and a half people giving the funniest, most
- 28:03ridiculous b s answer they can you know it's a guy, you know,
- 28:07it's a guy raping a woman, and they're like, oh, this is
- 28:11uh Willy Wonka. Yeah, you know I saw one. Somebody put yeah,
- 28:17somebody put a a clip a Planet of the Apes, and somebody put
- 28:19you know what movie is this? Somebody goes Dunstan checks in, Yeah,
- 28:26some jackass with the username New York Lombardo one seven one. It's like,
- 28:30I'm gonna skew these results. Yeah, well they was that. There was
- 28:37an example that's going around recently. I guess Google just launched their AI search
- 28:41results and somebody put like, how how can I make my cheese pizza stretchy
- 28:47or whatever and put glue in it? Yeah? I mean that'll do it
- 28:53well, you know, yeah, and then our last real quick news news
- 29:00bit. So recently, Anton Mount went on social media and said that he
- 29:04was hanging up his boots because he was wrapped for season three of Strange New
- 29:11Worlds. So everyone thought, oh, they're done. They're not. He's
- 29:15done. They're still filming some that he's not in probably the next They can't
- 29:22be far behind him, No, exactly, that's all it is. They're
- 29:25like a week or two away from being finished. But he himself is done.
- 29:27Just everyone else probably working a long weekend or something. I don't know.
- 29:33Yeah, yeah, that's that's the news. It's kind of like how
- 29:37when this show is over, I just check out, and we've still got
- 29:40a bunch of stuff to do. I gotta do all the editing and put
- 29:42it all together. Check out. I mean, Daniel and I stay on
- 29:47for like an hour, hour and a half after It's cool. That's right.
- 29:52Well, should we get to our main topic. Yeah, I mean
- 29:55it's eleven. Yeah, we should probably do that. Talk about Start fun
- 30:00will now command all right to our main docic. We are reviewing Start Discovery
- 30:10season five, episode nine, lagrange Point after Maw and the Brain have captured
- 30:14the mysterious structure that contains the Janitor's power. Captain Burnham must lead a covert
- 30:19mission to retrieve it from the brain and figure out how to use it.
- 30:25Big think about this is it was directed by Riker himself, Jonathan Freaks.
- 30:32That's sad because that means even Riker can't save this show. I was just
- 30:37thinking that. I was thinking that while I was watching the show. I
- 30:41was watching it, and I'm like, even even the original Strong Beard himself,
- 30:47you know, I didn't I didn't know he directed this. And you
- 30:48guys know, I loved me some Jonathan Frakes, but you know there's some
- 30:53stuff in here that he knows better. Yeah, you know, and a
- 31:00lot of it is I mean, some of it is some nitpicky, nitpicky
- 31:04stuff, but and some of it's not. Like can I kind of point
- 31:11something out that has been bugging me and I wanted to talk about for the
- 31:14last couple of days. When when Book and Burnham are Okay, they're on
- 31:21the Breen ship, they're wearing the Breen uniform, they're wearing the helmets.
- 31:26Okay, this is a very tense time. They they are infilt infiltrating an
- 31:32enemy ship. They are trying to stay as low key as possible. Time
- 31:37time is of the utmost importance. They utmost important they are they are I
- 31:42mean, there is no time to spare. They have to watch their backs.
- 31:45This is a very tense gotta get the mission done critical time. Yet
- 31:51they have the time to go like behind a wall and have a little talk
- 31:56about their feelings. Let me write, I was I was angry at Jonathan
- 32:01Frakes for that. So let me read this this from my notes Michael and
- 32:07Burke, Michael and book working on their relationship while behind enemy lines. W
- 32:12T. Yeah, that's I was angry about that. Yeah, that's my
- 32:15note to myself because I was. I had anxiety while everybody was That's that's
- 32:21an anxious thing to do. That's a that's a an anxious time, that's
- 32:25an anxious mission. And I had anxiety every second they were on that ship
- 32:30wearing those ridiculous helmets and and blending in and and and able to communicate.
- 32:37That's the other ridiculous thing is that they're able to communicate to the other Green.
- 32:44Now. I understand there's a translation thing, but you know, if
- 32:47if I'm trying to Daniel if I'm trying to speak to you in Spanish,
- 32:52bye, by translating English into Spanish using Google and then reading it, you're
- 32:59gonna catch on right away because I'm not using the right inflections. I'm not
- 33:05using the proper Spanish grammar. You know, You're just gonna catch on right
- 33:09away. And the brain should have caught on right away too. Yeah,
- 33:15there's a little more my nitpick as well, like come on, focus on
- 33:21the mission. There's a little more going on there, because I think I'm
- 33:25assuming that even the brain, their helmets are generating those sounds that's not their
- 33:31voice. Possibly, No, I think you're right, But you know,
- 33:38I bet the brains don't say things like but uh, you know, they
- 33:44have different different uh grammar. Right, Yeah, yeah, you know.
- 33:52I that that end of it, the technicality of how the translation works.
