  [upbeat music] Hey, everybody. Hey.
• 0:16
Full Spectrum Cycling here, uh, number 127. Wow. 47. Successfully just drove everybody out. Wow, that was awesome. [laughs] Hey, what's that? We're, we're, uh, kitty-corner from the old shop here at Black Husky- Live...
• 0:30
Tap- Taproom. Live in the Taproom. Live. Owing to the fact that I turned off the internet over there and- And, uh- We're just about completely moved out of that place. Yep. This has some percolating here.
• 0:42
And circulating here. I do need to apologize to the neighborhood in advance for allowing a vape shop and CBD shop to- Bullshit... go into that location. They're gonna exist for six months anyway. I'm sorry. Whatever.
• 0:54
I, I'm gonna see a lot of, uh, cars illegally parked, right? They already are. I know. Yeah. Well, the- The phone, but now- To be fair, the phone guys- [laughs]... own the place, so. Or, or will. We'll see.
• 1:04
Uh, what's happening with people in the room today? We got JK. Hey, hey, hey. We got Tony. Mm-hmm. And, uh, directly across from the table from me, splitting the uprights, Mr. Joe Schuler. Hey, how's it going?
• 1:17
Uh- I, uh, I, I saw Joe over at Bremen Cafe and said, uh- Let's go do a podcast... "Hey, you wanna go put some headset thingies on and do a quick, uh, podcast kind of deal?" Go nuts.
• 1:26
And of course I said yes, because, um, you know, being the fellow that I am, that is m- maybe never 10 sheets to the wind, but at least three if you run into me socially- Thank you... it sounded like a grand idea.
• 1:39
I was actually thinking about three sheets to the wind today since I pretty much hit that mark yesterday, and wondering exactly where it came from. It's 'cause you want to. It's obviously a nautical term, right?
• 1:48
Probably. It must be, but I, I've always wondered, like, why is it, it three and not- Yeah... eight? Yeah, like, not like a full rig. Because three is a magic number. Yeah. 'Cause schooners only- Three sails...
• 1:57
'cause schooners only have three sails or? Yes. Oh. Oh. I don't know. You, you know what? That actually makes sense, Chris.
• 2:02
Or maybe, or maybe you strike all your sails 'cause it's so fucking blustery out- We could ask Google... that you only have three up. Yeah. You just have to say it convincingly. Yeah, you, sh- ask Google over there.
• 2:10
Don't say, "Is it?" Yeah. No. It is. It is. It is. It's gotta be the, it's gotta be the reason. Schooner has three sails, dude. Yeah. [laughs] So is that etymology or is something different?
• 2:19
No, etymology is word histories, not, not phrase histories. So I don't know. I, I'll try not to think about it- [laughs]... but I probably will lose sleep thinking about it tonight. Yeah. Me too.
• 2:27
[laughs] I gotta say, I think there's a public radio show that probably delves into this a little bit. Probably. Yeah. Probably. Yeah. A- Away With Words. Oh, that's just words, but... Words matter.
• 2:36
So I can't believe we're the only people in here right now. Well, there are, the, the beer tenders are here. They're good people. We were here, we were here last night, Tony and I, and, uh, Sam D.
• 2:45
were here last night, and, uh, Tony bailed. Fortunately, I left. Tony bailed before we started trivia and- Oh... so Dan, Jessica- Yeah... uh, Sam D., and myself, we won a whole big $30 tab. [laughs] No doubt.
• 3:01
Which I gave to Dan, even though Jessica paid our entry fee. I didn't know they did trivia here. They do. Nice. And $30 tab is a pretty good prize, right? And Dr- Dr.
• 3:09
Abby, who is now behind the bar today, is the, um, the, what do you call it? The host? MC. MC. There you go. That's what she is. Mistress of ceremonies. Huh. The mistress. Oh.
• 3:19
And she is- Well, if we're gonna follow- She's a- She's a- I forgot what her doctorate is in. She's a PhD in something. I know. I just asked her. She works for SOAH.
• 3:27
She's a master- or she has a PhD in information science. Oh, well, there you go. She works for the School of Information Studies, where my wife also teaches. At the U- Fun fact... at the UW. Love the wife.
• 3:37
At the universities. Love the wife. Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Definitely [laughs] That place, best place to work. Yeah? Initiative. Sure. You know? That's why I left.
• 3:47
[laughs] Do we have to license all these songs that are playing in the background, do you think? I don't know. I can't hear them, so we're gonna ignore that. Yeah. We're gonna ignore that.
• 3:53
I would imagine you just, like, check out how much they picked up later on and it's probably not enough. Yeah. We're, I mean, this, the, the, the RodeCaster Pro- Wait, wait... is one of the best podcasting- [laughs]...
• 4:04
studio things you could have. Yeah. The Randy Rhoads Caster Pro. Yeah. Speaking of, speaking of ridiculousness and going completely off topic, but w- what's your opinion on the Nirvana baby suing for child pornography?
• 4:19
I thought it was a joke at first, and then I saw it- So did I, and then I read it and I'm like- I was like, "No, this is being picked up a lot," and- I'm guessing maybe he's a heroin addict and needs money. Maybe.
