- 0:05Trump defended data centers in Ohio as he rallies to boost John

- 0:20Ohio The AP. President Donald Trump on Saturday defended data centers that
- 0:24power artificial intelligence projects but have become a contentious campaign issue nationwide,
- 0:30as he took his midterm tour to Ohio to insist his party
- 0:33will keep its majorities in Congress, despite steep political headwinds. Trump took
- 0:38several minutes during his campaign rally in southwestern Ohio to promote his
- 0:42administration's action on data centers, saying he was seeking to ensure they
- 0:46benefit local communities and praising Republican Senator John Husted for an ill-fated
- 0:51attempt to push forward legislation on The
- 0:54issue. Look, there's so much money to be made for Ohio. You
- 0:58can't just turn them off. They'll go to China, Trump said, repeating
- 1:02his defense of data centers that he had made before. The crowd,
- 1:05which had reacted enthusiastically as the President talked about other policies, was
- 1:09far more muted during the data center's remark. The massive warehouse campuses
- 1:14generating energy for AI projects have become a toxic political issue, drawing
- 1:19bipartisan opposition in races across the country, with voters concerned about their
- 1:24impact on electricity prices, farmland and water supplies. It's become especially acute
- 1:29in Ohio, where Husted has been repeatedly attacked for his role in
- 1:32attracting data centers to Ohio as lieutenant governor. Trump is embarking on
- 1:37what he says will be a thirty two day blitz ahead of
- 1:40the November third elections, hitting the deep red states of Texas, Oklahoma,
- 1:44and Alabama this week before pivoting to Ohio, a battleground state that's
- 1:48home to one of the top tier Senate races this cycle. Husted,
- 1:53who was appointed to fill the Senate vacancy left by now, Vice
- 1:56President J. D. Vance, is running to win the seat outright. There
- 2:00is likely no path to a Senate majority for Democrats without flipping
- 2:03Ohio, where former three term Senator Sherrod Brown is trying to return
- 2:07to the Senate after losing to Republican Bernie Moreno two years ago.
- 2:12Since last year, Democrats have listed Ohio, along with states such as
- 2:16North Carolina and Maine, as key races to win control of the
- 2:19Senate, and this past week the head of the Senate GOP's campaign
- 2:23arm said Ohio is among ten battleground races that are within striking
- 2:27distance. The good news for us is that John Husted is a
- 2:30closer, Senator Tim Scott, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee
- 2:35told reporters. We're seeing the gap that was there between the two
- 2:38candidates, which was just a few points, now it is right at
- 2:41a dead even race. So this is as tight as ticks, as
- 2:45we say in South Carolina. Data centers are a hot issue in
- 2:48the Ohio race. At his rallies, Trump has been trying to convince
- 2:53voters that the economy is better than they feel it is even
- 2:56though polls show Americans are frustrated with the way he's handled it.
- 3:00The high cost of living, including gas prices elevated by Trump's war
- 3:04on Iran, is a top issue in the Dayton area too, and
- 3:07just days before Trump's rally, nearly one thousand four hundred people were
- 3:11laid off from a truck factory in nearby Springfield. Your state is
- 3:16booming. Every I hate to say it. Every state is booming, Trump
- 3:19insisted Saturday. They're all booming. Trump's rally comes as Republicans worry that
- 3:24Husted's campaign has failed to adequately catch fire with voters in the
- 3:29Republican dominated state. Brown and Allied groups have hammered Husted for this
- 3:33data center's role, and them, NRSC has pinpointed it as a political
- 3:37vulnerability. The GOP controlled Senate tried to advance legislation this past week
- 3:42sponsored by Husted that would ask utility regulators to effectively charge large
- 3:47power users more, as consumers struggle with high energy costs, but it
- 3:51was blocked by nearly all Democrats. You got to remember Sharadart Brown
- 3:56was for data centers and John Husted is for data centers being
- 3:59responsible, Scott told reporters this week. If a community doesn't want them,
- 4:04he doesn't want them either. But Trump has become one of Data
- 4:07Center's most vocal proponents, shrugging aside voter concerns and arguing that the
- 4:12US cannot cede advancements in AI to China. Senator John Husted gave
- 4:17billions in tax breaks to big tech to make sure they would
- 4:19build their data centers in Ohio, Brown wrote on X on Friday,
- 4:23ahead of Trump's visit. Now he's making Ohioans foot the bill. Brown's
- 4:28campaign also has hammered Husted for donations he's received from retail magnet
- 4:32Leswexner, who once employed they late convicted sex offender Geoffrey Epstein. Husted
- 4:37has donated remaining Wexner contributions to an anti human trafficking charity. There
- 4:43were several Epstein themed signs outside the Vandalia School, where the rally
- 4:47was being held, as more than a hundred protesters lined the road
- 4:50with a slew of anti Trump and anti husted signs. But inside
- 4:54the school's gymnasium, the boisterous crowd, decked out in red Make America
- 4:59Great Again hats, and Trump Forty seven inches jerseys, greeted each Republican
- 5:04candidate, enthusiastically as they awaited the President's arrival. From the stage, Husted
- 5:10said the State had been through hard times, noting his dad had
- 5:13worked at a factory that closed down, but he said Republicans in
- 5:16the State had turned it around. We now have the most jobs
- 5:20and the lowest unemployment rate we've ever had in the history of
- 5:23Ohio, he said. Meanwhile, in the governor's race, Republican Vivek Ramaswamy faces
- 5:29Democrat doctor Amy Acton, the state's former COVID era health director. A
- 5:34wealthy biotech entrepreneur and twenty twenty four presidential candidate, Ramaswamy's star appeal
- 5:40among conservatives led to quick backing by Ohio Republicans in hopes of
- 5:44an easy victory in the Republican dominated state. However, despite a massive
- 5:48fundraising lead and more than twelve million dollars spent in campaign advertising,
- 5:53he is now locked in a close fight with Acton with weeks
- 5:56to go until Election Day. I'm so grateful to this state and
- 6:00to this country for giving a kid like me opportunities that would
- 6:03not have been available to my family in any other country on
- 6:06planet Earth, Ramaswamy said at the rally ahead of Trump's arrival, as
- 6:11he underscored the American dream for his Indian immigrant family. The AP