- 33:58It's probably the least of my concern with it and everything. Yeah, you
- 34:01know, there were other things that I had issues with. Yes, you're
- 34:07right, let's let's have a heart to heart in the middle of a mission.
- 34:10Yeah, that was he shouldn't even be there. I almost had an
- 34:15anxiety attack when I saw that scene. Yeah, that that was not good.
- 34:20I do like that they tried to go for a heist, I think
- 34:22they they could have done a little bit more with that. I think the
- 34:27the nuggets were there, they could have a little more Ocean eleven inspiration,
- 34:30maybe a few more characters make it a little more interesting on how big of
- 34:35a heist to do, Like you got to go here, and this has
- 34:37got to go right and that, like all this, you know, just
- 34:42string of things that need to go right in order for it to work right.
- 34:45That could have been great. Also the idea of like, well let's
- 34:49just ram their ship that what so always works out? Grace? Let me
- 34:59ask you guys something, Yeah, which which side of the ship is the
- 35:04left side? And which side is the right side? Is? Did you
- 35:08catch did you catch that? No? So, when when Rainer is giving
- 35:15a rundown on the repairs, he refers to the left the cell and the
- 35:22right the cell, When have we ever called them left and right? Right?
- 35:29Never? Never? There is no left and right on a ship.
- 35:32There is port and there is starboard. Right. Go ahead, Yeah,
- 35:40no left and right? Left and right? Now? When I you guys
- 35:45know, I buy and sell vintage toys. I buy and sell parts for
- 35:52vintage toys quite often and when I list, when I list apart for sale,
- 35:58I am super specific because people are idiots. I say, this is
- 36:04the left wing, also known as the port side wing. If it was
- 36:10an American car, it would be the driver's side. Like I listed,
- 36:15I listed three ways, so that there's no confusion whatsoever, because there are
- 36:21people when you talk about a car and say left or right, there are
- 36:24some people who will picture themselves standing in front of the car looking at the
- 36:28windshield, and the left side would then be the passenger side. Not I'm
- 36:32sitting. I am sitting in the car. The left side is the driver's
- 36:37side. So the ice I've seen. Yeah. So the idea that a
- 36:42career naval officer would would refer to the different sides of his ship as left
- 36:46and right is and I know it sounds nitpicky, but no, yeah,
- 36:54no, there is no left and right side of this. And these writers
- 36:57know better, they should know better. And if the writers don't know better,
- 37:00Jonathan Fraakes should know better. Yep, because he said port and starboard
- 37:07his entire career. Exactly, yeah, exactly. Yeah. So the idea
- 37:13that no one, no one from like the actors right up through the editors
- 37:22caught this mm it just bothers me. You know what it would have fixed
- 37:27it is if I one of the forget it. Yeah, but what could
- 37:31have fixed it? Would it would have been like just a real quick quizzical
- 37:36look from like Tilly, like like if she maybe mouthed the word laughed,
- 37:40you know, and then that would have been a kind of a funny thing.
- 37:45It would have been like, oh, that was kind of cute.
- 37:45Instead they yeah, it could have been yeah, something like that. Whatever,
- 37:52They could have made it a little cute thing. Instead they just screwed
- 37:54up. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, I
- 38:00hope you bring up some of these grievances to all the Star Trek people that
- 38:04you make other things. When when when Burnham told the helmsman to cloak the
- 38:08ship, the black alert sound came on and then and then she said,
- 38:15let's jump. That's not how it works. That's the log the logic of
- 38:19your own show says, you take the ship to black alert and then that
- 38:24sound, which I actually like, as much as I hate this show,
- 38:29around the black alert saying black alert and then everything, you know, the
- 38:32lights come down and the sound I do enjoy when that happens. I think
- 38:37we're about to have a rave. You know, let's go. But how
- 38:44you know, how hard was it to say, help cloak the ship and
- 38:47take us to Black Alert and then and then you hear the sound? How
- 38:52difficult does that? Yeah, you are a correct sir. I agree with
- 39:01you. Yeah, that all that said, I I had fun with the
- 39:08episode. I thought it was you know, it wasn't the best. But
- 39:13for what they're doing National Treasure, it's fine. Whatever it was, It's
- 39:17just it just wasn't though. They find the tech, right, they finally
- 39:22found the tech. They beat the brain there, they say, hey,
- 39:24there's the tech. Great, and then they all stand around talking about it.
- 39:30Right, they all stand around and talk about it. And while they're
- 39:34talking about it, the Breen comes in. All right, they come out
- 39:38of warp. The ship hasn't even slowed down yet, you know when they
- 39:42come out of warp and they're just like cruising along right, yep, yep,
- 39:47and you know, the Breen caps like, put a tractor beam on
- 39:50that ship. Let's get it in here, let's go out of here.
- 39:53Around everyone on Discovery is like, oh shit, we should have done that.
- 39:58That was the fastest track Locke in Star Trek History. Hey, when
- 40:02it's an emergency, that's what you do, right, That's what you do.