• 4:28
I, I, you know, I'm wondering how someone could stoop this low after this many years. Do you think that the parents of the baby gave permission for it or got paid a bunch of money or?
• 4:37
I don't think they got any royalties or whatever. Uh, it, I don't think they got royalties 'cause at the time it was just a funny photo. And he's a son of Kurt.
• 4:43
Well, I've actually got an interesting, uh, introspection on this in the last couple of hours. Yeah. Uh-huh. And before I talk about that, yeah- I'm gonna take my [laughs]... I, I think I completely agree.
• 4:53
It's like the dude fell on hard times and it's a money grab, right? Yeah. Oh, sure. Yeah, yeah.
• 4:56
That's kinda obvious, but I've got, uh, a buddy that I see around the neighborhood who's kinda lived all over the place and met a lot of people, and he knows some people allegedly, you know, uh, like I said, it's a guy I drink with sometimes, so I don't know if everything he's saying is true.
• 5:12
But he said that this dude, uh, has a history of hitting on women in this exact method, which is, "Hey, you've already seen my penis once. You wanna see it again?" [laughs] Oh, my God. Nice. Well played.
• 5:27
Yeah, th- all right. I mean- So that kinda leads into this, I guess, huh? Yeah. Yeah, that's a pretty- That could be a guy that would suddenly realize, "Hey, I could sue these guys."
• 5:33
And probably not get jack squat from it 'cause- Well, or get publicity and maybe settle out of court for some money. Certainly not pornography. Naked babies- Well, that's, I think that's-...
• 5:41
unless if they're used inappropriately is not porn... yeah. And just otherwise I'm in trouble 'cause I posted a picture of my, my boy's butt on Facebook the other day. Yeah.
• 5:47
I've posted numerous pictures of kids in bathtubs over the years of my kids. Oh, yeah. Fantastic. It's some of the funniest shit ever. My aunt totally made, like, quote-unquote, "kiddie porn" of me and my brother.
• 5:55
[laughs] I mean, it's a famous photo within the family, but if it was to go outside of the family, like, who knows what context he could put it in. It just occurred to me that we haven't had- Oh, look.
• 6:04
There's a blue car[laughs] We, we, we haven't had Mr. Schuler on the show before- Sure...
• 6:09
so I thought, and I said, uh- You should get us some sh- I said, Joe, uh, we do talk about cycling now and again, but, uh- Good ol' cycling...
• 6:16
maybe just, uh, introduce yourself to our, our viewer or our listener, and, uh, give 'em a heads-up on, you know, kinda your, your, your story, man. I mean, we don't... You know what I'm saying. I would love to. Um,
• 6:31
thank you for having me on, first of all. And, uh- Yo, mug for it. [laughs] Hey, good to see you. Good to meet you. Hey, I'm jingling- Uh-... I'm jingling the keys so it's on camera...
• 6:40
th- that probably doesn't work on audio only, but I pointed to my left- [laughs]... and to my right.
• 6:43
But, um, so yeah, this is kinda, uh, spur of the moment, and, uh, I'm actually excited about it because I'm just the right level of drunk to make sense and maybe be charismatic.
• 6:55
So th- thanks again, Greg, for having me on. Perfect, perfect timing. But since it is a cycling podcast, um,
• 7:01
I, I feel like I should, uh, be true to that and, and say sincerely that what happened in my life at one point was that bicycling saved my life. Wow, do tell. Truly did. So, um, I was in my, uh, my early 20s, um,
• 7:18
21, 2, 3, 4. You know, that great part of your life where you're- So, like, four years ago? [laughs] I'm actually 41. Are you s- I, yeah, I, I don't look it, so. He, he looks like a youngin'.
• 7:29
Uh, holla, ladies, if that's a thing. [laughs] Don't. No, don't, because if my girlfriend hears this she'll be like, "What the hell?" Yeah. But- She's what, she's our one listener. Yeah. Nice.
• 7:39
[laughs] She's already calling. But- Listening, judging. [laughs] So I, I went through a rough period in my life where, um, I was, uh, re-entering college after a long spell of just kinda being a loser drug addict dude.
• 7:55
And maybe not a drug addict in the traditional sense. I mean, mainly I just...
• 7:59
I smoked weed and I drank too much, but I also would do, you know, a, a pile of blow once in a while or something like- Hey, who didn't back in the old days?
• 8:06
[laughs] Yeah, but, like, I, I did myself wrong and I, I got myself into a space where I was, um, using potentially healthy cannabinoids in, in the wrong way and not keeping, uh, a grasp on, on where my mental health really was and realizing that that was, um, detrimental.
• 8:25
And I, I started to have panic attacks. I, I developed an anxiety problem, and that ended up being, um, so bad where, uh, I got hospitalized in, uh, early 2004. Hm.
