- 0:00[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to the Vietnamese podcast today, a really special guest that I've been waiting as always.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_02]: I've waited for some of these guests for a long time.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_02]: I have Vowu and Jenny from Cook Some Yidong, right?
- 0:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, which means the Nomad Life, I guess, the way we can transit that.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_02]: So welcome to the podcast.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: See you again.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: Good morning.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_02]: Where are you guys right now?
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: We're in Tennessee, uh, yeah, Tennessee and you see all background.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: We're at an RV resort.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, before we get to how you've been got to Tennessee, how did you guys meet?
- 0:39[SPEAKER_02]: What you're in love story?
- 0:41[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I used to work for the automotive industry when we met.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: I was in car sales, so and we actually got introduced from a neutral friend of mine, so and at that time, Jenny was in the market of looking for a car to go to college and she was adamant about buying a X3.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: And the BMWX3, yeah, BMWX3, she loved the style, she loved how the SUV just looked.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: But she had a certain budget that she was working with.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: And she visited my friend at this BMW dealership, and he couldn't help her out, because he just couldn't find a car.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: That specific car within the budget that she was in.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: And happened, I was working for a Honda dealership at that time in New Jersey.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: Man, I have this like really cute girl, and she's a, yeah, yeah, really cute girl.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: She's been a me so, you know, you don't have a girlfriend, and I really think that you should help her out, right?
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: Do you have a car or anything like that?
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: She's looking for next three.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: And at that time, I had next three too at the lawn.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: We're on the dealership.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: We don't typically carry BMWs, but I happen to have one and it was over her price point.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: But I was like, you know what, she's a cute girl.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: Let's listen to the market.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I took out her information.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: We made an appointment.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: She came into her mom and, um,
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, long story short.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: I saw Jenny a car, not the car that she was looking to buy by the way.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: I saw her sedan.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, it was a BMW.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it was a BMW.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: And oh, man, it asked her a five series and it had like over a hundred thousand miles on it.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: But we made it work.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: Mind you that at this point, I was like two months in to looking every single week for a car.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: And I couldn't find one yet because I was so set on getting a SUV.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: marrying him and getting us to this.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: I know how he did it.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_02]: Wow, what a cool story.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, but then how did it go from being somebody who helps you buy a car to like dating?
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's like a graphic, right?
- 3:02[SPEAKER_02]: This is, you know.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure, for sure.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's keep it like very, like pinching.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's finally right.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: Well, in the car industry, we have this saying, but it's never rolling in book, you don't ever ask your client out for a date because it can really backfire.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: So even though, however, I thought, I thought she was really cute and I really wanted to ask her on a date.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of always have this behind my head, like, hey, don't don't do this because you can really burn some bridges.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: And, uh,
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: So I didn't.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't ask her out, but then she keeps on sticking in my mind and I can tell you this right now This is a one-sided story.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think she felt that way about me at all, but uh, I know that.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah Savage Yeah, she just keep on sticking in my mind and then um and a month went by her I knew her life and Blake was gonna have to come in
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, you know what, whenever her license plate come in, I will try again.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: So long story short, her license plate came in.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: She had a little bit of an oil problem.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: All BMW had oil problem.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: I used to work for BMW as a mechanic for three years.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: all of them have oil problem.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: Tip off for oil, and I didn't ask for out again.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: I let her leave because you know what?
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: She came in with like three of her uncles that just came from Vietnam.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm talking about, you know, I was alone.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: I was loner.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't want to get beat up or anything by her uncle.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: That was like, you know what I'm not going to ask this girl.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: But when she drove home, I was just eating me inside.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, man, if I don't do it,
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, what was the worst I can happen?
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: She's saying no, right?
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: So I was out for lunch and I shot her text messages.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, you wanna go for a movie and stuff and then she ended up saying, yes, give me a chance.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: But Jenny, what did you give him a chance?
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: What did I give him a chance?
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: So, I mean, I thought like, you're one not a free lunch day.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: I'll finish that at the end of the week.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I need to have all this background information because what life you guys are living right now is mind blowing and it's not mind blowing just as American people would see it but as Vietnamese people because I think in Vietnamese culture and American Vietnam, we all have this
- 5:31[SPEAKER_02]: cultural mentality of buying a house, you know, getting situated, you know, and I know this is got to be so many of our fantasies, is to find this girl, find this boy and go and have a family and raise a family on the road and travel America, you guys are so young and you guys are doing this and you know, a lot of us are like looking going, Vietnamese we say Tam Jainika, you know,
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: you know the way you guys are living and it's beautiful.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_02]: So then okay so what that that's why I needed to kind of hear this backstory of like how you guys you know got together and then you guys you're working at the card dealership and Jenny would what are you doing?
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't college.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: I was just in rockers studying engineering.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_02]: At what point do you guys think about like getting married and while you're getting married?
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: Do you guys ever have this talk about like running away and being on the road living?
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I grew up, you know, I think like a lot of Vietnamese American that came to America, our family, we come here with nothing, and our parents have to kind of like structure that foundation for us, but my parents was definitely not financially within the realm of like, you know, starting their own business, they just like to work and try to care if they're kids the best the way they can.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: So I grew up very conservatively in a way where get good grades,
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: get a good job, get a house, settle down.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of the thing that I was kind of stuck into.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: Jenny actually brought it into our relationship very early on that she wanted to live in the middle of nowhere on a farm and stuff like that.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I told her she was freaking crazy, you know, I don't want that.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: I wanted to live in a high rise.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: I wanted to live in the big city, and I want to,
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: put my head down and just work really hard.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but of course, like, I want to support him.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever, you know, he's he was the breadwinners.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: I want to score him whatever he want to do.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I want to to go that direction.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: But I know eventually it would like go by the direction.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: But we're for that to have been, you know, whatever.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: There's been a cautionary tell for all men out there.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_02]: They control women control everything.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_02]: They make you think that you're making decisions.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: We think it's our idea, but at the end of it, I think behind the scene is always their idea, big mistake, huge mistake.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_02]: So how long until you guys get married?
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I've always knew that when I was going to grow up and I always knew I want a kid so and I always knew We I want it.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_01]: I want a kid's young and the whole the whole the whole thesis behind having kids young was to Be able to let them grow up and you still be young and still be able to do stuff with them.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I was my idea and I don't know if it was hers or not But we we had Zoe before getting married.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: And so the, and she was doing college at that time.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: I just took on a management role at the Cardiola circle.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_01]: And we're along this in relationship.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: So when I find out in college that I was pregnant, my second semester of second year, I was actually really thrilled because I didn't, yeah, at that point I didn't really want to continue my study anymore before being pregnant.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: So I was actually pretty thrilled that I was pregnant, like, I didn't want to do engineering anyways.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: And your mom and dad, what do they say,
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: uh, while my mom didn't like it, uh, of course, uh, you know, like my girls, you don't call it, she can have this great career and all of that.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, she didn't like it.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: But eventually, you know, she'll see, um, yeah, she's okay with it.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, my mom and dad was, uh, thrilled through.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: They, they, yeah, they, they couldn't wait to see their, um, to see their grandkids.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean I was 19.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was 20.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: No, you were 20.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: No, you were you were 19 pregnant birth and 20.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think, right?