- 40:07You don't stand there talking about it, right. And it's not like
- 40:10Discovery didn't know that the brain were hot on their tails exactly. The thing
- 40:17to me that was kind of funny. I know, you guys aren't Doctor
- 40:22Who fans, But in Doctor Who, he's got the box the tartists that
- 40:27he travels around in, right, And the joke on the on the tartis
- 40:30is that it's bigger on the inside than the outside, right, because it's
- 40:35an interdimensional portal that you walk into and all this stuff. So now they've
- 40:38got a tartis that thing? Yeah, the blocks kind of cylinder that you
- 40:45walk into and god knows how big it is inside. Yeah, So do
- 40:52we have any guesses as to what the progenitor? Is it a recipe for
- 40:55biscuits? Is it an unlimited power source? Is it I'm telling you it's
- 41:00going to be friendship? Is it? Is it going to be part two
- 41:05of the original Progenitor's message from you know, the chase from the Start Trek.
- 41:08So they have set up that that both sides are now in that dimension,
- 41:14right, and they're going to get a test where they have to work
- 41:17together and then it's going to be friendship at the end. Who's in there
- 41:23now, uh, Mall and Mall and burn and a couple of soldiers that
- 41:31right, which which are just there to die. They're just there to die.
- 41:36It's going to come down to Mall and Burnham is not. I know,
- 41:42this is Star Trek Burnham. I understand that. I know that's what
- 41:45they went for the entire time. She's not the most compelling character. You
- 41:49know, put put put the ruin there with them. There you go.
- 41:52But here's the thing. Okay, so the brain, the brain and the
- 41:55humans have to learn how to cooperate and and be friends. Except that that's
- 42:00not what's happening. There's two humans in there because you have you have a
- 42:05pissed off human leading leading the brain. Which I'm sorry, that's dumb.
- 42:12It's stupid. It's stupid. Yeah, it makes no sense. It's dumber
- 42:15than Star Trek. It's dumber than when shins On commanded the Romulans. It
- 42:22was dumb. Then it's jumped dumb. Now you know. I was thinking
- 42:29about that and I was like, how would you fix this? And I
- 42:30think I have an idea. I don't think it would totally fix it,
- 42:34but at least it would make it more palable. Machine. Yeah I'll fix
- 42:37maybe, Yeah, maybe this is still time. Yeah. You know when
- 42:43when Paul Terry Betells when Locke was with his uncle and was like, uh,
- 42:49the uncles giving him crap, and like those flashback scenes and and Maul
- 42:53was kind of watching it happen. Mm hmm. You just need one of
- 42:57the soldiers to be to like, you know, the uncle knocks him over
- 43:00something like that. Soldier comes down, like helps him get up, and
- 43:02he says, sir, anytime you want to take over, it's not just
- 43:07me. There's a bunch of the men were ready to go behind you.
- 43:10Yeah, something like that. The only the only other way, the only
- 43:15other way I could see it is if she was pregnant with his child and
- 43:20it was known, because then she's carrying royalty in her belly, right,
- 43:27can you imagine? Well, first of all, a goo baby, I
- 43:31mean well, first of all, they weren't goo babies until six weeks ago
- 43:37decided they were good babies. So so if if if that's a storytelling hurdle,
- 43:45that's a hurdle they set up for themselves. That's right, babies.
- 43:51Six weeks ago, they were still furry creatures that needed to furry refrigeration suitseration
- 44:00suits. Thank you God. I just hate this show. When is it
- 44:04over you guys? You guys have a lot to celebrate next week. Oh
- 44:13what's really funny is they want they want either myself or Dan to participate in
- 44:17a like all star panel of all the podcasts where one representative comes on to
- 44:22talk about the end of Discovery. And I'm kind of like, oh God,
- 44:27are we going to be the only ones that are like, Okay,
- 44:29here's the problems. Well, no, you guys are gonna have to do
- 44:32your compliment shit sham sandwich and Dan you're gonna have to just really pull within.
- 44:42Hey. I actually just just just just be quiet for that part.
- 44:46Let Dan you'll do all the time. Yeah, yeah, you know,
- 44:50I'm just gonna sit there quietly and think about how I want to be invited
- 44:53back for check Long Island twenty five, right right right, I will be
- 44:59there. Let Dan tap. Let Daniel tap dance over there. I will
- 45:01be there. Yeah. He's from Idaho. They'll they'll expect that from him.
- 45:07Yeah. Uh, just play with your phone, Dan, Is there
- 45:16anything they can do in the in this serious finale next week? Is there
- 45:21anything they can do too to make it wrap up in a good way?
- 45:25Not a thing? Yeah, they've I said this in my quick reaction.
- 45:32Uh this the show seems rushed and dragging out at the same time. So
- 45:40you brought up the quick reactions? What is this? They get to trekkass
- 45:47and it's just Dan with the legal bat and sunglasses and size says hear me
- 45:51out. So you brought up you brought up quick reactions? Yeah I have.
- 46:02I know it disappointed you, but I have not done a single quick
- 46:06reaction this season. Every week I fully intend to do one, and then
- 46:15I watched the show and I'm like, no, nobody's gonna want to hear
- 46:22this. So Regor and Joyce and program, Yeah, that's that's the joke.