• 8:40
And I realized that I needed to make a big change in my life. So, uh, the immediate thing was like, "All right. I should probably not do drugs and alcohol for a while." So I, I got, I got sober,
• 8:50
but I was bored as shit and I had moved back in with my parents. You know, like,
• 8:55
n- not only did I go crazy, but I had this depressed, um, uh, unremarkable, remarkable lifestyle where I was, like, back with my parents, and, like, all the shame with that.
• 9:07
And the first thing I thought of was, like, "Well, I, I kinda like riding bikes."
• 9:11
And I had a little bit of money, so I went and I bought the best mountain bike I could afford, which, uh, was, like, 3 or 400 bucks and it, and it was a KHS. Oh, yeah. Nice. And, and it was- KHS bike's good stuff...
• 9:25
yeah, it was a great value on a bike. And that thing, I, I beat the crap out of it. I w- at first I just would ride, you know, roads to trails, you know, nothing serious.
• 9:34
And then I realized that there was this awesome place, like, only 20 minutes from me, uh, when I was living with my folks- Which-... called Nine Mile Wilderness- [laughs]... outside of Wausau, Wisconsin.
• 9:45
And I started to go there every day, and it's a, it's a- Oh, that had to change your life... goddamn beautiful place, which is- It is...
• 9:52
you know, if I went there today it probably wouldn't be the same because it's such a, a well-kept, uh, place that they, they keep, um, you know, r- redoing trails and improving and all that.
• 10:02
Like- Yeah, it's a destination spot for sure. Yeah, it is. Actually- It's absolutely a destination... Wausau is a destination spot. For sure. With, with Sylvan and the Ringle Trails- Yeah... and Nine Mile. Yeah.
• 10:11
That's a great spot up there. There's a lot of good- Yeah, that pump track at Sylvan I've never done, but it looks so cool. It- Mm... so out... Pump tracks like that one at Sylvan are...
• 10:20
They, they can be great, but they require a lot of maintenance, and sometimes they don't get that sine wave- Maintenance... roll going. Yeah. And if they don't have that, then, you know, it's a little harder to do it.
• 10:31
Like, when they had the indoor mountain bike track here at, uh, Rays- Rays. Oh... it was perfect. You could rip on that thing, 'cause it never changed. Yeah. Rest in peace, Rays. Yeah. I actually had- Yeah...
• 10:40
a job interview with the construction company that took that space over. Oh. And now it's just a- Oh, okay... it's a giant indoor yard. Oh, damn it.
• 10:48
[laughs] I was, I was really hoping that the pump track was still in there and that we could go just to- It's so gone... steal it and ski it. Yeah, it is so gone. Damn it. Yeah.
• 10:54
Speaking of damn it, I'm gonna push a button over here and, uh- Push the button... this is... Hey, welcome to Radio Program Caller. [laughs] Who do we have on the line? This is Rays. How's everybody doing?
• 11:05
Hey, okay, man. How are you? Oh. Hey. Sounds like Big Sexy. I recognize that voice. That's gotta be Mr.- Oh, good... Large and Sexy. Yeah. Bi- Big Sexy here. Uh, I live in Minneapolis, and, uh,
• 11:22
everything's going great. I, um, I'm actually exploring a lot of, a lot of the, um, uh, out- outside, uh, the, the suburbery... S- [laughs] oh, God. Suburbery. Suburbery. Yeah. Suburbia. We know what you're saying.
• 11:39
This is legit. Is that, is that the Little Apple? You're in the Little Apple. Huh? In the Lil- The- In the Little Apple? That's what they call minty apple tits. Huh? Yeah, man. Right. Right on.
• 11:50
Um, but I've, I've been, um... You know, 'cause my brother has w- my brother and my sister had to work during the week, so, um, I'm kind of just cruising around and, and exploring places I've never been before.
• 12:07
And drinking a Jägermeister. It's a, it's a good, it's a good city. It's got a good infrastructure. It does. For sure. Yeah, it's a, it's a bikea- bicyclistical mecca. Yeah, I, you, you know.
• 12:17
I'm pretty, like, when you- And we, and we-... go over the, uh- People come up and ask me, they, they say, "Well, where you heading?" I'm like, "Well, I'm here." I made it.
• 12:30
Hey, man, did you go, uh, did you ride through that sculpture park? You know which one I'm talking about, by the Guthrie Theater? It's on, like, the, the UM campus.
• 12:41
Uh, uh, Greg- Greg, uh, Sven- Sven, can you, can you, uh, translate? Try [laughs] You wanna, you wanna be on the U- U- Uni-... University of Minnesota campus, and there's something in there.
• 12:53
And from that campus you can go across the M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I River. Yeah, there's a, there's a sculpture park there that you can bike through, and they got all kinds of crazy, humongous sculptures.
• 13:06
If you, if you haven't heard of it, you can ask any local. It's something you gotta check out while you're there, man. Uh. [laughs] Yeah, I, I, I didn't, I didn't- Listen to the sh-... I didn't hear that. Oh.
• 13:20
[laughs] I don't know, man. We're having a hard time hearing you, too, so. Yeah. [laughs] Y- listen to the show notes.
• 13:24
[laughs] Yeah, I, I think we're gonna probably catch up with you next week, but thanks for calling in, 'cause we're in kind of a weird spot and, uh, I don't know if our technology's- Things are weird...