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: No, 20 birth and 21.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, there you go.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: And how old are you at the time, boo?
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was 23 at the time.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, you are great.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: We were so happy so that I guess a few months in I put college and then I packed my bags all of it and I we drove to Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, and yeah we started the new life together.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, doing what what did you go to Oklahoma for?
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was working.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeah, we, um, I just took a management role in, in a dealership in Oklahoma.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, so we were working there.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: I was working for a Honda dealership and this lowly transition to be a director for a BMW dealership after.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_02]: And at what point do you guys look at each other and go, we need to get on the road and get out of here.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: Um, no, that didn't happen into like further in my career.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and my, my, my, my mentality at the time when we had Zoe, um, I think I can 10 years ago here.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, 10 years ago.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: This was like Zoe is 10 now.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: Zoe's 10 years old now.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: This is 10.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: So we didn't start traveling until she was six.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: So that's about four years.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: And when we had our kids, I think a lot of parents can probably relate to this is that once we realized that we had kids, we realized that we have to take care of this person that we're about to bring to the war.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: So my mindset, and I think both of my said at that time was just being super locked in, being very career driven and just put our head down and just work work work work really hard and just become a workforce.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_01]: So I was working six days a week, probably 10 to 11 hours every single day, hardly ever see Jenny.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, and then eventually, after work, we found out way in Austin.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I continue to climb that corporate ladder in the car industry, bought our dream house, bought a bunch of things to kind of fuel the void.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: And then she always told me, let's go camping, let's go camping, let's take vacations and do all these things and I just told her we don't I don't have time for this like I have I have a whole dealership that I need a manage I have a bunch of people that depend on me to feed their family he was still working when we got married like the day before we got married he was like that work so yeah no honey moon or nothing
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: and this keeps going on and when do you eventually agree to go camping?
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, it it keep going on and the camping didn't really started.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: We kind of like got slowly she kind of like slowly pushed me towards like being okay.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: We're taking break time away from work.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: So the first trip that we've ever done was kind of take a vacation.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: And it was hard for me to kind of like take a week off of work.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: Because I I was like, man, I don't know how much work I need to come back to or anything like that.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: So the first time we ever did anything was just taking a week vacation.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: And we went we went to Cancun.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: In tune.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we went to Cancun and it was the first time ever.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: Two of the boys.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: The first time ever I was out of the country or went anywhere.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like regular vacation, like any other family should have.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I was hooked.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: I was hooked.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: No, not hooked on vacation.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: But no.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: At that point, we still not like all less so.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's when you were deciding one day he came home.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: which is about five years ago.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: He came home and he said, I'm going to quit my job.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: And at that point of his career, he was making like a lot of money.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like the car industry was top of his, you know, place, and we had a really nice house in a really good school district, nice neighborhood, and car of our dreams, basically.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, I want to quit my job, and I say, okay, let's do it.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah I thought she was crazy.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_01]: I thought she was crazy.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: I made it as kind of like a joke.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know, when we worked so hard, we get so frustrated without our environment and where we're in.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think every person kind of have that thought process.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: And it was kind of more of like a joke.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: I was like a joke with serious at the same time.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: And then I couldn't believe that she supported me through that decision.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: And that got into his head.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: And he started about it more and more.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: And at this point of our life, we started to invest.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: Um, sort of investing in us and in money and all of that.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: So I guess that's like, um, the, the first initial of, um, getting out.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, getting out of the system of the American system where you had to work to pay the bills.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we started building a financial layer to kind of help plus feel more comfortable with making that decision.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, shortly after that, I decided to quit my job for at my career.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's five years ago.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_02]: So before you quit your job, you have to know that whatever money you had was able to grow that could support whatever you're going to be doing.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_01]: No, yeah, honestly we had we had some little we have some little thoughts about that, but really we kind of like just all it No, we're like this.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're just kind of all in.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't really think of anything at that.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: We had a house that had the 3500 dollar mortgage on it plus, you know, two car would that's like 5,000 a must that come out and we had some money in the bank at that point.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but after he quit his job, of course money weren't flowing in
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: So you and we're like, oh, Dan, how are we gonna do this without, you know, money keep on feeding this house.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_01]: um we decided well we realized that we didn't need the house anymore we realized that after I quit my job and I was at home spending so much time with the family yeah we went camping for the very first time we had a sienna yeah we bought a sienna we put up pop-up tent on top of it and we drove it we we've always wanted to visit California
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: Uh-huh.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: That was like the ultimate dream.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: I watched Vansung when I was growing up and one of my bucket lists was to visit Little Saigon in California.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: That was one of my bucket lists.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: I had to do that before anything in life.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: And tell you a funny story is that we didn't make it.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: That first trip.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't make it that far.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: We took the biggest.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: We made it to Vegas, and then we realized that we don't have any more fuel in the tank.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: We've been sleeping inside of this pop-up tent for the past two weeks or so, and we don't have any more fuel in the tank to continue to continue our road trip, but so much.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: We love the experience, we've had back and we've had back and we just got addicted to that experience.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: I've just been camping, being with the nature, seeing our kids running around, playing with dirt, trees.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you call them in the animals and just being able to explore the country in a minivan and a pop-up town.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: And then I start looking into homeschooling.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: Zoe was in kindergarten at that point and then I started looking homeschooling and I started to talk about homeschooling to him and I guess convince him that we can homeschool the kid.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: We don't have to like be here for them to go to school.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I thought she was crazy about the homeschooling thing.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, this is a crazy thought I didn't I did not agree to that at all to this point.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think you both are crazy But yeah I think we both think that we're crazy that we go always trying to like we don't ever I think with our relationship We don't ever just
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: shut it off completely.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: We always try to listen to it and hear the other person sigh and see the pros and the cons and we always sit down and we always talk about our pros and cons and we try to have an open mind about our conversation and make sure we hear the other person out.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: So when I thought she was crazy I kind of like brush it off my shoulder but then she was pretty adamant about it and she found out that down the street for us we had a homeschool convention in Austin that
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I went to the homeschool convention and we started learning more about, you know, the homeschool system and I started talking to the people that have been homeschooling for, you know, their first generation, their third generation, their fourth generation and they came out to the workforce, their engineers, their doctors, their, they're, they're all of these things and, and their business owners and I was like, man.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: This is so wild, like you're doing all of this that I thought only someone that go to school can be able to do.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_01]: And that's how I was program.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: How was open mind?