- 46:28Everyone keeps saying. Yeah, yeah, there there's no cameo that can
- 46:31make up for this. Also, the season was unnecessary. They they wrapped
- 46:37it up quite nicely last season. Last season, the last episode of season
- 46:43four felt like a serious FINALI right, and you know the season has just
- 46:52been this. This would this would have made this entire season, would have
- 46:54made a pretty cool two parter, you know, an okay two parter.
- 46:59But yeah, we know how it's gonna end. It's gonna end with the
- 47:02wedding or funeral. But you know, are they gonna do you think they'll
- 47:13kill off Saru? No? No, No, here's what I think might
- 47:15happen. And when I say this, tell me if you guys think I'm
- 47:19right or wrong? Okay, Uh, Maul is going to somehow sacrifice herself
- 47:25to save Locke, right, but seeing that that love is going to make
- 47:31Burnham want to go back to book. They go to the wedding, they're
- 47:36in love, they're happy, they're together, they're seeing Seru get married,
- 47:40and they're like, scirt. Double wedding. No, you know what,
- 47:50I'd be upset. God, I'd be upset if a double wedding if I
- 47:55cared about those characters. But I don't. Uh. Oh wow, Chas
- 48:05boyed me. That's yeah, no thanks, double wedding electric boogle. Okay,
- 48:20so we got Daniel's prediction. Do any of you guys have any legitimate
- 48:24predictions about what the secret? That is my legitimate prediction. I could Okay,
- 48:30I think what happened on the c W that's what would happen. Yeah,
- 48:37yeah, uh, what about main characters? Any main character is gonna
- 48:40die bock. I think Rainer is either going to Rainer's gonna be the new
- 48:53captain. He's either going to be the new captain or he's going to save
- 49:00everyone and sacrifice himself. And he's going to be posthumously promoted to captain.
- 49:06Again, They're not gonna They're not gonna They're not going to bury him as
- 49:08a commander. There's going to be a speech about how he embodies all of
- 49:13the qualities of a star fleet captain and I only wish we realized that all
- 49:20along. And for that reason, we're promoting him posthumously, and the you
- 49:28know, we're creating the Rainer or Metal for Valor or whatever stuffing like that.
- 49:32I don't think they've ever uh promoted anybody posthumously on Trek. Maybe Harry
- 49:43Kim when he finally goes to become a lieutenant junior grade. Yeah, yeah,
- 49:49finally. He always wanted this because I was thinking about lower decks the
- 49:55TNG episode, you know, and so Cito Jackson was lost and they promoted
- 50:05that other guy. I mean, they made a point of showing his promotion
- 50:07right, so they didn't promote her posthumously. Well we also we also didn't
- 50:13see her funeral. We saw her that's true, her death announcement, her
- 50:17death announcement. Yeah, so maybe they have. Maybe they haven't in the
- 50:22books. I haven't read all the books, so yeah, I don't know.
- 50:28I don't know. I'm wondering if there is after the wedding past forward
- 50:34ten years and we see Burnham and books kid in at Starfleet University Academy whatever.
- 50:39Stop stop just stop. So if you remember the episode the chase they
- 50:46talked about when the Progenitor's recording, they talked about them seating the galaxy with
- 50:52life, and they've meant I don't think they mentioned it in the episode,
- 51:00but the producers have mentioned on numerous occasions that this was done to kind of
- 51:07explain why the majority of Star Trek aliens have two arms, two legs,
- 51:15two eyes, one nose, one mouth, two ears, and most of
- 51:20them look relatively human, right because they were all seated from the same primordial
- 51:27goo and they all can have babies with each other. Yes, the now
- 51:34that we know, now that we know about bring anatomy and how they are
- 51:40liquid people, and they teamed up with the Founders, who were a different
- 51:46type of liquid people. Well, they obviously weren't seeded from the progenitors.
- 51:54So maybe we will learn about some other race of people that was around at
- 52:02the same time as the progenitors, and maybe they they seeded a different part
- 52:07of the galaxy and that's where the brain are from, and that's where the
- 52:10founders come from. Yeah that makes sense. Yeah, that makes sense.
- 52:20I think it's funny that we've made all these predictions, but we've never said,
- 52:24well, here's what the technology is going to do, other than I
- 52:29just think it's friendship. Like, what do you guys think the technology is
- 52:36oven liss biscuits. Yeah, it feels like it's not going to really be
- 52:40anything, doesn't it. Imagine if the imagine if the the uh, the
- 52:45progenitors just got it wrong. Yeah, like, please accept this gift of
- 52:51replicated technology, and they're like replicating we've got We've had this ship for six
- 52:55hundred years, right, We've been running all over the place looking for the
- 52:59blueprints for applicator. I'm going home. Yeah, Yeah, I'm afraid it's
- 53:04just going to be like you know, message number two and oh, by
- 53:07the way, we hope that everybody can live in peace and harmony, and
- 53:10that's how we sort of designed it. That's why I'm saying it's friendship.