• 13:33
up to the, up to the thing. Things are weird Do I need to talk louder? No. [laughs] Oh, no. You do absolutely not. Oh, no. Oh, no, no. But, uh- [laughs]...
• 13:40
yeah, why don't we catch up with you next week, man, 'cause we're- Yeah... having a little technical difficulty. All right. Thank you. Take it easy. Call back in. Hey, love, love- Best of luck, homie... love you guys.
• 13:48
All right, love you. Love you guys so much. Love you too. Be careful. Mwah. Bye. Big Sexy. [laughs] Wow. That was Big Sexy, ladies and gentlemen. Big Sexy.
• 13:55
I think, uh, we'll go ahead and catch up with Big Sexy at another time. Yeah, but I'm- I was so happy to meet him. You know, like- Oh, yeah, we were talking about this at Bremen. Yeah.
• 14:04
Yeah, tell, tell, tell he, he- So-... met him a couple times. Yeah, so, uh, um, uh, our mutual friend James, everybody here knows James. Oh, J- yep, yep, yep, yep.
• 14:12
And I, uh, drank with James at the Bremen on, on the rig, as the kids say now. Well, they probably got cooler- That's, on the rig is more like y- you're doing the heroin tap there, aren't ya? [laughs] Oh, man.
• 14:23
Yeah, I guess I, I, I'm, I'm behind the times with my jargon. But anyway, I, uh, I meet James and, uh, it's during River West '24, which is, uh, o- of course something I'm sure you've mentioned on the podcast before.
• 14:38
And if there's- Maybe. Maybe... if there's any new listeners that don't- Maybe... know what River West '24 is- It's the greatest event in the history of cycling... yeah, like, screw you for not knowing about it.
• 14:47
What is this thing about? And then just Google that. All right, I'm getting there, sorry. [laughs] Um, so, uh, w- I'm, I'm going to a bar and there's a lot of people there because of this event.
• 14:56
And, uh, James says to me, "Hey, uh, Big Sexy's gonna be here soon." I said like, "Oh, what's his deal?" And he says, "Oh, uh, he's the guy that we got from Michigan.
• 15:04
He's, he's riding a trike, like, across the country or something." I'm like, "All right. Guy seems interesting."
• 15:08
He's- And he's like, "Yeah, but, like, when I woke up at, like, 7:00 this morning, he was waiting for me on the porch and he was still going for it, so he might be- [laughs]... who knows?"
• 15:18
So yeah, he shows up and, like- [laughs]... I'm, you know, I, I'm, I'm partway there. James is partway there. And- Halfway there. And Big Sexy- Ah... is, like, just trying- There and-...
• 15:33
just trying to sorta get there while being, I'm sure, like, epically hungover. And, uh, like, he's got no patience for me at first.
• 15:44
[laughs] Like, I'm trying to ask him questions about his cool bike journey, and he's just like... I can tell he's like, "Man," just like, "Ugh, shut up, kid." Like, "Let me get a couple in me." [laughs] And,
• 15:55
uh, and not to, you know, put words in his mouth or anything. That's just how I, I felt like he was- So sincere. Yeah. Yeah. And, and- Isn't he younger than... No. No. No. He turned 44 the other day. Oh.
• 16:05
New Year's- Yeah, but I look way better... New Year's Day or something. Yeah, you're a sexy man. Yeah, thank you. Uh, hey, la- Thanks for noticing... hey, hey, ladies, holla at Joseph. [laughs] He's...
• 16:12
That's all, hey, this is the- All the ladies that listen to the- No, this, this is around the time that- Everybody gets- I cannot imagine we have any female listeners... this is around the time- No...
• 16:20
where everyone gets borned. I can't imagine. You. I'm on the horizon. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. It's all those New Year's Eve baby making sessions coming to fruition. Huh. Oh. Songs.
• 16:31
So James keeps promising me that, like, "Hey, man," like, "No, he's really cool. It's just, like, like, right now he's trying to recover or whatever." And I'm like, "All right. I believe you."
• 16:40
[laughs] And then the next day, like, I'm, I'm back at the same bar and he's there and he's more fresh. And yeah, he w- he was a fricking gem of a man. Like- Yeah, he's a great guy.
• 16:49
Yeah, he was, he was very, uh, uh, much more articulate [laughs] than he had been the day before, uh, much more, uh- That'll happen. That'll happen with the Jäger freelancer...
• 16:56
enthusiastic about talking to me and, uh, yeah.
• 16:59
Like, uh, I, I, uh, he left me with a, with a, with a good taste in my mouth, and I know that sounds weird, but, uh- [laughs] That's, that- Don't read too much into it, folks. [laughs] Yeah.
• 17:08
That's, that's how I'm gonna leave that story. Look at the picture of the doggies over there- There's no-... on that screen. There's dogs. One- They keep showing doggies... bl- black husky is definitely a dog
• 17:17
bar in that they have- You like dogs? They have lots of dog pictures on their- You like dogs?... uh, flowing screen over there. Oh, darn it. I don't get it.