- 19:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then it really opened my mind.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I started talking to so many doctors, engineers, business owners, even entrepreneurs, and they're all homeschoolers.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, yeah, we've been homeschooled for generation now.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_01]: Our kids will be homeschooled for the next generations.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: And then our kids and kids and kids.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: So I completely bought into the system after that.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_02]: My God, this is getting even more wild than I thought.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_02]: It seems to me that both of you were not born in the US because I follow your channel and the way you I speak Vietnamese is like super fluent.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: You guys grew up in Vietnam or I know Jenny probably did, right?
- 19:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I came when I was 10 and I came when I was about five.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_02]: So you guys do you guys remember Vietnam at all?
- 19:57[SPEAKER_01]: Very, well, she probably remembered a good number a lot more than I do.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_01]: I remember Vietnam very vague.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: I grew up in the southern part of Vietnam.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: I was born in the southern part of Vietnam.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: Our family work in the rice field.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't really have much.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: I remember the hard time.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't really remember, I remember the great time too.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, just being just being a farm race kid in the rice field, you get to kind of have a lot of freedom, just kind of do whatever you want.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, little, little tiny memory.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: So, not not too much on my end.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, when I was in Vietnam, I was, I stayed with my grandma and set up 10 kids.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_00]: So like online her kids were racing me basically.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_00]: My mom was in America when I was in Vietnam.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_00]: She get burned to me and then she went to America, you know, do her thing so to get that like a stable job before getting me over.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, 10 years later, I came over.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I had a good memory in Vietnam because I was like the only
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no, near by there, been there.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_02]: Be quiet, okay, be quiet.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty busy.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_00]: It was meant to be.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_02]: You know, when I think about your story and I'm watching it happening, you know, and I'm listening to the Vietnamese that you guys are talking, speaking in, and I'm like,
- 21:19[SPEAKER_02]: It would already be mind blowing if it was an American born kid like me, right?
- 21:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm 50 years old born the US.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, nobody would kind of bat an eye or be surprised about, you know, some American kid doing this with their white girlfriend or like this American way of living.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_02]: But this is like what really, you know, it made me question a lot about
- 21:46[SPEAKER_02]: Vietnamese people taking massive risk like this, you know, especially the stories that I know my family of England, Macquad.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_02]: You know, if you grew up in Vietnam, you know, and you value money in a way that is like, you're going to put your nose down to the end grind to you become completely independent.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_02]: But you guys taking, if your child wants to hang out with you, I'm very open to that.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, she's, she's coming.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_02]: Don't hold back if she wants to come on you know, I can't we can't stop her yeah, so this mentality of having, you know, this security of Hi, are you for everybody who's not watching the video and listening your daughter just rolled into screen, huh?
- 22:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she just woke up so she's a little bit of a mess right now.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so this mentality, you know, of safety is so prevalent in Vietnamese culture when when you first come to the US, you know, and it sounds like that's not something that you guys really care about.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: Um, no, I mean, I care about it a lot back up because I grew up in in in that in that family that that we came we came here with nothing so we got a we got to make a lot to and we got to do everything that we can to make a lot and I and I never understood why I had to make so much for why that I have to do this in a certain order like this.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: I just knew that because we had nothing we're going to try to make a lot to
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: and then she come into my life and give me a completely different perspective.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, I don't want a lot.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, I have never bought Jenny any name brand stuff.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: We have always been very, you know, very frugal when it comes to like, you're shopping for clothing or anything like that.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, I don't need money, and I was like, why not?
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, money money, money, you know, a few, 10 years ago, I would tell you money by me happiness.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I would, and anyone that will tell me otherwise, I would deny it.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: And she told me when you die, you can't bring your money with you.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: And even though how fathom that is to kind of say a sentence like that is the truth.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: And then I started realizing that you could make millions of dollars.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: And if you have no memories and you have no genome to bring to yourself and your loved ones and everyone that's in your life and create happiness and environment of positive energy around you, then none of this money and none of this wealth is going to mean anything.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to say something Jenny.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no, I lost my trade of fun on that one, yeah, no, because money is a whole different subject, right?
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: Now for me, I always think that like anything is possible, like you can do or be anything you want to be.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's just living here in America.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: So like, if I want to be a doctor, I'm sure if I work hard enough, I can be a doctor.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: But like, is that what?
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: you know, what I really want in life.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 25:06[SPEAKER_00]: So we just talking and talking and we're like, what do we really want?
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: What would make us like feel free and feel happy inside?
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: And they come to less travel.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: We both wanted to travel and we started do travel planning and we thought we wanted to travel Asia.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: for a few years.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: For five years.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's five years.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: We decided to sell the house, Jenny kind of cut ties with the business that she was in at the time.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: We started liquidating all of our furniture, clothes, cars, everything that we- We bought stuff.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of stuff, because it was a 3,000 square foot house.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_00]: We had a lot of stuff to fill that, right?
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: So we just-
- 25:55[SPEAKER_00]: sale and give everything away.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_00]: There was one day where I put up a Facebook marketplace and I was like, come to get anything you want, see my closet.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's free.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's all free.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_00]: Come and just grab them and add no feeling torsion, zero feeling torsion.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we had people that come with flat vet trailers to come pick up stuff from us because we were just giving everything away.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: We're just like,
- 26:21[SPEAKER_00]: That's how we had that for, like, it's no storage, no nothing.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: And we hop on a plane and we lived in Vietnam for six months.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_01]: Because we thought we wanted to travel Asia.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_01]: We wanted to discover all of Asia.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: And then after six months of living in Vietnam, we realized how much we really missed America.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: and the the the culture that diversity, the food, everything in America, we really miss it.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_01]: And just happen at our last six months in Vietnam, one of our distance family member did a Facebook Tulsa.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: And then he was like, I need a house sitter in Alaska.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: I need a house sitter for months.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I show him, I'm like, do you want to do it?
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: So last minute, in Vietnam, our last month in Vietnam, I bought a truck sight unseen, didn't go see it or anything like that.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_01]: We bought a Ford Ranger, we did all the wire transferred and everything.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_01]: We flew back to America, picked up the truck, took it off-roading because we thought we're going to do a lot of off-roading going up to Alaska, turn a test-out of our ability, then we went to an RV dealership and bought a 19-foot travel trailer.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: First time ever hauling an RV, first time everything with an RV, we hook it up and we made a one month road trip all the way up to Alaska.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: And we were so close.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: $2,000 in my own, $4,000 in my own trip.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and we babysit this person's house for a whole month.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: And a month and a half.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: And that one month and a half was so awesome.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: We discovered Alaska.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_01]: We went a lot of hiking.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: And this is every obvious stream to make a Churchill Alaska.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: So we did that first.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: We knocked that out the bar.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_02]: When you guys are getting ready to go, the math for the economics of your family, look, I know it could be sensitive, I don't know of you, how much you are willing to share.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I would love to hear how much do you need, how did you make your money grow?