- 53:14I hope you guys. I also wonder if if there's to me, it'd
- 53:23be weird not to include the original actress that played the original progenitor. She
- 53:30also was the original. She was also the female changelinge. And I know
- 53:35she's in her early eighties now, but you know, you know, Judy
- 53:40Dench still act acts, so so does Patrick Stewart. So does Patrick Stewart.
- 53:45Yeah, so I wonder if you know, and with makeup and you
- 53:47know, as long as her voice hasn't gotten too crappy. Yeah, that's
- 53:52what I'm hoping to see. I'm hoping to see her, I hope.
- 53:57So that'd be cool. It'd be a nice little nod, you know.
- 54:00But mm hmm, I don't know. We we only got one more episode
- 54:07and then and then it's over. It's not over the way you said.
- 54:16That's not damn man, it's not. I thought that pain in my soul.
- 54:22It's not over because this Starfleet Academy show is just going to be more.
- 54:28It's going to be more of this, and I don't know if I
- 54:32can take it. Yeah, I really don't. I love doing this show,
- 54:38but you've had it. Well, here's the thing, you know,
- 54:44I do this show because I love Star Trek. But when when it gets
- 54:51to the point where I don't love Star Trek, what's the point of doing
- 54:55this show? No, yeah, I get it. Now. We still
- 55:00have we still have strange new worlds. You know, we still have lower
- 55:07decks for now. Yeah, we got the section thirty one. Damn,
- 55:13Chas is already. Yeah, it's fine, it's Dan. You and I
- 55:17have to watch our backs. Yeah, he's coming for you guys. But
- 55:24it's like this is the same Chad. Yeah. Oh man, I would
- 55:34have the FBI knock it out my door, you know, kidding, no
- 55:37kidding, Alright, I'm just saying we're gonna need some supplementals in there.
- 55:44Excited. Yeah, I got some ideas for that. So yeah, me
- 55:49too. Yeah. I've had some people come up to me saying uh or
- 55:53email saying that they want another Starship draft. Apparently that episode has gotten very
- 55:58popular, just as people have listened in the back, which one is that
- 56:01where that's the one where we Yeah, yeah, I've never done I've never
- 56:07done it. Draft our own starship from different characters from other franchises. Yeah,
- 56:13that's the one. People are like, ooh, that's a cool idea.
- 56:15I really like that. Yeah, yeah, I'd love to do that.
- 56:20I've never been a part of that, so I've been part of Dan's
- 56:24crew. That's true. Yes, that's right. You drafted me as your
- 56:31engineer might Yeah, that's right. Yeah about that. Yeah that was fun.
- 56:45Oh yeah, we done talking about. Yeah, let's let's get to
- 56:49let's get to feedback. Okay, listener feedback. I'm wearing my uh,
- 56:58look at that the d I'm wearing the uh N c C T shirt.
- 57:05Yeah, in my long line of Star Trek shirt segment. Nice, Hey,
- 57:13be be careful. I think you're about to knock the Voyager crew off
- 57:15the wall behind it. Oh yeah, I just watched the watch. There
- 57:22you go. Yeah, that picture does not want to stay straight. No
- 57:25it doesn't. All right, we got we got Hipster Spock on the line,
- 57:31so let's bring him on. There you go, Hipster spocky there?
- 57:37Yes, hello, hey, hello, Hey, it's been a long road.
- 57:45I should have turned if I can't be with the change in the wind.
- 57:52Right now, nothing is in my way that's awesome. Hey, let's
- 58:00leave the scene to Dan karaoke. Guys get that point yeah, oh yeah,
- 58:13yeah, just stopping by and say hello, and yeah, you guys
- 58:19are always like on point on, like what's going on and uh. And
- 58:24that's why I listen to this podcast more than the others, because every other
- 58:30all the other podcasts are very like they've drunken so much kool aid and and
- 58:38so they don't know what's up from down. Yeah, and but this podcast,
- 58:44you know, you guys keep it real and that Hey, hey,
- 58:50hey hipster Spock, there's no U, there's no up and down. It's
- 58:53ventral and dorsal. There you go. So yeah, I'll be tuning in
- 59:07next week to see how it ends and your guys take on it and stuff.
- 59:13So when you say how it ends, do you mean our show,
- 59:21like this big mystery about discovery? Right? I mean it's it cannot end
- 59:30soon enough. But we've been saying forever that's true, that's true. We'll
- 59:36see, we'll see, all right. Maybe they might even surprise us with
- 59:42one or two things. Maybe if Paddington shows up next week. I mean
- 59:46to be the best show saved. It's all shows saved. That's right.
- 59:52He's handing out marmalite sandwiches everybody. It'll be great, awesome, keep up
- 59:57the good job, guys, thank you. All right. We also have
- 1:00:05got Chasbis on the line there he is. Oh, look at that.
- 1:00:09Now you got new march. So I was like, damn it, I
- 1:00:16could have got it chipped instead of two weeks it took to get this merch.
- 1:00:20I know, guys, guy Flegman, I get that reference. Yeah.