• 17:23
All right, so we were, so you, we were talking about your, um, bike saving your life episode- Yeah... with your KHS. But yeah, just delve a little more into that, man, 'cause- Sure, so-...
• 17:31
that is so we're, uh, that's an awesome story. Yeah, so I, I discovered Nine Mile and I realized, um, what single track was.
• 17:39
And, and it felt like something that was like, uh, man, and not only do I just really have fun doing it, but it, it feels like something I wanna do forever.
• 17:51
And all the riding that I had been doing before I discovered Nine Mile was, you know, gravel trails, like, flat stuff, you know, really kinda pedestrian kind of bicycling.
• 18:02
And I realized that Nine Mile had more to offer than that. Um, you know, it's, it's a legit destination spot, like we covered before. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
• 18:11
I mean, shit, I think the, when they were gonna have the Olympics in Chicago, they didn't get the bid, but the, the mountain biking events were gonna be at fricking Nine Mile. Like, it's- Yeah, they first-...
• 18:20
super legit spot... they first floated out the idea of doing it at Blue Mounds- Yeah... and which is, would have been a hellacious place To do the Olympics because it's, it's difficult.
• 18:30
It's not very well, um, there aren't any services there. Yeah. Nine Mile is like right in, almost in the city of Wausau. Yeah. It's really, it's like right there. Yeah.
• 18:41
And, uh, I just, that would've been a great spot for it. There's tons of elevation there. There's... The only thing I, it, so when I go to Nine Mile, I get confused because there's so- Oh, you can get lost there...
• 18:50
there's so many like four-way crossings and you're like- Yeah. Yeah, no kidding... "Do I just keep going straight here and then do, or do I turn right here, or what do I do?" 'Cause I'm not really sure.
• 19:00
Oh, oh, if, if I might segue, speaking of getting lost at Nine Mile, I worked with a dude... Sorry, I'm gonna belch off mic. [burps] [laughs] That probably got caught by the mic.
• 19:12
Um, I worked with this guy and he's like, "Hey, I'm into mountain biking, too." And, uh, one night I was like, "Hey, man, um, let's go- Nice shot... let's go ride Nine Mile at night." Yeah.
• 19:22
And he, he says, "Yeah, that sounds cool. And I just got a new light and then my battery's charged fresh." He doesn't have a light at all, but he's like, "I'll just follow you, no problem." Uh- Ugh...
• 19:33
so, like, I wouldn't say you're gonna die if you get lost in Nine Mile, but like- Later... you're definitely gonna not sleep in a bed the night- [laughs]... you get lost in Nine Mile. Yep.
• 19:43
And we got totally lost because my battery did not hold the charge [laughs] that the advertisements promised. They never do. Yeah. It's, that's a, it's a scam.
• 19:53
So we, we spent about four or five hours in the dark tr- just trying to find our way back out from like the deepest, darkest part of it. Yeah. Yeah.
• 20:01
At, at one point, we came aclo- across a, a logging operation, and I floated the idea to him of like, "Hey, we could sleep- Just-... in the cab of that truck, man." [laughs] And he was like, "No, we gotta get out."
• 20:12
[laughs] I don't know. I did, uh, I did Gnome Fest there one year, and we did a, like a late night ride, and I got left behind and- Ugh... I was like, I had no idea where I was. I may have been drinking,
• 20:25
and I literally had to find my way back by stopping, standing very still, and listening to where I heard people. [laughs] And then trying to make that direction.
• 20:36
And then finally I got to a logging road and I'm like, "All right, I think I go down here," and I got my way back, but I'm like, "Jesus Christ, that was scary." Yeah.
• 20:43
I think, I think getting lost when you're mountain biking, you know, sometimes when it happens it's not that great, but they- Especially at night... those are some of the best- Right there...
• 20:53
memories and stories you'll ever have of riding your bike. But not at- Oh, yeah... 11:00 at night- Yeah... after drinking. Sucks at the time, but- Yeah, now it's a good story... cool thing to talk about.
• 21:01
I was glad I made it home. I'm like, "Oh." Hey, I gotta, I gotta bring this up 'cause I have like actual show notes or something. What? Oh. [laughs] I turned JK off. [laughs] Give me my noises.
• 21:14
[laughs] So, and, and this, this act- this actually involve, this involves JK and his 12th- Well, the, I-...
• 21:19
12th in line of the throne of Luxembourg, 'cause our own mayor, Tom Barrett, is going to be the ambassador- Luxembourg... to Luxembourg. I heard that over the whatever- I, I, it's good for him...
• 21:28
and I'm like- It sounded like a joke, didn't it? Again. Another one. It, it sounded like a joke. Fantastic. Well then somebody goes like, "What do you mean Lu- no, I think they're going to Lexington."
• 21:37
And it was like, uh, I'm like- Look at those peoples... and I'm like, I don't know. Look at those peoples. Yeah, they say he said he wasn't even gonna be here. Sorry we scared everyone away.