- 28:31[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm sure a lot of people, I mean, especially me, I'm here for that conversation.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_02]: How do we escape this matrix that we're in right now?
- 28:42[SPEAKER_02]: world of working nine to five just gives a lot of people.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_02]: How do you make this work financially?
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so we knew in the beginning when I put my job for the first year and we still have the house.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: So we knew that we got to invest so and we knew that we have to make money work for us and I think a really good book to read and you have a lot of book behind you and I think a really good book to read and really open our mind was Rich Dad Poor Dad.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_01]: We realized that we made a lot of money and we realized that we can lose this just as fast.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_01]: So we pivot and we start learning more about investing and we start learning really how to really have a compound investment account.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_01]: And we just we just believe in the US market.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: We believe that the US as an economy is always going to go up and we
- 29:55[SPEAKER_01]: And as a U.S. citizen and as, and yeah, we just believe in it.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: So we go into all in on to diversifying ourselves into ETFs, index funds, and everything like that.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: And knowing that it's going to be a slow growth, but it's going to be a consistent slow growth.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: And it's going to compound and everything like that.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: So we start looking into ETF.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: We start looking into dividends of ETF that give us a high dividends return.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, that's kind of how we,
- 30:24[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we're not saying that that like cover all our expenses or anything, we'd had a lot of saving.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we did have a lot of savings as well.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_00]: I guess we hit the chat part of the market of housing at that time.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_02]: You sold it the right time.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_00]: We sold it.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: We bought it at the right time, sold it at the right time.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_00]: So we have a large chunk of money that we feel confident that we can last a few years.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_00]: Even with no making money.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: But in our mind, we always want to make our own income, which we lean towards social media, perhaps YouTube or whatever that is self-made, like magic into that money.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like, wow, people are making magic in their body.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_00]: Can we have some of that?
- 31:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like, I'm sure if we work hard, we can get some.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_01]: yeah i always i've always growing up i've always wanted to be a youtuber it was kind of been like one of my biggest one of my biggest um one of my biggest dreams because i've watched so many Asian youtuber growing up and they love money no no not not not not not for the money but just just just how just how just how fundamentally it is i've always thought if i was a way that i can record all of our family moments so
- 31:42[SPEAKER_01]: and put it into a server and rewatch it again.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: How can I do that without being super scare of the camera and not knowing and fumbling our words?
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: So, so it was always been something that has always been kind of in my mind to kind of do something like that and just we just were just too scared of doing it.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: You're fun in the camera, too scared of talking in front of the camera.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, one day I just, I told her, let's go ahead and do this and we actually, this, this channel that you found us in was not our first channel.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_01]: We had a very beginning channel that was just in English because I was not confidence in Vietnamese at all.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: And Jenny didn't want to be on camera talking in Vietnamese.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: So, we did a whole English channel for a year and it's kind of on and off and it taught us a lot of life lesson with a whole talking in front of the camera.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then one day her grandma was like, if you
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: I really love to follow you guys journey.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_01]: I just can't watch any of your English stuff.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: I don't understand it.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: And the family was like, why don't you just do this and Vinnie saw us?
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm smart, we already did Vietnam.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: We already did Alaska.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_00]: And we already into our second travel trailer.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_00]: Second RV.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_02]: You know, yeah, I was so confused recently when all I heard was Vietnamese because I remember when I found you guys a while back ago, it was all in English and I was like, yeah, why is this in Vietnamese now and then why are the numbers so low, I think it was like the it was a lower subscriber count and so I was like, so I thought to myself there must be two and
- 33:19[SPEAKER_02]: This is the question I had when I kind of figured it out.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_02]: What is the difference in the way you communicate to the world?
- 33:29[SPEAKER_02]: When you do it in Vietnamese and then when you do it in English.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_02]: Was there a certain persona difference in the way you guys communicate to the world, the way you guys reacted would be each other, how are the two languages different from because there's very few content creators that can do both languages and then have to make a decision.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: So the first time I think we just didn't know what type of content we wanted to do.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: We just didn't know who we are and why we're doing what we're doing.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_01]: And then when the Vietnamese channel came to life and our family gave us a lot more feedback and saying, hey, when you do an Vietnamese, if you can just share about your life and just do it as as authentically and raw as you possibly can, I think a lot of people can resonate with that because I like your life, but I just can't watch it in English.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: And we just
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: We were so terrible at Vietnamese at first, so I was terrible.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_00]: I was just, we were barely ever talking to each other in Vietnamese.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_01]: And now, how's all we talking English?
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_01]: Off-camera, we talking English.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_01]: Anyone we meet in real life, we prefer to talk in English.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: So, only on our YouTube channel, now we're talking to each other.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, now it's really natural.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_01]: We do a 50-50 split now, because we, I think, Vietnamese, why?
- 34:57[SPEAKER_01]: So, we have...
- 34:58[SPEAKER_01]: we have grown quite a bit on just that learning and how to actually communicate.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_02]: But the money on the Vietnamese side, Vietnamese language is not as much as the English side, or how does it work?