- 1:00:27Yeah, so there you go. There's the new merch. Where to
- 1:00:31get me a new shirt? Yeah, and the hats and there's gonna be
- 1:00:36more stuff coming out in the next couple of weeks, so yeah, sweet.
- 1:00:40Yeah. Also, Chas Biz, if you get a knock at the
- 1:00:44door and there's a white van outside, just just go with the gentleman,
- 1:00:47Okay, don't don't struggle. It's better not to fight it. Yeah,
- 1:00:52don't slight it. It's chucking from Sogertes with his I just gotta check some
- 1:00:59ball in the side, yep, because you just got put on a list.
- 1:01:04So we still have to see thought of that. We still haven't seen
- 1:01:09Chad. I'm not legally allowed to talk about Chad on the show, so
- 1:01:17my attorneys have made that quite clear. Are you going on the Star Trek
- 1:01:22cruise next year or oh man, we haven't thought that far in advance.
- 1:01:29Well, you've got to book a fart in advance, because I know you
- 1:01:31do have to book it far in advance. We should talk about like doing
- 1:01:36a Star Trek cruise in like twenty twenty six or twenty twenty seven, like
- 1:01:39far enough advance where we can all save up and get our ducks in a
- 1:01:43row and we'll have to learn how to swim. You could go to Europe
- 1:01:45first class for the price of a Star Trek cruise. So they're not cheap.
- 1:01:52Yeah, they're not cheap. My wife has been wanting to go on
- 1:01:54one. So you know, I don't know how I feel about cruise.
- 1:02:00I've never been on one before. Yeah, so have I My dad and
- 1:02:05brother go and like they've been on like two or three in the last few
- 1:02:07years and they love it. Yeah, it's really fun. Been to one
- 1:02:10in Hawaii and then I've been you know, Caribbean and all that we're going
- 1:02:15to. We're going to the Caribbean next month. Don't do uh, you
- 1:02:20know, one of the cheap ones do like a good ship? Sure,
- 1:02:22we're doing. We're doing Royal Caribbean. It's one of the older ships.
- 1:02:27But yeah, you know it's all right. That was the one I didn't
- 1:02:34like. It was like that just is late to the show. Just wanted
- 1:02:39to say that Book Burnham relationship therapy you've seen it during the Undercover premission is
- 1:02:44the dumbest thing I've seen in all of TV. Oh, we didn't.
- 1:02:46We didn't talk about that at all. Yeah. Well, they did the
- 1:02:52stupid Iron Man suit, you know, where you have all the you know
- 1:02:55what. I didn't hate that. I didn't love it, but I didn't
- 1:02:59hate it. But they got on there too easy and like everybody's just stupid,
- 1:03:04like shoot helmet. Yeah, and was the scene where they have a
- 1:03:14lock like his body right there in the cargo bay, so everything takes place
- 1:03:20in the cargo bay and this whole show. That's right, that's the one
- 1:03:22set they have. Yeah, it's just the cargo bay. There's no bridge,
- 1:03:27nothing, it's just the brain should have known they were on board right
- 1:03:30away. Just any interaction it again, I'll bring it back to because Jade,
- 1:03:37who was at the mention that didn't it'd be like, okay, Daniel,
- 1:03:42if you and I were in Mexico and we both had mass mass on
- 1:03:45and I walked up to you and I said, don't destala Biblioteca. Oh
- 1:03:52yeah, yeah, what would you would you go? I'd be like,
- 1:03:57you're not clearly that man is native. He is, Yes, he's right
- 1:04:00exactly, so you would call me out so fast. So you're telling this
- 1:04:05story and I can't help but picture both of you and Daniel dressed as luchadors
- 1:04:13wear masks. Nobody could see her face. Daniel's speaking perfect Spanish, and
- 1:04:18you're you know, you got broken and I'm coming out worth Spanish almost.
- 1:04:30I just told you the two sentences of the Spanish I actually do. So
- 1:04:38did you guys catch the scene where? Okay, so they're they're discussing who
- 1:04:43should go on this away mission, whether it should be Ensigntall or Stamit's okay,
- 1:04:50whether it should be a deer or or Paul, And I get I
- 1:04:56get that current star Trek is perwoke and they want to use non traditional pronouns
- 1:05:04and whatnot. I get that, But then you know they're going back and
- 1:05:10forth about who should go on this this mission, and then I don't know
- 1:05:15if it was Rainer whoever asks Tilly yeah, and Tilly says I think they
- 1:05:20can do it, or I think they can handle it, referring to Adira.