• 21:42
That was Tim and Tony, folks, the guys at home in Black Husky Brewery. So I do, if I'm not mistaken, I do believe DeNardo has- A bigger claim than you? Yeah. So you have to bump him off. Just saying. Leonardo?
• 21:53
I can, hey. We could- I can be court jester. DeNardo is, is- I mean, once you're- I can be court jester... I thought he was talking about the Ninja Turtle. Oh, no. No, no. Duh, D- Oh, DeNardo. Apostrophe. Okay.
• 22:05
Dun, D- Nardo... Nardo. Yeah. A very singular name. He is one of the coolest human beings you'll ever meet, but I can't say that- A very singular name... because it'll go straight to his head- Yeah...
• 22:14
and it's already way too fucking big. Way too... Hardly get through the door with this head. Dude doesn't wear a helmet. That's how big his head is. It's the size of a planet.
• 22:19
He's like, "I can't fit a helmet 'cause my head's so fucking big." Look at the size of the head. But, but, but- He wear trousers now... but fenders and a kickstand. He might have hydras that follow him around.
• 22:27
Fenders and a kickstand. Only thing, the only civili- only civilized bicycle [laughs] Has to have a kickstand and fenders. I think kickstands are- But I won't wear a helmet. I like kickstands. But I won't wear a helmet.
• 22:37
[laughs] Fenders, yeah. I'm riding a bike with, with obviously, or oddly enough, with fenders, but no kickstand. Well, fenders are good, at least on one of your bikes. Ah, yeah.
• 22:46
'Cause you gotta have more than one bike They keep the mud off your butt. Yep. Mud butt, yep. Speaking of fenders, I broke out the Purple People Eater. I'm gonna ride that. Nice. Yeah. Get outta here.
• 22:57
You have all steel bikes. You can ride any one of those. Yes, but- But the Purple Pe- People Eater's a great bike. Yeah. It's, it needs to, to be out in the wild. It needs to roll. It does need out. And it has new shoes.
• 23:08
And, and- There you go... I put the new shoes on it- I'll be showing, oh, wait, people probably don't know what we're talking about... and then I, and then I bought the low side and I didn't- Tomorrow we're doing what?
• 23:16
What are we doing tomorrow? Tomorrow? Steel is Real. Steel is Real. Well, that's, that's tomorrow's tomorrow. I'll be there briefly before adoption class. Tomorrow when this is airing tomorrow. Yeah. So Saturday.
• 23:25
See, it's Saturday. Or Saturday tomorrow. Right. Uh, we've, we've, we've been doing this 127 times, so it's easy to say- So we all know about Frank... tomorrow is Steel is Real. And Sammy.
• 23:34
Also tonight is, uh, Milwaukee By Bike's first anniversary party. Oh. Which is gonna be a fun thing about finding murals around Milwaukee, so I think it's sort of the statue thing last year.
• 23:44
Is it, you mean Milwaukee or Minnesota? Milwaukee By Bike. Minneapolis? We're not gonna be going like looking for- We're not going to Minneapolis. Oh, just checking. Or Australia. Australia.
• 23:51
That's kind of far to ride to anyway. Right? Hey, you know what? We don't have a bell this week, but I do want to ringy ding ding- Ding ding ding ding...
• 23:56
ding a ling a ding a ling a ding ding ding and talk to people about- In our little ding mile...
• 24:00
well, three out of the four of us have Black Husky's Elite Trails 692, which- Is- My God, it's one of the best beers I've ever had. It's just unbelievable. Uh, what else do you need? I'll never be back.
• 24:10
Yeah, I will, I will say that. That's a great way to put that. It's one of the best beers I've ever had in my life. I don't even know what's in Mr. Schuller's glass.
• 24:15
Would, would you all indulge me in describing this Black Husky, what is it, 692- Elite Trails 692. So Tim does all of these kind of like experimental brews, and it's, it's an IPA. Experimental hops.
• 24:27
They're, they're- Yeah, experimental hops. So is it like- Experimental... one of those ridiculously hopped, or is it- Yeah. No. Yeah? Yeah. Not, not, not silly. But deliciously overly hopped.
• 24:35
And not like the coconut-y garbage that was the last Elite Trails. Wait, no, that's, he has no control over it. [laughs] That's the whole deal, is that's the beauty of it. It's like you don't know what you're gonna get.
• 24:42
I mean, this is not gonna be here for long, so it's, it's good. Well, I'm gonna get one of those next. What do you have in your glass there, Mr. Schuller? Uh, so I've got their pilsner.
• 24:48
He's got a dainty, what do you call that? Uh, I think they call it- Flute. It's a flute. [laughs] I think they call it Deck Dog. Yeah, it is the Deck Dog out of the pils. Yeah.
• 24:55
And, and I'm a, I'm a fan of pilsners, and this, seriously, this one is, uh, it's out of the park. Like, it, it's kinda rare that people are... trying to do a pilsner these days, more rare than it should be at least.
• 25:08
Right. Because, you know, the, the whole craft beer scene- Everybody does an IPA Love it... yeah, you know, "Well, we got a stout, we got a porter," yada, yada. Yeah.