- 35:10[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's not at all.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, yeah, because
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, almost like half.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: We have friends that we encourage them to start doing YouTube and start getting them into social media, showing them the ropes and helping them kind of understand how the whole social media will work.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_01]: And now to see that they're getting the same amount of views we get and we share data with each other all the time as a small little
- 35:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's so much as double or sometimes even triple hours as a Vietnamese channel and we're okay with that because We have a really like a good amount of like following that follow us and whatever we do and really appreciate that Yeah, we love our we love our community.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_00]: We wouldn't use it for the war right now wouldn't stop if like Plus people yeah
- 36:02[SPEAKER_02]: And let me explain this to our listeners.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_02]: The CPMs is basically the dollar per thousand views that we get.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_02]: And that rate is based on the market.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's like a cost of a living allowance, like cola, the way cola works is depending on where you live.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_02]: That's the amount of money that sort of like,
- 36:27[SPEAKER_02]: dictates the cost of living, and because the cost of living in Vietnam is so low compared to the US, the cost of advertising dollars is actually not even half, but it's like maybe a quarter to a tenth of what US prices are because the cost of living is so high in America that the advertisers
- 36:52[SPEAKER_02]: who are spending money advertising on YouTube or wherever your platform is paying a lot higher.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_02]: But then the difference is the Vietnamese listening audience for people that look like us and speak Vietnamese is much higher because you got a lot of people in Vietnam that listen.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_02]: But then you have some people in America that listen in Vietnamese, but if you have
- 37:16[SPEAKER_02]: English speaking like us, but we're speaking about Vietnamese topics, so we look Vietnamese, then the chances of like the mainstream tuning into our channels is a lot lower than if we were white speaking English.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a lot of this like, give and take.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_02]: And I wonder why you guys didn't decide to just keep both languages and keep both channels just rolling.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we we made a decision based on families feedback family, but it also it's a lot.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_00]: We had three kids.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_00]: And we had a lot going on to be keeping two channels.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, one channel is like a heart and not to be a bandage.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then get to all the traveling that we do, we still want a life, you know, we don't want to just focus on that SLY.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_00]: We want to live our live in recorded and not have to over at it.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_01]: So over script or over plan.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_01]: So when we
- 38:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like we, we don't ever do any collaboration you and probably one other collaboration that we recently just did is our first two collaboration now that we have worked with another creator, you know, and when, when we, when we, when we work with now two creators, there's really no plan to go into it like, hey, this is the topic, this what we're going to talk with just kind of like just free flow it and maybe become something it becomes something if it doesn't it doesn't know harm no file and we just, we just love the company and we just love the time together.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm so appreciative that you guys agreed to do this because I can imagine, you know, it's you guys have a lot to do.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_02]: You guys are, you know, kids to raise and you know, I'm sure trying to figure out the next step all the time, right?
- 39:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I could, you know, like with a lot of our guests, we could spend hours and hours, so I have to be very like mindful because I have a lot of different modules of your lives that I wanna talk about, like, how do you spend the day and all of these things?
- 39:21[SPEAKER_02]: But I wanna talk about something that I think I caught on your channel recently.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_02]: Did you guys go to Marien days?
- 39:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, so.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_02]: Are you guys Catholic?
- 39:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, so I've been Ameriindays many times in my young life and I don't think Vietnamese America Like I can ask a hundred people on the streets and maybe three people know of it.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe
- 39:49[SPEAKER_02]: And it's such a huge part of Vietnamese American history.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_02]: That thing's been around for 50 years.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_02]: I don't have 78, almost 60 years.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, probably something years now.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_02]: And I've been to it.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just, some years has been 100,000 people.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know this year would be 80,000.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how many people this year.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, probably about 80 to 100,000 people.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this is the number is pretty consistent.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: This year is more hot than other years, but it's hot every year.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_00]: No, every year.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's from that year.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's a for last year.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a for last year.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's 80's last year and it was so nice.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_01]: So I was walking around with a long sleeve last year.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_02]: God.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, let me because the RV life and Marianne days is one and the same almost.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's that is the culture and it is Oh my god, the one of the most magical experiences any human being can experience but even more magical is if you're Vietnamese.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if you've been if you've been in Mesoamerican Catholic or not, I think Marianne Day is an event that is an experience, what can we be in Mesoamerican to be a part awful and you know, we we're not going to touch too much on religion because that could be a very sensitive subject to a lot of maybe viewers or whatever, but you don't you don't have to be Catholic to be there.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_01]: everyone is welcome and it's just a group of Vietnamese community getting together and spinning a weekend or three, four days together and camping.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: Just having a freaking glass.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I say this and I've logged.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_01]: No matter how hot it is, no matter how miserable it is, everyone there walk with a freaking million dollar smile because they're so happy being there.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_02]: It's the most, I went two years ago and I, and I, you know, I fought the Catholic Church my entire life because my parents were, die hard Catholics to want us to become priests and
- 41:44[SPEAKER_02]: We were bailed at 1415, and my god, when we think about Marianne days, it's still so special to me.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_02]: And I took my kids two years ago, and I remember walking in the evening and the smell of the hot summer heat of cartilage Missouri, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just, it just,
- 42:07[SPEAKER_02]: And then you hear Vietnamese spoken every corner and everybody's new and it's just such a magical experience I want everybody to know about Marian days.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_02]: In fact, football is coming on in the podcast tonight To talk about because did you guys run into football about their wedding chance?
- 42:25[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know who was out there
- 42:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he planned it weeks before Mary and Daisy, he and I were supposed to go together, but I, you know, I got busy at work and yeah, so he, he covered it and yeah, we're going to talk about tonight because I although I am not a practice in Catholic.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_02]: just to see the community of people there, and for me when I was younger it was a little bit more dangerous and what I mean by that is much more gangsters and gang members would show up to look for women and girls.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_02]: It was a place to equal guy, it was really that.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I can't tell you how many people my generation met their husband and wives at Mary and days in the Midwest.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_02]: Because at the time it was like when we were all moving out of California to go do nails, it was like that great migration out of California to go make a lot of money.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_02]: So where is the place that you would go to meet all these Vietnamese people if you weren't living in Los Saigon?
- 43:27[SPEAKER_02]: You would go to Mary and days right in the middle of the country.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_00]: Did not know that.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: Did not know that.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's pretty awesome to know.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_01]: She took me there five years ago.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I grew up in barely a year in Houston, all my life.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_01]: I've been around a big Vietnamese community, but I've just never been around a focused Vietnamese community that large, in one place.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_01]: It was a real surreal moment for me, and I told her, ever since that day, I want to come back every year.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_00]: I've been on since I was 10, so I've been like five, six time now.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, it's um, I really wish more Vietnamese people knew about it because it's, I mean, I think about it's like the Coachella of of the Vietnamese.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, 100%.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's the Coachella of the Vietnamese because you know, I don't know if they still do it, but like Asia, Paris, my night, they would, they would switch, they would alternate years.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_02]: So when you have Paris when I, the label brings their singers and then Asia would bring their singers the next and then Vansan and everybody would just come cover it.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it was such a vibe.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Asia in France, but I do they insist anymore.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 45:10[SPEAKER_02]: of they had huge performers come out and um they know I think it had tweying air like 10 years ago something like that probably was when it's sad yeah it took us a little yeah it's it's one of those things were like I I really hope that that place grows and what a special thing that exists in the Vietnamese community in in a way that is so special very rare
- 45:36[SPEAKER_00]: We met a lot of fan there because I guess since we're camping, that's where most of our con most concentrated viewers are like there.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so did they recognize you and they would come up to you guys or I did that work.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was awesome.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they they just call out name and we just kind of stop and have a conversation with
- 45:55[SPEAKER_00]: but like fight we go on a bike just for us so it's faster we go on a little electric bike and I hear people like talking in the back and oh that's like you know the song you don't it's so weird to be on this day that we're like talking you know not to you but like not behind you but you know yeah in the rectitude yeah
- 46:17[SPEAKER_02]: before I got distracted with Mary and days at night with her mouth.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_02]: I've glossed over the money part and I just want to return to it really quick.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_02]: How much money do I need to do this?