- 1:05:26Okay, so I guess that you want to use her preferred pronouns,
- 1:05:29except when you watch the scene they refer to who is she referring to oh
- 1:05:38yeah, because it could be the group yeah, it could be stand yes
- 1:05:43yeahs. And the thing is, I think, why would you put it,
- 1:05:47because like maybe I can do it, I don't know if I can,
- 1:05:51And she's all nervous and like, you're doing this most important job right
- 1:05:56now. You want somebody that's confident in their job and set up be like,
- 1:06:00I don't know, guys, let's let's I did like that moment between
- 1:06:05Clover and Stanments where they're kind of like nervous for a deer, but then
- 1:06:10they you know, try to tell thee all right, it's cool, like
- 1:06:15to know that a deer should not have gone that that, except they're they're
- 1:06:19they're not they're not her parents though, right, I've never bought I've never
- 1:06:26bought that. I've never bought that dynamic that they that they tried to portray
- 1:06:30that that these three people have somehow become a family. They're not. They're
- 1:06:34not a family. They've known each other for like a year at this point,
- 1:06:41and they've been pretending to be a family for like eleven months at this
- 1:06:45point. So I don't know. Yeah, I mean I I believe it
- 1:06:51just because like people adopt kids, right, and you have an adopted a
- 1:06:55kid for a few months, doesn't mean that's not your kid. You know
- 1:06:59you've adopted him, but it's not a kid. Well, a Deer was
- 1:07:05younger when they first arrived on the ship, but the character was what early
- 1:07:11teens. I think the problem is with the show is they didn't build her
- 1:07:15up like with those two. Like the other series would have built her up
- 1:07:19or a Deer up for several years. There would have been a build up
- 1:07:25them be like, yes, I get it. That is one of the
- 1:07:28problems with the show is that they don't build things up. They just tell
- 1:07:30you, like me, coming out of the show, there was a build
- 1:07:33ups all right. So in season two of TNG, when Doctor Crusher disappeared
- 1:07:42and went back to Starfleet Academy and Wesley stayed on the ship without her mom,
- 1:07:47we believed it because at that point he had been living on that ship
- 1:07:51for a year. He had built relationships with everyone in that ship for a
- 1:07:57year, so it was believable that he would stay behind and the people on
- 1:08:01that ship would would care for him. She was on this ship for a
- 1:08:08couple of weeks and now they're her dad's. Yeah, it just doesn't.
- 1:08:15It confuses you. It makes sense because I'm confused, Like, I just
- 1:08:20wish they would a character build on this show and that that's that's the main
- 1:08:25issue with the show. Yeah, but you can't when you'll have when you'll
- 1:08:28have ten episodes. Ye yeah, and it's one continuous story. Yeah,
- 1:08:32you can't do it one main character. You don't have. Well, you
- 1:08:38can character build, but the problem is you need to restructure the way you
- 1:08:43handle scenes. You can't. Strange Worldso has ten episodes and they can do
- 1:08:47it, right. That's that's what I was going to say. And a
- 1:08:49lot of other shows they do that. Okay, but that but that okay,
- 1:08:57there's a difference with Strange New Worlds when a new episodes, those are
- 1:09:00self contained stories for the most part. Correct when a new episode starts,
- 1:09:05you can assume that last week's episode was not five minutes ago. In the
- 1:09:11timeline of the show. Okay, so the Strange New Worlds. At at
- 1:09:15the end of a ten episode season of Strange New Worlds, maybe three months
- 1:09:19has passed. At the end of a ten episode season of Discovery, seven
- 1:09:26days has passed. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And speaking of
- 1:09:31restructuring, I was gonna say, can we talk about the fact that there's
- 1:09:35only three or four main characters left on Discovery. They've quietly gotten rid of
- 1:09:43everybody. Yeah. I was going to bring that up, the the Ops
- 1:09:47and the person Ops and the person oft Cohn. Yeah, they went off
- 1:09:51with the Enterprise, So yeah, Debt, Yeah, Enterprise and Makin at
- 1:10:04the end, and even Stammit's in his and his husband, they don't have
- 1:10:09a lot of scenes, that's true. What's what's your theory? So we
- 1:10:18talked a few weeks ago about how the Enterprise is going to swoop in at
- 1:10:23the end and and save the day. But this week we found out that
- 1:10:28they're they're sending Seru into the belly of the Beast in nothing but a shuttlecraft.
- 1:10:33So I think it's going to be the Enterprise is going to rescue Seru
- 1:10:38because the rest of the fleet is is going to be stranded somehow in his
- 1:10:44little shuttle. The rest of the fleet is going to be engaging the Breen,
- 1:10:47and it's going to be the Enterprise that's been limping back to Starfleet Command.
- 1:10:51They're going to divert and go get Saru, except the Enterprise is a
- 1:10:57nine hundred year old uns he thy ship. Yes, yes, we discussed
- 1:11:02this last week, or maybe I don't know if I talked about in the
- 1:11:05show, or I don't know if I talked about it in the show,
- 1:11:10or if I put something in the Facebook group. But it's like, it's
- 1:11:13like the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria coming to the rescue of
- 1:11:17the US is Gerald Ford. Yeah, I think that was just a thought
- 1:11:26you had when you were angry meditating. Yeah, no, no, no,
- 1:11:30it must be in the It must have been in the Facebook group.
- 1:11:32Yeah, sure, the Facebook. Who angry meditates? I think Dan does
- 1:11:40instead of like I can just picture him standing outside on his back porch with
- 1:11:49the sun rising, just just standing with his eyes closed, going getting ready
- 1:11:56for the day burn him. A dog comes up and says, the wedding
- 1:12:02will be on the Enterprise on Discovery. Yeah, it's gotta be on Discovery.