• 25:14
Like, just give me a beer that's, like, not difficult to drink- [laughs]... when it's not the winter.
• 25:19
Like, yeah, I'll drink your mud porter when it's the winter and I only wanna have two, but sometimes I want, like, a crispy, hot weather, refreshing beer, something that reminds me of, like, a Czech var and Urquell or something.
• 25:31
Right. There you go. Marco Polo. And that, that will do that. Yeah, and, and- That, that'll hit those notes... this totally hits the spot for that, yeah.
• 25:36
This will not hit those notes, but I understand completely what you're going for there. So I, you can see it's- This hits different notes that are also incredibly beautiful. Yeah. The, the paleness. Right?
• 25:45
Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Look how pale. Yeah. Before we run out of time, I do wanna- Oh, we're out of time... I do, I do kinda wanna pimp, uh, Chewy's new show.
• 25:53
His, uh, Salon Chair number nine, they did a post SingleSpeed USA show. It's really good. The e-bike guy, right? And I'm already mad at him 'cause they have more listeners than we do now.
• 26:03
This is Chewy the e-bike guy, right? Chewy's not an e-bike guy anymore. Oh, he's not? Oh, anymore. [laughs] Yeah, they have more listeners than us- I love Chewy... 'cause he's a better podcaster than we are.
• 26:13
[laughs] I don't believe that for a second. [laughs] He's just better looking than us. Oh, dude, podcasts out of a brewery. But the show was good. It's, it's all about the long game, man.
• 26:21
Yeah, they were podcasting in some bar somewhere I'm sure. [laughs] Right? Yep. It's the long game. But we did it. Yep. And then, yeah, so, so Chewy's, uh, show is up on fullspectrumcycling.com.
• 26:32
You should probably go there, check it out. SingleSpeed USA post-race show. The pre-race show was actually pretty good, too. So now that Spinner and Chewy both are in Decorah permanently- Oh, are they coming back now?
• 26:46
They're coming back here for tomorrow. Steel Is Real. Actually, they'll be here today. Like Decorah Ille? They're right there, which is, you know, the best place to ride.
• 26:52
Oh, look at those little doggies pressing their noses- Can we, oh, I gotta meet them tomorrow? I know him. They're coming today. Pressing their noses against- I have to meet them tomorrow... today. The pet store window.
• 27:02
They got it, baby class. No, there is no dog food in here for you today. Only death. Only death. Only death. [clapping] It's a Happy Days reference from long before you were born, Larry Young.
• 27:15
[laughs] The darkest, the darkest Happy- Young Mr. Chewy... the darkest- One of the darkest Happy Days ever... the darkest Happy Days episode ever. Come on, man, I'm at least still a legit Gen X-er. Right? Yeah.
• 27:23
Yeah, you're in the fours. I'm still in the fours. Yeah. I got a, I got another, just another... I don't know that we said this last week, so- Do you read News Stewart? Don't we-...
• 27:30
I do wanna give Steel and Robot a shout-out for their podcast, too, 'cause Steel Knievel and Robot at the Cycling Independent are now doing a show, too, which pretty interesting, 'cause those guys have a lot of...
• 27:42
They didn't know each other before they started this show, and they have a lot of common upbringing and knowledge about bikes that they just sort of were like, "Oh, yeah, I did that. Oh, yeah, I did that, too."
• 27:54
And then they've both been in the bike industry. Steel was with SWOBO for a bunch of years, and I, I forget where Robot has done his time in the industry, but- Yeah...
• 28:03
it is, uh, a very, I think, entertaining, especially if you like our show. [laughs] Right? Well, yeah, that, that, that was like- By cracky [laughs] All four of you...
• 28:12
well, no, that, that was like, uh, Zito and, uh, Nomad Sam. Zito should do a podcast. Well, they were just like, like, oh- About Australia...
• 28:19
they just opened up, like, or, like, they like, oh, grew up, like- Yeah, he was... on the same block. Oh, right on. Knew the same cats. Yep, yep. Oh, yeah... fucked with the same fucking people.
• 28:27
Yeah, that was definitely true. Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. It was like, yeah, small- It was organic... small walkie, man. Yeah. Just small walkie. Yeah. Yep, for sure. I went to, uh, Aztalan last week and did the
• 28:38
Flat Out Friday takeover of Aztalan watching, watching- Oh, happy birthday, Han Solo... Flat, Flat Out Friday was great, man.
• 28:45
Can you tell some of the listeners about, like, what that, what that track's about and, like, what it is?
• 28:50
It, it's a motorcycle club that has a, a, a natural, mostly natural motocross course, but they also have a quarter-mile clay flat track, which is what... We went out there, took my son out there.
• 28:59
I'm, he sat in the stands. I, I wandered around and took photos, and he had a good time. I was like, "Do you wanna come back to this?" He's like, "Yeah, I think so. That's pretty badass."
• 29:07
Also, uh, I would add on top of that, it's right next to Highway, uh, 94. 94. Some dude stopped- And sometimes-... and actually was watching the race from the road- Yeah... but was standing outside his car.