- 46:30[SPEAKER_02]: What are we looking at?
- 46:31[SPEAKER_02]: How much money do I have to have in the bank that grows?
- 46:35[SPEAKER_02]: Can you break it down?
- 46:37[SPEAKER_02]: How this works?
- 46:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so we had a very strict rule when we first started and that's because we weren't making any money on the road.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: We had we had a hundred thousand dollars set to a sigh and then another about a hundred hundred and fifty tours investment.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_01]: So some total of 250 right and we say okay this $100,000 is going to last us how long and how fruit we can we do with it and we try to make sure that we own all of our travels and everything like that outright so we don't have a loan or debt.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_01]: No debt.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_01]: No no debt.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_01]: Now of course
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's a little bit of an opposite now because we're finally making America now and like America runs on debt so like so it's a little bit backwards now so but you can't take what we have now because now we actually generate income while we're on the roll and collaborating with you know sponsors and brands and working with business business all around the war now throughout our YouTube channel so it's completely different now but in before we say 35 to 40 thousand dollars so
- 47:42[SPEAKER_00]: a year.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_01]: A year was our budget.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_01]: And that was a very open and flexible budget.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_00]: But talking about going to Asia, right, you don't need that much to really like live like a King Meisha in Vietnam, especially.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think he was mentioning more like traveling across the West.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, in our view.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so we were very strict on like $35-40,000 and that cover feels the cover travel food and we and we break it down to like campground and we couldn't do this really without the without the support of a of a system called thousand trails so without that system it would have been too expensive to do this lifestyle.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_02]: What's a thousand trails?
- 48:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if you think about it, it's more like a time share.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's more like a time share.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_01]: You buy into this so-called time share, it's called thousand trails.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_01]: And we pay, if we knew about it, ahead of time, maybe we would have wouldn't use, but we didn't, we bought new.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_01]: So we pay $8,000 for a year, for a, for a lifetime membership, to be part of it.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_01]: And then we maintain a member fee about $700 a year.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: But to break it down and we broke down on the math,
- 48:56[SPEAKER_01]: go to camp around stay there every single day for months on end for 12 months it would cost us more to have that initial investment so we have we have profit from that from from that from that membership to probably two or three times over.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_00]: So what's that?
- 49:10[SPEAKER_02]: So wait it's 8000 to buy in right and it's 700 a month right?
- 49:15[SPEAKER_02]: 900 a year oh wait so it's and you can say there as long as you want
- 49:21[SPEAKER_00]: three weeks.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, three weeks yet to hop to another 1,000 trail, but you can go from 1,000 trail to another 1,000 trail and just be back and forth.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_01]: So like for example, when we stay in Texas for two months, we'll just hop between the two and about an hour away from each other.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll just bounce back and forth and we stay there as long as we'll.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's cheaper than actually like a mobile home park.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_02]: Like the home park, it would be much, much more expensive on the monthly payment.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: 100% is $50 to $100 a night at an RV park, though.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_00]: And a resort.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_01]: At a resort and a cheap one.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_00]: They have pooled, they have skated and is safe.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_00]: And it have also community.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's where we really like about it that we found a lot of our good friend.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_00]: That's probably lifetime friend now in these parks.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, that we are also full-time RVers.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's how the economics of this works out now.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_02]: I get it because now you're basically spending what 20 bucks a day.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 50:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and it's actually cheaper to have it than to pay a mortgage, to pay somebody to mow the lawn, upkeep the big house, I mean that lifestyle of really living in a settled
- 51:15[SPEAKER_02]: us because we have to stay in maintain one house, one property.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_02]: And it is so much more expensive than paying two dollars a day.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_02]: But then you have to really have it set up that you have an RV, you have to have income coming in.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just let me just for the RV week up to have like one of the biggest RV just so we can become through all because we know this is what we want.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_00]: We don't need more space in this and this will be probably for the next five more years.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_00]: 5 to 10 more years so that we can be in and it's hot.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_02]: And is it self-sustaining yet like the money is like you're making, you know, you can make more money than what you're expanding?
- 51:57[SPEAKER_01]: Um, you know, um, no, we're not there yet.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_01]: No, we're still trying to figure that part out.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_01]: But luckily through through many years, I mean, we've been self-sustaining ourselves now for the past five years having to haven't been able to work for a boss or report to anybody for the past five years of doing this.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_01]: Every single day we're figuring it out.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_01]: Every single day we're hustling, like everybody else and we're just figuring all this out.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_01]: We don't have the answer to everything, but I'm sure through child and error, we'll find a way.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_00]: So my mentality is like, we're young.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_00]: What's the worst thing that can happen?
- 52:39[SPEAKER_00]: So back to work.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_00]: go back to work.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's right.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean to to today.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_01]: I still have people in the car industry wanting me to come back and work for them.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_01]: So so I know I know that is not a bit of the word.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, it's terrible.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it doesn't.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think tomorrow I can get a job that will make, you know, anywhere between 10 to 15,000 dollars a month.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_01]: So it's, it's, it's, it's not, it's not scary to me.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_00]: And it's America.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_01]: And here's the craziest part of it all.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_01]: You
- 53:10[SPEAKER_01]: No, we've been we've been on the roll now for four years.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_01]: Four years.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody can ever take this four years away from you.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's such we have done so.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_01]: it's like you can't even put a price tag on this four years yeah there's zero price tag I mean I wouldn't change this for the war I mean we've been we haven't been working or reporting to anyone for five years the first year I took my daughter to school and pick her up every single day attend every single parent conference attend every single activity at her school event so um
- 53:43[SPEAKER_01]: was there for her graduation.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, my parents was never, was never there for my any my graduation going to school.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_01]: So I felt very, very blessed to be able to be there for my daughter.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_01]: And then for the past four years, we travel, we saw so much and learned so much and have met so much amazing people.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's, I don't know.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how to put it into word.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's been, it's been, it's been, it's been really amazing.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_01]: I feel really blessed.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I I think we've been sharing a lot of like really good stuff with you guys, but what are some of the downsides of the painful the pain points of of doing and living this way?
- 54:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's hard for us because we always try to look at the positive side because I thought we feel like there's more positive than they are negative.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, the first thing for everyone is always so scary.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I think, you know, I think that would be kind of like I guess our downside.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a very handy person.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_01]: So if something break or something messed up on the role, I'll always try to
- 54:39[SPEAKER_01]: try to, try to become and try to fix it, but beginning stages of, you know, hauling this big fifth wall around with a big chalk.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_01]: I've never drove a big chalk like this before.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_01]: I've never pulled a big trailer like this before.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_01]: So everything is always super scary, making the wrong turn and going down the wrong roll and potentially can,
- 54:58[SPEAKER_01]: rip the roof off of your RV or damaging the RV, stuff like that, stuff like that that you have to always consistently overcome and try to figure out.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think the adapting, the adaptability and the press appearance of trying to always be a problem solver is always going to be there.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_01]: But that's not a
- 55:26[SPEAKER_00]: I say kid making friends, but we kind of solved that problem.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_01]: We did solve that problem early on.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to lie on.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_01]: How did you solve it?