- 1:12:10Yeah, and this wedding, Like they didn't even build that up.
- 1:12:13Like I didn't even care about this wedding. I did not get my through
- 1:12:15bachelor party. Well, yeah, it was like you had a bachelor party
- 1:12:19on d S nine and it was hilarious. That's great. I mean they
- 1:12:24all got beaten. And maybe Q will show up or Tree Lane. Oh
- 1:12:29yeah, Tree Lane's gonna show up. They're gonna do a call back to
- 1:12:30the original series. But he will be a tree truly, won't turn into
- 1:12:35an actual tree. Tree label turn into an actual tree. Yes. What
- 1:12:40did you care about the Discovery going into the shuttle Bay the way they did
- 1:12:45it? Yeah, because sometimes you just have to punch your way through its
- 1:12:50explaining it and then you know we're gonna do this and then till he goes,
- 1:12:56oh ship like that you're on the bridge, your bridge officer. Yeah,
- 1:13:02that's a good idea, sir, Not ship ms so stupid. The
- 1:13:09power of math, the power of mat math is not wrong. There's very
- 1:13:15there's yeah, there's math involved, but you know that that that maneuver did
- 1:13:24not have a Heisenberg compensator. They can't they can't account for all the crap
- 1:13:29that can go wrong. Yeah, it was. It was kind of sloppy.
- 1:13:34It was cool. I'm not it was a cool kind of but it's
- 1:13:38kind of if you ran a ship into a good person in their liquid form,
- 1:13:43do you kill them or did they just kind of splatter everywhere and reconnect?
- 1:13:46And did they send them to the oil bathod book? You know,
- 1:13:50yeah, you got you gotta watch the ship. Watch get a little good
- 1:13:57person right there. You can clean that off. I mean, it kind
- 1:14:00of reminded me of the scene in Star Trek into Darkness. Didn't they kind
- 1:14:03of ram a ship with another ship on the surface of a planet. I
- 1:14:06think they did that pretty much one of those right, Yeah, they did
- 1:14:12that in a Nemesis ram the ship, ram it into another ship? Who
- 1:14:17doesn't who doesn't love you know what? Didn't ram another ship into another ship?
- 1:14:24The d You never saw the d ramming anything you have tried. It
- 1:14:33rammed the planet, that's right, they did ram the planet. Yeah,
- 1:14:39and then you know they dressed as a brain. And then I put she's
- 1:14:44also an asshole as a brain, so yeah, yeah, because she's you
- 1:14:51know, I don't know, all right, all right about this, it's
- 1:14:56just it and it's the small and Burnham are gonna fight it out. Yeah,
- 1:15:03and then mal will probably surrender and realize she's wrong, and then she
- 1:15:09can't get locked back, and then I don't know, killing a bred is
- 1:15:15like a bug on the windshield, goose flat, goose flat. It's gonna
- 1:15:18be like babies, all right, it's gonna be completely green and grosser.
- 1:15:25I think we lost Dan already, yep, yeah, all right, all
- 1:15:30right, well let's let's wrap it up. Anybody watched Fieryosa now I'm gonna
- 1:15:36go see it later today. That's good. So okay, yeah, that
- 1:15:41the Mad Max Mad Max saga or whatever? Yeah, matter Max, what
- 1:15:48the lady? That's right? Pretty cool? Cool? Anything else you want
- 1:15:53to bring up your just biz, well that's it. You know, how
- 1:15:57are you guys gonna do a showing next week with Yeah? Yeah, we've
- 1:16:00got to figure it out, so keep keep watching our social media's and we'll
- 1:16:05let you know when we're gonna do it. We're still trying to figure out
- 1:16:09the timing on that. But yeah, well yeah, a different times.
- 1:16:13Am I invited to that show? Of course? Of course? Yeah?
- 1:16:17Yeah, I'm not just gonna turn out my feed and say, oh they
- 1:16:20did a show already, Right, I'm just guy Fleigmann, you know,
- 1:16:27remember that guy again. So yeah, all right, thanks, gonna be
- 1:16:31startled if you get a knock at the door, Chas biz, I'll go
- 1:16:36quietly and put me in a straight jacket. Yeah, don't worry that.
- 1:16:45The crazy hospital is about four miles away. So okay, my wife there,
- 1:16:53so right, all right, all right, well so one more episode
- 1:17:03of Discovery. Uh. You guys are gonna be in Long Island for Trek
- 1:17:09Long Island next week. That's exciting. Yeah, yep, all right,
- 1:17:15star Trek Yard sales meat and cheese sandwiches. It's gonna be a good time,
- 1:17:20that's right. Yeah. Absolutely. I found out that the Amityville House
- 1:17:27is on my way to the hotel. Okay, they love they love that,
- 1:17:31the people that live there. Yeah, I'm gonna pick up a demon.
- 1:17:33It'll be great. Yeah. Well, give everybody my best and tell
- 1:17:38them I said hi. All right, well for sure, okay, thanks