• 29:17
That was awesome. [laughs] Oh, yeah. You can legit happen to see cool things happen if you just happen to be riding along the road. [laughs] Yeah, he stopped his car and he was out- Oh, yeah, for sure...
• 29:24
there's a guy standing behind it. He was pretending he was changing a tire or something. Yeah. [laughs] And he's, like, watching the race. Like, "Oh, son of a gun." Yeah, "I got a flat tire right here by the racetrack.
• 29:33
I, I don't even know how that happened." That's awesome. "Sorry, officer." Well, 'cause that is a badass track. "No, no, put the cooler back." It is a lot of fun. "Put the cooler back in the car."
• 29:40
[laughs] There was 233 racers at the track that day, 'cause Flat Out Friday is a, a really cool event that happens. Yeah. Um, Harley sponsors it. Jeremy Proch, who is- Jeremy's kind of an all right dude...
• 29:50
is the River West 24 organizer and- Kinda an all right dude. Kinda... yeah, I got a picture of him in his red jumpsuit. I saw that picture. Looks awesome. He, he's kinda cool. Yeah. Uh, love Jeremy...
• 29:58
so he does a good job. He's all right. Plus his son is all fast on a motorcycle, even. I know. He's, he's all right. It's weird. Uh, shout out to my man, Ryan Sorelko, who's killing the boonie class with Flat Out Friday.
• 30:07
Boonie class. Ooh. The boonies are fun. Yeah. They're fun to watch, those guys. I think we should build a boonie bike. Yeah. Electric. Mm-hmm. Own that class. An electric boonie bike. [laughs] Own that class.
• 30:16
I've told you about how that's suicidal, haven't I? [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] Our, our friend's electric- I, I, I also wanna to say, you know- Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do...
• 30:23
a lot of folks just listen to the show, but I think you should check out the show notes, 'cause we got a lot of good photos and weird shit in the show notes. And we're terribly- And we might not even talk about...
• 30:31
painfully attractive men. Oh, yeah. Well, especially you three people. Um, damn it. Do you know what day Daikaiju is? September 18th. September, no, 18th. That's very important.
• 30:44
Which is the same day I'm supposed to go see Guns N' Roses and Wolfgang. What's more important? I don't, I, I'm saying- Dikaiju is more important... I might go ahead and have to cancel seeing Guns N' Roses.
• 30:52
Where is Guns- You're damn right. Where, where, where, where, where? You are seeing Dikaiju. I'm only making three people disappointed if I don't go to- Um, where is the theater? Guns N' Roses.
• 31:03
Well, there are some events. They're at the, they're at the American Family- Markets or whatever it's called... American- Amphitheater bullshittery. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, yeah. And, da da da da da.
• 31:12
They don't start fires on stage. Uh- X-Ray Arcade. Yeah. And, uh, Daikaiju- Very famous X-Ray Arcade... is probably not going on till 11:00. Oh, we could bop- I'm just saying...
• 31:21
we could bop right the fuck over there, couldn't we? I'm just saying. They're- I don't know. Well, it's not like they ever start at- I don't know, Jerry Harrison's that same night- Ooh...
• 31:28
at Marcus's stage at, uh- There's a really good set of shows-... US South... at the X-Ray Arcade that night, too, though, before Daikaiju. Yeah. Yeah, they'll probably go on late. Yes, but if he's gonna have to...
• 31:38
Then, then, yeah. Why not both? Yeah, I could- I'm gonna take my electric bike- I'm, I'm, yes-... so I can blast down there... I'm the little girl in the, uh, Taco commercial [laughs]. Oh, there you go.
• 31:44
All right, there, you do that. You do that, Greg. You do that. And now the, carry me on your shoulders. I'll be there with my wife. Hey. All right. Well, hey, Joe, thanks for being on the show.
• 31:52
I, you know, we gotta have you on again because I'm sure there's a lot of stuff that we could talk about that Joe would be totally into and up for and have knowledge of.
• 32:02
He's a very smart human being, and- Well, Greg, you, you- He's also a nerd, kind of like Tony. [laughs] And, he is. And he has cool tattoos, kind of like Tony.
• 32:09
[laughs] Well, Greg, you give me too much credit, and, uh, you know, um, yeah, thanks a lot for having me on. It was great. This was a lot of fun. This is, it just only extends.
• 32:16
At some point, I, I might get to, uh, you know, I kind of started this story of like, "Uh, bicycling saved my life, and that's way dramatic," and I just, like, lost myself- Greg, keep going...
• 32:26
in talking to you guys about biking and shit, which I th- you know, maybe that illustrates it anyway. But, like- Exactly... there doesn't, I guess there doesn't have to be a punchline.
• 32:35
I hope, hope I didn't bore any of you too bad. Well- No... it's only one person you really have to worry about, so. [laughs] The person listening this Friday. The one, the one person listening to this show right now.
• 32:44
I think you did fantastic, man. All right, Joe. Why, thank you. Props to Joe. Uh, we're out of here, everyone. Bum, bum, ba dum. See you tomorrow.
• 32:55
  [upbeat rock music]