- 55:34[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you're in.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_00]: We were doing 1,000 trail, and we met a lot of food and family.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_00]: And like I say, we sometimes travel on the same path.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_00]: So we see each other over and over again.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we care, then we care, then with families for several months.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and we just, we just called to RV parts with each other.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: Our kids.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be meeting up soon.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_00]: Again, a whole group of us in September.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: Four of us are going to gather together.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I think we're going to have probably about 15 to 20 kids all in one place together, just playing and hanging out.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_02]: What a beautiful image.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_02]: You know.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_02]: God, it's a kind of rename your title to dream life, quick, some dream life.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_02]: It's a really nice thing.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_02]: Do you guys experience, kind of hate this question, but I had just, I'm curious, where the book is?
- 56:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_02]: Do you guys experience racism on the road?
- 56:33[SPEAKER_01]: Um, you know, because because of the way I look, um, I think majority of people that look at me for the first, uh, for the first image, I think I'm Hispanic.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_00]: Um, well, actually, we haven't.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_01]: We haven't.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we, we.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_00]: We come off and talk to us all the time.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and we that looking friendly or something like.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know because of the system that we are a part of, I feel like everyone here, they're super friendly and they are part of this system that we're in because they want a safe environment.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_01]: They want a place for that to be able to.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, all retired people, so it's pretty much nice old people that are retire or families that just want to safe environment for their kids to be able to walk out the RV and run to the park without their parents supervision.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, so yeah, so that makes sense.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_00]: So would you feel safe for an RV park than, uh, in an evening?
- 57:30[SPEAKER_00]: Personally, yeah, if you want to say hi to each other when they walk by, uh, the first year really wear me out, like everybody's saying hi to your body.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_00]: We don't really do that in neighborhood, really.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_02]: I get it now.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's a closed system actually.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_02]: The thousandth rows is a closed system and eventually you kind of get to know the people that, you know, my final question is, it sounds like as long as long as you do this for.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_02]: When I think about, like, how?
- 58:02[SPEAKER_02]: many states there are in America and how many cities and things to see.
- 58:08[SPEAKER_02]: Eventually you do all of it, right?
- 58:10[SPEAKER_02]: You probably cycle through the whole country.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_02]: Is that something that you guys think about or is it something that you can do America for a long time or do you feel like there's an infinite loop here that you can always explore America or this will get old one day?
- 58:28[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like America, I don't think for the lifetime of your existence, you can discover all of America.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_01]: Really?
- 58:34[SPEAKER_01]: I just really don't feel like that.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like every new place that we have been to have always blown my mind and have always been better than that.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's so much fun, so that's on my list.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_01]: There's there's there's there's an endless amount of possibilities endless amount of challenges and endless amount of stuff that you're willing to put yourself through I mean just the I mean the the panhandle between the top of Alaska all the way into the southern part of South America is a trip that I would love to do one day and So you guys are there about South America doing this is out America
- 59:04[SPEAKER_00]: Monday.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we would love to.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_00]: We have a lifetime.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_01]: We have a lifetime of exploring and adventure to do with our family.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_00]: And then also, you know, can we do?
- 59:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, covering all of the province of Canada, going to Baja, we have never went there.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I just, I don't know, there's just so much and depends on your hobbies that you like lobster, you like fish, you like whatever.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_01]: And there's this endless possibility that the role can just take you to.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_02]: And with 1000 trails as a Canada and sub the America or Mexican Canada.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_01]: There's one in Canada and then the rest of you can probably have the pay for like state park and stuff like that.
- 59:44[SPEAKER_01]: But it's very affordable.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_01]: We made that trip before and I think we can make it.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_01]: We can definitely make it work on a budget.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's just kind of pre-planning as it's in foreign.
- 59:53[SPEAKER_01]: So, but I mean just a kind of

- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, okay, it wouldn't come out and like pick at the frog and just put out and leave you a speak out in her hand and just like play with it for a little.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_00]: We had spider pets for a while.
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.

- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's a lot to do in America and we're not planning to stop in America.

- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_00]: in other countries.

- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_01]: We definitely do want we love California so much.
- 1:02:08[SPEAKER_01]: So we definitely do want to make a trip back to California.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_01]: We haven't even seen half of California yet.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like we did a lot when we were there.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, there's so much more.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we definitely will make it back.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't know when yet.
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_02]: Whenever you guys make it back, I'll call a few social media people, like Vietnamese people.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_02]: And I think we should all take turns covering you guys.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_02]: I think your story is fantastic.
- 1:02:33[SPEAKER_02]: I think more Vietnamese people around the world should know about you.
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's more Vietnamese people in Los Saigon.
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_02]: She definitely, because, you know, there's a lot of people that have a lot of money in those segans that I think should get on the road to leave those segans, you know, they've been there for 30, 50 years.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's a huge RV community in California, actually, the two gentlemen that run the whole Facebook group, they're really nice, it's Asian RV group, and there's...
- 1:03:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're they're both of them are Vietnamese, but they're like American Vietnamese, so they prefer to speak English, and they, um, they hosted for Asian people, not just Vietnamese, but majority of the people that are in Vietnamese are, are, are Vietnamese, but they're not full-time, well, RV guys are they?
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_01]: No, they're not full-time, but it is giving an Vietnamese community in California, an opportunity to go and bring their campers out and camp at the beach or go in a resort, and enjoy companies of Vietnamese people, right?
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:03:36[SPEAKER_02]: I know two of them, I think, Dr. Lou.
- 1:03:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, Dr. Lou, he's been on our podcast.
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_00]: He's been on our podcast.
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_00]: He's very interesting.
- 1:03:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we had Dr. Lou on the podcast.
- 1:03:48[SPEAKER_02]: And then he has another friend, Tiger Dawn, is another therapist that's in the camp life.
- 1:03:57[SPEAKER_01]: right amazing they both love it they're they're actually um um and twin right that's his name um chan chan chan um chan is uh loose um the end of the admin i mean he's the one to kind of like motivate us to do chapan uh camping so after hearing him doing it we were just like a static who were like oh i can't wait to do it now so yep
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you both so much for agreeing to do this.
- 1:04:22[SPEAKER_02]: I know that sometimes you don't know who these people are, who's asking for interviews and to be accepted for me to come on the podcast for you guys to open up like this is really a privilege for me to sit and talk to you guys.
- 1:04:41[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, thank you so much for such current words.
- 1:04:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's so easy to talk to you.
- 1:04:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's very easy to talk to you as well.
- 1:04:46[SPEAKER_01]: So if anyone that are getting invited by you, I think they should feel honor and have a great conversation.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I think, you know, you bring such a positive and a good spirit to the whole conversation.
- 1:04:56[SPEAKER_01]: I absolutely love it.
- 1:04:57[SPEAKER_01]: We have such a class.
- 1:04:59[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 1:04:59[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you both so much.
- 1:05:00[SPEAKER_02]: And please the next time you guys are in California plan Give me a few hours because I would definitely would try to call a bunch of social media people to To sit and and do what I did with you guys to really talk and get the message out I think it's a wonderful life that you guys are it's not just wonderful
- 1:05:23[SPEAKER_02]: In one word, it's really inspiring to see the way that you, because it really completely removes the cultural heaviness that we experience living in these tight communities of Vietnamese people sometimes, and you know, being able to like really spread out and see the world and bring this information back is such a beautiful life that you guys live.
- 1:05:47[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much once again.
- 1:05:48[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, thank you.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:05:51[SPEAKER_01]: I want to take a moment to just appreciate you and your podcast because I watched one of I watched it and there was a comment that you made and it really resonated with me.
- 1:06:00[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we as a Vietnamese American first generation, second generation and third generation, however it is and however it's set up.
- 1:06:10[SPEAKER_01]: And because I have kids that resonated with me, we bring out kids to this war and our show, show responsibility and the reason why we do all of this is to be able to teach them and to be able to nurture them and expand their mind.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I think you touch on that and it really really resonated with what we're trying to do because that's all the ultimate dream.
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's not to
- 1:06:30[SPEAKER_01]: go away from the traditional system but to to be able to teach our kid and brighten out their mind and to open them up to the war and to let them see more and no more and be more open-minded and unlike the older generation that kind of exactly stuck into one way of doing thing and not open to it like you say I met a lot of people they're in
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_01]: Catholic religion and we're not going to touch on subject too much about that, but because of how our parents were raised and some kind of were raised They push it on their kids and make them drive away from the the faith themselves for and eventually yeah when the kids grow up They eventually either they find themselves back to it or not, but that's I think you know if we
- 1:07:11[SPEAKER_01]: If we just nurture that brain and we just take care of them in a way where we allow them to learn and allow them to be who they are.
- 1:07:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's a beautiful thing and I think you say it better than anyone and I hope someone can watch that clip of yours because that was a very touching clip for me to watch for sure.
- 1:07:30[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much.
- 1:07:32[SPEAKER_02]: You know, as you're telling me this, I wanted to make a request.
- 1:07:36[SPEAKER_02]: I really want to experience thanks giving a Christmas season with you both on the road.
- 1:07:43[SPEAKER_02]: Can we do this again?
- 1:07:45[SPEAKER_02]: Towards the holidays because I just want to experience
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_02]: Wherever you guys are, I want to live through you, like, curiously through you on the road.
- 1:07:56[SPEAKER_02]: And if there's other Vietnamese people there, or whatever, drop in, they can come into the screen and say, hello, but I would love to kind of revisit you guys, even like,
- 1:08:07[SPEAKER_02]: twice a year you guys are wherever you guys are at I think this sort of like this backdrop that you guys are in and the conversation it's so magical and I want to hear it's weird I just want to stay in touch with you guys as like you know it feels like family right and I think in the holidays I'm thinking about wherever you guys are going oh my god I wonder what how they're doing and I just want to check in in the holidays if you guys are cool.
- 1:08:32[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 1:08:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think that every encounter come with a reason and a purpose so and I think someone someone make this comment before everything is up to faith And I wasn't I was not a big believer in that, but I really do think everything done to win now for a reason and the reason and the reason why we're here together and I'm
- 1:08:51[SPEAKER_01]: I cherish every single interaction that we have with all of our followers, all of our subscriber and real life, any collaborator that we have worked with up to this point.
- 1:09:00[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, everyone have been such a awesome blessing in our life and have just taught us many different things.
- 1:09:06[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, the future for us, I hope that it will be continue to be exciting.
- 1:09:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think it will be exciting.
- 1:09:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think it will be.
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_00]: Don't think it ever at the moment.
- 1:09:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:09:16[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully we can bring everyone along, and hopefully one day we have a place to host people.
- 1:09:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's our ultimate dream.
- 1:09:28[SPEAKER_01]: Because I saw the last clip, it was like, oh my god, you know.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_01]: So if one day we can have something like that, we have to host people and come and just hang out.
- 1:09:38[SPEAKER_01]: Just give them a little bit of a different perspective in life.
- 1:09:43[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, the thing about the two of you is like, I think the accumulation of being on the road for so many years, but the time you guys have like a house or a big property.
- 1:09:55[SPEAKER_02]: And then you guys host people, the campfire stories that come from the two of you is so abundant because of the life that you live.
- 1:10:02[SPEAKER_02]: You know that one time we were, you know, it's going to be full of those, those evenings.
- 1:10:08[SPEAKER_02]: I started out in the first two years doing a lot of Vietnamese language podcasts and English, but I think it through the algorithm off.
- 1:10:17[SPEAKER_02]: That's why I asked you guys about the choice of doing videos in English.
- 1:10:21[SPEAKER_02]: Eventually, I'm going to have to start a Vietnamese only language podcast because it's still the same amount of like whatever.
- 1:10:29[SPEAKER_02]: I'm still going to sit and talk to people every every month I try to do 15 Podcasts and it's going to have to yeah fall in line with that When I do set up that Vietnamese language side.
- 1:10:41[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to hit you guys up and then we're going to do this entirely in Vietnamese
- 1:10:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, that's okay with you guys.
- 1:10:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because now we're great because I know you guys personality might be different in in It always is people will speak Vietnamese and they think differently.
- 1:10:56[SPEAKER_02]: They're actively we we kind of get to different angles when we speak Vietnamese It's a conversation.
- 1:11:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's like the wording.
- 1:11:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the word.
- 1:11:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure It's like and there's like a hard to translate between the Vietnamese.
- 1:11:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah
- 1:11:10[SPEAKER_02]: Totally and I don't think any language is better than any language, but I just think very different answers coming up And I want my mom to hear this too, you know, what my mom and you know her sisters and brothers to To cook something you don't Just I just Absolutely I'm going to double show my mom this for sure
- 1:11:36[SPEAKER_02]: Well, thank you guys once again.
- 1:11:37[SPEAKER_02]: Appreciate you both.
- 1:11:38[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 1:11:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, appreciate you.
